My wife and I bought the T-fal deepfryer and we love it. I read all the reviews and noted that one person had complained of finding that his T-fal deep fryer had leaked oil all over the counter. Finding few bad reviews, we decided to buy it. Sure enough, after the fryer cooled and the oil emptied into the reservoir there was oil all over the counter. It did not take a rocket scientist to figure out the reason. When we filled it prior to turning it on, we had a gallon jug of cooking oil which we emptied into fryer. A gallon is 3.78 liters (16 cups) and the capacity of the reservoir is 3.3 liters (14 cups). We noticed when we filled it that it was slightly over the max line but did not give it a second thought. Unfortunately, when the machine cooled and the oil drained into the reservoir, the extra two cups of oil had no where to go but onto the counter. THERE IS NO FUDGE FACTOR ON THE MAX LINE, DO NOT OVERFILL IT. Any oil that is over the Max line will end up all over your counter. We learned our lesson and have not overfilled it since. After that fist incident we have used our T-fal deep fryer several times and it works perfectly. The food comes out perfect, clean up is a snap and we would never trade it for anything else.

This is my first home deep fryer. My only other experience is with professional fryers in restaurant settings. Therefore, this review is more for those, like me, who haven't deep fried at home.

I guess the main thing I learned so far is frying is not as simple as some other modes of cooking you're going to be using nearly a gallon of oil that has to heat before and cool after. Like another review pointed out, when the oil is at cooking temperature, it puts out a lot of oil vapor and odor in the air, so unless you use it in a very well ventilated area, your kitchen and house will reek. Bottom line: deep frying takes a bit of commitment.

So what about the fryer? Most of the reviews I read about this seemed to be pretty much on the mark. Here's my primary thoughts:

The unit has a decent sized capacity.

Most all if it can go in the dishwasher, but will take up half or more of the dishwasher space this thing is not tiny.

The heating element thermostat is a dial with numbers marked on it in other words, it is not digital, so I feel I should get a thermometer to confirm the oil temperature.

A selling point on this rig, at least for me, is the automatic filtering of the oil. (This amounts to a drain in the bottom of the fry chamber with a metal screen). I moved the fryer out to my garage after it had cooled for a couple hours, hoping reduce the smell of oil in my kitchen, in the morning I found it in a small pool of oil several ounces of oil either did not make it to the storage container. Either it leaked out of the top of the oil reservoir because its top didn't seal or it leaked as it was filtering from the fry chamber. Someone else's review claimed a much larger spill, making me think one must be very careful getting the reservoir properly sealed and positioned.

My plan is to put a large cooking sheet pan under the entire unit next time. Yes, there will be a next time, although my review may not sound glowingly positive, I think this is a good unit. I just wanted to provide a review that will help someone else make the right decision for themselves. For me, if I knew what an impact frying has on the overall environment of the kitchen, I made have gone a different route. I plan to install a vent in my kitchen this year, in the meant ime, I will likely use this like my gas grill outside.

This machine is brilliantly simple, easy to use, easy to take apart and clean, and so well thought out it might not have another that can best it.

Downside: the odor filter really doesn't filter that much, or that well. You still get huge plumes of vaporous oil rising up, and unless you use it under a hood your house will be a greasy mess. Luckily the design comes with two plastic side handles so you can easily move it on and off of the stove top where it can billow into your vent hood.

Honest reviews on T-fal FR7008002 Ultimate EZ Clean 2.65 -Pound / 3.3-Liter Stainless

I've been making fried chicken, french fries etc in a cast-iron skillet forever and I wondered why it is that I threaten to burn down the house every time I do that. I've had more than a few spillovers where I've been anxiously grabbing for the fire extinguisher. Nuts to that.

I've had this fryer for a few weeks, used it six times, and I love it. The temperature gage is accurate enough, the drain/drawer thing is completely awesome and it seems to be solid in construction.

Addressing some things others have mildly complained about:

1. Oil drainage. I went for broke and just put this thing on the counter and let it drain. It hasn't spilled a drop. If you have drainage problems it's likely you're filled over the fill line, or (egads) you re-filled the fryer while the drawer was full. Or perhaps the valve is defective. The lever for drainage locks and should be foolproof. :)

2. Heating indicator light. I'm 6'2" and I can see the thing fine. :) If I were any shorter, though, yeah, bad positioning since to see it you'd have to lean over a hot device, or look at it from the side.

3. The fact that the light turns OFF when heating is complete. This is standard operating procedure for any device that heats up. The reason things work like this is so you know they are working. If it was the opposite way and, say, you forgot to plug the device in you might be sitting there forever waiting for it to heat up and thinking it's broken. The light coming on immediately when flipping the switch on indicates 'all systems go'. Plus, the amount of time to preheat vs the amount of time you will likely be cooking is a lot less. This will help the little bulb last longer as it will not be in use as often.

Anyway, big thumbs up for this device. The lack of timer does not bother me. My regular oven/stove has a timer (as does everyone's) but nobody uses them. I wouldn't likely use one on a deep fryer, either, just one more thing to have to reach over a hot device to use/touch.

If I had to nit-pick one tiny thing it's that the basket/fryer isn't quite deep enough to fry whole chicken pieces in one shot. You'll find yourself flipping breasts and thighs. Not a huge deal but just another half inch of depth would be perfect.

We bought this fryer for Christmas because we like fried foods on occasion and do not like the hassle of dealing with oil or the frying smell. We also wanted a fryer that is large enough to fry more than a few pieces of food at one time. It appeared that this unit from T-Fal would meet all of our needs. Unfortunately, the actual "recommended" capacity for this fryer is one pound not the 2.65 that is in the advertisement. While this is a fairly large fryer the actual usable capacity is much different than what is indicated in the product description. The permanent "odor" filter is actually a very thin piece of aluminum that only blocks some of the splatter from the fryer, it blocks no odor, none, zero. This fryer will make your entire house smell like fried food. We tried a small batch of cheese sticks (they turned out great) the whole house reeks of oil.

On a positive note, the auto drain function is terrific; the fryer is easy to use and fried up what we have tried very nicely. I will being trying to reach T-Fal to see if they have a charcoal filter available for this unit, if not it will be sent back. For $120 it should at least contain the "odor" filter they advertise and they should be more reasonable with the estimates of capacity.

When the matress pad came and I put it on the bed (which is a Select Comfort with an articulated frame), it worked for a part of the first night and then began flashing F2 which is their code for "this isn't working any more". I called Dealyard and they agreed it was broken and I should return it. They said I just had to return it via UPS and leave a message for them, and they would send out a new pad before they had even received the original back. Good service, I thought I'm impressed. However, a week later I still didn't have it and had to call again. There was some glitch between the message (which they had logged) and the send it out again. So, not so good execution of a good strategy. We got the new one and guess what one night; started flashing F2 again and wouldn't work. I was now very unhappy and ready to return the product and give up. BUT I tried one more thing I moved the electronics away from close proximity to the Select Comfort electronics and GUESS WHAT it now works fine. I gave it a "3" because it's only been a week but am recommending the product because it looks like the problem could be Select Comfort's rather than the mattress pad. Just a warning if you're using multiple electronics, especially with remotes.

We have placed this Mattress Pad on a split king bed by select number. It fits the bed nicely and stays on and in place when the bed is adjusted. The heat from the pad when set on high is appropriately warm enough but does not ever seem to be burning hot even when left on all night. This is great for injuries and back problems.

Love this heated mattress pad!!! Unlike so many that the majority of the heat is at the bottom of the bed, this evenly distributes the heat throughout the whole mattress. Has nice big pockets to fit over the mattress. Nice & cozy!!!!!!!!!!

I've had two of these units in two years, and suffered through the same issue with both. After just a few months in the first unit, and a few weeks with the second unit both would not fire the furnace. They would indicate that the furnace was running and the manual blower controls would operate the blower, but they would not ignite the furnace. I tested the controls by switching back to an older manual unit and the furnace operated perfectly. Did a quick search and found a number of threads indicating similar problems. Seems that the unit can't supply the correct amperage to open the ignition circuit in a number of different units. Called Honeywell and found that not only to they have a completely useless Indian customer service group, they're hours are exactly the hours that I'm working or commuting and I'm a normal 9 to 5. So buy one if you feel lucky, but keep in mind that most people are going to write a positive review before it craps out on them. It's does a great job with cooling, but if you have a gas central heating and cooling system and you actually want heat in the winter SKIP THIS UNIT!

DON'T BUY ONE!

The instructions don't tell whether this will work on a 2 wire gas furnace system, but it does. Just hooked the existing red wire to the Rc slot (which comes with a little jumper cable over to the Rh slot which I left in place). Hooked the white wire to the W slot and it works great. Removed an old 2 wire mercury switch. The system is heat only. It uses two AA batteries.

My RTH2310 started to malfunction after a year. The problem is that the relay that closes the circuit to turn the furnace on started to intermittently fail to energize, even though the flame icon appeared (indicating the thermostat is trying to turn on the heating system). The Honeywell "help line" was useless. They kept telling me to check the furnace and refused to acknowledge that I was able to troubleshoot the problem to the relay. Then, further feedback from them stated that 25-30 VAC is needed on the OUTPUT contacts of the relay to enable it to energize. Incredible!!! I will NEVER purchase another Honeywell product.

Honest reviews on Honeywell RTH2310B 5-2 Day Programmable Thermostat

I bought this thermostat without checking the reviews. It worked for one month, then on a cold Saturday morning, it locked up and would not adjust heat. After a half hour of trying to fix this thermostat I promptly smashed it with a hammer. I then called the 800 number on the thermostat to personally thank the company for the hour round trip I made to purchase this item and then another hour round trip I am getting to go on to replace it. I am writing this review in hopes that it will save another poor guy a wasted Saturday afternoon replacing this and missing out on spending the time with his family/friends or just relaxing and enjoying his day off.

simple, straight forward and low priced. this fryer was made for people who fry once a week or less.pre-heat for 10 minutes and you're ready to fry at 375 degrees which just happens to be the perfect temp. for frying most foods. use a splatter screen to catch any popping grease & help control odors.the plastic lid is nice for storing oil for re-use.if you fry a lot, you might want to consider paying more for a model with basket & temp controls etc., however the chef's fryer is perfect for the infrequent fry cook.

The thermostat was inexpensive and does the job as stated. There are four settings per day [presets]. The programming for weekdays and weekends are done separately. It has two overides: one for temporary bi-bass [from one preset to another] or a vacation overide [until you return home]. The only thing negative about the thermostat is that it doesn't light up for easier viewing in dim light or darkness.

When the description of the thermostat says that it can be programmed for "every day of the week," that does not mean than there can be a separate cooling and heating program for each day of the week. The thermostat can be programmed so that there are separate heating and cooling programs for weekdays (MTWThF) and others for weekends (SaSu). The weekday heating or cooling program must have 4 settings for a 24 hour period and similarly for weekends. For example for either heating or cooling, it can be set for one temperature from 6 AM to 8 AM, another for 8 AM to 5 PM, another from 5 PM to 10 PM, and a fourth from 10 PM to 6 AM. The times at which it switches temperatures can be adjusted. To change from the Heating programs to the Cooling programs, you move a switch from "Heat" to "Cool."

If the programming limitations suit your weekly schedule, then you will probably be happy with this thermostat. We have had ours for over a year and have had no problems with it. Installation for our all-electric system was fairly easy. Based on our power bill, the thermostat has saved us money.

I have had the Hunter 44110 for a number of years, and it basically does the job. But, once or twice a month it completely loses the day, time and program, and has to be completely re-programmed. When this happens, I check or replace the batteries. But it still loses memory even with known good batteries.

We have 2 furnaces in our house & have an older Hunter model on one furnace & I was searching for a new Hunter for the second furnace. We installed this one at Thanksgiving time & we couldn't be happier. It was a breeze to install & we haven't had any problems with it at all. I think it's a great product & a super price.

This is a decent thermostat. It is easy to install and fairly easy to program, but if you live in a dry climate like Albuquerque, you should think twice about getting this thermostat. It has very poor electro-static discharge (ESD) protection. I have "killed" three of them just by walking up and touching the buttons. I have two installed in my house and I like the horizontal form factor. At first it seemed easier to just buy another one to replace a dead one without having to instal a new bracket, etc. Two days ago, I killed another one and am tired of it. I will be looking for a different thermostat.

I laugh when I read reviews stating that a particular hygrometer is "accurate" or "not accurate." I know these reviewers can not really tell one way or the other. Even laboratory calibrators have problems with determining accuracy. But here I'm going to call the Caliber III reasonably "accurate" and explain why. I do critical environmental surveys as part of my professional work and use a variety of expensive analog and digital instruments, thermometer wet/dry bulb psychrometers, multi-hair recording hygrothermographs, some instruments with NIST certification (but not mirror instruments). I've bought several "cheap" analog and digital hygrometers costing under $150.00 (including the Caliber III) to play with and check for suitable monitoring use by my daughters who humidify and dehumidify their living and storage spaces for violins and violas. I give this little instrument 5 stars for being reasonably "accurate" for its low price and small size certainly accurate enough for musical instrument storage, cigar humidors, and the most simple basic room environmental monitoring. However, don't expect that "accurate" means what the instrument displays is what the environment really is. And do not expect these inexpensive instruments to all read the same when placed side-by-side. And do not trust bag/salts solution verification or for "calibration." Even laboratory closed environmental chambers used for calibration purposes are difficult to manage. All the inexpensive instruments I purchased and all my costly professional instruments costing into the thousands do not give exactly the same readings when placed together in my laboratory controlled climate chamber. Do not expect a lot of precision in humidity measurement for a number of factors too complicated to go into here but related to airborne particles and various gaseous molecules in the air. RH is notoriously difficult to pinpoint with accuracy and a lot of work has gone into trying for critical industrial operations. For most instruments costing under around $150.00 that are displaying, let's say, 50% RH, just believe the actual RH is anywhere in the range 46-54% at best. Accept that limitation. Its hard to do, though, when you see that single digital number displayed. But you need to think in ranges only. And just like the mechanical/analog instruments, even the better ones with multiple strands of human hair, the potential range of digital instrument reading variations from actual RH will widen as your environment comes to either extreme from 50% RH, though not as much with digital as with mechanical/analog. This is important for the cigar keepers. If your better low cost digital unit is reading 65% RH, it really can be within the range of 50-75% RH but there is the "probability" (and that's all you can count on) that it is around 55-65% RH, and not likely 70% RH due to the upper end resistance to accurate measurements of all instruments. Forget using mechanical/analog "dial" instruments for humidors. The only ones reasonably accurate would not fit in most humidors. Using these at the extreme of 65% RH, if that is your target, is asking too much of them as the further from 50% RH the environment, the more resistant these are to reading the actual. However, for larger humidor cases, I have found the Oakton 357 to be good enough (I have three)and can give you some confidence that if its displaying 65% RH, its probably 60-70 RH. For instruments up to $1,000, a 50% RH reading probably represents actual RH of 48-52% RH. Do not expect more. One other thing you must know about digital hygrometers, and this is critical to recognize, they are fast(the more you pay for the sensor within it, the faster its response) and they quickly read their local environments which includes your body heat, skin moisture, breath moisture, and varying temperature and humidity in local air currents you may not even feel. You are a walking warm cloud. Certainly don't hold one and expect it to match another instrument sitting next to it on a shelf! The heat of your hand warms the plastic case raising the temperature reading and thus also drastically affecting RH. Don't even stand within three feet of a sensitive and fast digital instrument and expect it to match the display of one four feet from you. Also, this digital instrument and others like it will detect and display numbers representing something close to the real differences in the environment that can exist just inches apart. That's why two of the same instruments next to each other may not match its not bad quality but high sensitivity. This speed and accuracy of even inexpensive hygrometers is probably the sole cause of people complaining about "inaccuracy" of digital hygrometers and the frustration they experience. The differences they observe in the readings can be really due to accurate sensitivities. Though digital relative humidity monitors tend to be fast, and the more you pay the faster they are, for many purposes the less fast the better because their relative slowness tends to eliminate the small local differences in environments that make people think their instruments are going "haywire." For more information related to how difficult it is to really get accurate RH readings and difficulty in calibration, you must read "The Trouble with Humidity" under the tab "Publications" on the Veriteq.com website. If you want just "a little more accuracy", you can get "a little more accuracy" by paying a few extra hundred dollars, like over $500 for a Vaisala HM34. For the price, and considering how nearly impossible it is to get a true measurement of RH, maybe its good enough for you just to know, for example, "well, the RH is likely to be somewhere between 45 and 55 according to this instrument because its displaying 50."

I bought this hygrometer after a lot of research. I use it to monitor the humidity level in my acoustic guitar cases. The hygrometer is compact (fits nicely in guitar cases), is easy to read, and has the nice feature of a record of highs and lows. It is very responsive, in fact I bought two (two guitars!) and tested them side by side, and they basically changed simultaneously. If you pick it up, within seconds the recorded humidity level changes just from the moisture of your hand! It has the industry reputation for being the most accurate hygrometer, and my experience bears that reputation out. I highly recommend this hygrometer for acoustic guitar owners, though for whatever reason it is typically just listed for cigar humidors guitar makers, dealers, and players should all take notice.

I used the Boveda One-Step Calibration to see how accurate this hygrometer is and the Caliber III was dead on. What you see is the actual humidity rating. I have used other hygrometers before, but this is the most accurate one I have come across.

Honest reviews on Caliber III Thermometer Hygrometer

I must be the unlucky one. I was convinced that this hygrometer would be accurate as all the reviews say. Unfortunately I must have got the few that passed QA. I purchased the One Step EZ Hygrometer Calibrating Kit from a local cigar store and after following the directions to the T, my hygrometer was reading +4%. I thought it had to do w/ how the room temperature was affecting the reading. So I conducting two other tests where the room temp was at 80 degrees and one at 65 degrees. Still it read 79% humidity for both tests when the Calibration kit says it should be reading 75%.

Long story short which every hygrometer you purchase I would recommend purchasing a calibration kit and just put a sticky note on your hygrometer w/ the +/of how much it's off to remind you of the true reading.

hth,

ant

Simple but does the job. I got one of the calibration kits where you put the hygrometer in a bag which creates a certain humidity that you can compare to the reading on the hygrometer. The hygrometer seemed to be right on. I like that it saves high and low temperature and humidity.

For years I've used a kerosene heater to heat my garage, and found it acceptable for occasional use. On my last trip to the gas station, Kerosene was over $5 per gallon. Now, each time I wanted to do a project in the garage during the winter, it cost me $3 to $4 just to take off the cold! Being the cheapskate that I am, I shopped the online used stuff site we all love, and purchased a used blue flame heater for $80, that looked like new. The owner told me it worked great. So I parted with the cash and hooked everything up to my new gas line in the garage. After an hour, I went out to see how things were going. Obviously, there was a problem, because the garage stunk to high heaven. I had just wasted $80.

After reeling from my loss of four crisp Twenty Dollar Bills, I suddenly became a very smart shopper. While I was not able to do comparisons on anything but paper, I decided on the ProCom based on what "seemed" to be the popularity of the system. Also, I went with the infra-red design, based on the notion that newer usually means improved. Minutes ago, I fired up my new heater, and I could not be happier. After a few minutes of running, there are no fumes at all. I even went outside for a breath of fresh air, and to tune up my nostrils for anything I may not have detected earlier. No problem! This thing burns clean!

I live in the Detroit area, and could not locate a retail store where I could pourchase this unit. On-line seemed to be my only option. Then, as I was driving to Central Michigan University to pick up my daughter, it occurred to me that the buyer demographic in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan (up north, as we say here) may actually stock these things. They do, and the price at Manard's was competitive with the best I found on-line. I'm sold. You can't go wrong with a ProCom.

Have been using an electric metabolic heater for years in the garage, decided it was time to get more comfortable. Installed this heater in my garage, aka "Man Cave" and couldn't be happier. I would say this is the best item I have purchased in the past few years. Installation was simple, hookup to natural gas a plus and it heats up a 3 car garage in a little over an hour from about 45 to 70 degrees, exactly what I was looking for. Gas is so much cheaper than electricity it just makes $ence. Would definitely recommend and buy again.

I had this thermostat for about a month on a new furnace before replacing it with a TH7500D so I could have 7 day program-ability. It kept very even temps and is fairly easy to operate.

Be forewarned however that the ease or difficulty of the installation has almost nothing to do with the thermostat itself. It is determined by the equipment you have installed and the manner in which they were installed. Have a simple furnace wired using the standard scheme and it will be 15min easy. Have a heat pump with a two-stage fossil fuel backup, two stage AC that was installed by a non-conformist plumber and it may take a while to sort out. Use the labels include to label the wires as they are removed from the old. If your equipment or wire combo isn't in the install instructions call tech support.

You must use the manual to program it the first time because the screen just shows you a code that means nothing without the manual.

This model is normally not available to homeowners....only contractors...It is FAR superior to the same Focus Pro 6000 available to homeowners at your local hardware store. I highly recommend this model even though they say homeowners should only allow a licensed contractor install this unit. It has MANY awesome features that do need to be set properly, but I disagree with other reviewers who said the instructions are hard to follow and engineers and contractors could not understand the directions. I am not in the heating and air biz...I am not exactly Mr. Know it all...if I could figure this out so easily, anybody should be able to...The set-up and wiring was very easy.....It took me about 3 5 minutes to remove my old thermostat and wire this one up....very easy..(I have a 2/1 stage unit with emergency and aux heat, cool and etc..)....I was really sorta shocked it was so easy to wire up and the instructions were very clear, although not really needed..this is like the thermostat for dummies.....awesome features, but very, very easy for anybody to install, set up, program and etc.....After wiring the unit I went in to set-up....It was a breeze...lots of features...very easy to figure out how to set up all features, activate them, deactivate them and etc.....Only had it for 3 days now but so far I absolutely love it and would highly recommend this model. Do not be swayed by the talk of it being too hard to figure out and buy the homeowner model instead. There is no comparrison between the two...They are similarily priced, but this model has so many more features and is very easy to use.....And the features on this not available on the homeowner model will seriously save you some money and works very well to "work with your unit to ensure optimal efficiency as well as 'protecting' your system". I got mine for $50 which was actually cheaper then the Focus Pro 6000 'homeowner model' sold at Home Depot. And again, there is no comparrison...This model is so much better and is very easy for anybody to figure out...If I could do it so easily, I find it hard to believe that engineers and so called experts could not figure this out.....I mean it is so easy I just cant believe the reviews that say experts could not figure it out....Buy this model....you will not regret it and if you got past the 3rd grade, you wont have any problems installing this unit and setting it up....If I could install it in about 3 5 minutes, anybody can....Setting it up took about 10 15 minutes (probably less, but I was double checking every setting) as it does have about 20 or 30 'features' that need to be set...but each setting was a breeze and easy to understand....Once done, you just need to play with your scheduling to find the right temps and right schedule for your lifestyle...Lastly, since installing this I am now wondering if my old thermostat (was not that old...was a very nice programmable Bryant that I had no complaints with) was not "In Sync" with my heating/cooling system or maybe it was, but this models features make everything work better...My system now heats faster and cools faster in far less time and the unit runs about half as much as before I installed this unit...I am thoroughly impressed after only 3 days..well today is actually day 4......Great unit!!!

This product performed as expected. It was easy to install. It had a handy clip-on so required no fancy tools to attach it.

With a little know-how on repairing electrical things, anyone could install it safely. To install it requires access to the freezing

coil area of the refrigerator so one needs to remove some paneling or covers to access the coils. Shut down the frig and unplug

it before starting the job.

Review of Friedrich Kuhl SS10M10 Window and Thru-Wall 9500 BTU Commercial

Friedrich Kuhl SS10M10 Window and Thru-Wall 9500 BTU Commercial Grade Air Conditioner

There are two similar units that Friedrich introduced this year-see the review for the SS12M10 done by "obmot" and the review for the SS08M10 by "dub". Both of these reviews are detailed and reflect my personal experiences with the SS10M10. Now here is what I have to say: I bought two of these. One came with the compressor ripped off the mounts and had to be returned. The packing experts at Friedrich decided to skimp on the protection for shipping. Whoever was responsible for this packing problem may be unemployed. Judging by the few reviews that I have read the problem is persistent and will probably be corrected so Friedrich doesn't have to deal with so many returns. Because the A/Cs are very heavy and packed in a huge box returning the unit was not fun. I had to take the old unit in a taxi and it barely fit (even though I used a smaller box). One of the batteries that operates the controls died after two weeks; Friedrich was very nice and sent me a replacement for free and a back up for the non-dead unit. The unit is large and heavy for 10,000 BTUs but this can be considered a "good thing" in that the air throw is superior to smaller units and I intend to leave these monsters in my NYC apartment "forever". Also, the unit is very nice looking. The fan cycles on and off too much on auto. A steady noise is less distracting to me then an intermittent one. I switched to "continuous" mode and probably pay a few extra dollars in electricity. Both units cool very well and the EER is excellent. Both units are noisier than one would expect. You may have to shove additional foam to seal noise that leaks from the cracks in between the unit and chassis. While this is really no big deal, most people may not pay attention to this need and would expect such an expensive unit to have the noise better controlled by design and not by consumer intervention. One unit had a rattle problem with the plastic air vents. I solved it by damping the vent with a two small rubber pads that I had to stick in between the vents. The controls are good and extensive programming is possible-more than a normal person would ever need. The ability to shut out the display light is nice. The ability to dim the display to 20% is a good feature but not properly implemented because when the unit changes its cooling mode (automatically) the display brightens to full--try sleeping with the flickering between dim and full in a dark room-not very user friendly. I hope Friedrich learns from these new consumer reviews and improves the units as they are very handsome and have, for the most part, good build quality.

If there were negative stars i would have chosen them. I Bought this back in 2007 as an "easy way" to not have to run wires from my new addition. It is garbage. When the new week starts, the the unit will send a high temp signal to the receiver and the house will be at 85° come Monday morning. Also any and I mean any other 433 mhz signals in the area will cause the unit to turn on and off. Save your money--either run wires or buy a more advanced brand name other than this no name with a sticker on it.

Solved a whole ton of wiring issues in my house with my central air unit. I highly recommend it over tearing holes in your house!

Thermostat can be dangerous! We had this happen several times where we set the heat temperature, say to 72, and the thermostat did not turn off when it reached that temperature. In one instance we woke up and realized the temperature reached 89! Dangerous when you have a baby in the room. The room was super hot and the thermostat read 89! What we suspect is that the signal is sometimes not received by the receiving unit which is attached to the furnace. There is no failsafe, the two only communicate with a single on/off signal. To finally turn it off, I had to trick the remote unit to think it is turning on the furnace by turning the heat up beyond 89. Then once it sent the signal, I turned the temperature down so it sent an off signal.

Long story short, don't by this junky thermostat.
