Just what my dryer needed to start working and generating heat again.

The first thermostat came broken into 3 or 4 pieces. Amazon shipped out another immediately and although it meant 3 more days of no clean laundry it was worth it. When the 2nd part arrived I had it installed within minutes. After snapping my fingers my wife finished scrubbing the toilet and started on the 10 foot pile of laundry that was waiting. Meanwhile, I went back to watching the ball game.

This part perfectly repaired the heating ability of my clothes dryer. This was a magnificent deal compared to the cost of a new machine. If you need this part, it will work for you.

I bought this heater to go under my desk at work. While the turn knob is simple and is suppose to allow various settings, I have not had the experience of enjoying any settings. The heater shuts off within a minute. It doesn't matter what temperature I set it at. It will not go back on unless I unplug the heater and let it sit for 5 min. I think my co-workers have seen me under my desk fidgeting with the heater more than actually up at my desk doing work. I will definitely be returning it.

Loud and not adjustable -it is either full on or off. I got mine for $10 and it's not worth that.

Bought this unit last week to put next to my desk at work, but I haven't been completely happy with it.

The heater turns on and heats up instantly, but it is more like an open oven door than a space heater. The heat is there, but the fan in the unit doesn't have much blowing power... so you end up with heat for 1 or 2 feet in front of the unit but not 4 or 5 feet in front of the unit. I had it under my desk today and couldn't figure out where the heat was going... it sure wasn't circulating around anywhere.

The unit does put off a lot of heat... unfortunately I couldn't find a happy medium between cooked ankles and cold ankles.

I like the simple temp knob on top, but I end up leaning over to turn it up and down all day as I get cold and hot.

If I were shopping again I would get a unit with more than one level of heat, more than one fan speed, and an on/off switch so I don't have to unplug it every day.

Stay warm!

i am a person that listens to reviews very frequently when buying online, unfortunatly i had the misfortune to buy this is the store and go along with advertising!

i also use heaters a lot! not that i go through them, but i have one in each room i frequent! i hate hate hate hate the cold! i can't stand it!

this is a deplorable product!

-the product is loud, so loud it distracts you from what ever you are doing! work, writing, reading, talking, peace and quite, or hanging out! so quite, just a loud repeated deep whirring noise that goes on forever!

-the heater might as well have one setting of heat! no difference and no change! want it a little cooler? WELL TOO BAD! sorry no can do!

-in reference to the last point, the timer for the heater goes off in what feels like an instant! there you are with the heater at a slightly unreasonable distance so you can feel the heat, but no burn your self, and it just turns it self off! then it takes an extraordinary amount of time to turn itself back on! so you are freezing your butt of waiting for it to heat up again! might as well not have a heater!

-the little trey/base it is on lets you adjust its aim to face higher, which would be nice if you were a super small being! it raises the heater about half an inch, which makes no difference! so there i am in the kitchen (i have the heater just outside of the kitchen door, but i stand near it) with my legs on fire and top half from the thigh up freezing cold! what is the point?

-oh and i know they tell you this, but i am just saying it because i had a close call! watch out or it will burn you!

thank you for listening, hope i helped!

I purchased this item on Nov. 2, 2011, (received it on Nov. 9, 2011), replacing an existing heater that had gone out. It was easy to hook up to the existing line that was already installed in the room from the old heater. I have NO complaints about the heater, I love it, it does everything it say and then some. It has a glass plate along with a screen in the front of it, which at first when I read that it's a 'cool touch' heater, I was very sceptically about that, but honestly it is very cool to the touch, even in the front! The only place the heat comes out is at the top and us having dogs in the house, makes this very comforting to me, as our old one was a 'brick' burner heater and it did leave the front open to being able to get to the flame and the bricks and possibly getting burnt or worse. In an approximate 15x15 area room, we can comfortable set it around 1-2 on the dial and stay very toasty with it. It's a dual gas heater, meaning you have have either natural gas or propane to hook it to, we have the propane, which there was nothing to do but hook it to the right line hole, (which are very clearly marked) and didn't have to worry about setting any other settings with it, it also has an electronic push button ignition, which does not even take batteries to work it and comes with a bunch of safety features as well. I plan on getting a larger one to replace the old brick burner we now have in our living room, but first I would like to let you know about the seller we purchased it from through Amazon, Northern Tools & Equipment, it states both here on Amazon and Northern's website that it comes with a blower,(but can't be used with this model), IT DOES NOT! I have went through countless emails back and forth about this between Amazon and Northern Tools, they, (Northern Tools & Equipment) just keep telling me that they will refund the money if I send it back to them and AFTER it passes THEIR inspection, which anyone will tell you that it won't after being hooked up! So, when I order my next ProCom heater I WILL NOT order it through Northern Tools & Equipment! I will make doubly sure that it comes from another seller and not Northern Tools! They will not stand by what they sell as far as what is suppose to come with it. I have no problems with Amazon, I have purchased many, many items over many years through them and will continue to make purchases through Amazon, they are a great company to buy from, they strongly stand behind what they sell and they have done everything in their power to correct this problem, but Northern Tools & Equipment refuses to co-operate, except as I stated earlier to return the product and refund my money after it passes inspection. So, if you want a very good heater that is easy to hook up and does what it says it will do, then I highly suggest the ProCom heater and it does come with a one year warranty included. I purchased this unit to replace a ProCom 10,000 btu unit I had gotten in Quartzsite, Arizona 7 years ago. That unit worked fine until last winter when it wouldn't stay lit. I thought this was the same unit until I received it & it said on the box "not for use in an rv" It also said that it would not work above 4,500 ft. None of this was mentioned on the web site. I returned it having to pay postage both ways.

The thermostat works perfect. Just the right size for the rv. Set it up with a fast connect hose under the fridge.

Honest reviews on PROCOM Blue Flame Wall Heater - 10,000 BTU Output, 300 Sq. Ft

I purchased mine on sale at Northern Tool while visiting my in-laws during Christmas of 2009. I grew up in the family plumbing business so was able to install the gas line myself, but those without experience will need professional installation. If you are replacing an existing appliance it is a non-issue. Otherwise, gas pipe and installation will cost more than the unit itself.

We live in Appalachia where power can go out for days and intended it to provide backup heat for one room. Once installed, however, the warm glow of the blue flame was irresistible and it has been on every winter since. We set its thermostat slightly lower than that of our inefficient central heat which now kicks on just often enough to disperse the heat and provide ventilation. This appliance has paid for itself in savings on our gas bill! It is supposed to only heat 300 Sq. Ft., but 700 Sq. Ft. is comfortable with a sweater when power is out and outside temperatures are below freezing.

We used to run our generator constantly when power was out just for the furnace fan, but since we bought this we can rely on a $100 inverter to cool our freezer an hour in the morning and evening and watch TV a few hours a night. Instead of standing in the freezing cold every 6 hours to refill the generator, we could fill up our Jeep once every two weeks. We live near the well heads, but if natural gas would be interrupted it will run about 3 days on a 20# propane grill tank (left outside).

An Excellent, well-built little heater (I now own two of this model).

The mandatory things I needed included:

1. A room sensitive/automatic thermostat (NOT the low-med-high manual type)

2. The size needed to be around 10,000 BTU's

3. That it was made by a trusted company

4. Priced low enough to fit my retirement budget

This unit fit the bill perfectly. I have used a much larger PROCOM heater as my primary living space heater for many years and, as long as I clean out the pilot every year (shut off for the summer), it runs perfectly.

The good:

The unit was well packed and the Installation instructions were accurate.

Everything needed to install the heater(including wall mounting anchors/screws and an allen wrench to UN-cork the gas port) was included.

The unit has a glass cover plate that extends across much of the front burn area (behind the metal grill) which serves as an added flame safety device, dust shield and draft blocker (to keep the pilot from being blown out) which is really an excellent idea. Access to this area to service the pilot is via four screws, two at the top and two at the bottom of the front grill.

-The igniter spark is strong and consistent. Once air was out of the gas pipe the pilot lit quickly and stays on.

The bad:

Nothing to speak of.

Notes:

As a dual use type (can be set to either Natural gas or Propane) it has two internal regulators and independent pilot systems. You should note that the pilot on the right is for the propane. It burns cleanly and fully covers the thermocouple which glows red as it should.

The gas pipe inlet ports are located on the bottom left as you face the heater. I ran my 1/2" black pipe to the left of the heater which allowed for a gentle "s" type curve of the flex pipe. I also purchased the Mr. Heater F271239 One-Stop Universal Gas-Appliance Hook-Up Kit which has everything you will need (except a gas pressure tap which is optional as long as you know your line pressure is in spec.)

The temperature sensing bulb is on the back of the heater very close to the bottom edge. Being on the back, you should be aware of the temperature of the wall you are mounting the heater to. I needed to mount one of my units on a cement wall which constantly radiates cool air during the winter. To minimize excessive and false thermostat turn-on, I insulated the wall behind the heater with 1" hard board insulation then used 2x4 pieces to stand the heater off the wall. So far, so good.

Summary:

The unit burns cleanly with a perfect blue flame and It puts out a good amount of heat for the modest size of the flame area. I liked the heater so much that I purchased a second one and will now be able to run the entire winter with the oil burner off.

Good luck and stay warm!

I am somewhat knowledgeable about weather stations and I found that for under $40 the Ambient Weather WS-1170 is a great buy. I found that temperature, humidity, and barometer all had accurate readings. It uses a frequency of 433MHz that doesn't interfere my other wireless stuff.

I made a video review if you want to see it.

AT LAST, an indoor-outdoor weather station that is simple to set up, easy to re-program if you choose, easy to read, and reliable. And it costs much less than the other brands that I tried and discarded. I tried a Lacrosse wireless weather station and ended up throwing it out. It was an engineering nightmare whose set-up was so complicated and counter-intuitive that it was impossible without the instructions. And it needed to be set-up anew everytime you changed the batteries. Heaven help you if you lost the instructions! The Oregon weather station required specialized tools. I have a lot of optical equipment with screwdrivers of all kinds and sizes, but none worked. I sent the Oregon station back. The set-up of the Ambient is simple and intuitive, with almost everything being done for you. All you need is a standard philips screwdriver. Basically, insert the batteries and it does the rest. Re-setting is simple. The Ambient display is also clear and easy to read. Not so the Lacrosse. Others make the same complaint about the Oregon. The Ambient weather station actually works, and that tells you everything you need to know. The fact that it is much cheaper, delivery is timely, Ambient keeps you informed about the packgage's whereabouts, and confirms delivery are all pleasant extras. Good to find a company at last that treats customers as if they actually matter.

Best Deals on Ambient Weather WS-1171 Wireless Advanced Weather Station

Overall, a good buy, and at a good price ($30). I agree with the preceding Reviewers about most things, but not all. I am generally very happy with the WS-1170 Unit, but I did not find it so intuitive to set up, and had a couple of problems following the fairly complete, but tiny-print user Guide. One was that I had to guess at the number to enter to set my Time Zone for the Clock (I think I guessed -9 for the Pacific Time Zone -and I lucked out). The other one related to setting the date it was clear (in retrospect), but just not intuitive to me at the time. I did not fuss with any of the many Alarms settings.

The unit clearly displays everything you want to know about your Inside & Outdoor Weather, tendencies & time. I find that if I prop it up completely vertically (the built-in Stand is set to hold it at an angle), the display info looks darker and is much easier to read (to me anyway).

I had big discrepancies between my In & Outdoor Humidity readings when I kept the Outdoor Sensor and the Display Unit indoors to try to validate the readings. I figured that everything should be the same as long as I kept a 10 foot separation between the Units in the same Room. Not so. Apparently, Humidity is a tough one, and also varies between Indoors and Outdoors.

I also set the Ambient beside my older, and much larger, La Crosse Weather Station to compare results, and they were very close. I agree with the others that the La Crosse Units are a "bear" (term substituted) to deal with for both setup and when the batteries need to be replaced, but (unlike the other Reviewers) otherwise I have been very satisfied with my La Crosse.

I was very impressed with Ambient's excellent, fast delivery of the Unit, and even more impressed with the support from them both via E-mail and by Phone. For starters, it's been a long time since I've been told that I was a "valued Customer", and Reviewer Mele confirms that finding also. Ambient's Ed persevered (promptly and helpfully) with me through several E-mails and a Phone contact even offering to replace the Unit--which I declined.

I told him that Outdoor Humidity was the least of the information I wanted about the Outdoors, and the other 3 Measurements were validated as correct. The Heinz variety of other Settings and Alarms don't really interest me much, so I did not bother with them and cannot report. I also noticed that the Barometer is more responsive to changes than my La Crosse Unit, but have to admit that sometimes I'd like to know the Wind speed. Well, for 30 bucks, why not? But overall, it has more than I need, and I am another buyer who really likes it!

Update: 9/21/10 Highly recommend downloading the Manual available at their Web Site. At the very least it contains the Table for adjusting your Time Zone which is missing from the Manual in the Box. My Wild Guess turned out to be off by 1 Time Zone. Also it gives you a chance to get a larger Print version.

Honest reviews on Ambient Weather WS-1171 Wireless Advanced Weather Station

This is my first experience with Ambient Weather products and I have been extremely satisfied. The indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity, and pressure readings have been consistently accurate. Setting up the outdoor sensor was straightforward and went exactly according to the instructions. (sensor placed about 30ft from the unit)

The atomic time took a day or so to sync initially but has been working consistently since then.

A minor issue was the screws for the sensor mount were not the greatest (heads stripped while mounting) and I replaced them with some of my own, but that was my fault for being impatient and not predrilling the mounting holes.

As far as day-to-day performance goes, I have been checking temperature, humidity, and pressure against nearby (a few blocks away) weather underground readings on a daily basis and it tracks extremely well.

Humidity is probably the most variable. As indicated in the instructions, the humidity can be off at the high end (above 85% or so) but I dont consider this to be a big deal since the only time that occurs is when there is actual precipitation. Under conditions of near or actual precipitation, I find it can be off by around 10% in the 70-80% range, but this is measured against weather underground readings which are likely to be subject to local variation during actual precipitation anyway, so I cant really determine the actual inaccuracy of the sensor under those conditions.

The low end seems pretty good. Right now it is getting very cold and dry in the northeast and the difference in personal comfort between 15% and 30% indoor humidity is pretty significant, so having accurate report in that range has been very useful.

Temperature both indoor and outdoor has been spot on. I have another indoor temperature/clock unit (La Crosse Wt-8005U-B) and it is within about 0.2 degrees. When I initially set it up I noticed a discrepancy of about 1.5 degrees F and was a bit concerned, but I realized that I was comparing against the temperature reading from the La Crosse unit across the room. When I brought them together they were consistent and I realized that the difference was real and I actually had a significant temperature gradient in the room due to a nearby outside door. Score one for the WS-1170.

As for pressure, there is a relative pressure adjustment that needs to be made on setup to account for local altitude, but after that it has been very accurate, again as measured against weather underground values (within about 0.1%)

Some people have complained about the pressure tracking graph, but I like it. I have the unit mounted on a highly visible kitchen wall that gets a lot of nearby traffic and the animated graph is not the slightest bit distracting, but I imagine that is a matter of personal tastes.

A pleasant surprise has been the basic weather prediction feature that has been unexpectedly accurate. I wouldnt rely on it over more comprehensive meteorological predictions, but it has been fun to see how well it does based on simple pressure changes. If I had to use it in a pinch, say at a cabin without internet access, I would be about 70% confident that the predictions would be right to within a day or two.

Even the storm alert feature works well (although it is generally telling you something that you could have deduced by just sticking your head out the door)

Overall, I would highly recommend this. Great price, great product. It performs as advertised and has managed to even exceed my expectations.

I'm not exactly a weatherphile, but I like to know where the barometer is headed, and what the humidity levels are outdoors. It seemed like all of the weather stations in this price range only told me indoor humidity, which I could not care less about. This one does exactly what I need it to do, and looks nice on the wall. Numbers are large enough to read easily. I recommend watching the video review another user posted, because I hadn't realized the pressure chart at the bottom constantly reanimated itself. It isn't a problem, but you should be aware of it in case you plan to mount it somewhere that a scrolling graph might be distracting.

I also like that the outdoor sensor has a digital readout of temp and humidity, so if you're just outdoors and curious, you can take a look instead of going inside.

If you are reading this, odds are your GE Profile fridge is quite warm on a Sunday night. You are desperately trying to figure out what's wrong. This board may solve your problems. It is a recalled part so you may be able to get it from GE for free. After what we went through, I hope amazon leaves this review up as a service to their customers. In return, the customers can spend their money on other amazon items.

The problem was as follows. We have a GE Profile fridge, Model PSC23NGSA (from 2005) with the vertical side by side doors. (I think these are called "French doors".) Neither the fridge or the freezer was staying cool. The fridge was making a clicking

sound. Opening the doors, the display on the front was flashing "HRS".

We did some basic troubleshooting. Put the food into coolers to try and save it as well as clear the vents. We unplugged and plugged the fridge back in. We made sure it was not in demo mode. The thermostat had been replaced in the past so that rules that out.

Doing some web searches showed that this has happened to others as well. The original board was recalled by GE on November 7, 2006. There was a letter that was sent out to technicians about this but not to customers. We called GE at 18003861215, option 3. We stated what the refrigerator was doing. We brought up the recall and stated we wanted this part.

Initially, GE was going to ship the part out in 3-5 days. My wife ordered them to overnight it. With President's Day, we got it the following day due to the post office.

Installing it was fairly straightforward for me. Below are the steps I used. Your experience may be different.

Tools required: socket wrench, SAE socket set, needle nose pliers, light

Steps:

Unplug fridge from wall outlet

Move it to where you can get at cover plate

Remove cover plate using the socket wrench

Make a diagram or take pictures of which connectors went to what locations on the board

Unplug connectors. You may have to use the pliers.

Remove old board. It rests on these plastic standoffs

Put in new board

Plug in connectors into new board.

Move fridge back in to place

Plug into wall outlet

I found a parts diagram online. If you've ever swapped a motherboard in a computer, you can definitely do this. The instructions will walk you through it. If you have the model with the freezer on the bottom, one would cut some wires before installing. The instructions go over that as well. After you are done installing the board, it will take about 2 to 3 hours to get back cool. This even in an empty fridge.

I've had it installed for just over a week now. The fridge is back in service. My wife says the freezer seems to be colder. Overall, frustrating, but resolved now. Hopefully this will help someone else out there.

I got a free main board replacement PN: WR55X10942 on Aug 22, 2012. The customer service person was aware of the main board issues and asked for my model and serial number refrigerator to see if it was covered. My fridge is a stainless steel 25 cubic foot side by side, model GSH25JSRF SS with a ship date of Mar 2006. I was informed that the main board was covered, but because it was outside of the 5 year replacement period I was told that the board would be provided free and that I would be responsible for the $100 service call to replace it. I am a mechanical/electrical engineer and feel very comfortable replacing the board myself (as should anyone reading this) I told the GE representative that I have read several posts on the internet where people have opted out of the service call and installed the board themselves. I asked to opt out of the $100 service call and fee, requested them to ship the board to my house, and told him that I would install it myself.

The board could not be any easier to install just 2 screws to remove the cover on my model and 5 or so connectors to remove and plug in on the new board. Here is a how to install it on a different model fridge

My fridge had the following symptoms:

The Water dispenser stopped working and would not dispense water about 4 months ago (this is related to the main board from what I have read)

A week ago the fridge would start clicking with a frequency of about 1 click per second for hours on end until the compressor kicked in and the unit ran. This cycle repeats every few hours. During this clicking I noticed the interior refrigerator lights dim, a weird buzzing sound coming from the box in the top left side of the fridge (defroster unit?) and the fan for the condenser would jerk and turn about 10 degrees, and the compressor and condenser cooling fan would not run. The clicking seemed to be coming from relay largest relay on the board. The relay is manufactured by Omron and has a part number G8P-1C4P. It has a 12VDC coil and a NO ( normally open) contact rating of 20A and 250V.

During my google searches attempting to find the root cause of this mode of failure, so I could attempt to fix the board on my own, I found this letter advising technicians of the main board recall. It was sent from the National Service Manager, Richard Zutterman, dated Nov 7 2006In my google searches, calling home depot, and calling GE I had about six 1-800 phone numbers to call. I decided to try and call the National Service Manager Rickard in the above mentioned letter and got his voicemail. On his voicemail he asks people calling about the main board issue to call 1-800-749-6629. He must hate that people posted that letter on the internet. I called that number. Several people on the internet have commented that GE customer service was very good. I was shocked because dealing with them over my front load washing machine back in 2007 was a nightmare. I work with a lot of very bitchy ladies that had to take customer service training as a department in response to complaints from other departments in the company that had to work with them. I am happy to report that my interactions with the GE customer service today were "A+" quality. It could not have been any better and I am being very critical about that.

I think our customer service consultant would agree, the GE customer service person I talked to was outstanding.....simply perfect. I am not just saying that because I got a free board.....but it does help I got exactly what I wanted.

If you have a dishwasher manufactured between Dec 2006 and 2010 then do not call GE about it to see if it is under recall. It is locking up their phone lines right now (I was on hold for 20-30 mins) go to

Best Deals on GE WR55X10942 Refrigerator Main Control Board

My 2 year old bottom freezer refrigerator started to have the classic symptoms, not always cooling, one second clicking sound when not cooling. Some times the refrigerator cooled but not the freezer part. Sometimes neither part cooled while the fridge started to click. (Clicking is from relay noise).

I ordered this universal board for my fridge from Amazon.com. I took advantage of the FREE shipping. It arrived quickly in a timely fashion. It was a sealed GE factory board and not a brand X board. First class! The board came with clear instructions to be used for your particular refrigerator.

In my case, I removed the small rear panel on the back side of the fridge to expose the board. You then unplug the fridge, pull out the connector plugs from the board, remove the ground wire under a screw, remove the board off of 4 plastic standoff spacers, install the new board onto the spacers and then plug in all the wire connectors onto the new board. My new board had many more parts on it then the old board. You cannot plug the wrong connector into a wrong socket. Each connector has a different number of pins on it so any one plug will fit into only one socket.

In some cases a wire needs to be cut on one of the plugs per the instructions, but for my model this was not neccessary. Also, for BOTTOM FREEZER refridgerators, you need to take the lower panel off exposing the compressor and check if you have a start capacitor on your fridge. (The diagram shows you where the start capacitor would be located if you have one). If you have one, you need to cut a ground wire off a plug. In my case no wire needed to be cut as I had no start capacitor on my fridge. In short all I had to do was to swap out boards on the fridge and then put the panels back in place with screws.

For tools I needed a Phillips screw driver, but to remove the old board a pair of needle nose plyers helped removing the old board off the stand off legs as they needed to be squeezed before the board could be lifted off the standoffs one at a time. There are 4 plastic standoff legs holding the board in place. I didn't need to cut any wires but if you did need to cut one or two a small wire cutter would be handy. Otherwise a pocket knife would do the job.

If you follow the clear instructions you won't make a mistake. In my case I could replace the board again now that I did it once in less then 5 minutes. Doing it the first time, so you don't mistake, should take you no more the 15 to 20 minutes being very careful.

One last thing, THE BOARD FIXED THE REFRIGERATOR! (Please understand after reoplacing the board and turning the fridge on again, once plugging it back into the wall, will require hours of operation before the fridge and freezer are cold enough to turn the compressor off. In my case, with an empty fridge, I got tired of waiting to see if it would turn off after three hours of operation watching it. When I checked the next day, it was cold and not running. Everything was working just fine. It took a long time before it shut off even when the fridge was empty. (So be patient).

You can do the repair yourself and save a lot of money! The part from Amazon cost about half the list price of the board, no tax, and I also saved the cost of the repairman's labor. In my case I had actually called a repairman, two weeks later he had the board but never showed up on his appointment. I fired him and did the job myself quicker and for less money.

Had a problem with my GE fridge, not cooling and acting erratic. After some online research pinpointed the problem to this board..... Ordered from Amazon. Received part faster than expected and as described in the listing it was a Brand New Original GE part still Sealed in the box. Instructions were easily understood and installation was a snap.

Purchased a GE side-by-side refrigerator in 2007. Thing started moaning, howling and we've put up with it for 2 years. Finally pursued a fix by researching online. Turns out the main control board by the OEM (original equipment manufacturer), a subcontractor for GE, used boards that made the fan in the freezer section run at either the incorrect frequency or what I interpret as a variable frequency. Took a chance and purchased the card based on some posts on separate websites about the issue. Card was a success, easily installed with a pair of needle nose pliers and a 1/4" socket wrench. Board came double-boxed with bubble wrap as well. Official GE instructions were included. Quiet has been restored.

By the way, GE was no help in this matter. Despite seeing posts online about GE possibly providing new boards, three separate calls to GE were unfruitful. GE asked the standard questions: when did the warranty expire, did I have an extended warranty. The troubleshooting line was not prepared to perform analysis beyond the most basic of issues. The entire GE interaction was disappointing to say the least.

If you have a GE fridge and it moans or howls, consider a main circuit board replacement. Any price under $125 is an easy beat of the prices GE will offer from their own sources.

Friedrich SS08M10 -7900 BTU window air conditioner

This is my second Kuhl. I purchased the original one from M&M Appliances in Washington, DC, but took it back because it was damaged compressor ripped from the mounts and refrigerant lines bent and the backup battery was dead on arrival. Second unit seems to be in much better condition. It was not damaged and the backup battery is not dead. Friedrich also mailed me a new backup battery (see their website for the form to fill out for a free battery).

Installation was a bit time consuming and required more tools than you'd expect for a window a/c install. The hardware that comes with the unit is excellent. It is sturdy and well built. Installation is definitely intended to be semi-permanent. I will not be removing this unit every winter like I have with previous window units.

Unit cools very well and is very quiet when compared to bargain brands at many stores. Discharge air temperature with R410a seems to be lower than most previous air conditioners that use R22. Depending on temperature and humidity in the room, the unit will sometimes blow visible fog from the vents.

This air conditioner is very well built. Sound dampening could have been increased the unit makes a bit more noise than I'd like for the premium price tag. Friedrich should consider insulating the compressor in order to keep noise down. Compressor makes an oscillating sound at a frequency of about 2 3 hertz. Fan noise is minimal, which I attribute to the large vent design. The most irritating sound is the water splashing on the condenser fan. This problem could be solved by more sound insulation or by a condensate drain (although I understand that the condensate splashing on the condenser increases efficiency). Still -VERY QUIET when compared to most alternatives.

All features work well except for the auto fan mode (energy saver), which cycles the fan too frequently to "test the air temperature." I leave it set for continuous mode, which I prefer anyway. I do have a gripe about the remote control it doesn't sync with the unit's control panel, so if you make a change on the unit and then go to the remote, the remote still has its previous settings. Would be nice if the remote was RF instead of IR so that it didn't have to be pointed at the unit and it could auto-sync whenever settings are changed at the unit.

If you buy one of these, definitely read the instructions. Some parts of the install are not intuitive, and there are many features that you'll want to familiarize yourself with.

Some people have complained that the unit does not display the accurate temperature. This can be adjusted under the *temperature offset (TO)* section of the menu, along with a number of other settings.

I hope to get many years of trouble free use out of this unit.

PROS:

Sleek design with optional front cover colors

7 day scheduler

Great customer service

11.7 SEER, great efficiency for a window unit

CONS:

I just have no idea why this A/C costs $800. Rich (read pretentious) look apart I haven't found a single advantage over an A/C with the comparable output you can pick up in a home improvement store for $150.

I was looking for a single most important for me function a quiet operation and I was willing to pay 6-X price for it. Good thing I decided to test it before putting in into the window. When running "fan only", it makes reasonable noise, not much quieter than a "regular" cheap A/C. The disappointing part there is only 3 fan speeds, no variable speed and/or super-quiet mode.

But when I switched it in cooling mode and the compressor kicked in, I literally jumped first the loud click and then the droning noise, so loud I thought I dropped a screw driver into the fan. After a few second the sound went down a little but it still was way over the acceptable level, and definitely louder than a cheap A/C makes. I thought the unit was defective, the dealer sent a technician, who told me that's the normal operational sound. Now I just hope the dealer won't give me a hard time when I return the A/C.

So for the price of 6 regular A/Cs you will have:

bulky heavy unit, requiring quite laborious installation process

lack of important features like variable fan speed and super quiet night mode

bunch of bells and whistles you most likely won't care about, like 7 days programming and external thermostat connector

a lot of noise

very nice looking front panel and ipod-styled remote.

You decide, but I'm returning mine.

The compressor makes a loud throbbing noise which makes it too noisy for a bedroom. The unit is also heavy & bulky, which made installation difficult. Other than that it cools well, but so do a lot of less expensive, smaller, equally noisy a/c's.

I make yogurt at home everyday and we as a family eat yogurt 2 times a day at the end of each meal( lunch and dinner). Its a south indian thing... I made yogurt at home perfectly well at home all summer without the yogurt maker....but the weather in winter at the place where i live gets really cold and even with heat on at home...i was not able to make good yogurt. Then at last i purchased this yogurt maker. This works perfectly. I do the exact same thing with my milk that i used to do before, bring it to boil, cool it down till its just luke warm and then mix some yogurt from the previous day into it as culture and keep it into this yogurt maker and turn it on...and next morning i have perfect yogurt.

This yogurt maker comes with 4 , 5 ounce jars. These too worked out great for me. I make different kinds of yogurt now everyday in these jars. yogurt with whole milk for my kids and yogurt with fat free milk for myself and husband. I also purchased on big bowl from walmart that fits perfectly into this yogurt maker...for days when I need more yogurt when we have ppl over and stuff...and it makes more than 1/2 litre of yogurt......

I usually let the milk sit in the maker for 6 hours to make sweet/non-sour perfect yogurt for daily consumption. But when i need sour yogurt for some dish ( like rava idli) and stuff I let it sit for 8 -10hrs and it works out great.

It consumes very less power, this device comsumes only 11 watts and so haven't seen any noticeable difference in my electric bill too..

this maker makes good yogurt. and the design is compact and looks good. it doesn't take much space at all while sitting on the counter. and the BPA free glass jars even make this model more awesome!

i would definitely recommend this yogurt maker to singles or small family who don't actually require big amount of yogurt daily/weekly.

Makes good yogurt...now. On first try I used Trader Joe's 2% milk and Greek Gods plain yogurt as starter, used the amount suggested in the instructions, 1/2 cup i think. I heated the milk & cooled down beforehand, left in for 8 hours. Result was runny & inconsistent setting, inedible and too sour. Second try I used Strauss Family 2% milk and two generous tablespoons of Fage plain, heated/cooled milk beforehand, plus put a paper towel in the machine, under the jars. (I suspect the floor of the machine gets too hot for cultures to survive, don't need too much starter). Result was perfect yogurt after 8 hours, thick & creamy even without straining. Very happy esp since Amazon price was only $18 for new.

I chose this one since it was the perfect size for me since I'm single. The instructions say to use 1/2 c plain yogurt or starter, 4 cups of milk, and 1/4c to 1/2 c instant non fat dry milk powder. I didn't do that. First off, the 4 cups of milk is way too much and will not fit in the glass containers.

I used 3 cups of organic, ultra pasteurized(UHT) milk and about 1 1/2 Tbsp of Fage 2% plain Greek yogurt. If you use UHT milk you don't have to parboil. I wasn't thrilled about using nonfat dry milk so I left that out. Came out perfect for my tastes. I pulled out two at about 7 hours and the other 2 after about 15 hours. I didn't notice a huge difference in tartness but the consistency for the ones that stayed in longer was a tiny bit thicker. I mostly use yogurt for smoothies so I don't need it to be very thick. The consistency reminds me of yogurt you can get in Europe or Asia. Next time I may try using a full fat, organic Greek yogurt as a starter and see how it comes out. I also saw a recipe that uses 2 c milk and only 2 tsps of yogurt as a starter. I just got this yesterday so I'm still in the testing stages but I totally love it so far and would recommend this to anyone!
