ive only had this thing for 4 days now and im already noticing some technical issues with it. first off the thermostat reads weird temps. it will say its 76 when i have it set to cool to 75, then when i bump it down to 72 for the night so i can sleep, the thermostat pretty rapidly shoots up from 76 to 80 degrees, not sure why it does that. i know its not 76 degrees in here when i come in to go to bed.. tonight i came in and turned it down to 72 and it was reading that its 73 in the room, wont kick on so i bump it down to 70 and it turns on, thermostat shoots up to 80 degrees then the a/c stopped running. i turned it off for a couple minutes and it seems to be doing fine now but all this up and down and wrong temp readings are kind of bothersome. i seem to be the only person thats reviewed this thing anywhere that has this problem with it. but when it works, it works great and as long as it cools and cycles on and off the temp reading isnt that big of an issue, but cycling off when i have it set to 70 and the temp is reading 80, thats a little weird. hopefully it redeems itself and stops acting so strange otherwise its going to have to go back.

Probably better options out there than $120 for a simple timer and thermostat but I didn't want to spend a ton of money on new setup so fixed what I had.

If you need to replace yours this is as good a place as any to get it. Leslie's wanted over $400 for a whole new box, they wouldn't sell just the internals. Came as quickly as I paid extra to receive it next day and worked out of the box in just 10 min to swap out the old one.

Whirlpool 279816 Thermostat Kit for Dryer as sold by Seneca River Trading.

1. I paid Seneca River Trading for expedited shipping and it went USPS Priority Mail from NY 13027 to TN 37923. It took 10 days for delivery but even UPS ground would have gotten it to my door in 3 days.

2. Seneca River Trading put the product in a padded USPS flat rate envelope instead of a USPS flat rate box plus some bubble wrap. The thermal cutoff had a bent prong and the thermostat had something that looks like a pop rivet that had busted. Both items appear to work OK but the packaging allowed minor damage and only luck prevented them from being damaged enough that I'd have to pursue another replacement part.

3. The screws in the kit don't thread into the holes on the dryer. Not a big deal as I had plenty of computer screws from PC builds lying around that did fit just fine. But for someone with less spare parts laying around this could have been an issue as the provided screws wouldn't turn more than once until the thread was in a bind and the thermostat was still wobbling around.

4. I've edited this review 3 times now. Amazon doesn't want me to link to the youtube video that gives instructions for modifying the wiring to use the new part since the old part is wired differently. Please note that the instructions provided with the kit are not clear. Google the part # and watch the video on youtube since I can't link to it from here. With the tools I had stripping the wires and crimping the new leads was a hassle I wouldn't wish on anyone with poor coordination or poor tools. If you are not the Do It Yourself type you'll want a friend to do the wiring work for you or you'll want to pay someone to do it. The orange wire barely had an inch of slack and a mistake replacing the end on that wire could complicate the repair.

On the whole I got the parts for about half price vs the closest appliance store that had the part in stock but I did without my dryer for two weeks and had to haul laundry to the laundromat during that time and spent more time than I'm happy to admit tracking the package and checking the mail every day.

Amazon Prime has me spoiled for things showing up in 1 or 2 days from time of order and USPS tracking and delivery speed on this were sub par.

I held onto this review until I caught up on my backlog of laundry and I'd given it a week or two to stop working. The dryer still works so I'll give this 3 stars. If it had arrived undamaged and in less than 5 days time like I expected I would have given 4 stars.

The high limit thermistor is not an oem equivalent as it indicates. The temp for the switch is lower than the OEM and will not function. Double check the temperature marked on your oem thermistor before installing this one. I found this out only after the repair man came out and discovered that it was the wrong part.

What is in the picture IS NOT what you receive. It is similar but not exact. NOT MADE BY WHIRLPOOL

Honest reviews on Whirlpool 279816 Thermostat Kit for Dryer

This part works like a charm! The instructions seemed a little cryptic I felt I was going to break something, but then finally got it . . . it seems the dryer is designed to fit this part (has the outline and screw holes for it) but the original installed part sits at a different angle and is secured by a tab, not screws, adding to my confusion.

I had tested the thermal cutoff and ascertained that was the problem. The kit also includes a thermostat and all instructions (included, on Amazon and the Web) recommended replacing both. They were right! I did a test BEFORE replacing the thermostat and the dryer definitely ran too hot probably what caused the thermal fuse to blow in the first place!

I was very pleased with the delivery time it only took a couple of days, even via USPS. I am now a hero in my wife's eyes!

It's not worth saving some money on this, pay more and buy OEM parts. This part worked for a few loads of clothes, then not at all. I have a baby that I'm cloth diapering so I really need a dryer. Not so fun to have to go through this all again!

I do not have central heat and air in my home so I bought these heaters for my kids rooms. They are fantastic! They dont get hot, so if the kids touch them they dont burn themselves. They are easy to operate, though I unplug everytime I leave the house to go to work as the light does not go off when you turn the heater to the off position. The bedrooms are about 140sf and it takes about 30 min to warm up in the room when we get home everyday. I have had the heaters plugged in for 3 or 4 days at a time and still the casing stays warm to the touch. Running these heaters everynight in November, December and January so far, it has cost about $65.00 a month for both heaters on the electric bill. I plan on buying 3 more for the rest of the house.

I purchase a heater to use in by bedroom while I sleep. So I wanted a quiet one.

The unit is fanless and so generally quiet. Unfortunately it does creak a bit when it heats up. The thermostat is very quiet. . . it's hard to hear it click. Otherwise the heater works well. Despite it's title of a baseboard heater, it can be placed elsewhere; but if it's not close to a wall, it could possibly be a tripping hazard due to its low height.

It could use thicker sheet metal all around, which I think is probably the case for many such heaters.

I purchased the heater from Amazon/Northern Tools. The first one was damaged in shipment. Northern Tools replaced it without complaint. The second one was also damaged. . . but not nearly as much as the first one. I decided to keep it. Both were damaged in a similar fashion. The manufacturer could do a better job protecting them in shipment.

Best Deals on Fahrenheat Electric 5120 BTU Baseboard Heater, Model# FBE15002

The heater I got is made in the USA. Hope they continue to make them here onshore, but gladly, mine doesn't have the toxic fumigants embedded in the paint (and other parts) that other heaters have from the shipping container fumigants they apply to the shipping container interiors when they ship from China (to prevent mold and mildew, and insects in the containers, which are sometimes enclosed for months.) Heat really activates these chemical toxins, embedded in the materials. Those toxic vapors take a while to gas-off of a new heater, and I have enough health problems and headaches without them.

I gassed this unit off at 1500W outside for a few hours and used it at 1000 watts indoors without any problems, and I have severe multiple chemical sensitivity.

The heating element in this portable heater is the same size as a 1000-Watt stationary baseboard. On the 1000-WATT setting (low) it gives a steady nice heat and doesn't get the chassis extremely hot on the outside probably because of the angle at which the heater stands, which maximizes airflow convection. The housing doesn't even get as hot as a 1000-WATT stationary baseboard, which sits vertically against a wall, not at an angle, like this one does.

The "enamel" paint on all heaters is not really a traditional mineral enamel coating, but a modern polyester imitation, sometimes called "powder coat." It is like when they call eating utensils "silverware" which is mostly stainless steel. Heat this "enamel" paint with a torch and it wont blister or crack, it will melt.

I believe I called this company on the phone and I think they said they used epoxy paint, but please check with them yourself if you are concerned about this. Their product line of (aka Q-Mark, farenheat) heaters has a good price for a good basic product.

The location of the thermostat on this item is much better than the location of the thermostat on radiator-type stand-up oil-filled heaters (another good choice), unfortunately, most of them are now made offshore as far as I have seen in stores (and therefore very toxic, because the paint picks up bug and fungus fumigant vapors in the shipping containers.)

In element heaters, there is very little heat at the ends of the element. The heat gradually increases to the middle of the element. The thermostat is at the end. That means element heaters are less likely to effect the control of the thermostat relative to the ambient temperature in the room, which will have more effect on the thermostat than it will with a hydronic (oil-filled) heater, especially radiator-types. That makes the element heater far better for heat control and moderation.

This has been a great heater. We use it when the temperature gets cold. It heats up the front room very nicely. It is our only source of heat. I have chemical sensitivity and it didn't give me any problems. It takes the chill out of the air. It is more to take the chill out of the air than to warm up one specific area. I love it and wish they sold a smaller version of it.

I would highly recommend this toaster oven. I wasn't sure whether or not I would like this one. It is not a brand that I usually think of that goes with toaster ovens. I have used it several times & it is GREAT! It has lots of power and will toast bread to perfection. I especially like the pizza pan that came with it. It will hold a 12" pizza and the crust gets nice & crunchy and the toppings melt well too. I have yet to cook anything like a roast or chicken in it but one of these days I will and I am sure it will do fine.

This oven is simple, easy to use and it just plain works. I have paid high dollar for fancy models with LCD readouts. They all break. This one is also much easier to clean than a stainless steel model. What a deal I paid only 34.99 with free shipping. Couldn't be happier. A great oven for summertime.

Best Deals on Rosewill RTOB-11001 6 Slice Toaster Oven Broiler, Black

It seems every toaster oven I have bought over the last 4 or 5 years has lasted about a year. I finally decided to stop buying the more expensive ovens and get something cheaper so that when it gives out in a year, it won't be such a loss. I have only had this one for a week, so I don't know how long it will last, but it has worked perfectly and accurately every time I have used it. The interior is big enough to hold a small casserole or small pizza. Last night I re-warmed/crisped up some Chinese salt and pepper shrimp and it worked great. Two nights ago I broiled steaks which turned out great. Plus, shipping was faster than I expected, and I had great service from the manufacturer who immediately shipped a missing oven rack.

Honest reviews on Rosewill RTOB-11001 6 Slice Toaster Oven Broiler, Black

Overall I am very happy with this oven. But there are a couple of things to be aware of.

1) It's BIG. Check the dimensions listed. Then realize it has built in stand-offs in the rear that push it back from the wall another 1.5-2". It's also very TALL so keep that in mind when considering where to place it. The top and sides get very hot when in use so give it some room there.

2) This is a no-frills oven. While it is very well-built, there is nothing extra. Dial-based timer. The oven door has no springs or counterweight and doesn't retract the tray when opened. Actually due to the large size, that's not really an issue as you can easily fit your hand inside without having to squeeze it in under the hot top heating elements. But it works great, can fit anything and warms up very quickly. Overall I'm quite happy with it and would buy it again.

I love this toaster oven. It gets hot quick, bakes well and comes with a nice full size perforated pizza pan. I have only used it for baking, however biscuits, cupcakes and pizza have all turned out wonderfully thus far. It was also very well packaged and arrived next day. I highly recommend this toaster oven.

If you want a thermostat that is incredibly easy to program and works like a charm, then you definitely should buy this thermostat by White-Rodgers. I was already familiar with this thermostat because my place of business has approximately 30 of them and I am responsible for the programming. You will be amazed at how easy they are to operate.

When I first moved into my new home, I tried for days to program the existing thermostat...never did get it right. I knew then I had to locate a White-Rodgers, model #1F80-361. Now I will tell you they are not easy to find. I tried Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart & several other places to no avail. Amazon was the only place I could find one and then there were only a couple available.

So, if you are as technically challenged as I am, by all means, get yourself one of these thermostats if you can find one. You won't regret it.

be sure to label the leads from the old thermostat with with tape. the stickers provided are not too good they fall off. also the connections are not the easiest. instead of screw connections the have a modified insert and tighten type which take more time to make secure than plain old screw connections. other than that it works fine once it is installed.

Wow. Just wow.

I got this to replace a thermostat I really loved, a nice honeywell touchscreen. But I'm a techie, and the idea of doing things via computer, iphone, and ipad was too much.

Got it at my local brick and mortar, and less than 15 minutes from opening the box until the old one was out, this was in, ipad and iphone had app and were communicating, and I had set up multiple programs via my computer on the website and uploaded.

It has the normal R, W, Y, G wires, but also needs the 24v C wire for power. Most thermostats don't have that one, so check your wires coming up to it. I was fortunate, my home builder in 2005 ran a bundle, so I had several unused ones. Just picked one at the furnace, wired it into the C terminal on the board, and had it up top here for the thermostat.

Setup is very easy, and they give you the link to go online for a nice color webpage for how to get your iphone or computer connected to this. It has a built in wifi hotspot that you connect to with another device, then use your web browser to connect to the control page of the thermostat. From there, you enter info for your wireless network to get it joined, then it talks to the mothership out on the internet, and you can then access it and program it from anywhere.

I've gone through three thermostats before this, trying to find something I liked, but as I said, I saw this in the store, and couldn't pass. And having gone through several here as well as my last house, I know how much of a pain programming can be if you have a complex need. My weeks alternate, and I've never done anything this easy before. It's far more flexible than any other one I had, because not only can you do a whole week, with four points per day, but you can, from the website, make a bunch of programs, and each program has different set points for those days. Then you just select one and say "make active" and viola, your thermostat is following that program now.

As my son loves to say, easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I haven't found a way to change from one program to another via the app on the iphone though but it does let you switch modes, fan, heat, temp and hold, etc, even turn it off. Very slick.

Without a doubt, the very best and most flexible thermostat I've ever had. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

Edit Jan 2012 they've changed the website they back end this from, so it's no longer possible to have multiple schedules. Since that was the ONE thing besides the wireless that set this apart from all the rest, I've dropped my rating from 5 to 4 since the wireless is still nice, but that multiple schedule option was for me the best thing there was... Now I'm back to having to edit it every week when custody of my son changes, so it's just as annoying as all the others... Wireless still works and the iPhone / iPad / web access still works, just not as awesome now.

The concept is pretty simple and I'm sure has crossed your mind. It's early morning and you wake up, cozy in bed while the temperature of the house has dropped down to a chilly 50 degrees. You know how difficult it is to get out from those warm blankets and get the day started. If there was a way to turn on the heat first, it would be great. The Filtrete Wi-Fi thermostat makes this possibleyou just have to remember to go to bed with your wireless device within arm's reach.

We have an iPad so we found this product seemed like the best quality, coming from respectable 3M, at a good price. Other wireless thermostats can be twice as expensive. The packaging says "easy installation," so we decided to go for it.

Hitch number one: "easy installation" is pretty vague and certainly not necessarily accurate. The wi-fi feature requires more power than the usual wall thermostat, so additional power is required. Unfortunately, thermostat wiring frequently does not have a wire for power, or "c-wire." If you don't have a powered c-wire, your options become not-so-easy. You must run or connect a c-wire to your HVAC system, or buy a 24v wall plug and strip the wire at the end of that, plugging into the c-wire terminal (this means your once tidy wall thermostat will have a power cord running down to an outlet). If your eyes start to glaze over in technical incompetence at thought of either of these options, you may need a professional to assist. We had a c-wire installed for tidy appearance by a pro for about $50. Installation, not too easy, but it worked.

Hitch number two: Product design. There is a large complicated looking interface screen that does some things, but not all things. There are two buttons on the side with difficult to read labels that control the fan and heat/cooling on off. Why are these buttons not simply put on the front touch display? The front display is a disorganized mess with flashing lights, labels, numbers. High tech looking, but difficult to comprehend and illogical. Don't let this bother you though! The wireless control allows you to forget all about this.

Fortunately, the wireless interface is clean, simple, and renders actually using the messy interface on the thermostat box unnecessary. We are running the app on an iPad. It is very simple to use and almost feels like magic. I'd like to see a more stylish looking app, but it's hardly an issue. A wonderful concept that works great once it all gets set up.

I just bought this thermostat from Home Depot for $99 and so far I am extremely impressed!! I was ready to spend over $400 on a different IP thermostat, power supply, and sensors, but this one does exactly what I want for a fraction of the price.

You can set this up to use Radio Thermostat's "Cloud Server" if you want simple control from a computer/smartphone inside or outside of your home and don't want to mess around with writing code. However, I do want to write code so I can customize it the way I want and there is already a decent amount of information available on this forum: and this wiki:

I haven't got very far into programming much more than setting temps and stuff but so far it's easy. The API is a simple RESTful architecture. Radio Thermostat has committed to releasing API documentation in Q1 2011.

Honest reviews on Filtrete Wi-fi Touch Screen Programmable Thermostat

There are 2 big issues that you are likely to encounter using the product.

The first can be investigated before hand, which is the availability of a power wire ("C") from the wall. There are many posts and sites that discuss this item. Understand it first will help you avoid grieve after purchase.

The second is whether the Wifi connection is going to work for you. The comments you read are largely dependent on whether the user got the Wifi working. If it does, you have a shot at benefiting from this technology. If you, then it is a frustrating experience.

However, the worse part of the product is the lack of support.

The forum is not helpful with posts going unanswered for days. Many have problems with no resolution described.

Sending emails to support also yield no respond.

And worse of all, the phone support is a recording that comes on after 2:30 minutes. I know this because I have tried for days at different hours of the day. The literature proudly declares 365 days of support from 8AM 12AM EST. That is a misrepresentation.

I've had this thermostat about six months. Sometimes it works perfectly and sometimes it's on strike. In other words, it's undependable. Initially, mine came with a bad WiFi module, so overall it took about a week to set up. Oh, and even with a good module, setup is far from intuitive. It's one of the most difficult wireless devices I've ever had to wrestle with. Connectivity is iffy at best. While none of my other wireless devices have trouble staying linked to my router (a high end D-Link), the thermostat connects sometimes, and sometimes not, even though it's within a few feet of the router. The odd part is that the thermostat screen will indicate a link, but my iPhone app and the web interface will say it's not connected, and I should check my wireless connection. Hmmm, makes me think the problem is on the web client end. Is the server seriously overloaded and non-responsive sometimes? Can't tell, and this is one of the most frustrating aspects of dealing with the Filtrete thermostat. One is never sure of what exactly is happening when it doesn't work as advertised.

I have worked in manufacturing for a long time, and I suspect this is just another example of a product that works great in the lab and controlled field tests, but just isn't robust enough for the real world. Sometimes a product that falls into this category takes on a life of its own. Too many employees have a vested interest in keeping a lame horse alive to avoid career damage by admitting an expensive mistake. As a result, the product limps along with constant adjustments in the firmware to try and salvage it. All the while, everyone in the organization is secretly longing for the day when the pain mystically fades away. What companies refuse to realize is that products like this are damaging to their reputation. But accountants can't quantify reputation, only monies invested and promised returns on that investment. That's my theory on this item, based on decades of observing the corporate culture from inside. It doesn't make Filtrete evil, but it does speak to its corporate culture and mentality that places internal issues ahead of customers. Watch for this thermostat to fade away in the future, hopefully to be replaced by something that actually works dependably.

Great value compared to larger vent fans

No cutting through walls

Even included vent block-offs for the winter

Cons:

Amount of air exchanged is limited by the relatively small fans and vents

A bit noisy when in operation (only a con if you are in the garage when they are running)

Conclusion In the end I was torn between 4 or 5 stars. I gave it 5 because even though it won't measure up to a large wall vent system it is much simpler, easier to install, and costs a lot less. It is a great product that does exactly what it claims. It won't magically keep your garage cool when you park a hot car in it on a hot day, but it will dramatically decrease the amount of time it takes to cool back down to ambient temperatures. My garage is now down to "normal" temperatures a few hours after parking. Before it would still be warm when I went out in the morning after sitting all night.

Tips Make sure you pick up a good quality 4 1/2" hole saw for installation, they may be hard to find at the local hardware store. Also get some plastic spray paint to paint the outside covers for a professional looking installation.

Does just what it says. It cools your garage. With careful installation, you should be pleased.

I was somewhat dubious of this product and emailed another reviewer before buying. I'm glad I did. He's a doctor and he reassured me that he liked his, so I went ahead and bought it. Thanks, Doc, although I didn't realize you would bill me just for asking your advice...

Anyway, it does just what it says. It cools your garage.

Prior to the unit being delivered I monitored the temperature in my garage which has a south facing door and a water heater in one corner. Almost always above 95 degrees. After installation...84 degrees.

My overall home cooling bill dropped, I think, because the heat removed from the garage did not transfer up into the "bonus room" above our garage. (next big project is to inspect insulation or lack of between garage ceiling and bonus room floor)

Biggest caution I can urge.....I measured for placement of the vents several times. I even used a similar thickness of wooden block temporarily attached to the door to simulate where I would place my upper vents to make sure nothing would scrape or interfere with the garage door movement. After measuring and cutting the first hole, the vent still scraped against my upper garage door weather strip gasket which I had to pare down to allow unrestricted movement. By this time I HAD to install the vent on the other side of the door the same way to preserve symmetry.

Do what I did, measure, simulate and then move the hole ANOTHER inch inward and downward just to be safe.

Once the first hole is cut, there is no turning back.

Kit seems very small when it arrives, but that is because it is packed so efficiently.

It is simple to install, directions are great. Templates for marking and cutting holes are good, just make sure you are VERY careful of placement like I mentioned earlier.

Fan noise is not bad. Grills on outside of door are a little hard to paint, but are hardly noticed from the street.

I will buy this kit for my next garage when I move to my big house in the country.

Fairly easy to install, involves cutting four holes in your garage door. The retractable AC cord is pretty slick. It's a little noisy and the installation screws are too long for thin doors (poked through mine) but if you need garage ventilation and can't cut through a wall (ours is concrete) this is a neat alternative.

Helped a friend install this in his garage. Came with all of the parts and well packed. The company web site claims that installation time is about an hour. Figure at least 3-4 times that. If you do not have an automatic opener or electric outlet it will take longer. We had the opener installed on the bracket so that did not take much time. Make sure you have the appropriate hole saw and that will probably require a 1/2" drill. That said the only word of caution is to make sure you allow enough room at the top where the exhaust vents are placed so the vents will not hit when open as the garage door is closed. The fans blow the louvers open when running and this requires an additional 11 1/2" clearance then when they are not on.

The company that makes the unit is in Florida and that's where the unit was installed. The system works but offers very little benefit. My friend who was returning to Canada for the summer decided to leave the unit off as there was no benefit he could see. Perhaps the system would offer some small benefit in a different area and when the weather is not too warm or humid. Also, the most this unit could possibly work on is a single car garage.

In Florida the garages do get hot in the summer so having a good fan will make it more comfortable for working. This system won't. In terms of protecting tools and other items the big problem is humidity. This system will do nothing to control that. In fact if you have a dehumidifier it will remove dry air and bring in moist air. In my opinion, if you do not want to go to the expense of Air Conditioning your garage, spend the money that this vent system will cost and install a dehumidifier, which will cost about the same. You can add a fan for additional comfort.

Finally, This is not a commercial system and I question how long the parts will last. While the unit comes with some guards and screens for the vents you will need to install some tighter mesh screens if you want to keep small critters from entering. At least in Florida.

I gave the system two stars because it does work and might be helpfull in small garages and in different areas. However,I have the same garage as we installed the system in, and I would not install the unit in my garage even if it were free.

This formerly discontinued item is now available from 3 vendors. Vermontcountrystore.com offers a similar warmer (by a different manufacturer) that has a ceramic rather than plastic base.

The enclosed instructions claim that the "Hot Spot" does not heat items, but maintains their temperature. This is only partially true: Very hot cups of liquid cool down to hot (probably because there is no lid), and very full cups will cool down even more. That said, the Salton hot plate "mostly" maintains beverage temperature. I enjoy my now hotter coffee, and I've noticed I don't have to drink as much coffee as I did without the hot plate because I'm not refilling a cup at room temperature.

NO THERMOSTAT

That's right, there is no thermostat, so safety is really up to you. If you lay something on top of this, if it accidentally turns over-whatever-it will stay at the same temperature and start to burn. Even without this important lack-of-safety feature, the hot plate's complete ignorance of its own temperature can result in a scalded taste when heating coffee with milk-especially when the cup is near empty. Perhaps this item is hard to find because of this thermostat issue; however, I have yet to locate a similar product that senses heat.

The Salton does an adequate to good job at keeping beverages hot. It comes with a plain white cup which could have easily been left out. There is a white power cord and a simple on/off switch-a small red light indicates that the power is on. Please note that this product ships from independent sellers; therefore, Amazon.com does not offfer free shipping (with an order of $25 or more). For a similar price, you can order a mug warmer with a ceramic base from Vermontcountrystore.com. Given the adequate but not excellent performance of the Salton Hot Spot, this product might be worth checking out, although it does not have a thermostat either.

I bought this item based on the reviews and after looking at all other similar items and their reviews. This has been a great for my work. I spend most of my day in front of a computer/at at desk (like most of us today) and many times I get completely into what I am doing and forget to drink my tea, which ends up getting cold before I finish it. Well, no more. My tea stays hot until I finish it.

It does have one minor deficiency; it does not have an automatic on/off switch, so you need to be careful placing it in an area where you are not going accidentally cover it with any pieces of paper in case you forget to turn it off. On the other hand, the benefit of that feature is that you can turn it on before you go to get your coffee/tea/hot chocolate/soup so by the time you get back to your desk, the plate is already warm.

Note; this item is not for heating up a cold drink (as, oddly, some people seem to think), but rather, it is to maintain the temperature of a hot drink. Finally, it does come with its own cup, but you can also use your own.

After researching the reviews of mug warmers on Amazon I bought the Salton "Hot Spot". Upon turning it on for the first time, there was a slight burning aroma. I then placed my huge tea mug on top, accidentally spilling a bit. The spilled tea sizzled and crackled on the mug warmer until it had boiled away! Needless to say, the Hot Spot did its job and kept my large mug of tea at a very warm (but not too hot) temperature. Highly recommended!

I like my coffee piping hot, this warming plate doesn't keep it piping hot, but does ok.

I did a test on it using a digital thermometer that was graduated in whole degrees (not tenths)

I made a cup of coffee in a Keurig automatic coffee maker into the ceramic mug that came with the unit. I did not heat the mug first....it was at room temperature when the coffee began pouring into it.

I preheated the warmer for 15 minutes prior to making my cup of coffee.

Room temperature was 72 deg F.

All temperature readings were taken with the temperature probe tip located at the mid-point of the remaining coffee in the mug.

1. As soon as the coffee was made the temperature was 155 deg F.

2. The mug was then immediately placed on the PREHEATED warmer without having taken a sip of coffee.

3. 15 minutes after setting the mug on the preheated warmer, the temperature was 130 deg F. (I had still NOT taken a drink of coffee nor had the cup been removed from the warmer)

4. 20 minutes after setting the mug on the preheated warmer, the temperature was 125 deg F. (I had still NOT taken a drink of coffee nor had the cup been removed from the warmer)

5. I then periodically took a sip of coffee over the next 60 minutes. The mid level coffee temperature continued to fall until it stabilized at 110 deg F.

6. With 20% of the cup left with coffee, the temperature remained steady at 110 deg F. for 3 hours.

As a reference: I did the same test, however, the warmer was NOT used:

1. Removed from Keurig coffee maker the temperature of the coffee was: 155 deg F. (Room temperature was: 72 deg F.)

2. 15 mins later the coffee temperature was 122 deg F.

3. 20 mins later the coffee temperature was 102 deg F.

I like the cup warmer and recommend it, but, for me, I wish it could keep my coffee around 150 deg F.

I hope this helps in your decision.

I have purchased SEVERAL other brands of mug warmers, trying to find one that actually lives up to what the manufacturer claims. This one actually does! It keeps my coffee warm for literally hours (since I'm one to get busy at work and forget my morning coffee sitting on the desk, it will still be hot at lunch time). I would never purchase any other brand, and would tell others the same who ask me. This product is the only one to try. Trust me...I've tried the others.
