Once you get it together it looks and works great. The instructions are horrible and we had to cut the metal brackets that hold the fire place to the hearth. They were to big and the hearth would not sit flush around the insert otherwise. Also you need to build the hearth around the fireplace insert. There is absolutely no way to insert it and put the brackets on it after the hearth is built. So before you put the top part of the hearth on, install the fireplace part and then finsh by adding the top piece.

I'm so excited to come home to my Media electric fireplace which brings a cozy, warm and relaxed feeling to my bedroom. The dark brown espresso color adds a nice touch to my bedroom furniture which is also dark brown. After you assemble all the parts together that took almost 45 minutes, you will definitely see your moneys worth. It took almost two weeks for it to be delivered in two parts. The mantel and then the fireplace w/remote control. I panicked when I only received the mantel and didn't see the fireplace which was delivered later that day. It took the manufacturers to tell me that there are two deliveries. If there are any questions or concerns, please call the manufacturers directly. Trust me...you wont be sorry.

I love this fireplace but there are 2 manuals (one for the wooden parts and one for the fireplace itself). Given that they are separated we started with the one related to the wooden parts and we missed one step of the second manual, hence we had to disassemble or just keep going. We just kept going (we skip the step that prevents the fireplace itself from being pulled, so we hope nobody want to pull it :).

Other than that I do not have major complains but feel very warm in winter.

Lovely design. Great heat! Easy to move from place to place. The "new" smell disappears quickly in a few hours via following the directions. (I also used a tiny bit of lavender oil on the top fins during those hours to mask the initial unpleasant smell. And I placed it near a window that was ajar.) We haven't used the programming so I can't comment on that (see below for update!). (There was one similar model that lacked the programming feature, but it was not sold by Amazon and required a substantial shipping fee. My advice: Always check the origin and any shipping cost! When given a choice, I prefer Amazon. Second choice is to go through Amazon, if it's not something Amazon carries.)

Back to the heater:

This heats quickly. And it's cute! Easy to store, as this model is particularly slim. I strongly recommend reading the directions so you avoid overtaxing your electric outlets or circuits. Beyond that, this thing will be your "friend" on cold mornings as it heats up so quickly. It's like a little fireplace except it's safe.

My vote of confidence in the heater and in Amazon service (it arrived 2 days after shipping!) is so strong we are ordering a second one. This will enable us to keep the house temperature lower and just warm the rooms we're actually occupying at any one time.

My initial order included another DiLonghi heater (HHP1500, Mica Panel Radiator), which is very attractive looks almost like a small TV except with wire mesh instead of a screen. The oil-filled radiator keeps its heat longer and puts out more heat. But the Mica Panel radiator is preferable if space is limited and you're looking for something to keep your feet warm while reading or watching TV; it puts out consistent, gentle heat mostly from the front, a bit from the top whereas the oil-filled radiator puts out a lot of heat from the top. (Also, the mica panel one is so light, you can easily carry it from one room to another.) We're happy with both, but the oil-filled radiator is the one we decided to duplicate as, for us, it's more versatile, and can really "add" heat where you need it thus allowing us to have the thermostat lower. (Both heaters do not use blowers, which, if you have allergies, is a big plus! That's another reason to supplement forced air central heating with these space heaters.)

We chose a slim model. So I expect the larger, heavier models would be great heat "work horses" if you're looking for something with an even greater heat output.

Programming function of this heater:

By accident I have now learned about the programming. It's an ingenious design, in my view. It's not via a computer, but there's dial where you set the current time (be sure to move that dial only clockwise!) and then there is a circle of tiny little red levers (like tiny hairs, except they move). And these little levers are really on/off controls. If the lever is moved to the center of the circle, then it's "on" so if you don't need to "program" it, you simply move all the little levers toward the center and you have nice little circle of red. However, for any spans of time where you want the heater to turn itself off, you move the lever to the outer part of the circle.

Does your heater APPEAR to be "broken" because it won't turn on? Check that little red circle of levers.... in case for some reason they've been moved and the unit has turned itself off. You can easily put them back the way you want them.

Again, it's a brilliant little programming design! Very easy to understand. And it really is not subject to the kind of problems of things that you program digitally. As I said above, it's like a circle of "on/off" switches that you can control individually.

This is a great heater. I like that it creates its own airflow without a fan the hot air just comes off the top as if there were a fan! I also love the timer function you can set the heater to be on or off in 15 minute segments all day long. I use this feature to have it warm up my bedroom so it's warm when I arrive home from work, just before bedtime, and also to warm up the room before I wake up, without having the heater run all night (it's a powerful little thing!). The air doesn't get dried out, but it circulates and becomes toasty warm. There is also three output settings (1,2, and 3), so you can really crank it up if you need some heat quickly, but keep it low for everyday use. I'm extremely pleased with this heater.

If you've got high ceilings or an area larger than 14x14 and expect this unit to heat, you're going to be disappointed. Also, as the previous review states, the heat rises from the top of the unit, which is about 2 1/2 feet off the ground. If you're prone to "cold feet" this unit is NOT for you.

There is no fan on this unit, so it's perfect for an office, baby's room or bedroom that always seems to be a bit chilly. If you have a large bathroom, this would be great to pre-set the attached 24 hour timer to come on an hour or so before you get up.

So if you want to heat a 12x12 or 12x14 room or smaller this unit will be fine. Just dont expect your legs and feet to be warm.

Before we bought this heater, we have been using a DeLonghi TRD0715T for more than two years. The TRD0715T has been working well but it has some problems too. For example, it sometimes gives noise if its position is not "right". It also smells if it is on the highest setting. Recently it started to have ticking noise from the timer. But overall, we have been very happy with its performance. So we bought the TRV0715T for our daughter's room. The TRV0715T is smaller in size, and much quieter. It doesn't have noticeable smell even on the highest setting. However, we feel it is not generating enough heat like TRD0715T, although they all are 1500 watts. We use the middle setting all the time because the current will be too high for our apartment if we use the highest setting. If you have a big room to heat up, I wouldn't recommend it to you.

Best space heater! Especially when you have babies and young children. I keep one in my master suit which is about 20x16. Whole upstairs is about 61 degrees when the suit is set at 70 during winter time. I feel better that I am not heating up the whole upstairs when I only need the heat in my suit. I also keep 2 of these in my finished basement which is about 40X15. Without the heater, basement is at around 58, with it 73 when set at medium setting. My baby can touch it and get startled, but never caused any scream or crying. I feel very safe and good about this heater. VERY EASY TO FIGURE OUT THE CONTROL!....well if you are used to setting outlet timers.

First of all, ignore the one star review. If you can't take time to research what you intend to buy, then you deserve to be dissapointed.

I installed this heater along with a basic honeywell thermostat in my bedroom. I live in an old home, so heating is a pain. Being only 1000 watts, it doesn't heat super fast, but I can definitively say that it can get and maintain a much more comfortable room temp than the fan forced heater it replaced. Being that it is mounted onto the wall, it is completely out of the way.

The unit seems well made and so far I haven't had any issues with it. Even when the thermostat turns it on full heat, it is silent And makes no creaking sounds. The quiet even heat is absolute bliss when I lay down to rest for the night. I had gotten use to fan heaters so much that now it is almost eerie how quiet the room is.

With my experience having this heater, im going to be buying more of their heaters.

This 'Cadet' stuff is a misrepresented farce. It should be in a building supply online store and not in home products. People are looking here in 'amazon' for a unit with a thermostat that they can plug into a wall socket and get heat not for a partially assembled non-functioning unit that will need a thermostat and special tools and skill to hopefully work. It doesn't plug into a wall socket, you need to connect 'supply wires' to it! just look at what is required to get a 'Cadet' baseboard heater to work at . In the video it states that if you are not able to assemble this yourself, you should get a licensed electrician to do it. Oh yes, at $50/hr! the electrician would wind up costing more than the unit! I am used to buying something that states what you are getting, this unit description states what you are NOT getting with an ambiguous 'no' that could be mistaken for 'number'. This company apparently floods an online store with partially assembled non-functioning items that can be listed at a lower price and overshadow the few really good working items. I sent the 'heater' and 'thermostat' back for a refund and bought a somewhat higher priced functioning unit that came with a thermostat and wall socket power cord and gave me good heat right away.

I happened upon the "Talking Wirless Grill Thermometor ("TWGT")in Lowes $29). Being a gadget guy I could not pass it up. Got it home, put in the batteries and it worked perfectly. It immediately measured room temp within 1 degree of my digital room thermometer. I Cooked "Beercan Chicken" on the patio grill that weekend. Put the probe into the thigh as directed and placed the base unit on my kitchen counter about 40 feet away. Opened a cold beer and watched the info on the base unit as I prepared other food in the kitchen. No need to periodically go out to the grill and check the chicken. Instead I watched football and the unit as it measured temp up and up. When it was time, it told me "It's almost done." Headed to the patio when the unit told me "It's done". The TWGT worked great. I was so impressed I went and bought a second one to give as a gift.

Then I tried to use it a second time. I had steak marinated and ready for the grill. Football on TV. Turned the TWGT on but the base was not getting a signal from the probe. I changed batteries, hit the reset button on the probe, shook it, cursed it, prayed. Nothing made it work. I even opened the one I had bought to give as a gift it did not work either. Both units and probes were on but not communicating with each other. I gave up and cooked the steak the old way by trying to time it, lifting the grill and testing it. Very dissappointing.

Fortunately for me, I love gadgets and did not give up. Later, I kept experimenting, trying to figure out what was wrong. I went to Amazon.com and read a review saying you have to hit the reset button, but I had already tried that too many times without success. Then I figured it out. When you turn on the units, if they do not talk to each other, you have to press the reset buttons on BOTH THE PROBE AND THE MAIN UNIT. I'd never noticed the main unit also has a reset button. I turned on both units, pressed both reset buttons one after the other and --SUCCESS! Both units and their probes started talking. Again they were within 1 degree of room temp. I cannot wait to grill out this weekend! Maybe on Sat. for the Gators and on Sun. for the Bucs.

Summing it up? Yea. It would be a good idea for OS to put a troubleshooting section in the manual to cover this problem. As it is you need to either figure it out or call OS. I suspect many of these amazingly fun grill gadgets are lying unused in some dissappointed owner's junk drawer. But, if you know the secret (you can probably get the secret if you call OS customer service)this thermometer is fun, and convenient. I won't grill without it. In fact, I will now use both units at the same time for different foods cooked simultaniously (so much for the gift idea). BTW. The unit's voice is female and she speaks multiple languages. My advice set her for French. I don't speak the language but she sure sounds good. :)

I've used this product for almost two years now and really enjoy it. However, I've had problems getting the two parts to sync up, especially after I hadn't used it in a while. There's a really good review in here that walks you through the process of hitting the reset buttons (under the batter cover) on BOTH units, but even this didn't always work. I was ready to go back to a hardwired unit when I found a solution -remove the batteries in both units, wait a few minutes and reinstall. This has worked for me every time. I now store the units with the batteries removed (good idea anyway) and it has worked with no trouble when I reinstall the batteries. Give this a try before you give up. This issue is why I didn't give it 5 stars.

One other thing to be careful about. Keep water away from where the cable enters the probe. Incorrect temp readings can come from water contamination. From other sites, this seems to be a common problem with these wireless thermometers. I clean the probe with a cloth and rinse under the sink, never letting water touch anything but the part of the probe below the loop that enters the meat.

We bought this from a local hardware store. Our previous thermometers were the analog instant read types and they've died. We use this 3 to 4 times a week for cooking fish, hamburgers, steaks, poultry and have been extroardinarily pleased with the results each and every time. Now, if I don't use it, I can tell the difference. The fish flakes apart perfectly, the poultry is absolutely not bloody, and the hamburgers and steaks are cooked to temperature. There is a setting to set your own temperature if you don't like the presets.

Make sure to put the probe into the meatiest part of the meat and not touching any bones. Also, don't put the probe directly over the flame (the manual says these things). I angle it towards the front of the grill so that it is almost under the cover. That way I can close the grill but it is not over direct flame. I've cooked from low BBQ temps to High grill and had no trouble with it. It's made making dinner much less of a hassle.

We've not used it in the oven, though it says you can. We had one issue where the base unit lost track of the remote unit. The temperature reading started flashing and it couldn't reconnect. I turned off the base unit and turned it back on and it reconnected with no further problems.

We like ours so much that we bought another one as a gift.

The disparity in opinion on this unit is interesting. I can understand it based on my own experience. I couldn't get the transmitter to sync with the base unit. I fooled with it for awhile and finally got it working. I saw a lot of information on the internet related to trouble syncing the unit, so I took the batteries out again and then could get it to sync again. I was at the point of throwing up my hands and sending it back with a nasty note, but finally realized the following:

The user's manual is terrible, but here is how I finally got the transmitter/base unit to talk:

1. With no batteries in the transmitter, install the batteries in the base unit.

2. Turn on the base unit.

3. Press LANG to select the language.

4. At this point, the base unit should be working fully. There will be ---displayed as the current temperature on the base unit.

5. Install the batteries in the transmitter.

6. Press the RESET inside the battery cover on the transmitter.

Consistently, the transmitter and base unit synchronized, but it had to be done in this order. The RESET on the base unit or when the temperature probe was plugged into the transmitter did not seem to affect the sync process. The above procedure is consistent with the user's manual, but the manual does not convey how sensitive the process is to the order of the steps.

This is my experience, hopefully it will help others because the manual certainly does not.

I love my Thermoflo Smart Heat Heater. Once it has gotten the room to a comfortable temperature it is very quiet. Even when it is just starting to heat up a cold room it is quieter than most other heaters with a fan. I live in a one bedroom apt. and when it is really cold I just point it more in the direction of the room that I am in at the time. It was only designed to do one room but I did just fine with one heater and 2+ rooms all winter. And yes it is nice even warmth, no cold spots.

Seabreeze SOH7000TA works similar to Vornado heaters. Both of these are "no glow" fan based heaters which heats up the room by circulating the air. Both Seabreeze and Vornado heaters are high priced heaters compared to Holmes, Honeywell, Lasko brands etc. It is not made in China like other heaters. I believe this is made in Canada and Vornados are made in USA. So you pay higher price compared to other brands.

Pros: It raises the temperature of a room in just 30 to 45 minutes compared to the brand I mentioned above. It is ideal for use wherever zone-heating is required. It is whisper quiet. Instead of an Oscillating feature, it has a sweeping feature, which sweeps warm air across the room. The heating element does not glow so it is safe around kids and pets. Includes many safety features; and it automatically reduces heat output as the room's comfort level is reached; and finally, it does not dry up the air like ceramic heaters. Some compare this to ceramic heaters expecting a instant radiant/fire place type output.

Cons: Controls are not digital; does not have a three-prong plug but it has a polarized plug.

This heater was bought to replace an old Vornado, and we have been using it for just one day. However, it is doing such a terrific job, that I feel confident in writing this review even after so little time. We are using the ThermaFlo in our living room, and as a bonus it is also heating the adjacent dining room. I should mention that our house is a small rowhouse that was built in the 1840s, so we are talking about probably 300 square feet, but as an old house, it is very drafty, and the heater is keeping those rooms at a steady 71 degrees. (We did as suggested by the company, and lowered the thermostat on our central heating.) The ThermaFlo is extremely quiet, and the heat is absolutely even in all part of the rooms. We could not be happier with this purchase.

While researching heaters, I kept reading about heaters where corners were being cut on what were formally standard safety features (i.e. a working tip over power cutoff switch).

You'll notice a common thread on most inexpensive heaters that on one or two start reviews you see mention of episodes like: "It started smoking / throwing sparks / nearly burned my house down good thing I was there". This was a small percentage of most cheap heaters (like the one and two star reviews) but even if it's happening say 7% of the time, that's something to be concerned about.

Hence my quest:

I decided I wanted something quality and safe. Not the cheapest. Did a lot of research, ordered this. Have had it for almost two weeks. I have this in a small bedroom 9 X 12 feet. When the heater initially starts, you don't have this focused blast. But within 3 minutes on a moderately chill mid-October evening the entire room is * evenly * filled with heat. The fan is there but it does not have a harsh timbre (is not obnoxious to the ears). I actually find the fan "noise" a bit comforting. It's certainly quieter than my Lasko ceramic heater. Admittedly the Lasko cost me more like 40 dollars about 7 years ago and it's fine for what it is.

The controls on the seabreeze are simplicity itself: A red orange LED lit on/off rocker "button" switch. The LED is not overly bright which is good. The thermostat is just a rotary dial type affair. The good news: The thermostat is accurate. Also, since this heater is designed for a sort of semi-variable output (I believe it toggles one or both of the heating elements on or off as needed) it doesn't seem to have that constant on-off thing like my other heater has. It's more laid back / transitional. The other part of what's causing that felt effect is this heater has motorized louvers (slats) that cycle back and forth.

Quality of heat: Very even. The room doesn't feel brutally dried out. This heater has a good "throw" i.e. after about 2 minutes if I stand 8 feet away from it that whole area feels evenly heated.

I'm giving this five stars at this time.

P.S. If you order from Ace hardware thru Amazon in hopes of getting the candy red top colored version it comes in black just the same.

UPDATE 12/24/2012:

It's over 2 months later and we still love the heater. It only turns on the part (i.e. 1/2) of the unit that needs to be on. Turns on both halves if it has to do a lot of catching up to the set temperature. Relatively quiet. The settings are as straightforward and simple as can be.

UPDATE 1/13/2013: Still like it.

Honeywell makes a very large line of programmable electronic thermostats. At first glance, this particular thermostat has nothing to distinguish it from any other programmable tstat from your local hardware store. (7-day programming, +/1 degree accuracy, etc.) However, this thermostat has some functions that make it quite a bit better. I've had RiteTemp's and Lux tstats, and this one is much better.

Most electronic thermostats kick on the system when you are one degree under, and then run it until you are one degree over. This (and all Honeywell electronic tstats) instead target a certain number of cycles per hour (based on system type), and try and hold the temperature as constant as possible. Since I installed this a few days ago, it has not budged off of the setpoint.

Another cool feature is the recovery feature. Basically, it measures how quickly your house is losing heat (or warming up, in the summer), and kicks on the system at the correct time so it is at your setpoint right at the time you program. This eliminates guessing how long it will take your house to heat so it will be toasty when you get home at 6PM. Instead, you just set the tstat for 6PM and let it figure out the rest.

The install guide is clear and presented me with no problems. Admittedly, I don't have a complicated system (1-stage heat/cool.) It tells you how to properly wire it, and is fairly straightforward on when you need to call for help. Most folks shouldn't have any problems.

IMPORTANT: Use the included wire stickers! Some installers do not attach, say, the white wire to the "W" terminal. Depending on whim, they can completely attach the wires at random. Bad things happen if you plug the wrong wire onto the wrong terminal. If a wire was on the "W" terminal before, it needs to go on the new W terminal, even if it is bright yellow.

I didn't have any trouble at all programming this one... in a few easy steps:

1) Hit the "Schedule" button.

2) Use the arrow keys and the "select" button to select which day(s) you want to program. Hit "Next Step".

3) Use the arrow keys and "Next Step" to go through the setpoints and times.

4) Hit "Done" when finished.

If you need to set any advanced options (like changing to a two-stage furnace or A/C, setting heat pump options, etc.): Hit "System", then hold down "Fan" for five seconds. Use the table in the manual and "Next Step" to pull up the option you need to change and use the arrow keys to change it. I set up the Filter Change Reminder that way. The fact you have to refer to the manual isn't that bad since they are options you won't have to change more than once.

I had a new Bryant small packaged system installed and decided to replace my older White-Rogers digital thermostat with Honeywell RTH7600.

Three days after the installation the thermostat is working fine. The numbers are large and clear, the programming was easy and intuitive. It is quite a bit smaller than the old White-Rogers and looks more elegant. I like that the thermostat can be taken off the wall and programmed while you sit in a chair.

I noticed a few issues, but nothing to prevent me from recommending this thermostat. These are the issues that I wanted to mention:

1. There is no back light button. For the back light to turn on, you have to touch one of the buttons on the screen. Once you do that, it activates the appropriate function (lowers temp setting, goes into fan functions, etc.) Then, you have to cancel that operation if that is not what you want. Therefore, just a simple checking of the temperature setting in the dark involves a bunch of button presses.

2. Advanced programming relies on codes. I needed to use the advance programming to set a reminder for filter replacement. The advanced functions use codes like 0120, 0170, 0300, etc. instead of words. Then, you have to select an appropriate switch for each function, e.g. "0" off, "1" 1 month filter reminder, "2" 3 months filter reminder, etc. I would prefer English words on screen rather than codes. However, codes are very clearly explained in the installation manual, so you better hold on to it if you need to use advance settings in the future.

UPDATE: It's been a year and a half since the installation and the thermostat is working fine. I decided not to do any advance settings for auto switch between the heater and A/C. It is still on it's first set of rechargeable LSD AA batteries (Sony CycleEnergy AAs). I am satisfied with this thermostat and, other than the lack of a backlight button, I do not have any concerns.

I had bought this for use on my Carrier Heat Pump with Auxiliary heat. I had a hard time figuring out if it was compatible with this configuration but this is the unit you would want. It was only a couple of bucks more for the touchscreen so I went for it.

Amazon shipped it out to me from a warehouse that is only about 20 miles from my home in Indy and for some reason it took 10 days from the time of shipping! That was a disappointment but once I got it here it was easy to install and setup even for my complicated setup. I read some reviews that complained about the back light feature not being easy to turn on and I do agree with that problem which is the only reason for the 4-stars instead of 5. To get the back light to turn on, you have to hit a button on the screen which ends up changing something that you may not have wanted to change or gone to a menu that you did not want. What they need to do is design a button on the top of the unit (outside of the touchscreen) that you could easily find in the dark which will light up the screen.

Once installed, setting the unit up and programming the features as well as setting up the schedule and temperatures was a piece of cake. I'm not sure why others had problems I thought it was easy (although I am an engineer!). Also, I read a review that mentioned a loud "clicking" noise the unit makes when kicking on and off. I disagree with this as the standard Carrier thermostat that came with my furnace was noticeably louder than this Honeywell unit so I am pleased with that.

I would recommend this unit to anyone but just don't expect the back light feature to be useful as I still have to turn on the hall light to see what I'm doing so the feature is pretty much useless. Its easy to install, easy to operate, and should end up saving me a lot of money on my electric bill!

About a year earlier, I purchased and installed a Lux TX9000TS Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat. It's a good thermostat and has many similar features. My house has two zones with central heat and air conditioning, and I felt that the Honeywell was better suited to my second zone. While both are good thermostats, there are some notable differences.

Both thermostats are described in detail by their respective manufacturers, and both offer flexibility with the ability to program four temperature settings for each day of the week. Both have touch screen displays that can show comprehensive information and allow you to change settings with relative degrees of ease. Both fall short in some areas, and both exceed the other in some ways.

An important feature for any thermostat is ease of use, the ability for a user to change the temperature without reading a user manual, and the ability to program the thermostat without a confusing array of steps. Traditional thermostats have a single knob or lever that allows a user to point a line or arrow to a specific temperature. Ironically, both of these thermostats have situations where even raising or lowering the temperature by a few degrees can be a show stopper for an untrained user.

The Lux model has a clean and concise user interface. It has a pleasant looking blue LCD touch screen with larger numbers and less crowding. It has a separate button for back lighting. It displays the current temperature, and touching the temperature lets you see the set point and up and down arrows to override it. The problem with that is that despite its elegant appearance, not seeing the set temperature leaves untrained users at a loss. When I was out of town, another resident of the home had a party and nobody there could figure out how to start the air conditioning. The temperature had been left on hold. Since the button for the light is not on the touch screen itself, it's easy to miss by somebody searching the screen for it.

By contrast, the Honeywell has a busier screen with more information. It displays both the room temperature and the set temperature. The up and down arrows are always visible. Touching the screen once lights up the unit. The down side to the latter feature is that the first press of any button will not perform its function until the unit lights up. That's potentially confusing, but not a show stopper. The feature on the Lux is preferable for somebody who knows how to use it, but the Honeywell is better for typical users.

One of the reasons I bought this unit is that it works with heat and air conditioning and does not need to be switched from one to the other. As the seasons cool down, the local temperature drops down to the mid to low 50s, Fahrenheit. But I still get days when the afternoon sun will raise the temperature of some rooms to over 80 degrees. If the air conditioner is needed in the evening, the room is comfortable on its own at bed time, and the heat is needed in the morning, the Honeywell seems to make the most sense. The catch, however, it the notion of the set temperature. If you want AC to go on when the temperature is above 80 and you want heat to go on when the temperature is above 66, the thermostat can handle it fine. If the temperature is outside of that range, it's clear which set point is relevant.

UPDATE:

But if the temperature is within that range, there are two concurrent set points, but only one is shown. If the last function was heat, then the up and down arrows show the heat set point and let you change it. Likewise for AC. But if you want to change the "other" set point, (for example, you have a hot day followed by a cold night, but not cold enough for the heat to go on) the arrows alone won't help. When you press an arrow, the set point temperature will flash, and will have the word "heat" or "cool" under it. The word "system" will also flash on the bottom left corner. If you press "system" while it is flashing, it will toggle the heat/cool set points that the arrows are adjusting. That was far from obvious and the user manual didn't help. Almost all users would be at a loss to change the temperature for whichever was not the last function used.

Both thermostats work well and are generally easy to use if you read the manual. Many one-time settings for the Honeywell require cycling through cryptic code numbers and setting a value for each of them, making things easy with a manual but impossible without one. On the Honeywell, setting the year, month and date will allow the unit to know the day of the week. But the date is never displayed on the screen in general use, which raises the question of why you are not simply asked to specify the current weekday at setup time. Knowing the date allow the thermostat to keep track of daylight saving time, so it's ultimately for a purpose. But having a simple way of displaying (and changing) the date would have made sense. Setting things on the Lux is generally easier overall, but on a day to day basis, the goal is to rarely need any user interaction.

Both thermostats keep track of filter usage, but the Lux keeps track of the number of hours that the system was in use. It also give the user more information about recent energy usage in general. The Honeywell keeps track of the number of days of use between filter changes. I believe that means the number of hours/24 rather than on how many days the filter was used. Seeing a message saying "Filter usage count 288 hours" is less ambiguous than one saying "filter 12 days."

From a functional standpoint, both thermostats work well. If you've read the manuals, chances are that you will do well with either. The Honeywell has a more nicely presented professional looking manual, but it also needs one more than the Lux. Both have annoying quirks, and both have strengths over the other. In an environment with seasonal changes and big temperature swings, having a thermostat like the Honeywell can be an advantage. It has Smart Response technology to keep track of how long it takes to get the room to the set temperature so it can get there at the set time, rather than merely going on at the set time and taking however long it takes. That could be an advantage depending on how long your system takes to heat or cool, and depending on temperature range settings.

Either one of these thermostats could work quite well, but the Honeywell is theoretically closer to the ultimate goal of "set it and forget it."

I have a heat pump system whose thermostat was original (early 80s). I changed out the old thermostat for this one in about 10 minutes. The little labels this one comes with are awesome. And the "alternative wiring" chart is really helpful since some of the wire names have changed but their function hasn't. The only thing that was a SLIGHT problem was my fault, not the products (in the advanced menu where you setup the heatpump type, I input a wrong setting. I realized it the same day and fixed what I had done) Everything works flawlessly and my system seems to be running less yet keeping the house comfortable.

I am using this thermostat for radiant floor heat. It's a great deal, same or better than some that are twice the price. I love the fact that you can program each day differently to accommodate different schedule through the week. It is intuitive to program, has a vacation setting, lit display and looks great. This same thermostat was sold by SunTouch 3 years ago under the SunTouch name, for more than double the cost. Now SunTouch uses a different thermostat that only allows Mon-Fri and Sat/Sun settings.

First let me say the shipping on this item was incredibly quick. I love the design and backlight. It works great in the basement I'm finishing. I installed two heaters that required line voltage thermostats. I wanted something that didn't require a battery to operate. Just makes sense that a line voltage t-stat would have enough power to run without batteries. Unfortunately, many of the stats I looked at still required a battery. So, I found and purchased this one. I love it. The only problem I faced is the back of the stat needs to recess into a deep enough box to allow for the 5 wire nuts (2-lines,2-neutrals,1-ground). In my situation the wall I was installing the stat was only about 2" deep including the drywall. However, I was able to make it work. I installed it 3-4 weeks ago so with no problems so far. Great stat, I'd buy more if I had the need.

I first bought this thermostat under the Suntouch name. It was a great functioning thermostat, but its directions did not emphasize you need to have a larger box for installation. Over 3 years the heat damaged the wiring to the point it melted all of the connection caps, most of the wiring and melted much of the electrical box. Amazingly, it kept working AND my house didn't burn down. I looked and found this one and without knowing the damage behind the main device, I replaced the panel with this new one and it almost instantly tripped is internal GFI. So, long story short, replaced the thermostat and this one is working great, much cooler and in a bigger box. My thought is it is a fantastic thermostat and checking the GFI every so often, as recommended is a good idea. I have 120 sq feet of underfloor heat connected to it, I love the pre-programmed schedule and would recommend this to anyone with the caveat of 1) test the GFI when you test your smoke detectors and 2) install it in a larger than standard electrical box.

this item should Not be used or recommended to the heating pad. when I had my electrician to install it, there is No remote sensor provided, and my electrician told me it won't work if there is no remote sensor. So I contacted Honeywell and seller and I would give a Big credit to the seller Paul when he got the return notice from Amazon. He did his best to send me the correct one TH115-AF-120. I bought one of these because of the lid and the controllable temperature; and, the 5-star review. Don't know what the 5-star person received but the first unit arrived and I couldn't get the cord to stay attached to the fryer. It is a clever(?)design meant to easily pull away from the pot if someone should trip over the cord thereby avoiding spilling the pot. Apparently, the cord is supposed to be held by a weak magnet with it's shallow electrical sockets engaging short electrical pins sticking out of the fryer. Problem is that the magnet is so weak that it cannot support the weight of a few inches of the cord hanging out in the air. In other words, when you let go of the magnetic plug, the weight of the cord pulls the plug away from the fryer.

So, I returned the first one, thinking that maybe it was a bad magnet and Amazon had me a new one by the next business day (good old Amazon!)

Fryer #2 arrived and I eagerly took it from the box expecting to have the new cord work like a charm. Nope. Same problem. Not to be defeated by some dopey designer, I duct taped the cord to the side of the unit and fired it up. The temperature selection knob seemed a little vague/loose as I rotated it to 350F. It got only warm. After an hour, my laser thermometer said that it was only 115F in the pot. Heck, it would have reached 115F if I had just put it outside in the Texas sun.

Went to the adjustment knob to see what might be the problem and upon turning it back and forth a few times it losened up and would now rotate 360 degrees. Broken without ever getting hot. This one went back too but I learned my lesson and took money back instead of a 3rd attempt. Sheesh.

I ordered this little fryer because I had a craving for Lumpia but usually stay away from most fried stuff. So my needs where minimal. I like the compact side and the temperature control. But as someone else stated theirs arrived broken, and so did mine, it doesn't turn off. Not a deal breaker as yanking the cord does a good job of that. The short cords magnet stays on well and hasn't been an issue and it heat up quick.

If you fry a lot this might be to lightly built for you, but it gets used at my place about once a month to prepare side items, so it works out well.

Good light duty fryer, for a cheap price. Anyone using it regularly would want something more substantial.

Bought this thing then saw the negative reviews. Braced myself for a disaster but so far it's working fine. Unlike some others, I had no problem securely connecting the power cord. The unit's not super powerful, so it takes a while for it to reach 375 degrees. However, it reaches 350 degrees very quickly. The lid is also nice to have. The unit looks cheap but seems to perform as promised. We'll see how long it lasts.

It was 'ignaugurated' at a party I hosted, and the 5 gal keg didn't last long! (Of course, it was a good beer...locally brewed Pacific Coast Emerald Ale.)

Be prepared: After it's set up and you've had people over, you're going to be QUITE popular! Expect comments like "I'm going to be over at your place every afternoon." Haier America should realize their best marketing ploy is satisfied customers. I've had it two weeks and Haier may be selling 3 additional units soon.

OK, so what about the product rating, especially in light of all the negative comments provided earlier? Well, here's my take on it:

Set up was fairly simple, if you discount the fact that one part was missing (see below).

Quality seems to be adequate. They use quality parts, e.g., the CO2 regulator and dispensing valve.

It's keeping my second (post party) keg perfectly chilled and pressurized. (Since the first keg only lasted several hours, we can't base much judgement on that.)

It's wonderful to come home to a fresh, draft beer!

Finding a place to refill the CO2 canister can be difficult. Most commercial places will only exchange (take your brand new canister and give you a used, filled canister). I finally found a fire extinguisher service that does refills after making MANY calls.

Does this make it perfect? Hardly.

My experience confirms that Haier America has poor customer service. I purcased the unit a week in advance of a party I was hosting. After getting it home and setting it up, I realized (according to the manual) that it was missing the washer that goes between the CO2 tank and the regulator. I called Haier customer service the following morning and was shocked by how they treated me. The basic tone of their response was "tough luck." I would have to follow their procedures which were: 1) fax or send via US mail my purchase receipt 2) Allow them two business days from their receipt of this to get back to me 3) After doing a 'confirmation' they would send me the washer within two weeks.

I was irate and told them so! I had purchased the unit specifically for my upcoming party and now would not be able to use it! Their reponse: "These are our procedures."

I did two things after this:

1) I located the manufacturer of the CO2 regulator and contacted them about the possibility of getting a washer. They informed me that the regulator was redesigned and did not need a washer. Haier was supposed to include an update with their user manual (they didn't, and customer service obviously wasn't aware of this change).

2) I located information on Haier America and faxed their CEO an scathing letter telling him what I thought about spending $500 for something and not being able to use it at the function I bought it for! Lo and behold, the next day I received a call from their corporate offices saying they would be overnighting me the missing washer. I explained I had learned it wasn't needed, but the woman calling me wasn't taking any chances. She overnighted it to me anyway. Moral of the story: Make your voice heard when you recieve bad service.

Anyway, my 'washerless' set up is now working fine and I'm loving the unit.

As the other reviewers have stated, the dispenser freezes in the back and does not thaw, nor does the temperature of the dispenser work correctly, mine runs warm even at the highest setting. Although customer service will document your call in Ottawa, their corporate office in New York will not return my call. The three repair numbers customer service gave me did no good as I was also told by one repair person that Haier does not reimburse the repairs and as a result they will not come out to my home. Customer service told me twice that they have recommended to the corporate office to replace my unit, but of the five to six calls I have placed over the past two months, I have not received any calls that any progress or action will be taken. I have been trying to get my dispenser serviced since September.

Overall, as far as the product goes, I have to say I'm quite happy with the beer dispenser. No problems with the temperature adjustment (but then, I'm not trying to keep my beer at 34 degrees), it pours nicely, the components seem to be high quality aside from the plastic hose clamps for the CO2 line, but those were easy to replace with metal ones at the hardware store.

However, I have to agree with the other reviewers, Haier's customer service is...challenging. My wife bought me the dispenser for Christmas (that's true love). She had it delivered to a neighbor's house so I wouldn't suspect anything. On December 26, I went to retrieve the box and set it up in my basement. Upon opening the unit, I discovered that a significant number of parts were missing LIKE THE ENTIRE CO2 SYSTEM, TAP, AND KEG CONNECTION. Basically I had a $600 mini-fridge. You'd think someone in shipping might notice that the box was 25 pound light, but, whatever.

I called Haier, and they were fairly helpful at first. They told me I should fax a list of the missing parts along with my proof of purchase, which I did. They then told me it would be a couple days to "validate" my claim, a couple days to process the order, and then two weeks for the parts to arrive. I called back every few days to see how things were going, and it was easy to get a real person on the phone each time, but these people weren't able to offer much information.

Apparently, Haier's parts warehouse is located on the dark side of the moon, because it was impossible for customer service to tell me when or how the parts would be shipping. No way to get a tracking number, no way to know if the parts were in stock, nothing. So, I waited patiently for three weeks. When the parts didn't show up, I called back and, surprise, they couldn't tell me what happened. I talked to a supervisor at Haier, and she told me the same thing. She started to resubmit the order, but several parts were now showing up as backordered on her screen, with no ETA available.

At this point, I was done with Haier. I called Amazon and explained my situation, and I said I wanted to get an exchange or a refund. At first, I was told to "contact the manufacturer." When I explained that I'd been doing that for the past month with no luck, they agreed to exchange it, no problem. They also said I wasn't the only one this happened to. Within two days, a replacement was on its way, and I had a tracking number. Thank you, Amazon.

So, I didn't have tap beer for Christmas, or New Year's, or my birthday, but I've got it for the Super Bowl, and it's good.

The place I get my kegs from gave me the right washer so I have not had any problems on that side whatsoever.

This was an impulse buy for me. Sure I did some research then one Saturday I was having a party and went and picked this up at the local Brandsmart. Beer would come out cold, not as cold as I'd like but not too warm. One thing I learned right away, you have to let the keg sit overnight before tapping inside the cooler. I'm new to this, so I did not know the pitfalls of tapping a warm keg. I came on here and read some of the reviews. It was not until about a month later that the temperature issue became a problem. I hesitated but took a previous poster's advice and now the beer is as cold as I like. I recommenc going for a half to 3/4 turn on the screw as opposed to a full one. You dont want the thing to run so much that it burns out. I would find it odd how the cooler would cycle on for about 5 minutes then off for 20. Now its on for 20-30 and off for the same. Nonetheless, my Michelob Light has never tasted better. I have not had to deal with Haier directly and from the looks of it, I hope I wont have to. This unit is a good value. Once you get past the temperature issue, you cant ask for a better deal. Both the tap and faucet are good quality as well as he Co2 tank. I recommend you get a better regulator with the "mickey mouse ears". One to tell you the pressure and the other how much gas is left in the tank. .

I purchased this product about a month ago, when Best Buy had it on sale for $499. It was a little bit of an impulse buy, so when I got a chance I jumped online to read some reviews. I was seriously concerned about the negative reviews here and at other sites, which were mainly concerning lack of service from the authorized service centers, but which also seemed to show a pattern where the kegerator would not keep the beer cold enough.

I promised myself that if I was happy with the product after a reasonable amount of time, I would post a review, just to balance things out.

I personally don't keep the beer below 34 degrees. Depending on what point in the cooling cycle the kegerator is, my beer is usually between 34 and 38 degrees. This is plenty cold enough for me but then again, I don't need a nipple for my beer mug. 8-) I have been happy with the cooling ability of the unit.

I'm still concerned that if I have any service issues, there may be a problem, fortunately I purchased the 3 year warranty offered by Best Buy for $24.95. Hopefully, that will allow me to get a replacement unit if I do have any issues.

At the sale price I was able to obtain the unit for, I think this is about the best bang for the buck (unless you make your own) for a kegerator that takes half barrels.

I researched carefully before buying another iron. E-How provided insights, and I read reviews of the best irons. A good steam iron should have at least 300 steam holes, my sources told me, and 1700 watts of power. This Rowenta has 400 steam holes, a smooth gliding sole plate with specially designed tip to get around buttons. This is an update of the Focus DZ 5080, but probably pretty much the same. It seems that irons have gotten more expensive over the years, but cheaper in manufacturing and quality. I was so tired of my Black & Decker spitting brownish liquid onto my clothes, dripping, cooling instead of steaming. I actually like ironing, but need a tool that works. The Rowenta Dw5080 is great -what a real steam iron should be. The first time I filled it it really gave off steam, has a nice feel, good weight, and glides easily. Heavy cotton fabric, which used to take several passes, now takes one and looks perfectly smooth. All of the functions are easy to see and use and it has a large water tank. It does use up water, but so did my old B&D. The difference is, this one really gives off steam. One note on filling it: if you get little white flakes, your water is too hard, so add 50/50 with spring water (not distilled), and be faithful about using the self-clean feature once a month. So far, I just love this iron and look forward to ironing with new delight.

I hope it lasts a long time. I am tired of buying poor quality products that end up in landfills.

I work at a huge corporate facility and have to use an iron often, sometimes daily. Having freshly pressed clothes is something I take pride in and ironing is so much cheaper then taking your clothes to the dry cleaner (plus the chemicals they use....blech). Back when I was living with roommates one of them had a nice Rowenta iron. That iron was such a work horse it put my old B&D iron to shame. I was sad when we all parted ways and got places of our own because I had to give up use of such a great iron. So here we are a year and change later and boom my old B&D iron I started using again began to leak which was the final blow to the problems I started having with that iron. I was actually happy about this because I was eager to finally get a Rowenta of my own.

The reason I chose this iron is because of the look and size. I'm a 6'5" male with pretty big hands so I like the fact that the handle has a nice sturdy feel to it and the steam and squirt buttons are big. The weight of the iron is good; makes you feel like you have something sturdy in your hands, something that will last you a while if taken care of.

Performance is astounding. The iron glides across your clothes and the bursts of steam are even on every pass. As soon as I got home I followed the first use instructions and went to work on a basket of dress shirts and slacks I had just washed. What I noticed immediately is that my ironing time was cut in half. With my old iron it would take more then a few minutes to get warmed up and when finally warm I would have to make several passes to get that nice ironed shirt look I enjoy. With the Rowenta, it takes about a minute or two to warm up then the magic that can only be found using a Rowenta happens. This iron ate through a whole basket of dress clothes in less then half the time it would have taken with my old iron. With my old iron ironing a full basket of clothes was more like a project that I had to set aside time for but now that I have this Rowenta in my stable ironing that same basket of clothes has been reduced back down to a simple chore that only takes a few minutes to complete.

Take it from someone who irons on a regular basis...you can't miss with this purchase. Save yourself a whole lot of time and frustration. When it comes to buying an iron, don't buy cheap, buy Rowenta.

EDIT: Been almost a year now and this baby is still going strong. If you haven't bought one already and you're looking for a great iron trust me, it's worth the extra coin.

I have my shirts done and use my iron every morning to touch them up. I also iron khakis, denim, cotton moleskin, and wool flannel trousers, as well as sport jackets and suits. I mention this because I have years of experience ironing and I need a high quality iron that puts out lots of steam.

My previous iron was a Rowenta DE-871 "Professional." The old DE-871, (no longer available) lasted over ten years, put out lots of steam, and never leaked or spit water out of the steam vents. I purchased my first Focus model DW-5080 slightly over a year ago and it worked very well for about one year until it quit altogether. (would not power up when plugged in) After several calls, including to Rowenta North America, I determined that it was the plug itself that was likely broken or defective. I contacted the Rowenta service center in Seattle, WA. to learn that a new plug costs $39.95 plus $20.00 to install the part. (plus shipping of about $20.00 for a total of($79.95) I informed the individual at the Rowenta service center that I am fairly handy with electronics and asked if, in his opinion, he thought I could install the part myself,....He replied with one word, no.

So I went back to Bed, Bath & Beyond and told the story to the Manager who could not have been more understanding. He gave me a brand new Rowenta Focus model DW-5080. To my surprise Rowenta has changed the design of this iron enough so that it should no longer carry the designation "Focus," or the model designation DW-5080.

The new Focus DW-5080 spit out large quantities of water from the steam vents every time I used it. Wanting to give it some break in time I varied the amount of water I put in the tank, tried to use a lower or higher heat setting, and it continued to spit large amounts of water from the steam vents. I called Rowneta North America and from my conversation with them I have no doubt that Rowenta is well aware of this issue as well as leaking water tanks and faulty electronics that cause their irons to shut off intermittently. (Overall poor quality control with their products.)

After two weeks I took this model back and spent extra to try the next model up, a DW-8080 "Pro Master." Looking over the reviews I can see that others have experienced the same issue(s) I've experienced with my Focus, (DW-5080) as well as with the Pro master,(DW-8080) (most of their product line of irons)

Bottom line: DO NOT purchase a Rowenta iron unless it's from a retailer like Bed, Bath & Beyond who will allow you to return the product back to the store you purchased it from. If I had purchased this product over the internet I would not have had the resolve to spend the time and money to try to return Rowneta's defective products.

Rowenta spent years establishing a reputation for quality, if expensive, products. The newer Rowenta products are simply hit or miss in terms of quality. BEWARE!

This is my third Rowenta Iron and I love it. It has plenty of well dispersed steam holes and I really like the shape of the sole plate headgreat for around button holes and small areas. Produces plenty of steam even for terribly wrinkled linen. Use bottled spring water and you won't have any problem with the iron spitting. It's not a light iron, but a good iron must have some weight to it. I do wish the Rowentas had an on/off switch but I'm guessing this is a safety issue. Once you go Rowenta, you won't go back. I've passed my older Rowentas to my college age children and they're still working. The cleaning kit is also a good purchasethe cream cleaner works well.

I have had this model since June 7th. It was incredible for two weeks. Then it started shutting off while I was using it. I could not iron one of my dress shirts completely without it shutting off. I began to unplug it, wait and then plug it back in and let it heat up and start over. This got old really quick. I am currently dealing with customer service. I was really very excited about this purchase and I am very disappointed in the performance. I should note that I did see a few negative reviews but I thought that those people were just being really picky or hard to please. I am not sure if I will try another Rowenta or not. We will see how customer service handles this problem. I hope there is an easy solution. PS. I do not think I am using to high of a setting for the fabric type.
