Great heater unless you live above 4500 feet. Not recommended above 4500 feet as the pilot will not stay on. This is the same with all these type of heaters

I have had this LP heater in operation for a few weeks. It has definitely served the purpose that I expected. I have a similar heater made by a different company. When comparing the two, I have to say that this heater has some odor do it whereas the other does not. It puts out the heat properly and other than the odor, I am completely satisfied.

My husband and I put this unit in our new living room. It is not the most attractive unit but it certainly keeps our 840 square foot living room very comfortable. We had been advised to not purchase the stand to go with this so my husband built a stand that works very well. We like that there is no electricity required to run this as there are times when our power is out for extended periods of time and we don't have to worry about getting too cold. Great product for the price!

Honest reviews on Kozy World KWP324 25,000-BTU Vent-Free LP-Gas Infrared Wall Heater

This heater is great, its simple to install being well worth the money, our home was costing 300-400 a month using an 80% efficient furnace and now we are doing the job for 150.00 a month in gas. We purchased the fan kit for it and I love how that fan cools the whole thing down after the burner shuts off. The burner is automatic and the fan kit is too, some you adjust the settings for hi or low burners but this unit actually turns the gas on/off.

Our lives have changed as a result of having this heater. At this very moment, I can feel it on my back. It is a no brainer if you need an extra heat source. Wonderful! It heats (very comfortably) about 1000 square feet. I know it can do more but that is how much we have it keeping warm.

EdgeStar 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner & Heater
Customer Ratings: 3 stars
Buy Now
This is a general overview of the Edgestar 14000 BTU dual hose air conditioner.

Buying experience: Average

Product was slow to be delivered, approximately two weeks from the time I placed the order until I actually received the item. Buyer's need to keep in mind that this product is not sold by Amazon. It is some external site that sells via amazon. Most buyers will not face any complications but it is important to know that dealing with some little dotcom is very different than dealing with Amazon in terms of service, quality of product, and returns.

Design: Below average

Product itself is extremely bulky in girth and tall in profile. The "portable" tag is rather misleading. Yes, anything is portable but due to the weight and size of this unit, it is not very portable at all. While it looks very slim in the pictures, it has a large rear section where the dual hose is located. The control panel on the unit is also not very touch sensitive and the power button became non-responsive after a few uses.

Product use: Poor to Unacceptable

It is also very unlikely that this product is a 14000 BTU air conditioner. It cannot, I repeat, cannot cool a space larger than 500 sq feet. It has been used in a wide range of temperatures (72-95F) and completely fails to lower the room temperature by more than 5F. I would estimate that it can cool a space that that is at most 200 square feet. Also note that the unit is very prone to condensation and leaks. Puddles form around the unit on high humidity days. Be careful when using on hardwood floors. It is a disaster waiting to happen. Window kit also had a nice big crack around the hose connection area.

Manufacturer/Tech support: Below Average

As mentioned previously, when dealing with an external seller, it can range from annoyance to frustration. First tried the seller for help and as expected was referred to the manufacturer as "this unit should be covered by the warranty". Manufacturer was must have all of one employee working for them. Impossible to get a live person and even then it was the standard read from a script response.

In summary, this is a dismal product with even worse support. It would be best to avoid this brand and seller. I would not recommend this air conditioner even on a sweltering summer afternoon.

I bought this unit as a birthday present for my husband's new workshop. The square footage of his shop is well under what the unit is rated for, but it was worthless in real heat...we live in South Texas. We called Compact Appliance, who sold it to us with a 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee and they told us to call the manufacturer. They have ignored all subsequent requests for assistance. Manufacturer said its not designed to work where the ambient temperature is over 90 degrees. REALLY?? Why would you spend that kind of money to air condition an already cool place? I will never buy from Compact Appliance again and I will tell this story to anyone who will listen.

I bought one portable air conditioner and heater from Sonic value company for father's day gift.and i got damage item. and i confirm and recorded everything before i ordered this item that it is gonna be a new item and not any kind of damage. and the after i got this kind of item. So, i called them and explained everything.and every time they were giving excuses and not giving good customer service.and they were telling me to send pictures about damage, about label, more clear pictures, box pictures.and i did every time. then after they did n't do anything. So, i asked to my money back and one day the company vice president send me E-mail and say you are wasting my and my staff time and bla bla bla...

So i sent below reply.

First of all I have not received the email you are talking about. You

you guys were calling me when you wanted our business. And this is not

the way to respond to the customers. I am very offended by your

Honest reviews on EdgeStar 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner & Heater

Don't buy this money pit!!! Big waste of $730 (original purchase plus repair costs!!!)

On the day after the one-year warranty ended, it stopped running. The manufacturer was rude & very difficult to work with and as a "favor" sent the replacement part at no charge. The part that failed had been redesigned because a tendency to fracture under heat stress. I opened up the back and realized that the job was way beyond my own diy skills. I shelled my own $130 for the repairman, who was very hard to find. He kindly informed me the secret is most AC techs are not qualified to work on mini-duct ac's, which is technically what this unit is.

One year later, the electronics have failed, and having moved to New England, there is NO-ONE who does mini-duct AC work. Still need an AC, though, to keep the creepy basement dried out and the mold at bay...

I read all the reviews and this seemed like the perfect heater/ac for my little office. Well it didn't even come close to cooling my office this summer and now that it is winter I was optimistic that it would at least heat my space...no such luck. In hindsight I should have bought a couple of little heaters and a good fan. I would have been $400 ahead and cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter....sigh.

I've had two of these units in two years, and suffered through the same issue with both. After just a few months in the first unit, and a few weeks with the second unit both would not fire the furnace. They would indicate that the furnace was running and the manual blower controls would operate the blower, but they would not ignite the furnace. I tested the controls by switching back to an older manual unit and the furnace operated perfectly. Did a quick search and found a number of threads indicating similar problems. Seems that the unit can't supply the correct amperage to open the ignition circuit in a number of different units. Called Honeywell and found that not only to they have a completely useless Indian customer service group, they're hours are exactly the hours that I'm working or commuting and I'm a normal 9 to 5. So buy one if you feel lucky, but keep in mind that most people are going to write a positive review before it craps out on them. It's does a great job with cooling, but if you have a gas central heating and cooling system and you actually want heat in the winter SKIP THIS UNIT!

DON'T BUY ONE!

The instructions don't tell whether this will work on a 2 wire gas furnace system, but it does. Just hooked the existing red wire to the Rc slot (which comes with a little jumper cable over to the Rh slot which I left in place). Hooked the white wire to the W slot and it works great. Removed an old 2 wire mercury switch. The system is heat only. It uses two AA batteries.

My RTH2310 started to malfunction after a year. The problem is that the relay that closes the circuit to turn the furnace on started to intermittently fail to energize, even though the flame icon appeared (indicating the thermostat is trying to turn on the heating system). The Honeywell "help line" was useless. They kept telling me to check the furnace and refused to acknowledge that I was able to troubleshoot the problem to the relay. Then, further feedback from them stated that 25-30 VAC is needed on the OUTPUT contacts of the relay to enable it to energize. Incredible!!! I will NEVER purchase another Honeywell product.

Honest reviews on Honeywell RTH2310B 5-2 Day Programmable Thermostat

I bought this thermostat without checking the reviews. It worked for one month, then on a cold Saturday morning, it locked up and would not adjust heat. After a half hour of trying to fix this thermostat I promptly smashed it with a hammer. I then called the 800 number on the thermostat to personally thank the company for the hour round trip I made to purchase this item and then another hour round trip I am getting to go on to replace it. I am writing this review in hopes that it will save another poor guy a wasted Saturday afternoon replacing this and missing out on spending the time with his family/friends or just relaxing and enjoying his day off.

We were worried about purchasing this product after reading the previous review about the lukewarm results. However, we had read so many other reviews of similar machines that we thought it could easily have been user error. When we bought the machine, we actually read the manual very carefully before doing anything. (Not our typical style :) We followed the instructions. We did more than the minimum 5 recommended times of running the machine using water only; it needed about 10 times of this to get really hot -but only on the first time out of the box. The espresso itself can be pretty good, but probably only for a casual espresso drinker. Even for casual sippers such as ourselves, it is easy to pull a shot that is completely undrinkable. (Actually, my husband is less discerning, so we feed him the "bad" shots.) I know what a beautiful espresso tastes like since I work next to a famous Illy shop in DC, and this espresso is, sadly, not the same. But, it is still very wonderful and enjoyable. Very drinkable, if you take care. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.

I would like to give another tip, which is that the first 10 or so times that you use the machine, the filter attachment (the thing with the handle) is extremely hard to get to its fully attached position. Fully attached is perpendicular to the machine; this is not indicated anywhere in the manual. So if your machine is LOUD, you may not have this fully attached. It gets easier after a few uses. The machine is not very loud when you use it properly.

Cheers!

I fell in love with this machine--both its looks and its espresso quality--after being introduced to it by a DeLonghi employee in a department store. He pulled a great shot for me in the store: dark, rich taste, very hot, with a lot of crema, and for the past week I've had similarly great results at home. I was leery buying this machine after reading the Amazon reviews, but I took a risk and I couldn't be happier.

Lukewarm shots seem to be a common complaint for machines like this. They happen for a variety of reasons, but this 15-bar pump definitely produces all the heat you need. Problems occur, rather, when the filter (the scoop-like handle) and your espresso cups aren't hot enough. First, run the machine with just water at least once before you make a shot, every time. I also run the filter and my cup(s) under hot water just before using, and as a result my coffee both tastes rich and is very hot. You also, without a doubt, need coffee that's been ground with an excellent conical burr grinder to get a fine and consistent grind, which is crucial for the way machines like this work. Most grinders that do a great espresso grind unfortunately cost as much as this machine, but as a substitute you can certainly get it ground professionally at your local coffee shop, and use that coffee for a few days. Not as fresh, but the grind is more crucial. Keep in mind these two things (good grind + warm cups & filter) and you will produce fantastic shots with this machine. And its style definitely classes up your kitchen!

I have to say that I love that I got this espresso machine. It has been a lot of fun making tasty espresso at home. This is my first espresso machine and before this I had never pulled a shot of espresso before. After only half an hour of explanation I learned how to easily pull a very tasty shot from this machine. There is a lot of good stuff about this machine, but also a few things I wish were improved upon.

The best thing about this machine is that it is easy to pull a delicious shot of espresso with this machine, if you do it right you won't fail. I like that the machine looks really good on my countertop. It has a larger water reservoir and a nice cup warming tray, although the warming tray won't heat up your cups but will keep them warm if you have already heated them up with hot water. Its really great that I can use either a prepacked coffee packet or tamp my own grounds for the espresso. The two spouts pour very evenly and it produces a lot of great creama.

There are a few things I wish were improved upon. One of which is the button interface, its nonintuitive if you are using it for the first time. I will go into detail later on how to properly use this machine. Another big annoyance is that frother wand only swivels side to side and doesn't rotate front to back like most machines have. The whole thing is made of plastic which gives it a slightly cheaper feel and makes it less sturdy when you are knocking the thing around. Another big annoyance is that the size of tamper you need is a really uncommon size, 52cm, and the tamper provided that is attached to the machine is awkward to use and you never really get a good tamp with it.

Here is how I have learned to make a cappuccino with this machine. If you have any other tips or recommendations, please comment below as I am still learning too.

1) Fill the water reservoir at least a quarter of the way full with water.

2) Turn on the machine by pressing the top button. The top red light should turn on. Press the bottom button to heat the water for steaming (disregard if you are not going to steam any milk). The bottom red light should turn on.

3) Grind your beans using a burr grinder on the espresso setting

4) Put a filter basket into the handle filter holder and fill the filter with one or two scoops of ground coffee using the provided scoop. (1 scoop if using the one cup filter, 2 scoops if using the two cup filter)

5) Using the handle of the scoop, level off the coffee grounds with the top of the filter. You can push the excess grounds off the filter

6) Tamp down your grounds with ~20 lbs of force. You will get a feel for how hard you need to tamp it after you see a few results

7) Turn the filter holder over and lightly shake out any loose coffee grounds. Make sure to hold the filter lock up so that the filter doesn't fall out

8) Put your filter holder back in your machine

9) Fill a cup or frothing pitcher with however much milk you want. I pour in about half a cup of milk.

10) Once the middle green light turns on, you are good to go. Open the steam, using the knob on the top of the machine, for just a few seconds to let any water out. It is good to have a cup under the nozzle to collect the water.

11) Now put your steam nozzle into your milk and open the steam. If you put the nozzle at the bottom of you milk you will make less foam, like a latte and if you keep your nozzle near the top of the milk you will make more foam, like a cappuccino. Steam your milk until you have the amount of foam that you like and the milk is just slightly too hot to the touch (140-160 F)

12) Close the steam and take the nozzle out of the milk. Now lightly tap the bottom your pitcher and swirl the milk to make the foam just right

13) Turn the steam function off by pressing the bottom button. The bottom red light should turn off.

14) IMPORTANT. Now you want to surf the temperature back down to the proper coffee pouring temperature. To do this you want to have an empty cup ready under the steam nozzle. I use the cup that I will drink my coffee out of to heat it up, afterwards I place it on the heating trip. Open the steam knob all the way and after this press the middle button (the coffee button). You should get all the steam out of the wand at first and then the hot water will start pouring out. Do this until the middle green light turns off. Now unpress the middle button and then close the steam knob. This will help prevent your machine from burning out its heating elements.

15) Once the middle green light turns on, place your shots under the filter and press the middle button. Espresso should start pouring out in a few seconds.

16) Once you have the right amount of espresso unpress the middle button.

17) Pour your espresso into your warm cup and then pour in your steamed milk slowly adding in your foam at the end.

18) Enjoy you delicious espresso.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi ECO310BK 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Machine, Piano Black

I had the same leaking problem with the DeLonghi 270 that so many others seemed to have. I had it fixed, but decided to give up when the frothing nozzle melted onto the unit and could not be removed for cleaning (right after the one year warranty expired). The DeLonghi ECO 310 seems to be a much better design. It has a larger water tank, easy to remove frothing cover and nozzle, makes a large cup of espresso fairly quickly, and doesn't look chintzy. Hopefully, it's built for the long term. The only drawback I found was that there is only 3.5 inches between the cup tray and the filter holder, so most large mugs don't fit. That seems to be common with these machines, however. Also, I would like to mention that the measurements in the product description are slightly off. It is 10 3/4 inches deep x 9 3/4 inches wide x 12 3/4 inches high (to the top of the steam knob).

Purchased to fit the look and size of my small European kitchen, I use it with the little Deca Premium pads easily available here in Belgium for a reasonable price. Haven't yet tried tamping my own cup with ready-made, or grinding & using my own beans, but when I do, it'll be Illy or Lavazza, or Douwe Eggberts coffee, that I try. The coffee itself, and fineness of the grind, is 9/10ths of the equation when it comes to filter coffee or espresso, in my opinion.

Haven't had a bad cup yet using the Deca pads, and the temp has been just fine, every time, so no reason to go crazy trying everything under the sun. Around the corner, there are 8 caffes I can use for that, anyway! What I wanted was a way to get my caffiene fix, quick, here at home, without needing a degree in avionics or engineering to learn the ins and outs of the machine.

It was simple to use using the "quick card" pictures included to set up and get going, and in a few minutes--voila! Hot, delicious espresso.

The machine is brand new to me, so maybe over time I'll come to find some things I don't like about it. For now, it's exactly what we wanted at a price we didn't mind paying.

Excellent Heater. I installed one in bathroom about 8 years ago. Heater still works great. Thermostat is fairly consistant. Must be cleaned regularly. That is the secret to keeping it working satisfactorily.

Started out by replacing a toilet and ended up with a new floor and a new heater. And other things. The Nautilus was a good style and fit for what I was dealing with. It is quiet and provides more than enough heat for any bathroom. The thermostat works properly and the style is unobstrusive.

It is easy to access the wiring and to take out the innards so that you have access to mount the box in different ways (not all installations are new construction as you may know!). This also makes it easy to service it and I was happy that it came with a parts diagram, always a good sign.

I found it to be a good and thoughtful design for a decent price. It is recommended.

If you are looking for a heater fan unit that replaces your old Broan heater, this is it.

This heater fan is an exact match to its decades old product.

It fit the existing opening within a sixteenth of an inch.

However if you are looking for an improved product, this is not it.

It has the same loud fan noise as the old one.

It will require the same periodic cleaning to keep it running.

It will need to be removed annually to be cleaned and oiled.

For the price it is a good product and will last ten to fifteen years, but if want a quiet heater, pay moe and buy a unit with a better fan.

Lovely design. Great heat! Easy to move from place to place. The "new" smell disappears quickly in a few hours via following the directions. (I also used a tiny bit of lavender oil on the top fins during those hours to mask the initial unpleasant smell. And I placed it near a window that was ajar.) We haven't used the programming so I can't comment on that (see below for update!). (There was one similar model that lacked the programming feature, but it was not sold by Amazon and required a substantial shipping fee. My advice: Always check the origin and any shipping cost! When given a choice, I prefer Amazon. Second choice is to go through Amazon, if it's not something Amazon carries.)

Back to the heater:

This heats quickly. And it's cute! Easy to store, as this model is particularly slim. I strongly recommend reading the directions so you avoid overtaxing your electric outlets or circuits. Beyond that, this thing will be your "friend" on cold mornings as it heats up so quickly. It's like a little fireplace except it's safe.

My vote of confidence in the heater and in Amazon service (it arrived 2 days after shipping!) is so strong we are ordering a second one. This will enable us to keep the house temperature lower and just warm the rooms we're actually occupying at any one time.

My initial order included another DiLonghi heater (HHP1500, Mica Panel Radiator), which is very attractive looks almost like a small TV except with wire mesh instead of a screen. The oil-filled radiator keeps its heat longer and puts out more heat. But the Mica Panel radiator is preferable if space is limited and you're looking for something to keep your feet warm while reading or watching TV; it puts out consistent, gentle heat mostly from the front, a bit from the top whereas the oil-filled radiator puts out a lot of heat from the top. (Also, the mica panel one is so light, you can easily carry it from one room to another.) We're happy with both, but the oil-filled radiator is the one we decided to duplicate as, for us, it's more versatile, and can really "add" heat where you need it thus allowing us to have the thermostat lower. (Both heaters do not use blowers, which, if you have allergies, is a big plus! That's another reason to supplement forced air central heating with these space heaters.)

We chose a slim model. So I expect the larger, heavier models would be great heat "work horses" if you're looking for something with an even greater heat output.

Update (10/12/09):

Programming function of this heater:

By accident I have now learned about the programming. It's an ingenious design, in my view. It's not via a computer, but there's dial where you set the current time (be sure to move that dial only clockwise!) and then there is a circle of tiny little red levers (like tiny hairs, except they move). And these little levers are really on/off controls. If the lever is moved to the center of the circle, then it's "on" so if you don't need to "program" it, you simply move all the little levers toward the center and you have nice little circle of red. However, for any spans of time where you want the heater to turn itself off, you move the lever to the outer part of the circle.

Does your heater APPEAR to be "broken" because it won't turn on? Check that little red circle of levers.... in case for some reason they've been moved and the unit has turned itself off. You can easily put them back the way you want them.

Again, it's a brilliant little programming design! Very easy to understand. And it really is not subject to the kind of problems of things that you program digitally. As I said above, it's like a circle of "on/off" switches that you can control individually.

We're glad we've got the second one on the way!

This is a great heater. I like that it creates its own airflow without a fan the hot air just comes off the top as if there were a fan! I also love the timer function you can set the heater to be on or off in 15 minute segments all day long. I use this feature to have it warm up my bedroom so it's warm when I arrive home from work, just before bedtime, and also to warm up the room before I wake up, without having the heater run all night (it's a powerful little thing!). The air doesn't get dried out, but it circulates and becomes toasty warm. There is also three output settings (1,2, and 3), so you can really crank it up if you need some heat quickly, but keep it low for everyday use. I'm extremely pleased with this heater.

Best Deals on DeLonghi TRV0715T Vento Hi-Speed Convection Oil-Filled Radiator

If you've got high ceilings or an area larger than 14x14 and expect this unit to heat, you're going to be disappointed. Also, as the previous review states, the heat rises from the top of the unit, which is about 2 1/2 feet off the ground. If you're prone to "cold feet" this unit is NOT for you.

There is no fan on this unit, so it's perfect for an office, baby's room or bedroom that always seems to be a bit chilly. If you have a large bathroom, this would be great to pre-set the attached 24 hour timer to come on an hour or so before you get up.

So if you want to heat a 12x12 or 12x14 room or smaller this unit will be fine. Just dont expect your legs and feet to be warm.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi TRV0715T Vento Hi-Speed Convection Oil-Filled Radiator

Before we bought this heater, we have been using a DeLonghi TRD0715T for more than two years. The TRD0715T has been working well but it has some problems too. For example, it sometimes gives noise if its position is not "right". It also smells if it is on the highest setting. Recently it started to have ticking noise from the timer. But overall, we have been very happy with its performance. So we bought the TRV0715T for our daughter's room. The TRV0715T is smaller in size, and much quieter. It doesn't have noticeable smell even on the highest setting. However, we feel it is not generating enough heat like TRD0715T, although they all are 1500 watts. We use the middle setting all the time because the current will be too high for our apartment if we use the highest setting. If you have a big room to heat up, I wouldn't recommend it to you.

Best space heater! Especially when you have babies and young children. I keep one in my master suit which is about 20x16. Whole upstairs is about 61 degrees when the suit is set at 70 during winter time. I feel better that I am not heating up the whole upstairs when I only need the heat in my suit. I also keep 2 of these in my finished basement which is about 40X15. Without the heater, basement is at around 58, with it 73 when set at medium setting. My baby can touch it and get startled, but never caused any scream or crying. I feel very safe and good about this heater. VERY EASY TO FIGURE OUT THE CONTROL!....well if you are used to setting outlet timers.

This is a great thermostat when used in conjunction with remote access devices available through . It allows me to raise/lower temprature in the house from anywhere in the world, as long as I have internet access. Programming the system is a ittle complicated but worth the effort for someone who needs remote access.

Nobody has ever bought this thermostat after checking reviews on Amazon. This is the sort of thing you mistakenly purchase when you trust the installer who recommends it to you. On the plus side, most features work. However, programming is clumsy, and you'll probably get stuck at some point as you try to make your way through the mediocre manual.

So now what? You call customer support. Except there is no customer support number. Go ahead, try and find one. If you work at it, you'll find that Totaline is owned by Carrier, which sounds like a reputable company. So call them. They won't talk to you about this thermostat. They say all support is provided by the installer. I suppose you could pay the installer for a service visit, but that would cost more than a good thermostat with proper customer support.

I just had all new HVAC installed in the house, this is the thermostat that they sold me. I hate it. You should be able to set a thermostat for the temperature that you want the house (or room) to be right? You cannot perform that action with the Venstar t1900. If you want to use the Programme option, you can set a minimum temp (when you want the heater to come on) and a maximum temp (when you want the A/C to come on). What you end up getting then is an arithmetic average for room temperature. I thought that I would be sneaky and set the temps for 68°F and 72°F. That way the room would be 70°F. Right? NO. At 68° the heater came on, but the house heated up too fast and at 72° the A/C came on (it's still winter as I write this). So, I had to defeat the Programme feature, put it on Heat only, heater-on set for 68° and now I get temps from 71°-73°. At night now or when I leave the house I have to manually turn it down if I want to try to conserve energy. I love Honeywell thermostats. So I tried to contact Venstar to see if perhaps I misread the instructions. There is no customer service line (at all), but as a consolation you can send them a nice e-mail. No on-line tech chat. Nothing. So, if you have an office where it may be cold in the morning and then when all the people and machines are working you don't want it to get too hot Venstar may be for you. If you live in a home and want to try and conserve a little energy by utilizing a programme mode, Venstar may not be for you.

This motor is identical to the Lomanco motor I was replacing but is more expensive. Even the part numbers are identical. The only difference is that this motor is more expensive.

I was hoping it would be a better motor since the thermal protector in my Lomanco motor burned out and it uses sleeve bearings.

This motor works as a replacement, but has the same steel sleeve bearings as the original that will require regular lubrication (yearly, at least) to keep them from seizing and burning out the thermal fuse. The problem is, you have to disassemble the fan to had a couple drops of oil to the motor bearings.

Broan Attic Fan (340, 343, 350, 353) Replacement Motor # 97009316

Having removed our 9-year old Broan attic fan for a remodeling project, it was obvious that the fan blade didn't turn as easily as when it was new. However, rather than buy a replacement motor, I simply cleaned the bearings on the old one. Some notes:

Our fan's motor has a 3-prong cord plugged into a dedicated receptacle next to it, which simplified removing the unit. We have 3 attic fans and I always install a short heavy-duty extension cord on the fan and mount a receptacle nearby to simplify maintenance.

Removed the fan blade and unloosened two of the three bolts that held the motor clamp tight.

Removed the two screws that held the thermostat on the fan frame and removed the motor & thermostat together.

Removed the nuts and bolts that hold the 2 halves of the motor housing together.

Separated the motor casing ends the armature then comes out easily, along with the front motor casing.

Since the long shaft was rusted beyond where the fan attaches, I used a bench mounted wire wheel to de-rust it. A rusted shaft won't slide out of the front bearing.

Slid the front motor casing, which contains the front sleeve bearing, off the armature shaft.

Thoroughly cleaned the gunk on the shaft at the bearing locations using a paper towel with paint thinner, along with steel wool. The front shaft on my motor was coated with what looked like tar, which can happen to oil that's repeatedly over-heated. This "tar" retards motor RPM's, making the fan less efficient. Eventually, if it slows the motor enough, a tar build-up could result in a burned out motor. The rear bearing area was much cleaner.

Cleaned the inside of the sleeve bearings.

Oiled the sleeve bearings on their insides and the shaft where it touches the bearings, with synthetic motor oil, since it's slicker and has a higher operating temperature range, than refined oil.

Reassembled the unit mounting the motor so that the shaft was at a right angle to the fan housing. The fan turned much easier by hand than it did before. Electrified the fan for a test run before re-installation, to ensure proper operation.

Summary:

I've disassembled many motors and this is the first one with STEEL versus bronze, sleeve bearings. Broan probably saves two bucks per motor by using the cheaper steel sleeve bearings, and the end result is a motor won't last as long as it would if bronze bearings were used. (I.e., the bearings gum up, at which point, most people would replace the motor.) The steel sleeve bearings are so hard that the motor shaft showed some wear at the front bearing area this is something I haven't seen with bronze bearings, since bronze is not hard enough to wear down a steel shaft.

This "repair" costs nothing and took about 30 minutes. There's no reason it couldn't be repeated as needed.

One star off for Broan using cheaper bearings.

Honest reviews on Attic Fan Replacement Motor

The original motor in the fan lasted for nearly 14 years. My hope is the new motor lasts a similar period of time. Only time will tell.

My old fan was making all sorts of noise and finally just burned out. I ordered this one, installed it and it runs effectively and quietly. I am guessing I will have to replace it in 7 to 10 years but it is what it is.

Review of Travel Water Heater Kettle for Car

This is a handy item for making tea on the road. It fits neatly into the car between the front seats and plugs into the cigarette lighter. It has two cups that are stored in the jug. The only problem is that it takes half an hour to boil 2 cups of water. That is much too long and meant that we never actually used it on our trip.

This is my second Travel Water Heater for car. Both units only lasted for about ten uses then died. On taking a closer look at my second unit after it died, it look as if it was wired for a 240/120 volt circuit and not a 12/24 volt circuit (internal wiring too thin). For the price and the fact it is CE certified I'm not impressed. I expected a better product with CE certification.

This thing takes soooooo long to heat water. I'd say only buy it if you're desperate and have no other way to heat water. And leave lots of time before you need that water to be heated!

I needed a good, quiet window unit to attach to my MASH style army tent. This unit works as advertised and was very quiet. It cranks out cold air and the thermostat maintains constant temps. Since it runs on 220 VAC, the cable was cool and never overheated even though the tent was on 100 degree heat. It feels like it is built very solidly and will last a long time.

This is a straight forward, effective product. I use it to turn on my furnace motor to distribute warm air around the house when my wood pellet stove makes the living room too warm to be cozy. It's simple to install, easy to look at and requires no fancy wiring, just household wire suitable for the load, as per the relevant electrical code.

I use this controller in my indoor table-top greenhouse to run a bathroom exhaust fan to keep the plants cool in the summer.

The temperature control has been very good, and there seems to be sufficient hysteresis built into the controller to avoid short-cycling of the fan. (Hysteresis means that the turn on temp is a couple degrees from the turn-off temp, so the fan doesn't turn on and off every couple seconds).

The controller is all mechanical-no electronics inside. I haven't checked it for accuracy, but a quick look at my thermometer indicates it is at least pretty close to its set temp. It looks reasonably professional in appearance.

The unit is designed to fit into a standard electrical box, but it is a tight fit. I was trying to use a "remodelling" type box-the one with the little ears on it, and ended up having to drill out part of the box to get the thermostat to fit. I also don't like the location of the grounding screwit allows the copper grounding wire to be somewhat visible and touchable from the outside. I realize that this is perfectly safe, but the non-electrical user can find it a little disconcerning.

That is about the only negative I hadotherwise it seems to be just what I wanted.

The operation of this device seems very simple but the instructions aren't intended for someone who doesn't work in the HVAC field. I had problems with the operation of this device. After contacting tech support the device appeared to be defective. Lux Products was eager to send me a replacement and did so without awaiting my return. They even included a free return shipping label. After returning two of these I found out that my (and their tech support person's) interpretation of the operating instructions was faulty. I finally resolved my problem when the tech support person had an engineer contact me. The people at Lux Products Corp were more than patient and VERY willing to exchange my product. I can't say enough good things about the support even though we had a bit of a rough start. I will certainly do business with Lux Products again.
