I grow, literally, 50 or so different varieties of herbs of all sorts, from the common place to the exotic. Drying them was always a process, and I always seemed to lose them to mold, mildew, or those that I kept were brown and unattractive looking. Then, as a gift, my husband bought me this dehydrator because he was told it'd dry herbs.

This little gadget has turned into just about the most important gadget I have in my kitchen. It's practically in-use everyday from May to November, dehydrating everything from my precious herbs, to apples, tomatoes, jerky, and all manner of fruit and flower. This dehydrator has literally saved me hundreds of dollars, not only because I can make my own jerky, fruit roll-ups, and dried fruits for everything from trail mix to healthy snacks, but because vegetables from the garden that were left to rot because we couldn't otherwise keep them (and there wasn't enough to can) are now being saved, and every last one of my herbs, even some which didn't take to being dried the "traditional way," are easily preserved. I can even buy in-season fruits and veggies in bulk and dehydrate them, saving me even more money!

This gadget dries everything very quickly and efficiently, so everything really retains its color. I've found myself drying everything from rose petals to bee balm flowers (and all sorts of other flowers that couldn't previously be dried) for use in sachets, potpourri, and carpet deodorizers. My red and purple rose petals stay red and purple, and my herbs keep their emerald-green color, something I'd never keep with conventional drying. I'm really impressed that a dehydrator that is gentle enough to dry herbs is also rugged enough to make jerky and apple chips. Unlike other dehydrators I've seen, this particular one allows you to custom set the temperatures, ensuring that whatever you dry is dried at the temperature most conducive to effective and attractive drying. There's been more than once where I dry a batch of herbs, then after a quick scrubbing, my husband sets it up to dry jerky, which is just awesome. The little booklet full of recipes and drying times that accompanies this dehydrator ensures that even if you've never seen a dehydrator before, you can still use this one almost right out of the box.

Our dehydrator comes with a fruit-rollup attachment, which I'll admit we only have used once, but it appeared to work very well. I will also admit we saved a few dollars by buying some door screen from a hardware store, and cutting it to the size of our dehydrator racks, saving quite a bit of money on the "Clean-A-Screen" which is offered as an optional attachment. It's also nice that this dehydrator is quieter than your average stove fan or air conditioner, so it's not loud at all. If the TV is on, I can't even hear it. My only real complaint with this dehydrator is that it doesn't have an "on/off" switch, so to turn it on and off, you have to plug and unplug it. For people who don't have a lot of power outlets our outlets that are hard to reach, I'd imagine this is a hassle.

I have to say, this tool is a must-have for any cook or gardener. I know my culinary ambitions have always stretched beyond my wallet, but with this I can make my own "sun dried tomatoes" and keep my own exotic herbs, saving not only a chunk of change and using everything in my garden, but also really dressing up my meals for super cheap. My friends have wondered just how I do it. :D I dare say, this is almost more useful than my canner, since I can save a garden harvest of any size, and still make use of them in jams, jellies, sauces, and meals... This product is a must have!

I love my new Nesco FD-60 dehydrator. My first month I probably spent $300 in fruit and meat trying all sorts of recipes and fruit-roll mixture.

However I recommend buying from Walmart. Their price is about $45. Also, I wouldn't recommend buying expansion trays because 4 trays cost about $30 but a new dehydrator for $45 includes 4 trays and a fruit roll sheet (>$4 value)plus the usefullness of a backup or second dehydtation unit.

That aside, beef jerky, dried fruits and homemade fruit rolls are wonderful and easy with this unit. Much better IMHO than using the oven (safer, faster, more cost effiecient).

This is the second food dehydrator I have owned, and I must say that this one is a great investment and value. My other machine was a lower priced model from another company, and takes longer to work. This machine is quiet and fast. The beef jerky recipe is great, or you can buy the optional jerky gun from Nesco and use their mix packets. About 3 LBS of ground beef and the jerky gun will fill this machine and be done in about 4 hours. I have made about 12 batches over the past year with this machine, and it is reliable and consistent. Unless you do tons of fruit or jerky, buying a larger model is just not worth it. For the causual user like me, this is the best model. Dishwasher safe clean up of trays as well (takes some maneuvering though to fit them in).

My husband and I were spending about $30 a month on beef jerky snacks for him to take to work. I have only owned this product for one day but I have made 1/2 lb of jerky which is amazing, dried apples, strawberries, bananas, and I am currently making fruit roll ups for the kids. I did buy the gun to make life easier and soon plan to make my own slim jims as soon as the roll up are done. The dried food is amazing and tastes better than any store bought dehydrated food. The package said that the jerky would take 4-15 hours but I pulled half out at 5 and the other half at 6 AND 5 hour batch tasted a lot better than the 6hour batch. The fruit said 6-12 hours and it took closer to 10 1/2. I did pull out some of the fruit at 8 hours to feed to my one year old as I do not want it too leathery for her. This machine is a huge hit at our house and we look forward to making more stuff. Oh yeah we bought it at walmart for $48.88 sorry Amazon. Thanks for the reviews though!

Great little dehydrator. Four large apples sliced fill up the four trays. The noise is a little louder than expected. Sounds like an exhaust fan. I fill my dehydrator in the kitchen and then move it to the laundry room due to white noise sound. Adjustable temperature great feature but would have liked a timer that would turn off in my absence. I've used this dehydrator to dry tomatoes, apples, kale chips, flaxseed crackers, peppers, and sweet potatoes. The drying times seem quick enough if using the suggested temperature per manufacturer. Takes a long time if using temperatures at 115 degrees or lower for raw food recipes.

I purchased this product after reading several positive, if not quite rave, reviews. I was particularly interested in the ability to regulate the temperature using the thermostat. I was using it to supplement the heat in a large bedroom at my parents home in Chicago during this past, particularly cold, winter.

Set up instructions were adequate. I attached the legs and the casters, re-read the precautions about placement in the room, plugged it in and turned it on. It immediately began heating up. Greatly encouraged, I set the thermostat, stayed in the room for a while and, deciding it was like watching and waiting for a pot of water to boil, I left the room. I waited about 25 minutes and then went back into the room to see how much it had heated the room. I was surprised to find the indicator light on the heater off and no heat being emitted. The room was still very chilly.

I turned the thermostat up thinking that would start the heater again.... nothing.

I turned it to the off position and then on again.... nothing.

I turned the thermostat to it's highest possible temperature setting.... nothing.

I tried turning it on and off at both heat level wattage settings.... nothing.

I unplugged it and replugged it and turned it on again... nothing.

I checked to be sure it had not tripped the circuit breaker.... it had not.

I unplugged it, waited a while longer to see if, after completely cooling down, it would start again... nothing.

Simply put, this product just stopped working within an hour of first plugging it in.

I sent it back to Amazon for a refund, drove over to Home Depot and bought a portable heater that their manager recommended. It worked just fine.

I ordered this product to supplement the heating in our 5th wheel RV, especially at night. Sorry folks but it doesn't cut it. It is 29 outside and now only 63 only a few inches in front of and above the heater. I was hoping for more but I got less. Such is life.

I have had this heater for a month-and-a-half, and I am very pleased with it. I had hoped it would heat the whole area (a basement apartment-in-progress), which it does not. But what it does do is to heat whatever/whoever is in front of it. It feels like sitting in front of a fireplace! Toasty warm, although it does limit how far away from it you can get. Before getting the Optimus H-8408, I had a different type of heater that was also rated for large rooms. IT DID NOTHING, except make a lot of noise (fan-forced type heater). The Optimus is SILENT, and good value for the money. Don't expect it to work miracles, especially if it is your ONLY source of heat, but it certainly has kept me happy through January and the first half of February in an unfinished basement!

Quiet, rotates, auto on and off thermostat, advertises to operate with in 2 degrees above or 1 below set temp. After 3 days of operation it is performing perfectly. Simple assembly of base with 2 self threading screws and 4 machine screw. Could not be simpler or more stable. Instructions and parts matched and easy to understand. Suggest you do not unwind cord until after base is on. Not my first Lasko product and won't be my last; I am happy.

This is a great heater with all the convenient features I wanted. Easy to assemble, works fine and everything about it is just a warm breeze. Had to order a second one and overall, I have four Lasko heaters in my house and they all work great. No complaints.

This heater moves a decent amount of warm air, fairly quiet and efficient, but struggles to take off a serious chill in our large bedroom. Works great in the smaller office room though. This is the second Lasko tower-type we've owned, the last one died after 5 years. Not a bad looking product, pretty good quality. I would probably buy it again for a good, basic heater.

This is the second one of these we bought. The first one from Amazon. The nice thing about this one that we didn't find with other units is you can set the exact temperature from 40* on up. All the other units we tried would start at 60* and go up in 5* increments. We heat our house with wood and our laundry room and one of the bathrooms don't get much heat. So we put one of these in the laundry room and set the temp at 55* mainly to keep the pipes from freezing. The other is in the bathroom left at 60* to keep it somewhat comfortable in there. When we go into use the bath raise the temp to 70* or 75* and it doesn't take long at all to heat the room up. Nice comfortable heat.

I am a tea drinker and I find this appliance to be very useful. I drink green, oolong and pu-erh tea pretty much every day. I keep this little guy on a book shelf in my room where it is at a perfect height for me lift it up and set it down.

The temperature control knob is designed as a general guideline, and I love that boiling water isn't its' sole function. I mean, I drink green and oolongs too, so to boil water and wait is misused energy. It shuts off after reaching the desired temperature. I tweak the knob personally, as it is just a guideline.

Yes, the knob and kettle switch are not made of steel. They are in fact plastic. So please, don't start wrestling with your tea kettle. I know it's fun to use and it looks like a spaceship, but no wrestling...

If you combine this with a Brita filter, you have two of the best investments for tea for the rest of you life. It is wise to use filtered water in this utilitea, otherwise you risk calcification and other mineral build up on the interior of the kettle. The buildup can diffuse into the water and changing the taste of whatever you brew.

Although the lid retains a plastic smell even after some months of use, it DOES NOT adulterate the water. If it did, I would have returned it instantly...

In conclusion, the ease of use, aesthetics, temperature control and reliability give this 5 stars. I'm someone who uses this everyday, I can say it significantly streamlined my lifetea is a large part of it!

I also recommend for the coffee drinkers using a French press.

This kettle fills a long-time need in the electric kettle marketplace -one with a variable temperature control! For those who are real tea appreciators, you will appreciate finally having an electric kettle that allows you different temperature settings for your different kinds of tea.

Other great features are that it heats the water quickly, in under 5 minutes. It has an automatic shut-off when it reaches the set temperature. It will not boil dry (I haven't tested this feature, but the literature claims it to be true). It looks sleek and modern sitting on your countertop with its stainless steel and black stylings as compared to the white plastic electric kettles of yore. It also has the convenient design feature of the cord coiling into the base, so you only have to pull out as much as you need to reach your outlet.

I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for a couple of reasons. Most importantly, because it gets hot hot hot to the touch. Be careful, or you will burn yourself. Make sure to only touch the plastic parts, which isn't always so easy. Secondarily, because the temperature control knob and the on/off switch are made of flimsy plastic -the rest of it is well made, but the second time I pushed the on/off switch it popped off! Luckily, it is easily re-attachable.

I am glad someone finally put one of these out on the market!

The UtiliTEA is an excellent electric tea kettle-it's comes in two parts, the base and the kettle. The base plugs in, the kettle rests on top of it. Fill it with (up to four cups) of water, fit the kettle on the base, set the dial to the desired temperature, flip the switch and moments later, you've got hot water when the switch pops back up. I've used mine endlessly since I've gotten it.

A few gripes though, the UtiliTEA's temperature gauge is color coded rather than providing any kind of numeric indication and the manual. It's easy to use, but if you needed precision (and I don't), you won't be able to get it. More irritating is no real audible indication that it's done-the lever clicks, but there's no whistle, bell or anything else you'll notice in the other room. Good news is, it's really fast, even to bring water to a boil. A final thing I dislike-there's no "off" switch on the base and they recommend pulling the power cord between uses. I'm not certain whether it's unsafe to leave it plugged in, but I keep pulling the plug after every use which is quite honestly annoying. Mind you, I'm a new homeowner, I'm a little paranoid about such things.

I realize my criticism is pretty harsh-the UtiliTEA does its core competencies fantastically, and I've used this exclusively as my water heating solution, but while it's an excellent device, any potential buyer should be aware of its limitations.

I got this unit to compliment my aeropress coffee maker which is best used with water below boiling. The unit is sleek and works well. However mine came with a leaking gasket in the front plastic window that shows the pots fill volume. I got the paperwork that comes with the unit and saw that it had a 90 day warranty. So i politely contacted the manufacturer...3 times. Never heard back. So I turned to Amazon and they were helpful but I can't get a full refund. So I am out of pocket for a defective unit and the manufacturer is non responsive to warranty claims. Also I don't have time to run to the post office or re-package it. I never write product reviews really (time being the factor again) but I was sufficiently disappointed with the way this whole scenario went to let everyone know. All I wanted was a cup of coffee once a day.

Electric kettles are an appliance where Americans are behind the curve compared to the rest of the world. In Europe and Asia, they've been well established on the kitchen counter for ages. They are portable, efficient and just handy. In the last decade they've been more and more popular in the US as well, but its been hard to find kettles that have impressed.

Well color me impressed.

The Adagio kettle has a few features I like:

1. Temperature Control: I list this first, because its a rare feature. Green teas are quite popular, but most people who drink them don't know they are generally supposed to be steeped at a lower temperature than black teas and herbal teas. (~180 degrees vs 215 degrees). So while you can just boil up some water for your standard breakfast tea, you'd be 'overcooking' a green tea if you steep it with such hot water. Why spend all that money on good tea, and for some people even more on a nice tea set if you don't prepare the tea to bring out its best flavors. The Adagio has a very simple knob with two 'zones', one for green teas, and the other for black/herbal teas. As simple as it can get. My only quibble is a wish they had a numbers for the gauge as well so I can see the exact temperature rather than go by their judgement.

2. Stainless steel: I've had plastic electric kettles in the past. They tend to suffer from two problems. First, they smell of plastic and leech plastics into the boiling water (even after the smell goes away.) More and more studies are showing our bodies have lots of environmental chemicals in them. Why not take a simple precaution to avoid adding more? Secondly, the plastic kettles just don't seem durable. I had one at the office where one piece of plastic fell off and into the pot melting to the heating element. I was just glad it didn't end up starting a fire.

3. 360degree base. A good # of kettles have to be 'fit' onto the base with a specific facing. The Adagio can be put back on its base without that. Its a small issue, but both ergonomically and aesthetically I prefer the ease of it.

I do feel it can be a bit slower than prior kettles I've had to heat water, but then I see less 'flicker' of the lights when its turned on or turned off, so I suspect its slightly lower wattage. This is fine, it works speedily enough and faster than a stovetop kettle still.

Really its just a nice solid kettle, that doesn't have the worries of chemicals from plastic, that can allow you to properly prepare green teas and black teas, and looks quite nice. Now to see how long it lasts with regular usage.

From what I've seen so far though I heartily recommend it.

Good News:

Does not seem to be a gimmick fridge, it is truly a fridge because my cokes were indeed ICE COLD!!!

Bad News:

It buzzes and it breathes. Think of Darth Vader! Yes, that type of breathing sound! It is weird to say the least. I think it's good for a game room where you won't be sleeping, but if you're thinking about bedroom, FORGET IT! There is no break, no cycling as others have mentioned. For some reason, mine is a constant buzz, constant breathing. Maybe it's because I have the setting at "COOLEST," but why wouldn't you want your cokes to be as cold as can be?

A WORD ABOUT THE PACKAGING AND DELIVERY:

Now Amazon has pulled this product and I know exactly why since I bought it. It's kinda funny actually. It's shipped to you in it's retail box. Meaning they do not put it inside a real shipping box. They do put one of those plastic ribbons around it. There was only 1 ribbon! They didn't bother to secure it with a second cross ribbon. Anyway, shipping without a brown shipping box isn't anything out of the ordinary. Heck, my recent drill press from Amazon was shipped that way. It's not good if you live in a bad area and you're not home, and people can clearly see a brand spanking new Coke Fridge on your porch. However, that's not the problem. Once I was able to drag the box inside my house and I was lifting by the plastic ribbon, it was starting to slide to one side. Good thing it did not slide off!!! Because once inside the house, I cut the ribbon with a scissor, but I decided I needed to move the box to another room. I bend down to grab the box by its left and right side squatting like a weightlifter, when I got up the box felt very light. The fridge was still on the floor!! LOL! They apparently cut all four sides of the bottom with an exacto knife or something. Now do you see how dangerous it was for them to only put one plastic ribbon around the box?

I don't know if the packaging is prepared this way by Nostalgia Electronics, or if this is Amazon's idea of frustration free packaging. LOL! Anyway, I'm sure this is why they have pulled the item for the time being.

I'm going to return mine due to the noise and a ding/dent I found on the side of the door fridge, probably due to the lack of real packaging. But I will package it and return it to them better than how they delivered it to me.

The item is cute and works well. People complained of noise, but I don't hear it at all over my radio (which is not loud) at work. It does keep items very cold. My complaint is the packaging. It arrived in it's original box within a packing box; however, there was no padding whatsoever. The fridge had a dent on the side and the top was scratched in a few spots. I didn't feel like packaging it back up since it keeps things cold, but I'm very annoyed that it was damaged before it even came out of the box.

Just got this tower heater today. Observations so far:

-I deducted a star because it's a bit wobbly on carpet and on ceramic tile. It's probably too heavy to tip easily, but it bears mentioning. It's quite tall. The space saving of a tower heater is perfect for my small motorhome, so I live with wobble. No idea how this could be corrected without creating unwanted bigger footprint or weight.

-I put it in a different place during the day, so the carry handle is convenient.

-It seems to be more powerful than my smaller Lasko tower heater, even though the watt settings are the same as the smaller heater. Maybe it's more efficient.

-The front definitely needs to be located a yard from any flammables, because the heat coming out is too hot to hold my hand two feet in front of it, even on low, for more than a few seconds.

-The remote is simple to use. The remote's buttons could be more differentiated for easier operation in the dark.

-The controls on the heater itself are cheesy looking, and the engraved silver-on-silver labels are difficult to read in shadow.

-I would like to have the thermostat work on the low setting. In both my Lasko towers the thermostat works only on high. Freeze or fry.

-The heat and blower can't be felt at the bottom foot or so. I can put it almost anywhere, and it won't bother the cat on the floor. The downside is that the lowest part of the room isn't heated.

-There's a clip on the back that holds the remote. It would be great for Lasko to include a second one of those cutom fitted clips to be able to attach to a wall to hang the remote near where it will actually be used.

I phoned Lasko to get some help comparing the various heaters, of which they list 19 in the tower design alone. Basically I was told I had to figure it out myself from whatever product descriptions they provided online. Fortunately Home Depot online makes an effort to help compare multiple products; although, it's limited to what they offer, of course. Both HD and Walmart carry this model, but neither had it in stock. Prices were the about the same, and I saved tax and shipping with my Prime membership by purchasing through Amazon.

I recently purchased the LASKO 5568 and liked it so much I decided to get another; wound up getting this model instead and can't say enough good things about it. The design is well conceived, solid quality construction, and very effective. Throws out a considerable amount of heat, the fan is very quiet at both high and low, and the options for operation are all useful and work well. Lasko seems to manufacture a series of these ceramic tower units and all are very well reviewed; I checked the review on bestcovery.com and this unit was rated number 1, and for good reason. I use both these heaters in larger rooms (14 X 26) with 9 ft. ceilings and they are effective in taking off the chill and keeping the room comfortable. We were looking for another space heater and a friend recommended the Lasko Ceramic Tower. We purchased a later model, and there were some improvements, such as the carring handle. It is light weight and easy to carry to different locations. It does a very good job of heating the room. We live in North West Tennessee and with the combination of another space heater, we have not used our furnace at all this year. The electric bill has dropped dramatically. My bedroom averages 56 degrees in the winter. I freeze when getting dressed or when I first get into bed. I now set the heater to 65 degrees and in no time the large bedroom is cozy even though there are cathedral ceilings. I'm sure if I wanted the room warmer the tower would bring the temperature up higher. I also like the way the Lasko 5572 oscillates. I would recommend this heater to anyone who needs to heat a room and keep it at a consistent temperature.

Just bought and received this through Amazon. A family member recommended the Lasko brand after his purchasing a few different models and sizes himself in the past three years.

After further researching different models and brands, I purchased this one because it rated highly on Amazon.com and other sites -including bestcovery.com -in the Top 5 for Best Tower, Best Large Room, and Best Oscillating.

Below I'll describe a few things to help others trying to decide....including why I was looking, features I sought, setting it up, and how it performed first two days.

WHY: I live in a cold, damp geography during winter and the home's central electric heat seems to be on all the time. Needed something for a large open living/dining/kitchen poorly insulated space on the first floor ~800 sq ft, which is typically colder.

FEATURES SOUGHT: Specifically, features I wanted and influencing my decision for this model:

--Ceramic (no open heating elements)

--Powerful ~1500 watts (for large space)

--Automatic Thermostat / Auto Temp Control (for minimal muckying around myself)

--Long Timer (8 hours)

--Timer Self Shut Off

--Oscillating (for better heat distribution)

--Remote (for use in other rooms)

--Wider/heavier at bottom than top (for better stability)

--Slim & simple design to be as inconspicuous as possible

--Simple heat fan speeds (High/Low, again for least muckying)

--Price (close to $50)

I already had a HEPA air filter/ionizer in the space, so didn't need the filter function.

Other models I compared to had shorter timers, lower wattage, smaller size, no oscillators, and/or no remote.

SET UP: Received the box undamaged, opened and set it up. At under 6 lbs, the unit was light weight enough for little ol' me to pull out of box and stand without strain. ;-)

Handle on top / back is a generous size to be able to move the unit a few inches with a single hand.

Read instructions, plugged it in, turned on power, and the unit did what the instructions said. It started on high and read current room temperature at 63*F. Followed instructions to use buttons, then set C or F, target temp to 75*F, and oscillating on.

PERFORMANCE FIRST TWO DAYS: Very impressive. It began pumping solid heat on high. Within an hour it read 70*F in the space, and within two hours it read 73*F. Checking against another thermometer I had, it was only about a degree difference. Within 3 hours, it read 75*F and turned itself off for a bit. It's a large space, so I was pleasantly surprised. Concluded the time it took to get to 75* was a function of the inherent coldness and lack of insulation in the space, not of the heater output.

THINGS I NOTICED RIGHT AWAY:

--Be sure to have two AAA batteries handy when it arrives to install in remote. Unit ships without batteries.

--Heat output is clearly noticeable.

--Oscillating function makes no noise.

--It's the high fan setting that makes a moderate volume whir. Low fan noise is barely noticeable.

--Font size of the Temp display is large ~3/4" and easily readable, on both the unit and remote, so I don't have to use reading glasses.

--Remote is very light weight. It works from as much as 20' away, but main unit display needs to be facing where you/the remote are.

--Beeping happens for every press on both unit and remote, but it's a reasonable volume. Folks with sensitive sleeping children may want to really consider this. It'd be nice to have a High, Low, or Mute volume setting, but for the price and knowing this model didn't have one, it's acceptable.

OVERALL: Great unit, works well, as promised, and I'd definitely buy this Lasko again.

NOTE: I also ordered a DeLonghi comparable model for the master suite, and am awaiting shipment/receipt. It has had similar Top Tower reviews. Unlike this Lasko model, I ordered the DeLonghi TCH7690ER Safeheat

specifically for these functions I needed for the master bedroom space:

--Fan-Only function without heat for summer use summer

--24 hour timer

--Air/dust filter

--Tip over safety turn-off

I purchased this unit to replace an old rotary-style thermostat. This works very well with our central-air system. Setup allows you two programs: M-F and Sat-Sun

For each program, you can specify Four Temperatures and their respective times:

1. Temp at wakeup (wake)

2. Temp during the day (leave)

3. Temp in evening (return)

4. Temp for overnight (sleep)

This was fairly easy to install as a replacement for our old unitfasten wall plate onto wall, insert wire leads into well labeled connectors, insert included backup battery, snap main unit into wall plate, viola!

After changing the batteries on the unit, the unit stopped working correctly . After trouble shooting on my own and reading up online, it was very clear it was the motherboard. I called honeywell, and they said the installing plumbing contractor would have to be called ( 80$ service call NOT to be covered under the 5 year warranty) in order for the licensed contractor who originally purchased the unit would have to be the one to file a claim. What if they are no longer in business! I told them I would happily pay for the replacement cost, but they said they could do nothing without the contractor calling and the contractor can't call unless they come out for a 80$ service call. Now that I know this "racket" , I would like everyone to know to ask their heating contractor to put in a "non-professional" thermostat that can be purchased at home depot , lowes , etc. That way i can serviced by you without the expensive service calls. I think Honeywell could have given me a chance to just get a new faceplate. They were unfriendly about it as well. Stay away from any models that start in TH and go for the PTH and save a lot of time and money.

I bought this to replace a previous Honeywell thermostat:

that went flaky on me after about 4 years.

I was initially reluctant to buy another Honeywell, but after reading reviews decided that maybe this was the best choice for me. The convincing factor for me is that this is from the "Pro" line, so it comes with a 5 year warranty. Although I have no clue if that means that it's built any better or with any better quality components or not.

I'm not really sure what makes it a "Pro". They don't actually intend for it to be sold to anyone but contractors, which is somewhat absurd imho. There are a lot of settings that I don't necessarily care about, and going through them requires a somewhat non-intuitive setup phase (that you probably won't be able to figure out without a manual). So maybe that's the reason. But once you have it set up, the basic operation (including changing program values) is reasonable simple and intuitive and just like any other programmable digital thermostat that I've used.

I was a bit wary of the AIR (Adaptive Intelligent Recovery) feature, where the thermostat doesn't turn on when you set it, but instead tries to predict when it ought to turn on to be at the selected temperature at the selected time. Sounds like something that sounds great in theory, but might be flaky in practice. Esp. since one of the reviewers complained about it, as well as getting no help from customer service in trying to disable the feature. I decided that I was only going to buy the thermostat if this could be disabled. But the owner's manual gave no info about how to do that.

So I called customer service. I got a reasonably helpful person who was not an idiot and could speak English. (And when I asked a question he didn't know the answer to, he didn't just make something up -he put me on hold and found someone else that knew the answer.) Anyway, the bottom line is that yes you *can* disable this. While the owner's manual doesn't cover this, the installation guide does. While these both come with the thermostat, they are also both available online. The owner's manual is here:

Fwiw, selection 0 in setup function 13 turns AIR off.

I can't speak to how well the AIR does or does not work, since I just disabled it during setup.

So far it seems to work, although I don't really have too many things I'm looking for in a thermostat. (Although it does improve upon my previous model in various respects, like having a backlight, and having a more informative display, and not requiring removing the panel to program it, and actually doing the right thing when you set a temporary temperature by keeping that valid until the next program change.)

I do have a few minor complaints about the physical design. I would like to see a few more holes in the backing plastic piece to give you some more options wrt where to mount the thermostat and where to run the wires. I had a few constraints relative to my existing installation, so I ended up using the existing left mount hole as is; ignoring the hole for running the wires; using the right mount hole for running the wires; and drilling a new hole for the second mount hole. Not a huge deal, but I could understand if some people would be nervous about drilling into the plastic. Also, I was able to run my wires through the small mount hole b/c I only have a 2 wire system. For a more complicated system, that might not have worked and I might have had to drill a larger hole.

Also, it's a bit of an effort to remove the main unit from the base, which is necessary to change the batteries. I'm nervous that that will put excessive stress where the unit is mounted into the plaster. I guess I'll just have to try to be as gentle as possible.

The value is excellent, and it's fairly easy to install. We have one of these for our upstairs unit and it works well. Configuration is intuitive and the backlight automatically turns off after a fairly short timer. It allows 4 time slots for M-F and 4 time slots for S-S. This does not auto-switch between heat and cool, but otherwise, its' great.

The "Adaptive Intelligent Recovery" is kind of annoying. To turn it off, hold both up and down arrows to go into config mode. Cursor UP to get to function 13, and cursor DOWN to change it to ZERO for off. Then hold both buttons again to exit and save.

This unit uses a couple of AA batteries, or it can use the C (common) line from your AC's transformer. Batteries last 9-12 months in this.

The manual is decent, but this version forgets to have you label the old thermostat wires before you disconnect the old thermostat. This model isn't directly listed anymore, and seems to be replaced by RTH4300B; however, Honeywell still has its manuals online. I'm not sure if Amazon will scrub URLs or not, so here they are expanded and linky:

I like my Mitsubishi Mr. Slim ductless A/C and heat unit, but found the remote control limited. Since this thermostat kit was not an option from my installer, I bought this unit. If you search the web, there are very specific instructions on how to take the main unit apart, plug in the wires and then establish communication with the thermostat. You won't find ANY of that info on Mitsubishi's website.

But the thermostat itself is so stupid and rigidly set up to be almost useless as a temperature control device and I find myself going back to the remote control unit, which is more programmable and variable. It, at least, can be set to A/C only, locking off the heat settings.

Note: if, during the thermostat set-up, you tell it that it is a residential install, the programming functions are locked there is only the one program available, which assumes that you leave the house every weekday morning at 9 and come back every evening at 5. It can not be altered, except to set temperatures for leaving and arrival. This is beyond stupid. Even using it as a "commercial" install, it has limited and rigid time boundaries which are not useful. You must set the heat AND cool parameters for every time period (and there are only 2 time periods per day). My cheap Home Depot aftermarket units (for the radiant floor system in my house) are FAR more versatile and smarter than this unit except, of course, they won't work with this unit.

I was a little hesitant to attempt the installation myself but glad I did. As warned, opening up my Mr. Slim was more difficult than installing the thermostat. The Mr. Slim cover came off okay but getting to the control board to plug in the wireless controller was a little tricky but doable. Now that its in I have a greater range of temperatures for both heat and cooling than available on the small handheld unit that came with the systems. I connected the RedLink Gateway and now have the ability to see and adjust the thermostat remotely. A very nice feature.

We are very impressed with the quality and beauty of this product. Equally impressive is the company, Southern Enterprises. When we received our fireplace, the box was quite battered and we feared what we would find inside. I bought this for our living room. This is a large room with.a vaulted ceiling . This fireplace makes a surprising amount of heat and takes the chill off the room. The firelight is realistic and mesmerizing to watch. We are very pleased and would recommend it to anyone.

I give this 4 stars because I like the appearance of the fireplace and the heater works well. The wood finish is very nice, and the faux stone looks good. One caveat, my TV universal remote will also turn on the heating unit. It took me awhile to figure that one out. As long as I am careful where I aim the remote, i have no problem. The assembly instructions could have been made easier. The Chinese translated English left a little to be desired. Fortunately I have assembled cam-lock type fasteners before. Overall, I would recommend this fireplace.

The best part about this fireplace is that it looks exactly like the picture. No surprises. It looks great in the photo, and in person. The LED lights used to simulate flames looks as good or better then any other electric fireplace I've seen. The heater works well, and it comes with a remote so that you don't have to get up to adjust the flame, the log glow, or the heat. As far as assembly goes, it's not bad. If you've put together department store furniture, then this is easy. If you haven't, it's a good piece to get started with. It's best to have a second set of hands to help steady things, or to move stuff around before it's all together, but you can do it yourself. I assembled it by myself, taking my time and it took an hour, maybe a few minutes less. It looks and works great, and it's sturdy. Very happy with it.

This is a gorgeous piece of furniture and throws great heat. My son tells me that putting it together was a breeze too. It was a perfect size for the area we had. The only comment I have about it, and it's not a concern or anything we disliked. We ordered the anitque oak colour and it is darker than it looked in the picture. Not a biggie for us and it certainly is a beautiful colour and quality. Love it.
