My old Totaline thermostat broke after 10 years, but when I looked for a replacement, I didn't realize how many of the store-brand models out there didn't have the great features of this unit. These are hard to find, usually only through HVAC installers. This version was a remodeled style of my old one, but the heart and brains are the same. The upgrades included the colored up/down buttons and the brighter backlight on the LCD screen. That's my only beef with this unit. The backlight is so bright it actually lights up a small part of the room. But that is a minor issue. This unit has 4 time zones each day for which you can set different high and low temps. But the best feature of this unit is that you don't have to choose only "Cool" or "Heat" modes. You can select the "auto" or "program" options with both a high and low set point, so that if at anytime the temp rises above your top comfort number, the AC will come on, and if ever the room temp drops below your selected comfort number, the heat turns on. THere is never a need to reset anything as the seasons change. But if you want to instantly turn on the ac or heat, it's easy to do with the large exposed up/down buttons by which you can select any temporary temperature you like and you can choose to have the themostat hold that temperature range indefinitely, or automatically return back to your programmed settings in a few hours. Handy. Energy saving.

It does everything it claims to do. It's solidly made, easy to install, clear to read, intelligently laid out, and logical and simple to program. Infinitely superior to the H-ywell one it replaced. I especially like the clean, easy-to-understand lcd panel, the little led that tells me when my heating or cooling is actually engaged, and the option to hook up an external thermometer so I know how many layers to put on in the morning. The previous reviewer should note that if his readout is too bright for him, it can be set to shut off 8 seconds after you finish punching buttons.
My heat/cooling setup was a bit unconventional and so I contacted the company (it's now called Venstar) via email for instructions. The response was quick, courteous, and to the point, with diagrams and explanations. Since I'm fairly stupid, we exchanged several rounds of emails and I have rarely seen such excellent customer service.
