I have 2 TX9000, and one, after just a few years (2-3), has failed. It says FAIL On the display, and worse yet, it will randomly set the heat to 90 degrees in the middle of the night. I'm going to avoid Lux (the brand who makes this), and try Honeywell next time.

The instuctions were simple. My biggest problem was in getting the OLD thermostat off. Now I have to find someone to gift with mercury in a glass tube. It is now sealed in a biggie, until I do.

The installation was as simple as the instructions, and the setup was simply turning a knob and punching buttons. So far it has worked as we wished with a cool overnight setting and an am warmup before the coffeemaker is done. The weekend could also be a bit more flexible, but we are here to make it do as we wish. However, there is no more going off to work, knowing as I park at the job that I forgot to make the set back yet one more time.

If it saves money, I'll modify the review and share the news.

The burner installed easily, and burns evenly and well. I would prefer the control to be on the side(out of sight) rather than in front, and the "rocks" that were designed to cover the front panel are ugly at best and were discarded. But otherwise, this is a really economical and attractive way to get a gas fireplace into the old wood burning box.

I received the product, put it together, and there were obvious differences between my unit and the picture. The most important difference is there is no fan. I talked to the manufacturer and they said they've asked Amazon to change the description, but it has yet to happen. There is a probe and dependant upon the distance it's placed from the heat source will determine when the unit will shut off. If you want to control the temp yourself with the knob on the front you can bury the probe under the small pebbles they provide to basically deactivate the probe. None of this is explained in the documentation. I'm giving three stars because the lady at the manufacturer was nice and I'm optimistic it will work fine this winter. That's really all I care about and I'll update the review this winter.

Update 8/9/12 After further investigation & communication with the manufacturer I've determined that this unit has no thermostatic control what so ever. It is totally manual and you control the temp with the knob on the front. It is not even the same part number. If you want thermostatic control you must go up to 24" and buy it at Home Depot. I'm just going to live with it because it's way too much hassle to return. The wizzard behind the curtain at Amazon is giving me a small credit for the mix up.

I've now used the product for a full winter season & it performed very well. We use it to supplement our central heat. In central Texas we get a lot of 30s in the morning & 70 in the afternoon weather. It takes the cold edge off in the morning w/o having to turn on the central heat. We use it a lot in the winter. I bought a 50 gal propane tank that when empty I can lift and transport myself to get it refilled. I guess all that really matters is whether or not it works for you and it does what we need it to do.

It wasn't long before we had to manually turn it off. It was advertised to have a built-in thermostat but this assembly did not have one. Although I am not convinced that ventless is all that safe (I use it with the flue open half-way)...it does create heat and it does have a very nice flame. For the price, it is worth it even though I really only use it for the ambiance. And the instructions are correct when they say there is an odor with the initial use. Most of the ventless sets I researched were 3X the cost....I am very happy I did not go the 700.00 route since I don't feel it is safe to use without venting it.

Bought this for a homemade styrofoam cooler egg incubator, in which the temps prior to installation swung from 85-112 using only a lightbulb and no fan. (Still miraculously got a couple chicks to hatch!) Installed this baby (plus a CPU fan) after reading mixed reviews on it's comparison to a wafer thermo and am thrilled! I made my own incubator using a water heater thermostat. The temperature range was too varied. I had some chicks hatch but most didn't. If I were to venture a guess it was probably about 25%. Some chicks got stuck to the egg membrane and despite my best efforts died. These were usually my Jersey Giants. With the new thermostat I probably get about a 75% hatch rate now and I've had far more Jersey Giants hatch than I did previously.

First, if you know anything about installing thermostats, it's no harder than any other. In other words, there are 4-7 colored wires, and you have to put them in the right place. That's it.

Now, for the thermostat, it is just beyond good. From the easy programming to the flexibility of the options, to the FULL AUTO mode so you never have to worry about switching from heat to cool again, it's a set and forget job. And the options for temp and holiday hold, the circulation feature that keeps your whole house more constant, etc. Great.

Remember, this is a single stage model, but there are slightly more expensive versions for multi-stage setups, so choose the right one. Most people will be fine with the 8110. I have purchased 4 of these in 2 housesand like the thermostatBUTone of the last ones I purchased has a flakey touchscreen. You really have to push and push to get it to recognize a command. When calling Honeywell (twice)I learnedthey won't honor any warranty directly with the customer. You must have a contractor come out to get it replaced.

Soyou could buy a new one for $100or pay for 2 service calls to get yours fixed under warranty. In other wordsthere is no warranty if you install it yourself. I'm irritated by this and wouldn't buy another product from them now...

Easy set up, just make sure you read all of the installation instructions. Some of the features the thermostat has are not active out of the box and require you to turn them on. The thermostat it self is very easy to use and program. I now have more control than I ever did and am able to keep the house at a comfortable level all the time. It is nice to never have to mess with the thermostat and the Auto Changeover feature is great! It heats the house in the morning and cools it during the day. One other feature I found handy is a circulation feature on the fan. It will run the fan 35% of the time to keep the air in the house moving. If you are thinking about purchasing a new thermostat get this one, you will be happy.

The Verdict

I replaced my old mercury filled round thermostat(you know the type) about six months ago. I've found this product to be both a solid, easy to install product and a good value. For those reasons I'd recommend it for anyone who's considering a thermostat in this price range.

Installation

This thermostat was straightforward to install. It included diagrams for several types of furnaces on which it might be installed, and I'm guessing it's fairly comprehensive, since it worked without issues on what looks like the no-name furnace in my garage. The wires just pop right into the circuit board on the back, and the unit mounts easily on the wall.

Operation

The touch screen is also easy to operate. It's intuitive and simple, somewhat of an accomplishment for a device with so many capabilities. With all the features it has, you can spend a lot of time programming it, so the other nice-to-have feature with this unit is that it can be removed from the wall without tools and programmed anywhere you'd like to take it. This way, you can sit in a comfortable chair instead of standing in the hallway.

Value

When I was shopping around, I also found this to be an excellent price for similar thermostats. You should find the same thing when you start looking around.

Additional Considerations

If you have the same type of thermostat I used to have and think this is too expensive for your home, then consider the benefits I experienced. Some of them might change your mind about how worthwhile this expense could be:

Increased comfort for about the same amount of money

My old thermostat came without even a switch to leave the fan running on the furnace to constantly circulate air. With this thermostat, I'm able to hold the temperature constant throughout the house and keep it stable over time by running the fan all the time. This results in a higher electric bill for me, because I'm using the fan more, but it also lowers my gas bill because the furnace is heating air less. The net result is that it costs me about the same amount of money to live in a significantly more comfortable house.

One less toxic chemical in your house

Did you know those old thermostats still have mercury switches? When I took the cover off my thermostat, I saw the little glass bubble full of mercury swishing around inside. I'm a reasonable person, and I'm reasonably sure that the mercury is perfectly safe so long as that glass bubble remains airtight. Now that I have kids, though, I can't always prevent them from running down the hall with a mop or something and getting highly toxic heavy metals all over my floor. There just isn't a good excuse for people to be keeping bubbles of mercury sitting around in their houses anymore. If I really, really want to have mercury in my house, the FDA says I can just buy some deep water fish like tuna or swordfish.

Additional savings from programmability

One of the other reasons I'm probably able to do well on my energy bill is that this thermostat, unlike my old one, is very programmable. It allows me to select four different periods for each day, and to set the temperature for each period. I can set the temperature down in sweater territory when nobody's home, and have the home comfortable again by the time I return, but still leave things toasty all day on the weekends when I'm typically home with my family.

Furnace filter change reminder

Maybe you're not like me. Maybe you always remember to dutifully change your furnace filter on an exact regular schedule, and this filter change is just so critical to your happiness in life that you look forward to filter changing day. You may even have a special reminder on your computer, or mark it on the calendar you make a special point of reading every single day.

I'm just not like that. I forget that my filter gets dirty, which lowers air flow and makes the fan work harder, which in turn raises my electric bill. That's not a problem for me anymore with this thermostat. It has a reminder feature that counts down a few preset numbers of days, then flashes a message on its screen when it's time for you to change the filter.

For me, that's more convenient because I'm typically at the computer in my office when my mail client reminds me of things like this. By the time I get home after a long day at the office, that little reminder to change my filter typically gets lost in the hectic haze of everyday life. With the reminder on the thermostat, though, I can stare, bleary eyed at the display for a few minutes. When it hits me that the screen is telling me to change the filter, I can trudge out to the garage and get it done with minimal mental effort. It's a good match between what I've got to give at the end of the day, and what I need to give.

I think these thermostats look great, and I think most people would agree with me. I also think potential home buyers will include "most people" by the time I'm ready to sell, and that this thermostat's modern but reserved design will still be attractive when that time comes.

It really does add something to the feel of a house when the homeowner upgrades smaller details like the thermostat. Things like that tell a buyer you've done more than just touch up a few cosmetic issues before selling it says that you've really been caring for a house that's overall in better condition than a similar house without those touches.

When it comes time for me to move, I'm expecting to get the price of this thermostat back, so it's more of an investment than an expense. Of course, chances are I'll be investing the same money into a new thermostat for my next house, since I just can't live without it now.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I've only experienced one problem with it since I installed it, but I actually suspect that the furnace is to blame. Sadly, since I can't easily tell for sure, I have to play it safe and only award the product four stars. The display has occasionally gone dark on me even though I set it up to be constantly backlit. Considering all the advantages I listed above, though, I have no regrets about my purchasing decision. If anyone else can tell you that the problem I experienced was definitely due to the furnace, then consider this a five-star review for an excellent product.

Our office had 6 thermostats all different. They were all difficult or impossible to program and with 50% hike in Natural Gas prices expected, I talked the boss into buying these. It took about an hour to install and program all 6 t'stats. It was extremely easy and the programming is so intuitive I only had to look at the manual once to set it up for two program periods instead of 4 not something you'd need in a private home. I've had mine about a week. Initial impressions so far are all very positive! This model is yet another 1500 watt ceramic heater and there is no shortage of them from several makers. Initially I set out to buy one of those fake portable fireplaces or wood-stoves with the visible fake fire inside. Reading all the specs and user reviews I could find on every one of those fireplaces and stoves it seems the maximum heat they put out is exactly the same as this far more compact and much less costly Lasko heater. About 1,500 watt power consumption and approximately 5,100 BTU heat output is the most you'll find in a portable room heater for home use. I settled on the ceramic type because of the rapid heating since I am only going to run it when I'm in the area where it is located. Ultimately since I only need an auxiliary heater a few months out of the year I decided that I really didn't want a fake fireplace or wood stove collecting dust the other 8 months of the year when I didn't actually need to use it. The Lasko is very compact stowing under the bed out of the way when not needed and is easily portable with a built in recess to use as a carry handle in the top back of the unit. I also read reviews about how the fans in some of the portable fireplaces/wood stoves were very noisy which next sent me looking for a very quiet ceramic heater. The word QUIET kept coming up in reviews of this Lasko heater and mine in fact makes hardly any sound at all! You do hear a low hum but that is all the sound mine has made so far and it does not interfere with TV or music enjoyment. The cable is 6 feet long.

I compared numerous brands of ceramic heaters with built in fans including Bionaire, Sunbeam, Honeywell and others. The Lasko warranty is 3 years which is the second longest warranty out there as the Bionaire has a 5 year warranty. The Lasko oscillates, it is very compact and is stylish looking more like a stereo speaker than a room heater. I also own a Lasko high velocity utility fan that continues to serve me well. Collectively those were the deciding factors in choosing the Lasko brand. Bionaire makes a good product as evidenced by their longer warranty, but their user reviews were not as strong regarding reliability on similarly priced Bionaire models.

The Lasko oscillation function was difficult to visualize before plugging it in, but how it works is that the entire unit except the small black base pivots silently left to right then right to left in a travel arc of about 45 degrees when you press the silver OSCILLATION bar on the control panel. Press the oscillation bar again and it stops moving immediately wherever it is at that moment. Now that I've used it the oscillation does actually seem to speed warming of the entire room and is a worthwhile feature I would definitely want again.

After looking for a space heater with a UL Seal I could not find one! I also looked for a heater made in the USA or at least North America and could not find one of those either. While made in China like the others and there is no UL seal, this one seems well made, sturdy and works perfectly. This heater is not easily knocked over, has an overheating safety shutdown, and is safe around pets or small children as it only gets warm to the touch. It has a red LED power light that is always on when the unit is plugged in whether turned on or not.

I would not hesitate recommending this Lasko portable ceramic room heater to a friend but encourage you to shop around as your needs might be different from mine. For example, an oil filler radiator type heater makes more sense if you plan to run it about all the time. If you need quick heat in a small to medium sized room for a few hours per day then a ceramic is probably better for your needs than the oil filled radiator type you run about all the time.

There are 4 settings on the operation switch which are OFF, Fan Only, 1 for Low Heat and 2 for High Heat. On high heat it consumes 1,500 watts, on low heat about 900 watts. The fan is always on when the heater is actually heating and cycles off when the thermostat turns off the heating element. The fan only has one speed but it is adequate enough to double as a small personal fan in hot weather making this unit more versatile than I expected when I bought it. The "fan only" feature may keep it out from under the bed in the summer but it won't replace the high velocity Lasko utility fan I own that moves a ton of air.

This unit's thermostat is easy to use. Once the room is at the temperature you like, slowly rotate the thermostat left until the unit cycles off and it will then cycle on and off to maintain a comfort level that is in the same ballpark.

I have turned down the thermostat on the main heat to 60 degrees and using this unit for the small area where I spend most of my awake time to make it more comfortable. Hopefully it will save money by not heating the entire place to 70 degrees. All on it's own it will heat up about 150 Sq Ft. to 70 degrees on high setting in 30 to 60 minutes, then cut it to low and it will maintain room comfort indefinitely. If you use a 15,000 BTU AC unit to cool an area, you can not reasonably expect one 5,100 BTU portable heater alone to heat the same area unaided, because you probably would need three of these units. When using in an area much larger than about 150 sq. ft. you may find you have to run it on high all the time to get much benefit. In order to get the maximum economy a space heater like this should be ran on high for about an hour at the most to warm up the room then reduced to low to maintain the temperature. If you find it is running on high all the time without warming the room enough so that you can turn it down or have the thermostat cycle off then you probably need to add a second or even a third one. The 150 Sq. Ft. rule seems to apply to all these 1,500 watt room heaters. This unit is not intended to heat an entire home, floor or even apartment unaided. Think of this as a whole-room heater, not a whole-house heater.

There is no remote control or digital thermostat control on this unit, but those features add a substantial amount to the price and I don't mind manually setting the thermostat. Other Lasko models are available with those extra features if you need them. I only use it when I'm up and around so I don't mind turning it on and off, changing the power setting or setting the thermostat manually. The last thing I need is yet another remote control to buy batteries for and lose in the sofa cushions.

So far as operational cost in concerned, it is easy to calculate based on your cost per kilowatt Hour for power. On high any 1500 watt heater like this one uses 1.5 KW per hour when actually heating. Here I pay 13.9 cents per KWH so it costs me about 21 cents per hour when heating on high setting in constant use. On low setting when heating it uses about 0.9 KW per hour so that costs me about 12.5 cents per hour of constant use. Your cost per KW Hour may be lower or higher so you'll have to do your own math. I run mine on low except for the first 30 minutes or so. If I ran it on high constantly heating for 24 hours it would cost me about $5, on low it would cost me about $3 for 24 hours of constant heating. I only run it about 8 hours per day and mostly that is on low, so the most it will cost is about 30 dollars per month, but that is not counting what I save by cutting down the thermostat on the whole house. The Lasko doesn't run continuously and it cycles on and off maybe running about 60% of the time on an average day here which is about 50 degrees outside for a high temperature and 30 for a low. It should save me some money over heating the entire house to 70 degrees, but I'm not sure exactly how much yet. I do know I am warm in this room and the main heat isn't running nearly as often or running quite as long when it does run.

I was very reluctant to purchase this heater and did so based on the only 3 reviews I could find. I have a basement room in my house that can get pretty chilly during the midwest winters (approx. 20 degrees outside = 55-60 degrees inside).

I thought about the infrared cabinet heaters that have become so popular but didn't have the $175-$300 to pay for one at the time. I have to say, I am extremely impressed with not only the quality of this little heater (the size of a surround sound stereo speaker) but with the effectiveness at heating the room (approximately 400 sq. ft).

I live in a 40 foot, 1 bedroom trailer. I need a safe way to heat during the winter months. I have 3 tiny dogs and 2 cats inside. It worries me that they would knock papers off of the computer desk, catch fire, and burn the place down! At first I bought one heater and I love it! Very quiet, warms up quickly, no extremely hot surface to catch paper on fire! I liked the first so much I bought a second for the bathroom/bedroom end of the trailer. I have owned other Lasko heaters in the past and I always find them to be better than other brands out there such as Honeywell, Delongi etc. This little heater warms my 400 sq ft living room to a very comfortable temperature. This is one of the few timers that work fine with popular compact fluorescents. It also has a built in rechargeable battery backup and uses a solar table to automatically adjust for sunset once you input your longitude and latitude. You do have to manually change it for daylight savings twice a year. I bought the T1035 model that works with a single switch. The T1034 is for 3 way switches (i.e. 2 switches). When I replaced my existing toggle switch I had get a new switchplate (decora) that fit the timer. When I wired it, I had to find the white wire in my junction box since the timer connects to three wires (white, black, and blue) vs only two with my old toggle switch. The third connection is to allow the timer to be powered when the light is off. I also connected the existing ground wire to the metal mounting bracket on the timer. Don't know if that was necessary since it was not mentioned in the timer instructions but I did it just to be safe. I bought the timer directly from Smarthome since they had a discount running at the time (no pun intended).

We bought this to correct an error we made during new house construction. We have eight outdoor lights on the front of the house that are divided into two circuits. One circuit, by the driveway, is wired to a day/night motion sensor. Don't know what we were thinking at the time, but the other circuit is not. The driveway lights come on automatically at dusk. The other side does not. We've simply been leaving those lights on all the time. Now that the house is finished, it would be too hard to install a day/night motion sensor for those lights.

As a work around, an electrician mentioned that The Home Depot sold a timer switch with a micro controller / clock in it that would turn the lights on / off at sunset / sunrise. That's the first I'd ever heard about such a thing. But before going to the store, I decided to see what you all had to say about these. Glad I did.

Apparently, the stores sell the Levitron brand, which most of you say fail early. So, based on the reviews, I bought this Aube unit instead.

It looks to be a high quality product. The instructions are thorough. This particular unit has a relay in it more on that later. Presumably Honeywell has tested the relay thoroughly because the unit has a 5 year warranty and that relay has to switch on and off at least two times a day, 365 days, for at least 5 years. (Actually, that's not very many cycles for a relay, so 5 years should be no problem.)

Now, don't make the same mistake I did. Aube sells two flavors of this box. This one, for a 3 wire connection, and this one Aube by Honeywell TI034-3W/U Solar Programmable Timer Switch, White for 3 WAY or two wire connections. But this isn't specific enough, and that's were I goofed. (But a happy ending.)

See, our electrician wired our lights as a 3 way. Now, right on the Aube package, so you can see it before you open it, Aube warns you that you must have 3 wires going to your existing switch to use this particular unit. (If you don't, they refer you to their other flavor, above.) So I dutifully checked our switch before opening the package.

There were indeed 3 wires going to our existing switch. That's because 3 WAY switches use 3 wires too! BUT that's not the same as what this unit expects. As another reviewer found, and as the product description says, this unit requires line, neutral and load. Fortunately for me, I'm an Electrical Engineer and also fortunately, our electrician had brought neutral down to the junction box. So I was able to figure this out and make this unit play in our situation despite the confusion. (I also bypassed the other 3 way switch. Once this timer is installed, there's no need to control the lights from another location.) It turns out I'd rather have this switch anyway, so maybe this was fortuitous.

See, this unit uses a relay. The other flavor Aube by Honeywell TI034-3W/U Solar Programmable Timer Switch, White uses a solid state device, a DIAC, instead of a relay. One implication of a relay is that, unlike DIAC's, there is no problem powering fluorescent bulbs (CFL's included) nor any worries about electronic ballasts. No minimum current required to keep the circuit "pulled in" as we say. You see a lot of concerns about this with motion sensors that use DIAC technology. Also, DIAC's aren't as "short" tolerant as relays. We have a Hunter ceiling fan that uses a DIAC to control the light kit. I've had to replace the unit twice now. Every time an incandescent bulb blows out, the current spike (flash!) burns out the DIAC. I'm not saying this will happen with the Aube, but I've had trouble before. I know it's "old school," but I prefer relay based units. (Unless you use H-MOS.) This unit can handle 2400 Watts, a lot more than its solid state counterpart can handle.

So, a little confusion over the package warning about 3 wires, but once past that, I'm happy. The unit has only been installed for a few days now so I can't report on its longevity at this time. But I'm happy so far.

I'd installed three Intermatic solar timers from Home Depot and had to uninstall and throw them all away within a year or two. Unfortunately, the big-box stores only sell the Intermatic ones. Despite the digital display, they have a mechanical movement that always breaks.

The Aube timers are all-electronic. They work and keep on working. The onlky downside I know is that they're a little complicated to set up, but it's worth it for a product that works as advertised, without trouble.

Easy install. FOrtunately I had 3 wires and not two. If you do have two wires to this timer it will not work or require some fancy wiring.

Using GPS coordinates to set your location is a bit odd, but works perfectly.

Much preferred over the Intermatic I bought at the Orange big box store. I went through 2 of those timers in 2 years. Their issue is they still use a mechanical switch to flip the switch inside the box. THIS AUBE timer is completely electronic. Look to have it working until I sell the house.

I also use a 40W CFL light.

Just the thing that I was looking for. Very easy programming. You enter the latitude and longitude, set up the current time and feed the time when you want to switch on and off. It takes care of the rest.

By default, after the initial settings (latitude, longitude & clock), it is set up to switch on at sunset and switch off at sunrise. But, you can easily change the programming to, say, switch on at sunset; switch off at 10pm and again switch on at 4am, switch off at sunrise. It allows two sets of switch on and off setting (ON1-OFF1-ON2-OFF2). If you leave OFF1 and ON2 as blank, it uses ON1 and OFF2. I have mine set up to switch on at sunset and switch off at 10pm. Works like a charm.

To make minor adjustments on the sunset/sunrise time, you can enter a slightly different longitude. For example, I wanted the unit to switch on about 10 minutes after sunset, so I entered a longitude 3 degrees west of where I am.

You can do a manual override any time by pressing the lid down. If you press it down for 3 seconds, the unit goes to manual mode.

There are a couple of notes:-

1. You need the black and white wires at the swich box to install it.

2. You have to manually switch the unit to daylight savings mode and back.

This is my first home deep fryer. I really do like it. I use it maybe a few times a week on average, making my own onion rings, french fries, jalapeno poppers, wontons, ect. I live alone in a tiny apartment with little kitchen space so its small size is perfect for storing and making a serving or two of items if I have a guest over.

The only thing I don't like about this machine is how hard it is to clean. Without soaking (not submerging, just filling it up with hot water and soap) it's absolutely impossible to get all the grime off the inside and even with soaking I can't get everything clean. This was great for a first machine but it will be replaced soon with something easier to clean. After six months of use I can barely stand to look at it. It desperately needs a good cleaning that I can't give it without dunking the whole thing in water.

The temperature settings were great for a first time cooker as well, though now that I'm a little experienced I'm wishing I had a wider range to play with.

Overall this cooker has met my expectations; it looks great and is easy to store. It also has appropriate safety features. Because of how difficult it is to clean I will be replacing it shortly.

This is a great fryer for its size. Only 4 cups of oil, heats quickly. I have made yam fries, tempura shrimp/scallops and fried wontons. All were delicious and very crisp. Clean-up is a little annoying because you cannot remove the oil container from the unit. This is pretty much exactly the same as the FryDaddy with the addition of adjustible thermostat and fry basket and cover to keep oil from spattering when frying.

This fryer is a great value for your money. It does exactly what it purports to do: it fries small quantities of food, at adjustable temperatures, and is small enough to be convenient for those of us without a lot of space. It's also a lot cuter than many similarly sized fryers of this type--which can be important if you're leaving it out on top of the counter most of the time.

It's small, so it doesn't use a bunch of oil, and we do usually just leave the oil in the fryer until it needs to be changed. It's lightweight, so moving it without spilling and cleaning it isn't really much of a hassle. And the exterior is very easy to clean because it's relatively sleek and simple. It works really well for exactly what it says it does: frying small amounts, like single/double servings of french fries. It does take a bit longer if you're trying to fry a lot, or something really dense like chicken legs/thighs, but that's only to be expected. And the food comes out great, with the perfect consistency.

The only thing we wish it had was a hook to hang the basket on for draining. It's possible to open the lid and balance the basket on the rim to drain, but you have to be careful it doesn't fall back in and splatter, etc.

Just a tip: we usually use the highest temperature setting, because any lower seems to be inefficient and take forever, so that doesn't really seem to be such a plus--but perhaps for different kinds of foods we don't cook it is and we're just unaware.

Overall, we are really please with this product, and it was a great value for the price. We use it constantly--and that's another great thing about it: it's small and we just keep it on the counter, so when my husband wants fries, we turn it on and it heats up really quickly, so it's very quick and convenient!

As the title says this is a small capacity fryer. Keep that in mind and you will not be disappointed. That is not to say that it does not have its limitations. It is too small to fry chicken breasts, other chicken pieces fit if you put them in one at a time. French fries work well if you don't put in too much. A small to medium potato sliced up seem to work well. The thermostat is accurate, but it starts to cycle before the set temperature is reached (at 390 it starts to cycle at 350). This makes it slow to reach the setting. If you overfill the basket with foods that have a lot of water in them (like fries) it can boil over.

To work around the issues I set the temp to 390 and it takes about 15 minutes to heat up. I slowly lower fries to keep it from bubbling over. Battered seafood works very well. I don't find it hard to clean as others have said, but then I clean after every use. For one or two persons this unit is ideal.

If there were negative stars i would have chosen them. I Bought this back in 2007 as an "easy way" to not have to run wires from my new addition. It is garbage. When the new week starts, the the unit will send a high temp signal to the receiver and the house will be at 85° come Monday morning. Also any and I mean any other 433 mhz signals in the area will cause the unit to turn on and off. Save your money--either run wires or buy a more advanced brand name other than this no name with a sticker on it.

Thermostat can be dangerous! We had this happen several times where we set the heat temperature, say to 72, and the thermostat did not turn off when it reached that temperature. In one instance we woke up and realized the temperature reached 89! Dangerous when you have a baby in the room. The room was super hot and the thermostat read 89! What we suspect is that the signal is sometimes not received by the receiving unit which is attached to the furnace. There is no failsafe, the two only communicate with a single on/off signal. To finally turn it off, I had to trick the remote unit to think it is turning on the furnace by turning the heat up beyond 89. Then once it sent the signal, I turned the temperature down so it sent an off signal.

Long story short, don't by this junky thermostat.

The heater itself seems well-made and runs well and heats nicely. It's quiet and retains heat. We replaced an older hydronic unit that died, and this is working well so far.

One big advantage to this unit if you are replacing an old one is the fact that this one can be wired from either the left or right end -wherever the wire already is. This was probably the biggest selling point for this heater, as we were replacing an old Isotherm (now Cadet) that was wired on the right -the new Cadets are wired only on the left and we didn't want to have to deal with the complication.

The color is called "Navajo White" and the pictures look fairly white. In reality, the color is more of a light taupe. This was fine for our decor, but don't expect a true white or even an off-white.

When ordering, note that you must also order a thermostat -there are ones that go on the end of the unit, ones that go on the wall, and ones that go on the wall and will control several baseboard heaters in one room. If you are replacing an existing heater and don't want to either fish wires or do drywall work, be sure to get the type that goes on the end of the unit. Whatever type you get, you must install the thermostat yourself -it does not come pre-installed.

I'll preface my installation comments by saying that we are typical homeowners, not contractors or otherwise in the building trades. It was the first time my husband did a project like this, but he's reasonably handy. First off, the installation instructions that are included are hard to follow -they assume a level of expertise we didn't have. However, on the QMark (Marley) web site, if you go to Heaters/HBB Baseboard Heaters, they have a much better .pdf file with photos of all the wiring. It still isn't perfect, but it's a lot better. My husband also commented that calling the junction box "roomy" is a matter of opinion, and while he found it tight, it was sufficient.

The biggest problem is mounting the unit to the wall. You must drill through the back of the heater (the holes are not predrilled) and then screw the heater to the wall (into studs). It's hard to do this without bending the fins on the heater (it's not catastrophic, but better for heat distribution if they're not bent). As every installation is somewhat different, screws are not included -depending on your application, you may need screws, molly bolts, masonry screws or something else. Be sure to get these before starting the installation.

Also note that you'll need several wire nuts -you can get them while waiting for the shipment. You need at least two of the type for connecting 2 wires.

It took Dave about 5 hours to install the heater, from unboxing it and removing the old heater to having the new one heating the room. He used a thermostat that went right on the heater. Admittedly, his total time included just under an hour to go buy some wire nuts. If you are more experienced in this type of project, it would probably take less time.

Overall, we're happy with the heater and would buy it again.
