I bought 4 of these oscillating Warmwave heaters and love them. They can quickly concentrate heat on me at my desk or in the kitchen. Therefore, even when they are located in a big room, I don't have to wait for the entire room to heat up. Also, they are much safer than a quartz heater, so I can place one close to me and walk away temporarily.

I bought this heater for my 89 yr old mother, who is always cold when she visits Colorado from her home in Florida. It was bigger than I planned on buying, but is extremely quiet! It also has a thermostat so it turns off when it gets warm enough in her bedroom. She could leave it on overnight without worrying about it getting too hot in her small room while she was sleeping. She was delighted with it.

I wish I read more reviews before purchasing this unit. As I write I'm shivering because even at 4 feet from my chair it is quite cold in my computer room for which I purchased this inefficient unit. It was an impulse buy without doing the necessary work of research. After an hour or two it might take the chill off a room but as far as really warming it up it just pumps out lukewarm air. I borrowed a friends (different brand) this fall and it was so much more effective at warming up the space I was in. Expecting this one to work the same because the price was right was a big mistake.

It works as if half the unit is not turning on. Unfortunately I threw the box away so I'll keep it until I can replace it and then get rid of it.

We live in the mountains and required a backup heater and this is filling the bill.

Quietly heats an average size room, quickly.

Bought this 3 years ago for my baby's room. (the coldest room in the house) It worked great, stores well and this is the 3 winter of using it and it still works great. I am buying another one for my daughter in her basement room. It does well at heating up the whole room (bedroom) I have not used this in bigger open rooms to see how it works however it works great for smaller rooms, has the auto shut off when tipped, and also has the temp control, and shuts off when room is warm. Love this heater!

Received one of these as a gift and have used twice now, doing multiple batches of beef jerky on each use. This product is amazing in that you can make decent jerky in about two hours for the slightly moist type, and in about 4 and a half hours you can have about totally dry jerky the kind you can snap off a piece with your hand. I was amazed about how fast you can make beef jerky with this thing, I was under the false impression that it would at least take overnight not with this thing! I am now looking to expand its capacity of trays, comes with 5 but you can expand to 14 total...

The beef jerky preparation process IS like work, so don't think it is an easy process. There is a reason that the stores get so much money for jerky, but if you are a jerky lover and don't mind some work this could be just the ticket for you! Pay close attention to all the food preparation handling instructions and proper food safety instructions and you will have a great machine for many years.

Tip when making jerky, I learned when making some "pepper" type recently, the drier the jerky, the stronger the pepper flavor, doing the pepper flavor only two hours had much less of a bite. So, it seems the drier the stronger at least on the pepper flavor type enjoy. (Note: on our "pepper" process, we had already cut the pepper mix by half, with the original flavor... but with the 4.5 hour dry time, it was still too peppery for me, wife loved it!)

This is a great item. I use it all the time. We have a small apt. and not alot of storage space. Using this lets me make things small and they take very little space to store. I didn't know anything about dehydrating food before I bought this so I bought a book that will help you if you are just starting out. I learned a lot of do's and don'ts. The food taste sometimes even better when you eat it because it causes the the flavor to intensify. Yum!!! It is very much worth it. The one thing I myself had a problem with is that it doesn't have an on/off switch. I found the answer for that, I put one on the cord. Now I have no problem. :)

This is a great heater if you are a hands on like to fix it to save money like me. Most people throw these heaters away if the caution light comes on thinking its no good anymore. BAD IDEA i just took a vacuum and cleaned the heater out and then under the thermostat control there is a spring that you have to press in on and move the resistor back in its original position. You will hear a *click* that tells you its reset. However if you dont know what you are doing DO NOT TAKE THE HEATER APART. Call customer service. Easx fix for me and a good heater.

The heater works fine for an occasional "I need to heat a very small space quickly" situation. We bought a pair of them to heat our living room (the only room in the house without forced air heat) for the few hours we were in that room. We would alternate using one on one day and then the other one. They had enough power to do the job. However, after about 4-6 weeks of operation, inevitably one of the two would stop working (the caution light would come on and the fan and heater would stop running). We've replaced 3-4 of them since November.

Bottom line: Good heat production. Completely unreliable for anything other than brief, occasional use.

So... I've wavered on this for months. Finally, I decided to see if I could really lay it all to rest. It just doesn't seem that good. So tonight I was cold. I had it on a table top, and I hugged it. I mean... I HUGGED it... I wrapped me and my jacket all around it, touching the face to my body. Then I held my hand ON the face. At 1300w it was easy to do. At 1500w I could hold it there for about a minute before it started to get uncomfortable. I decided to call their support #. They say on their manual in big letters: ATTENTION IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS OR QUESTIONS, EMAIL OR CALL ... BEFORE (underlined) YOU RETURN THIS PRODUCT TO THE STORE WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. I called the 800 #. I quickly reached a pleasant voice who immediately put me on hold. I finally hung up and called back. I reached the same voice. She asked if I wanted support. I said I did. She told me to give her some info and support will call me back in typically 24-48 hours. This is a joke, right? Oh no, she said. OK. I'm done. Back to Freddie's we go.

My thoughts on the sunbeam throw I threw in the trash the day my new soft heat throw came in the mail:

The sunbeam throw has a very few huge stiff cords running through it. The cords are held in place by a few tied strings located more than a foot apart on the throw. These strings are very easily broken leaving the heating cords to move and not heat large portions of the blanket.

The portion of the sunbeam throw that plugged in is located in a most inconvenient place with a too short cord and it is impossible to find or reach the controller. The cord plugs into the middle of one side of the throw about 8 inches from the edge. This leaves about a foot of cord sticking out that, depending on whether you put it on top or bottom. My feet were constantly tangled in the cord or the stiff cord stuck up in my face. Mysteriously sunbeam put the controller on a cord about 3 feet long originating from the plug in site. This configuration necessitates finding the cord, reeling it in, and finding the controller. The sunbeam timer (auto 3 hour off) never worked and the controller is so easy to bump that I was left having to reel it in every time I felt cold or hot and check it.

There is a clip on the controller to supposedly clamp it to an accessible place on the blanket. Because the cord is too short this leaves the only viable location you can clip the cord to the blanket requires the rather large plug to be in the center of your chest. The plug is so large and cord so stiff that this is uncomfortable no matter what you do. I could not remove the sunbeam cord plug from the blanket without breaking it so washing was impossible. Not that I would have trusted it for use after washing it. About 3 months after use the blanket began to heat only in a 1-foot radius around the power plug. The controller also began to be warm or hot whether the blanket was turned on or not.

A friend bought one at the same time I did. I used mine every day, she used hers a few times a month. A few months after mine quit heating hers did the same thing. This seems therefore to be normal poor performance depending on how often you use it.

I have used many heated blankets and heated pads, this by far is the softest, nicest one yet. Most of the lower cost ones are somewhat on the stiff side but this one is soft and smooth as a regular lite blanket. I place this blanket between the top comforter and the flat sheet. My only disappointment is there are several models of this same blanket but with different controllers. What actual controller you receive tells you the features, but unfortunately the product descriptions all show the same controller in the photo, which is the one I received. The Sunbeam website as well as the directions included tells you to pick which controller you have, then the chart tells you if you have the 10-hour cutoff, which I had, the "preheat feature", which I did not, etc. As I type this I see the next review before this one says he has the preheat feature. I saw this same blanket at a Fred Meyers in Seattle with the digital controller that was nicer with the preheat for the same cost for mine. Only other disappointment, as with all blankets and pads, is the stiff uncooperative wiring that has the controller constantly falling off the nightstand. We finally started leaving the controllers on the floor. Overall, the nicest actual blanket itself I have ever had and I would still certainly suggest it.

This absolutely meets our needs. Very soft and lush feeling. Warms up quickly and holds a nice temp at low settings. Only criticism is that it tends to want to 'slide' down off the end of the bed. But if you have a footboard it probably would not happen. As with all electric blankets the controls never want to sit on the night stands so they are facing the bed!

I was disappointed that this model doesn't have the "preheat" function. I was also disappointed that it wasn't as "plush" as the photo would lead one to believe. It does heat the bed quite well. All things considered, it is adequate. That is, it does the job. I neither Not recommend nor do I recommend--you decide!

Overall, I am happy with this air conditioner. It does a good job of cooling my entire 1Bdr apartment (which is about 500 sq. feet). You can set the temperature and set it to Energy Saving mode and it will turn itself on and off as needed. Very nice indeed.

A/C is fairly loud, but not as loud as Kenmore 8000 BTU it has replaced. It doesn't wake me up at night when operating on energy save/low fan setting, so it's tolerable.

Controls are a little bit confusing at first and you should really read the manual to figure out exactly how each mode works. The remote is also a bit of a letdown as it seems to work half the time.

Pros:

Star Energy Certified

Maintains Set Temperature

Cools 1Bdr Apartment

Price

Cons:

Fairly Loud

Confusing Controls

Temperature Display in Fahrenheit Only

I bought this unit for a couple reasons:

For back up air to use with my LP generator in a pwr outage (should pull 740 watts on the generator)

To help cool my bedroom so I can sleep in this heat! I work midnights and my central air is not keeping my bedroom cool enough for me to sleep during the heat of the day. Plus the backgound noise will be a nice sleep machine...

I'm a single female in my mid 50's, and I was able to install this unit by myself in approx. 30 minutes. Granted, I read the instructions ahead of time (downloaded the manual off internet), and had a good plan on how to do it correctly. I'm fairly intelligent & have good common sense and am used to doing things myself, so this might of helped too. My house is only 10yrs old, so no special circumstances to deal with like with a trailer, storm windows, or older home issues. It pretty much just slipped right in like the instructions said. It was a little heavy (50#), but I managed. It naturally tilted downwards (outside) at a proper angle for drainage and I was able to verify this with a level showing 1/3 bubble, as described in the instructions. The only weird thing was I was able to screw the top of the unit & top of the side panels into the bottom of the window, but the way my window frame is, the unit doesn't sit flat on the sill, there is a lip that coveres the bottom of the window, so I cannot screw the bottom of the panels in (holes at wrong angle on bottom of side panels like an "L" shape"). I need to cut a 1x2 piece of board and screw it to the sill, so I can screw the bottom of the side panels down tight. I'll get the that this weekend....as of now, I was able to tuck the side panels into the frame of the window and it is tight enough until I get to it. I cut some memory foam I had left over, and insulated the side panels and it is pretty air tight at this point.

I only use half the house (mstr bed & bath, Kitchen & living room) the rest of the house is guest room, bath & office I rarely use. The central air thermostat is back by the guest bedroom, and set this small unit to 77 in energy-saving mode, and it is keeping my part of the house nice and comfy! The remote control is set to the "I Feel" mode and I set the remote on shelf by my head in the bed, so the unit goes by the temp where the remote is (& my head), not the where the unit is, this is an awesome and clever option that I LOVE! In the energy saving mode, the unit turns on and off as needed. It is quiet enough that it does not wake me while I'm sleeping (this surprised me!), I can easily adjust the temp (if needed) while lying in bed by simply hitting the or + button on the remote contol.

This is one of the smallest 8k units I've seen, so it's easy to move around if needed.

Con's, and it's not a huge deal...is the filter is okay. It's kind of a nylon filter in a plastic frame, that you can take out and vacumme or wash. So I'm going to cut a thin foam "prefilter to put in front of it, to help cut down on dust to keep the air a little cleaner, and the inside of the unit a little cleaner too. The unit does have a "check filter" light on it to remind you to check the filter every month...so that's nice. Also, there is a lot of light that comes thru the vent the air blows thru...and also shows thru the side panels...I don't think it's an opening to the outside, just reflective light. As a day sleeper this was problematic. I like it dark & cold to sleep deep. I cut pieces of memory foam to cover side panels, and then ended up covering the window (and memory foam) with aluminum foil to block out that light. I could not do anything about the vent light (don't want to block the cold air vent). So I guess I'll have to get an eye mask.

I will update this review if I run into any issues with the unit, but it's looking and acting good so far. One of the best things I've purchased on line, and of course... shipping and service was awesome (as usual)!

Bought Unit about 6 weeks ago.

It comfortably cools a 12x20 room that does not close off from other rooms

Runs on standard 15 amp circuits.

This is the only company I could find with a unit that actually shuts off the fan when cooling temperature is reached. It's nice not to have the fan running constantly when the unit is on.

With energy saver the fan also slows when within a degree or two of set temperature, and then shuts down when set temperature is reached.

Fan on high circulates more cold air than our old old 12,000 btu unit

Noise is average, not too bad. Quieter than our old units.

Honest reviews on SoleusAir 8,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner , # SG-WAC-08ESE-C

Bought this unit at our local Menard's. Got the unit unpacked and installed in less than an hour. It is a very good air conditioner it blows out ice cold air anytime the compressor is running, and does a great job of air recirculation when the temperature is satisfied and just the fan is running. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat with no hesitation but if you're going to use this in a bedroom, there are a couple of things you light sleepers need to keep in mind....

This unit is LOUD. Even on the lowest fan settings, this unit is going to keep light sleepers awake for a while until they get used to the noise. Soleus got the EER up so high on this unit by using an oversized condenser and shoving lots and lots of air through it. The result is a loud noisy fan moving lots of air around, which creates lots of motor noise.

2 more drawbacks to this unit they used transparent white styrofoam to separate the evaporator ductwork from the outside, which lets lots and lots of outdoor light thru into the room you're using this unit in. If that wasn't enough, the LED's on the control panel are REALLY BRIGHT and in a dark room, it really lights things up. So, expect this to be a source of significant light if you need a completely dark room to sleep in.

The remote is weird, as are the controls on the unit. The other reviews have it right read the manual before you use this unit you'll be much better off.

So, it's noisy and lights up the room, but it is a great air conditioner. Time will tell if it's reliable.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for SoleusAir 8,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner , # SG-WAC-08ESE-C

I like this unit a lot. The remote works great, and it doesnt vibrate. However, after about two years the blower motor is starting to howl, meaning a bad bearing. I have called the technical support line repeatedly and have emailed. All I want is a replacement motor.

First the support number is only open 9 to 6 pm Pacific time. As soon as you enter #4 for their consumer division, you are immediately sent to voicemail. I left a message, and of course no call back. Emails seem to be facing a similar fate.

If you buy this unit, use it lightly because you will not be able to find anyone to assist if it fails. Go with a Frigidaire or something where you can get parts.

We are so very pleased with our new procon heater. It was easy to install and it is very efficient, and safe. My husband is happy with all the safety features and I am warm. It is ideal at our seasonal cottage by the lake where we have cool temperatures in the 30's. Being so far north in the "Keweenaw", it soon will be time to close up the cottage and move out. This is my second thermostat. I bought this unit to replace the exact same unit that had the touch screen fail. Honeywell will replace it for free under the 5 year warranty, but it needs to be returned by a certified Honeywell installer. The unit will cost $100 to have installed by an installer even though all that needs to be done now is pop into the same bracket on the wall, so I am doing this myself and keeping the original as a spare. It seems this is a common issue with the unit that Honeywell should honor as a return by the customer rather than a certified installer. It certainly is not the installation that has caused this failure but rather a part manufacturer quality defect. This is supposed to be one of the best thermostats they produce (and it was 3 years ago). I am a little disappointed that I had to fork over so much to fix a known issue. At the very least, Honeywell could offer a touchscreen replacement rather than forcing the sale of the complete thermostat. (other vendors offer such a solution at a far lower cost)

I like the thermostat, but not the overall quality; therefore I can only give this 3 stars.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Honeywell thermostats are amongst the best available for the home. I got the 9421 thermostat as part of a new heat/air package installation and am very pleased with the choice my installer made. As with many programmable thermostats this thermostat has the ability for individual day settings and two or four periods during the day for wake, leave , return and sleep. Programmable thermostats save a considerable amount of energy vs those with only a single setting. The cost of this thermostat can be recouped several times over during a single cooling season.

One nice feature is the ability to have the thermostat automatically switch between heat and cool. Because of this feature heat and cool set points must be at least 3 degrees Fahrenheit apart. If you don't want this feature, you can opt to switch between heat and cool programs manually.

I have found that compared to other brands of thermostat the Honeywell is *so* much easier to program. One feature that is missing however is a 'cheat sheet' attached to the thermostat itself as one finds on some other thermostats. This means you better keep the manual safe for programming advanced features. Honeywell thermostats automatically change time as a result of daylight savings time. The need to re-program as often is therefore eliminated.

The control panel can be locked out from tampering. Especially nice is that lockout can be set to two different levels. Total lockout, or partial lockout where only current program cycle temperatures can be overridden. Temperatures revert back to program settings when new daytime period occurs.

There are many 'advanced features' available through a special 'hidden' menu option. One such feature I like is the ability to set the thermostat to display time as a 24-hour clock.

The 8000 and 9000 model thermostats share the same basic features and menu controls. Where the 9000 thermostat differs from 8000 models is the addition of extra features such as

Rechargeable lithium backup battery vs 3 AAA alkaline batteries in 8000.

Ventilation Control Home ventilation from 20 minutes up to 180 minutes.

Back-light control Ability to optionally keep back-light on at low light level at all times. 8000 series dim out with no option to leave on.

Ability to switch adaptive intelligent recovery off. 8000 series this feature is always active. (Potential energy savings).

Additional furnace filter reminder settings. There are extra run time set points plus the addition of calendar days.

Restore energy star schedule advanced function.

Outdoor temperature display.

Best Deals on Honeywell TH9421C1004 Visionpro IAQ Thermostat

What a splendid device! As an electrical engineer, I wholeheartedly endorse this product. In my house it now controls the humidifier, the whole-house ventilator -and, more prosaically, the furnace and the air conditioner. That's all from one simple-looking package mounted in the hall, with adjustable backlighting even. I have it set so that it functions as a nightlight, but that's just a byproduct of my not wanting to squint or turn on the hall light to see what the LCD screen says. The menus are simple and natural, and the degree of system control is most gratifying. The homeowner (or his wife) can specify whether the ventilator is permitted to run during sleep time, for just one example.

The installation instructions are written so clearly that even a PhD engineer can do it! Nicely, they are separated into Installer and Homeowner levels, so that the homeowner (or his wife, in this case) can't accidentally screw up the installation's intimate details that don't need day-to-day attention. That's house things like square footage, number of bedrooms, etc. It's also technical items like number and types of heating and cooling units (e.g. fossil fuel, electric, heat pump), ventilator's capacity, whether an outside temperature module is included, at what intervals you want to be alerted that it's time to change the filter or humidifier pad, and a welter of other twiddle-knobs to keep a tech-type happy.

I bought this through Plumbing Planet with the decision based in part on their satisfaction scores with Amazon customers. I give them very high marks in that regard -the package arrived on the stated schedule, and it was most professionally packaged. I liked that they included instructions for the thermostat's return, should I have wished to, and in marked difference to other suppliers, they do not require a RMA, or "return materials authorization". That speaks of confidence in their own products.

I like to shop locally rather than with distant suppliers, and I'll pay a premium to do so. It adds to my local economy, and significantly it keeps in business the folks whom I can go ask questions of and are more motivated to stand behind their product. For this purchase, however, they could not come within my range of $100 over the price I got from Plumbing Planet. PP sold me this unit for less than my local supplier can buy it direct from Honeywell. We are all puzzled, but it is true.

In summary: I am very pleased and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Honest reviews on Honeywell TH9421C1004 Visionpro IAQ Thermostat

This is my second one. The first one lasted about 9 months, then the humidity sensor failed. I inspected the circuit board and it had quite a bit of corrosion. After cleaning some of the corrosion off, some of the functionality which hadn't been working came back to life (such as the backlight & temperature sensing). I could never restore the humidistat, so I bought another one. The new one worked well, except now it doesn't "come to life" on the first touch. You actually have to touch it several times before it lights up and starts responding. This is odd because the first one didn't do this.

One other complaint is that the detailed setting menu has a lot of features in the book which aren't actually in the menu on the device. Some of the settings are things you would expect to be there based on the features of the thermostat. I assume they aren't there because the manual covers more than just this model and other models have additional capability.

One final installation note is that I spent like 10 hours installing this and checking the wiring. I couldn't get the thing to power up and I thought it was a wiring issue. The real issue was that the screen wasn't positioned quite right in the case and I guess it wasn't grounding properly. It became a routine that every time I took it off the wall I had to slap it again my hand to "set" the screen and then put it back on. If I didn't slap it around the screen would not light. Weird, eh?

When working, it's a nice device. Recently I've been comparing the humidity reading to a portable humidistat and there is a 5% difference (the Honeywell is 5% higher). I actually trust the portable unit more than the Honeywell. It's still precise even if it's not acurate so it's ok for me (it is always a 5% difference).

I looked into getting this replaced under warranty and here is the story. You can get it replaced under warranty ONLY IF you have the warranty claimed by one of Honeywell's authorized installers. The unit will then be free to you, but the installer will charge you $100 $150 to install it (if they didn't provide you the first one). So it's kind of a wash if it goes bad. I just bought a new one myself and slapped it on the wall. This isn't a complicated installation, but for a guy to drive out, risk a lot of trouble shooting, and order the part you for....well don't expect it to be free or cheap.

Great thermostat.

However, after 2 years the the right half of the screen froze. The AC repair guy said that this happens frequently. He recommended to be careful and don't use wet fingers. I don't know if that was the actual cause in my case.
