I removed the sheet rock and installed a plywood back for mounting. Cost of change over: $300. Those fittings, flex hoses, and vent are expensive from Home Depot. They don't have the 3 X 5 heater vent pipes. 3" works fine. Did the install myself.

Will go to 140 deg must must read directions to set it. Nice to have the remote control. Will work with more than one remote. So you can set the temperature for what use. Very small, in relation to a tank. Cannot tell the difference between a tank an the tankless. I use one for the whole house.

This unit started out great and then after one year started throwing error codes. I found out that " normal" maintenance on this thing is going to cost me an extra $200 $500 each year! According to Rheem (manufactuer of Richmond products) I need to have a Plumber come out twice a year and descale the unit and then about every year to year and a half I need to have it completely disassembled and the burners and ignightors cleaned. What a deal this thing turned out to be!

Customer service said I could do it myself and sent me the 12 page instruction sheet for the cleaning of the burners. It involves removing the gas manifolds, control board, burner box, several gas lines, and then reassemble. It requires the removal of at least 50 different screws in very tight places. I am fairly handy at fixing thing and they told me it would take less than a hour. It took me 5! Only to find out the problem was in the control board.

I previously owned a Takagi tankless hot water heater, which is amongst the best one can own. But, this unit most definately blows away the Takagi, and most other units. Installation is simple. The unit requires only a very low flow to start the heater which is super nice. It runs incredible quiet. It is a very small and compact unit, and, best of all, it will save you a ton of money. Rheem also makes an even higher efficiency unit, if you are interested. The construction of this unit is excellent. I highly recommend it.

(BTW... I wouldn't pay too much attention to the reviewer who only gave the unit one star. If these units didn't work (as the reviewer said), then Rheem wouldn't sell them. I would imagine that the one star reviewer was probably a one star installer and that the unit they purchased was just fine. Otherwise, Rheem wouldn't have sent it back to Amazon.)

This was without a doubt, one of the worsy purchases that I have EVER made! Arrived defective and the manufacturer, Rheem, could not have cared less.They refused to replace the bad unit and kept sending plumbers out to touble shoot and fix. After the third plumber, I packed it up and sent it back to Amazon.Amazon was great! they took care of my out of pocket expenses and made me "whole". I will NEVER buy another Rheem product.

The Rheem 8.4GPM tankless hot water heater has a design flaw. Internal to the unit is an observation window used for determining if the burner is working properly. This window has a piece of glass which can fall out, allowing heat from the burner to damage internal components, rendering the unit inoperable. Unfortunately, Rheem will not cover the cost of this failure as they will most likely look for ways to classify the failure as "incorrect installation". In my experience, they did not like the vent termination assembly used, and disqualified any warranty regarding damage induced by the piece of glass falling out, which is wholly unrelated.

We had issues with our fireplace remote for about a year and kept fiddling with it, replacing batteries, etc. Finally we had enough and I googled the part number. I was pleased to find this at Amazon and prime to boot.

It was an EXACT replacement of both the transmitter and receiver. I followed the instructions and had no problem replacing the receiver. All the connections are quick connecting spades and are insulated. No tools needed. Just disconnect the old receiver and connect the new one -wire for wire. Hard to go wrong. The whole project, including reading the directions, took 30 minutes. It's been working flawlessly for the past six months.

I would have given this a 5 except for the cost. Just seems very expensive for what it is. I did shop around and couldn't find much better, so I guess that's the deal.

This is a sweet little thermostat and had I not needed to call Honeywell customer service I would give it a 5 star rating. First off; i have serviced industrial equipment for 30 years, however I an not what honeywell calls a contractor. this thermostat, according to honeywell; is sold to contractors only. First call they said voltage was incorrect, NOT. Second call, flat out; you are not a contractor: NO HELP PROVIDED. the set up of this unit is somewhat complicated with quite a number of options for many varied types of heating systems. We purchased this to control baseboard electric heat. We installed the HONEYWELL TL8230A1003 Thermostat Electric Heat Digital 7 day programmable in five rooms in our home. Unfortunately, when we got to our living room, the old thermostat wasn't 4 wire double-pole, but 24 volt. Instead of running new lines, we headed back to Amazon and purchased this item. It was very easy to install and program. You get four set points per day and you can customize each day in the week. There is a manual override, a temporary override, and a vacation setting. This is actually a nicer looking unit than the TL8230A1003. I'm very pleased with it. I definitely would recommend this thermostat.

I've had this thermostat for a few months now and it works great! I don't have any complaints, it's a 125V thermostat (line voltage)and they are not common in Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. You would have to go to a supply house to purchase one. With all that said, it works great. I set it and leave it alone. Got it in a timely fashion.

This device connects to your Aube thermostat via a two wire interface. It worked exactly as described, but I couldn't figure out how to use this with other equipment other than my thermostat. I also had to disable my answering machine but I'm not sure if I could get both to work at the same time. I probably should have read the owner's manual a little further. All things said, this worked exactly as described and was easy to use.

We've had this heater for several months and use it every night. It's used to supplement heat in a 15'x18' bedroom and heats that space up very quickly. I think the 'flame' looks quite realistic...just understand that it's not a real flame but they did a pretty good job representing a flame. The heat is blown from the bottom of the unit out to the front. The noise level is low, but the fan does stay on throughout the night whether the heat is on or off. But, we have two other Lasko ceramic room heaters and they are definitely louder than this. The thermostat function works very well. Please note, though, that the thermostat is not set by degrees. The first time you turn on the heater, you turn up the thermostat knob to the highest mark then when the room reaches the temperature you want, you turn the knob back until the heating turns off...that becomes your room heat point for the unit. It does work fine once you set it up. The remote turns the unit on and off only no heat adjustment, but we haven't had a need to adjust the heat once we set the thermostat and I like the on/off remote. The unit seems to be constructed well -I've seen different brands like this made of mostly plastic but that's not the case with this one. It's pretty compact as well so it fits nicely in most spaces. I wouldn't expect it to heat a large area (I haven't tried though), but I don't think it's made for that. Overall we're very pleased with it so far and hope that it lasts a long time.

I have always wanted a fireplace in my bedroom. At the back of the house, the room get's chilly at night and, also, I love the ambiance of a fireplace. My Dimplex Electric Stove arrived two weeks ago. I read the manual, plugged it in, put the battery in the remote and there it was! An instant wood-burning stove. It is so attractive and so easily moved from room to room. Honestly, the flames look real. Even when the stove is turned off, the logs are designed to have a little glow that looks like the dying embers of a fire. There is a very quiet fan underneath that blows out the heat and when I set the temperature control, it's just right to take the chill off in the bedroom. I almost didn't buy it because of some reviewers who were not happy with the thermostat. Maybe they did not read the manual. You have to turn the temperature control knob all the way to the right, until you hear a soft click. Then you turn it counterclockwise until just the right amount of heat is coming out. It will "set" that temperature and keep it there. I've had mine on for 8 hours and it still puts out the same gentle heat. The other thing I LOVE is that the manual says you can turn off the heat and still have the flames and the glowing logs without heating up your room. Awesome because on summer nights where I live, it's never cool enough to have a fire in our regular living room fireplace. If I ever want to enjoy the glow of a fire on summer nights, I will be able to click my remote control and have the beautiful glow and atmosphere without heating up the room. I checked out the Dimplex web site before I bought this and was so impressed with how they use the latest innovations to make the flames and glowing logs/embers look real. They really do. The stove itself is so cute. The door really opens. By the way, the unit itself does not get hot. So, there is no danger of burning yourself if you touch it. I am so pleased. When we have guests, I might just put it in the guest room for them to enjoy since it is so easy to move.

When I was looking to purchase an electric stove, I couldn't find a decent video of how the flames looked. I made this video with the heater running, and no other sounds in the room. When the heater switch is turned off and you are using the stove solely for the ambiance of the flames, it's even more quiet. If you have the TV or radio on, you can barely hear the heater fan. It's much quieter than I thought it would be. (There IS a rhythmic hum, but it's not loud enough to be distracting and I'm right up in front of the unit so it will be louder than if you're sitting 8 to 10 feet away).

The heater is attached to the bottom, and there is approximately a 1-1/2" clearance, so if you place this directly on carpeting, most of the heat exiting the heater will warm the carpet up quite well. I purchased some 18" x 18" cement blocks made to look like bricks from a local home improvement store, and stacked them to form a faux hearth.

Another thing you might want to get if you miss the crackling noise that you can only get from a "real" fire: Crackling Fire download this to your MP3 player or burn it to a CD and play it softly in the background.

I'm giving this a 3-star rating ("It's OK") because although I'd argue it's one of the better stoves in this class, I think this class is lousy and lacks some basic features, I guess maybe because no one would be willing to pay $300+ for an electric faux-fireplace...

I'm not really going to speak much to its heating ability because the fact is that a 1300W forced air heater is a 1300W forced air heater, regardless of the form it comes in. No space heater will give much more than 1300W because then you're into blown circuit territory.

I personally have this unit setup about 2-3' from my recliner in the living room (it's in front of my fireplace), so it is basically heating the area around my feet, I think it seems to be working well, but then I don't expect it to do much more than kick the room temp up about 1-2* higher than the central heating is set for, my room is a 15x15 room with two double-sized openings to other spaces...

Also, a word of warning that I heeded thanks to another reviewer: The first time this unit is turned on it STINKS. There is some sort of oil or something on the heating element. It gives of a distinct burning smell. Had I not already opened the windows in the room, and the adjacent room, I have no doubt my smoke detector may have gone off (which in my case means 5-6 units on all levels yelling "SMOKE DETECTED! EVACUATE! EVACUATE!" and can get really annoying very fast!!)

Pro's:

It's got a metal top/sides. It's not overly heavy, but does feel nice and solid

The "fire" effect and glowing logs are surprisingly nice

Overall appearance is quite nice

It does make some noise (the fan) but it's not loud, and it's a deep rushing noise, so it's easy to tune out

Con's:

I would have liked to see a heavier cord, 3-prong cord. With a metal body and resistive-heating elements that seems important to me

The remote will only turn the unit on/off, it will not let you change the temperature

There is no way to run the heating part w/o the fake flames (I suppose I could unscrew the light bulb...)

MOST IMPORTANT: There is no way to adjust the power consumed by the heating element (more on the below)

I used a non-contact thermometer to measure a few things for anyone interested:

Output at the grill, 250-350*F (it's HOT, you should be careful of small children around this unit, and be very careful of objects anywhere near the underside)

Floor in front of the unit, 120*F (I have the stove placed on the tile floor in front of my fireplace, there is a lot of thermal mass there... I'd be seriously hesitant to place this on a medium/deep pile carpet)

Most important: The plug/cord, 85*F (this measurement was taken after the stove was continuously heating for over FOUR HOURS. This was my biggest concern because I read another review here where someone said the cord/plug got hot to the touch--my cord/plug are not getting "hot", but they are warm. I think after four hours I've reached a steady state where it won't get any hotter, so my conclusion here is that this is not a significant problem. Tho, I would add however, that the outlet I'm plugged into is a new outlet, so it is not loose like one that is 15+ years old. You might consider replacing the outlet you plug this into if you notice your plug/cord getting more than just warm--new outlet is cheap, only a buck or two, and replacement is generally easy, everyone probably knows someone who can do it)

Here is my biggest grip about this stove, and this class of stoves in general:

This thing draws 1360W when operating w/ the heating element on... a typical 15A circuit will trip at 1800W, so there isn't much head room here. I really would have appreciated at least a 2-level heating element setting so that I could optionally run the stove at ~700W instead. I have an oil filled electric radiator with 3-element settings, it only cost $40 and has an LCD display and electronic controls... not sure why this stove at 4X the price cannot have the same.

This is one of the few timers that work fine with popular compact fluorescents. It also has a built in rechargeable battery backup and uses a solar table to automatically adjust for sunset once you input your longitude and latitude. You do have to manually change it for daylight savings twice a year. I bought the T1035 model that works with a single switch. The T1034 is for 3 way switches (i.e. 2 switches). When I replaced my existing toggle switch I had get a new switchplate (decora) that fit the timer. When I wired it, I had to find the white wire in my junction box since the timer connects to three wires (white, black, and blue) vs only two with my old toggle switch. The third connection is to allow the timer to be powered when the light is off. I also connected the existing ground wire to the metal mounting bracket on the timer. Don't know if that was necessary since it was not mentioned in the timer instructions but I did it just to be safe. I bought the timer directly from Smarthome since they had a discount running at the time (no pun intended).

We bought this to correct an error we made during new house construction. We have eight outdoor lights on the front of the house that are divided into two circuits. One circuit, by the driveway, is wired to a day/night motion sensor. Don't know what we were thinking at the time, but the other circuit is not. The driveway lights come on automatically at dusk. The other side does not. We've simply been leaving those lights on all the time. Now that the house is finished, it would be too hard to install a day/night motion sensor for those lights.

As a work around, an electrician mentioned that The Home Depot sold a timer switch with a micro controller / clock in it that would turn the lights on / off at sunset / sunrise. That's the first I'd ever heard about such a thing. But before going to the store, I decided to see what you all had to say about these. Glad I did.

Apparently, the stores sell the Levitron brand, which most of you say fail early. So, based on the reviews, I bought this Aube unit instead.

It looks to be a high quality product. The instructions are thorough. This particular unit has a relay in it more on that later. Presumably Honeywell has tested the relay thoroughly because the unit has a 5 year warranty and that relay has to switch on and off at least two times a day, 365 days, for at least 5 years. (Actually, that's not very many cycles for a relay, so 5 years should be no problem.)

Now, don't make the same mistake I did. Aube sells two flavors of this box. This one, for a 3 wire connection, and this one Aube by Honeywell TI034-3W/U Solar Programmable Timer Switch, White for 3 WAY or two wire connections. But this isn't specific enough, and that's were I goofed. (But a happy ending.)

See, our electrician wired our lights as a 3 way. Now, right on the Aube package, so you can see it before you open it, Aube warns you that you must have 3 wires going to your existing switch to use this particular unit. (If you don't, they refer you to their other flavor, above.) So I dutifully checked our switch before opening the package.

There were indeed 3 wires going to our existing switch. That's because 3 WAY switches use 3 wires too! BUT that's not the same as what this unit expects. As another reviewer found, and as the product description says, this unit requires line, neutral and load. Fortunately for me, I'm an Electrical Engineer and also fortunately, our electrician had brought neutral down to the junction box. So I was able to figure this out and make this unit play in our situation despite the confusion. (I also bypassed the other 3 way switch. Once this timer is installed, there's no need to control the lights from another location.) It turns out I'd rather have this switch anyway, so maybe this was fortuitous.

See, this unit uses a relay. The other flavor Aube by Honeywell TI034-3W/U Solar Programmable Timer Switch, White uses a solid state device, a DIAC, instead of a relay. One implication of a relay is that, unlike DIAC's, there is no problem powering fluorescent bulbs (CFL's included) nor any worries about electronic ballasts. No minimum current required to keep the circuit "pulled in" as we say. You see a lot of concerns about this with motion sensors that use DIAC technology. See the 1 star reviews here Heath Zenith SL-6105-WH Motion Activated Wall Switch for example.

Also, DIAC's aren't as "short" tolerant as relays. We have a Hunter ceiling fan that uses a DIAC to control the light kit. I've had to replace the unit twice now. Every time an incandescent bulb blows out, the current spike (flash!) burns out the DIAC. I'm not saying this will happen with the Aube, but I've had trouble before. I know it's "old school," but I prefer relay based units. (Unless you use H-MOS.) This unit can handle 2400 Watts, a lot more than its solid state counterpart can handle.

So, a little confusion over the package warning about 3 wires, but once past that, I'm happy. The unit has only been installed for a few days now so I can't report on its longevity at this time. But I'm happy so far.

I'd installed three Intermatic solar timers from Home Depot and had to uninstall and throw them all away within a year or two. Unfortunately, the big-box stores only sell the Intermatic ones. Despite the digital display, they have a mechanical movement that always breaks.

The Aube timers are all-electronic. They work and keep on working. The onlky downside I know is that they're a little complicated to set up, but it's worth it for a product that works as advertised, without trouble.

Easy install. FOrtunately I had 3 wires and not two. If you do have two wires to this timer it will not work or require some fancy wiring.

Using GPS coordinates to set your location is a bit odd, but works perfectly.

Much preferred over the Intermatic I bought at the Orange big box store. I went through 2 of those timers in 2 years. Their issue is they still use a mechanical switch to flip the switch inside the box. THIS AUBE timer is completely electronic. Look to have it working until I sell the house.

I also use a 40W CFL light.

Just the thing that I was looking for. Very easy programming. You enter the latitude and longitude, set up the current time and feed the time when you want to switch on and off. It takes care of the rest.

By default, after the initial settings (latitude, longitude & clock), it is set up to switch on at sunset and switch off at sunrise. But, you can easily change the programming to, say, switch on at sunset; switch off at 10pm and again switch on at 4am, switch off at sunrise. It allows two sets of switch on and off setting (ON1-OFF1-ON2-OFF2). If you leave OFF1 and ON2 as blank, it uses ON1 and OFF2. I have mine set up to switch on at sunset and switch off at 10pm. Works like a charm.

To make minor adjustments on the sunset/sunrise time, you can enter a slightly different longitude. For example, I wanted the unit to switch on about 10 minutes after sunset, so I entered a longitude 3 degrees west of where I am.

You can do a manual override any time by pressing the lid down. If you press it down for 3 seconds, the unit goes to manual mode.

There are a couple of notes:-

1. You need the black and white wires at the swich box to install it.

2. You have to manually switch the unit to daylight savings mode and back.

We purchased this heater two years ago and liked it so well we have purchased three more. It is sturdy, well-built (with a cast aluminum element--no thin metal to make noise), and unobtrusive. It is absolutely silent. None of our units has ever made noise. Granted, it has no fan and works by convection only, but having a room heater without the fan noise or the incessant clunking is wonderful. We use ours as bedroom heaters and they work perfectly. Think of this heater as a small, supplemental baseboard heater.

It has no fans to distribute the heat, and it does not produce a large amount of heat (though the top grill gets hot enough that you cannot touch it for more than about 2 seconds, before you would feel the need to withdraw your hand).

In spite of that, I am pleased with this product, and I will tell you why:

I only needed to heat up a very small area... within about four feet of the heater... by about 5 degrees more than the ambient room temperature... to make the area around a personal office / computer work station more cozy on winter mornings.

It is able to do that... and unlike the vast majority of personal space heaters on the market... it is DEAD SILENT. No fans... and no periodic clunking / clicking / pinging noises.

If you only need to heat up a very small area (like around your desk), and you require not just "quiet operation" but indeed "absolutely silent operation"... this is an excellent choice.

If you are seeking to warm-up an entire bedroom... no... this is not what you want... you need a heater that has fans to distribute the heat around the room more efficiently... and yes, that is going to make at least a little bit of noise.

So I do recommend this item... but again... only for warming up a very small area of "personal space" in an environment where absolutely silent operation is preferred. Within those limitations... this product is a good choice.

this heater worked for 3 months september through november it simply and mysteriously stopped working it was not used daily i only used it a few days out of each week in my studio i do not recommend this product
