This Sharp BTU 6000 performs great cools my room down within 5 minutes (120 sf).
The auto cool and energy saver function works perfectly. Even at Hi-Cool and Hi-Fan the AC is not loud (had an Artic King 5000 BTU before and it was more noisy). At low fan speed the AC is very quiet.
Also a nice feature: You can adjust the airflow to 4 directions (up/down, left, right). The remote works perfectly and you can control every setting with it.
Installation was easy and can be done by one person (my personal opinion). The package included a big manual and a quick installation guide with pictures (step-by-step).
Build quality is good the the AC is made of solid metal the front is plastic, but it isn't flimsy or cheap looking.
Overall great AC with great Price-Value.
UDPATE:
After several days of operation the AC started to produce a scratching/grinding noise. The noise is definitely coming from the fan scratching on something. In LOW and MEDIUM Fan Setting it was very loud and annoying. I got a replacement from Amazon and the second unit had the same problem right out of the box in low and medium fan setting very loud scratching/grinding noise, in HIGH Fan Setting the noise is less noticeable.
The AC still cools very well but this Fan Noise doesn't sound healthy and is very annoying if you use the AC in a bedroom or if you're noise sensitive.
I wouldn't recommend this AC for noise-sensitive people and in my opinion this noise is not normal. I have to reduce 2 stars from my initial review.

I got this air-conditioner this summer, thinking it would be enough to cool the bedroom. Much to my surprise, it cooled the entire apartment (almost twice the rated square feet, and a kitchen too)! Its small, pretty quiet, and has a programmable timer. The only thing that was annoying is that it didn't quite mount in the window, although I think this is more my very strange windows.
Great product!

I bought this Sharp window unit to replace a Sharp unit from almost 10 years back which ran very quiet in the bedroom (and still works -I just relocated it). This new unit is even quieter than the old one, and much, much quieter than my noisier Frigidaire units in other rooms. It cools my room (190 sq ft.) quickly with the right balance of temperature and humidity control. Two things that brought this unit down from 5 stars: I have a pretty accurate indoor temperature thermometer, and this unit's thermostat runs an average of 3 degrees too warm (so to achieve a desired indoor temperature of about 77 degrees, I have discovered that I need to set the unit to 74). Not sure if there's any particular reason for this, such as a defect in the thermostat or something. My old Sharp window unit was very accurate when using the same thermometer as a benchmark. All in all, a minor nuisance -I can do the math.
Secondly, I think the louvers designed to direct the airflow are too thin and only partially direct the air as most of it flows out parallel to the opening of the unit, even if it's fully directed upward or to the side. This might be more of a concern for some than for others (e.g. if a window is in a particular location or on the lower side of the room). For example, my desk is in direct path of the unit, and with my old AC I could deflect the cold airflow upward or to the side pretty completely to avoid the rush of cold air directly in my face but with the overall effect of cooling the room down. With the new unit, even with the louvers fully engaged, I still get the airflow more or less as a direct hit. This wouldn't always be a problem, depending on how cold you like the air directly hitting your skin or if your window opening is high relative to the rest of the room.
Besides these two caveats, the unit is designed well, easy to control, easy to install, and quieter than any other air conditioner I've ever used. Perfect for a bedroom!
Honest reviews on Sharp Electronics AFS60RX 6,000 BTU 115-Volt Window-Mounted Air
The flaw: it will not drain water from the unit, and eventually the water builds up so much that it will begin to hit the fan in the back of the unit (the large fan on the condenser). This is the "scratching" noise. There are ZERO holes for the water to drain... none. If you purchase this unit, you must drill holes in the bottom/back of the unit or it will inevitably begin making that "scratching" noise. Unbelievable. This unit should have been recalled or replaced at the cost of Sharp.Outside of that design flaw the unit works great! Has a remote, cools adequately, it's very quiet for an a/c... but all worthless because of that one flaw. I really feel bad for anyone who purchased this unit and does not have the mechanical skills or even just the physical ability (you need to drill the BOTTOM of an air conditioner) to fix this.

I bought this to replace an older Sharp model of the same size. That unit lasted five years of hard use. I'm cooling a west side room of 600sq/ft in the deserts of Arizona. The temps on that side reach 130 all summer so I know it worked hard and it still did an adequate job with a room bigger than it was designed for. I then ent and viewed all the brands in this size and the Sharp was the quietest of all on 'high' or 'low'. The power saver and auto cool features work well and I keep them on all the time. For my environment the side panel expander system is not up to the job so I did a proper enclosure.
