I have no affiliation with any builder, manufacturer, or any company involved with this product. I am just a homeowner doing a remodeling project that wanted a Fake Fireplace. You really should check this out on You Tube, It is really great, you should see it.
I found this Faux Fireplace because I was remodeling my home. I grew up with a real wood burning fireplace with a Mantel, and loved it. Burn when I got married, our home had no real fireplace, so for 20 years I have done without. My Roaring Fire Fix was getting a Cabin in the Winter for a long weekend and having a fire. Well, that was okay, but I always missed the Winter Fireplace at Home growing up. Last Year we decided to build our Dream Home. We decided to modify our Family room into a Home Theatre, and I wanted a fireplace too.
So, . . . How do I get a Fireplace in a room with a Big Screen TV and all the equipment. You have to worry about producing Heat, and my wife always commented on our weekend getaways about it getting too Warm, so I looked around. My criteria were: 1) a VERY Realistic Fire effect; 2) Little or No heat production. I did not want a cheesy color wheel and plastic flames!
I came across the Dimplex OptiMyst Electric Fireplaces. I checked them out on You Tube, and was impressed. The Fire Effect is VERY Realistic. The Effect is generated by water vapor and lighting, so the effect is random, and the only heat is from the light bulbs. You actually can reach right into the "Flame" and all you will feel is warm moist air. So, . . . Realistic, CHECK! Little or No Heat Production, CHECK! AND, is DOES HAVE a HEATER if you want to turn it on.
Because I was having a Mantel created I opted for the Fireplace Insert, rather than a whole Fireplace including Mantel, (which Dimplex also sells). A word of Caution, Dimplex also makes other kinds of Faux Fireplaces, so be careful if you order, because they do not all use the same process as the Optymyst Line.
With the Fireplace effect on, but no Heat on, the room does become a more humid, but I was testing it in April, (I just couldn't wait any longer for my Remodel to be done.) so the Moist Spring Air may have been a factor, versus the typically Dry Winter air we have in Ohio. My Audio Video guy warned that using this Fireplace under a Big Screen TV could void the warranty by risking heat damage from the Heater, and Moisture Damage from the Humidity, so know your risks, and use good judgement on use and placement. I don't plan to use the heater, and do plan to use a circulating ceiling fan in the room to try to disburse the humidity thru the room.
A last few comments. The Fireplace is rated low on the energy cost scale, but I have not had it run but a couple hours, so I can't say how accurate that would be with or without heater on. Also, USE ONLY FILTERED TAP WATER to keep the System in good working order, and do not leave water in the tank for weeks at a time, (Dimplex warns this, I don't know why, but at these prices why take a chance). I found it very easy to remove the mechanism and drain. I tried to view this in a showroom in Ohio, but did not find it in the store, I called first, and suggest you save the driving and call to verify they have them on display. You Tube has several store in the States showing them, so other areas may have them available to check out.

After searching for an electric fireplace for my bedroom and only finding very fake looking ones, I happened upon a video on youtube for the Dimplex Optimyst. What an amazing electric fireplace. I can't believe how realistic the flames look in real life and it puts out optional heat too! The only bummer is that it does not include a sound box to create that realistic fire sound of hissing and popping like a real fire does but you hardly miss it. The seller shipped it very fast and in perfect condition.Best Deals on Dimplex DFOP25 25-Inch OptiMyst Electric Fireplace Insert
I've decided to add this fireplace to my casa. Everyone that checks it out says that it's amazing. The flames are great and have a controllable height and the heater works just as intended. I recommend this to anyone who is looking to go electric, even though it's way more expensive than many other brands you will easily forget that its electric as soon as you plug it in.The cons for this item are that it is basically sheet metal so you may have to tweek it for that "custom" fit depending on the size of area you have available. Lastly, the light from the center flame tends to bleed through and you'll see an "ambient" orange line on your ceiling.
Great product though, highly recommended.
