I like it except for a few key issues, the touch screen is a nice feature and nice looking.

a few issues...

1. Once connected to Z-wave it will not run off the built in schedule on the unit, you must schedule from z-wave.

2. Unit does not report set-point temp to z-wave, ie: if someone changes the temp at the thermostat, the change will not be reflected in Z-wave, it will only know the last setting that was initiated through Z-wave. This seems to be a known, designed by choice, issue.

3. After about a week of seemingly working fine, it began to lose contact with the Z-wave network, and commands would not be sent to it. I changed the batteries, removed it and re-added it a few times before it would work normally again, at that point it was not recognized as the same node, so all my scenes in Vera did not refer to it anymore so I had to redo all the scenes.

4. From reading the forums it seems reliability can be spotty due to running off batteries rather than 24V power, of course, the fact that this unit can run on batteries is one of its main selling points in the first place. What I will say about running power to this thing, or the "C" wire or "Common" as it's referred to is that the C wire is no more than a ground back at the source of the thermostat wire. This is rarely mentioned in the all the posting about C wires and transformers, etc. but from what I have learned, that is essentially all it is. I do not have a C wire but I do have a common back at the Taco SR502 that my boiler and hot water tank are hooked to so all I have to do is pull a 3rd wire to my T-stat and connect to the terminal labeled "COM" in the SR502 and it should work, but if it didn't have that I should be able to just run a wire to the metal cabinet of the boiler, furnace, or wherever the T-stat wire originates from.

5. I would prefer there to be a plate that mounts to the wall where you wire to and then the unit snaps into the plate. The LuxPro this replaced was like that, and is also "armchair programable" as they say. Also, the battery and wiring access covers are tricky to remove and there is no instruction on how to do so.

6. Not knowing that the built in schedule would be useless, I went ahead and programmed the whole thing, this was a tedious process which did not seem to function exactly as the manual says, especially the "Copy" function which did not seem to work at all.

I am testing a variety of z-wave devices in my home prior to deciding which to be used at our new office building. I have now evaluated the Trane Remote Energy Management Thermostat (by Schlage), Honeywell TH8320ZW1007/U Z-Wave Enabled Programmable Thermostat, and this 2Gig Z-STAT Z-Wave Programmable Thermostat. In my home, there is a 24 V common (blue) wire but it was not connected. Fortunately, I was easily able to connect that wire. The Trane and Honeywell require a 24V common wire as a previous reviewer noted, while the 2Gig uses 3 AA batteries. I also was worried that the backlight would not look so good on the 2Gig, but it actually looks better than the others IMO.

The Trane and 2Gig both work fine with my Vera 2 controller, but I had trouble with the Honeywell, as it turns on the air and heat at same time. I think the 24V common needs to connect to the air conditioner/compressor instead of the furnace, which might be a problem for me.

Bottom line, Trane and 2Gig work fine with my Vera 2 system. I like the looks of 2Gig better, it is cheaper, and does not require a 24V common. The new office will get 2Gig thermostats.

Bought this to integrate with my ADT Pulse system. Set it up as a GE Thermostat and it worked just like a charm. I have an older heating system, so there is no power to the thermostat. The battery powered version was perfect. This guy works just fine-minus a bit of lag, but I suppose that's to be expected. Wouldn't be surprised if it's actually my network slowing down communication. FYI-the lag is probably 3-5 seconds from when I input a change from the ADT iPhone app. Perhaps that's just relative...

I bought this tstat a few days before Christmas , and installed it over the holidays. At first I had some difficulty working the set up and I was leary of the reviews that showed this device to be a battery hog. To install this unit without the C wire was no problem, it comes with decals that you can mark the wires with when its apart. I got this installed and proceded to program it as outlined in the directions that it came with. After not much luck and almost ready to give up, I realized that there was a smaller insert of instructions that came with the Z wave radio module on this t stat. After carefully reading this I realized that this t stat is very versatile. It can be used as a stand alone programmable t stat that works off the internal clock on it, it can also be fitted for 2 types of radios, the Z wave and the wifi radio.

After reading the extra insert instructions, I then realized that the t stat needed to be placed in wireless mode which hides the clock and some other displays on the face of unit. This was done by holding down the program button for 12 seconds, and then linking the z wave controller to the t stat. Once that was done I went to z wave controller, did a network heal, and proceeded to program in scenes. I am happy to report that all works as intended now and that a month into usage the batteries are still holding at 90%. The t stat can be operated in total darkness if needed, just lightly touch the screen and it lights up really bright and stays on for about 3 to 4 seconds after. I also tested the notifications feature and it works flawlessly. This unit is highly recommended and it looks like there have been some improvements over the first models prior to this one.

This was super easy to install. It quickly synced to my Vera2 and was instantly controllable. It has a big screen that is easy to read and control.

For me, I needed ones that run on batteries as I do not have a 24V Common wire coming from my boiler to power it. This was it. I have three installed, two on radiant heat floors and one on forced hot air from a heat exchanger (from the boiler).

Will save me LOADS of $$ on propane.

I can not say enough good things about this wonderful blanket. You preheat the bed (don't need long at all) and when you get in, it's like slipping into warm cocoa. The heat is evenly distributed, the blanket itself is beautiful and I honestly don't think it is too heavy at all... We have another blanket on the bed that's definitely heavier. I love it so much that I have the exact same blanket in throw size to keep in my home office. I don't see how anyone could be sorry they bought this blanket. I love it!!!!

The fabric is very soft and plush. Overall the blanket is a good weight--not too heavy, not too light.

I like this blanket for the timer. The blanket turns off automatically after 10 or so hours. This I really appreciate as (with my old blanket) I frequently forgot; given that I travel frequently, sometimes my blanket was on for 4 or 5 days at a time. The pre-heater---I don't understand exactly why an electric blanket needs a preheater...but it has it!

The control dial has a minimal glow to it..enough so I can see it easily at night, but not so bright where the light disturbs my sleep.

I would have preferred a different color, but for the sale price.... I prefer quality and practicality over color coordination.

I absolutely love this blanket (right now), because in the fall when there's a chilly night, you don't even have to turn it on, and its still warm. It takes about 20 minutes to heat up, and once it does its hot, wake up and your sweaty hot. The blanket turns off after 10 hours, but who ever sleeps for 10 hours? psh. The downfall of this blanket is that its very thin, and you can feel all the ribbing, no biggie though. I haven't tried to wash this blanket yet, and I've only had it for a 11 days, used it 4 times, so who knows if it will be good after a year of use.

This product worked great at first, but over time, this particular product line of Soleus Air Micathermic heaters will lose their ability to heat over time. Advertised at 1000 Watts, now, after 1 year, is 478 Watts, and loses wattage each day it's used. This means it's outputting less and less heat.

I submitted a claim to Soleus Air and they have not resolved the problem they only gave some explanation thinking they were right, but I sent them more details of the problem and they have not responded for over 1 month. Looking up my case number on their site, they consider this case resolved. It is not.

This is product is faulty and you won't get any reimbursements, so be careful, and buy a different brand, or a different heating technology like ceramic.

I will not ever buy a Soleus Air product again I do not want to support their company in producing poor quality products with poor customer support.

We purchased this exact same heater locally and we've been using it for about 45 days now. I was discouraged to see someone rated it so low because we are very happy with the heater we purchased. It has preformed beautifully in the time that we've had it.

I will say this though, this is the sixth portable electric heater we've purchased and only a couple of the models have lasted longer than a year. We had a Delong that simply stopped working and I haven't been able to figure out why.

If this one lasts the entire year, without trouble, I'll be happy. :)

Cheap INSTEON 2441ZTH Wireless Thermostat

This works together with the insteon wired thermostat that you attach to the hvac wires on your wall. my usage case is to put the wireless thermostat upstairs so it will turn the heater/ac on or off based on the temperature in the baby room.

to do this, you are supposed to set the wireless thermostat to MASTER mode so that is is in charge. for the most part, this works as advertised. however, every few days or so, the MASTER mode will disappear from the wireless thermostat and go back to the wired thermostat.

this is very problematic because you get cases where the heater will keep running for so long the baby room is sweltering, but it didn't stop because on it's on it reverted MASTER status back to the wired unit downstairs, which is a lot cooler and hasn't reached the right temperature yet.

I called/emailed tech support regarding this issue but the only suggestion they had was to buy yet another insteon product, an access point, to boost the range. I tried it but it didn't work. now I am waiting to see what else they can suggest.

based on this, I would not recommend the product, since it does not seem very stable and there is no good fix for it.

UPDATE:

I contacted INSTEON and they replaced both my wired and wireless units with new ones, and now the problem is fixed. I get constant connection between the two units and MASTER works correctly. upgrading rating from 1 star to 4.

My experience is similar to the other reviews. I was trying to use this 2441ZTH with my ISY994i controller. The unit would drop out of master mode and fail to report temperature readings. The unit would also lock up and fail to communicate on the Insteon network requiring a reboot. (Over and over...) My unit would also start to flicker erratic display readings on the LCD panel. The Backlight would sometimes flash on and off by its self. When I try to enter the programming mode the displays would become erratic and the unit would sometimes lock up. Seems like very flakey firmware at this point.

I also own the 2441TH and it seems to be working OK right now. Only the wireless ZTH seems to be having all of these erratic behaviors. I think this unit has potential if Insteon can fix the hardware/firmware issues this unit has potential. until then... It is completely unusable.

I bought this to use upstairs while the wired thermostat was installed next to the furnace in the buildup two stories below. I placed a dual-band switchlinc on the floor above the wired thermostat, almost immediately above it. The floor with the wireless thermostat has 2 dual-band switchlincs, one within about 8 feet, and a dual-band PLM.

In that configuration, the wireless thermostat will not stay set as Master for more than about 8 hours, and usually less. I tried it on three different power supplies and on batteries and it has the same problem, although oddly it stays set as Master longest on batteries.

I tried the wireless in at least 5 different locations and it always lost Master mode randomly at some point. Even with both the wired and wireless thermostats 1 foot apart upstairs with the 3 dual-band devices around them the wireless lost Master mode. Loss of Master is highly random and may take an hour or take 16 or more hours.

The wireless also has various glitches with all 3 power supplies I tried it with. Like the light gets brighter and flickers when it transmits, the battery indicator flashes, or the display only lights for 6 seconds instead of 10. It seems most stable on batteries.

I ended up running a thermostat wire to where I needed the wired thermostat and returned the wireless.

I was still debating if I should keep the wireless to use in another room, so I left it in Master mode for one more night and in the morning found the wireless still thought it was Master and in Off mode but the wired also thought it was Master and in Heat mode. Usually the wireless at least shows that it's lost Master mode, but not in this case. I saw in the PLM log that the wireless had been sending temperature updates all night so it wasn't failing to send all messages and it hadn't locked up, but I guess it failed on enough messages that the wired thermostat gave up on it? What seemed strangest is that pressing a key to light the backlight on the wireless wasn't enough to get it back in sync with the wired. I had to try to change its settings and then suddenly it realized it was no longer Master and should be in Heat mode. I think the firmware is not properly programmed to periodically check that it's in sync with the wired and if any messages are lost/corrupted then everything gets screwed up. Yet it can recover if you try to change a setting, so why doesn't it periodically recover on its own? In my opinion, the firmware on this thermostat (and/or on the wired thermostat) is simply not ready for use in the real world where not every wireless message is reliably sent/received.

I read about a lot of problems with these thermostats before I bought them but had hoped they were fixed by now. I read about one guy who had 5 of the v1.0 wireless thermostat all failing to stay in Master mode. Both the wired and wireless thermostats I tested were made in late 2012 and the wired was v1.6 while wireless was v1.3.

The other inexplicable thing is that the PLM log shows the wireless thermostat periodically sends a series of corrupted messages. This only seems to happen when I place it in certain locations with no real logic to it. I theorize that it sends corrupted messages in most locations but only sometimes does it send messages where the corruption happens to match the CRC byte such that I actually see the message in the log. Oddly, the one corruption I saw was always the exact same corrupted message with one byte changed from 02 to a2. I saw that corrupt message dozens of times but with different values for the temperature that went with it. It seems impossible that the CRC byte would be corrupted to a value that matched both the 02 to a2 corruption and the changing temperature value that was included with each message so I think it's actually more likely that the wireless was sending the wrong message rather than the message getting corrupted in transit. For example, here are some corrupt messages:

The last few bytes on each are totally different, yet the CRC byte (not included in the log) must have matched or the messages would have been discarded. The corrupted byte is that it should show 025002 instead of 0250a2 because the insteon ID of the wireless begins with 02, not a2.

So maybe I just have a highly defective wireless thermostat and a good one might not have all the problems with staying in Master mode, sending the wrong byte, glitching on most power supplies, etc, but I'm dubious.

As a final test, I've currently got the wired and wireless set a foot apart and the wireless reads 77 degrees while the wired reads 69 after not being touched for about 20 minutes. An analog thermometer across the room reads 70, so the wireless is wildly inaccurate. Yet I've had them both read about the same value when placed beside each other in the past with the wireless on batteries. I wouldn't be surprised if the particular power supply used with the wireless skews the temperature. I've read a lot of reports of different problems caused that vary with the voltage of the power supply. One guy only got stability at 5.5 volts but not much above or below. Unfortunately 5.5v is not a standard power supply voltage so he had to rig his own. Smarthome also claims that a "noisy" power supply will cause problems but I had no better luck when I connected the 5V terminals of a big PC power supply that should have very clean power to the thermostat. I don't have the equipment to measure power supply noise so that's the best I could do. People have also reported problems using the 6V power supply Smarthome sells specifically for the thermostat. Smarthome should definitely add a capacitor or otherwise make the thermostat less prone to problems caused by noise or different voltages. After a couple of hours, the wireless lost Master mode again and shows 76 degrees while the wired shows 72. Wired shows 50% humidity, wireless shows 40%.

Just purchased this (Lowe's $38) and used it last night. I've used various (all ceramic) models over the years and was very pleased with this one planned to return to Lowe's for a second unit and was checking prices on Amazon. Will now be exchanging it for the tower version of this model (didn't realize it featured a multi-function remote) which received great reviews here. The oscillator works well (90 degrees side to side).

NOTE: despite the claim here of an internal tip-over switch (not stated on the carton) this unit will not shut off until the overheat sensor activates. I did not wait for that to occur as I tipped the running unit over backwards, forwards and each side the only difference was reduced air output on its back (since the carpet was blocking the fan's air input) and higher temp setting when tipped forward (as the temp+ button contacted the carpet).

Bottom Line: had I not found a more desirable alternative, or preferred a shorter unit, I would have purchased a second identical unit and been quite satisfied (although careful to reduce tip-over risk).

Bought this from Lowe's. All functions worked well. The timer was odd in that you set how many hours ahead you want to turn it on, but that was not hard to grasp. I had two issues with this unit: You have to turn the timer on every night in order for it to come on in the morning before you get up. You can't set a timer and have it run on its own like a light timer. We were using this for a sunroom so it would be warm when I got up to let the dog out every morning. The problem we had was that we either got a flaky unit, or the whole design was bad, because if we wanted the unit to work properly we had to turn it on and then off before setting the timer. If we didn't do that, the unit would turn on, but the room would still be cold. The nights we remembered to turn it on and off before setting the timer I would wake up to the room being warm and the heat maintained. Since I wanted a low maintenance heater this one was getting to be too much remembering for me and I took it back.

I bought it for my office because i like a little warmer and office is always set at 71-72F. The heater looks good and has decent features. The best part that i like is that it has remote.

Now the worst part which rules out all good things...the heater is just too noisy. In my office i feel like am sitting in an airplane. The heater has no high/low setting for fan and the fan just keeps spinning at a very high speed. How difficult was it to put that feature? It has a high low setting for heat which is only to switch the power output but not to control the fan. I just needed to warm the room a little but cant stand the noise. Also, it doesnt turn off when set at 73 even when my wall thermostat shows 73.4 degrees. I would recommend a Lasko heater because they all have high/low settings and are much quieter.

I researched carefully before buying another iron. E-How provided insights, and I read reviews of the best irons. A good steam iron should have at least 300 steam holes, my sources told me, and 1700 watts of power. This Rowenta has 400 steam holes, a smooth gliding sole plate with specially designed tip to get around buttons. This is an update of the Focus DZ 5080, but probably pretty much the same. It seems that irons have gotten more expensive over the years, but cheaper in manufacturing and quality. I was so tired of my Black & Decker spitting brownish liquid onto my clothes, dripping, cooling instead of steaming. I actually like ironing, but need a tool that works. The Rowenta Dw5080 is great -what a real steam iron should be. The first time I filled it it really gave off steam, has a nice feel, good weight, and glides easily. Heavy cotton fabric, which used to take several passes, now takes one and looks perfectly smooth. All of the functions are easy to see and use and it has a large water tank. It does use up water, but so did my old B&D. The difference is, this one really gives off steam. One note on filling it: if you get little white flakes, your water is too hard, so add 50/50 with spring water (not distilled), and be faithful about using the self-clean feature once a month. So far, I just love this iron and look forward to ironing with new delight.

I hope it lasts a long time. I am tired of buying poor quality products that end up in landfills.

I work at a huge corporate facility and have to use an iron often, sometimes daily. Having freshly pressed clothes is something I take pride in and ironing is so much cheaper then taking your clothes to the dry cleaner (plus the chemicals they use....blech). Back when I was living with roommates one of them had a nice Rowenta iron. That iron was such a work horse it put my old B&D iron to shame. I was sad when we all parted ways and got places of our own because I had to give up use of such a great iron. So here we are a year and change later and boom my old B&D iron I started using again began to leak which was the final blow to the problems I started having with that iron. I was actually happy about this because I was eager to finally get a Rowenta of my own.

The reason I chose this iron is because of the look and size. I'm a 6'5" male with pretty big hands so I like the fact that the handle has a nice sturdy feel to it and the steam and squirt buttons are big. The weight of the iron is good; makes you feel like you have something sturdy in your hands, something that will last you a while if taken care of.

Performance is astounding. The iron glides across your clothes and the bursts of steam are even on every pass. As soon as I got home I followed the first use instructions and went to work on a basket of dress shirts and slacks I had just washed. What I noticed immediately is that my ironing time was cut in half. With my old iron it would take more then a few minutes to get warmed up and when finally warm I would have to make several passes to get that nice ironed shirt look I enjoy. With the Rowenta, it takes about a minute or two to warm up then the magic that can only be found using a Rowenta happens. This iron ate through a whole basket of dress clothes in less then half the time it would have taken with my old iron. With my old iron ironing a full basket of clothes was more like a project that I had to set aside time for but now that I have this Rowenta in my stable ironing that same basket of clothes has been reduced back down to a simple chore that only takes a few minutes to complete.

Take it from someone who irons on a regular basis...you can't miss with this purchase. Save yourself a whole lot of time and frustration. When it comes to buying an iron, don't buy cheap, buy Rowenta.

EDIT: Been almost a year now and this baby is still going strong. If you haven't bought one already and you're looking for a great iron trust me, it's worth the extra coin.

I have my shirts done and use my iron every morning to touch them up. I also iron khakis, denim, cotton moleskin, and wool flannel trousers, as well as sport jackets and suits. I mention this because I have years of experience ironing and I need a high quality iron that puts out lots of steam.

My previous iron was a Rowenta DE-871 "Professional." The old DE-871, (no longer available) lasted over ten years, put out lots of steam, and never leaked or spit water out of the steam vents. I purchased my first Focus model DW-5080 slightly over a year ago and it worked very well for about one year until it quit altogether. (would not power up when plugged in) After several calls, including to Rowenta North America, I determined that it was the plug itself that was likely broken or defective. I contacted the Rowenta service center in Seattle, WA. to learn that a new plug costs $39.95 plus $20.00 to install the part. (plus shipping of about $20.00 for a total of($79.95) I informed the individual at the Rowenta service center that I am fairly handy with electronics and asked if, in his opinion, he thought I could install the part myself,....He replied with one word, no.

So I went back to Bed, Bath & Beyond and told the story to the Manager who could not have been more understanding. He gave me a brand new Rowenta Focus model DW-5080. To my surprise Rowenta has changed the design of this iron enough so that it should no longer carry the designation "Focus," or the model designation DW-5080.

The new Focus DW-5080 spit out large quantities of water from the steam vents every time I used it. Wanting to give it some break in time I varied the amount of water I put in the tank, tried to use a lower or higher heat setting, and it continued to spit large amounts of water from the steam vents. I called Rowneta North America and from my conversation with them I have no doubt that Rowenta is well aware of this issue as well as leaking water tanks and faulty electronics that cause their irons to shut off intermittently. (Overall poor quality control with their products.)

After two weeks I took this model back and spent extra to try the next model up, a DW-8080 "Pro Master." Looking over the reviews I can see that others have experienced the same issue(s) I've experienced with my Focus, (DW-5080) as well as with the Pro master,(DW-8080) (most of their product line of irons)

Bottom line: DO NOT purchase a Rowenta iron unless it's from a retailer like Bed, Bath & Beyond who will allow you to return the product back to the store you purchased it from. If I had purchased this product over the internet I would not have had the resolve to spend the time and money to try to return Rowneta's defective products.

Rowenta spent years establishing a reputation for quality, if expensive, products. The newer Rowenta products are simply hit or miss in terms of quality. BEWARE!

This is my third Rowenta Iron and I love it. It has plenty of well dispersed steam holes and I really like the shape of the sole plate headgreat for around button holes and small areas. Produces plenty of steam even for terribly wrinkled linen. Use bottled spring water and you won't have any problem with the iron spitting. It's not a light iron, but a good iron must have some weight to it. I do wish the Rowentas had an on/off switch but I'm guessing this is a safety issue. Once you go Rowenta, you won't go back. I've passed my older Rowentas to my college age children and they're still working. The cleaning kit is also a good purchasethe cream cleaner works well.

I have had this model since June 7th. It was incredible for two weeks. Then it started shutting off while I was using it. I could not iron one of my dress shirts completely without it shutting off. I began to unplug it, wait and then plug it back in and let it heat up and start over. This got old really quick. I am currently dealing with customer service. I was really very excited about this purchase and I am very disappointed in the performance. I should note that I did see a few negative reviews but I thought that those people were just being really picky or hard to please. I am not sure if I will try another Rowenta or not. We will see how customer service handles this problem. I hope there is an easy solution. PS. I do not think I am using to high of a setting for the fabric type.

I purchased this wood stove about 3 years ago. I have owned other stoves in the past and was very pleased with each one...until I bought this one.

I live in New England and here we need to depend on a good reliable source of heat.I had not seen this stove prior to purchasing it...mistake #1. None were on display anywhere in my area. I went on the recommendation of a friend who had one, but knew nothing about wood stoves....mistake #2.First off, the stove is very hard to regulate. It either is set low and smokes all over or all the way open and will blast you out of the house. It probably would work better in a large home for that reason.

It is a poorly built cheap quality most likely a Chinese made stove(as quoted on another website). The first year I had to replace the door gasket 3 times until I emailed the company and they sent one that has worked fine since. The door is out of alignment and doesn't fit flush. The hinges have a lot of slop in them. Year 2, the handle broke off, very poor design and materials.I emailed and complained about it and they did send a new one free. Year 3, Some of the fire brick are now breaking and the grate has broken.There is a big hole in the middle. A new one on their website costs $ + shipping. They are also to last for years according to their website.

This is not an air tight wood stove like I thought. There are gaps in the doors and The fire box is thin metal. Overall it does technically work, but for the money it is very, very poor. Please do yourself a favor and look to a different company.

I purchased this stove over 2 years ago to to replace an old oil burning stove. I could not be happier. Our family home is about 1200sqft, and this is our only heat source. I have even used the top surface for cooking meals during power outages a few times. It is very well made with cast iron doors, and heavy gauge steel box. Please read instructions on proper heating to prevent smoking if you are not familiar with wood stoves. Works greats, keeps us warms, and very efficient wood burner!
