The heat is coming from the bottom and doesn't heats up the handles that are on the top. It uses two 40W E12 lamps that can be replaced from the back.

Energy consumption:

I used a Kill-a-Watt to measure how much energy it consumes. This electronic fireplace has three rocker switches. The first one is for light display only. The other two switches is to turn on the heater. There are two rotating knobs. The one on the left is for the light display intensity. The one on the right is a dumb knob for the heater temperature. It is actually just a two step switch. It doesn't adjust gradually. Nothing happens until you turn the knob past halfway before the light on the second heater switch turns on. After passing halfway, the heat will not intensify more even if you turn the knob all the way to the highest setting.

Light only, dimmest setting = 53W

Light only, brightest setting = 78W

Light + 1 heater switch = 731W

Light + 2 heater switches = 1,311W

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have not had an electric fireplace before. But, I was certainly surprised at the heating uniformity this one produced. I was suspicious that it would heat in one spot, like those small space heaters.

I placed this in the lowest level of my home. I have a Tri-level and the basement level is the coldest. Although it is not too cold yet, this electric Fireplace threw out some instant heat. The heat soon radiated into the room, and it kept the heat in the room uniform.

I liked the look of the flames and the wood, as it is quite realistic. The flames are high, and consistently producing nice images of fire.

My only concern is that the flames are placed in the back, and I would like the flames to billow out of the "logs" also. So, the logs are lit, and the flames are in the back.

The unit, itself, does not get hot, and there is an auto safety feature. You can operate this with or without the heat. PLUS, you can operate one heating element or both for greater warmth.

I placed the Fireplace in the Living Room, and I got a very nice uniform heat. I will, of course, raise the fireplace for more of a level to eye view and enjoyment.

This one is smaller than my other unit Frigidaire CMSF-10310 Cleveland Floor Standing Electric Fireplace Black. It is compact and easy to move. It certainly does not take up much space.

But what I do not know yet is if this uses more electricity than normal. I will test it out, But, in the meanwhile, it is wonderful!! Works great, looks better! Rizzo

Since we live in the Southwest we've yet to experience any real winter this year so have just used it during the cool mornings of late. We cannot wait for real frosty winter to arrive as we have visions of toasty evenings watching TV.

We're pleased that we don't have to heat the entire villa to make us comfortable in one room. What a boon when the bill comes around!

Think the price for it is quite reasonable and for us a Frigidaire product is a good, dependable one.

Since it's a 'fireplace,' you want it out in the open to admire it, but it's too small to act like a fireplace. If you end up putting it close to you to act as a space heater, you lose a lot of the ambiance of the fireplace and starts to look really fake. I do like that it has two heat settings -and can put out a respectable amount of heat for its size -but I think I'd opt for one of the bigger, more expensive ones over this one. It's really too small and 'space heater like' to really appreciate as a fireplace.

It gives off a pleasant orange glow in addition to the heat coming from the bottom of the unit. The control that operates the fire appearance is a rheostat on the back panel the visual effects cannot be turned off if the unit is turned on. That is, you can't have just the heat without any visual effects; even at the dimmest setting, the effects may be too bright in an otherwise dark room. The heater control can be run at half power as there are two heater switches. Leave one off and you get half the heat at half the power. I found that to be sufficient in most cases.

The only downside of the unit is the noise. The white noise from the fan is considerable in a quiet room. It isn't grating in any way but would require that you turn up your music or watch TV at a higher volume than you might otherwise in the same space. I'd prefer a quieter fan.

In comparing this with other portable heaters that I have, this unit produces the same amount of heat but costs considerably more. You're paying here for the fireplace appearance. If that's what you are looking for, there's no question that visually this product is far more appealing than your run of the mill beige colored heat generating boxes. But if the heat is what you're looking for, and visual effects are secondary, look elsewhere.

One final point of concern is the warning in the product brochure: "This fireplace is intended for supplemental heat and/or decorative purposes. Continuous use for several hours can impact the performance and life of the fireplace." This may be of concern for those who might think to use the product, say, in their home office for 7-8 hours a day during the winter or who put it in their bedroom to keep the room warm at night after they turn down the house thermostat.

It won't allow me to leave 1/2 stars, but I would actually give this 4.5 out of 5 stars. To explain, the mattress pad fits our KING pillow topped mattress fantastically, is comfortable, and is everything they claim it to be, HOWEVER, (BIG HOWEVER HERE!) you may find if your home is technologically inclined and you have wireless gadgets here and there that you might have a little bit of difficulty getting the heater to actually work at all.

We have baby monitors which are 900 mHz, and a 2.4 gHz wireless video monitor, as well as the run of the mill wireless N wifi, and an odd band "Microwave internet service" that interferes with everything, so initially the heater DID NOT WORK whatsoever..

This is where you read the manual, it will explain how to overcome having two of the same type of heater in your home, not that other items may interfere.. We didn't have two mattress heaters in the home, so I deduced that we had some interference going on with some gadget in the house and followed the frequency change instructions in the owner's manual, it actually took about 3 frequency changes to overcome all the interference..

NOW we're all toasty, and comfy.. so far.. so I will take away 1/2 a star and hopefully we won't have a recurring problem after I post this.. took me about an hour of reading and fiddling around to get it to work.. long and short, if your pad isn't heating, don't automatically assume it is broken, it's just a little interference..

This particular heated mattress pad has been a tremendous product so far. With two big dogs jumping on the bed every now and then (not to mention sleeping on it too), our king size Sunbeam product has withstood the rigors of our everyday life. Its quick to set up, provides easy instructions and allows you to customize to what seems infinite comfort settings for both sides. It quickly heats up and keeps the heat in each particular zone. That's important if you share the bed with someone who differs on the amount of heat desired. A bit pricey, but I've had relatives spend much less for a heated mattress pad that doesn't last. More than 5 stars! I gave this to my Mom for Christmas and she has told me on several occasions how fantastic it is and how much she loves it and how she wishes she had it a long time ago. I have had mixed success with heated mattress pads. When they work properly, they are very good. When they don't, they can be frustrating.

This is my third Sunbeam heated mattress pad. The first one worked very well for years and was distroyed when our home burned in a wildfire. It's replacement worked fine for about two years and then became very spotty. The maximum temperature got lower and lower until it put out almost no heat at all. The second one had a remote control that worked part-time. Getting it to communicate with the base unit could be maddening and I swore I wouldn't ever get another remote.

This one (okey, I broke down and got a remote) works exceptionally well. The remote communicates every time, the zones work as advertised and the heat output is very good.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the second one's poor performance was an anomaly.

I bought this fireplace for my bedroom which is on the opposite side of my house from the furnace. By the time the warm air from the furnace reaches my bedroom in the winter time the warm air is not so warm anymore. So, I am using this for the ambiance in my bedroom as well as functional heating that has been working quite well. I love the height because it is perfect for my 42" plasma TV. Also the warm look of the oak adds a nice look to my bedroom. I was slightly disappointed that not all the woods matched when putting it together but, unless your a perfectionist like me you really don't notice it. Also the holes in the top piece were not drilled properly and had to be re-drilled. It was well worth the effort because the fireplace looks fabulous! I put it together myself and it took me about 2 hours to complete. If your looking for a little extra heat somewhere I highly recommend this fireplace.

I use this AC to cool my bedroom that's about 225 sq. ft. The manufacturer claims this unit is capable of cooling easily upto 250 sq. ft.

I've been using this AC for a week. The air it puts out is definately cool but this AC cannot cool the room more than 2-3 degrees, yes, farenheit. It cools the room by a couple degrees in the first hour, after that I can't see any difference whether the AC is on or not.

Well, ok, to be fair, the difference is that it does make noise and consume gobs of power without cooling anything.

I bought this last summer to use in a new home I purchased that has no air conditioning. It was crappy then it's crappy now. Tonight I had it going full blast and it said the ambient air temperature is between 76-78. The out door temperature is 81 or so. It has no use during the daytime heat so I don't even bother turning it on and luckily I'm out of the house. It's so loud it reminds me of those god awful noisy air conditioners in hotel rooms. I might as well go get a hotel room on the hottest nights because they cool the room better than this stupid thing. If you are moving it around to drain it or whatever it leaks EVERYWHERE!! My bedroom is only 300 sq ft. This air conditioner wouldn't cool a closet! Go check out the directions they are posted on Homedepot.com they are a total laugh. It says if it is too hot close the curtains or maybe their are too many people in the room! Yeah right, that's what's wrong with it.

I had no unreasonable expectations about this product, since I knew it would be thermally coupled to the (warm) computer through the rather short usb cable extension, but this device far underachieved even my rather low expectations. In short, it has three shortcomings I discovered after a brief testing:

1) If you attempt to measure a temperature slightly above 37 C, it will get "stuck" at 37.00 C, which is a very suspicious property. Only if the temperature exceeds 39 C will it get "unstuck", and produce a higher temperature reading. The curve plotted by the nice software bundled with the device makes this "bug" obvious.

2) It has an obvious hysteresis: the temperature reading in the same room depends on the starting temperature of the device (if you pre-heat it or pre-cool it, the final reading is different, after a reasonable equilibration time). The hysteresis is more than 2.0 C, which is unacceptable.

3) It significantly over-estimates the ambient temperature, probably due to the thermal coupling with the computer.

On the plus side, I can only say that I love the software bundled with it, with curve plotting etc. I only wish the thermometer itself was accurate to at least 1.0 F (0.56 C), which is all I needed.

For years, I have wanted to remotely monitor the temperature in server rooms. These are the type of rooms that if one industrial air condioner dies, the room gets very hot very quick. So it would be nice to know the room temperature without having to visit the site in person.

Other similar products I have looked at over the years, have cost at least $200. The misers I worked for, would not go for that.

I was thrilled to see this device at this price. I immediately ordered two without hesitation. The included software works, but it is not the greatest. I used third party software called UTAC. (USB TEMPer Advanced Control) UTAC sets up a nice little web server that displays a nice graph of the current temperature. Very nice. It also allows configuring low and high temperature thresholds with automatic e-mail alerts. Even better! No worries about temperature. I will receive automated temperature alerts now.

This device + UTAC = Great capability at a great price.

A welcome addition to our server room. No complaints.

I think both of the previous reviewers suffer from a bit of unrealistic expectations. The TEMPer is $9, after all, significantly less expensive than other USB thermal probes. They advertise 2 deg C (+/1.8 deg F) accuracy, and my experience with two of them bears this out. All I wanted was something to get into the ballpark for remote thermal monitoring with automated notification for over-temp. This does the trick quite nicely. I also am not sure what the beef is with the included software. Although it does not provide for automated FTP upload like UTAC does, it does include automated e-mail notification, automated data logging to both text and CSV, and basic plotting all at user specified collection intervals. Also allows for error compensation when calibrating against a more accurate thermometer. The included USB extension cable serves to decouple the probe from the computer if needed. Only had them up and going for a few days but so far no obvious glitches. Is basically no accompanying documentation but was not difficult to figure out. If it had cost more I would have rated it lower, but at this price I don't know what more anyone could reasonably expect.

This item is a very cheap chinese import. The package and documentation have many mispelled words. I only mention that because it also matched the quality of the product: bad. The driver installer did not work, so I had to manually mess with the files to install it. It read a constant 83 whether it was in a 70 degree office or a 20 degree freezer. The seller was great about a quick refund, but didn't even want me to ship the item back. Just plain junk.

While this thermometer is cheap in comparison to other USB thermometers, it does the job well on a computer running XP. Unfortunately, the software it comes with is poor to say the least, but that isn't a problem because there are some really good alternatives such as UTAC (freeware). With UTAC, TEMPer becomes a very useful tool enabling email alerts upon temp changes, webserver monitoring and other neat features.

On the downside, on comparing the performance of two TEMPers I found that they deviated by about 1 degree celcius, so you might want to calibrate TEMPer against a more accurate thermometer (possible in UTAC). While TEMPer might be good for monitoring server room temperatures, if you want to monitor freezer or external temperatures you will need TEMPerNTC which has a waterproof probe.

As was said int he other review the item is nothing like the picture. The 24v output has screw on terminals. Also there is no circuit breaker built in (however it does indicate some kind of protection). With that said this was much higher quality then the transformer I replaced and felt heavy duty.

Just remember to always shut off furnace power when working on ac condenser so you don't fry your transformer :)

I have 6 of these in my office for almost 12 years. I bought this one as a replacement because I though one was failing. Turned out there was a different problem, and the replacement is still in it's box.

This unit does NOT have a battery back-up, so if the power goes out, you have to reset the time. The other settings are saved. Have no idea why it saves some settings but not others. Changing the time is a snap to fix, however.

The cost / benefit ratio on this unit is great. A great product.
