I was stupid enough to buy two of these. The first one died after I used it twice. My husband bought it for me, and I didn't want him to feel bad about buying me something that didn't work, so I went out and bought a replacement. The "new" one died the very first time I used it.

Save your money and just pour the oil into a pot on the stove and buy a cooking thermometer. I'm fed up with this product and won't purchase another from this brand.

I would give it NO STARS if I could.

UPDATE

I do have to be fair. After contacting the company, I learned about the reset button. I am using my first one (I returned the second to the store), and it works well.

Recently purchased this Kalorik 4 quart deep-fryer, and was disappointed by the quality of its contruction. On the upside, I used it to deep-fry a variety of vegetables, and it worked well. If you only occasionally need one, (and you perhaps find this Kalorik on sale in the $40. range), then it would probably work OK for you. I compared this device side-by-side with a different product at a store, (compared it with a "Waring DF250B 1800-Watt Deep Fryer", which was on sale for $40. as a refurbished item). Below are some observations;

PROS; The Kalorik works adequately for occasional use, & it can sometimes be priced low.

CONS; The Kalorik is poorly constructed, with non-curved edges on the outer metal-shell, which bend easily if you're not careful. The re-set button is deeply recessed (3 or 4 inches inside), inside the heating-element-casing so that you can't reach it (or even see it), ... if you ever need to re-set the unit [if it ever overheated], you would have a difficult time re-setting it,(this is a poor design for such a vital button). The instructions state specifically that you can not place the lid on the device when frying, so that results in some oil-spatter on the counter top.

Compared to the Waring Pro deep fryer, ... the Waring Pro is much more solid, (it has curved edges on all its metal edges that provided more strength), and it also had a better "domed" lid that you could use while cooking, to prevent oil spatter. The Waring device has an 1800 watt element, (in contrast to the Kalorik's 1500 watt element). Hope this helps.
