This has several modes. On/Off (with timer), thermostat and setback. Setback (or schedule) is the useful one. You can put the remote wherever you want, more flexibly than a wired thermostat, and it can have the same type of schedule... four times (on/off/on/off) for M-F/S/S. (That's 12 times.) Each has it's own temperature. Just like a thermostat.
The only downside is that it's really inconvenient to switch back to setback mode. You can turn the fireplace on or off with the remote at any point, but turning it back to the scheduled mode is something strange like holding "On"+"Set" for three seconds.
The receiver battery only lasts about six months. It took a while to determine it needed changing.
So this is a great value for an easy-to-install and really need unit.

I purchased one of these several years ago and really liked it. When replacing the battery, I cracked the case and used black tape to repair it. Finally the tape idea wasn't working too well so I decided I was going to have to replace it. After shopping the internet trying to compare value, I went right back to this one....! Great value the first time and I'm sure it will be again. Very accurate and easy to install.
