This is a really trick control unit. I mounted the high voltage controller close to the cooler and used 4 conductor low voltage t-stat wire to connect the thermostat which made it a really simple installation. There are 1/2 inch conduit connector knock-outs in the plastic controller housing which I mounted indoors. The pad pre-soak timer worked well and the controller automatically switched the blower motor from high to low when the temperature got close to the set point (I think it was one degree) I did not use the automatic purge contact yet but I plan to. The unit worked much better than expected and is much more accurate than the old bi-metal line voltage stat. This is a simple and inexpensive option for modernizing your evaporative cooler controls. I installed it in a rental and will be installing one in my home.

Not for little old ladies, youngsters, or office workers, but also not exclusive to A.C. Techs either, since one has to crawl in the attic to run new hook up wires to unit in a new installation or new location; plus wires to Cooler if the extra feature for discharge pump is used. Nonetheless, unit is of great service, convenience, comfort, and economy with its close range off-on duty cycle, a feature of low voltage digital thermostats, similar to those in modern central heaters. Simple to hook-up, clear instructions, excellent finish, and professional install box for outside mount, if required. My choice of provider was decided by previous experience with ComfortGurus, best price, and prompt shipping. Would not install again or replace, but with Dial 7624.

With all of our other evaporative coolers we had to turn them on and off as it got our house too cold or started warming up. With this one we set the temperature and it turns the cooler on and off to maintain a steady temperature. It also has a low setting and a high setting that it can utilize great for us who live in the Mojave Desert and have extreme temperatures.

There are two of these low voltage thermostat kits for swamp coolers. I can't remember the make of the other one, but if you see it you'll think "hey, that one looks better and is more modern" which is what I did. The display is larger and rectangle. That one has a huge flaw. If you have your cooler running and the power goes out it defaults to OFF! Ask me how many orchids burned up! So then I went back to the drawing board and researched this one and it has the "return to state" feature so if you have it cooling, it will return to cooling. Only state it won't remember is fan only. I love this thing, it switches my cooler fan from high to low to off depending. Also has a pre-cool feature that wets the pads before it turns on. It's a complete kit, comes with the low voltage thermostat and the little control relay box that goes in/on/near your cooler. Just uses low voltage thermostat wire to connect them.

It is functional but the back does not sit flush with the wall. You will have to cut a 1" x 1/2" hole in the wall to get it to sit flush. Further, no drywall screws / anchors were included.
