The design of this product caught my attention, plus it would work with my existing wall and baseboard heaters. Its shortcomings are that it only has two programmable temperature zones and, particularly deficient, is the much too broad range of temperature control. For instance, if you set it at 70F, the actual temperature could range from 67F to 73F -too broad a range for my comfort and expectation.

When I was looking for a Hot Dog roller for use at our fire station I came across many listed on the internet. I wanted a good model and was not looking for the cheapest price. I heard Benchmark was one of the brand names, so I looked into their hot dog roller. Out of all I looked at, it was the only one with a three year warranty. I bought this heater to warm a small one bedroom (barely insulated) home and it did well when the temperatures outside ranged from 40-55 degrees but when it got into the teens and 20s outside, this thing could not compete. Typically I find that it raises the inside temperature about 17-21 degrees above the outside temp. When it was in the teens and twenties, I was only seeing about a 15 degree increase, on high all of the time.

I am pretty accepting of the fact that there was typically a consistent 20 degree increase in temperature, but now that mine has stopped working completely, I'm not such a big fan of this giant thing just taking up space in my room. I'm almost 100% sure that the problem is a faulty dial/knob. When I first started having issues with this knob was when for some weird reason it wouldn't turn on high anymore... only med and low. Then it stopped turning on when I turned it to med, only working on low. Then the orange "on" light started blinking when I would turn it on any setting, but not actually stay on. So now no light turns on and neither does its heating functions.

I got this thing less than 60 days ago by the way......

I've used the same one by duraflame and it also was not such a great experience either. Every 15-20 min, it made some weird creaking noise that got very old, very fast.

After much research and review of various heaters I came to the conclusion that this one would work great and it did. We have an old Lakewood 7101 that still works great but wanted another oil-filled radiant heater for another room. We purchased a Pelonis 1,500 watt oil-filled radiant heater and could not be happier. It works great and we especially like the thermostat that works and keeps the rooms the right temperature. There is no oil smell at all with this unit. Having it on wheels makes it easy to move around on hard wood floors. BTW, you do not need to keep the unit next to a wall as it works just fine 2-3 feet away from the wall. I don't know how long it will last but am very satisfied with the unit thus far.

My delonghi floor heater quit working after about 10 years so I went to home depot to buy another affordable one. I ended up picking the pelonis because it was on sale. The first thing I noticed was the pungent odor it gave off so I didn't really want it in my bedroom where the air would be enclosed so I used it as the kitchen heater. Then, after a few weeks the plug melted so I replaced that. After a couple months the smell went away but then I started noticing burn marks on the outer surface of the metal from it running at a high temperature day in and day out. The metal began to warp so that I couldn't roll it properly either. Finally, after owning it for a total of 4 months it burnt out. I really wish I would have saved my money for something else.

We got rid of our old oil furnace, which no longer worked. We put one of the Pelonis in each room. We were disappointed at first. Then I realized it had nothing to do with how hot it got, but the circulation of the heat. So I put a small fan behind each one and set them to a very low blow setting. This gently circulated the heat around the room. We are very happy with this system of heating.

Based on the other reviews, it sounds as though the EQ2 works for some people and doesn't for others depending on their individual room and HVAC configurations. I have an upstairs room with a vaulted ceiling that is 10 degrees Fahrenheit hotter or colder than the rest of the house. The room is more than 200 sq. ft., has only one vent, and is the farthest from the blower. I've had my EQ2 now for 3 years and it is still working fine. The EQ2 brings the temperature difference down to about 4 degrees, which is livable. I tried out the AirFlow Breeze that has 2 DC fans in it but it didn't work as well as the EQ2.

Like everyone else I have a room that doesn't get the benefit of enough heat. Is is fed by a side duct off the main furnace duct really a bad design because the heat on its way up three flights races past this duct and even a scoop doesn't cure the 5 degree deficit. I put this fan over one of the two outlets for this side duct, AND BLOCKED THE OTHER to prevent the fan from just pulling air from the other vent. It now has to pull from the furnace and the 5 degree difference disappeared. It is also on a thermostatic control.

Yep, I gotta agree with the other reviewers that this is a waste of money. Great concept, poorly executed. It does turn on and off automatically, but that's it's only good point.

I have an upstairs bedroom that gets about 5-6 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. Warmer even than the adjacent bedroom. Put one of these over the vent, checked the temperature all day, and there was no difference. I think most computer fans are probably quieter and blow more air. All this seems to do is churn the air around a bit.

While I'm not a mechanical engineer, I think this product could have been designed better, without adding cost, and actually might have worked.

Save your money. If you have a vent that's not vlowing much air, try removing the grill. The grill restricts the airflow and removing it might be enough to help.

Works as advertised. My family recently moved into a 2-story colonial, and the airflow coming out of the vents in the master bedroom is a little weak, making it warmer than the rest of the bedrooms on the top floor. I could turn down the thermostat, but that would freeze out the rest of the house. The Suncourt (HC500) and Airflow Breeze boosted registers caught my eye, but I wanted a quick solution (i.e. no order-and-wait) and the local Home Depot had the HC300 in stock.

What can I say, but "it works". Without the HC300, the airflow (floor vents shooting upward) reached a height of 3 ft (based on holding my hand above the vent), and with the booster, it reached a perceptible height of 5 feet. With a single booster over 1 of our 2 vents, the master bedroom was noticeably cooler. In fact it worked so well that I ordered two in-vent boosters (HC500) so that I have one for each duct. The weather has cooled down, so I'm unable to compared those to the HC300, except that they are quieter.

As far as noise goes, the HC300 is not silent, but it is far quieter than a Marpac white noise machine set to the lowest setting (we use that in our baby's room). Actually, for use in a bedroom, I find the low level of white noise kinda soothing. As an added bonus, the fan in the booster doesn't turn off until the air temperature from the ductwork reaches a preset temperature. That means that after the AC (or heat) has turned off, the booster is still scavenging the remaining cool (or warm during the winter) air from the ductwork.

This is a great solution if your airflow to a room is weak, but I can imagine some circumstances (strong airflow, but warm air) where boosting the airflow won't help or you'll have a ceiling effect. Yes, you ideally would want to call in a professional to rebalance the ductwork, but in many instances it would be cost prohibitive (i.e. ripping up flooring to get to the ductwork).

I give it a 4 out of 5, with 1 point deducted for the (albeit low) noise level.

The manual was very thorough, and the setup was a breeze. It has a ton of advertised features, I found the following VERY useful:

1. The battery replacement cover is on the front (you do not have to take out the whole unit or take screw out to replace batteries

2. The 1 touch backlight is very convenient to look things up at night

3. The ability to program the device off the wall while sitting down comfortably with the manual and pieces of paper is convenient

'Tis the part of the year when temperatures here range between freezing and 85 degrees, sometimes during the same day. It was a continuous hassle, turning on the heat or turning on the A/C, trying to keep the kids from having pneumonia or the chinchillas passing away from the heat.

My son and I installed this thermostat in about 20 minutes. The directions are very comprehensive, and when it says read through them *before* installation, they are correct RTFM!

As for the thermostat, it has performed well. We set a range for it to stay within, and it does that without any problem. Switches between A/C and heat as needed without our intervention. A great feature is the Home button, which allows you to move to the warmest (heat) or coolest (A/C) setting on days when you are home (or are just too darned cold). Otherwise, set it and forget it no need for seasonal (or daily) adjustments.

We wanted to cut back on costs as well as use less energy, so we researched programmable thermostats and chose this one based on the good reviews. After installing the thermostat and using it for a few days, I can say that we are VERY pleased and that it lives up to the good reviews. It came with everything needed to install as well as very detailed instructions on installation and on using the many customization features. It's tedious to set all of your daily options I mean, you have the option of setting four different programs a day! but after it's set, it's very easy to just let it go and you only need to hit one or two buttons to override without changing your saved settings. I purchased the model 44459 4 years ago, which essentially is the same unit. My basis for the selection was the indiglo feature. This is one that most of the other similar priced units did not have.

To my suprise, I found the energy and filter monitoring features to be most usefull. The energy monitor allowed me to track my usage in both summer and winter, and to see how much the other upgrades to the house made a difference in energy savings. The front access to the battery is also usefull, although I changed the battery this year for the first time in 4 years.

Well, this morning, I found that my heat would not turn off, and the thermostat was stuck in the on position. I performed all normal troubleshooting procedures to no avail. I spoke directly with a Hunter Tech Support agent, who agreed with me, the unit went bad. She put me on hold for about 10 minutes, and when she returned, she informed me that my unit was no longer under warranty (which I knew, just wanted to get repaired). To my supprise, she offered a one-time courtesy replacement of the unit, NO CHARGE! All they ask is that I pay for return postage of the bad unit. She even offered to expedite the order, so that I would not be without heat for very long!

Now, I am not saying that they will extend this to everybody, but I was highly impressed with the way they stand behind their product. When I looked at the specs between my unit, and this one, which they are sending to me, they are exact! Even the owner's manual is the same!

I have been very pleased with the unit, and have grown to love the features. Home Today, Hold, and ease of programming features a plus. It even has a keypad lock function to keep the kids from messing with the temp settings.

Great value and features for the price. Highly reccomended!!!

I purchased this product following a recommendation from Consumer Reports and extensively reading consumer comments on Amazon. We are VERY pleased with the thermostat! My husband was a little bit anxious on whether he could replace the unit himself (decided to do it on a weekday so that back-up could be called if needed). He was surprised how easy it was to replace the unit.

We especially like the automatic change-over between heat and A/C. Since it's not uncommon in the fall to go from very chilly nights to very warm days, we were constantly shifting the thermostat back and forth. With this unit, you no longer have to do that. You simply set your heat temperature for wake-up, leave the house, return home, go to bed, and then do the same with your A/C temperature. The unit automatically engages the right unit at the right time -it's amazing!

Also, the unit is very easy to program and does NOT make any noises when it turns on and off. This is an excellent choice -you won't be disappointed!

UPDATE:

10/9/2013: Product Update 6 years later and thermostats are still working perfectly. Batteries need replacement about once a year so that the lovely little light works when we adjust the thermostat. Have not had a single issue with them. Still a 5-Star product !!!

I happened upon the "Talking Wirless Grill Thermometor ("TWGT")in Lowes $29). Being a gadget guy I could not pass it up. Got it home, put in the batteries and it worked perfectly. It immediately measured room temp within 1 degree of my digital room thermometer. I Cooked "Beercan Chicken" on the patio grill that weekend. Put the probe into the thigh as directed and placed the base unit on my kitchen counter about 40 feet away. Opened a cold beer and watched the info on the base unit as I prepared other food in the kitchen. No need to periodically go out to the grill and check the chicken. Instead I watched football and the unit as it measured temp up and up. When it was time, it told me "It's almost done." Headed to the patio when the unit told me "It's done". The TWGT worked great. I was so impressed I went and bought a second one to give as a gift.

Then I tried to use it a second time. I had steak marinated and ready for the grill. Football on TV. Turned the TWGT on but the base was not getting a signal from the probe. I changed batteries, hit the reset button on the probe, shook it, cursed it, prayed. Nothing made it work. I even opened the one I had bought to give as a gift it did not work either. Both units and probes were on but not communicating with each other. I gave up and cooked the steak the old way by trying to time it, lifting the grill and testing it. Very dissappointing.

Fortunately for me, I love gadgets and did not give up. Later, I kept experimenting, trying to figure out what was wrong. I went to Amazon.com and read a review saying you have to hit the reset button, but I had already tried that too many times without success. Then I figured it out. When you turn on the units, if they do not talk to each other, you have to press the reset buttons on BOTH THE PROBE AND THE MAIN UNIT. I'd never noticed the main unit also has a reset button. I turned on both units, pressed both reset buttons one after the other and --SUCCESS! Both units and their probes started talking. Again they were within 1 degree of room temp. I cannot wait to grill out this weekend! Maybe on Sat. for the Gators and on Sun. for the Bucs.

Summing it up? Yea. It would be a good idea for OS to put a troubleshooting section in the manual to cover this problem. As it is you need to either figure it out or call OS. I suspect many of these amazingly fun grill gadgets are lying unused in some dissappointed owner's junk drawer. But, if you know the secret (you can probably get the secret if you call OS customer service)this thermometer is fun, and convenient. I won't grill without it. In fact, I will now use both units at the same time for different foods cooked simultaniously (so much for the gift idea). BTW. The unit's voice is female and she speaks multiple languages. My advice set her for French. I don't speak the language but she sure sounds good. :)

I've used this product for almost two years now and really enjoy it. However, I've had problems getting the two parts to sync up, especially after I hadn't used it in a while. There's a really good review in here that walks you through the process of hitting the reset buttons (under the batter cover) on BOTH units, but even this didn't always work. I was ready to go back to a hardwired unit when I found a solution -remove the batteries in both units, wait a few minutes and reinstall. This has worked for me every time. I now store the units with the batteries removed (good idea anyway) and it has worked with no trouble when I reinstall the batteries. Give this a try before you give up. This issue is why I didn't give it 5 stars.

One other thing to be careful about. Keep water away from where the cable enters the probe. Incorrect temp readings can come from water contamination. From other sites, this seems to be a common problem with these wireless thermometers. I clean the probe with a cloth and rinse under the sink, never letting water touch anything but the part of the probe below the loop that enters the meat.

We bought this from a local hardware store. Our previous thermometers were the analog instant read types and they've died. We use this 3 to 4 times a week for cooking fish, hamburgers, steaks, poultry and have been extroardinarily pleased with the results each and every time. Now, if I don't use it, I can tell the difference. The fish flakes apart perfectly, the poultry is absolutely not bloody, and the hamburgers and steaks are cooked to temperature. There is a setting to set your own temperature if you don't like the presets.

Make sure to put the probe into the meatiest part of the meat and not touching any bones. Also, don't put the probe directly over the flame (the manual says these things). I angle it towards the front of the grill so that it is almost under the cover. That way I can close the grill but it is not over direct flame. I've cooked from low BBQ temps to High grill and had no trouble with it. It's made making dinner much less of a hassle.

We've not used it in the oven, though it says you can. We had one issue where the base unit lost track of the remote unit. The temperature reading started flashing and it couldn't reconnect. I turned off the base unit and turned it back on and it reconnected with no further problems.

We like ours so much that we bought another one as a gift.

The disparity in opinion on this unit is interesting. I can understand it based on my own experience. I couldn't get the transmitter to sync with the base unit. I fooled with it for awhile and finally got it working. I saw a lot of information on the internet related to trouble syncing the unit, so I took the batteries out again and then could get it to sync again. I was at the point of throwing up my hands and sending it back with a nasty note, but finally realized the following:

The user's manual is terrible, but here is how I finally got the transmitter/base unit to talk:

1. With no batteries in the transmitter, install the batteries in the base unit.

2. Turn on the base unit.

3. Press LANG to select the language.

4. At this point, the base unit should be working fully. There will be ---displayed as the current temperature on the base unit.

5. Install the batteries in the transmitter.

6. Press the RESET inside the battery cover on the transmitter.

Consistently, the transmitter and base unit synchronized, but it had to be done in this order. The RESET on the base unit or when the temperature probe was plugged into the transmitter did not seem to affect the sync process. The above procedure is consistent with the user's manual, but the manual does not convey how sensitive the process is to the order of the steps.

This is my experience, hopefully it will help others because the manual certainly does not.

raw foodists will go for an Excalibur dehydrator (expensive)...just because all their raw book authors tell them it's the best. A dehydrator is not exactly a high tech machine, so I bought this less expensive brand instead. (Also because I already splurged on a good blender) It had qualities that the Excalibur also has: fan in the back instead of the bottom and a thermostat so you know you're not destroying enzymes. I've used this for 3 months now and it does just about everything I want it to do. If you're making raw crackers, you will need 13.5 x 10.5 nonstick dehydrator sheets. You can use plastic wrap at first but it gets messy. The sheets fit pretty well on the trays except for that rounded indented shape in the front of the tray . This did not bother me since those crackers don't turn out perfectly square anyway, they will sort of shrink when dry.

cons (that I can live with):

-The excalibur has a door that covers all the trays at once, so if you want to dry something bulky (more than a couple inches height), you can just take out a tray to make more vertical space, and close the door. You can't do that with a VegiKiln because each tray is it's own "door". Maybe I can remove a tray and then cover the entire front side with plastic or something, I will need to experiment.

-the bottom of the dehydrator is not that easy to clean, it has all these ridges, which gives the machine stability (I guess) but wiping it down is a pain because all those crevices are hard to get to. I had to bring the entire machine to the sink and shake out all the "crumbs". That was not pleasant, but I don't have to do it all the time.

-the fan is reportedly "quiet" compared to others, even quieter than excalibur. But it does sound like you've got the microwave on continuously for days. Annoying, but I don't see an alternative.

all in all I am very satisfied with this machine. I have no regrets for passing on the excalibur. I bought the six tray and it was plenty. The ten tray is probably for people who want to save large amounts of food for a large family.

I've tried dehydrators before, the cheapies you find in thrift stores, but they never worked. I finally did a little research and learned that the horizontal airflow type is best, and I looked for something inexpensive. Knowing "you get what you pay for," I was a little nervous that the Weston 6-tray dehydrator was so cheap, but I bought one. Wow! I am delighted! It dries sliced tomatoes perfectly. Sliced bananas become little bonbons. I even tried drying potato slices--blah, they're not potato chips, they're crumbly and bitter. But that wasn't the dehydrator's fault. Everything I have put in, it has dried perfectly. I couldn't be happier.

I purchased this dehydrator to use side-by-side with my Nesco. You can view my review for the Nesco for additional info on that one. The main reason I went for having a second one was because I make different flavors and didn't want to make them at the same machine, getting the aromas mixed up. Here's my take:

First and foremost, IF YOU ARE USED TO A DIFFERENT DEHYDRATOR, keep an eye on the timing with this one. This is a very powerful machine, which is a great thing! But if you're used to something that is not as powerful, keep that in mind. The first time I used this dehydrator, I calculated that, if my Nesco took about 3 hours, this one would probably take about 2. When I checked after 2 hours, my beef jerky was crispy like potato chips. It's not bad, but not the end product I was looking for.

PROS:

Very fast drying

Huge drying area, approx. 10 sq ft

Nice looking for a dehydrator, doesn't look bad on the counter, even if it's huge

Set up is nice, don't need to remove the top and the trays can be removed individually because they are not the wall of the dehydrator like the Nesco trays are.

CONS:

Pricy compared to the Nesco I use. Although the Nesco comes with only 4 trays, you can purchase additional ones and the total price for the Nesco, plus two 2-tray sets, comes up to about $70. And after I calculated the drying square footage, I realized that the Nesco with 8 trays has about the same drying area as this one with 10 trays.

For some reason, and this may be user-related and not really an issue with the machine, I can't make the jerky leathery with this dehydrator. It seems to go from raw and soft to crunchy, which is not necessarily a bad thing, and I actually make a flavor that I prefer crunchy, so it's all good. But when it came time to get another one, I went back to the Nesco.

You can't use fewer trays like you can with the Nesco that has a minimum of 4 and can be extended to 8. So, if you're making a small batch, you still need to have all the trays in.

It is really huge, but then again, all dehydrators are...

The back part of the trays gets ready much faster than the front, which makes sense since the fan is on the back. But I wish the trays sealed better on the front so the air would circulate more inside the machine, instead of going out the front. Basically, I feel like it could be better engineered here.

You can pull the trays out and prepare them on the sink, but because they have to to back into the file-cabinet like structure, you get lots of drips on the counter where the machine sits and the front of the lower trays as you slide the new tray in.

Again, this is a very good machine and I would probably love it if I didn't have a different one to compare to. As you will see on my Nesco review, the Nesco has its own issues as well. They are just issues I'd rather work with than the issues I have with this one. And for the flavor of jerky I make that's nice crunchy, I would never use the Nesco dehydrator, this one does a better job.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that each dehydrator from the two I'm comparing here has some advantages and some disadvantages. You should do your research and figure out which one would work better for your particular use. For example, if I were buying this to make fruit chips, I wouldn't think twice before getting the Weston dehydrator. The Nesco wouldn't make the chips as nice and crispy as this one.

This is an nice alternative to the expensive ones out there. However, the plastic trays are not as durable as the expensive ones and would break a bit easier. I ordered non-stick sheets from Amazon also. The top tray doesn't get adequate coverage from the fan, but I've found that to be true in other dehydrators as well. One thing I really love about this product is that it comes in a choice of three sizes: 6, 8, and 10 shelves. And the price is right!

Ordered unit, had it over-nighted (thanks Amazon Prime), was delivered with great packaging and looks like it suffered no ills in shipping.

I opened it up, plugged it in and turned it on for an initial test to see that the unit was working.

The dehydrator turned on, and got hot, but was making a lot of vibration type sounds from the motor, and didn't seem to be moving any air.

I stopped the unit, took out the trays, and looked in at the fan assembly to find that the fan blade was not attached to the motor shaft, instead it was floating around freely in the metal protection cage at the back of the unit. The "C" clip that was supposed to hold the fan blade on the shaft, was sitting in the bottom of the unit.

I ordered this half expecting to modify/change/upgrade parts over time, but I wasn't really expecting it to be dead on arrival. However I was not about to waste time and money sending it back and getting a different one, this was an easy fix, so I decided to fix it.

The VegiKiln is really easy to take apart and work on, 6 or so screws on the back, pulls out the whole fan and heating assembly, a few more takes off the protective cage around it.

I was able to pretty quickly put the fan back on the shaft, and the "C" clip on top holding it in place correctly, and get it all back together.

It now seems to run great, and is pretty quiet, but given how easy it is to change stuff on this thing, I already have some ideas to make it even quieter, and possibly more efficient.

Before putting food in it, I would let it run at full heat for a while, then turn the heat off but leave the fan on for a while. Like anything that gets warm, it will put off some smells when its brand new.

I am surprised how quickly I filled 5 of the 6 trays with my "little first test batch" (bananas and apples).

Food dehydrators are extremely basic, there is no reason they should cost anywhere near $200+.

This unit is closer to reasonable in price, and has nearly all of the benefits of its more expensive competitor.

If I payed $240 for one, it better not ever have a problem, at $90, well hell I can probably fix / replace / upgrade just about any part in this thing for next to nothing, and its super easy.

I will be putting this thing through the ringer over the next couple weeks, if anything else crops up, I will update my posting here.

I feel like 4 is a little high for a product that didn't work as delivered, but assuming you don't have that issue, this is an excellent machine.

This would have gotten 5 stars if it weren't for the quality control on my unit.

I purchased the off-white media center. It arrived almost a week early, in perfect shape, not one scratch! Its true--its very easy to put together, looks much nicer than I had expected, the fire does actually look somewhat realistic, it throws out a considerable amount of heat (controlled by thermostat), and I love the remote that came with it. Another bonus is that my speakers fit in the side cabinets so I don't have to look at them AND the louvered doors can be left closed without muffling the speaker sound. The height of the unit is perfect too, I no longer have to prop my tv up on a tray. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that the weight of my 42 inch Vizio made the top of the console sag in the center. Remedied that problem with the "optional" post, but the ad for this product says the console is idea for 50-Inch flat screen TV which I assume would weigh much more than the 42 inch that I have. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

i was very pleased with this purchase. it was easy to put together, my son had it together in an hour. it is a nice looking piece of furniture and the amount of heat it puts out is surprising. the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is it had a small scratch on the bottom piece but it was easily disguised, because of color i took a black marker and ran it over the scratch and it covered it, believe me i am very picky, and all in all i am very happy.

I did tons of research on electric fireplaces and narrowed down to two. Chose the Antibellum model because of the Tv media portion...other one was fireplace mantle only. Shopped around for pricing and found on Amazon for $200 less than others.

I Love this electric fireplace! I live on Cape Cod in a condo so i chose the antique white. It is perfect. Has some distress marks on wood that adds to its charm. The size is perfect and throws off lots of heat! Adjustable thermostat, flames and wood embers make it easy to create the mood. Remote comes in handy when curled up reading...Cabinets have lots of storage space with an adjustable shelf in each. Media shelf is plenty big. I suggest you use the optional center post to prevent sagging from a larger Tv. I have a 32 inch Tv but other reviews stated issues with larger tvs.

Very easy to put together! Materials are very sturdy and definitely not cheap looking.

My fireplace arrived in two boxes in 2 days and two days EARLY!!! Packaging was good. Some dirt smudges on pieces but nothing that shows. Firebox size is really nice looks like an actual fireplace. Small issue with installation of box...two brackets to hold unit in mantle are at the front of box and unreachable to actually screw it. Comes with a slider bar also so that's what I used.

My only issue is that the heater blows from the half top of the firebox (other half is where the hidden controls are) I would much prefer that it blew from the entire width of the bottom and the blower is a little noisy. Some other models have a fire crackling sound and I wish this one did too.. but other than that it is a wonderful addition and highly recommended !

Love this Fireplace. Only reason it gets 4 stars is mine like another reviewer had marks where the paint is rubbed off. It almost looks like it was rubbed of by Conveyor Automation. It is easily repaired with a Sharpee Magic Marker, now it looks perfect.

The firebox looks excellent. It looks better than the Fireplaces I was looking at Home Depot and the furniture store near me.

The On indicator and Heat on indicator Glow bright beneath the Grill, which I did not like, but that is easily remedied as well. I used Black Hockey tape.

The top shelf area has a post in the middle but it is optional to install, which is great because it gives me more room for my Cable Box and PS3 and Controllers.

For starters, stop reading reviews prior to 2011. The early issues with this kegerator have been addressed to the point Nostalgia really should assign it a new model number. As reported by others the regulator is now a pretty nice dual gauge unit, with a lockable output valve. Meaning once you get your CO2 settings dialed in you can lock the knob so it doesn't get changed accidentally while changing out a keg, etc. Also, the unit is dead quiet.

The instructions have been completely revamped and are very easy to follow. All the spare parts provided have been labeled in the manual, no mysteries there either. Before this arrived I downloaded a PDF copy of the old instructions, and it's true the early buyers were basically left in the dark.

I followed the instructions, charged my tank, threw in a 1/4 barrel, and no problems at all. The beer has a perfect head on it, and my monitoring of temps have been hovering around 34-35f. That's with the thermostat set to maximum, so I'll be watching that closely. I don't want my beer to freeze!

A few things to note:

1) The keg tower rubber washer (#5) was not already installed, and is not really mentioned in the manual. Be sure to install it otherwise there's not a tight seal between the tower and fridge and cool air will escape. You'll know if it's not on because the tower installs too easy and doesn't feel tight. The nice side effect of this design is that the tower is basically cooled, so less stale beer in the line.

2) A 5 pound CO2 tank will fit with a full 1/2 barrel, and can be bought at a local gas supply or welding shop filled for about 50 bucks. Refills on the tank are around $9. The 2.5 pound tank shipped is fine, and I'll be filling it so I have a full tank at all times. The 2.5 pound tank should be able to dispense 2-4 1/2 barrel kegs, the 5 pound tank 4-8 1/2 barrel kegs. Tighter fittings, lower CO2 settings, more kegs...

3) The casters are optional, and there are already self leveling feet installed if (like me) you prefer the unit to be shorter and stationary. Height to the top of the fridge door is exactly 31 inches without the caster installed.

Anyway, given all the features and the insane price of $380 shipped I can't see how anyone could be unhappy at this point. All the negative reviews made me really ponder this purchase, but I'm happy to report they're all talking about a different product. I'll post a follow up at 12 months, or before if I experience any problems.

NOTE: I've updated this post in March of 2013, after a year of ownership. My basic feelings of the kegerator are still the same--but I just wanted to update some of the information provided in this review. In summary, I did end up replacing the regulator with a higher-quality one.

This is an excellent kegerator. We purchased it as a Christmas gift for my dad, and we are currently on our second half-barrel of lager! I was a bit skeptical of this based on previous reviews, but as many reviews state, Nostalgia had changed some parts and old issues are no longer present with this model.

LOOKS

We all think it's a good looking unit. Nostalgia offers the same unit but with a stainless steel door. I decided against the stainless steel model because we currently have stainless steel appliances and they show smudges and fingerprints easily. We keep the kegerator in our garage so the black is more appropriate. This unit also features a rounded front door, so the keg partially hangs out when the door is open. Most other kegerators have a flat door, which makes the whole unit looks larger. It is also not the highest quality appliance you will find, as the internals of this unit seem to be a bit plasticky, especially next to a nice, expensive refrigerator. But if you temper your expectations, you will be very happy with it.

ASSEMBLY

The instructions are a bit frustrating. Each section doesn't seem to be in proper order. Also, there are plenty of extra little parts that come with it. I still don't know where they all go, but it's good to have them I guess. My best advice to get it up and running as soon as possible:

* first have a keg ready to go (call a local beer store, and have them order and hold a keg of your favorite beer until you're ready for it--it may take a few days for them to get the keg if it is not in stock).

* Unbox the unit and put the casters on (not too tightly or they will be difficult to spin).

* Plug it in and turn the thermostat to the coldest setting.

* Get your Co2 tank filled up. I took mine to a paintball place, but you can also try a welding or outdoor sport shop. If you're still stuck, call a hardware store for some suggestions. Also, the beer store you're getting your keg from may swap Co2 tanks.

Take your time with assembly and read the instructions carefully. It may be a bit frustrating at times with all the different sized washers and parts, but keep at it and you will work through it just fine. At first, I used nylon tape on the fittings, but later found that there is no point to this, as the various washers in place are there to stop leaks, rendering the nylon tape unnecessary--but there is no harm in doing so. I had a tough time getting the tower on with the rubber washer (the instructions didn't say to put it on but it is in the parts bag, and the tower doesn't fit right without it). I recommend putting some dish soap on both sides of the washer, put it in place, stand on the left side (when you're facing the unit) and hold the unit in place with your knee while you push down hard and turn the tower clockwise until it locks. It may take a few tries and some effort but it eventually fits snug and will help keep cold air in.

REGULATOR

Past complaints have been about the regulator. The old regulator was a single gauge--this newer one is a dual gauge. After a few months of usage, I decided to replace the regulator due to it allowing the keg to become over-pressurized despite my low-psi setting. The Co2 pressure SHOULD remain constant throughout the life of your Co2--if you are constantly fighting the pressure, get rid of the regulator and buy a new one. Over-pressurizing your keg will waste Co2 and end up costing you more money and frustration anyway. After some research, regulators from Micromatic seem to be held in high regard, so I went ahead and purchased one from their website (dual-guage, premium, part #642). If you do purchase a new regulator, remember to get a new gas line and barbed tip so you can connect it to the keg coupler--Micromatic sells all of this. I've had zero issues since changing the regulator. Also, the regulator I purchased was a bit larger than the stock one, so it may be a tight fit depending on your keg and Co2 tank sizes.

Remember that when you have a new keg, the keg is already pressurized somewhat, so you will need very little Co2 pressure through the first few pours until the keg pressure is relieved, or alternatively relieve the pressure using the pressure relief valve on the tap. After that, you will have slower pours, which is your cue to turn up the pressure. Don't turn it up too high or else you will get foamy pours. There is a relief valve on the regulator to reset the pressure which is helpful during adjusting. There is another relief valve on the keg tap as well, which can also help troublesome pours. This kegerator comes with a 5lb Co2 tank, but it was quickly swapped out for a larger tank. It may be a good idea down the road to get a 10lb tank and keep the included smaller tank as a spare.

Another note: always remember to use a nylon washer between your Co2 tank and the regulator. Failing to use a nylon washer will result in a leak. If you swap your tank at a beer store, they will likely give you a washer. The Micromatic regulator I've described above has a permanent washer in place.

THERMOSTAT

Some reviewers wrote about modifying the thermostat by removing the cover on the thermostat and adjusting the little screw. I would recommend taking a wait and see approach to determine whether you need to do this--you don't want to adjust it too much and unnecessarily freeze up your beer (most beer freezes around 28-29 degrees). I ended up waiting 24 hours before I gave the adjustment screw a clockwise turn, waited a few hours, then checked again (my keg was hovering around 40 degrees, I was shooting for about 36). After the adjustment, the temp has been steady around 36.

THERMOSTAT ADJUSTMENT

Here is how to get to the adjustment screw: first, unplug the unit, then on the back of the unit, turn the temperature dial to the max setting, then pull the knob off. Now, remove the two screws that hold the thermostat housing to the side of the kegerator. Then remove the two screws to take the thermostat off of the housing. Then on the thermostat, there is a small phillips screw above the temperature adjustment dial. Turn it once clockwise to go colder, counter-clockwise to go warmer (just one turn was all I needed). Put everything back together, plug the unit back in, then wait a couple of hours before you check the temperature and make another adjustment as necessary.

After a year of ownership, the kegerator has remained cool and reliable.

CLEANING

An important topic that I did not previously cover in my original review. Make sure you buy a nice kegerator cleaning kit (I recommend this one: Beer Line Cleaning Kit). You will want to keep the beer lines clean, otherwise, bacteria from the beer line can creep back into the beer, causing the beer to go bad. I recommend cleaning the lines after every keg change--it's a simple process of disconnecting the lines and running a cleaning solution through the lines, as well as disconnecting the tap and cleaning some of the little parts. There are also little parts for attaching to the tap to cover the tap opening when not in use for extended periods of time--they can be easily found on Amazon.

I have not had any shipping/packaging issues that other reviewers spoke of. I also have not had any reason to contact Nostalgia customer support.

NOTES: Some issues people commonly have, especially when they are new to kegs, are that the beer either comes out too slow (which basically means you're out of Co2 or don't have enough pressure), or the beer comes out too fast (meaning too much Co2 is in the keg), resulting in a foamy mess. Firstly, your regulator has two gauges--one, (the left side) gauge, shows the pressure coming from your Co2 tank, and the other (the top gauge), shows the pressure you are delivering to the keg. Typically, the left-side Co2 tank gauge reads anywhere from 500 to 1000 bar psi (which will vary on the tank temperature), and it is perfectly normal for the tank to read in this range when it has enough Co2. When your tank begins to run out, it will quickly hit zero. And when you're setting up a new keg, the pressure may fluctuate a bit as the system normalizes, so while the correct pressure may be set once you first hook up a fresh keg, checking back an hour or two later, you may notice it needs readjusting. This is normal.

Now, in the event that you over-pressurize your keg, it means you have way too much Co2 in there, and as a result, your beer will come out very fast and very foamy. Some reviewers blame this on the kegerator, but really it is their own fault. The simple solution is this: close the valve on your Co2 tank as well as close the switch on your regulator. Then, find the relief pin on your keg tap (you have two relief pins--one on the regulator, one on the keg tap). Pull this pin hard (helpful if you use a pair of pliers) and it will slowly release the pressure in your keg. It may take a minute or two, but the pressure will slowly die down. When the pressure is relieved, start pouring beer until the pour is too slow (it may even take a few pitchers more of foamy beer, but it will get there--be patient). Finally, when the pour is too slow, open your Co2 tank valve, then turn on the regulator switch to the open position as well, and finally slowly adjust your Co2 on the regulator until you get a nice pour. It may take a while and readjusting in an hour or two, but be patient!

Finally, when your keg is kicked, close off the valve on your Co2 tank as well as the switch on the regulator to avoid losing any Co2.

Overall, I think you will be very happy with this unit. It's one of the cheapest ones you'll find on the internet, so as long as you take your time setting it up and do your research on this unit to find out its quirks, you will be happily pouring fresh, draft beer in no time!

I was a little hesitant buying this kegerator because of some of the bad reviews it received from this site and others. However, I trusted Amazon to take the return if it came in broken or did not perform. I've had this item for about 2 weeks now and I have to say it works beautifully. If you are concerned about the following items don't be:

Thermostat does not keep the beer cold enough false, I've had to turn down the fridge because it was TOO cold. Did not modify it at all.

Regulator only has one gauge false, this kegerator came with a dual gauge regulator.

Slow shipment false, ordered with prime, shipped 3 hours after I ordered it, packaged very well.

CO2 tank held by cheap band false, CO2 tank is held by a plastic mesh and fits very nicely in the back.

Overall this has surpassed by expectations for a kegerator under $400

I too was a little skeptical at first, but it all worked out fine. First off; read, read, read others reviews for installation tips. I did and it all worked out for the best. First off, if you're going to go ahead and upgrade to a 5-gal CO2 tank, do it and order at the same time you order your kegorator. You'll end up saving a few dollars. I didn't and instead of paying $60 through Amazon, I paid $90 + tax for an empty tank. Here are more recommendations:

1. The instuctions are a little vague, but try to follow them and the recommendations of others. There are lots of extra little gaskets and misc. parts that are shipped with your unit. Don't panic and think you've missed a step.

2. As recomended, use teflon tape on all fittings.

3. It doesn't tell you in the manual, but do as others recommende and USE the rubber gasket when you install the beer dispenser tower. I sprayed the gasket with WD-40 first. It was still a bit of work to twist and lock the tower, but if you omit installing this gasket, you'll lose cold air.

4. When you first instal your CO2 tank to set your pressure, be sure to turn the regulator valve all the way off, the open the tank valve (just one turn), then open your regulator valve to the required pressue (7-11 psi). I found it easier to set the preferred pressure at the CO2 valve and when it stabilized, I used the allen wrench to lock the regulator valve at that pressure. Note: Be patient when making this adjustment. Turn it slighly and wait for it to stabilize.

5. I was one of the unfortunate few who's kegorator did not get cold enough at first. The coldest it got was 40 degrees with it turned to MAX and waiting overnight for it to cool down. I followed the recommendation of others, removed the thermostat housing and thermostat, adjusted the screw a few turns clockwise and reinstalled thermostat. Now the temperature sits at 36 degrees with the thermostat set just a 1/2" before the max setting.

Now for the not so good part. After all was said and done (e.g. correct temperature and CO2 pressure), I tapped my keg and discovered that I had a faulty beer line. It had a pin hole at the 90-degree bend of the beer line tail piece. Beer went everywhere which of course rendered the unit unuseable. I called the number in the instruction booklet, explainded my issue and they sent a complete beer tower at no cost. BTW, I went ahead a purchased a replacement metal tail piece at a local Home Brew store, cut the plastic tube, inserted the new piece, clamped it down with one of the 'extra' clamps provided and it works fine. I have an extra beer tower just in case.

I now have ice cold Yuengling Lager on tap. So, if you follow the recommendation of others, and with a little patience, you shouldn't have many, if any, issues.

Update: It's been well over a year and my Kegorator is still working like a charm. Cold, cold beer! Cheers.

I ordered this item on September 14th. Didn't get delivered until October 4th. Way out of the time range that was initially given. Product information made it appear that all you would need to do is supply the Keg and get the CO2 tank filled. WAY OFF. The "regulator" that comes with the Kegerator doesn't regulate ANYTHING its simply an off on switch for the CO2. After spending 2 days wasting beer I took it to my local tavern and confirmed what I already thought. So I had to drive to my local Beer Supply store and spend an additional $50 for an actual regulator. Then I experienced the problem that any regulator you buy doesn't connect to the supplied air hose as it should. Next stop Ace hardware where i purchased new tubing and fittings (another $10 down the drain). Upon affixing my new regulator and air hoses I realized that the beer comes out WAY too fast causing an excessive amount of foam. Last trip to Ace Hardware and got a water flow restricter for another $3 and now at long last i finally have a fully operational kegerator. Cheers and have fun.

After reading all the issues with flip waffle makers I was rather hesitant to purchase one. I was originally looking at the Warring 300 (single unit) but having heard issues with the hinge, i decided not to. Upon looking at this double unit, I feel the hinge is definitely better and purchased it.

I typically use Bisquik for my waffles. Nothing all that fancy. I seasoned the iron with vegtable oil. The first time i filled the included cup, spread it out and it slightly spilled out not much at all. I had the unit set for 4.5 since we prefer crispy waffles. I flipped the unit and poured in slightly less. I flipped it again. Oddly enough, the second pour was on the bottom and was done first. It came out a bit dark but more than usable. It stuck a bit. Poured more in and the first pour was done. It was lighter. Moral here, quantity is just as important as temp setting. Once I figured it out, all were golden brown. Later we preferred the temp at setting 4.

Also, I can see why some of the hinges can fail on flip units. AS the batter puffed up, it can put strain on the hinge possibly damaging it. My suggestion is to use less mix at first and creep up to full with your mix so you can determine the right amount to use that will not stress it. I had the top waffle pop the top open so I can see how it could stess the hinge.

I gave this a 4 our of 5 because I hate the fact that there is no indicator on the handles which way to turn it. I ended up putting a silver sharpie arrow on each to indicate which direction it will turn freely in. I think some could damage the unit if forced to turn in the wrong direction. Also, I found that you had to be particular how you took the waffle out. If taken out by a dividing line or not causes them to stick more easily. I did find that sticking was lessened the more I used it. I seasoned per the instructions but set it up on #6 temp setting during seasoning. It could be I need a bit more oil in the mix, too.

To me this is a real keeper. The waffles are crispy and delicate within. The outer crispy layer is thin real nice. I had a 10+ year old cuisinart before and it made the crispy layer a bit too thin. this is much thicker and better. I would recommend it to everyone. this unit is 1400 watts.

UPDATE 12/13/2012 LOVE THIS WAFFLE MAKER!!!! I ended up getting a small ladle where 2 scoops with the ladle would fill it perfectly. Not sure exactly of the size but if I had to guess I would say it was a 2 oz model. Waffles come out with no problem. I use it nearly every weekend and got a plastic bag to put over it since it sits on the shelf of a microwave cart. No issues with the hinge. Still setting ti up on #4 for cooking. Have tried Hungryjack Buttermilk Complete and it does make a nuttier flavored waffle. Little nicer than the bisquik. the only downside is it is thicker. Not as light and airy as Bisquik but close.

I have done waffles with walnuts chopped up and blueberries. both are awesome and none have stuck. Do not remember the last time I have seasoned it either. Do not really think it needs to be since everything comes out easily.

Had my uncle over and decided to see if we could keep up eating with how fast we could make them. This thing still can kick out a cooked waffle from either griddle in 3 mins. Even with 3 mouths going, we had to throw in the towel. It is cool to be able to feed several people and have all eating in close proximity of time. Most other waffle makers will have one guy eating while the rest are watching.

Definitely would recommend this. I changed my review to 5 stars since the marker arrow completely stops me from picking the wrong direction to turn. Not an issue to me.

1-9-2013 Someone remarked they added directional arrows so the owner knows which way the griddle can turn. Mine does not have them. Also, I tried to use HungryJack Buttermilk Complete instead of Bisquik for waffles. They did have anice nutty flavor but unfortunately they did not crisp up like the Bisquik ones do. Not sure if it is all the oil (1/4c I think) or what. they just do not come out as crispy. I tried the Martha Stewart flip the waffle back and forth between my hands trick adn it did help for a few moments after cooking. If left to sit, they were soggy. No fault of the maker only the batter. Still love my maker and it is still going strong.

This waffle maker makes the best waffles ever! They are large and you can make 2 at once. Machine is easy to use, beeps when it has heated to the correct temperature, add your batter and it beeps again when the waffles are ready. Simple and DELICIOUS!!!

Normally, I'm fairly difficult to please (ask my wife of (42) years)! Anyway, I travel quite a bit, and alway enjoy waffles in restaurants, when I order them. On the rare occasion when my wife or I make them at home, on a weekend, they're never as good as when traveling. So I thought I'd try once more to try making them at home, and start with buying a new waffle maker. We bought the double waffle maker, because that way we can both sit down at the same time, and eat breakfast together.

We were amazed at the quality of the waffles, this appliance made. My wife likes her waffles soft and doughy while I like mine well done or crisp. No problem with this waffle maker because each waffle is cooking separately, but at the same time.

We are so pleased with the Waring Pro, that we purchased another one for our son and daughter-in-law for X-Mas and they too, are enjoying theirs.

I bought this for my husband for Father's Day, and it has not disappointed! The ability to make two waffles at a time is wonderful for a family, and this maker cooks both sides evenly and well. Although the first time we used the Good Night Waffles from the included recipe book, every other time we have just used Bisquick for time purposes. It works perfectly well in this waffle maker.

The one thing I would recommend would be to not judge the waffle maker on the very first batch. It takes a full go-around to truly get it seasoned, and not all of the first batch of waffles will cook perfectly. Also, it is necessary for the cook to learn preferred cooking time. If I had it to do all over again, I would use an inexpensive mix such as Bisquick for the first time and then experiment with the "real" Belgian waffle recipes after growing accustomed to the appliance.

The only reason I rated it four stars instead of five is because I'd love to see removable plates on an appliance like this. It is a relatively easy waffle maker to clean, but by nature waffle makers are just going to be hard to clean unless the plates can be removed. With the rotation of the appliance, however, I don't know how feasible the removable plates are.

All in all, we are thrilled! This will greatly increase our waffle consumption, I'm sure!

This heater blew a fuse twice in my office, causing my coworkers' computers to shut down and lose unsaved information. The darn thing comes on for 2 seconds every 5 minutes so I'm constantly cold. I would recommend one where you can change the fan setting to go at all times on low without the thermostat stepping in and ruining a good warmth. Also, doesn't turn off unless you unplug it so I have to crawl under my desk everytime I leave the office. No fun. Want to return but it's too much of a hassle.

While this little heater creates heat it isnt what I wanted at all. First of all I realized that it has no safety features. If it tips over unto the rug, it just keeps going! A real fire hazard. Also also the front heat control knob says "off" you cant really turn it off without pulling the plug out of the wall, rather inconvenient. And as one of the reviewers mentioned its a real drain on a circuit, throwing the circuit breaker in the first day of use. Last year I bought a Pelonis for less and it was far better.

Wow, what a fine example of terrible engineering. The only control is a knob that ranges from OFF to SUPER. To set the thermostat, you turn the knob to the SUPER setting. When the room reaches a comfortable level, you slowly turn the thermostat down until the heater goes off. This is the point at which the thermostat setting equals the room temp. At this setting, the thermostat will automatically turn on and off to maintain the selected temp.

Greetings to whom it may concern. I purchased two of these HZ-315 ceramic heaters on January 28, 2009. Both vibrated across a smooth hard floor surface, very unsafe behavior for an electrical heating appliance. It was too costly to ship back even though they said they'd waive the return fee at customer service. Heater #1 failed on March 20th, didn't even last 2 months. I would advise to steer clear of this model, it's not the quality product you'd expect from a company like Honeywell and doesn't appear to be built to last either. The company I bought it from was very professional and timely, I did not contact them for a replacement. I wouldn't have wanted it anyway.

With her old circular dial thermostat on its last legs, my mother went to the local hardware store to buy a replacement. The store employee had her buy a 3-wire model since they only carry two and three model ones. Imagine my horror when I started removing her old one and found FIVE wires. Excellent little thermostat. I installed it in my apartment and will replace the old one when I leave and take this one with me. It's saved me a lot of money in heating bills and it's nice to have the house heat up 15 minutes before I get out of bed so I don't have to get out from under the covers while it's still cold to turn up the heat manually. Installation is very simple and you can do it even if you've never changed a thermostat before, like me.

Works GREAT if you just want to reheat soup, cook bacon etc. but trying to boil water takes forever and is frustrating! Bought this for my son to use in his dorm and he told me he often goes over to a friends room and uses theirs to boil water when he is cooking pasta.

I have been using this thermostat for a few weeks and it connects to my network and controls my HVAC well most of the time. The problem is that the battery backup does not work in some of these units. I have now tried four different batteries and have had a new version of the thermostat shipped to me from Amazon. Same problem. The biggest problem with this is that the unit will not function after a power outage until the date & time are reset. This means that if your power goes out while you area way from home, there is no way to turn the hvac system on without getting home to reset the data/time. To make matters worse, Honeywell refuses to provide an technical support, stating that this is not a consumer product and must be installed by a licensed technician. This is really frustrating.

I purchased 3 of these and they work great. I replaced Honeywell touch screen thermostats that looked and operate nearly identical to theses so the operation was something I was familiar with. Linking them up to MiCasa z Wave was simple. I did a full power link to the z wave network and never had to move the MiCasa controller to the thermostats.

I can now look up and control current temperatures for each of the three thermostats from my IPhone, computer and I pad very conveniently.

One thing worthy of knowing... the units have 7 days programing with 4 different setting per day. The 4 daily time settings (time slots) and the temperatures per slot are all adjustable. You can also put the thermostat on permanent hold.

The previous thermostats had provisions where you could hold a temperature for a specified number of days, then it would revert back to its normal cycle. I would use this if I was going to be away from the property for say a week or two and wanted it to return to my desired temperature for my return. My arrival didn't always perfectly coincide but it was close and worked ok. These new thermostats only have permanent holds. No holds for a specified number of days. But now it doesn't matter because I can control it remotely. When the thermostat is NOT in permanent hold, your remote changes last only until the next time slot. If the thermostat is on permanent hold, the remote changes the temperature and keeps it there. It doesn't not get automatically altered by the next time slot setting. This works fine, you just need to know how it works as the book doesn't not adequately describe this.

All in all, a wonderful unit.

I just replaced my two Honeywell Thermostats with the Honeywell TH8320ZW1007/U Z-Wave Enabled Programmable Thermostat . The old thermostat, a Honeywell TH8321U1006 VisionPRO Universal, had a "more" display that showed humidity and days left to change the filter. The Z-Wave version doesn't have the "more" display. Otherwise they are quite similar. The Z-Wave thermostat base is slightly larger than the older Honeywell unit, so I did have to move the wires from the old base to the new base. The units paired just fine with a Vera 2 controller and I'm accessing the thermostats from my iPhone using iVera. The iPhone display doesn't show the fan status even though I run both HVAC systems with the fans ON all the time.

In my setup I have a Trane 2-stage gas furnace/air conditioner on the bottom 2 floors and a Trane heat pump/emergency electrical heat on the top 2 floors of a townhouse. Installation and programming took about half an hour for each thermostat. Pairing went fast once I figured out the flashing light sequence in the Vera 2 to determine when to tell the thermostat to pair.

I've only had this setup 2 days now, but it is really nice to be able to monitor and control the furnace from the iPhone from anywhere. I'm anxious to add more z-wave devices to the house. These thermostats were my first two z-wave devices. I did download a plug-in that allows the Vera 2 to capture data from a TED 5000 gateway via the IP network in the house. So the integration of the thermostats with the power monitoring device worked well.

These thermostats are wonderful and if you are used to the non-Z-wave Honeywell Thermostats you will really like the Z-Wave version.

I've been running this thermostat for over a year now. It has worked extremely well. The only hassle that has occurred is that the thermostat lost "connectivity" 2 times during the year. Once after a long power outage and another time when I added other z-wave devices. To get the thermostats to "communicate" I had to unplug the thermostat from the base and then plug it back to the base. For some reason the date and time then have to be manually reset. The remaining programming stays. So I still feel this is a really good thermostat, but I've dropped the rating from 5 to 4 stars because the thermostat doesn't attempt to reestablish connectivity without a power cycle and it doesn't keep the date and time with a power cycle.

Purchased this thermostat through Amazon last month and my HVAC contractor installed it a couple days ago. So far it seems to function as described except that the LCD screen is defective in one corner (which does not seem to affect functionality). I contacted Honeywell support to have the thermostat exchanged since the Amazon 30 day return period expired. They stated this thermostat is NOT for sale to the end user and they will only honor the warranty if purchased through an authorized HVAC professional. Its great to see Z-Wave thermostats go mainstream and offer great features. When I was considering upgrading my existing Z-Wave thermostat, I considered several other "new" thermostats, such as the Nest Learning Thermostat T100577, but I had invested so much in my Z-Wave network I really wanted to stick to that type.

This Honeywell thermostat replaced an older Z-Wave Thermostat I bought several years ago, the Wayne-Dalton WDTC-20 HomeSettings Controls Thermostat. Both units cost about the same money, but the amount of progress made in 3 years is astounding.

Like the Wayne-Dalton Thermostat, I chose to have this Honeywell one installed professionally. Unlike the Wayne-Dalton one, which was almost impossible to install (you can read the reviews to see why), my heating/cooling folks put this on in about 15 minutes.

This what I love about the Honeywell:

Touchscreen! Nothing, of course, like an iPhone or iPad touch screen, but completely responsive and solid feeling.

Large screen so easy to read (I chose to keep the backlight on continuously (no timing out)

Filter reminder, with many options (days running, calendar days, etc).

Adaptive intelligent recovery

Ability to have fan run all the day, only when unit is cooling/heating, or at a set interval

And of course, the Z-Wave function. I'm using 5 year old software Leviton CCTEP-20W ControlThink ThinkEssentials 2.1 Professional with ThinkStick but I'm still able to set "normal" and "energy-saving" features for both heating and cooling. The Honeywell is immediately responsive to Z wave commands (the Wayne-Dalton took a few minutes go think about it...)

The one negative is that there are many options, but none of them are available through intuitive menus on the screen. Instead you have to put in specific codes provided by the instruction manual. Clearly, the idea here is to have your installer do the programming for you, but as a gadget freak, I wanted to do all the programming. Once you figure out how to do one, you can do them all. Just don't lose the instruction manual!

In sum, the Honeywell has everything I want, both in terms of a good Thermostat and in terms of a Z-Wave device.
