Do not even think about installing a White Rodgers programable unit if it is near your bedroom.

After having my sleep disturbed by LOUD MECHIANICAL CLICKING, I contacted W/R customer service. They stated that ALL the White-Rodgers programable thermostats make this CLICKING SOUND as they cycle on/off...and I will tell you it is LOUD! Figure out how many times it cycles on/of in a night and that is how many times YOUR SLEEP WILL BE DISTURBED. Might be fine if installed away from sleeping area, but not a unit where it is in the hallway near bedrooms.

I will be looking to ditch the White Rodgers and install another brand, but again, per WR, ALL their programables make this clicking sound. What a design flaw.

There are a couple of good points for this programable thermostat. Large display is easy to read. You dont have to be a rocket scientist to program it. It is very accurate with the temperature control. I had a previous White Rogers programable thermostat that lasted over ten years with no problems. It has a seperate program for cooling and heating temperature setpoints. So far a great product.

I had a decent programmable thermostat but the LCD read out was small and un-readable in dim lighting of my hallway.

This unit is back lit and has large easy to read numbers, the back lighting can be set to stay on all the time or go off after a few seconds. I got it because I tend to make adjustments when i get up in the morning and don't want to turn on lights and wake everyone up. The buttons are large and easy to use also when you are half asleep :)
