We have a Heatilator EcoChoice CAB50 pellet stove in our house, and it came with an old fashioned manual thermostat. It was always buggy, and sometimes you'd get up in the morning and find that it hadn't run all night, because the thermostat never clicked it on, despite it being 50 degrees in the house! :(

So, we bought this for 19.00 and figured, what do we have to lose?

The install was very simple. White wire to white wire slot, red wire to red wire slot that has a jumper (if you have two red wires, you remove the jumper). Attach to the wall, put battery in, cover, and viola... thermostat that works.

The only thing I don't like about this is that it's very sensitive. A change of 2 degrees will make this thing turn on! Very annoying, because alot of times, the stove will be cycling down, and then start right back up again. Why not just let the thing run :( You can fix that by just bumping the heat up so it keeps it on, and then back down. Annoying, but at least it's reliable. It runs. It starts the stove up and turns it off, and I have yet to wake up to a freezing cold house :)

So, overall: Great buy, easy install, needs one battery, easy use, very sensitive. Four stars.

Will update if anything changes.

Set and forget it.it is just wonderful. Large readout is great to for older people. It was easy to install and no more fussing with little needle that never seem to set the temp right

The price was right, and I only needed it for controlling an attic-mounted and ducted (originally 'window') A/C unit for a local zone guest bedroom in the house. I simply 'borrowed' (spliced into) the 24VAC from my furnace controls to power up this thermostat, which I mounted onto the bedroom wall by the door. The thermostat triggers a 30 Amp contactor up in the attic, which turns on & off that small A/C unit to maintain a desired room temperature.

In case you're interested, after stripping off all of the sheet metal and plastic, I sit the small bare A/C unit in one of those 24" plastic water heater pans, which will collect the A/C's condensation until it evaporates into the hot attic air. Home Depot ducting pieces are attached with good old Gorilla Tape, and the cool air is ducted over to a small 4-way register, cut into the ceiling near the center of the bedroom. Whole job takes about 2-3 hours.

This scheme saves all kinds of money, vs. running the whole-house A/C, just to keep one room cool And best of all, the unit is 'hidden' in the attic and still works great, rather than sticking out of the front bedroom window, looking like some kind of ugly tenement housing project....... My neighbors 'frown' on things like that (and I guess I do, too).
