This is a great little thermostat. No frills with a simple 5/2 (weekdays/weekends) program and 4 events (wake / leave / return / sleep) per day. So as long as you have a regular monday-friday schedule and don't need a unique program for each day, this will work great. It's very easy to do temporary overrides or even sustained ones with the "hold" feature. The display is backlit, so there's no need to turn on the lights if you wake up in the middle of the night and it's a little warm (or cold).
It also has a nice "compressor protection" feature which prevents the A/C from turning on too soon after the end of a cycle and overheating the motor or freezing the coils. So if the air just finished a cycle and you want it to get colder, you will will have to wait a few minutes, but it could save you an expensive service call, especially if you have older relatives in the house who are never comfortable no matter what the temperature is.
A big attraction for me was the vertical orientation of the unit. It's very hard to find a decent programmable thermostat that is vertical. Well I wanted to cover the hole in my wall without getting a giant eyesore or turning a regular one sideways, so I didn't have a lot of options. I previously had the RiteTemp touchscreen unit from Home Depot, but the touchscreen died, which rendered it useless for anything other than what was already programmed into it.
This little guy is cheaper than almost anything else, is uniquely vertical, and works great. For the money, it pays for itself in a month or two, so give it a try.

This is an awesome thermostat. It's the only vertical 5/2 day programmable one I could find, so points for that. Then, it does 4 temperature changes a day: wake, leave, return, and sleep. Don't think I could need anything more! And, on top of all of that, it has "Adaptive Intelligent Recovery" meaning you set it for the time you want it to be that temperature and it automatically figures out how soon to start heating up/cooling down. Simply amazing at the ~$30 price I paid!Best Deals on Honeywell TH2110D1009 Pro 2000 Single Stage 1-Heat/Cool Thermostat
This thermostat worked just right as a replacement for an old Honeywell unit with a similar footprint. The older mercury switch thermostat was analog without backlighting, and accuracy left something to be desired. This was easy to install with just some minor paint touch-up required around the thermostat. The wall hole placement for the wiring behind the old thermostat had to be slightly enlarged (downward) to accomodate this new back plate, but other than that, it was just a matter of figuring out exactly how to feed/connect the wiring to the new terminals. The thermostat worked perfectly as a replacement, and was very easy to program.

I got this on October 15th and installed it that same day (which happened to be the very start of my heating bill cycle). It took me about 15 minutes to install it from start to finish, and I've never installed one of these before I am a little handy but no pro to be sure.I set it up so that the temperature is 68 during times when we are usually at home and 60 overnight and when I'm at work and my son is at school. If I happen to be home during one of those times (or up late), all I have to do is hit the up button to the temperature I want and it will keep it that way until the next cycle starts where it would lower it then it goes back onto the regular schedule. This is such a nice feature!!!
I live in Pittsburgh, PA, where it can get pretty cold in the winter. While it hasn't been a crazy winter it has been below freezing most of the days since this was installed. There was also a lot of snow on the ground and on the house during most this time.
Without getting into extreme detail, I figured out from temperature ranges over the course of a month (yes, I keep track of this stuff over the course of 5 years) that my last 3 bills should have been as follows:
1) October 15 to November 15th should have been around $120. Instead it was $75. That's $45 savings due solely to a unit that cost me around $33.
2) November 15 to December 15, my bill should have been around $150. Instead my bill was $98. Another $52 saved.
3) December 15 to January 15, my bill should have been $180. It's $118. That's another $62.
Totaled up, over 3 months, I've saved $159. Sure, my numbers could be off a little bit, but let's say I'm off 25%. That's still way over $100 saved in 3 months.
My only problem with this unit is that it didn't come to my house and hit me on the head many years ago, forcing me to install it. This is the best investment in the house I've made in a very long time. If you have an old style thermostat, replace it with one of these (or at least another kind that you can program) you won't regret it!

This thermostat seemed fine when I bought it last spring. I've had good luck with Honeywell thermostats, and I needed a programmable thermostat in a vertical configuration to fit a narrow space on the wall. However, early in this year's heating season my TH2110D ran amok. It started regularly overrunning the specified temperature, and within three days was heating my weatherized porch at 76 degrees instead of the set point of 68 degrees. So much for energy savings!I checked all the settings and they were still correct for my hot water gas-fired heating system. I replaced this thermostat with an older unit that I still had and the old unit worked fine. Since I am not a professional heating contractor, Honeywell does not honor their warranty. Since I'm way past Amazon's return period, I have no recourse. Buyer beware!
Pros:
Slim vertical design, adaptive intelligent recovery feature, backlit display, 5-2 day programming
Cons:
Not reliable and no warranty for non-professional owners.
