I was excited about this fan because of the oscillating factor and the 3 speeds. Most only have two speeds. I like "instant" heat. If I'm cold, I want to get warm fast. Sitting directly in front of this fan I didn't feel that I was getting warm. It produces heat, just not where I wanted it. I felt like the warm air came out like a cone, only on the outside of the cone, not the center. If I stood two feet away from it, I couldn't feel the air/heat on me. It's just not what I wanted.

This is a great little heater. When I first received it, I thought that it probably wouldn't do a real good job, but we have a rather large bedroom, and it heats it up wonderfully.

Chose due to price. First one received stopped working the same week.(not oscillating or turning on) returned and replaced with same one. Second went bad the following week after received.(overheated and fan stopped spinning) even after unplugging and letting it cool off,item instructions states that if this happens normal operation will resume in a few minutes..did not happen.Returned for a refund. This product is not a high quality product and is made in china. Ive learned my lesson,spend more on a better quality product. You will get your moneys worth.

We ordered this a few weeks ago, so far we have tried potatoes fries, pizza, roasted chicken and we roasted some almonds as well. Everything came out excellent. This oven is indeed a multifunction appliance. It first is a convection oven similar to a Rotisserie oven, but with a turntable rack. So you are not limited to roasted chicken and ribs but can put smaller pieces on the turntable. The second function is to replace the turntable with a food tumbler or paddle, it then turns into an automatic stir fryer. We made some fries from fresh potato. Needless to say the fries are much less greasy with only one spoon of oil, but we are thrilled to see this actually works. It means this cooker can take the tedious labor work out of cooking.

With everything we have cooked in this turbofry oven so far well done, we are very pleased with this product.

Roasted chicken is second to none. The first chicken we cooked is perfect, golden crispy skin bottom and up, and juicy inside. Cut and squeeze the chicken breast with a knife yourself, you will see what I mean juicy. The second time we surround the chicken with lots of veggies carrots potatoes, seemed like the excessive veggies blocked the air flow to the bottom thus the underneath of the chicken was not crispy.

Potato fries, We have not used similar products so there is no way to compare the results. But the paddle does mix the oil and fries well in a gentle way. The tumbler aid on the inner side of the glass bowl helps the mixing better. The tumbler aid could make some noise when we roast almonds, we then removed the tumbler aid and it just worked as good.

Pizza, this oven is a perfect appliance to make pizza. Pizza finished with a crispy crust and the excessive moisture on the pizza top were carried away by strong hot air circulation. And we have never preheat the oven which is a plus. Using extender ring gives better results. Con: only bakes pizza up to 9" .

Extender ring is very useful. Good thing is it comes free with the purchase.

And again, it is one of the best kitchen appliances we ever invested. We have extensively used it for a few weeks, at least one use per day, multiple uses during weekends, so far there is not the slightest regret.

I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews before purchasing this product. I wanted something that would be convenient for small dinners consisting of food items like chicken quarters. I tried it out on thawed chicken quarters and had it cranked all the way up to what is supposedly 482 degrees (I seriously doubt that the Secura reaches anything near that temperature) and I set the timer for 13 minutes. After the first 13 minutes I turned the quarters over for another 13 minutes. checking to see if they were done the internal temp was still only 145 degrees. I continued cooking for another 13 minutes on each side and they still weren't done. I wound up finishing them off in the microwave. Another reason I wish I hadn't bought the top of the line Secura is because it has the rotating bottom which means that there is a hole in the bottom of the glass bowl to accommodate the feature and this is annoying when you want to use a lower rack but can't because of the protruding mechanism. The recipe book that comes with the oven gives instructions like...cook for 45 minutes at 428 degrees and then turn the oven to 356 degrees for another 45 minutes...and that's for a medium chicken which is what?...2 1/2 or three lbs if that. And I guarantee you won't reach 428 degrees with the oven I bought.

Save your money.

As an update to my original review I have reduced my rating to one star. The latest incident was the cracking of the glass bowl. After making hamburger patties I allowed the oven to return to room temperature before placing it in a stainless steel sink I washed the bowl gently with a dish rag but when I went to dry it I found a crack. I went to Amazon to see if they had replacement parts....they don't. Secura's web site is nothing more than advertising...no parts lists no manuals no customer service number. This is the last Secura brand product I will ever buy.

I just got it today. We'll see how long it lasts. I expect a minimum of 2-3 years of service for this price or I will update the review and drop it to one-star.

Toast is the one thing the user guide doesn't mention, and I could find nothing scouring the web. I was eager to find out if I would be missing anything by not having a toaster or toaster oven. So the first thing I did was try a split English muffin with a dab of margarine and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. It didn't toast like a toaster. Actually, it was better. It crisped and browned in a really desirable way. My now defunct (after one year) B&D toaster oven seemed to have two settings watch and wait, or burnt. You generally had to just stand there and watch. This infrared convection cooker browned it nice and slow (well, 10 minutes) but in a very nice golden brown way. The margarine and cheese melted perfectly. I love this thing so far.

The instructions aren't very clear. I had to pretty much guess how the parts fit together. I will update this review as I learn more.

Update (8/13/12)

They cut the price in half two weeks after I bought this thing. That really rankles my feathers. But for whatever reason they did, I still like this thing. Just sorry I paid over a hundred more just two weeks ago. Makes really perfect golden brown toasted bread, english muffins and bagels, cookies, roasted chicken quarters, pork ribs, fried rice (using the food blade that moves around). This thing is far more versatile than a regular toaster oven. By comparison, the glowing red elements on a toaster oven tend to burn food too quickly compared to the infrared heat of this turbo cooker, which although fast-cooking, does not go from nicely done to burnt in the blink of an eye. Why'd they drop the fracking price over a hundred dollars though. Sorry that I bought this thing too soon. But of course my old toaster over just dies and I needed something. I recommend it so far.

Update (9/19/12)

Perfect french toast: crispy golden brown on the outside, thoroughly cooked inside, not dried out nor soggy. Potato pancakes turned out nicely too. For these types of dishes, it beats frying pan, toaster oven or microwave. The fired potato wedges without the oil are pretty darn good too. I season them up thoroughly with black pepper, garlic and onion powder, and paprika.

Update (10/25/12)

I'm now pretty much using this to the exclusion of microwave and big oven except when absolutely necessary. Cookies, grilled cheese sandwiches, veggie burgers, French toast, and even an egg scramble using the stirring contraption. Easy to clean, pre-heats quickly, and doesn't take an enormous amount of counter space. I really don't have any negatives to report.

I wanted to respond to the negative reviews since it seems the few reviews were either love it or hate it. First off, I am a vegetarian and cannot respond to how long it takes to cook a huge hunk of meat. My wife is not a vegetarian but has only cooked chicken quarters not whole chickens and it worked for her. It does seem to me to get hot enough for my needs and at least as hot as my old toaster oven. I have allowed the bowl to cool and washed it with soapy water and a steel wool numerous times. The removable glass bowl is one of the ways you are able to keep this thing super clean (as opposed to a toaster oven where there are always crumbs hidden inside it. I suspect either the other poster's bowl was cracked at the factory or else inadvertently smacked against something. These bowls are heavy and solid. I agree that the manufacturer's website is just a marketing page, but I haven't needed any help so far. I did finally figure out on my own how to place the little gizmo that stirs the potato wedges. The turntable feature does really help cook the food throroughly. It is fairly loud, the fan really blows the air around with some force (loose grated chefs will blow off french bread unless you add it to butter). The short cord is no problem since I keep it on a counter near an outlet. I think the trend toward shorter cords in general was probably spawned by lawyers by appliances being knocked off counters. Since this is my first turbo convection oven, I cannot compare it to the digital model. I stayed away from that because digital appliances often seem to malfunction ahead of their time. Having two dials (timer and temperature) is fine with me. I will test the max temperature out and post an update. The locking lid I see that as a safety feature and applaud it. One thing I will say is that if you add the expansion rings, it probably does not have a tight seal anymore and hot air might well escape. I have not cooked a whole chicken so I cannot comment on how well it does that, but as I mentioned, my non-vegetarian wife has cooked chicken quarters with no problem. I'm still using this thing just about every day and happy with it.

Cons:

First thing I noticed was that the temperature didn't get above 350 (checked with digital infrared thermometer).

Then I saw that the timer was not moving so it would not shut off the unit when cooking was finished.

The wheels on the rotating rack don't roll; they just drag around on the glass bowl (seems like glass would soon be scratched).

After one use, the heating unit in the lid was a splattered mess and wouldn't clean up.

Fills the air with cooking fumes to the point my eyes were severely irritated and I needed to open the doors to ventilate (and it was a cold winter day).

Pros:

Doesn't take up a lot of counter space (but wastes the space it does take up).

As a single working mom, I love this product. I way to frequently, forget to take meat for dinner out of the freezer in the morning, and love that it no longer matters!

Last night, I took a frozen 3 pound roast out of the freezer, put the rock hard piece of beef in this oven with the extender ring. I mixed steak seasoning and course garlic powder with a 1/2 tsp of olive oil and 1/2 tsp of maple syrup and spread the mixture over the frozen meat, set the timer & temp and voila. It cooked as fast as it would have if I had remembered to take it out of the freezer and cooked it in my regular oven, and it was perfectly cooked outside and in...yummy.

I was upgrading my thermostat which required more conductors than were previously run with the old cable. The cable was as advertised and at a good price. Wires were easy to strip and I didn't have any problems pulling it through the wall. The 50' length was sufficient for my needs. Note that this is a low voltage thermostat wire intended for low voltage HVAC systems. Mine was 24 volts AC.

Southwire is a brand I've seen in different stores and appears to be a quality brand of wire.

I used this to replace an ancient two-wire thermostat "cable" that was left in place after our old furnace and thermostat were upgraded. With the additional conductors, the thermostat now has a functioning "Fan" button, and it's also powered by the furnace, eliminating the need for batteries.

My local hardware store sells comparable 18/3 cable for 49 cents a foot, so this 18/5 is quite reasonably priced.

The cable's outer jacket isn't as tight as it appears in the illustration, and was easy to strip. There's actually a nylon fiber "ripcord" inside, much like you find in Ethernet cables.

The individual conductor insulation is thin (I can actually strip it with my thumbnail), but still adequate. The conductors don't seem brittle at all; they're nice solid copper.

I read the other review to discover the length is 50 feet. When compared to other brands available on AMazon prime, which stated the wire was brittle, i went with this brand. It arrived on-time and worked well for my needs, as my new digital touchscreen thermostat needed a 5th lead "common wire". My standard AC/furnace unit only had 4 leads (red-power, green-fan, yellow-AC compressor and white-electric/gas heat). The 5th lead color is blue, which I made the common power lead to power the touchscreen.

The outer jacket is good. The individual lead insulation is thinner than my existing wire, but seemed to be adequate. The 4 stars is due to bad description not showing the 50 foot length & slightly thinner individual lead insualtion.

Just installed in a 28 x 24 garage with an 8' ceiling (the ceiling is not completely insulated yet). It's a cold windy day (0 degrees wind chill), and this heater is keeping the garage warm enough to work in a flannel shirt. Without the ceiling being finished, much of the heat is obviously escaping right out the roof vents. I do believe that once the ceiling is completed, it will do a fine job in this garage.

Shipped quickly from Amazon with no damage; instructions easy to follow; installation was simple. Called Mr. Heater's Customer Service line with a simple question, and after punching a few buttons to get to the correct department, I actually spoke to a real person who also spoke English. Thermostat wiring could have been a bit longer.

Two points to consider when installing:

One, although overall very light, the heater is quite a bit heavier on one end due to the control valve, making it necessary to put a slight bend in the hanger to make it hang level. The factory could have positioned the mounting point slightly to the left to counter balance the heater, but this is minor and easily corrected.

And two, be patient about letting air bleed from the gas line and getting gas through the control valve when you first light the pilot. My supply line is less than 40' from the tank to the heater, but it took several minutes of holding the gas valve in at the 'Pilot' position to get gas to flow.

I'd recommend one of these to anyone with similar heating needs.

I recently moved into a house that had an exceptional heating system except in the master bedroom (probably due to a large French door). Didn't see the logic in heating the whole empty house just to keep one room warm, I started to look for a suitable heater. Upon some search, Vornado DVH surfaced as a viable option. Although pricier than other models, if it did what it claims to do (even warmth, quietness, safe to kids' touch, and good control) I thought the product would be ideal for my family needs.

While searching for the best price, I came to read the ratings by others on the Amazon site, and it was disturbing for me to see that there was a noticeable disparity among the raters (please look through the reviews and see for yourselves-5 to 1 star). But it sounded great at least for those who had them in working condition, so I decided to give it a try, knowing that there is a chance that I might get the bad apple.

Well, I have been using the unit for a while now and I have to tell you that it is worth MORE than its weight in gold!!! It is quite; temperature control is dead accurate; heating is impressively even throughout the room; and it really doesn't get hot at all to the touch; and even looks cool. I have occasional circuit breaker tripping when I use hair drier in the bathroom connected to the same room, but Vornado has not tripped the circuit not even once, even though I usually have it run at 78F when I use it (basically all night).

I'm sure others' claims on defective products are valid. But if you are unsure whether to give it a try because of those reviews like I was a few weeks ago, I strongly recommend you give this product a try. Even if you end up with a defective product like others claim, if you can get a good one after exchange (and get something like what I got), it is worth the trouble-and believe me I'm an extremely lazy person when it comes to product exchanges...

I only write this review because I wished that I had something like this to help my decision making. Hope it helps you.

I live in a basement apartment in Washington DC. The winters here get pretty cold and I do not have control of the heater. The landlord upstairs controls the heat (and they are rarely home).

I plugged this heater into my front room. The room measures 20x25'. The temperature gage intially read 58 degrees! Wow that's cold. I set the digital temperature gage to 72 degrees. It initially took about an hour to reach that temperature (I think the electronics needed to be broken in).

This little heater has been plugged in and running nonstop, 24 hours a day, for the past three weeks and it is nothing short of spectacular!

I positioned the heater at one corner of the apartment and it heats the entire room and keeps every corner of the room at the same temperature.

Since it has a plastic casing, it is constantly cool-to-the-touch and I have no reservation with leaving it on when I leave in the morning to go to work. The unit *never* gets hot.

I thought $100 was a bit expensive for a heater, but wow... this purchase has been justified.

I also have a humidifier (by Bionaire) running on a 24-hour basis to prevent the room from becoming too dry.

The temperature gage on the heater is spectacular. You really can tell the difference between 70 and 72 degrees with this heater.

It's fabulous. Nothing short of fabulous.

The Digital Vortex Heater is wonderful! We have a drafty attic office in our home, which has been impossible to heat. We've gone through at least 3 different heaters (all under $50) with no luck. We decided to try the Vornado Digital because of "how" it heats.

With other heaters, the room never really got warm. As long as you sat or stood directly in front of the electric heater, you were freezing. With the Vornado Digital heater, it warms the entire room by circulating the heat. And believe me, no matter what other says, it works! The only drawback, is it does take (depending on the size of the room, how cold it is outside, and how drafty the room is) some time to heat up the room. For the attic office space we have, it's about a 20' by 20' space. It warms up the room in about 20 mins, depending on how cold it is outside. BUT, once it's warm, it stays warm! The internal thermostat on the Vornado Digital works quite well. We actually have to turn it down or off after a while, because it gets so warm. I have been noticing after a few weeks of use, that it seems to warm up faster. So maybe there was a break-in period it had to go through, I can't be sure. Although, it does seem to work better after a little use.

We tried several different heaters from several different manufacturers, and the Vornado was by far the best at warming a room, and keeping it warm! Is this heater the kind of heater that pumps out direct HOT air? No. If you want a heater that is just going to be pointed at you to keep you warm, this might not be the heater for you. But if you want a heater that will heat up a room and keep it warm, with soothing warm air, there is no other heater better for the price! Again, it's most amazing feature being that is circulates the air throughout the room. Just for the feature alone I am satisfied, because I feel that's the secret to correctly heating a space. The only downfall being, that it takes some time to do it.

My suggestion is to at the very least, try the Vornado Digital. I purchased it from the Vornado website for $100.00, but I suggest going through Amazon to save on shipping. I think you'll be happy you tried it!

I recommend this one only. It seems to me that DVTH is an upgrade version of DVH (you can see the product number which is different) and far better than VH2. Current temp. and setting temp. is shown repeatedly with fan speed ('LO', 'HI', and 'FA'n only), and it accurately monitor and warm up the room.

Other heaters stops fan as well as the heating element when the desired temparature is reached; this one doesn't. Fan works continuously (slowly) when the temparature is reached... so that the entire room air is heated up properly. I tried Homles one, and Black and decker one, but they don't have this functionality.

I am pretty sure this fan works well esp. when there is another heat source (like ordanary apartment) but heating is not enough. I am not sure for other cases. But definitely, this guy is well worth the money (I know this is expensive). You can search hard and ask for the best price in a big online company which sells this.

I have owned several different space heaters from different manufacturers over the past 5 years or so, and this is the best by far. Most ceramic heaters generate too much heat in a small area and they get hot enough to start fires. The ceramic heaters I have used have melted parts of my desk or chair, they are a real fire or burn hazard. Even though they have fans inside to blow the heat, the heated air is so hot that it never gets more than a few inches in front of the heater before rising straight up. You are always either freezing cold or in fear of being burned depending on hwo many inches you place it from you. Oil heaters are nice but they have a terrible smell (supposedly this goes away) and they do not have a way to spread the heat at all.

The Vortex heater has a medium sized fan with a small wire heating element behind it. It's very much like the way a hair dryer works to heat air. This heater generates lots of air flow, more like a regular fan, while heating the air. You can place this heater 6 feet away and you will still feel a warm breeze from it.

The vortex heater is VERY quiet, and the front of the heater does not get hot enough to burn you. I also use this heater a quiet personal fan for the summer time. If you set the FAN switch to ON, the heat switch to LOW and the thermostat all the way down, it will blow air but not stop heating it.

The plug and power cord on the heater does not get hot like other heaters, but remember never cover the power cord on any space heater or high-powered appliance because it does still generate some heat.

The heater does a good job of detecting the temperature of the room and will turn off when it reaches the desired temperature setting.

The heater will turn off if tipped over. If the heater is bumped it turns off for a second. However, if you wanted to place this heater on an angled surface it will still work. Whatever the mechanism it has, it allows it to be angled but not tipped over all the way or bumped suddenly. The heater does not have a way to aim it up or down. It is preconfigured to blow at a very slight upward angle.

I have been using this heater to heat my 7 month old son's play area recently. He started crawling and the front of the design on the heater is just barely large enough to allow his tiny little fingers to poke into the front of the heater and get hit by the fan (this has never happened but at the largest part of the gaps in the front of the unit, it would be possible). Other than that, this heater is safer for children because neither the air nor the front of the heater gets hot. I would say that in a few more months his fingers will be too large to poke through. If this heater had the fine wire mesh front like most other heaters, it would be perfect.

The vortex heater is a little more expensive than other heaters, but it is well worth the extra money. I have had this heater for about 2 or more years and it works GREAT!

With her old circular dial thermostat on its last legs, my mother went to the local hardware store to buy a replacement. The store employee had her buy a 3-wire model since they only carry two and three model ones. Imagine my horror when I started removing her old one and found FIVE wires. I've used three of these thermostats in our home for two years. I found them difficult to program and have replaced them with three, larger, Honeywell RTH8500D thermostats. Big improvement in user friendliness when it comes to programming the unit. Ease of programming will translate into more days spent on auto mode rather than manual mode and will generate more savings.

Excellent little thermostat. I installed it in my apartment and will replace the old one when I leave and take this one with me. It's saved me a lot of money in heating bills and it's nice to have the house heat up 15 minutes before I get out of bed so I don't have to get out from under the covers while it's still cold to turn up the heat manually. Installation is very simple and you can do it even if you've never changed a thermostat before, like me.

It works like a charm. Our refrigerator is an older model, so when we replaced the thermostat we had to adjust the cold setting to a warmer temp as our water kept freezing. But after several adjustments, it seems to be doing well now. Good product for the money.
