Having looked over the generally negative reviews on this site for the Model 44660 thermostat, I thought I needed to chime in a bit with a positive review, based on more than 8 years of total experience with multiple units. I purchased and installed 4 of these thermostats several years ago in my large house, with 4 natural gas furnaces and 4 air conditioners. The units were easy to install and all 4 thermostats have operated flawlessly. One note: I do not use the auto changeover mode from heating to air conditioning, I just manually set the thermostats to "heat" in the winter and to "cool" in the summer. So perhaps that fully automatic mode does not work correctly; I cannot comment on that.

Some reviews have indicated that the 44660 does not display the set and current temperatures at the same time. That is not true. However, to display both the set and current room temperatures, you do need to press the Up or Down Temp button or press the "Home Today" button; the unit will then TEMPORARILY display the set temperature at the middle of the LCD display and the current temperature at the right side of the display. Pressing the Home Today button will temporarily override any pre-programmed setback temperature until the next setback period is reached.

This thermostat is very easy to program, just follow the instructions. I especially like the capability to review energy usage. Press the energy monitor button once and the thermostat will display furnace or A/C run time since midnight; press the energy monitor button again and the thermostat will display total run time for the last 6 days; press the button again and the thermostat will display total run time for the last 30 days; press the button again and the thermostat will display total usage since it was last reset (up to a total of 999 hours and 59 minutes of run time).

Other pros:

Easy to set for temporary or permanent (vacation) overrides of the 4 daily programs

Single button "Home Today" feature allows a very simple override of daily programs

Filter usage is separately monitored from total system run time and can be reset easily

Reasonable battery life (change yearly)

Decent appearance (tilt up cover hides 10 additional thermostat control buttons)

Cons:

Large footprint on wall (this can be a pro if you need to cover up a large hole or spot on the wall)

Backlight is only temporarily on after you press one of the thermostat's buttons

I had originally not thought this was such a great product, it replaces the 'standard' thermostats that our builder installed before we moved here. It turns out I had not completely programmed the unit and once I set my temps for both heat AND cool, the auto mode worked flawlessly.

So to repeat, if it's not switching over properly, make sure that when you are in 'PROGRAM' you set temps for heat AND cool by pressing "SYSTEM" at each set point (up to four points daily). I don't think it was presented clearly in the manual, but I eventually figured it out on my own.

I may even upgrade to a unit that has wireless sensors because the location of my thermostat is in direct sunlight and causes the AC to run when it is not needed. I would have given this unit 5 stars if the manual was a tad more clear about programming.

I bought this thermostat to replace exact product I had. I wanted a new one because my current one would lose all of its settings every 4 or 5 months. But the new one started losing all the settings in the first 2 days and within the first week had lost them twice. The second time we woke up on Saturday morning with the temp at 58 degrees and the thermostat had reset itself to "cool"...running three hours of A/C. I decided to live with the old thermostat. After reading some of the other reviews, I feel that I have the best of the lot.

Honest reviews on Hunter 44660 Auto Saver Programmable Thermostat

About the 11-month mark the unit's time started flashing and would no longer be set correctly. I changed the batteries and after about a week it happened again. Called customer server and they walked me through how to stop the time indicator from flashing after changing the batteries again. I tested the batteries each time and they were fine, but I used another new set anyway. Now it is loses the time and is losing it's programming more frequently as well as being past the warranty period, so I am looking for another thermostat. Don't waste your money or time on this one.

This thermostat looks great, but it doesn't maintain the programmed temperature. After several days I increased the programmed temperature just to get my house to be my desired temperature, but it still won't bring the temperature up high enough. Don't waste your money on this thermostat. I'm taking it back and getting another brand thermostat.

I am using this fan in a small 12 volt refrigerator, in the freezer compartment. It is quiet, and keeps the interior temperatures very even, and allows a lesser setting on the thermostat to keep sub 40f temperatures.

A previous fan by Sunon that had twin ball bearings lasted 5 years in this use. It still works but got very loud.

This Fan was desirable for its very low amp consumption, among the lowest of any fan available, and the reported current consumption is accurate.

My only complaint is that the description and picture mentioned NOTHING about dual zones and two controls. I specifically purchased this because I don't want two zones I sleep alone in my queen sized bed and I usually sprawl diagonally. I have no need for dual zones. So I was disappointed when I saw the second remote in there. And I also don't like the controls. Not because there's anything wrong with them, but simply because with my setup, I hang them through slats on the headboard. With the other sunbeam controllers, with the dial and numbers on the "top" surface, those end up right where I need them and can read them when on the headboard. These have the number pointing straight down then.

Other than that, it works great. The preheat function doesn't really seem too necessary to me, but unlike some out there, it's an OPTIONAL setting on this unit. You can turn it on, adjust the temp where you want it, and leave it go at that. Or you can do that, then hit the preheat to speed it up apparently, but I didn't notice much of a speed up, and when I tried it while laying in the bed, I didn't get melted like some reviewers complained about on some models with preheat.

It's a very soft blanket, very comfortable. You *can* feel the wires in there when you're looking for them, but you don't feel anything from them when you're just laying in bed with this on top of you, and a comforter on top of that.

Heat up time is good and there's no dead spots or anything. I've been running with it on 7 or so. Auto shutoff works well. And unlike some units I've seen recently, there's no hum or buzzing at all... (One problem I had with the heated mattress pad this is replacing).

I bought this last year around the holidays and loved it. I have severe arthritis and the warmth of getting into bed helped me fall asleep so fast..and stay asleep. Because of the reduced pain, I used it all year..just turned the air conditioner down at night in the summer. Eventually it became less and less warm and now it almost nonexistant. The bed never feels warm when getting in. Yet, during the night, it still does have minimal heat but barely. Just very disappointed and really expected it to last at least a few years. My mother is still using her Sunbeam electric blanket from 20 years ago. Sad how products just aren't what they used to be. Hats off to those marketing fellows...guess thats the point..create a product and make sure it only lasts a little while so they will have to buy a new one!

This blanket is really, really soft. It heats quickly. I like to warm the bed before I go to bed. It does a great job.

Honest reviews on Sunbeam Microplush Heated Blanket

So soft and comfortable. Using it on normal nights as a blanket, then cranking it up when needed. Level 3 is the highest I've needed for enough warmth.

This blanket replaces a 10+ year old Sunbeam blanket that has served us well. The pre-heat feature works quite well and the bed is nice and toasty after a very short time. The only real complaint I have is that, even at the lowest setting, the heat output is a bit too much. Perhaps this is somewhat aggravated by the comforter we have on top of the blanket. Other things to note -The old blanket had a type of control that could be hung on the bed rails, out of the way. These controls are table top mount with no provision for hanging. The instruction book that came with it covers a whole family of different Sunbeam models and takes some studying to figure out what features this blanket has and how to operate / program the controls. Overall, a nice soft blanket that puts out some serious heat for those chilly nights. One mystery -why does the price vary significantly depending on the color you choose?

This thermostat is not quite what we expected but can be used. It is advertised as 240 Volt with connections for L1 & L2 but only one output. One of the lines is used to energize the output when there is heat demand and the other line energizes the output when there is no heat demand? The previous thermostat was double throw so both lines were open where there was no heat demand. However, we were able to modify our wiring to accomodate this replacement. It works well and is quite reasonably priced.

The large hysteresis is expected for this inexpensive thermostat. Works good.

I used this in my RV to control the 6 gal hot water tank.

It had a non adjustable 130 degree thermostat that had burned me. No more problems with that!

Philips 431643 Hue Personal Wireless Lighting, Starter Pack Review

Philips 431643 Hue Personal Wireless Lighting, Starter Pack, Frustration Free
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

First off Hue is expensive and not something anybody really needs. However, it's one of those things that has a high cool factor and if your into gadgets whats $200 bucks. I am a gadget guy and had the $200 so I went for it. Hue arrived via Amazon, so he was right on time and a day early. I couldn't wait to get him out of the box and give him a test run. It was incredibly easy to set up. I mean really easy, so don't worry about that. First download the app on to your Ipad or Iphone from the Apple App Store. Secondly plug the Hue Bridge into your router with the included ethernet cable (you need an open port on your router) and screw the pricey bulbs into a fixture. Then push the button on the Hue Bridge and grab your device and start making rainbow colored rooms. Everything worked perfectly the first time, the router found the bulds and the app controlled the whole thing. Really very cool, it worked exactly as it should.

One other thing about Hue, it does not work with Dimmer switches. Hue has a built in dimmer system, so you need to switch out the dimmer switches or keep them on full power all the time. That is easier said than done as by habit you turn the lights off when leaving a room. Not having the switch turned on makes the light bulbs not respond, So you need to have all the lights switched on with power flowing. Hue then controls the power to the lights via the bulbs,

Living with HUE

Your whole life you are conditioned to turn off lights when you exit the room. You just flip the switch and its done. Same thing for turning on the lights, its easy and simple. Hue changes this simple everyday thing into a much more complicated process. To turn on or off the lights you must first locate your phone or iPad wherever you laid it down or worse someone else takes it away to another room. Once you find your Ipad/Iphone,. enter your lock code and then find the Hue App open it and then look for the turn off lights button. This drives me nuts, it be no problem if you had an Ipad at every light switch. This is the one thing that I think makes Hue totally not practical for anyone but a single person living alone. Imagine hunting down the iPad that your kid took upstairs etc etc.

This issue changed the relationship i thought I would have with Hue. I thought, this would be the future of lighting, sit back adjust the lights and live in a full spectrum of mood altering colors.

Reality is Hue traps you in a room where you can't turn on or off the lights without locating your phone! I was ready to kick Hue out of my house as he was not what I thought he would be. Then it dawned on my I was expecting to much of Hue, especially in my house. Hue became an expensive accent light here and there. We put him in some cheap spot light fixtures and move him around the house. I would take him into the bedroom and he would turn it into the glowing red hot love volcano. On Sundays, we turn the kitchen lime green and have breakfast on Mars, the kids love it! You can have a lot of fun with Hue just use your imagination.

Hue works great and it is really cool. Lots of wow factor, just think about the practicality of Hue in your home. For us it went from a serious lighting system to basically a toy we really enjoy. For my family, Hue has been great, it has brought us some fun times and it creates a lot of joy and laughter. What else could you want from any product.

I hope that my experience with Hue helps you understand the product better, it's uses and it's limitations. Thanks for reading.

At first, the only way to I could justify this $200 item for gadget junkies is to consider it a new fun "toy". Well, they are a TON OF FUN, especially if you add a couple of extra Hue apps. People love them and most buy their own set soon. However we quickly realized these are also enhancements to our home which are totally worth the price. Our expectations were exceeded and in 3 weeks we went from the 3 pack starter kit to 8 bulbs, yes 5 more bulbs at $60 each and we are totally happy with them.

Update Sep 2013: We added the Hue LightStrip over the fireplace, it's great at lighting the wall only. Hue app as of 1.4 now syncs scene timers on the Hue app between IOS devices.

Here's how we use them:

* Control lighting color/intensity for activities like watching TV (blue), entertaining (purple), cooking (various colors), etc.

* Automatically turn on Living Room (med/blue) and kitchen night lights (low purple) at 8:30 , bedroom night light at 11:00 (red). They all turn off 1:00am if we forget.

* No need to go to the wall dimmer to adjust lights as the evening changes, the iPad is also our universal remote (Roomie, which supports Hue) and our cordless phone (Bria) so one device controls everything.

* From bed, turn all the lights off with one tap, no more "who's getting up to turn off the lights".

* Multiple bulbs in a room on the same circuit are dimmed independently, much better than a single wall dimmer! Different areas of a room (doorway vs seating vs TV area) can have different intensities or colors. We have a deck with 2 bulbs, one near the door is brighter than one near seating.

* Use them as night lights since the bulbs maximum power draw is only 8.5 watts. When set low they draw about as much as a normal nitelight, 3-4 watts.

* Control lights remotely from iPhones wherever we are. Turning them on for security or our pets, or off when we forgot.

* The geofencing feature turned on the lights as we drove into the driveway, even with the Hue app closed!

* If there is an intruder we can turn any/all lights on from bed using iPads or iPhones which are always at arms reach.

* We replaced our dimmers ($45-60 each) and simplified wall wiring.

* My wife got the "disco" ball she always wanted in the kitchen (don't ask), but better, hue has strobe and other effects such as changing to music with additional apps.

BASICS

The bulbs replace a convention light bulb. They can display a range of colors and intensities, all controlled from an iPad, iPhone or iPod. I was very concerned to control something as critical as lights via wifi. I did not want to deal with issues for something that should always just work. Well, 3 months later and there have been no issues at all, even after power failures timers work perfectly.

OPERATION

The bulbs must have full AC power, they cannot be dimmed via wall dimmers. When powered off then on they are white, the Hue app controls everything after they are on. You should always leave the wall switch on for most or all indoor bulbs. However, there may cases where you want them powered off then on with a wall switch. For instance, we use an iPad to control on/off of all 5 inside bulbs, but 3 bulbs on 2 outside decks are turned on/off via wall switches while iPad controls their colors, etc. ISSUE: We had problems with electronic dimmers even when set full on that required us to change them to simple switches. You have to learn not to turn off the lights when leaving a room, this is a hard habit to break.

If you plan to install Hue bulbs in multiple rooms it helps a LOT if you have app devices in different rooms, then you can control any light in the house from any room with an app device. This makes a huge difference because without them you must locate your app device to change a light. Of course you could carry the device while in the house but most people don't want to do that. We were lucky to already have multiple iPads since we use them as A/V remote controllers and cordless phones.

BRIGHTNESS

We were surprised that when set to bright white they look brighter than 60 watt bulbs. The 3 in the kitchen are more than enough for normal activity but there are also spotlights over the sink and stove. Our decks are now much brighter than before.

SETUP

Initial setup is very simple and quick, we had it up and running in about 6 minutes, deciding what you want and customizing the first three bulbs may take 10-15 minutes. Here are the steps:

1. Download and install the Hue app on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch from the iTunes App store, it's free.

2. Plug in the Hue Bridge into an ethernet connection with the included or other cable, No Wifi on the bridge. Most people will connect to a router but other devices connected to the router will work. In my case the Bridge is connected to an Airport Extreme in bridge mode which is connected to an ethernet switch on the other side of the house which is connected to a Zyxel router connected to DSL. If all that works with no changes then most of you should be fine.

3. Plug the Hue Bridge in the wall for power.

4. Once the bridge is active, screw one to more bulbs into sockets and power them up.

5. This step is needed for EACH iPad, etc. that has the Hue app installed: Start the app, then push the button on the Hue bridge.

6. Play with colors and intensities.

To allow syncing of scenes (you will learn them easily) between app devices (iPads, etc.) OR use geofencing (see caveat below) which will turn lights on as you get close to home (or auto turn them off as you leave) you must:

7. Setup a free ID at the meethue.com web site.

8. Go to the Hue app settings and login to the meet hue site. You can leave the app logged on all the time.

COST

They can save energy when used as timed night lights, and eliminate the need to install dimmers.

CAVEATS:

* Geofencing only works with 1 device, you can't have 2 iPhones using geofencing at the same time. Hopefully, this will be fixed.

* The Hue app groups bulbs into "scenes" for 1 click operation, but multiple scenes for a room can't be grouped together into a folder to simplify organization. Customizing "scenes" is a little cumbersome and could be easier, but we picked it up quickly.

* Hue can't replace all lighting because there are no hardware controls for them, some rooms are impractical to run from an app like a closet, bathroom, etc. I would love Philips to make a wall mounted a/c powered controller.

* Update Sep 2013: Syncing now updates scene timer settings between multiple IOS devices.

After only a month we are sold on this technology and will never go back, this is the future of lighting. We purchased ours at Apple stores since it was easy to bring back quickly if we didn't like them.

Best Deals on Philips 431643 Hue Personal Wireless Lighting, Starter Pack

$200 bucks for 3 light bulbs? Hmmm... Well, all I can say is that if you are a techie and enjoy adjusting your environment (music, lighting, climate, etc) this is your gadget. One of the few things I have purchased that my wife is learning to use because she likes the impacts. The bulb over our infant in the kitchen gets a warm mellow glow while the 3 over her head get full blast energize. We have no regrets about buying the starter pack and 3 additional bulbs. It is not a need but if you can toss $300 bucks to the pile that is for having fun in life get them. They perform well, software is great and got it working on three phones without issue. Even adding the extra bulbs was easy. Most fun I've had since the iPad came out.

Honest reviews on Philips 431643 Hue Personal Wireless Lighting, Starter Pack

I received this product from my girlfriend for Christmas, and I have to say that it is the most reliable wifi enabled device I own. Since we've installed them, we have had zero issues with the connectivity. Another nice aspect of the design is that you can control them from your computer as well. You can also get involved in the Phillips Hue community, and sample other members' scenes, or even share your own. It's incredibly easy to install.

Another thing to mention is that the lights can either be turned on wirelessly or by a conventional switch. This is great if you want to put these in your overhead fixtures, but still want the convenience of switching them on and off without your phone handy -yet still have the ability to change their colors when you do. Extremely handy for lamps, especially those in different rooms, or areas of your home. And because they work remotely, you can check the app to make sure you didn't leave the lights on when you're away.

Don't listen to the poor reviews about them being to expensive, or how easy it would be to do it yourself. The ease and quality of this product alone makes the purchase worth the price. Controlling the lighting from multiple devices is a breeze, and being LED technology, these bulbs should last for well over 50 years. If you like gadgets and can afford this product, the hours of fun you will have will completely out weigh the price tag.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Philips 431643 Hue Personal Wireless Lighting, Starter Pack

First off wow. I love these bulbs. Second of all these bulbs are married to the receiver they come with, how ever adding bulbs to them is not a problem at all, one controller can handle 50 bulbs trust me I only have one controller for the entire house, and the bulbs can be labeled anything you want like what room and what socket they are in... example: say you have two bulbs in your bed room one in the closet and one in the main area, you can name them on the app what one they are, or if you have a lamp like mine that has five sockets I labeled mine living room lamp bulb one, living room lamp bulb two and so on. Yes these bulbs are expensive... but let us look at this, how many other lighting effects can you use your Apple devise with, or any other smart devise with and how much are they? That's what I thought. Here is the skinny if you don't have an Apple devise don't fret they still work like a standard 60watt bulb using the light switch and give off the same wavelength (color) you just have to use a computer with internet and a wireless router to turn on or off or change the color. Energy savings, these bulbs (if you are using an Apple devise or computer to control them) use .3watts when "off" because they have to maintain a connection to the internet, as for when they are on most I have ever gotten mine to show is 6.4 watts on the brightest whitest setting, and if you just want it to turn on and off and look like a normal 60watt bulb, these bulbs use 5.5 watts. As for the app that controls it... how in the heck are people having a hard time with it?!?! The app does save all of your work, just be smart enough to press save instead of cancel and you have nothing to fear. If you don't know how to plug and play then the problem is not the app it is you. Instead of setting a timer on my phone I let my lights tell me. Set a time using the app and set your lights to change to a different color. When your whole house tells you about your laundry is done by changing the color it is really really hard not to take notice. You can control your lights from anywhere if you have an internet connection (yes even cell phones) and an internet browser. Going away for the week? Set your lights to turn on and off and exactly what lights to turn on and off. The control is phenomenal. Only thing the app developers lack currently is a random setting. Say you are having a party and you want the lights to go crazy like at a club or bar... currently there is no function to allow your lights to change colors randomly other than that I cannot complain. As stated before these bulbs are not cheap ($59.99 each) but they do use ten times less energy than a standard incandescent light bulb and two times less energy than an equivalent compact Florence bulb without the annoying yellow light and they last thousands and thousands of times longer than any other bulb and give you any color you want, think of all the holidays like Halloween and Christmas or Valentine's day the possibilities are literally endless. Give it a shot you will find yourself purchasing more bulbs after your starter pack.

I bought a couple of these thermostats for our basement. It was a simple installation maybe 5-10 minutes each and I did not set my house on fire. They do not keep the basement at quite the temperature they're set at, but they do keep it warm. I usually just crank them to 5 degrees warmer than I want it. However, I think this is partially due to the fact we've got two little baseboard heaters heating 1000 square feet. So they may not be miscalibrated, it may just be underpowered heaters.

I was surprised at the amount of weight this will push; however, the drawback is that once it is attached to both sides of the cold frame, you can't open the cold frame from the top to get inside and minister to the plants. DH tried to construct something that would allow one end of the arm to detach, but without being firmly screwed together, the top would get blown open and completely flip over in the wind.

It took a while to figure out the best way to mount this because I didn't want to drill thru the plastic as shown. All I needed was a metal tee from the hardware and than used all the parts as supplied and mounted every thing on the frame. It works perfectly.

Bought this unit at Christmas and finally installed it today March 30, 2012. I was very disappointed in the flame. The flame is only one color, light yellow, which makes it look very fake and faint. If you have the light on or it is daytime you can barely see the flame and my bathroom is very dark because my skylight isn't installed yet. I am sure once the skylight is installed I won't be able to see the flame during the daytime. I also thought the sand was movable and replaceable but it appears to be fixed and sealed in place. I didn't like the pattern of the sand and wanted to rearrange it but I guess I will have to live with it the way it is. Another design flaw is that the model and general information of the unit is printed in white on the black metal on the right side of the fireplace where the manual controls are located. It looks ghastly. We have a mirror on the wall which is perpendicular to the wall the fireplace is on and it shows the reflection of all the writing in the mirror. We are going to buy a piece of sheet metal to cover it up. I am sure they could of printed that information somewhere else on the unit. I do like the modern look of the fireplace and it does look nice installed in the wall and does put out some heat however, not as much heat as I expected from reading the specifications. It is spring here in California and I wonder if it will put out enough heat in the winter time. I bought this because I had heard that the flames looked very realistic and the videos I watched of other Dimplex fireplaces showed at least 2 colors in the flame. Trust me the flame in this fireplace has only one color and they must be adding colors to the pictures. I wished I could of seen the fireplace before I bought it but couldn't find it anywhere. I would not of bought this fireplace if I had seen the poor quality of flame color.

Update

My husband put a black metal plate over the model information and it looks a lot better now.

This was the 2nd Dimplex electric fireplace that I ordered from Amazon. Unfortunately it too was a disappointment. Again, the flame isn't coming from sand, but instead an odd looking fabric that did not look appealing. My biggest complaint though was that Dimplex does not stress that this fireplace really needs " In Wall" mounting, not just "on "the wall. It has a large profile that if not mounted "in the wall" is just too big and awkward looking "on" the wall. It sticks out quite a bit and just couldnt be integrated nicely onto the wall without looking like the pink elephant in the room. Had I been willing to cut through drywall and install, I am certain it would have been pretty. I returned this fireplace unfortunately. On a more positive note, Amazon makes returns so incredibly easy that one should atleast order the fireplace and see if it works for them, if not, the return process is painless.

The company was great! I wish I could have picked the right one for I still need it... But the company went out of its way to try to make things good. That's why I am giving a five star rating.

Review of MAX Fan Heater

MAX Fan Heater - Red

I've had one of these for several years and I've just ordered a second one for another room in our house. We live in northern California and use ours to keep our daughter's room a few degrees warmer than the rest of the house at night (71 or 72 instead of the 66 degrees we set our central heat for). Positives: cute, stays cool to the touch, doesn't heat up the cord or make worrying electrical noises or seem cheap and scary like other space heaters. Quiet fan operation doesn't disturb her if I turn it on or off at night, and the controls seem pretty simple to me. Negatives: I agree with the other reviewers that this is never going to help you heat an unheated workshop or in a very cold climate. It works great for a bathroom, bedroom or an office to supplement central heat when you don't need to keep the whole house as warm. For us the only real negative is that the thermostat could be a little more reliable mostly it seems to approximately work, but sometimes I'll notice that the heater runs the room up into the upper 70s and it doesn't shut off, even though when you test the thermostat setting by hand it should have. We use a Belkin outlet timer cutoff in the winter to plug this into so that it doesn't run more than 3 hrs at night and we don't have to remember to check.

This unit has a cool design but does not put out any heat. Even on the high heat setting the heat this unit puts out feels like tepid water. I will be returning this for a refund.

I have had this fan for more than 5 years, and don't understand the negative reviews here. It looks good, and puts out a lot of heat very quickly. It is a heater fan, so do expect a little noise from the fan blades.

Honest reviews on MAX Fan Heater

Nice design and function. Heats a room 11x13 very nicely. However, the heat coils makes a audibly annoying whirring sound when put to level 2 (max). Its still there on mode 1 but less bothersome. Still, wish the heat coils made no sound at all.

This is a piece of junk. It doesn't put out much heat, and died after a couple years of minimal use. It probably would have died sooner if we had used it more, but since it was basically useless, we didn't use it much. Avoid, you can get a much better heater for half the cost.

I have owned a few of these hot air fan heaters and this is by far the best. I have a large apartment with about a 12' high ceiling and I can notice the "vornado action" moving a feather hanging from a dreamcatcher at the corner of the ceiling with the fan sitting on the middle opposite side of the floor. This shows me that the fan is truely pumping the air around as it is heating and it is not just a gimmick or false claim. Other fans I have had did not do this and took like an hour to heat the room. The Vornado takes the chill out of the room within 15 minutes and is nice and warm reaching thermostat temperature by 30 minutes (most of the time depending on how cold it is.) What's even more impressive is that it is also so quiet I don't even know it's on sometimes!

However, since nothing is perfect here are a some design suggestions for the manufacturers:

1) The Sony remote problem is true, I have the same problem but thankfully my bed blocks my TV remote's "line of fire" so it rarely turns down the heater but it has on several ocassions--Vornado should have picked a more obscure signal to use for the remote.

2) The remote needs to be more ergonomic so it's easy to hold and there should be indentations on the buttons so that you know what to press when fumbing in the dark--as it is now it's too small and impossible to tell if you're even holding it in the right direction.

3) The fan is so quiet it would be nice if the red "on" light would actually turn green so that you know it's on.

4) The blue LCD display is way too bright--it's like having 2 nightlights on in the room...very annoying and I wish it was darker since there is no need for it to be so bright (I'd put black tape over it but then can't see the temperature).

Overall though, only buy this if you are truely a design freak, it is beautiful and the quality of the metal housing is well worth the price if you are willing to drop that much money on a heater to just look stylish.

In terms of function though you can get the exact same results by buying the much cheaper (about half price) original Vornado without the remote. A friend of mine has this original Vornado which is what inspired me to buy mine. There is also a "clone" type heater competing with the original Vornado made by Holmes and I suspect the performance of that one is going to be very comparable and also a bit less expensive. Hope this helps you decide!

We purchased the Vornado Touch Stone Vortex Heat 500 about a month ago. We have a room that is consistently colder than the other rooms in the house. We don't understand WHY it is colder since it was an addition, attached to the main central air /forced air heating unit, is actually BETTER insulated with more up-to-date windows, but is about 6 degrees colder (warmer in the summer) than any other room in the house. I plugged the Vornado in and the room is actually WARM! I am very impressed with this little, very quiet... you can't hardly tell it is running!... machine. I would definately recommend it to anyone that has this problem. We DO have a Sony TV/Remote, but the TV is in another room and doesn't affect the use of the machine. Actually, I leave ours on all the time and don't even need the remote. If this is the case I would go with the pp suggestion with getting the version without the remote. Had I realized that it was just as powerful I would have saved a few dollars and gone with the remoteless one for our use. HIGHLY recommend this item. I am very pleasantly surprised at how well this little unit works.

We have been using this heater for about 5 months now in our infant daughter's room. Up until last night, the product was fine. Last night we could smell a burning smell from outside of her room coming from the heater! The heater has never been moved and is always set to the same temperature so we are not sure what happened. Needless to say, this was extremely scary and we won't be using it anymore! All reviews I've read for the product are generally good so perhaps this is a fluke.

The LCD light on the top is also very bright and annoying it never turns off.

Update 2 months after bought it it broke, the fan intermittently stops running & the heat stays on so it starts burning itself up, it filled the room with strong burning smell/smoke. NOT safe.

I bought the Touchstone for my home office. It's a decent space to heat but I wanted to heat only that space rather then heating my whole house. The Vornado does the job. It produces a good amount of heat fairly quickly. The room gets comfortably warm in a matter of minutes. Perhaps about 10 minutes for a 10X12 room with a 8' ceiling. The heater is pretty quiet, I know it's there but it is not enough to disturb me while I am working. The remote and digital display are kind of unnecessary. In retrospect I would have bought a unit that does not have those features, if I could save money. This unit is pretty pricey. It works well, does the job but, is $$$.

The thermostat was inexpensive and does the job as stated. There are four settings per day [presets]. The programming for weekdays and weekends are done separately. It has two overides: one for temporary bi-bass [from one preset to another] or a vacation overide [until you return home]. The only thing negative about the thermostat is that it doesn't light up for easier viewing in dim light or darkness.

When the description of the thermostat says that it can be programmed for "every day of the week," that does not mean than there can be a separate cooling and heating program for each day of the week. The thermostat can be programmed so that there are separate heating and cooling programs for weekdays (MTWThF) and others for weekends (SaSu). The weekday heating or cooling program must have 4 settings for a 24 hour period and similarly for weekends. For example for either heating or cooling, it can be set for one temperature from 6 AM to 8 AM, another for 8 AM to 5 PM, another from 5 PM to 10 PM, and a fourth from 10 PM to 6 AM. The times at which it switches temperatures can be adjusted. To change from the Heating programs to the Cooling programs, you move a switch from "Heat" to "Cool."

If the programming limitations suit your weekly schedule, then you will probably be happy with this thermostat. We have had ours for over a year and have had no problems with it. Installation for our all-electric system was fairly easy. Based on our power bill, the thermostat has saved us money.

I have had the Hunter 44110 for a number of years, and it basically does the job. But, once or twice a month it completely loses the day, time and program, and has to be completely re-programmed. When this happens, I check or replace the batteries. But it still loses memory even with known good batteries.

Honest reviews on Hunter 44110 Set & Save Programmable Thermostat

We have 2 furnaces in our house & have an older Hunter model on one furnace & I was searching for a new Hunter for the second furnace. We installed this one at Thanksgiving time & we couldn't be happier. It was a breeze to install & we haven't had any problems with it at all. I think it's a great product & a super price.

This is a decent thermostat. It is easy to install and fairly easy to program, but if you live in a dry climate like Albuquerque, you should think twice about getting this thermostat. It has very poor electro-static discharge (ESD) protection. I have "killed" three of them just by walking up and touching the buttons. I have two installed in my house and I like the horizontal form factor. At first it seemed easier to just buy another one to replace a dead one without having to instal a new bracket, etc. Two days ago, I killed another one and am tired of it. I will be looking for a different thermostat.
