Both bathrooms use Broan (same as Nutone) overhead light/fan/heater assemblies and a triple switch. The heater is either on full blast or completely off, as designed. Adding this line-voltage thermostat improves the temperature control considerably. Most line-voltage thermostats I found work on 240 volts; this one works on 120 volts as well. Unusually, it has a pull-on, push-off switch as part of the temperature control knob. It happens that I already have a switch, but if you're replacing a heater switch, this device will serve both on/off switch and temperature control functions. It comes with both Fahrenheit and Celsius (if you're one of those misguided people) marking rings. It's quite accurate and doesn't generate radio noise. Interrupts only the hot lead; no neutral or ground wires are required. Fits in a single box, sticking out less than 1/2 inch. The color is closest to light almond neither white nor ivory. I just ordered another one for the second bathroom.

Honeywell RTH2300B1012/A 5-2 Day Programmable Thermostat Review

I had a really basic thermostat that I was replacing. One of the round ones with the mercury switch inside. (Made by Honeywell, I might add). Once removed, just two wires came out of the wall. When you touch the two wires together, the furnace comes on, and when you keep them apart the furnace is off. Couldn't be simpler.
But can you imagine that this thermostat doesn't have instructions for that scenario? I was able to Google instructions eventually, but it is ridiculous that it describes what to do if you have 5 different colored wires but not what to do if you have only two. By the way, what you had to do was remove a jumper and attach your two wires to the RIGHT two posts. After that the thermostat works fine, but it was unnecessarily complicated for such a simple use case.
I bought my house with an 80% efficiency gas heater installed (Trane, around 7 years old), but no air conditioning. Around a month ago, I had air conditioning installed (Carrier). The non-programmable thermostat became a bit annoying because it got too hot during the day and too cold at night, depending which direction I changed the temperature.
I took a look at the old White-Rodgers thermostat and had the following connections: white to W, red to RH, a red jumper from RH to RC, blue to C, green to G, and yellow to Y. (A very good reference for what those all mean is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programmable_thermostat.)
The Honeywell unit does not have an RH terminal, only an R and an RC. I assume R, RH, and RC are all the same (at least in this situation), but not wanting to start a fire or something, I called the customer support number and was incredibly surprised to find that the person I spoke with was actually able to help me.
Turns out--and please don't blame me if it breaks your system--that red goes to R on the new unit and the jumper between R and RC (there by default) remains in place.
Minor annoyance: the Honeywell *requires* batteries. The White-Rodgers unit operated without batteries (the person I spoke to told me the blue wire, C, supplies power). Since the Honeywell doesn't take a C connection, it must run on batteries. (Hopefully they last a couple of months at least.)
My final connections: white to W, red to R, jumper from R to RC, green to G, and yellow to Y.
One more minor annoyance: you'll need an incredibly tiny flathead screwdriver to tighten the terminal connections. If you have an eyeglass screwdriver or similar (and know where it is), you'll be fine.
Otherwise, I'm very happy with the unit and Honeywell's phone support.

This thermostat was a good price, had decent ratings, and had the features I wanted. So far, it's done everything I need it to. I'm not sure if I'd agree that it's as simple to program as other people have said. I figured it out, but it seems like it could still be confusing to people. If you never figured out how to make your VCR stop flashing 12:00, this may still be tricky for you. I bought this as a replacement for an older model honeywell programmable thermostat that had batteries that expired that made the unit become temperamental (worked most of the time but the readings on the screen kept indicating batteries needing replacement even though new batteries had been installed). This new thermostat was smaller than the unit it was replacing. The new thermostat had more features. When I first installed this unit the old tags on the wires fell off as I removed each wire from the old thermostat so I could not be certain which wire went into which position on the new one. Being a little flustered by losing the wire tags, I skimmed the directions and dig not pay close attention to where the wires connected with the thermostat. I plugged the wires into the back of the unit instead of on the top of the back of the unit. The front of the unit could not be snapped into place because the wires were where the prongs were supposed to be engaged. The wires were larger in diameter than the prongs, enlarging the holes for the prongs to connect. After moving the wires where they were supposed to go and connecting the faceplate in position I could not get the system to turn on. I was not sure whether the wires were in the wrong position or if the prongs were not making contact. After several adjustments, everything started working. The unit works great and was easy to program. We have used it for both air conditioning and heating. Best Honeywell Timer Switch with Sunrise Sunset Single or 3 Way Deals
Like many users of this product, I use programmable timers for all outdoor lighting and several indoor light fixtures to create the "someone is home" appearance. Statistics continually show that most burglars will pick a softer target if they can't be sure the home is unoccupied.
The Honeywell PLS750C is a simple solution for controlled interval lighting with most any type of load including fluorescent lights and small motors. The "small motor" feature was important to me because I use an outdoor receptacle to operate an electric string trimmer. The circuit is shared with outdoor lighting switched with the PLS750C timer.
Never again will my wife be impatiently waiting to depart for vacation while she watches me reprogram 7 timers that were programmed for a previous season with the wrong ON/OFF times. The PLS750C is truly a "set it and forget it" timer with the intuitive menu that prompts the user to enter geographic coordinates to continually adjust for the ever-changing sunrise/sunset times. The 4 hour clock backup is a good tradeoff to eliminate the batteries required by most self-adjusting wall switch timers. If power is lost for more than four hours, it is quick and easy to reset the clock. The user ON/OFF program will remain in memory indefinitely during power outages. One reviewer on another site mentioned a vacation home with frequent outages lasting longer than 4 hours. The inferior battery-backup style timers would probably be the best option in those situations when no one is at the home to reset the clock during extended power outages.
The part number for the non 3-way Honeywell timer is RPLS740B. It took me forever to find the 3-way version because it is not yet listed on the Honeywell website (as of Feb 26, 2012). As mentioned by a previous reviewer, opt for the 3-way version (unless you are intimidated by the extra wires) because it will work fine as a 2-way switch and the cost is the same. You might have a future application for a 3-way timer.
Unless I missed it, I saw no comments about using the timer to switch OFF/ON several times during the nighttime hours of each 24 hour period. I like to program a few OFF periods lasting only 5 or 10 minutes during the nighttime hours to enhance the "someone is home" appearance. By staggering brief OFF periods with different timers you create the illusion that someone is moving room-to-room inside the home.
Though my first two PLS750C timers have been in service only about one week, the clocks are accurate relative to my atomic clock. The Box Store versions of the Intermatic self-adjusting battery backup wall switch timers were poor time keepers, requiring periodic adjusting of 5 or 10 minutes every few months. Some models of the Intermatic self-adjusting wall switch timers were recalled due to a safety hazard associated with replacing the battery. The attractive illuminated LCD screen on the Honeywell PLS750C makes the timer much easier to read than other timers I have used.
I configured a cost calculator comparison chart showing an annual power savings of $112 by replacing only five 60 watt incandescent bulbs with lumen-comparable CFLs programmed to operate dusk to dawn with the Honeywell PLS750C wall switch timers.
I will be ordering several additional Honeywell PLS750C wall switch timers.
Google "Handy Math dot com" for the spiffy power consumption cost calculator if you wish to know precisely what it cost to operate your lights. Over a one-year period use 12 hours for the dusk-to-dawn ON time in the calculator to reflect the changing hours of darkness, or use 4,380 hours per year for each dusk-to-dawn light and you'll have a good number for a realistic average.
Recently, I noticed that the display is off on one of the switches(it seems like it has no power) and there's no way for me to turn on the switch manually. The switch will turn on once it reach the time that I set it to turn on. So it semi-working but it's not good if you want to manually turn on your lights. Few days after, same issue started happening on the other switch as well. The switch has 3 years warranty and since I'm only on my 10month, I should not have no problem getting a replacement, well I was wrong. I called Honeywell technical support and they want to find out how much load does each switch have. Telling them that it's only using 2-15 watts is not enough for them and since I have no idea, I told them I will have to call them back and once I have those information available. After I had my electrician friend checked it, he told me that the issue is not the wiring or load but the switch is defective. I called Honeywell support again this morning, at first, the tech told me that it might be wiring issue but I told them that it has been working for 10months and if it's wiring issue, it would not work from day 1. I also said that the switch is not completely dead since it still turns on when it scheduled to turn on but I just could not manually turn it on since there's no display. At this time, support told me that since this is a professional product, I will need to be transferred to their professional group to perform the troubleshooting and if it need replacement, they will need to install the switch for me. I told him that if they come to my house I'm pretty sure they will charge me for the service. Support said that I will pay for the service but not sure how much. So I told support that I will not waste my time talking to your professional group because I have no intention on paying them to come to my house to install a new switch. I rather buy another similar product and guarantee that it will not cost more than $100.
So be careful when buying this switch, basically its warranty is useless from day 1, unless you're willing to spend more money for their professional group. I just bought the GE digital timer which is less then $30 and it has same functionality as the Honeywell switch.

To give them credit it is relatively easy to get connected to a live person, I called 4 times and each time got to talk to a person within 60 seconds of picking up the phone. However the live person is very obviously in India.... I don't care if he says his name is Chuck or Henry or whatever they are in India and can't do anything except read the prompts on their computer monitor. You would think that that one of the requirements for the person on the phone is that they had at least a basic working knowledge of the product that they are supporting and general wiring and electrical principals. Don't try using logic with these people it's almost comical, the fact that volts x amps = watts was seemingly baffling to them.
Now here is the part that completely frustrated the heck out of me. After calling 4 separate times and each time being instructed to perform certain diagnostics requiring accessing the switch to measure voltage or get a code printed on the back of the switch etc I was told that because this was a 'professional unit' that I needed to get a licensed electrician or installer to come trouble shoot the switch. No where on the box or the paperwork in the box does it say that this switch will not be warranted if installed by a home owner. I very calmly told the person on the phone that I was not paying $100 or more to have an electrician come troubleshoot a switch that could be replaced with one that actually worked for less than half that cost. Again this 'logic' was impossible for the person on the phone to grasp.
So bottom line is this. The product is great, it does exactly what it is advertised to do (when it works), and when it works it works very well in fact I don't think you will find a comparable product for the price. However be prepared to simply toss it in the trash IF it doesn't work.

I don't usually post any review but I'm just so angry with Honeywell that I need to share with other people so they don't make the same mistake by buying this switch. I bought two of these wall switches because of its functionality(sunrise/sunset) and its looks. The setup was so easy until when it stopped working and Honeywell will not give you its warranty without you paying their professional group. Great product IF it works. If you follow the instructions it really is simple to install and to program. Stay calm, stick with the instructions and you'll do fine. I bought two of these units to control my outside lights from dawn to dusk and when they worked they were exactly what I wanted. However after a couple of days they would randomly just shut off, the display would go blank and none of the controls / buttons would do anything. They wouldn't do it at the same time but just randomly and independently. I discovered that if I turned the breaker off for 5 seconds and then turned it back on that they would 'reset' and work again apparently as if nothing had happened. But sure enough within 24 hours or so they would shut off again. I checked the wiring, checked the line voltage etc and nothing helped.So I did what anyone would do and called the Honeywell customer assistance hot line. I was looking for a timer for my exterior lights that would would fit into an existing 3-way setup with CFL's and this worked perfectly. It took a little bit of online research to correlate the included instructions with my existing 3-way wiring but that was a quick exercise.One caution: this unit requires a neutral feed so folks with older wiring will be out of luck.

I have a two wire system that was using an older thermostat that was not digital. My old thermostat wasn't clearly labeled and so it was hard to know what temp I was actually setting it on. This one works perfectly with my two wire system (although I do have to run it off the batteries) and it very accurately sets the temperature and reflects the current temp. This product is very easy to install to replace those old mercury analog thermostats for in-floor heating. Just make sure that you have a 2 wire system. The on/off switch really isn't that important during the coldest months because you set the exact temperature you want and leave it on! No more guessing if the temperature is too warm or too cold. HONEYWELL THM5421R1013 Equipment Interface Module Reviews
Works great with my Redlink gateway and thermostat head. Setup takes less than an hour to get everything together, and I have yet to have an issue with connectivity in the 14 months I've had it.
I have it set up with a simple Carrier single-stage gas furnace and conventional A/C, so I don't use any of the advanced features for multi-speed or -stage units, but that just meant there are less wires to hook up, so I'm okay with that!

Although I bought this item from Home Depot, it's still the same product at the same price. I'm so satisfied with it, I want to let others with baseboard heating nightmares to know there is a reasonable solution.
If you have baseboard heat, you probably have trouble maintaining a comfortable temperature without constantly messing with the thermostats.
My old non-programmable termostats (tried 3 different models) were never accurate (off by up to 10 deg) and I had to hang thermometers beside them to keep track.
This product ALWAYS warms the room to the tempurature I set it.
The programmable feature allows me to turn it down at night and during the day.
I can literally set it and forget it.
Also too, with a proper program set, I nolonger have to run it all night and day, using less electricity and saving me money.
And with a push of a button I can turn it up or down, on-the-fly.
The next programmed time will set the temperature back on schedule.
There is a "manual mode" if you prefer the temperature to stay the same throughout the day and night.
I'm planning on buying more of these to put in all my first level rooms.
But at $50 each, I'll change them out one at a time.
(The non-programmable version is around $35.)
Installation is easy and can be done in 5 mins.
Took me less than 10 mins to figure out the 7 day program function and get it the way I wanted.

This Autumn we installed this thermostat in the living room and used the programming features to keep the house at 50f when we are not there. When we are there we us the programming features to keep it at 68f during the day and 60f at night. This device worked so much better than our old dial thermostat. It was MUCH more accurate than the the dial thermostat and kept the temperature much more even.
Despite the increased price of energy, our heating bills this winter were 20% lower than any of the previous three winters, and I attribute a great deal of that savings to this device, its accuracy, and the ability to program it to vary the temperature settings during the day and night.
Installation was very quick after reading the instructions it took about 15 minutes between flipping the breaker off to flipping it back on. I think the hardest part was fitting the wires back into the electrical box (the existing wires were very stiff).
Programming was intuitive, but I'm happy for the instructions on the inside of the door. I'll probably need the reminder if I need to reprogram and I appreciate not having to dig out the little instruction booklet. So far it's been set it and forget it with these thermostats. I did tweak the programming a couple days after installation, but since then I haven't touched them unless I'm especially cold.
Mostly I'm happy that I no longer have to worry about forgetting to turn the heat down especially at night. I'm also happy to have a warm room when I wake up, and a warm kitchen when I go out to make my morning coffee. In the past I would wake up early just to turn on the heat in preparation for my actual wake up.
For the wall radiator I like the throttling feature. On especially cold days and nights it keeps the radiator on at a low level, which alleviates the temperature peaks and valleys (and the one hour warm up time) I used to experience.
For the forced air fan My old thermostat's thermometer was off. It was reading 10 degrees colder than reality, so I could never really tell if the room was cold or if I was just being a baby. The new thermostat's thermometer is accurate (turns out I was just being a baby before). The fan function on the thermostat allows some leeway +/your desired temperature so the fan doesn't cycle. No throttling on the fan function for obvious reasons :)
The one negative, and you may have seen it mentioned before, is the lack of a backlight. It's not the missing backlight itself that's the issue (for me), it's that Honeywell advertised this unit as having one, when in fact it doesn't. I was aware of that when I bought the unit, but Honeywell hasn't updated their literature to reflect this. Meh.
After reading some of the negative reviews, I was hesitant to purchase these units. I don't want to discount anyone else's experience, but I would like to address some of the complaints that have resulted in negative reviews because I think they are unfair and don't represent the quality of the product.
I read all the reviews on Amazon for this thermostat. I also looked up a few more online before deciding to purchase. After reading the reviews and the COMPLETE instruction booklet, this was my experience:
* No sparks
* No explosions
* My forced air fan does not cycle on and off every 5 seconds
* I understood BEFORE I purchased that there would be no backlight.
* I have never once needed a magnifying glass, flash light or pencil tip to make adjustments (as long as the room is lit, I can see the screen fine and the buttons are plenty big for regular finger tip pushing).
I understand these units are a few years old and some of these resources/installation tips may not have been available before. I also understand that there are some lemons that make it out to market. I just don't like seeing a good product dumped on because uninformed buyers or buyers that never bother to read the manual. Give yourself a 1 star review, not the product.
Overall I'm happy with my purchase I saved $8 per unit by ordering from Amazon instead of my local big box, they were very easy to install (by me, someone with very little electrical installation experience), they are one of the few programmable thermostats designed to be installed by DIYers, and I've already felt "comfort" benefits from having programmable thermostats.
I would recommend them to a friend and I'll also be buying more for my house as my budget permits.

Although I bought this item from Home Depot, it's still the same product at the same price. I'm so satisfied with it, I want to let others with baseboard heating nightmares to know there is a reasonable solution.
If you have baseboard heat, you probably have trouble maintaining a comfortable temperature without constantly messing with the thermostats.
My old non-programmable termostats (tried 3 different models) were never accurate (off by up to 10 deg) and I had to hang thermometers beside them to keep track.
This product ALWAYS warms the room to the tempurature I set it.
The programmable feature allows me to turn it down at night and during the day.
I can literally set it and forget it.
Also too, with a proper program set, I nolonger have to run it all night and day, using less electricity and saving me money.
And with a push of a button I can turn it up or down, on-the-fly.
The next programmed time will set the temperature back on schedule.
There is a "manual mode" if you prefer the temperature to stay the same throughout the day and night.
I'm planning on buying more of these to put in all my first level rooms.
But at $50 each, I'll change them out one at a time.

I did my homework and shopped around for thermostats. I wanted a digital one with the ability to program weekdays and weekends. I have minimal experience with wiring let alone electrical. I went to HomeDepot and purchased this very same model for the same price. Decided to buy three as I needed one in each room. If I can install one in the dark with a flashlight while my family was asleep anyone can do it. Just remember to read the instructions to a "T", if you dont and have cadet wall heaters you will find out why when it cycles over and over once you hit the target temp. I made this mistake and read the instructions. Wiring is very easy for this unit, programing was even easier. Dont even have to read the book for that. I've had the unit for about 4 weeks now and love them. I can program each room to what I want, so I dont run it when no one is home and dont have to worry about my roommate leaving it on when they leave since they dont care. I bought two of these units recently one for a standard electric baseboard and one for a forced air electric wall heater (Cadet style). I have been very satisfied with their performance so far.Installation was very quick after reading the instructions it took about 15 minutes between flipping the breaker off to flipping it back on. works perfect on the Geo-thermal system and controls everything, much room to grow. It took me about 2-3 hours to install myself but i worked slow and looked at wiring diagrams to make sure it was done right.
After getting over the initial sticker shock I talked to some heating people that I know and I was recommended this system or a very similar system that was just a variant on the same theme. I looked over all the systems and this one appeared to fit my needs best. I wanted heat, AC, scheduling, internet control, humidity and something that was smart (smart as in wouldn't waste energy getting to set-points too early or late).
I had to add on an outdoor combination temperature and humidity sensor along with an internet connector so this review is for the thermostat with those additional items and the added functionality that they provide.
Here are the high points that save me money. The thermostat knows my house and how long it will take to get the temperature to the set point so it does not waste fuel or electricity heating and cooling for too long. If the heat needs to come on 10 minuets or 50 minuets before the set time the thermostat knows and goes into recovery at the right time. This has allowed me to set my thermostat at 70 in the winter for the times I am awake and in the house and spend $50 to $70 over the dumb thermostat set at 68 all the time. Going on vacation, home from work all day the thermostat has settings for that as well so you can be comfortable if you are home or the heat can be set way down if you are not there. If we go out for the day we can turn the heat down then turn it up remotely from a smart phone with an app, or a web site on a computer ) when we are headed for home.
Installation was easy enough, and the HVAC guys got it with some help from me as they had never installed this type of thermostat before they were a little confused by the fact that the thermostat was actually a small computer at the furnace and not a box on the wall in the living space. I did all the wireless syncing myself and when it was all done everyone was impressed at how well it all worked and how easy it was to install. When I first got this thermostat all programing had to be done on the thermostat, now if you have the web interface you can do scheduling, and adjust humidity set-points either on line or with the app.
