Premise:
After I received the box of the product, at the bottom says "Due to continued improvement, the product illustrated on this carton may vary slightly from the actual product." I also see several bad grammars around it and as well as the manual. I don't even fully trust what the manual tells me and most of the stuff written is mostly to me, common sense.
Design:
I inspected the parts given to me and I wasn't impressed since after all, "I get what I paid for" like what everyone in Amazon says. It looks and feels cheap. What swing my mood was that the detachable handle for the basket was so complicated, yet so risky to put on, that I became pessimistic and I felt that I made the wrong choice. Last thing I need was this thing acting like a home-grown terrorist bomb in my kitchen (see: http://www.amazon.com/review/R12QI2SN5O1OZ8/ref=cm_cr_pr_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00005KB37&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=#wasThisHelpful)!
Overall experience:
I was wary on the first use and decided to try frying up some instant noodles with it. It actually turned out fried in less than a minute with the max heat (375 F). I regained some confidence for the product and then decide to fry up the next dish, breaded fish fillet. With careful procedures, the cooking execution came out successful and I was happy with the product. I've then made more fry dishes after and there wasn't any problem. The window isn't that great for viewing as steam always fogs it up. Vapor would seep into the two-layer lid (metal and plastic).
The clean-up a bit tedious. I first had to transfer the oil. Add hot water just enough to swivel it inside to get some oil out. Do a couple of rinsing and then start scrubbing it with a soapy sponge. The whole cleaning was mostly done in the frying ditch. To rinse the soap, I just repeatedly fill it halfway with water and pour. Then I just wipe off the remaining soap.
Edit 5/6/2013:
Dropped the rating from 3 stars to 1.
Product broke after several uses. I was frying potato slices and fries when it stopped dead on me. Very sure that the plug was still intact as I checked many times. My power ports aren't damaged. My theory is that all my cooking with the fryer was above 300 F and the circuit board was overheated for too long. If this is the case, I won't even waste anymore money just to get a replacement even though I'm warranted for 1 year in their policy paper because it will die again. The shipping money to their manufacture will just add up to more than $30. I would have kept the rating as a 3 if they were honest with the pricing per uses, such as $10 for 5 uses since it did cook my food well.

This is a really good deep fryer that is suitably sized for 1-2 servings of your everyday things like fries, onion rings, egg rolls etc. I have found that it also acts very well as a steamer; just a little water & the lid snaps closed. The reason that I give it only 4 stars tho, instead of 5, is because of the magnetized cord...it makes it very easy for someone like me with arthritis in my hands to plug it into the fryer but it also detaches very easily & unnoticebly, which makes me nervous because if its still plugged into the wall thats live electricity coming thru it, so i recommend that purchasers of this product be aware of this. Other than that one thing I believe anyone would be very pleased with it.
