This is a great little fryer. It cooks enough for 2 servings at a time, do not overload. It has a nice list of features. The basket is very handy, the temperature guage and ready light work well and the lid with vents and a filter help reduce the grease smell in your house. Some foods with a lot of moisture will not fry well with the lid closed and even with the lid closed you will not eliminate the odor completely. I set this up on my stove when I use it so that I'm able to use the exhaust fan as well and then I am able to eliminate all of the smell. It cleans up nicely and I'm able to store the oil in it between uses for weeks.

The previous reviews clearly were not using as this is intended. I suspect they were overfilling with oil/food/both.

A great gadget. No spills, no over boils, no stink, no mess.

Ensure your food is patted dry...or use a bit less oil if you don't want an over boil of grease coming out of the top.

It also says, to prevent food gunk sticking to pan..like hand batter fish don't use the basket. I just put the basket down into the grease and drop the fish in. Didn't stick.

Easy to clean. Lid lifts off, and it has a small catch for when you open the lid in the back of the unit.

I think it was easy to clean. Lid comes off, filter pops out, bowl lifts out and the bowl is immersable. Little hot water and Dawn and like new...

It took about 51 ounces of oil.

Order extra filters, it only comes with one.

This fryer is way better than the one I bought a few years ago [the fry baby]. The only word of caution I want to share with folks is to really remove the ice crystals from food before putting in the fryer. The ice crystals make the oil boil up too much and will cause leakage. I had this happen the first time I fried, and since then I rinse the chicken wings under cool water and shake em off before putting them in the basket.

If anyone is wondering, it takes a bottle and a half of cooking oil to get to the "max fill line", which is where they recommend it to be.

The cooking/draining basket is probably the best feature of the product because you can let the oil drain off before putting the food on paper towels. I've noticed a lot less grease on my paper towels after letting the food drain for a couple of minutes.

Honest reviews on Presto 05442 Pro CoolDaddy Deep Fryer

I really wanted to like this one, but as anyone who know anything about fryers knows, temp is key!

This one was at least 40 degrees low w/o food and 60 degrees low with only one tortilla worth of chip! That tells me that, in addition to the thermostat being off, the oil container doesn't have enough mass; Oil has about half the thermal mass of water, so a big thick metal oil container is needed for a quick temperature rebound. 375 is barely enough for most frying, but 310 is too low. That means greasy food and a clogged heart. Returned.

First I should say this was a replacement for a Waring Pro deep fryer, which I loved. Although I hated the clean up part so figured I'd try something new.

What I liked about the Presto Cool Daddy:

Cool touch outside..while it isn't exactly cool it wasn't scolding hot either.

No mess frying. The locking lid and handle (lowering/raising basket) both work great and do prevent any accidental splatters of oil.

Clean up is a breeze.

My big complaint is the oil does not stay hot once you put the food in and it takes it awhile to get back up to the correct temperature, which leaves you with foods soaked in oil as an end result.

I tried different oils (peanut and vegetable). I did the double fry method for the fries, but the same result--fries soaked with oil.

The quality is OK. About what I expected considering it is almost all plastic.

I will be returning the Presto Cool Daddy and purchasing another Waring Pro as it did an awesome job of retaining the temperature to get perfect fries..and other foods. The Cool Daddy just doesn't give foods the crispness I prefer when frying foods.

I purchased this unit a year ago and after falling in love with the look of the stove and somewhat realistic flame, I opted to purchase 2 more for Christmas gifts. During that first initial season of use, which was winter BTW, they worked and heated great! Even on the coldest of days it kept the room warm and toasty,to the point where the unit would need to be shut off.Thats not a complaint, just describing how happy I was with the unit...until.

Did not use the heater or flame for a few months and when it started getting chilly I turned it on and everything was working perfectly.

A few days later while using it, it had turned itself off and would turn back on. This would happen repeated times until the heater would not work at all. I contacted Dimplex (who are great to deal with!) and told them what had happened and they sent me a replacment part at no charge! I was very pleased as the heater had just gone out of its 1 year warrenty. As I said, I am very happy with Dimplex's customer service. The replacment part arrived but did not fix the problem. While I had the heater apart I did notice a wire that had become detatched from a connector to the main power supply. The end was corroded and had shorted out. I haven't contacted Dimplex yet, but will after the holidays. I would love to give this heater a 5 star, but after having problems with 2 of the 3 heaters, I can't confidently give a 5 star. The second heater no longer heats and Dimplex has also sent replacment parts for that at no charge as well.

I have no complaints with the company as they have been fair through all of this, but I just can't recommend this particular product.I expected more than one year of use without any problems.

Bought this electric fireplace stove after purchasing another brand from another company that arrived damaged, two times in a row. This stove from Amazon arrived quickly and was in perfect condition. The stove looks great, very much like a wood stove we had owned many years ago, and it works well. We have a very large unheated bedroom, which reaches a chilly 45 degrees some winter mornings, so we need some type of supplemental heat. In the past we had used a small heater that worked reasonably well, but decided to get one that had aesthetic appeal as well. This Dimplex fits the bill! Because the room is so large it is important to be able to direct the heat where needed, vanity, bed, etc. The stove is light enough to carry and the cord is long, but to facilitate the ease of moving I purchased a reasonably priced small 36 X 18 flatbed dolly to put it on. My plan is to make it look like a hearth by using some left over stone-designed floor covering.

This little stove really does the job. It looks pretty realistic and the heating option is great. We also really like the remote control. Purchased this stove for our basement to take out the chill. We hang out down there a lot as a family and when the kids have their friends over. It looks nice and warms the entire area. We use it almost every day. I would recommend this item. The only issue I had was the shipping. The first stove I received was pretty badly damaged during shipping. Amazon was great though and exchanged it with no problem. The second stove also arrived damaged although not as bad as the first one. Amazon was great through the entire process.

Honest reviews on Dimplex Traditional Electric Stove, DS5629, Black

Originally purchased this electric stove for our three season porch. The first one that arrived was damaged and Amazaon quickly sent a replacement a very, very smooth return process. We received a new one two days later and use it daily out on our porch. We live in New England where the winter months are very cold so, this is a great addition. Our porch is 200 sq ft and the stove has no problem warming up the space. Would highly recommend!

Bought this kit and as soon as I got the package I started making venison jerky and haven't stopped. The dehydrator has a simple design and is easy to use. The sound while on is minimal and I can hardly notice it. All trays are easy to clean and my jerky comes out perfect in 4-6 hours. The jerky gun works pretty well also. It takes some getting use to at first, but after you get the hang of it it's awesome. Cleaning everything is fast and easy. Highly recommend.

I bought this to replace my dehydrator of twenty years,(which works, but very slow). Other than the loud noise, which is very annoying, it dehydrated in the fraction of the time my previous one did. I'm glad I bought it. And the seasonings that came with it are awesome.

Got this for my boyfriend for christmas and he loves it!!! It works great and its very quiet and it gets the food done in a good amount of time.

Honest reviews on Open Country 4 Tray Trialmaster 500 Watt Dehydrator Kit

My mother in law has a NESCO dehydrator (not this model)...15 years old and still working! I bought the FD-62 and it lasted less than two years with ~45 days of actual use. Called NESCO and was told that I could have it repaired for $30-$45 or replace the powerhead for $42. Seriously? Stay away, because when they say one-year warranty, what they really mean is that they don't expect their product to last much longer than one year. Stay away, unless you rarely plan to use it!

Very nice unit. Works like a charm. Low battery indicator. Easy and quick to install. Replaced an analog unit. Great warranty. Operates my a/c and heater. Button on top to light the display. The fan will run 20-30 seconds after shut off which is great. If you want a programmable one get the Venstar t5800. It would be nice if it had backlit buttons and a low-med-hi fan switch like the programmables but at this price it`s worth it.

This item was received as expected and in a timely manner. My old thermostat went out so I needed to get another one as quick as possible. I ordered using 1-3 day shipping and had it in just a few days later. Wanted to find one identical to the previous one so all I would have to do was take the old one off the clip and put the new one on.

I just got this Heater and LOVE IT!! I'm so glad I bought this one because I had just bought a Holmes (non-ceramic) and hated it.

This heater really heats up the space quick, is quiet, has a remote and is perfect in its design because it fits everywhere. Great looking Heater too!!

Is it possible to love a heater? If so, I do. This little guy puts out some serious heat, distributes it well in my 15'x15' room, and does both quietly. Prior to buying this, I had purchased a radiator type heater that just didn't put out much heat so I returned it. I love that I can turn on the thermostat and let it go. Nothing more to think about. The oscillation feature is a huge perk. The only thing I'd add is a feature that automatically turns the unit off if it is knocked over. I paid fifty bucks for it at my local HD, which I did so I could easily return it if need be. No need. I'll run this thing 'til it keels over.

Owned for 2 years now. Bought for my office approx. 300 sq Feet. Work in Las Vegas. This is a fantastic unit! When outside temps were 117, this kept my office down to 78-81. Old window unit in another office is 5K BTU and uses the same power consumption as my Amana at 14K BTU. Installation was easy. Exceeds my expectations.

I just use it to warm my workspace and feet in cold weather. It's a real powerhouse compared to what I'm been using. I like also that you can aim it at the cold desktop (which means you must pick it up and tilt it) and it doesn't shut off. Very high quality product.

I love this thing. Now I can see what the Outside Temp & Humidity are before I step out into it.

Most brands tell the Outdoor Temperature BUT display the Indoor humidity, what good is that??? This unit tells outdoor Temp & outdoor Humidity.

I had the Honeywell unit first and was nervous buying this one hoping they were the same. Oh yeah, they are exact copies with only the name on them being different, but the MEADE unit is less expensive. I don't like paying for names.

Remote:

The unit comes with a remote that you place outside. On the remote there is a display that shows the temp and humidity it is reading. So, if you place the remote on a tree or something you now have 2 units telling the temp & humidity. The manufacture recommends using lithium batteries in the remote if it will be used in extreme cold. I've used regular batteries but have noticed that they tend to die quicker in the cold Winters in Michigan faster than the lithium batteries.

Base:

The base unit has a really nice display making it easy to read from a distance. You can mount the base on a wall or use the fold-out stand to sit it on a table of half-wall which is what I do. There is no backlight but I can still read it in low lighting. The base has little pictures that pop-up to the left of the number readings. The pictures provide a quick way to see if it is wet, dry, and even has a happy face when the humidity versus the temp is suppose to be comfortable. The base unit can read from 3 different remotes in different locations. I can't really see using multiple remotes unless you were monitoring 3 greenhouses or maybe your outside/basement/garage? There is also a memory button to read Max/Min values if you are into seeing how hot or cold it got. Holding the memory button down clears the memory values.

Battery:

I change the batteries in the base unit yearly. You can tell when they are dying as the display starts to get dimmer and dimmer. If the remote battery is getting weak a little battery symbol shows up on the base so you know it is time to replace the batteries in the remote.

Remote Placement:

I would recommend placing the remote in the shade under an overhang on you house. Be sure you keep it out of the sun or you will get some wild readings. I don't think this thing is waterproof so I'd make sure the rain, or a spraying sprinkler, can't get to it.

Setup:

Make sure you have the channel on the remote the same as the channel on the base. When you set it up the first time it is a good idea to have the base and remote next to each other.

Channels:

I think similar outdoor units may transmit on the same frequency. Hopefully your neighbor doesn't have one or if they do you can determine which of the 3 channels their unit uses so you can use another. Some of my older units from Radio Shack only used channel 1 so I use channel 3 on mine to avoid this possible interference.

Scan:

Holding the channel button down for 2 seconds puts the unit in the scan mode. The unit will scan between Indoor temp/humidity as well as the Remote temp/humidity devices connected to it.

Range:

The range of this unit for me is about 100 feet from my living room to the front of the garage. The more walls you pass through the shorter the range. Mine passes though 1 wall but if I move it to pass through 2 walls at 100 feet I will get a straight bars for the temp and humidity on the base telling me it can't get a signal from the remote. Think about your wall/window penetrations and distance run when you place the remote and base in their locations.

Overall, I don't regret this purchase. I even purchased one for my parents in Florida as a Father's Day gift.

We've been using the Honeywell branded version of this unit at the office for the last year, so I ordered the Meade version (to save some money) and an extra remote sensor for home. The main unit I received would not pick up signals from the remotes. The replacement sent from Amaazon is working fine, but the QC issue kept me from giving 5 stars. Our house has a 3-zone heating/cooling system, so I mounted the main unit next to the thermostat on the main level, one remote upstairs in the master, and the add'l remote in the basement. By setting the main unit to "cycle" I get temp/humidity readings in all three levels every 10 seconds. Concerns about distance and the range of the remotes did not materialize. They work fine.

Both of my installations have had the remotes inside, so can't speak to ability of remotes to handle outside conditions. The Honeywill and Meade units (both TM005X) seem to be identical except for logo, so seems like you pay for the Honeywell name but get same unit -so just buy the Meade.

Best Deals on Meade TM005X-M Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermo Hygrometer

It just arrived yesterday; I thought I would share my initial impressions, while they remain fresh in my mind. I'll try to remember to update this later if anything changes.

My bottom line -I recommend it, and would purchase it again. It does just what I want, does it well, and has a fairly simple screen with nice big digits -nice and readable. I am happy with my choice.

Consistency -Very good. I had the base and remote units side-by-side on my desk for awhile to see whether they at least showed the same temperature, and they did -sometimes identical, and never off by more than 0.2 degrees. That could well be round-off error and/or minor air current differences. (Reviews for some other brands/models are not that good.)

Accuracy -I don't have another thermometer to compare against. I can say that the outdoor reading stays within a degree or three of what my computer reports the airport (several miles away) was reporting. The difference appears to just be the airport report lagging. Until proven otherwise, I am satisfied with the accuracy.

[edit (7/5/11) update: I have been constantly comparing it against the thermometer from my Honeywell thermostat for the last week and a half, and they match quite well. This one lags less than the one on the thermostat.]

Precision -0.1 degree -mainly useful to show trends more easily than full degrees would -nice for that.

Functions -Good. All work as advertised. All the functions that I need.

Remote sensor -has a small base, so it can sit upright on a flat surface. Seems like the wind might blow it over, but we shall see. Worst case is I might have to either lay it down, or else wall-mount it. Back attaches with four small Phillips head screws -I presume that is for the weatherproofing -less convenient, but won't matter as long as battery life is good.

Batteries -the product manual advises against rechargeable batteries "Avoid using rechargeable batteries. (Rechargeable batteries cannot maintain correct power requirements.)" Since all I have are rechargeable batteries, I'm using them and they work fine so far.

I note that in the "Battery Safety Information" section they refer to "rechargeable (Nickel Cadmium)" batteries. My hope is that their caution only applies to conventional rechargeable batteries, especially NiCad (since those lose charge even sitting, and might not remain charged enough over time in the thermometer). I am using LSD batteries (Sony Cycle Energy, Sanyo Eneloop, Imedion, etc), and expect that their low self discharge means they will last just fine in the thermometer. I am using the Sony's, but any of the major brands should do as well.

[edit (7/5/11) update: it has operated flawlessly on the rechargeable batteries so far -I'd say go for it. Only time will tell how long they last.]

The following are very very minor points, and do not detract from the 5-star rating:

*) Comfort level indicator -Works as advertised. No problem, but I could do without it. For me, it is just visual clutter.

*) Trend indicator -I have no idea what they are talking about. It is in the on-line description, but I cannot find it in the manual and I have seen nothing on the screen that corresponds.

*) Extraneous -The little thermometer (upper left) and water drops (I presume, lower left) serve no function that I can see. I have not found them in the manual. They have not changed so far. I don't need them as labels -the degree and percent signs are enough -so they are just (minor) visual clutter.

Honest reviews on Meade TM005X-M Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermo Hygrometer

I am not sure if I got a bad unit. I should have read the negative reviews before I got this product. The indoor reading is 8 degrees off compared with two different thermometers including one mercury thermometer. It is showing 80 degrees inside when the actual temperature is 72 degrees verified by the A/C unit thermometer and also a secondary Mercury thermometer.

The Meade customer service was not helpful. I spoke to a person called Christopher. He kept repeating that I should reset the unit. This was the extent of his help. I reset it multiple times. Then I requested to talk to his manager. I was put on hold and then transferred to a Manager. The Manager was extremely rude and told me that there is nothing wrong with the unit and according to him 8 degrees off is normal. He does not want to even consider that there could be anything wrong with the unit. The whole customer service experience was useless. I am sending this unit back to Amazon.

When I purchased this product, the packaging called it a "Water Heater Tester" leading me to believe it was more than a simple continuity tester which a homeowner, handyman or electrician uses to determine if the wire is continuous (not broken) between the clip tip and pinpoint tip on the body of the tool. You can use a standard continuity tester to test the continuity of a water heater element just as easily/well as with using this product. Thankfully, the product is now called "Water Heater Continuity Tester." Remember, of course, this tool is not to be used on live/hot appliances, etc.: it doesn't detect current and use on a live line will ruin/break this tool it detects only continuity.
