Our new heater was installed with a high-tech digital thermostat. It was time based rather than temperature based. What a waste of energy. This thermostat kicks in based on the set temperature, so it only turns on when the temperature goes one degree above or below the temperature you set and keeps a constant temperature. It's basic and easy to use. Installation took less than 15 minutes.

I'm not an electronics guru but found the thermostat VERY easy to install by myself. The removal of my old broken thermostat and install of the new thermostat took less than 5 minutes. It was just a twist of two screws and a twist of two wires. The thermostat is made of lightweight plastic that is easily supported and held snugly on the wall and easy to wipe clean. The new white thermostat looks way better than the ugly olive colored 30 yr old thermostat it replaced.
I originally bought the thermostat hoping it would fix the issue of having to turn the furnace on and off at the circuit breaker instead of the thermostat. It fixed the cold vent air issue that I didn't know I had and am now able to adjust the air from cool to hot when coming out of the vents since it now reads the room temp appropriately. Yay! It turn out there was also some cheap fuse/thermostat thingy broken on my furnace that is directly on the furnace itself that I needed to replace in order to fix the "it would be nice to turn the furnace on/off with the thermostat" problem. It figures it would be two broken parts, not just one.
The thermostat is well worth the $15 I paid for it. Since I live in a "manufactured home", it was nice to be able to buy a cheap thermostat that works for regular houses AND works in old manufactured houses. When I orderd it, I was worried it might not work or be compatible with my furnace and its old manufactured house wiring. I shouldn't have worried. It's a cheap "universal" furnace thermostat that can pretty much work on any furnace. Once I fixed the other broken part on the furnace, the new thermostat works great at keeping the house warm and adjusting the vent air temp appropriately. I have actually saved money on this last months heating bill (and it was a WAY colder month) now that the theromstat is turning the furnace on and off as it should and heating/cooling the vent air appropriately and able to detect the room temp appropriately. I should not have waited so long to get around to replacing the thermostat and the other broken part since the $15 thermostat and the other $15 part basically saved me that much money on last months bill alone. Not bad for a $15 thermostat.
