Great proudct! This is our second Sunbeam heated mattress pad, we outgrew our first when we got a bigger bed. This pad has a preheat feature, which is a nice touch, and the controls are simple. Dimming of the display is a nice idea, but kind of unnecessary. You don't feel the wires in the pad, and it warms our bed well. Dual controls, and the controls are black. Very happy, the wife loves it! Our last one laundered well, but follow the instructions.

Our old heated mattress pad went out on one of the coldest Indiana nights. We ordered this Sunbeam heated mattress pad and used Amazon's super fast shipping and got it the next day. It is perfect. Has a preheat button to get the bed warm and ready. It does get very warm so we turn it down to low and it keeps us warm all night. It does turn itself off automatically after 10 hours. My wife has figured out if you turn it off for a few minutes and turn it back on it resets the timer. I would highly recommend this to anyone who doesn't like getting into a cold bed. We've had several differnt heated mattress pads and this is the best one yet.

This pad fit our king bed perfectly. My wife and I use the pad to warm the

bed and then turn it off. We only use the lower numbered settings on

the controller and it works very well.

Honest reviews on Sunbeam Vertical Quilted Heated Mattress Pad

The product is very comfortable to sleep on. The heat is even through out the pad. A low setting is more than enough for the entire night....never go higher than a setting of 3. We are very happy with this product.

The quilting cushions the individual coils nicely, so you can't feel them. The pre-heat and auto-shutoff are both nice features of the heating mechanism, so you can arrive at a warm bed and not worry about whether you forgot to turn it off..

I do not have central heat and air in my home so I bought these heaters for my kids rooms. They are fantastic! They dont get hot, so if the kids touch them they dont burn themselves. They are easy to operate, though I unplug everytime I leave the house to go to work as the light does not go off when you turn the heater to the off position. The bedrooms are about 140sf and it takes about 30 min to warm up in the room when we get home everyday. I have had the heaters plugged in for 3 or 4 days at a time and still the casing stays warm to the touch. Running these heaters everynight in November, December and January so far, it has cost about $65.00 a month for both heaters on the electric bill. I plan on buying 3 more for the rest of the house.

I purchase a heater to use in by bedroom while I sleep. So I wanted a quiet one.

The unit is fanless and so generally quiet. Unfortunately it does creak a bit when it heats up. The thermostat is very quiet. . . it's hard to hear it click. Otherwise the heater works well. Despite it's title of a baseboard heater, it can be placed elsewhere; but if it's not close to a wall, it could possibly be a tripping hazard due to its low height.

It could use thicker sheet metal all around, which I think is probably the case for many such heaters.

I purchased the heater from Amazon/Northern Tools. The first one was damaged in shipment. Northern Tools replaced it without complaint. The second one was also damaged. . . but not nearly as much as the first one. I decided to keep it. Both were damaged in a similar fashion. The manufacturer could do a better job protecting them in shipment.

Best Deals on Fahrenheat Electric 5120 BTU Baseboard Heater, Model# FBE15002

The heater I got is made in the USA. Hope they continue to make them here onshore, but gladly, mine doesn't have the toxic fumigants embedded in the paint (and other parts) that other heaters have from the shipping container fumigants they apply to the shipping container interiors when they ship from China (to prevent mold and mildew, and insects in the containers, which are sometimes enclosed for months.) Heat really activates these chemical toxins, embedded in the materials. Those toxic vapors take a while to gas-off of a new heater, and I have enough health problems and headaches without them.

I gassed this unit off at 1500W outside for a few hours and used it at 1000 watts indoors without any problems, and I have severe multiple chemical sensitivity.

The heating element in this portable heater is the same size as a 1000-Watt stationary baseboard. On the 1000-WATT setting (low) it gives a steady nice heat and doesn't get the chassis extremely hot on the outside probably because of the angle at which the heater stands, which maximizes airflow convection. The housing doesn't even get as hot as a 1000-WATT stationary baseboard, which sits vertically against a wall, not at an angle, like this one does.

The "enamel" paint on all heaters is not really a traditional mineral enamel coating, but a modern polyester imitation, sometimes called "powder coat." It is like when they call eating utensils "silverware" which is mostly stainless steel. Heat this "enamel" paint with a torch and it wont blister or crack, it will melt.

I believe I called this company on the phone and I think they said they used epoxy paint, but please check with them yourself if you are concerned about this. Their product line of (aka Q-Mark, farenheat) heaters has a good price for a good basic product.

The location of the thermostat on this item is much better than the location of the thermostat on radiator-type stand-up oil-filled heaters (another good choice), unfortunately, most of them are now made offshore as far as I have seen in stores (and therefore very toxic, because the paint picks up bug and fungus fumigant vapors in the shipping containers.)

In element heaters, there is very little heat at the ends of the element. The heat gradually increases to the middle of the element. The thermostat is at the end. That means element heaters are less likely to effect the control of the thermostat relative to the ambient temperature in the room, which will have more effect on the thermostat than it will with a hydronic (oil-filled) heater, especially radiator-types. That makes the element heater far better for heat control and moderation.

This has been a great heater. We use it when the temperature gets cold. It heats up the front room very nicely. It is our only source of heat. I have chemical sensitivity and it didn't give me any problems. It takes the chill out of the air. It is more to take the chill out of the air than to warm up one specific area. I love it and wish they sold a smaller version of it.

Air King has had a 20", model 9166 for quite awhile. I bought my original in 1998. It filled the important niche between an industrial strength attic fan and a smaller lightweight window fan. In 2004 the original plastic fan blade failed, but fortunately I was able to obtain a replacement. That model 9166 continued in service until last month when it screeched to a stop with a seized "lubricated for life" bearing and another cracked plastic blade.

The new model 9166D (under review) was purchased as a direct replacement. While the new 9166 now has an aluminum blade, unfortunately it has a weaker smaller motor, resulting in inferior performance. The old 9166 had a quiet low speed of 520 RPM that moved a respectable 4160 CFM. The new 9166's low speed is a noisy 1100 RPM, but at that speed it only moves 2510 CFM. So at that twice the speed it moves only a little more than half the air.

Air King's 9166D specifications tell the story of the weaker performance. The weaker motor consumes less power, but is noisier at all speeds.

I'm Kelly Thomas, I own Installation was quick, easy and a big red sticker told me to reverse the side panels as well as the first line in the instruction manual. I'm also pleased to see the all metal construction, this fan is built to last. (plastic blades will flex and your cfm will drop.) Yea, it's noisy at full speed but I've got some light weather stripping that'll be perfect to significantly reduce the vibrations. We'll mostly run it at low speed anyway which still moves 2510 CFM. In contrast, we recently purchased TWO $8.00 twin plastic window fans from a local big box on closeout, [ regular price ~$20.00+, very much like, the Holmes HAWF2030 ] and those things are not worth spit!! The Air King will just about suck the cat through the door from across the room! I'm confident that my Air King was well worth the money.

Well, the box works for Christmas light storage. It is sturdy and keeps the rats out.

**********************************************

I have read a lot about this fan, both good and bad. With some of the bad reviews I had to ask myself, "How far has fan motor technology progressed in the last 20 years?" I have fans over 20 years old that still run and that made me wonder about the complaints of "motor burn out." Lets take a look at what might be happening with "FANS GONE WILD."

First of all this fan is like an engine, it needs air to run properly. That pedestal fan or ceiling fan in your home has and endless supply of air as it isn't removing or replacing air, it is only moving it around. But a window fan needs more an unobstructed source. Since it is moving air either in or out of a capsule (your home) it must be able to do so freely. I know, I know, I'm just like you. I love to turn a window fan on, crack another window open about 2 inches and feel that wind roaring through but that isn't what is best for the fan in the long term. You need to have at least 2 windows open = to the size of this fan to help it live a long and healthy life. This fan is already working hard moving a lot of air it shouldn't have to struggle for the air.

As well, get rid of the screen where you have the fan installed, that equates to about a 50% blockage. It impedes air movement in either direction. It blocks air being removed by the fan if you are exhausting air from the home or it blocks air trying to enter the fan if you are blowing air into the home get rid of it. As well, this is why you need 2 windows open to run an exhaust fan. Those 2 windows probably have screens that impede the air movement as well. You can leave those screens in place but open at least 2 windows.

The test: Open the intake windows you plan on using while running your fan. With the fan running now crack a door open to the outside of the home. Without closing the door or lodging it in place, gently push the door closed. If the fan is still trying to pull air in through that door, pushing it back open, you need more windows open. Air should be entering your home with the least amount of resistance possible.

My 19 year old son and I installed it he said it was the easiest thing we have ever put together and installed it was. It is a little noisy so you will need to place it away from a main living area. If you are like me however, that fan will put you to sleep in about 5 minutes in your bedroom. It looks good and the Storm Guard feature works easily and as advertised, allowing you to close the window when the fan is not in use.

Remember and trust that this fan is moving a lot of air as advertised, you don't need a small cracked intake window with a 30 knot breeze blowing through it to know that. 2 intake windows open to the size of the fan should do. All you are looking for from where the air is entering the home is the sensation of a vague feel of air movement not a 30 knot breeze. To restrict the air flow of a fan is like driving your car with the parking brake on your brakes will be gone before you know it.

That fan that sits on the counter or pedestal doesn't have to work for air, it is all contained within the capsule, your home, those fans merely moves air. An exhaust / intake fan is different, much different. Make it easy on your fan and make it easy on yourself.

Good fan I like it. If the motor craps out on me this decade I'll let you know and take back all of this.

I haven't disregarded the bad reports I have read, I shall keep the box for a while.

Always

Uncle Jim.

My name is Jim, I have a high school diploma and am a self proclaimed expert in Fanology. All of my fans still run.

Honest reviews on Air King 9166 20" Whole-House Window Fan

I recently purchased a home (stripped foreclosure; the expense of air conditioning was not an option) in Oakland, CA. Like where I used to live (San Francisco), Oakland has a very mild climate most of the time. However, over on this side of the Bay, it tends to get hotter during the day, which can lead to an uncomfortably warm, stuffy house after being closed up all day. Enter the Air King 9166 (psssssst! I bought it at the company website! It's $30 less and FREE overnight shipping!)

I could sit and argue with those who complain that it's not "all metal"; and it's not. However, the blades, motor, fan grill, primary housing and extensions are metal, which is all that matters to me. There is a decorative plastic cover, which I find perfectly acceptable as it doesn't affect the performance in any way.

And WOW does this fan perform! I came home shortly after dusk to a 77 degree house after a fairly warm day. Outside, the temperature was in the 60s. I like it cool; I switched the fan to "medium" exhaust, cracked open a couple of windows and my house temp was 70 degrees in less than 30 minutes.

I'm fortunate to live in an area where the temperature variance between night and day is fairly high if you do too, you'll love this fan. And at bucks, with little noticeable change in your electricity bill, you will too.

We have a steam and radiant-heated home, thus no vents for central A/C. Plus, here in Michigan we don't need it too often. My wife and I prefer fresh air in the home anyway and only use our bedroom A/C unit when absolutely necessary. Now we have this Air King fan which we bought from (great price and delivery). Installation was a breeze (yuk-yuk), but make sure you have a window large enough to accept it. The height specification (26 1/4") is ideal, but the fan needs about 24" of open space to be effective. The 27" minimum width is required, however. Follow the simple instructions, and you should have no problems. Just make sure the window has a screen on it. I installed the fan in my wife's study on the upper floor. Since hot air rises, I prefer this location to a main floor one. By adjusting which windows and doors are open, you can control the amount of air pulled thru the home. Actually the amount is constant for a given speed, but the effect can be enhanced by closing off windows or doors to create a greater venting effect throughout the home. Today, it hit a balmy 90 degrees, and we really felt how well this fan keeps the air 'fresh' and not stagnant. Noise is the biggest negative, however. At the highest speed, my wife can't stand being in the same room with the fan. The low setting is still powerful, but the noise is tolerable. By noise, I mean air 'white' noise and not motor noise. We usually keep the fan on most of the day at the low or mid setting. On hot days, the high setting is best for our 2200 sq ft home. The fan is well-made and I expect it to last for years. This is well worth the comparably high cost vs the cheap box fans.

I installed this thermostat to replace my Honeywell 5-1-1 RTH230B because I wanted a bit more flexibility in scheduling my Asleep and Home times.

This was super easy to install on my two wire system. Less than 5 minutes to get it up on the wall. A nice feature is that once the back plate is connected and mounted, you can just pull the thermostat off the back plate and sit in your easy chair to program. I also like the fact that the display is illuminated so you can see what's going on in the dark. I also like the look of the thermostat, grey face with white border, and soft blue illumination.

I initially set the following program based on my schedule-waking up each weekday at 6:30 AM and going to bed around 10 PM. On Friday's I generally go to bed around 11 PM. On the weekends, I generally get up around 8:30 AM and go to bed around 11 PM, except on Sunday night when I go to bed around 10 PM. Here's how I programmed that schedule into the thermostat:

Mon-Thu Asleep 9:30 PM to 6 AM, 69 Deg F. Away 8 AM to 5 PM, 69 Deg F. Home 71 Deg F (done by setting up Monday and copying to Tue through Thu, which was a nice feature). There are no times to set for the Home period, the thermostat calculates that automatically for you, you just set the desired temp.

Fri Asleep 10:30 PM to 8:30 AM, 69 Deg F. Away 8 AM to 5 PM, 69 Deg F. Home 71 Deg F.

Sat Asleep 10:30 PM to 8:30 AM, 69 Deg F. Away 8:30 AM to 10:30 PM, 71 Deg F. Home 71 Deg F.

Sun Asleep 9:30 PM to 6 AM, 69 Deg F. Away 8:30 AM t0 9:30 PM, 71 Deg F. Home 71 Deg F.

On Friday I discovered (at 1:45 PM) the thermostat was indicating Home instead of Away. So I called tech support. They had the same thermostat in front of them and got the same result. If I set Friday to match the Mon-Thu schedule, the thermostat then indicated Away at 1:45 PM as it should.

They're supposed to get back to me but this is what I figured out. 6 AM is some kind of demarcation line in the thermostat's programming. If you cross that line you get "overlap" (that's what tech support called it) and the thermostat puts the system into Home mode instead of Away. I even tried a factory reset (holding down the + and buttons for more than five seconds). The internal default programming uses 6 AM for every Asleep program.

I'm frustrated that I don't have real control over the programming but for < than $30.00 I guess I can't expect "real" control.

Laying in bed last night I had a vision. As long as I don't cross the 6 AM line with my Asleep times, it should function as I want to. Just have to be a bit creative with the programming.

Here's my current schedule:

Mon-Thu Asleep 9:30 PM to 6 AM, 69 Deg F. Away 8 AM to 5 PM, 69 Deg F. Home 71 Deg F.

Fri Asleep 10:30 PM to 6 AM, 69 Def F. Away 8 AM to 5 PM, 69 Deg F. Home 71 Deg F.

Sat Asleep 10:30 PM to 6 AM, 69 Deg F. Away 6 AM to 8:30 AM, 69 Deg F. Home 71 Deg F.

Sun Asleep 9:30 PM to 6 AM, 69 Deg F. Away 6 AM to 8:30 AM, 69 Deg F. Home 71 Deg F.

By doing that yesterday, at 2 PM Friday the thermostat indicated Away (like it should). I've been monitoring it today (Saturday) and so far so good. It's showing the correct mode and temp for the time of day.

I think I've won but I'll have to monitor each mode throughout the week to be sure. I firmly believe that if you don't cross the 6 AM demarcation with your Asleep times and set short Away times during the weekend, this thermostat will perform as expected. 5 stars for value and ease of mounting, 3 stars for programming. Overall 4 stars in my opinion. If tech support provides a magic answer I'll update this review and overall rating.
