I use this hot plate in my print shop. It was a much cheaper option than those available at art supply stores, a good value for the price. However, it does bow up in the middle and doesn't have an adjustable thermostat. I have to unplug it when it gets to hot.

Purchased this product as a more attractive space heater for my bedroom. The actual fireplace was delivered before the cabinet so don't be alarmed if you receive separate shipments. Putting the cabinet together was very simple and can be done by one person with little mechanical skills. I would recommend using wood glue to keep the wooden pegs that help hold the pieces together better. The wood stain and slate frontage piece look terrific and I have received compliments after I set it up. The remote makes it easy to control. I use this in a bedroom that has about 400sq feet with high ceilings and even at half heat mode, it kept the room warm. A great look to any room; I am very happy with this fireplace. I hope you enjoy it as much!

Totally worth the money! It is a quality piece. I was able to assemble it myself (it was that easy) You only need a screwdriver and it was a good thing since thats all I've got :) It locks together securely and know that no matter how many times I move, it can take it! Wasn't quite sure by the description of all that it was capable of, so I'll let you know. You can manually adjust or use the remote to turn it on/off (both just the fire effects and/or the heater), adjust the brightness of the logs from off to super bright, adjust the flaming effect from off to high effects (which is a little added niceness that I didn't know I was getting). And the switches and dials are hard to get to (I had to use a pencil to switch it on) which is nice because I'm not worried about my small children being able to play with them. I have nice new things but this is definitely the nicest thing in the room :)

I bought this in January and the mantle came damaged. I called costumer service for the company and I got a REAL person and they said they would send a new one out. It arrived within the week. The fireplace looks and works great. I use it in a large open room and am happy with the heat it generates.

To assemble it took 2 people to slide the front panel(s) on because the hardware didn't hold it together real well. I recommend some glue for the dowelsthey were a little loose. When you attach the sides to the front make sure you pull the sides toward the middle. I had to redo this part because I couldn't get the top mantle on (the side leaned out a little too much on the one corner). Otherwise installation was pretty simple.

Received fireplace yesterday, it was easy to put together and looks great. Only issue at all was the wooden dowels are a little loose in some holes so I applied a little Elmers wood glue to the dowels. The fire box's fake flame isn't as realistic as the top of the line units, but it looks good. The wood work is very nice and absolutely looks great. For the price we couldn't find anything that comes close to looking this good in local retail stores. Ordered the fireplace on a Monday morning and received it Wednesday (2 days)with regular shipping at no extra charge. In all we couldn't be happier with this purchase.

We purchased this electric fireplace to sit in the corner of our living room. It has an attractive physical presence and looks nice in its location. It is substantial and well built. The ability to turn on the "flame" without the heat is a nice touch.

It is shipped in two packages one includes the cabinet and the other includes the heating unit. The cabinet is extremely well packaged and one would be unlikely to obtain it in a damaged condition. I was impressed with how well they packaged it.

But we were a bit disappointed in the "oak finish". It does not match the rest of our oak furniture as it has a darker finish (darker than the pictures show it to be). Still, it is quite attractive and "COZY IN KENTUCKY", who stated below that it looks better than the pictures, is correct.

Assembly is easy, but will take some time. Set aside an hour or two and use wood glue on the wooden dowels as others have suggested. While it is much easier to assemble with two people, one person can handle the task although it could be awkward to do so. An electric screwdriver is a great help. Instructions were supposed to be included, but were not included in my packaging. All else was as it should be. The instructions are easy to obtain and seem to be commonly left out of the package as SEI has spelled out how to obtain them in their FAQ. A simple call, or email, will result in the instructions being faxed or emailed directly to you. Unfortunately, SEI is not open past 5PM CST on Friday. If you have plans to assemble the unit over the weekend, and your instructions were not included, you will be out of luck until Monday. I found several people across the internet trying to locate the instructions and in the same fix as myself.

Overall, this is a nice unit, easy to assemble, works as it should, and is quite attractive. If you are looking for a reasonably cheap and good looking electric fireplace, you should consider this one.

I bought this primarily for use during the football season when Sunday Funday is at my house every week. I am finding that it has come in handy for a couple of other events, including my daughter's baby shower. The construction is very solid, and it performs as I had expected. After the date had expired for the Dimplex stove to be delivered, (remember, I didn't set the delivery deadline!)I contacted the seller who gave the excuse that all the Dimplex stoves were delayed in being shipped. However, once the problem had been addressed, I was offered a 10% discount which was to be credited to my card (it was not explained initially that it would be either a discount on the price of the unit itself or a credit to my account). I have not as of this date been credited (perhaps next billing cycle) but did receive the Dimplex stove in perfect condition within days of my inquiry. I was interested in a unit which did not exceed 1500 watts on the high setting as I was concerned any higher wattage would need a dedicated line; remember though, that most hair dryers are 1600 or more watts but we don't operate them all the time. I really didn't want the flame effect, just the heater which was a little larger than the small ones sold in major stores such as Wal-Mart, Lowe's, etc., but to my surprise, the flame gives just enough light so that I am able to turn off the lamp I previously kept on in the room where I have the stove. The blower is very quiet and actually gives a soothing noise which is conducive to sleep. I usually keep it on low but if it were really cold, the high setting would heat a small room or two if they were closed off. It is just enough heat to take the chill off cool evenings. I would venture to say that the heater would be a romantic addition to a bedroom as it is absolutely charming with its glowing flame effect and gentle heat. The stove is only guaranteed for a year, but then so too was a very expensive oven which I purchased for my kitchen and INDEED it was dead in about a year.... so don't expect TOO much from this charming stove for the money. I only wish Dimplex sold these in stores such as Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, etc., as it puts to shame the heaters/stoves they sell for less money, but who wants their utilitarian heaters/stoves junking up their home? To date, I am very happy with the Dimplex Free Standing Cube stove. As my husband states, "tell them in the review that the stove is lovely." (I can't believe HE said that but he really did!)

I moved into a town home and really wanted a fireplace: Began doing research and found this solution! It is retro cool! It is the perfect amount of cheeze in a box. I love it, my daughter loves it, my cat loves it! One of the features that we enjoy is that you can have the fire effect on with no heat. So even when it is warm and rainy, you can have the effect of a fire and its soothing nature. I read some reviews that people were sad that it doesn't crackle like a fire, but it isn't fire it is a cool electric heater! Oh, and another selling point, is that because it is on a chrome pedestal it can be set on carpet (I confirmed this with Dimplex)...and it is portable. I don't know how well it heats a space yet, because it is summertime, but I suspect it will live up to its claims.

This thing is adorable, works like a powerhouse, and has been doing so steadily for over a year. It looks like a real fireplace, and makes the apartment feel much homier. It has a huge display and large numbers. Display will light up when you touch any button. It evenhas its own light switch which is on top the unit. Very easy to install to the wall. Very easy to set up or to program. I bought the Cuisinart 6 quart electric pressure cooker after reading many reviews and researching different options (stove top vs electric). I was a little wary about getting a pressure cooker because I had never used one, and the there are stories of pressure cookers exploding from the first generation of pressure cookers in the 1940's. Everything that I have read says that all of todays cookers are much safer, but because I tend to be very cautious I went with the electric model because of the added safety features. The lid locks into place and will not open until the pressure has been properly released. I was given the book: The Pressure Cooker Cookbook by Toula Patsalis as a gift. I used this book as one of my main guides in choosing a cooker. There is a whole chapter devoted to picking out a pressure cooker, and the recipes are top notch. I would highly recommend this book to anyone buying a pressure cooker.

This model had great reviews and was a good price on Amazon, so I decided to give it a try, and boy am I glad that I did! This very easy to work, a snap to clean up, and the food! All of the foods that I have made in this have turned out excellent. I love the browning and saute functions, it allows me to have just one pot to clean at the end. The non-stick coating cleans up easily. I also like the timer function, I can set my desired pressure level, set the time and I am ready. Once it reaches my desired level of pressure it starts to count down, when it is finished, it beeps to alert me and then automatically sets itself to keep warm. It couldn't be easier. Food really does take 50 70% less time to make in a pressure cooker. I have been making amazing homemade soups in about 30 minutes. My family loves this cooker as much as I do! The only drawback to this cooker is that it only has two levels of pressure to choose from: low or high. Many recipes that I have tried call to maintain medium pressure. I have made many recipes, and have just been using the high pressure level and everything has turned out wonderfully, it would just be nice to have the option of cooking at a medium pressure level.

Overall I think this is a great product. It is easy to use, easy to clean up and the ability to make amazing homemade soups and other meals in a fraction of the time it used to take is icing on the cake.

When I purchased my pressure cooker, I was quite the "novice". Like others, I had seen my grandmother use one when I was a child. . . but my mother was always very afraid of pressure cookers and warned me that I would "die" if I ever used one. Friends of my parents had one and cooked chili in it once, and it "exploded" and chili was everywhere. So I just never bothered. Then I came across this one.

A couple of things I didn't know and learned after I received the item. First, you can only fill it from 50 60% full, depending upon what you're making. So if you're going to use the pressure cooker then though it says that it's a 6-quart, you can really only cook 3 4 quarts.

But here's the really great thing that I learned, and I don't see this in the book or anything. It's not only a pressure cooker. . . It's a Stock Pot or electric pot. . . whatever you want to call it. I've made chicken stock in it, and filled it just about to the top with great results. I've made other soups, which don't need to really use the "pressure cooker" and they have turned-out great. Due to the fact that you can sear meat in it, that's wonderful. . .You can saute. . . you can simmer. . . With three different temperature settings, you can really cook lots of things inside. I made hot & sour soup today, which was fantastic! (no pressure cooking needed) I also like that it's non-stick, and you can easily remove the insert.

I've also made chili, which turned-out really well. I cooked a whole chicken, and that also was great. I purchased a pressure cooker cookbook, just to get some more ideas.

There certainly are "better" / "easier" ways to cook things other than using a pressure cooker, all depending upon the item. For example, I still prefer to use a steamer for veggies. But I think I'm going to get a lot more use out of this than I originally expected,

Let me start by saying I was ready to return it ( Costco), but i finally figured it out!!!!I was ready to quit and spent over 3 hrs on a recipe. I did not want to give up and had a perfect quinoa earlier.

1. make sure the metal plate with the seal on the lid is on the correct way. The metal pin has to be on the opposite side of the pressure valve in line with it. there is a small picture in the manual.

2. Make sure you have enough liquid. I had problems only when trying Mediterranean brisket ( steam escaped through red valve) and trying to cook rolled oats. Rolled oats did not build any pressure because by the time water boiled there was no water only oats.

If you are having troubles with it test it with water. Fill it to 4 cup line, set it for 1 minute or more and see if the pressure builds.

I tried everything cleaned the gaskets, etc. Tried powering it down and then up, but nothing worked. This one is going back and being replaced with a simple cook top model.

This dehydrator rocks. I use it to make raw foods such as crackers & crusts and to dry sprouted seeds and nuts. It has worked well for my needs, feeding 2 people. The 4-tray unit may be too small for a family doing a lot of dehydrating. This unit doesn't have a timer. That's no problem, though. I just plug it into a grounded heavy-duty appliance timer. For the raw foodist, I recommend the Excalibur's square shaped drying surface design over the the round shaped dehydrators. I haven't purchased the rather pricey ParaFlexx sheets, but they would be handy for dehydrating things like spreads, yogurt, runny things, & thin crackers. The 4-tray unit dimensions are 16 1/2"L X 13"W X 6"H (Sorry, I'm metric illiterate). All dehydrator fans are going to make noise. I do not consider the 4-tray unit to be loud.

I left a review for this product back in March but somehow it was moved to another listing. I'll attempt leaving the review again with the hopes of saving another unsuspecting buyer from wasting his/her money:

I don't have a lot of space and thought that this 4 tray dehydrator would be the perfect solution. This thing is JUNK!!! The temperature control is completely inaccurate. On top of that, it only worked about 10 times before the heat failed completely. I tried the reset instructions to no avail. I then called the company and they made some excuse about the "rare" need for fuse replacement. The rep convinced me that it was a fluke and that the machine would most likely never need another fuse. I wanted to protect my investment so decided to chance it. It cost about $20 for the fuse/shipping. Installation instructions were fairly straight forward though it took some hassle to get everything back in place. I used the machine about 8-10 more times before it died again. What a complete waste of money--I wish I had never purchased this product. I called the company and they offered (at full charge) to send me another fuse or I could send the product to them for repair. The cost to ship there and back plus the outrageous repair fee would equal close to what I paid for the thing in the first place. When you look inside, this thing is built like one of those light-bulb-on-a-battery things you throw together as a kid. That would be a bonus if the parts and repair were priced in accordance. This company knows how to make lots of money. I wish they had the same ambition when it came to making a decent product. I'm going back to the $30 model at my local store. Those round tray versions get a lot of bad mouthing by this company. Maybe that's because they actually LAST and they also cost (for the entire unit) only slightly more than the puny fuse in the Excalibur. Don't fall for the marketing hype like I did. This company does not stand by its product.

If you do a Google search, which I should have done up front, you will see that the temperature control on these units is awful.

I have to crank mine up all the way to 145F to get the internal temp up to 100F (not even warm enough to dry without spoiling.)

Older Excaliber units were very good. As is the case with so many companies today, manufacturing has gone down hill. Fewer and fewer new purchasers are pleased with this product. I wish I had kept my shipping material. Lesson learned.

Been using this for a few months so far, and couldn't be happier. I love beef jerky as an everyday snack, but it can get expensive buying it at the store all the time. A coworker is big on do it yourself foods and told me how to make jerky at home and decided to give it a try. At first I was doing it in the oven, which worked decently, but he kept telling me about his Excalibur and how great it was. So I decided to throw down the money, and very happy I did.

He had the 9 try version and that just seemed like way too much, which it would have been. I found this 4 tray and the price was pretty good at $100. I can do about 2 1/2 pounds at a time which is perfect. The Excalibur is so straight forward and easy to use. Theres no On/Off switch, so just plug it in and it turns on. The temperature dial even shows the type of foods you should be using at each temperature. (ex 155:meat, fish, 125:vegetables) This is good if you are not sure what to use. There is no timer, which is ok for me. I'll only do a batch on my days off anyways. Jerky takes around 6 hours, sometimes a little more.

I will admit the dehydrator does feel like cheap plastic, but you dont need something thats made out of heavy duty metal to dehydrate. It is pretty light for its size. Theres not much to it besides the case, the fan inside and the trays. Each tray has a removable and flexible mesh that is easy to clean. The fan is a nice feature as some other brands do not have one. This allows for the heat to be blown across the trays evenly. Although I have noticed that the lower tray seems to dry slower then the other 3. But for that I just recommend rotating the trays about half way through. You can rotate more then once if you really want to, but I dont think you need to. Rotating once did the trick for me.

You can do many types of food in a dehydrator, but I just use it to make beef jerky. I love being able to experiment with my own recipes and make it just the way I want. My friend gave me a recipe at first, and it was good, but I've been able to perfect it for me. After making a couple of batches and eating my own recipe I decided to try a bag of my favorite brand from the store, and Wow what a difference. I dont even like the taste of that brand anymore. I can never go back after making my own.

I highly recommend buying an Excalibur. Depending on your needs, the 4 tray was perfect for me. Dont let the fact that its made out of plastic fool you. It is high quality and I love using it.

So , now i see all the bad reviews i purchased one of these 8 months ago, had no issues, then went ahead and bought another -and had the same results as the people writing bad reviews.

Since i had one that worked (and 3 that didn't amazon made a special case and let me return one 'one more time') I was actually able to isolate the exact problem it's the USNAP module

I tried various combinations of my two thermostats, the modules, and location (Upstairs/Downstairs), and through the scientific method was able to determine the exact problem:

if your USNAP module says model "RTMV-01" -5 Stars, you are good to go, able to program schedules via your iPhone, and all the other internet goodness this was designed for.

If your USNAP module says "RTWG-01" -0 Stars -quickly return this to Amazon, as it will not work. This will save you hours of resets, soft resets, secret modes, switching module sides, testing power with a voltmeter, crying softly, etc etc

First off, I bought mine at HomeDepot right when it came out end of last year for $99. I admit the steps to setup can be somewhat technical at times for most folks, like connecting to it via adhoc network (some might ask what the h** is 'adhoc network'), scanning for your wifi, enter code displayed on thermostat, etc. However, I must say that once done following the wizard screen on your browser, it works like a charm.

Here are some counter points on other reviewers' feedback:

yes, the top and bottom tabs are plastic. top is to cover the wires and bottom to cover the batteries. like all things, if you read the instructions carefully, and handle the tabs like they are supposed to be handled, they should not break easily and they did not for me.

yes, this thermostat is screwed in to the wall, unlike some other thermostat where you have a screwed in wall plate, and then you 'pop' in the thermostat. i have one of those pop-in type at home, and the only reason they are pop-in type is because the batteries are at the back, hence you need to pop the unit out to replace batteries. for this thermostat, since the batteries are in the front covered by an easily removable tab, you don't need to take the unit off the wall to replace batteries. So having the thermostat screwed into the wall is not an issue for its design.

i have 3 of their apps installed (iPhone/iPod touch, iPad, and Android), and they all work perfectly for me. The Android app is probably the least stable of them all, but functionally it still works. The website also works perfectly for me as well. BTW, you can provide your email on your website such that you can be alerted if your thermostat have not reported status to radiothermostat.com in 24 hours due to network issue. This just happened to me 2 weeks ago and it's great to be alerted. (turns out my DSL modem has died).

wifi, once connected, never drops for me at all. the only reason i can think of for others with wifi dropping could be the distance between the thermostat and the router. i can't comment on the antena design of the router since mine is about 50ft from my wireless router, but if you experience wifi dropping issue you might want to buy a wifi extender or stronger wireless router. i have seen before where the use of microwave can impact wifi connectivity momentarily as they are on the same frequency (2.4 Ghz).

the *biggest* hassle for me during setup is to connect the 'C' (power) line to the thermostat since that wire was not run from my furnace originally. since this thermostat is wifi and the wireless is constantly on, it uses more power than the batteries can provide. the batteries are there only for backup. if your furnace doesn't have a 'C' line to power the thermostat I believe others have bought a separate transformer to power the thermostat separately.

at $99 from HomeDepot and cheaper here on Amazon, you can't beat the price and convenience.

for exactly what I needed this thermostat to do (monitor temperature and remotely set the thermostat before I arrive), this thermostat is ready for primetime IMO, and does what it is designed to do.

The added benefit of a free service from radiothermostat.com to operate your thermostat using a web UI and not fuzz with all the router firewall and port forwarding is a BIG plus. I know because I have 3 other networked devices at home where I need to configure the firewall on my router and all the port forwarding manually, and that's not something I would recommend to non-technical folks to take on themselves. They just recently upgraded their firmware to open up the APIs so that developers can create custom apps to control this thermostat. I am hoping to see more apps developed for consumers.

Here are some cons I remember:

I remember when I first set this up and picked WEP security, somehow it would not work right for WEP, and I had to pick WPA or WPA2. I think the recent firmware upgrade may have resolved this.

There's a 'away' mode on the mobile apps to set the unit when you are not home. However, there's no such a 1-touch icon on the physical thermostat UI itself. Some folks including myself wish they would also put an 'Away' icon on the UI of physical thermostat itself.

Recently I had to install a new wifi router because my old one died (hence the courtesy alert email was sent from radiothermostat.com to let me know they have lost communication with my thermostat for more than 24 hrs). One thing I noticed is that once the thermostat lost connectivity to the router, it starts up its adhoc wifi mode again so that 1) you can see it in the list of available wifi sids on your computer as "thermostat-xxxx-xxx", and 2) you can then select to connect to it so you can configure it again. This is exactly what I did, point my browser to it, follow the wizard UI, and within 2 mins, my thermostat is connected to my new router without any issues. Once the thermostat is connected to a wifi router, it no longer broadcast itself as an adhoc sid, and you can connect directly to it by its assigned IP address from the router. BTW, the thermostat displays the last octet value of its IP on the top right corner of its LCD screen. Say its assigned IP address is 192.168.1.207, then it will display "207" in its LCD so you know. BTW, once my thermostat regain connectivity with new router, I received an email shortly from radiothermostat.com that my thermostat is back online again. What great free service.

* Looks like radiothermostat.com is now run by EnergyHub.com. The UI and software look slightly different, but overall functionality is still the same.

* My Android app also just got updated with EnergyHub's UI and flow.

* Definitely works with WEP now with the recent (late 2011 Summer) firmware update.

* Geeky comment: If you leave your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone next to your bed, then you practically have a thermostat remote control. I have found myself, at some colder nights, reached over to my Android phone, popped open the radiothermostat app, and raise the temperature slightly...what convenience...

* Just installed a 3rd one yesterday (bought here at Amazon this time) and went smooth as silk.

* I have noticed the price of this is device is starting to climb quite a bit. Was $99 at Home Depot before, now it is $169. I wonder if it has anything to do with LockState taking over the brand (trying to lock in the market and recoup acquisition cost?). Previously it was Filtrete Radio Thermostat, on Amazon it is now Homewerks, and on HomeDepot is LockState.

* So far all 3 installed Radio Thermostats are working flawlessly.

* I can testify that EnergyHub would send you an email if your thermostat loses communication to them which relays the communication to your mobile devices and browsers. I disconnected broadband for the last few months while my house was under remodeling, and I received a 'Your wireless thermostat is offline' email notification weekly just to let me know. This is a good free service for owners of this device.

I can see where others may have problems, but the unit works great for me. I had a friend familiar with HVAC systems help me install it on my apartment's two-stage heat pump system. Luckily, I had a "C" wire for power already run (it was actually labeled "Z" on the old thermostat). For the record, I have the version of this product sold at Home Depot (it's simply branded 3M Filtrete; same exact underlying product).

I would say if you can ensure you have the "C" wire in place or installed for you (should be cheap) and have a modern wireless router using modern encryption (WPA or WPA2), the unit should work great. As with *any* WiFi device, you can have signal problems related to distance, interference, etc... but I have had absolutely none. The thermostat runs on the 2.4GHz wireless band, so if you have a dual-band wireless router, ensure you are either using the 2.4GHz band or 2.4GHz+5.2Ghz (if your router supports simultaneous dual-band). If you're using 5GHz exclusively, the thermostat can't connect, as I learned quickly. I'm using this router: Cisco-Linksys E4200 Maximum Performance Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router with both 2.4GHz and 5.2GHz bands enabled.

Software: I'm running the 'Thermostat for Windows' program as well as the Android app. The $10 for the 'premium' version of the Windows software was worth it for me to get the "server" features, and of course the Android app is free. I've used the website interface a couple times as well; it's decent. They release application updates frequently and keep a good change log, so I'm pleased with the level of support for the software.

Misc: I love the fan circulation feature which turns the furnace fan on at an interval you set to keep air circulated, even if heating/cooling isn't active. Previously, I left the fan running all the time because my apartment gets stuffy, which I felt wasted energy. Apparently this feature isn't built into the thermostat; the 'Thermostat for Windows' software sends the thermostat commands to turn on/off the fan based on your desired interval.

Bottom line: it works great, my friends think I'm a nerd for having it, and I love it.

**EDIT: I had actually purchased the $320 EcoBee sold here on Amazon. I ended up returning it because it was ten times more complicated to install (had a thermostat and a separate control module you had to mount and wire into the furnace itself). The Radio Thermostat is $200 cheaper and was installed by a novice in under an hour... just something to consider.

I picked my unit up under the 3M/Filtrete brand, but it's the same unit by Radio Thermostat of America. Without the wifi, the set up was easy enough, no different than most units, I didn't even have to read the instructions for most of it.

The wifi however, that's another story. It works, yes. But it was so fussy to set up. The app on the iphone kept hanging up, it seemed not to be working, restart the process. Eventually it got on the network and was able to connect. Since then it's been 99%. From anywhere I have internet access, I can see the temp in the house, and control the HVAC, it's nice. The app is free, and works, but all you get is live info, no historical, no programming, but it suits most. The computer app that you can also install also works, but you can't change anything, only monitor. From the RTOA website you can do a bit more like set up the 7 day program, easier than on the thermostat it self, too bad the local computer can't do it quite so directly. All of this depends on the internet being available, the connection the computer, thermostat and iphone all make is to RTOA's servers, not direct to each other. So if you're internet is out, even on the same network I don't believe it works (but then the remote control issue is fixed by walking to the thermostat).

Over all, for the money, it does the job. It's a relatively small premium over other 7 day programmable thermostats to get the wifi/internet control of the thermostat. What would be a nice bonus would be email alerts if the temp drops below or goes above certain values, and programming from the iphone would be a nice bonus too.

I have now had 2 of these units for around a year. The iPhone app for this product is TERRIBLE, although it is better now than it was to start with. My main issues with it are (1) every time the app updates it forgets the logon account name and password; (2) TO USE THE iPHONE APP TO CONTROL ONE'S THERMOSTATS ONE MUST HAVE ACCESS TO FILTRETE'S WEBSITE. In the event of an internet outage, the phone cannot be used to control the 'stats. This is nothing short of ludicrous. I downgraded my rating to 1 star, would never buy this item again.

I live in a 2 storey home, and bought 2 of these thermostats to replace some elderly Honeywell units (one of which was failing). I was attracted by the ability to manage these thermostats over WiFi.

Installation went well, the hardware instructions are easy to follow, and idiot proof. When it came to connecting them to the wireless network, however, things did not go so well. 3M (the manufacturer) does not provide any printed documentation for WiFi setup, beyond a slip of paper inserted into the box that tells one to use their iPhone app. This is all very well provided one has an iPhone! I do have an iPhone, so was not adversely impacted. [note: it's possible to configure the 'stat without an iPhone, but one needs to be rather tech savvy. Or, one can operate the thing manually but why get the WiFi capability if that's the case?] The iPhone app works well, by the way. (**see update above**)

I followed the installation instructions to the letter, including turning off the power before I made the electrical connections. The upstairs thermostat was a breeze, and immediately connected to my wireless LAN. The downstairs thermostat was another matter. It refused to connect to the network, no matter what I did. I checked signal levels, moved the wireless router to within 4 feet of the 'stat, checked the batteries, checked the supply voltage delivered to the 'stat. I wasted several hours exhausting all possibilities. Next, it was time to contact 3M's customer support. I sent them an email detailing the problem. They ignored me for 2 days. I resent the email twice, and a couple of days later came their pronouncement... "You didn't connect the 'C' wire". I replied, pointing out that I had explicitly stated that I not only had a 'C' wire, but it was connected and delivering power correctly. Since then (5 days ago) I have heard nothing more from 3M tech support. Not surprising, since they apparently don't read their emails.

By this time I was very frustrated. I put in a return merchandise request with Amazon.com

AMAZON SENT ME A REPLACEMENT UNIT THE SAME DAY, AND GAVE ME A PREPAID RETURN LABEL. AMAZON'S CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS EXEMPLARY.

The replacement 'stat arrived today. I installed it, and it works perfectly. Thank you Amazon.com, and a big raspberry to 3M customer support.

After I read the reviews, I ordered this one & Mr. Coffee's to try both. Both are very good warmers but with cons & pros...

This one comes with a larger surface than mr. coffee's which allows the use of bigger cups, however, the cord is much shorter than mr. coffee's & that's where it loses a star..

The switch coming on the cord could be a little awkward depending on where you place it, but it's ok with me. Both warmers are very good & would mostly keep your hot beverage warm for as long as it's on -depending on the amount of liquid in your cup. Of course, the warmer would not heat a cold drink for you so you should start with a hot/warm beverage so the warmer would only keep it from getting cold or even heat it up for ya when the liquid level is too low! ;)

Bottom line; I simply love it & it currently resides in my work office for my morning coffee/tea.. I ordered 3 more for my colleagues & they like it too =)

Our office is always chilly so our hot drinks seem to cool rather quickly. I purchased these for our desks & they are wonderful. They keep the drink just warm enough--even when you are near the bottom of the cup. Nor does the handle of the cup get hot. The on/off switch eases our supervisors mind, too. As long as you understand what this product is used for, you will love it! It is just what it says it is: a foot warmer, not a full mattress pad. The measurements are missing from the item description, which is bad marketing. The Twin/Full sized pad measures about 24x34 inches and it sits on top of your mattress pad and under the top sheet. Even though it doesn't have straps that wrap around the corners of the mattress, it doesn't move around at all. It also has nice long cords for the plug in and the controller. The controller has three settings and each setting has a different color so you can tell what the setting is without having to read the printing (very handy at night). My problem is that I can't sleep if my feet are cold and I don't like wearing socks to bed, but I don't need a full electric mattress pad or blanket. This foot warmer keeps my feet warm and I fall asleep faster. It is just what I needed.

The idea of having an electric foot warmer is wonderful and just what I need. However, the design of this product makes it almost unusable for me.

First, even on the lowest heat setting, the warmer gets so hot by the middle of the night that it is unbearable and has to be turned off. It seems not to be thermostatic. It has only 3 heat settings, not a continuously variable dial for adjusting heat.

It has no automatic shutoff.

The control to change the temperature and turn the unit off has blindingly bright lights that make my whole bedroom bright. Pushing the button successively (there is no dial) to make the unit turn off or change heat setting is VERY noisy, waking up my spouse. The control also doesn't have a flat bottom, so it won't rest in a reasonable position on the side table. The bottom is rounded for some unknown reason. No sensible person would put something like that under their pillow, so I'm not sure where the manufacturer thinks you are going to put it.

Finally, the place where the cord plugs into the warmer itself is a HUGE lump that is right in the middle of the warmer, exactly where my feet constantly hit it. Why would it have been hard to put it off the edge of the bed or off to the side of the warmer?

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any competing product.

I bought this last year and it has worked great, although I use this as a heated pet bed and not as a foot warmer. When placed under my dog's normal bed (which is about 2-3 inches thick), it provides a very soft and subtle heat that he seems to like. He is a very large dog (~85 lbs) so to buy an actual heated pad for him would have been close to $100. The only problem is the cat now sleeps in the middle of my dog's warm and cozy bed, and my dog is too polite to do anything about it so I might need to get another one. :)

I love this product. I bought the twin size (because it was cheaper), even though I have a california king size bed. (I'm the only one in the bed.) I was used to sleeping with a heating pad or two. I agree that the description is lacking and it is a flat pad that goes under the sheets, but it works great for me, and I think that the twin size might work for 2 people. The only other thing that I would mention as a negative would be the place where the cord plugs into the pad creates a bump which might bother some people.

Update 1/2/13. The picture has been updated and now does show the correct product. I am still using my foot cuddler. It is not as warm as it once was, but it provides enough heat to keep my feet warm. I have found that any of these type of heaing products will wear out, (especially if you use them as much as I do) so I expect that I will have to buy another one soon. They never last as long as the warranty (heating pads and electric blankets). so I will have to start keeping track of the receipts, etc. (I sleep much better in the winter with the extra warmth, so I would purchase again without the warranty.) The price has gone up since I purchased my first one in December 2009. Hopefully the price will be lower in the spring.

Purchased two foot cuddlers to add a little warmth in the foot area of our beds. So far, results are so-so. We pre-heat the bed on high, then turn the controller on low or sometimes medium, which we find to be more than comfortable. There are three heat settings and no auto-shut off. This is a rectangular pad with rounded corners, which is 45 X 24" in the twin/full size. It just lies on top of the bed. We put ours under the mattress pad and sheet. The heating wires do not extend right to the edge; instead they stop about 2-3 inches, all around, from the edge. I'm not sure how you would use this on a twin bed, as the instructions state to NOT bend the pad/wires and a twin bed is only 39" wide. It would work well for a full-sized bed. We use one on a queen-sized, as the queen version was unavailable. The one other problem we have had is that one of the pads was heating very unevenly. Almost nothing on one side, much more on the other. For that reason and the fact that it doesn't really fit a twin-sized bed, we returned it. We have kept the one we use on the queen-sized bed, will update on reliability, if needed, in the future. At this point, would probably purchase again.

This fan works great to heat up a room but it does have its draw backs. The multiple temp settings and high/low fan setting are a plus. One of the things that I was looking for in a heater was oscillation and this one has it, but the problem is that it doesn't shutoff when the fan shuts off. It just keeps on oscillating! You have to manually switch it on/off. It is also a little on the noisy side and makes a slight popping sound as it turns from side to side. Safety feature-wise, it does shut off immediately if tipped over but does not shut off if covered. There is a warning on the box that items can burst into flames if placed on or too close to the heater.

This is the perfect touch for a small room (approx. 14 x16). Just turn it on medium-high, oscillating for 1-2 hours. Room is very comfortable for sleeping. Highly recommend for additional use to keep heating costs down.
