I'm an amateur carpenter and tinkerer of all things flashy and shiny. I built a cabinet style TV stand / AV hutch for my flat screen and entertainment components. The front of the unit has doors which stay closed most of the time, so I needed a way of keeping all my toys inside cool. An AV receiver can get hot pretty quick if no ventilation is available. I've heard the latest gaming consoles will put off a good bit of heat as well, and one of those will be in the unit soon too. Given my need for a breeze, I installed two small PC-style quiet cooling fans (12V, 200mv each), wired in parallel and venting out the back panel (airflow enters around the doors). I then wired this temperature switch between them and a 12v wall wart rated for 400mv. Once the temp gets a little too high in the cabinet, the fans kick on and cool things down within a matter of minutes. The temp does have to get a little hotter than I would like to kick on, usually around 95 or so, but the next temp scale on the 80 degree switch had a low end of 65 degrees. My house temp runs around 70 degrees, so that switch would have caused the fans to run all the time.

Granted there are other options for my application. I wouldn't feel right describing it above for others without mentioning the fact that you could go with a ready made product like the "Coolerguys Cabcool1202". That is an all-in-one cabinet cooler with the power converter, dual fan setup, and thermostat all built it. It runs around $70 and has a slightly lower temp scale, more suitable for cabinet electronics. I like to tinker, and didn't want to spend that much money though. This little switch suites my needs, and my whole setup only cost about $35 to construct.

Note that you will probably need to construct some sort of bracket to securely fasten this switch for oddball applications like mine. I made a simple one out of a piece of wood, two small bolts and a few nuts. Also check out the power range of this thing. I'm only running it at 12V and 400ma. However, it will carry up to 250V @ 25amps!

5 stars because it works, not sure how else I would rate it. I did not deduct given my need for a mounting bracket as that was an application specific issue, not a product issue. Also, I have not tested the actual open/close temps with a separate thermometer yet, but these types of switches are usually pretty reliable within their specified ranges.

I used this on a heater in a retirement home room. The heater is cycled hot water with a constant running fan. The unit is under an outside window. When the hot water stops then you get cold air. I put this switch on the heating element and in series with the fan motor. Now all you get is heat and no cold air. Makes the room a lot more comfortable because of the even tempature.

I always buy through Amazon if I can because of good parts with good prices and no rip offs in shipping costs.

I fabricated my own RV refrigerator vent fans and installed this on the flame tube as shown on another site. I used a 1/2 inch aluminium wire tie down and formed it to the shape I needed, then attached this with nuts and screws. Be careful not to over tighten. After starting the fridge and the sensor warmed up the fans kicked on and all works fine.

First, I was a pressure cooker nut from before. I used my mother's 1930/40's Presto's until I couldn't get seals for them. When I saw this digital pressure cooker I bought it instantly. I loved it so much that I gave one to my daughter, my sis and my sis-in-law, (we're all foodies). I was cooking stuff I hadn't made in years. We ate like kings! All of a sudden, caput. I get online and search and right there on Amazon, Bobby Mac "Micronaut101" describes my very own problem! So no more trying to make the bloody thing work! I call the Cuisinart 800 number prepared to go the distance according to the reviews I've read and I describe my problem, how much I love the machine, how I've seen the problem reported on Amazon and therefore it's a known quality issue and I want a new machine. OK, she says, what's your address? No "did you send in a warranty" or anything else. Bingo, 7 10 days I'll have a new pressure cooker. How cool is that? Oh, and "We're sorry for the inconvenience. Little red button wouldn't come up to close opening. I would wiggle the button with a skewer or knife point to get it to pop up to close pressure hole. Hope this helps.]]

And I'm writing this so that others who may get one of those recalcitrant pressure cookers that slipped through the quality assurance check can know that they will get a new pressure cooker with the press of the number buttons. Cuisinart has decided to stand behind this one product, at least.

BTW, all of us are previous users of pressure cookers so we really appreciated the ability to sear the meat in the cooker. My family has used the Cuisinart cookbook for the pasta e Fagioli, Cuban Black Bean Soup, Chicken with Herb Dumplings and the "outstanding" Creamy Rice Pudding" And, in fact, the Rice pudding cooked so quickly that my sis didn't think it was done when the timer went off and over cooked it! Her second batch was superb. We also like Lorna Sass's "Cooking Under Pressure" and "Pressure Perfect"

I've never used a pressure cooker before, and I was so excited to get my Cuisinart CPC-600 pressure cooker! At first it worked just great and I was delighted to turn out wonderful stews in 20 minutes and even meatloaf in 25 minutes. But after about a week it stopped coming up to pressure and steam poured out of the red float valve. After reading another reviewer's comments, I started tapping on the red float through the plastic cover and jarred it loose; at that point it would rise and seal the unit so it would come up to pressure. Kind of a pain that I have to do that each time.

Except for that detail, it has worked very well.

Another reviewer asked what PSI the unit works at. Very odd that they do not include this info in their user manual or web site since you need the info to adjust cooking times when using other pressure cookers' recipes, but I emailed their tech support to ask and received this answer:

I got my Cuisinart EPC-1200PC about 2 weeks ago. Living in a house all by myself it was always easy to stop on the way home and get fast food. I have missed "family meals" and "momma's cooking" since I moved out 15 years ago. I get over to my parents house to eat maybe 3-5 times a month. One night my mom showed me a similar EPC that she had bought and invited me over to eat a meal that she cooked in it. I was sold when I saw the ease and usefulness. After tasting how flavorful the food was I had to get me one. I did my research and decided not to go with the same model as her but instead this Cuisinart model.

My first attempt with this unit was a whole chicken. I skinned the chicken, quartered it and put it in the pot with just enough water to cover the meat. Set it on high for 10 minutes. It took the unit about 10-15 minutes to build up pressure so that the red stopper sealed and then it began the actual "pressure cooking". My first thoughts were "No way is this thing cooking, I don't hear the jiggle associated with pressure cookers" and then the 10 minutes were over and the manual says on chicken to release the pressure using the quick release method. I'll admit I was a bit worried about this part. The horrors of my childhood when my dad blew the top off of our pressure cooker making a whole chicken flash back in my mind. I threw a paper towel folded twice over the valve and with a pair of tongs turn the valve to the quick release setting. No worries here. Steam escaped rather easily and the paper towel did its job. After the pressure was released the units lid unlocks and you twist it to open. I remove the chicken to find it cooked perfectly, moist, tender and juicy. To boot I get 7 cups of stock out of it for a chicken soup I made the next night.

I have used this thing darn near daily since getting it. Sure it may take 10-15 minutes to build up pressure depending on how much liquid you put in the pot, but I cooked a Chicken and rice dish last night that took 3 minutes on high. We are talking about a frozen chicken breast and uncooked basmati rice here people. In 3 minutes. It took the unit about 10 minutes to pressurize for that dish and I let the dish naturally release pressure for 7 minutes afterward before quick releasing the remaining pressure. So in total it took about 20 minutes from start to finish. But its a one pot cleanup and I dare you to cook rice in 20 minutes on a stove top and compare it to the deliciousness that I created in this EPC. I see myself using this unit for many years to come and have not eaten out in almost a month now thanks to this little jewel. I save money by eating at home. I save calories by eating at home.

I consider myself a decent cook for a bachelor. I think this unit can only add to that as I will be able to try many more dishes in the future. The best feature about the Cuisinart is that you do not have to stand there constantly tending to it as you do a normal stove top unit. There are almost zero concerns about the dreaded explosion. I am still careful when I use the unit but I am not scared of it as I am my old stove top unit. I hated that dang thing. Do yourself a favor and get this unit.

Admittedly, there's a learning curve with pressure cookers, and I had not used one before. But this one came with at least one part (hello, "condensation collector") whose packaging--a scrap of bubble wrap--was completely unlabeled (I nearly threw it away with the rest of the packing material). It was also misrepresented in the microscopic, inadequate product illustrations. (In the years since I purchased this pressure cooker, the condensation collector has broken, though I've continued to use the CPC-600 without it--no problem.)

But the operating instructions that I received were unclear, badly organized, and insufficient in too many other ways to enumerate here. (I say this as a technical writer/editor with more than thirty years' professional experience.) For example, I wasn't sure that the "float" in the handle worked--what was it supposed to look like after "rising completely"?--and everything I cooked at first came out caramelized (though I have to admit that this unplanned effect didn't hurt the flavor, but that's my taste). I didn't know whether this contraption was malfunctioning or whether I wasn't using it correctly--maybe some combination of both--and other reviews posted here suggested that the number provided for customer service would not lead to anything but more frustration.

In short, I thought this was a handsome and potentially useful appliance, and I wanted to get it working properly. And, finally, I did figure out how to work it. There was one very simple but crucial piece of information that was not clear in the instruction manual. Here's what you need to know: when you place the pressure release valve on the lid, be sure that the little projecting arm on the valve is precisely parallel to the lid's handle. If you do that, the cooker will get up to pressure, and the digital display clock will count down, just as it's supposed to do. That's it. Enjoy!

The Cuisinart 6 Quart pressure cooker, truly is a Kitchen Magician!

I have not stopped playing with this thing, since I pulled it out of the box. For a 21st century family-man, the chef in the family, discovering this electric pressure cooker is like rediscovering a whole new way to make potatoes, to steam rice, to cook dried beans from the pantry, to make chorizo paella, chicken noodle soup, marinara, the list goes on and on...And almost everything, in 30 minutes or less! Amazing.

Pros:

1) Click and go functionality. Saute, Brown, Simmer, Low Pressure, high Pressure, and keep warm. Click your choice, then minutes, then start. Couldn't be easier.

2) Safety comes first: After reading the instructions, and becoming familiar with the appliance, I feel safe, knowing that it has like 7 safety features.

3) Versatility: I am not just pressure cooking potatoes in this thing...I am doing all one-pot wonders, starting with frying my onions and garlic, or browning my brussell sprouts, then boiling my water, then pressure cooking, then simmering in the noodles, etc. My stove and oven miss me so much. Poor things.

4) no-stick pot: This is the easiest pot to clean, and I have made probably 20 dishes in it so far. Cleanup is a breeze, holds up in the dishwasher.

5) Cuisinart is a name you can trust.

6) 6 quarts, perfect size. Don't go any smaller.

Cons:

1) Directions: Kind of lacking. The pics are a little old-school diagramish. I was left scratching my head on clean-up, for example, like um, how to you take the lid apart...Left figuring stuff out on my own. (see tips)

2) Recipes: Good, but I was wanting more. (see tips)

3) No accessories: No keep-warm lid, no steam pot, no inserts. Checked the cuisinart website, and no accessories sold there either.

4) Maximum fill line: The pot doesn't have one, and I wish it did. It has measurements, but with pressure cooking, you're supposed to not go farther than like 60%. A line would be nice.

5) Pot would not come to pressure a couple times, as previous reviews mentioned, would just turn to "keep warm"...BUT this was while already cooking in the pot (browning) at high temps with olive oil(for example, when I was browning paella in oily chorizo), and then attempting to immediately switch to pressure cook...so I am of the belief that this might be a safety function of the thermostat. The instructions manual talks about the thermostat disallowing the pot to go to pressure if the temp exceeds a safe temp, and I was essentially frying with minimal water, meaning, I think my pot got too hot to pressure cook the food I already had been cooking. Just a guess. Both dishes turned out perfect when this occurred, I simply cooked on brown to finish. Safety comes first. All other times, everything worked normal. Rice, beans, veggies, soups, no problemo.

TIPS:

1) Cleaning the lid: Take lid off, pull the little knob thing underneath, the lower plate comes right off, and you can clean the upper and lower lid with a clean cloth. The silicon seal comes right off also, and can be cleaned as well. Scary to do first time, because the manual is not terribly clear. After that, all fear is gone, and please, DO clean your lid.

2) Cookbooks: Do yourself a favor, and buy a couple companion cookbooks. I highly recommend Lorna Sass, "Cooking Under Pressure", and more specifically, I enjoy her book entitled "Great Vegetarian Cooking Under Pressure." She is the pressure cooker goddess, yiou can not go wrong with her. You'll learn lots of new ways to look at how to prepare your recipes with the pressure cooker, and you can see some of her at work on youtube, she has a blog also. I also recommend the book "The Everything Vegetarian Pressure Cooker Cookbook". I have tried almost 10 recipes so far. Great! So, don't go at it alone. Buy a couple cookbooks.

3) Beans and grains: With white rice, honestly, I don't really think you need to add any oil. The manual suggests this as well. With beans, yeah. Add oil for sure. The pot gets pretty messy, so don't forget to clean the lid after. Now, I tried beans straight from dry, and I tried them after pre-soaking. Both turned out fine.

4) Veggies: delicate stuff, like veggies, really have a tendency to overcook. Try using the "low pressure" setting to help, and just pressure cook them for 1-3 minutes max, with quick release...Keep the super delicate veggies, like broccoli, for the steamer. Not everything must be cooked in your pressure cooker. The right tools for the right foods, etc. On the other hand, artichokes are amazing. 8-10 minutes, with some lemon, and you're golden.

On the plus side, the unit is attractive, keeps things quite cold, and is not very loud although I'm not sure I'd want it in my study. I have three problems with the unit. The first is that the packaging is terrible. Even though there was no evidence on the box of any trauma, the door of my unit was dislodged due to the upper hinge being displaced. It fortunately came back into line with a few taps using a light hammer. The cause of the dislocation is that the bottom of the shipping package lacks rigidity. In fact the whole thing lacks packing protection, being shielded by a miniscule amount of thin, low density styrofoam. It's been a long time since I saw a new product packaged this poorly. I consider myself lucky that the unit arrived in as good a shape as it did. Second, the exterior is painted with a matte black paint that is neither smooth nor easy to clean. Third, the front door sweats like crazy in a non air conditioned environment. The condensate then drips from the door onto the underlying surface. I have this in my garage. I've not yet figured out what I want to do with this item, but I'm not totally happy with my purchase.

My Soleus HM1-10-32 is used to supplement my oil heat since prices have gone up. I have no problem heating a 18' x 12' living room. I wanted the non-remote version because I've got too many remotes and dont need another one. To my surprise this regular model is now coming with ECO (economy mode).

The heating element consists of two 500W vertical heat panels:

1) LOW: In this mode only one heat panel turns on (the right panel).

2) High: In this mode both (right and left) heat panels turn on.

3)ECO: In this mode both 500W heat panels turn on until the room reaches a certain temp then the right heat panel turns off and the left one remains on until the thermostat takes over and cycles one 500W panel.

Noise: The 500W heat panels will warp at little as they warm-up. This warping makes a low clunk sound. Not loud enough to disturb you but noticable. Also the thermostat makes a click as it cycles.

Power: 1000W seems to be enough for me and doesnt cause heating of the line cord. At this power level the unit can share another device on the same line if need be. The 500W setting works well for most of my conditions. For instance I get home from work and the burner has kept the house at 63 degrees F. I turn-on the heater at 1000W until the living room wall thermostat reads 69 F then I turn the heater to low and let it cycle.

Heat: Since it has a back or rear to the element I tried it up against a wall. This heated the wall up real well. After moving it out in the open it seemed much more effective. The heater emits a LOT of heat out of the top and heats only about out to three feet from the front. I also heats out to 1.5 feet to the rear. Other than that its mostly Infra-red waves to the front and rear and ambient heat to the top.

Very handy carry handle on one side and attractive thin profile make this a real versatile low profile heater. With the Micathermic elements the heating elements are not exposed to the air so it is safe.

I really think this is the future in portable heating because it is the quietest heater I have used. Also with heat out of the top,infra red to the front and heat to the rear its very effective.

Well we had our first single digit night here in NY and it kept the bedroom at 68F by using 1000W and letting it cycle all night. Thats 68F with my door open and attic air leaking thru the attic stairs (in otherwords worst case) at 8 deg outside temp. Normally on an 8 deg night my bedroom is 59F.

I also knocked it completely over while walking around in the dark. The Power was off and it lived no problem. No damage works fine.

Another point is that no matter how close it is to objects in the bedroom they do not heat to a dangerous temp. They will get warm but not hot.

When sitting on the coach with it 3 feet away and facing you (maximum comfy) you only feel a mild radiant heat not a blast in the face. Try that with most radiant heaters and you'll get a tan.

Does a good job heating a 10" x 12' bedroom. It's totally silent, so it's perfect for the bedroom. It does heat up almost instantly, but at only 1000 watts, does not heat up the room very quickly. Best to turn it on an hour before you turn in, to give it time to heat up the room. I'm using it in a house that I set to 58 degrees overnight, with single digit temperatures outside. The bedroom stays in the upper 60's for the night while this is on. Update: It stopped working after a couple of months. Got a new one that's been working fine all winter. The one year warranty was good, but the return experience was poor. Had to call many times over many days to get an actual person. The return involved cutting the end of the power cord and mailing at my expense back to them (good to not have to pay to send the entire unit back). Plus, had to send them money to cover shipment of the replacement unit (I think it was $16). All in all, it cost me over 40% of the original cost to get warranty replacement. It seems that this is becoming a common practice these days, but not easy to find out until you call for repair. So consider this a heads up so you can factor this in to your purchasing decision.

I didn't intend to have to do this review because I didn't intend to purchase more than one of these fans. I can tell you now that all of these fans are super cheaply designed and built and none of these fans are perfect, but in my opinion, one is worse than the others.

Holmes HAWF2043 Twin Window Fan: my rating 3 of 5 stars

I first purchased the Holmes HAWF2043 unit. It was lightweight and fit the window nicely although I had trouble with the extender which is located on the right side. The locks for the extender are located on the right side along the top and bottom edge of the fan, which is supremely stupid because as soon as you place the fan in your window frame and put weight on it, the bottom lock locks and you can not move the extender. I mean, what rocket scientist thought of this? So you have to unlock the locks before you place the unit in the window AND keep weight off the bottom lock until you have the extender adjusted to where you want it. This is not easy. And the lock mechanisms can be difficult to move. At the time, I could not imagine anything worse, but I was wrong as I found out with the extenders on the Honeywell unit, which I will go into in the next paragraph. This Holmes unit has the best placement of the power cord which is in the lower left corner... the location is high enough as not to interfere with the bottom of the window frame. This unit has two speeds, high and low. The controls are easy to operate. In fact, there is only one button and two switches. The button cycles through the high and low manual speed settings and then though the automatic temperature presets which are at 60, 65, 70, 75 & 80 degrees fahrenheit. If you set it at one of the temperature presets, the unit will turn off once the room reaches that temperature. It seemed to work although I did not have the opportunity to see how accurate that function is. The two switches set the direction of the fans to either intake or exhaust which can be done on each fan independently, so you could have one fan on intake and the other on exhaust for quickly exchanging room air with fresh air. This unit has 8.5 inch fans and they are relatively quiet at both speeds, naturally high is louder than low, but don't expect silence. I own a Kill-A-Watt P3 energy meter and this unit used 46 watts on low and 63 watts on high. I would have been happy with this unit except that two days into using it, the right fan started working intermittently. Of course, that is unacceptable. Returning. I give this fan 3 out of 5 stars because I feel that if you get a good one you'll be happy with it, but don't expect anything great. FYI: Holmes is a division of Sunbeam.

Honeywell HW-628 Enviracaire Twin Window Fan: my rating 2 of 5 stars

So with the right fan not working correctly on the Homes, I ordered the Honeywell HW-628. As soon as I saw it, I knew I was not going to be happy with it. For one thing, the unit has 7 inch fans compared with 8.5 inch on the Holmes. So in order to move as much air, the fans would have to run much faster and the unit will be much louder. Time to install... I previously mentioned that the extenders on the Holmes were poorly designed, but the extenders on this were MUCH worse. First of all, this unit has two shorter extenders on both the right and left sides instead of one longer extender like the Holmes has. Second, the four extender locks are, get this, located on the BACK of the unit, the side facing out the window! How are you supposed to set those? It was impossible for me. I ended up jamming the extenders into the window frame in order to keep them extended. Okay, so I finally get the unit in the window and turned it on. I found out immediately that my thoughts about the smaller fans, higher fan speed and noise were true. This thing is LOUD. Super loud. And buzzy. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that it is downright unruly. There is no chance you would use this in a bedroom even on low speed. The controls were easy to use although not completely intuitive. There are three speeds available on each fan, low, high and super high. You have to set each fan separately, which I think is stupid. I cannot imagine a scenario where I would want one fan on high and another fan on low, etc. The temperature setting dial is also extremely stupid. There are no temperature markings. According to the manual, you are supposed to keep the unit on until the room reaches a temperature that you like and then turn the dial back until the unit cycles off. Seriously? Each fan has its own direction switch for either intake or exhaust. The power cord is located on the bottom center of the front of the unit and its mounted too low so that it interferes with the bottom of my window frame. Who is designing these things? The one feature it had which I liked was that the grilles were directional and could be rotated to direct air in a 360 degree arc. On the power consumption front, this unit used twice the power as the Holmes! 97 watts on low, 109 watts on high and 120 watts on super high. My unit was defective in that the switches for the right fan are wired incorrectly such that low is high and high is low, but super high is still super high... odd. Returning. Due to the noise level, I would not recommend this unit. I cannot understand how it has 4 of 5 stars and as of today, 262 reviews. Incomprehensible.

Bionaire BW2300 Twin Window Fan with Remote Control: my rating 4 of 5 stars

So after the poor experience with the Honeywell (They put their name on that piece of junk? They are a defense contractor!), I purchased the Bionaire BW2300 hoping for better luck. First thing I noticed was the similarity between this unit and the Holmes. That is because they are both made by the same company. Bionaire, like Holmes, is Sunbeam. It has the same right side extender locks as the Holmes, but after the experience with the unusable rear locks on the Honeywell, I was happy to see them! One unwelcome difference is that the power cord is located on the bottom center of the front like it is on the Honeywell, and its also too low like it is on the Honeywell. I mounted the unit in window fairly quickly and turned it on. Its got three speeds, low, medium and high. It uses 8.5 inch fans like the Holmes and it is relatively quiet, although I think it may be ever so slightly louder than the Holmes on high. The controls are all electronic and it has an electronic temperature readout and thermostat. It is very easy to use. Simply choose a fan speed and put the unit into intake, exhaust or one fan on intake and the other on exhaust (air exchange mode). You can use it either in manual mode where there is no temperature control or you can set a temperature for the unit to reach and then turn off (automatic mode). This is easy to do using the simple up and down buttons to the right of the large temperature readout or you can use the remote control. Once you set it, it will remember your settings if you turn it off as long as you don't unplug it. The remote control works well and it allows you to control all of the fan's features and functions remotely: on/off, fan speed, air direction, temperature and to toggle between automatic and manual mode. Finally, there is a button to change the brightness of the temperature readout, although you cannot completely turn it off. The power usage was similar to the Holmes. The Kill-A-Watt read 43 watts on low, 49 watts on medium and 64 watts on high. Unlike the most popular review for this unit, my temperature probe was located in its proper track and it seems to work well. I've been using it for three weeks now without issue and so this is the keeper. 4 of 5 stars for this. Its not perfect, but in my opinion, its the best of the three.

Just remember that with any window fan, one of the most important things is setting up a ventilation route.

In order for a window fan to be most effective, you have to have a second open window for either:

drawing in fresh air if you put the fan in exhaust mode.

or

exhausting room air if you put the fan in intake mode.

If you don't have a second open window for either mode, you'll either create a vacuum or pressure balloon, respectively and either way, you'll not be moving much air which is what a fan is all about in addition, you'll be overheating and likely killing the fan's motors. The second open window can be in another room or on another floor or it could be a screen door, but you need an unobstructed, open source of fresh air with the fan on exhaust or an equally open window for air to exhaust through if you put the fan on intake mode.

Of course, you could use the fan on exchange mode where one fan pushes air in and the other exhausts, but this is not ideal as my observation is that this mode is not nearly as efficient the other two.

Also remember that the outside temperature rules everything. In order for a fan to cool a room, in my experience, the outside temperature needs to be at least ten degrees cooler than the inside temp, or it needs to be falling, like it typically does at night. If the outside temperature is about the same as inside or warmer, then you'll not be cooled off by a fan. Humidity counts, too. High humidity = bad.

The window fan works well for me in the evenings/nights where the outside air temperature drops 10 or 15 degrees but the inside air temperature would stay high, even with all the windows wide open as often happens without any significant wind or breeze. With the fan on and with the windows and doors set up correctly, the upstairs bedrooms stay within three or four degrees of the outside temp for me without having to turn the air conditioning on in the spring and fall. I find intake mode most effective for me. And again, remember that the daily effectiveness of any window fan will depend a lot on the outside temperature and humidity level.

As far as these fans are concerned, I would say either get the Holmes HAWF2043 or the Bionaire BW2300, but stay far away from the Honeywell HW-628. Good luck!

I've had the Bionaire BW2300 for just over three years now. It's holding up quite well. I use it all the time and it works as well today after three years of use as it did when it was brand new out of the box. The remote control and the full temperature controls are nice! I'm very happy with it. Its one of the best things I've ever purchased.

I am a big fan of this one. (yuck, yuck) Actually, the fan works very well. It's speeds are noticably different depending on your need and the thermostat settings really work. I bought one for a room where and AC was not practical and it worked like a charm. I now have three of them and even in the largest room, it does a great job. Not silent, but not distracting. When the sun goes down, temperatures can be as low as 55 degrees, but without a breeze, you can't get that breeze in your home. With this fan, I can now bring in that cold air, and cool down my second floor in no time. I bought three, to use in all my rooms, to cool the whole floor, and now can limit the use of my air conditioner and lower those high electric bills. As for the comments about noise being a problem, I don't hear it. If anything, it is a constant frequency which will drown out other unwanted noises, like that of white noise from a water fountain.

I recently bought two of these for my apartment. I lack air conditioning and don't really have the money for a decent window air conditioner, but I won't really need it now that I have a couple of these. I put one at one end of the apartment set to "intake" and one at the other set to "exhaust" and now there is a nice little breeze (not strong, but perceptible) through the whole apartment, keeping the air from getting stagnant and oppressively hot. I wouldn't recommend these as a replacement for air conditioning for larger apartments or houses, or for people who really can't stand heat and humidity at all (I grew up in the deep south and don't mind humidity), but if you're looking for something to keep the air in your home breezy and fresh, this will get the job done. The controls are easy to use and the set up is self explanatory and takes only a minute. They're also pretty lightweight and durable, which is a plus for me since I move fairly frequently. And at $30/each, they're a lot of bang for your buck. I am very pleased with my purchase.

I bought this fan because it is starting to get hot in New York and I couldn't stand it anymore. I ordered this fan because it was the highest rated window fan on Amazon, but now I think the system is rigged because this is the worst fan I've ever bought. The fan has less power than my own lungs. There are several settings, none of which seem to do anything, and when the fan is on it's highest "setting" it blows with almost no power. If I could give it zero stars I would, but here I can only give one star. I'm sending it back to Amazon. (January 5, 2010) Got one of these a few years back as we had a couple of experiences with the basement refrigerator door left ajar and later failure (no alarm feature). Have been very happy with it, except that the alarm is not very loud. Seems to be a common comment on other alarm thermometers.

One feature that pulls me to this particular model (besides matching the one I already have) is the "buffered" probe. The bottle of glycol averages the temperature measurements a bit so that short durations with the door open don't cause a spike and alarm.

The probe wire is small enough to not cause a problem of air/humidity leakage through magnetic door seals.

By the way, the description may not be clear: the alarm can be disabled via a slide switch on the back.

It is somewhat unfortunate that this is not offered as a dual fridge/freezer meter.

Am adding 3 of these to my wish list for upcoming birthday for additional fridge/freezers.

At the time of this review, I see the same thermometer on Amazon with 2 different brand names (VWR, Fisher Scientific) for sale by 3rd parties only. So the brand and sellers may change over time. If so, look for the probe in the green bottle and the "Traceable" label above the LCD display. Price is around $50.

This is an easy to use and program thermometer for refrigerator/freezer. The cord is long enough to make it easy to place the base unit where needed. I had difficulty ataching the bottle to the inside of my freezer the double stick tape did not stick due to condensation. I suggest that a small holder to for the bottle that would clip to the shelving.

I keep temperature-dependent medications in our medical office (one medication $3000 so I was looking for an alarmed system to replace the bottle-probe that I had to open the refrigerator to check). The cable has plenty of length to run from the inside back of my refrigerator to the monitor I attached to the outside of the fridge; the cable is very thin/flat so there isn't an air leak. I securely fastened the monitor using 3M strips in a very visible location so I see it frequently. It was easy to set the alarm parameters (2-6 degrees) then I tested it and found the alarm to work very accurately. There were many other, much more costly options; the was reasonably priced and does the job perfectly!

I have read several mixed reviews about this thermostat, so I would like to add my 2-cents about my experience thus far.

NOTE: unless you wish to use the iPhone app, website/mobile site, don't get this thermostat since it is not programmable from the panel. This is not a flaw, it's a feature. If you don't like that, move on.

INSTALLATION:

Installation was a breeze. Make sure to write down the device number on the back of the thermostat before you mount it, you'll need the number in a few minutes to set up your account with Hunter. The thermostat did feel a bit wobbly with the two screws provided, but that was an easy fix since I had an extra sheetrock screw on hand. Wire terminals are labeled and color coded, yellow to yellow, red to red, etc. It came with a setup booklet which gives clear instructions for mounting, wiring, wireless setup, etc. The thermostat can be bus powered or use batteries or both. Batteries are supposed to last a year or so with normal use. The thermostat snaps in and out of the wall mount, so changing batteries doesn't require messing with screws.

INITIAL SETUP:

You'll need the device number from the back of the thermostat in order to set it up on Hunter's website or iPhone app. Plug the wireless gateway into your router with the included CAT5 cable and hook up the AC/DC power adapter. The LED on the gateway will blink red. Create an account with Hunter (which is $10/year after your free trial is over) and add the thermostat to your account. Within a minute or so, the thermostat will connect and the gateway LED will be green. You're good to go.

PROGRAMMING:

The device is meant to be programmed from Hunter's website or iPhone app, not from the panel itself. It has a few buttons on it such as auto/cool/heat/off, temp up/down, stay/away, schedule on/off, fan on/off.

NOTE: changing the settings from the panel will not override the schedule unless you turn scheduling off! If scheduling is on and you set the temp manually from the panel, the thermostat will go back to the scheduled settings unless you turn scheduling off! It's simple, but many negative reviews have been written about this thermostat because of this. THIS IS A STANDARD FEATURE FOUND ON PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTATS AND NOT A DESIGN FLAW! If you want to manually adjust the temp, turn scheduling off!

Ok, back on topic. I prefer using the computer with a mouse and keyboard for the initial setup. Windows or Mac is fine for the website. There is only an app for iPhone, not Android (what's up with that, Hunter?), but you can also use the mobile website from your Android or smartphone which works like the iPhone app. Or if you're a computer geek like me, you can easily create your own Android app (using webview).

You can have multiple, separate schedules throughout each day/night for each day of the week. You can also save your custom schedule as a template and apply them to whichever day you wish. All seven days of the week are programmable. You can heat or cool till your heart's content. I found the website, mobile site and app to be easy to use (not sure what's up with the neg reviews on iTunes).

NOTE: the iPhone app doesn't talk straight to the thermostat through your router, it goes through the internet to Hunter so you'll need internet access on your phone and thermostat in order to make changes to the thermostat.

FEATURES:

The thermostat has a lot of features such as auto heat/cool which automatically turns on the heater or AC, whichever is need. You can also program the temperature span which allows you to set how far the temperature can rise/fall before the thermostat kicks in. If you have the thermostat set to cool to 75 and have the span on 3 degrees, it will allow the temperature to rise to 78 before the AC is turned on. You can lower the span down to 1 degree. There is an away mode which turns the thermostat on savings mode while you're out of the house.

CONCLUSION:

I have been completely pleased with this thermostat. I will say though that if you are computer illiterate, you will probably find this thermostat very challenging to setup. There's a lot of features to play with, so take your time to read and reread the manual. Hunter also has a few videos on their website showing how to set everything up. I give this thermostat a big thumbs up.

I contacted Hunter customer support with a few questions regarding this item and was told that this model is discontinued and has been pulled off the market. The internet and iPhone app functions will no longer be supported within a few months. It will then be a non-functional item since it can only be programmed online or via app. Hunter will reimburse those that already own it.

I picked this thermostat up in January. I was originally looking at the Hunter 44905 which was rated well, but decided to go with the 44920 for the wifi feature thinking I would get similar features with the wifi added. That was definitly not the case. Beware, upon picking it up i noticed a label on the box that mentioned a subscription required for the app or online account. I did not notice this on Amazon and it is buried well within the Hunter site. It costs $9.99/yr or $50 lifetime after a 3 month trial.

The look of the thermostat and the instilation was both nice and easy. I was shocked to discover that you can not program the thermostat from the device. You have to program it from the app or online. The app is horrible and glitchy. You can not set the time or date. It is supposed to auto set for you by zip or postal code, but never worked right and had the wrong day. Tried multiple postal and zip codes. Setting up the schedule seemed easy at first, but later trying to edit the schedule caused numerous errors requiring me to delete my programs and start over. The app would also crash often and had long delays and time outs while trying to make changes on it. I emailed Hunter to see if there are any plans to imporve the app but they never responded. I refused to pay a single cent more for the subscription on this useless app, and without the subscription the thermostat basically reverts back to a basic thermostat and can not be programmed. Returned it and decided to put the money and extra $50 for a subscription towards a Nest 1st gen on sale and I'm very pleased.

We have a home that we're fixing up, and so only spend every other weekend there. This review is thus oriented to the needs of someone with a vacation house. From that perspective, this is a really handy product. You can call up the app and see what temperature it is inside the house, and what your heater is doing. There's also an estimate of what the temperature is outside.

PROS: Easy to install. Works. Easy to fire up the Internet connection, and the app.

CONS; The back plate is kinda flimsy, but that's not a big deal. You must might worry a bit you are going to snap the thing.

When you plug the device in, it says 'disconnected.' if you are like me, you try to re-plug it in. Actually, what that means is "disconnected" from the Internet. once you fire up the Internet connection, that goes away.

Auto-program: The device comes with a built-in program that will heat your house to at least 60. You need to shut the settings off, a couple of times, from the phone. I was still not sure I had the damn thing off, so I just created a setting at which every time is 50 degrees. I think Hunter would have happier customers if they walked someone through the process of shutting down the auto-programming.

This brings up a final point, which is that the lowest you can set this thermostat via your app is 50. I would save a lot more money if I could set it to 40. But ... hey, the darn thing works. It was a good investment.

I did quite a bit of research before buying an electric fireplace. I decided the best look for my home would be a cherry, corner unit, and firmly believed that any fire box smaller than 26" wouldn't cut it. This Dimplex unit fit the bill exactly. It was packed and delivered with care. The cherry finish matches the photo exactly, and the fire box is a perfect size with realistic logs and flames. Another positive is that the heater motor is very quiet, and my 46" flat panel TV sits perfectly on top. Now, there are 2 important negatives. Even though it was easy to set up, the entire unit is wobbly unless you anchor it to the wall, and I also believe that all the top end fireplaces I viewed, including the Dimplex I purchased, were over-priced by as much as $400.00. That said, I'm still happy with my fireplace. It looks great.

I bought this for my master bedroom and put a 37" TV on it. Its the perfect height and size. It has precense in the room and is the right size for the TV. In addition its great to use in the winter to heat up the master for those mornings you don't want to get out of bed. I also use it in the summer without the heat just for the ambiance the fire creates. The design is simple and beautiful. Its a very clean look and has held up great over the past year. It is wobbly free-standing, but when pushed into the corner it doesn't really move.

I bought this because my other one went out. I purchased a Food Network one that did 4 waffles at a time. It took lots of batter and when it messed up, you had to throw out 4 waffles. This one does the job but it has very small square imprint. Very cheap design. Definately not a belgium size and not even a recipe in booklet. That said, it makes decent waffles, but you must take time to fluff your egg whites or it will not be crispy. This is a great size for ice cream sandwiches. Also I went to Walmart one day and they sell one that is similar for quite a bit less. I always buy on Amazon because it is usually best price and I do not have to drive to town.

I followed directions exactly let it warm up, waited 3 minutes as per instructions before even attempting to check waffles for doneness. Even let them cook a little longer. What I ended up with were waffles that were separated and stuck to either side of the waffle maker. Yes, I also did grease the grills a little so they wouldn't stick. But they separated in the middle so I had to pry them off each side. If I had left them on any longer they would have burnt. Then, there was the cleaning of what was left on the grills. Instructions say to use a pastry brush to clean. Ha! No way. Luckily I had a plastic spatula scraper thing that came with a George Forman grill that I could use to scrape off the remainder of the "waffles". My advice: don't get this thing. Find something else.

This can only be used to average out settings.

It cannot be used to monitor the temperature in a room and drive the temperature in that room to the desired setting.

I would like the thermostats to be smarter than this and give me the option of what I want to do.

At least it should display the remote sensed temperature but it doesn't.

It displays an average.

If you want to monitor the temperature in a room and drive it to that setting, the Portable Comfort Control (REM5000R1001) must be used.

I have found the Portable Comfort Control to have issues so it is not ideal either. However, it does not force the use of an average temperature setting.

If you are expecting the temperature of another room to be indicated on the Honeywell thermostat, this will not do so.

Only the Portable Comfort Control will do this with a wireless thermostat.

Purchased one of these with my new ac system in fall 2013. The Goodman comfortnet thermostat allows up to six of sensors to be connected. I installed one upstairs to help keep the the whole house temperature more accurate along with humidity levels. My upstairs is always warmer, but now I had such great results with one I now have five plus the thermostat. All work together to help keep our house at a more accurate temp. I've found that by mounting them on an inside wall about four feet high they provide very accurate readings. If you want your house to reflect the true temperature set on your thermostat then this is a most have. I paid an average of $37 a sensor.

Then at last i purchased this yogurt maker. This works perfectly. I do the exact same thing with my milk that i used to do before, bring it to boil, cool it down till its just luke warm and then mix some yogurt from the previous day into it as culture and keep it into this yogurt maker and turn it on...and next morning i have perfect yogurt.

This yogurt maker comes with 4 , 5 ounce jars. These too worked out great for me. I make different kinds of yogurt now everyday in these jars. yogurt with whole milk for my kids and yogurt with fat free milk for myself and husband. I also purchased on big bowl from walmart that fits perfectly into this yogurt maker...for days when I need more yogurt when we have ppl over and stuff...and it makes more than 1/2 litre of yogurt......

I usually let the milk sit in the maker for 6 hours to make sweet/non-sour perfect yogurt for daily consumption. But when i need sour yogurt for some dish ( like rava idli) and stuff I let it sit for 8 -10hrs and it works out great.

It consumes very less power, this device comsumes only 11 watts and so haven't seen any noticeable difference in my electric bill too..

this maker makes good yogurt. and the design is compact and looks good. it doesn't take much space at all while sitting on the counter. and the BPA free glass jars even make this model more awesome!

i would definitely recommend this yogurt maker to singles or small family who don't actually require big amount of yogurt daily/weekly.

Makes good yogurt...now. On first try I used Trader Joe's 2% milk and Greek Gods plain yogurt as starter, used the amount suggested in the instructions, 1/2 cup i think. I heated the milk & cooled down beforehand, left in for 8 hours. Result was runny & inconsistent setting, inedible and too sour. Second try I used Strauss Family 2% milk and two generous tablespoons of Fage plain, heated/cooled milk beforehand, plus put a paper towel in the machine, under the jars. (I suspect the floor of the machine gets too hot for cultures to survive, don't need too much starter). Result was perfect yogurt after 8 hours, thick & creamy even without straining. Very happy esp since Amazon price was only $18 for new.

I chose this one since it was the perfect size for me since I'm single. The instructions say to use 1/2 c plain yogurt or starter, 4 cups of milk, and 1/4c to 1/2 c instant non fat dry milk powder. I didn't do that. First off, the 4 cups of milk is way too much and will not fit in the glass containers.

I used 3 cups of organic, ultra pasteurized(UHT) milk and about 1 1/2 Tbsp of Fage 2% plain Greek yogurt. If you use UHT milk you don't have to parboil. I wasn't thrilled about using nonfat dry milk so I left that out. Came out perfect for my tastes. I pulled out two at about 7 hours and the other 2 after about 15 hours. I didn't notice a huge difference in tartness but the consistency for the ones that stayed in longer was a tiny bit thicker. I mostly use yogurt for smoothies so I don't need it to be very thick. The consistency reminds me of yogurt you can get in Europe or Asia. Next time I may try using a full fat, organic Greek yogurt as a starter and see how it comes out. I also saw a recipe that uses 2 c milk and only 2 tsps of yogurt as a starter. I just got this yesterday so I'm still in the testing stages but I totally love it so far and would recommend this to anyone!

it does the job, and does it well. i'm not using dried starter, but the store bought yogurt as starter, and it works well. i start it before bed, and in the morning my yogurt is ready! so convenient! i use organic milk, no additives, no food color, no corn syrup, no preservatives, awesome! i would recommend this to my friends.
