Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I needed to replace my old waffle maker as it was a decade old. I'm glad I chose this one. All the waffles I've made with this have turned out crispy and delicious. The heart pattern that you get with this make is unique and cute. They waffles are smaller, thinner and crispier than those made by the waffle maker I got in college, but that's okay because you won't hear a complaint about these. You can control how dark your waffles get with the dial on the very top. The waffle maker only takes three minutes to warm up and three minutes to cook the waffle which is great as you can use this even when in a rush.

The outside is stainless steel and the inside is nonstick aluminum. Clean up is a snap and just as quick as making the waffles. I was extremely impressed with this machine and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg either. The only downside is that he cord seems way too short and it makes plugging in the maker a bit of a chore depending on where the outlets are in your kitchen. All in all though, this is a great buy and a happy addition to my family of kitchen gadgets.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I've never owned a waffle maker before, so my previous experiences in waffle-making happened mostly at hotels, with their more heavy-duty machines. I immediately noticed one major difference: every waffle maker I've used before had a timer, so you could just pour the batter in and then basically stop paying attention. There's no timer here, and the way to tell whether the waffle is done is that the steam decreases significantly. Functionally, this works out fine; all our waffles turned out okay, and only one was a teeny tiny bit darker than I might have liked. It does make the process a bit more stressful and attention-consuming, though. It's not a huge deal, but there is obviously a difference between putting batter in and waiting for a beep, versus actually paying attention to the machine more or less continuously. But this seems to be normal for personal waffle makers, and as I said, it isn't really a big deal, just something to be aware of.

What did make it slightly more of a big deal was the fact that the cord is really, really short. We wanted to cook the waffles right at the table, so that we could eat them as they became ready while sitting around chatting all together. The outlet is really not far away, but it just wasn't happening with such a short cord, and we didn't have an extension cord on hand. So one person ended up off in the corner by themselves, supervising the waffles, which wasn't an ideal situation. Either a beep to indicate when they were done, or a longer cord, would have resolved this issue.

These are still pretty minor things, though. When it comes to what really matters, we were happy: the machine makes tasty waffles. I'm not sure how other personal waffle makers compare, but this one certainly gets the job done.

One final note about something that we found a bit confusing: the red light goes on when the waffle maker is plugged in, and the green light goes on when it's hot enough to start using. But the red light doesn't go off when the green light goes on. So both lights will be on together, indicating that the waffle maker is both plugged in and hot enough, when it's ready to go.

IT makes heart shaped, or triangle waffles. The waffles come out thinner, crispier, than those made by our giant square waffle maker. This waffle maker stores easily, and the waffles are big enough to divide three ways, so that everyone can get started. We ran a short extension cord, and plugged this in at the table, so that we could start on waffles, and keep making them as we go.

Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to understand, and stores easily. Will still keep the large square waffle maker, but this is a great adjunct, and for large breakfast gatherings, we will have two in service.

Good buy, and maybe a perfect apartment waffle maker.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Back in my divorce many moons ago, one of the material things I lost was the waffle maker. I never realized how much until I got this Nesco waffle iron and re-discovered the joy of homemade waffles.

One feature that is an upgrade from my old Oster is the setting dial. I made about a dozen this morning and tried various settings. Medium is about as low as I'd want it, otherwise, you're going to get a fairly limp and possibly undercooked goody. Just a few notches above dead center medium makes a nice crispy but still light and perfect waffle. There's a lot of room for different degrees, so those who prefer a crispier one have nothing to worry about.

Straight out of the box set-up was all it took (I wiped it off with a damp cloth before pouring the first batter in there were no discernible taste effects) and I was making waffles within minutes of plugging it in. Likewise, clean-up was a breeze with a simple damp cloth wipe, and if you use about 2/3 of a cup of batter, you should get a perfect waffle. The six heart shapes are unique and a fun way to keep mouths full while you wait for the next one to cook. I plan to get plenty of weekend waffle use out of this lovely device.

If I had to pick a complaint, it'd be that there is no recipe booklet inside, so I had to do a quick internet search for a waffle recipe. For those who have it down or have cook books, this shouldn't be an issue whatsoever. The cord is a bit short, but most kitchens have plenty of outlets, so again, no worries.

This is a great device and the price seems right to me for how much use you'd get and the savings off of store bought frozen waffles. Breakfast just stepped up in my life. Enjoy!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'd previously been using a sandwich maker with waffle-insert to make waffles, and it produced thick, Belgian-style ones but was a little bit messy.

This Nesco model produces six heart-shaped waffles, but they are rather slim (more like pancakes) than the chunky Belgian style that many people prefer. Still, it's very easy to use and I had no problems with it. The ability to control the crispness (whether you like your waffles light or dark) is nice, and cleaning it up was easy.

I did notice that you have to be careful not to use too much batter, or it will leak out the back, but that's probably the case for any machine. Also, the instructions recommend using cooking oil spray on the metal pads and I'd suggest respraying them before every cook. When I put blueberries in my waffle batter, they did stick to the heating elements, so this machine is probably better suited to keeping things plain.

Still, everything tasted good and was cooked evenly and properly, so it's hard to complain. Just don't expect chunky, thick Belgian-style waffles!
