i got one of these quit after 3 weeks, took the top off & seen why , the saftey tip over switch plastic pivot had melted off & the switch would not work with this off ,
went & got another heater because this heater worked very good in my back roon from other heater i have used
so i took the top off the new heater & got some insulation & cut it to fit on the steel plate under the plastic top,
cut it around every thing & over the slots that come up thur the metal plate,
made it about 1/2" thick to clear everything put the top back on & it has been working great , put it on hi for 3 days stright and took top off & checked everything is looking good also i noticed that the plastiv top doesn't get warm anymore since i put the insulation in there
will keep in touch on how this little mod is working

I bought this item from Amazon in October 2010. We live in Texas and did not need it for supplemental heating until late November 2010, which was after the Amazon return period. No problem with Amazon as they have always been a quality service, but it never occurred to me to check the heater before the return period was up. I went to the web address on the product sheet enclosed with the heater and was forwarded to a commercial selling store, NOT the Comfort Zone web site, so it appears it cannot be returned. Like the other review, the heater will come on when it is first turned on, in 2-3 minutes it will cut off, the temperature can be in the 50's but it will still cut off and not back on. It is obviously malfunctioning and I will take a 100% loss. I will never buy ANYTHING from Comfort Zone again.

When new this heater was great! However after 12 months or so it started to RUST! This product SHOULD be made with stainless steel or at least polished aluminum. Don't buy!
Honest reviews on Comfort Zone CZQTV8 Fan Forced Quartz Heater with Beveled Top
I purchased this heater from Family Dollar about a month ago to use in my work shop. The heater rarely sees anything other than hi with the thermostat all the way turned up. This week I went down to the shop and the heater wasn't on. The thermostat control was melted out of the top. There was also something heavy rolling around the inside. I opened the heater up and found that the tip over protection which is a round weight(what I was hearing rolling around) is attached to a plastic cam on the side of the thermostat. The plastic cam had melted off and the contact points on the thermostat were completely eroded and not making contact(most likely from arcing as the cam melted). I contacted Comfort Zone who said they would warranty it if I had the receipt. Of course shame on me I no longer have the receipt. Therefore I have bypassed the thermostat all together and now the heater is operational again although I only have "off, Hi, and low" settings. No thermostat control and no tip over protection. I would never use this heater in my house with this arrangement but in my shop sitting on a concrete floor I will continue to use this heater "as is" since it does heat quite well for my shop and I do not want to purchase another heater. Poor design in regards to the safety and thermostat mechanism. If I were to purchase another one I would insulate the area to protect it even though it's ridiculous to have to do that on a relatively new heater. After reading the other reviews this is what I suspect is happening on all of them. I would recommend this fix if yours has quit and if you are using the heater in a secure area, just be sure to use heavy enough gauge wire for the jumper. Also keep your receipt! Guess you get what you pay for....

I bought this heater about a month ago and it worked fine until last night. Like the other reviewers have stated, it just stops working. I can wait a few minutes and it will turn back on. However, when it kicks off it has a strange odor (hot plastic?). I will not buy Comfort Zone EVER again.
