I have a kitchenaid warming drawer that quit on my wife the other day. I did the troubleshooting and found this little safety switch to be the culprit. This switch is not re-settable. You have to replace it! What a scam!

Then came the hard part...finding a reasonably inexpensive replacement. I went to all the appliance sites and they all wanted at least $50 bucks plus shipping. Finally came to my senses and searched Amazon. To my surprise I got this one for $38 bucks including shipping. Took a week to get it, but I'm cheap and put up with the wife's nagging about not having a warming drawer for a week. My punishment was no warm meals when I came in from working on the yard. Oh well.

I can only hope that someday they'll come up with a re-settable thermal switch.

My refrigerator kept icing up and the fan would stop. I could thaw everything out and it would run again but that fix lasted only a few days. With help from online do it yourself sites, I decided to replace the thermostat first, as it was the least expensive of suspected parts o replace. As it turned out, I also needed a timer, but these parts are inexpensive and arrive within a few days from ordering. I saved myself maybe $1,000 by not having to replace the refrigerator and it works fine now.

Having read some negative reviews prior to purchase, I questioned the wisdom of ordering the Sure Mountain Natural Gas burner. It arrived intact, with no damage to the ceramic logs. I uninstalled my non-functioning gas logs and in less than one hour had the new unit unpacked, installed, tested for gas leaks, and operating.

It does have a whistling sound when the burner is turned to the highest setting, but at that setting the amount of heat produced is more than I want. At the lowest setting it produces more heat than the previous gas logs we were using.

I was slightly disappointed when I received it. It was much smaller than I expected. I read the descripion several times, but it just doesnt look the same as the picture, I wish I would have spent a little more and bought on with more logs. That being said, I did keep it and installed it with no problem. It works well and Iwe have grown used to it. Once we added a screen door to our fireplace, we like it much better. It does a fine job and does put out good heat. It warms out living and dinning area in about 15 minutes on a cold morning on low setting. I think that having a screen in front of it made us forget about it and just start enjoying it.

a quality product for a great price. I search the internet high and low and could not find a better deal than this. as far as working goes it does what it says. it puts out moe heat than I need. it was easy to setup and use. however there was a slight odor when I first met the logs the odor has since went away

Honest reviews on Sure Heat Hand Painted Gas Log Sets For Vent Free Fire Places

The ceramic logs are horrible. They have charred and give off a black discharge that has left black dust all over my house. This is not a vent free product and is cheaply made. I will be replacing it with a higher quality product and throwing these logs away.

I have just arranged to return this set to Amazon. Despite repeated attempts by ourselves and later by a plumber, we could not get the burner to light. We checked the gas line to the fireplace and the gas pressure. No problem with either. We also checked all of the fittings. The pilot lit okay and burned with a steady blue flame, so we know that gas was reaching the burner. The problem was likely the regulator, but I refused to pay any more money than I already had to try and fix it. Amazon will refund my purchase price, but the initial savings on the item was eaten up by the extra cost of a plumber. I considered asking for a replacement, but really don't want to take another chance on a product from this manufacturer. The picture looks nice. Shame I can't tell you that it actually looks that good when burning in the fireplace.

Review of Honeywell HM512VPIAQ TrueSteam Humidifier - 12 Gallon

Honeywell HM512VPIAQ TrueSteam Humidifier - 12 Gallon
Customer Ratings: 2 stars

Here's the deal. This product is basically a bucket with a huge electrode in the middle of it. The system fills the bucket with water and turns on the electrode. This creates steam which is pumped into the air ducts. Other humidifiers work by passing air over a water soaked filter. The idea of not having to deal with a nasty filter but rather having steam injected into the air flow is amazing. Because this unit basically boils the water, it leaves behind all of the calcium and lime in the tank. It does try to flush the tank every so often to get rid of it but as we all know, hard water builds up on everything. Unless you have VERY soft water the system will eventually need a cleaning. When you follow the instructions you have do due a hard water test and then buy a filter product. The product comes with a hard water test kit that you use to tell how hard your water is. There are 3 levels and at each level Honeywell recommends a product to reduce the water hardness. I am telling you, you need a method to get rid of the calcium or lime in your water or this product will not work. As with everything, people try to do it as cheaply as possible and not buy a filter. Then the system doesn't work, even though Honeywell told you want you need and people complain that this is junk. The $250 item the other reviewer is talking about is a reverse osmosis kit that removes all the calcium and lime from the water. Sure it sucks to have to buy another item but you'll need one for other products as well, unless you like chipping away the build up every so often. The part number you need is Honeywell 50045947-001. If you have really bad water pressure get 50045947-002 which comes with a pump. 50045947-001 runs about $178.

With that said, Honeywell advertises this as being able to be installed in 5 minutes. That is only true if you have: 1. a drain nearby, a dedicated 15 AMP circuit (this product draws 12 amps), and a water source. You also need spot on your HVAC outflow duct large enough to mount this on. I didn't have a dedicated 15 AMP line in so I put one in easy enough but if you aren't good with electrical you'll have to hire someone to put a line in. This comes with a saddle value which allows you to tap onto an existing water pipe without having to call a plumber. It worked great. You can use this with any humidistat or thermostat that has a humidity control. I have the Honeywell Prestige thermostat and wanted to connect this to the system wirelessly. To do that I had to buy an additional Honeywell wireless adapter. The wireless adapter made it easy though. Connect A to A, B to B, C to C, D to D and you're done. All in all my complete install was about $800-$900 (including reverse osmosis filter). Is that a lot of money? I guess, but I like the best.

So if you want to be successful make sure you buy the Honeywell reverse osmosis system or you'll be sorry. Installers, quit selling this to people without also selling the reverse osmosis system.

What a frustrating expensive disappointment this humidifier has been.My wife wanted more humidity in our home. Pretty dry out here in the desert southwest. We had this unit professionally installed in our 7 year old home. We have two split HVAC systems in our 3000 sq foot home. We live in Western AZ. It was installed in one of the air handlers. We have a soft water conditioner and the recommended water filter in the system. We had some initial issues with a defective pump assembly and erroneous error codes that were due to a bad water sensor. Once those items were corrected, it worked great for about two months. Then we would get air flow, but no humidity change, or it wouldn't come on at all. The HVAC company has installed complete system installations for us on a few homes we had built over the last several years. They have a good reputation in this town and know what they are doing. We have had at least 12 service visits since it was installed in January of 2012. Our air handlers are installed in our attics, which is typical for this area, but makes reading the service lights and doing repairs a real pain in the rear and costly. Our HVAC contractor now wants to refund all of our money and remove the system. They too, have had enough with this unreliable system. They have a few others installed in town that are causing them issues.Tech support with Honeywell is pretty good for the Techs, but the homeowner support phone number is in India and their service,in my opinion is poor, very poor. I am retired now, but I have HVAC experience. You can press one for English, but that won't get you anyone that speaks it very well. When I asked to speak to someone at Honeywell in the U.S., I never received a return call back as promised. Buy a portable humidifier, you will be happier with it and save a lot of money.

Update: The humidifier system was removed on 03/11/13 at the request of the contractor and we received a full refund.

Honeywell HM506H8908 Truesteam Humidifier, 6-GallonIt sounded so good. Bought online and installed it myself and my HVAC friend set up the wiring into my system. Worked OK a few months, but added about $100.00 a month to my electric bill. Then, the little red trouble lights started blinking, so I cleaned it repeatedly and replaced parts, but a day or two later the defect light was blinking again. Got a new one on warranty and it did not last any longer. The new manual, when the red light flashes, says just call your installer for a service call!!!! Ripped it all out and into trash.

Honest reviews on Honeywell HM512VPIAQ TrueSteam Humidifier - 12 Gallon

I have a TrueSteam humidifire. Half of the parts are replaced at least once. It has cost me way more than its price to maintain it, not considering all the time I put into it, all the nights I wend down to the furnace room to reset it, and days off work to be home to open the door for my tech guy. Don't be deceived by the 5 year warranty, it is just a gimmick to lure you in. Once you're hooked you have implicitly accepted paying Honeywell hundreds of dollars without having a choice. Consider buying a unit which is more expensive and have it properly installed. Just think about it, if you buy a decent humidifier twice as expensive and it works for you for ten years you have saved yourself at least $500 because with Honeywell you must buy at least three units to get through 10 years of service, let alone your time to baby sit them.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Honeywell HM512VPIAQ TrueSteam Humidifier - 12 Gallon

Do not buy. I have four of these units; two in my home and two in my parents' home. They are very poorly designed and I strongly recommend you avoid them. In the two years I have had them, I have had the following problems:

1) Three water overflow sensor errors. Even though these can be removed and cleaned, in each case the fault would recur despite their relatively short life span and no obvious visual sign of wear. I ended up purchasing new sensors for all three. (About $90 each as I recall). Oh, and Honeywell won't talk to you or let you order parts if you are not a HVAC professional. The result of this silly policy is that people end up going to internet supply houses and buying parts that they might not need because Honeywell won't help with diagnosis of problems.

2) These get very hot when working. You need rubber drain hoses or hi-temp PVC. Both of my resevoirs have discolored and on occasion, water boils up through the top vents. and down the face of the unit. Frankly, they are a little scary and had I known how hot they would get, I probably would not have bought a plastic unit. I can't really blame Honeywell for that (it is supposed to make steam after all).

3) The automoatic drain cycles are almost useless and you can plan on cleaning these a couple of times a season or the heating element and the water resevoir where the overflow sensor sits will start to build up with scale and you will start getting error messages (blinking lights). Over the summer, fill the tank with a mix of CLR and water and leave it unplugged. After a few weeks, all the crud and scale will dissolve.

4) Two of the four units leak from the bottowm of the water resevoir near the resevoir retaining and drain stem. I've disassembled the valve assemblies (clean and lube), but there are no washers -if you want to fix the leak, pull out your wallet and buy a new internal stem. I just keep a bucket underneath them for now because I plan on replacing all four units at the end of this season.

All in all, good concept, bad execution.

**** UPDATE ****

**** DO NOT PURCHASE ****

**** HUNTER HAS DISCONTINUED THIS THERMOSTAT! ****

**** REMOTE INTERNET SERVICE WILL BE DISCONTINUED AUGUST 1, 2013. ****

(original review)

I have read several mixed reviews about this thermostat, so I would like to add my 2-cents about my experience thus far.

NOTE: unless you wish to use the iPhone app, website/mobile site, don't get this thermostat since it is not programmable from the panel. This is not a flaw, it's a feature. If you don't like that, move on.

INSTALLATION:

Installation was a breeze. Make sure to write down the device number on the back of the thermostat before you mount it, you'll need the number in a few minutes to set up your account with Hunter. The thermostat did feel a bit wobbly with the two screws provided, but that was an easy fix since I had an extra sheetrock screw on hand. Wire terminals are labeled and color coded, yellow to yellow, red to red, etc. It came with a setup booklet which gives clear instructions for mounting, wiring, wireless setup, etc. The thermostat can be bus powered or use batteries or both. Batteries are supposed to last a year or so with normal use. The thermostat snaps in and out of the wall mount, so changing batteries doesn't require messing with screws.

INITIAL SETUP:

You'll need the device number from the back of the thermostat in order to set it up on Hunter's website or iPhone app. Plug the wireless gateway into your router with the included CAT5 cable and hook up the AC/DC power adapter. The LED on the gateway will blink red. Create an account with Hunter (which is $10/year after your free trial is over) and add the thermostat to your account. Within a minute or so, the thermostat will connect and the gateway LED will be green. You're good to go.

PROGRAMMING:

The device is meant to be programmed from Hunter's website or iPhone app, not from the panel itself. It has a few buttons on it such as auto/cool/heat/off, temp up/down, stay/away, schedule on/off, fan on/off.

NOTE: changing the settings from the panel will not override the schedule unless you turn scheduling off! If scheduling is on and you set the temp manually from the panel, the thermostat will go back to the scheduled settings unless you turn scheduling off! It's simple, but many negative reviews have been written about this thermostat because of this. THIS IS A STANDARD FEATURE FOUND ON PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTATS AND NOT A DESIGN FLAW! If you want to manually adjust the temp, turn scheduling off!

Ok, back on topic. I prefer using the computer with a mouse and keyboard for the initial setup. Windows or Mac is fine for the website. There is only an app for iPhone, not Android (what's up with that, Hunter?), but you can also use the mobile website from your Android or smartphone which works like the iPhone app. Or if you're a computer geek like me, you can easily create your own Android app (using webview).

You can have multiple, separate schedules throughout each day/night for each day of the week. You can also save your custom schedule as a template and apply them to whichever day you wish. All seven days of the week are programmable. You can heat or cool till your heart's content. I found the website, mobile site and app to be easy to use (not sure what's up with the neg reviews on iTunes).

NOTE: the iPhone app doesn't talk straight to the thermostat through your router, it goes through the internet to Hunter so you'll need internet access on your phone and thermostat in order to make changes to the thermostat.

FEATURES:

The thermostat has a lot of features such as auto heat/cool which automatically turns on the heater or AC, whichever is need. You can also program the temperature span which allows you to set how far the temperature can rise/fall before the thermostat kicks in. If you have the thermostat set to cool to 75 and have the span on 3 degrees, it will allow the temperature to rise to 78 before the AC is turned on. You can lower the span down to 1 degree. There is an away mode which turns the thermostat on savings mode while you're out of the house.

There's too many other features to mention here. You can read the product description to see all the features.

CONCLUSION:

I have been completely pleased with this thermostat. I will say though that if you are computer illiterate, you will probably find this thermostat very challenging to setup. There's a lot of features to play with, so take your time to read and reread the manual. Hunter also has a few videos on their website showing how to set everything up. I give this thermostat a big thumbs up.

I contacted Hunter customer support with a few questions regarding this item and was told that this model is discontinued and has been pulled off the market. The internet and iPhone app functions will no longer be supported within a few months. It will then be a non-functional item since it can only be programmed online or via app. Hunter will reimburse those that already own it.

(Contact Hunter customer support and they will confirm what I am writing here.)

I picked this thermostat up in January. I was originally looking at the Hunter 44905 which was rated well, but decided to go with the 44920 for the wifi feature thinking I would get similar features with the wifi added. That was definitly not the case. Beware, upon picking it up i noticed a label on the box that mentioned a subscription required for the app or online account. I did not notice this on Amazon and it is buried well within the Hunter site. It costs $9.99/yr or $50 lifetime after a 3 month trial.

The look of the thermostat and the instilation was both nice and easy. I was shocked to discover that you can not program the thermostat from the device. You have to program it from the app or online. The app is horrible and glitchy. You can not set the time or date. It is supposed to auto set for you by zip or postal code, but never worked right and had the wrong day. Tried multiple postal and zip codes. Setting up the schedule seemed easy at first, but later trying to edit the schedule caused numerous errors requiring me to delete my programs and start over. The app would also crash often and had long delays and time outs while trying to make changes on it. I emailed Hunter to see if there are any plans to imporve the app but they never responded. I refused to pay a single cent more for the subscription on this useless app, and without the subscription the thermostat basically reverts back to a basic thermostat and can not be programmed. Returned it and decided to put the money and extra $50 for a subscription towards a Nest 1st gen on sale and I'm very pleased.

Honest reviews on Hunter 44920 Universal Internet Thermostat, White

We have a home that we're fixing up, and so only spend every other weekend there. This review is thus oriented to the needs of someone with a vacation house. From that perspective, this is a really handy product. You can call up the app and see what temperature it is inside the house, and what your heater is doing. There's also an estimate of what the temperature is outside.

PROS: Easy to install. Works. Easy to fire up the Internet connection, and the app.

CONS; The back plate is kinda flimsy, but that's not a big deal. You must might worry a bit you are going to snap the thing.

When you plug the device in, it says 'disconnected.' if you are like me, you try to re-plug it in. Actually, what that means is "disconnected" from the Internet. once you fire up the Internet connection, that goes away.

Auto-program: The device comes with a built-in program that will heat your house to at least 60. You need to shut the settings off, a couple of times, from the phone. I was still not sure I had the damn thing off, so I just created a setting at which every time is 50 degrees. I think Hunter would have happier customers if they walked someone through the process of shutting down the auto-programming.

This brings up a final point, which is that the lowest you can set this thermostat via your app is 50. I would save a lot more money if I could set it to 40. But ... hey, the darn thing works. It was a good investment.

I have had two of these installed at my vacation home for over two years and have never had a problem with them. They allowed me to control the heat and A/C remotely with no problems. Unfortunately, Hunter decided to drop this product line.

The following is the text of an email I received from Hunter Fans today. At least they are reimbursing me for the two thermostats that I purchased.

I thought it was going to be a nicer product.. Although it works fine, the material looks and feels very synthetic. I was kind of disappointed because it looks like the worst quality material ever... But in the other hand, it was brand new and works perfectly. I guess it is hard to tell the quality by just looking to the pictures.

I live in a freezing cold apartment, so I decided to try an electric blanket. Let me tell you, this one is lame!! It didn't heat evenly and sometimes it didn't really heat at all. On the highest setting it was luke warm at best. I gave it a few tries, but it just never worked properly. One time it got so hot that I had to stick my feet out, but the upper half was cool to the touch. Also, the material is absolutely gross. It feels really cheap like a bad motel blanket. It sheds everywhere, so after being under the blanket I had to use a lint roller to clean my clothing off. The material is so thin, leaving the wires visible. Very disappointing product.

This is a crappy product of the first magnitude. The plug has to be constantly reset almost every time you move the blanket a bit, which means you have to get out of bed to unplug it and plug it back in again.

Junk, junk, junk.

I plan to purchase 3 for my grandchildren for Christmas because they love sliding into my warm bed.

I bought one of these early in the year & it has been a blessing in my old, drafty, under-insulated house. I don't need to crank up the expensive gas heating, but I stay nice & warm in my family room now. I am saving up to buy 2 more in smaller sizes for other rooms. The increase in my electric bill has been slight, but the decrease in my gas bill has been noticeable!

Plus my older cat loves it too! She just lays right down & goes to sleep!

We bought our first rug buddy (5x7) for our baby's nursery and love it! This is the third electric mattress pad we have had and it is by far my favorite. I bought it because of the auto-off feature. My spouse is not so good about remembering to turn it off and now I don't have to check it.

We use the European style of bedding: a comforter with a duvet cover and no top sheet. Making the bed literally takes a few seconds. However, this set-up is impossible with electric blankets, so we use the electric mattress pads. The first one had very noticeable wires. Now we are not "Princess and a Pea" people, but it was not comfortable. It had to be on for at least 15 minutes to feel any heat. Still, we used it for many years. Later I replaced it with a better one. Still, the wires were uncomfortable and it was slow to heat. I put an additional mattress pad on top of the heated one to make it more comfortable, which probably reduced the heat even further, but it cushioned the wires.

This model is really great. I do not feel any wires at all. It heats very quickly. Turn it on PH and it preheats at the top setting for 30 minutes, then goes to what you had it set at.

The only thing I don't like about this is that the plug in is on the top (horizontal)foot of the bed instead of on the (vertical) side. Our feet hit a hard plate. It is not unpleasant, it will just take some time to get used to it. You also have to plug the unit in on an outlet that is on the right side of the bed for the controllers to properly reach your nightstands. It states that in the instructions, but I wanted to plug it in on the left (my husband's) side as my side's outlet was full. The first time I tried the bed I was unhappy with the heat. I had it on PH and didn't feel it. Then my foot happened to kick over to my husband's side and it was toasty warm. A minute spent moving the plug (and controllers) and it worked fine. Amazing what following the instructions can do.

This product works as shown. It has dual adjustable zones (my wife likes to cook, I merely like to steep) and a nice "preheat" mode that works quickly (turn it on before you brush your teeth, and the bed is warm by the time you get there). We haven't turned on the heat at all this winter, and we would have if we didn't have this.

We have previously owned electric blankets and this is *so* much better. Heat rises, make the most of it!

We've had it about a month so far, and no problems. I was worried whether we should pay a lot more for the more expensive line Amazon offered, but so far I am really happy with how this one turned out.

This is a great product. The preheat function means you don't have to turn it on 30 minutes before bedtime. 5 minutes is plenty for it to warm the bed. Would definitely recommend.

Honest reviews on Sunbeam Imperial 140-Thread-Count Polyester Cotton Blend Comfort

I purchased this product last week and it failed out of the box. Sunbeam's heated blanket and mattress pad products have many quality issues. I have purchased 3 within the the last 5 years and they typically will not last more than a single winter. I can guarantee they will not last the 5 year guarantee period. When they quit operating, Sunbeam requires that you ship the blanket to a service center somewhere in the south. After several weeks a blanket is returned to you. Ours was not the blanket shipped. At least the returned blanket was clean. Thanks! I purchased this heated mattresss pad because I thought it might be more durable than the blanket.

Sunbeam used to manufacture quality products that worked well and lasted for years. It's hard to believe this product is still marketed as the "#1 Heated Mattress Pad."

I received this mattress pad heater as a present and it was wonderful for a total of 23 days. It now blinks an error message 'F2' and will not heat up. I googled this in hopes of finding a solution and apparently it happens quite often to other buyers and is un-fixable. Very unhappy with this product (SUNBEAM IMPERIAL HEATED MATTRESS PAD).
