This was delivered faster than promised and installed in minutes.

I am using this in a non-standard fashion, but it has already paid for itself in energy savings.

This appears to be a reasonable product to operate a circulating pump on a household heating system. As yet, I have not revisited the site where this is installed, but the customer has not registered any complaints.

I use it to control a circulating pump from my water heater so I don't have to run a couple of gallons of water down the drain before the hot water gets to the shower. It keeps the pump from running all the time.

Snapped it on the pipe, hooked up the wires and it works fine. Couldn't be easier.

For all the users who have had this fail. There is a minor "flaw" with this product, but failure can be avoided easily.

There is a thermal fuse in the product located near the side of the device. You should maintain 10 inches of clearance around all sides (no towels, etc.) to prevent the thermal fuse from overheating causes the device to "fail". This fuse is intentionally sensitive to avoid the product from causing a fire.

(Ideal design would have been a resettable PTC fuse, but this would increase cost).

The temperature control is from a bimetallic switch whose tension is controlled by a screw connected to the knob. Internals are well built and mounted, albeit simple. Appropriate heat shielding is used.

Otherwise don't expect magic. I purchased this for a sous vide and intentionally chose a simple cheap product. However caveats for users expecting fast temperature response: while it heats very quickly, it cools very slowly. (I did not rely on the thermostat to control the temperature, the included thermostat only very roughly controls the temperature and allows it to fluctuate wildly.)

Edit 9/10/2012

So far no issues, fairly constant use. For users wondering I find it draws around 8 Amps (max amperage). A 6 Amp breaker will trip when running this device (I would size all wiring for 15 Amps, but that's just me).

Also the top surface is very heavy, which causes it to hold a great deal of heat if you are building a sous vide I would try to maintain the temperature of the surface to your desired temperature. (eg place your thermocouple near the bottom of the pot, I let mine touch the bottom).

Edit 12/13/2012

Note: Your mileage may vary: the HIGH temperature setting does still regulate the temperature. Aka setting it on HIGH isn't going to just cause it to be constantly powered. This I don't mind. If it were to be constantly powered it would without doubt blow the thermal fuse, and with my PID controller it doesn't really affect anything.

I don't usually write reviews of products, but when I saw the overwhelmingly negative reviews this product has received, I had to speak up. I've had one of these for several years, and it's been working -and still works -flawlessly. I use it mostly for keeping a pot of tea at the temperature I like throughout the day, and I'm quite pleased with how well I can control the temperature of the hot plate.

The heating plate is cast -something, and it holds heat well. It does everything I want it to do exactly as I want it to do it, and the price is pleasantly modest. What more could I want? I don't know what planet these other folks are on, but the reason I returned to this product page is to buy a second one for my office!

people dont usually write these reviews unless they have a problem with the product and want to warn other potential buyers.

i've been using this thing for well over a year now and it hasnt let me down one bit. its durable and requires no special care, just turn it on and set it to the level you want and let it do its thing. its reliable, quick, effortless and i use it nearly every day.

Honest reviews on Aroma Hot Plates

I ordered several different hot plate single burner cookers to see which one I liked best, and this one won. It's sturdy and heavy.. and unlike all the others, it can be CLEANED....which greatly prolongs its life..Impossible to clean the others... so they get tossed after a few months. Some of the cheaper models didn't heat properly after a while, and even became an electrical hazard so had to be discarded. This one seems to be a better made unit.

The control settings are accurate, and nice to have 3 cook settings, plus a 4th 'warm' setting.

Although it appears to be a great product for the first couple of months... when it's done.. it's done! It simply STOPPED working after 2 months. If you purchase this item, be certain you purchase the small appliance replacement warranty from Amazon.. because the manufacturer certainly will not replace it!

Cheap Robertshaw 9020i Remote Indoor Sensor

Robertshaw 9020i Remote Indoor Sensor
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

A previous reviewer said it senses the temperature from a remote location. I would like to add that it activates the main thermostat as well from this remote location.

I have several rentals and I use this in conjunction with the 9851i thermostat. I pay the heat. I can mount the temp sensor in an apartment, then mount the thermostat in the basement where tenants do NOT have access. I can see the temp in the apt without ever having to disturb the tenants then make adjustments from the basement accordingly.

The sensor uses cheap doorbell wire to send signal to the main thermo.

I also use three of these in a three plex, one in each apt. connected to a rotary three position switch next to the thermostat. If a particular tenant thinks its cute to leave a window open in the middle of the winter and unnecessarily trigger heat from the furnace...then I switch the switch to a different apt to another sensor of a tenant who keeps their windows closed. The offending tenant no longer triggers the furnace, but instead gets cold till they shut their darn window. And the other tenants do not burn up because the furnace is running too much from the cold air hitting it from the dummies apt....plus I save money.

Every year I get different tenants with different heat/cold sensitivities, so being able to easily switch which apt controls the furnace at any given time...is a major victory for me.

BTW... a lot of Landlords are too cheap to pay the heat. I actually make MORE money that way, as I am able to charge the higher rents associated with a heat included unit. Controlling the usage is the key!

My tenants are never cold. I keep it at a temp that everyone is happy and use dampers in the basement ducts to direct more flow to apts where the tenants are cold sensitive, and direct less to those that like it a bit colder.

Control and distribution.

14 years as a landlord with not ONE eviction. How did I get so darn lucky?

Senses temperature pretty accurately and when used in conjunction with a RobertShaw programmable thermostat, it provides remote readings from a different location.

Review of Sunbeam Ceramic Heater for Small Room

Sunbeam Ceramic Heater for Small Room

I'm a bit of an expert on electric heaters, as I've owned over 200 rental properties and often heat the vacant ones (to prevent freeze damage) with portable electric heaters, rather than turning on gas to the property and firing up the furnace. I ALSO moved INTO a foreclosed home 3 years ago (I live near the US border with Canada) and the home's oil furnace was shot. As much experience as I had with heating rentals with portable electric heaters, I decided to "temporarily" heat my own home that way until I got around to investing in a new furnace. Well...that was 3 years ago and I'm still heating my home with 5 plug-in, electric heaters...because they've worked well enough that a central furnace still hasn't made it to the top of my priority list. I have owned probably 30 different electric heaters, and early on, I figured most were about the same. Boy was I wrong! Price, quality and effectiveness varies as much as it does when buying a new car! The same power consumption DOES NOT equal the same heat output, and while some heaters last for years and years, working 24/7 during the winter, some brands/models routinely break after a few months of working long hours. This heater is one of the top 3 best I've ever owned, and possibly the best FOR THE MONEY. It's as light-weight and easy to move around as as a jumbo-sized cup of coffee, it puts out more heat than I can BELIEVE for such a small unit, it heats one of my 15x15 rooms to 70 degrees when it is 15 degrees outside, and it hasn't broken, frozen-up, stalled, malfunctioned in ANY way yet! The fan noise is a MILD annoyance, but as another review cited, it is a very soft, consistent, non-offensive "white noise" which some might view as a positive. Great value, great product. No fancy digital readouts or super-accurate "set-the-temperature-you-want-and-go" but if you're looking for a tiny, light, dependable, MONSTER of a heat-producer, this IS your heater. By the way, I have NOTHING to gain from singing this product's praises. I just wish I had read a review like this before wasting my money on so many of the garbage units I've bought.

I just got one of these and it's about as basic as such a product can be. Safety was a significant factor for me I don't want any product that gets glowing hot, so I looked into ceramic heaters with overheating protection.

This ceramic heater works, and puts out a significant quantity of heat. The low power setting uses 1000W to avoid tripping circuit breakers. The high power setting uses 1500W. The "thermostat" just controls the duty cycle (heater turns itself on/off frequently; the lower the setting, the more time the heater is "off")

My only complaint is that the fan is a little loud. Not terribly loud, but certainly audible. Perhaps a larger unit with the same power rating might be quieter.

Best Deals on Sunbeam Ceramic Heater for Small Room

I purchased this item mainly because of the cost (note: I didn't buy this on Amazon.com for a change; found it 1/2 price in-store at a big-box store).

It does the trick as my workspace (approx. 8 x 12 ft.) is colder than the rest of the office. The heater's low setting is ample to heat my feet when I place it under my desk. The high setting is sufficiently heats my office. The heater blows warm/hot air instantly. Good for the price.

Honest reviews on Sunbeam Ceramic Heater for Small Room

On a chilly night, I turn this on and close the door. It cut my heating bill in half. On the few coldest winter nights of the season, it isn't enough. You may need two or three depending on how cold your winters are. You can set the thermostat so that it will shut itself off when it gets warm enough. A ceramic heater heats a whole room evenly like central heat. I got mine at a department store for about $20.

I picked one of these little heaters up at Walmart for $12. I think they might have been slightly more during the dead of winter but not much. It does a pretty good job at heating a small room and is quieter than a big window unit that costs a lot more to run. Now I'll just have to see how long it lasts.

I have bought two of these Frigidaire Window Units. It starts cooling immediately. It can be set as low as 60 degrees, has a remote control, and it will cool several rooms. Love this AC! I have also bought a smaller one for another room. I highly recommend this AC unit! It really is icy cold!! Memphis is hot and humid. It has already hit 100 several days in a row. This one unit is all we have right now for 4 rooms and our hallway. We are very comfortable, even will the sweltering heat outside. It blows very hard, and very cold. If you are looking for a powerful AC, this is the one.

I have two of these units in my 3200 square foot top floor loft (which always gets the hottest) with 15 foot high ceilings, and they are FANTASTIC! They start cooling almost immediately, even in the middle of a 95 degree heat wave. Very nice looking units as well, I like the fact that the remote control shows you the ambient room temperature even when the unit is not on. Very easy to install, I did it myself (I am a 120 pound woman) and only needed the hubby to help lift the unit to the window after I had put in the sleeve. The hardware provided is very secure, I have no fears whatsoever of the unit coming out of the window. Shop around though for the best price with shipping and tax (if any). Also do your research and make sure you have the proper outlet for this unit and your window can accommodate it.

We don't have a very big home and this air conditioner works well to cool down 2/3's of our home (the other 1/3 is shut off and has an air conditioner of its own). I highly recommend it if you have about 1000-1100 sq/ft to cool.

Honest reviews on Frigidaire FRA256ST2 25,000/24,700 Window-Mounted Heavy Duty Room

First we bought a 24,500 btu LG a/c from Amazon and it arrived with a broken fan and sounded like a 747 when the compressor kicked in. Amazon took it back and we order the Frigidaire model. This unit is AWESOME! It's quiet, and cools great. Our living room area is 1,600 sq. ft and has 17ft. ceilings. The sleep mode is great and the unit has been going 24/7. Although it is a window unit we installed it in our existing wall frame without any problems.

we havent had an airconditioner for a long time but each year it seems to get hotter or we get older. this year i couldnt stand it and we bought this frigidaire, we wall mounted it , as soon as we finished putting it in it got cooler, but last weekend it was around 95 degrees and about 95% humidity it was terrible so we used it, it cooled the 3 rooms closest to it great we had it set about 74degrees the other rooms were ok but if i had wanted to cool them i could have just by changing the temp. i was very pleased.

I just bought this air conditioner for $119.99 from Costco 2 days ago.(I think that it is on sale right now, there are three kinds of air conditioners in Costco now, this one is the smallest one which I can carry). Last night, it cools down the living room(inluding the kichen) and my bedroom. I thought that I just need a small blanket. But this air conditioner seems powerful and I covered myself with down comforter later. This air conditioner is relatively quiet(I am really sensitive to noise), so for some(most) people, this one is probably really quiet. I like its' size and weight because I lift it up and set all things up all by myself( female, thin) with no problem. Easy install, :) Overall, until now, I am satisfied with this one.

This unit beats the pants off the others Ive had. All the previous window units by Goldstar Ive had failed in about 2 seasons usually, they suddenly stop cooling and it's likely an electronics issue.

But this DANBY, wow! first thing I noticed was it puts out a hurricane of air that is much stronger than any other unit Ive owned, and it pumps out the cold air.

Im packing it away soon after it's 2nd season of use.

My 1930 house is about 1100 sq ft with R100 insulation in the attic, about R24 in the walls, and this one unit keeps the ENTIRE house around 72-74 degrees when it's over 90 outside and humidity around 90%, that is very impressive for even a 10,000 BTU a/c to do, and this one does it with 5200 BTU, so if you use this in a smaller room than my entire house, you can be sure you'll need to turn it to "low" or go with a smaller model than you are replacing i.e if you NOW have like 6000 BTU or something, this 5200 will be better.

Best Deals on Danby 5,200 BTU Compact Window Air Conditioner with Digital

What a nice surprise this air conditioner is! I just bought it at Costco for $119, and there is a $30 rebate from the power company because it is energy star rated. This has every feature I could possibly want and it is quiet. I am tempted to get another one for my kitchen, which gets terribly hot. This is a great buy and I strongly recommend it. Initially I hesitated because I never heard of this company, but a 5000 BTU that is energy star rated, has an economy setting and a remote for this kind of money??? I went for it. Costco is great for things like this,if you don't like it for any reason, even after a long time, they will take it back. You have nothing to lose and coolness to gain!

Honest reviews on Danby 5,200 BTU Compact Window Air Conditioner with Digital

I installed the Danby AC unit a month ago and only have good things to say so far other than the price.

The Danby is replacing a 6000 BTU Frigidaire and it keeps my 15' x 15' bedroom just as cold. The roof is dark grey and the sun is beating on the room from 12:00-1:00 till sunset.

The best feature for me is how quiet it runs on the coldest setting and fan on high. I only have to raise the volume on my TV about 10 percent higher than normal to hear it clearly. When the Frigidaire was on its coldest setting I had to raise the volume 30 percent or more to hear the TV.

I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend to anyone..

Boy this unit really kicks power. We have two and found ourselves commonly only needing to use 1. When used in the master suite, we were constantly turning it down because the room always got 2 cold. The other one cooled off the rest of the house just fine. Our place is about 1300 sq ft. This thing is small, easy to install yet very powerful. Oh and it's very quiet. I would definitely purchase again if I had to.

This is a good general purpose line voltage cooling thermostat. The good news is the deadband. Many of the line voltage thermostats very 8, 10, or more degrees between on and off. I'm using this thermostat to operate an exhaust fan used to cool a small data closet. Temperature control needs to be reasonably tight. This unit lists +/3 degrees sensitivity and my experience seems to indicate a deadband of about 4 degrees which is acceptable for what I'm doing. It uses a microswitch with bi-metal actuation and therefore is not affected by orientation (doesn't need to be exactly level). The readout temperature indicator is pretty cheap and I doubt it is very accurate but the setpoint knob seems to be right on. Works well.
