I've had this model (and two other similar DeLonghi heaters) for several years now. First one purchased in 1993. Still use it every season (though it's had a couple of switches and AC plugs replaced). Still puts out lots of heat. Very safe and quiet (only noise is a slight "cracking" sound as the oil inside warms-up). On low heat it can be left on all day and keeps a decent-sized insulated-room comfy in near-zero weather. Should the first one ever quit, I'd gladly purchase another.

I bought this heater several years ago. If the quality is the same, this is an outstanding and safe heater. My house has limited heat and I have used this heater to heat from one to three rooms. I just love it.

There may be better instant read thermometers out there, but this has always done the trick for me, whether it's testing the water in baking bread or quickly finding out whether a roast is done. Its slender needle goes into hunks of meat quickly, and the whole thing is light enough that, if you are concerned that your burgers on the grill are properly cooked, you can easily put this in your pocket as you head to the back yard. Small note of caution for other dummies like me: the dial is under a plastic window, and so the whole thing should not go -inthe oven. For that, you want a meat thermoeter with a glass face.

Everyone talks about how convenient, versatile and simple this little thing is. It's great.

Information you might wonder about, and my coffee method:

Size: It's about the length of a ball-point pen, and comes with a holder that looks like one. The head is about the size of a quarter.

Speed: The needle moves a lot faster than the liquid in a candy thermometer. Instant-read it's not, unless you mean that you can instantly read the temperature after the needle stops moving. But it's still pretty fast, and as you see the needle slow down, you get a pretty good idea of where it's going to stop. Kind of like knowing where you'll stop when you hit the brakes. So, it gets more useful as you get used to it.

Accuracy: I tried it with boiling water, and with an ice-water mix that had been shaken around. It's pretty accurate accurate enough for most uses.

Coffee: I use it mostly for making French pressed coffee. If you put boiling water in coffee grinds, you will likely get a bitter brew. I pick the pot right before it reaches a boil and use this little device to read 205 degrees F. Drop the water into a french press containing coarse grounds, and four minutes later you have excellent coffee. Thanks to this little guy I discovered that eyeballing the water in the kettle is not a good way to figure out the right temperature.

You can keep your bulky & fragile digital readout probes, I'll take a good ol' thearmalcouple any day. I've tried various digitals & EVERY SINGLE ONE stopped working over time(no, not a dead battery). I've had dozens of similar probes as this Taylor model over the years & always lose them before they stop working. The only thing I don't care for is the soft plastic, somewhat bulky sheath. However it does have a notch for recalibrating so needle nose pliers aren't neccisarry.

Honest reviews on Taylor Classic Instant-Read Pocket Thermometer

I am a cook for the US Army, and I have been using Taylor Instant-Read Dial Thermometer's for over 5 years now. It is quick reading, easy to use, and reliable. I would use this thermometer over any of the newer digital ones. Most thermometers as with most things need to be recalibrated. Taylor has supplied a calibration device on the carry case!

On top of all of the great features that the Taylor Analog Thermometer has, its also a bragain. At just $6.99 each you can not beat it!

I would recommend this product to anyone who does any type of cooking. This is ecspecially helpful when cooking Chicken, as you can test all of your piece quickly to make sure that all are done.

I've owned one of these for about a year, and always handled it gently. But the thing is constantly putting itself way out of calibration. One day water boils at 202F (I live in Colorado), the next day it boils at 178F. I keep a wrench in my kitchen so I can always boil a batch of water, calibrate it, and then actually measure what I need to. But that is a huge pain and a waste of energy. Right now it's sitting in a bucket of ice water. This is very special water indeed--it's 12F!

Other than its ability to measure temperature, yeah, it's great.

We are really pleased with our fireplace. It looks great in our living room. We live in a small townhouse, and the fireplace keeps the living room toasty. The heat output begins immediately to move the ceiling fan on it's own, as the heat rises. The furnace now rarely runs. The bedrooms are cool, which is how we like it. We live in South Carolina, so winter nights are cool but not frigid. Our electric bill (furnace is an electric heat exchanger) was less than expected last month. Will continue to evaluate this as the winter progresses. So far, very happy with this purchase.

If you buy a Dimplex product, cross your fingers that nothing breaks because if you have to call their customer service/technical support you are in for wild ride. It will take you about 2 hours on hold to get through to a live rep (who has that luxury??). They'll tell you it's their "busy season" meaning it's wintertime (duh!)

Now, if you're lucky enough to actually get through to a live rep, cross your fingers again that your problem wont require them sending out a rep to fix it, because you will be told to expect a call in one-to-two-days to set up an appointment (they wont give you the number to call yourself, you must wait for the call). But then the call doesn't come and you realize that your only recourse is to call Dimplex. Now your back to going on hold for two hours again.

The good news though is that if your fireplace breaks down in the middle of summer when you don't use it, you'll be able to get right through to one of their reps.

I love my fireplace, it is beautifully made and keeps my living room warm. My heat is in the ceiling so it always seemed cool. Now in the evening I turn the furnace way down and the fireplace keeps the room very comfortable. I highly recommend it. It was very easy for my son and daughter in law to put together, maybe took 1/2 hour and it is beautiful.

Pros: Nice variety of grills, Compact Storage, Temperature Control

Cons: Difficult to Clean, NOT dishwasher safe, Limited Capacity

Best Uses: Snacks, Quick Meals

Beautiful design, temperature controls, one of the very few indoor grills that makes real sandwiches instead of paninis, but it's way too small for much else! Place two sandwiches side by side -that's exactly the size of the grilling surface! As if that weren't bad enough, the grills aren't dishwasher safe! So close and yet not even in the ballpark.

I wanted an appliance that could make waffles and grilled sandwiches this seemed to fit the bill. However, the sandwich plates were too small even for regular grill cheese sandwiches. The button used to open the appliance got stuck on occassion eventually (after 4 months of weekend use) the clasp broke, making the appliance unusable.

Best Deals on Kalorik CC-20575 700-Watt Combination Grill and Sandwich/Waffle

I thought this would be great for its versatility and liked its sleek design but I am quite disappointed. It cooks waffles incredibly slowly even with the temperature dial set to the highest setting. I have used other waffle makers before and this one takes easily 2-3 times as long to cook the waffle. It is not great for grilling sandwiches as it does not have a floating hinge so can only grill the thinnest of sandwiches ...or you have to squish your sandwich into a pancake. I would not recommend it.

I received my order of 5 Honeywell TL8230A1003 Electric Heat Thermostat Line Voltage Digital 7 day programmable thermostats one week after I placed the order. The units arrived well packaged, are solidly built and are much nicer and smaller than they appear onscreen. I had a licensed electrician install all 5 a week ago, replacing my 25-year-old units. The electrician had never seen this particular thermostat before, but because of the straightforward installation guide coupled with his experience, it only took about 20 minutes to install the first unit, and about 15 for each of the remaining 4. Within minutes I had them all programmed!

The Honeywell TL8230A1003 Electric Heat Thermostat Line Voltage Digital 7 day programmable thermostats are incredibly easy to program, and have icons that correspond to different functions (i.e., comfort mode, night mode, away/vacation, manual, etc.). I consider myself to be very "tech-savvy" and don't like to read manuals if I don't have to. With this product, I was able to figure out how to use every function, with minimal time, and without having to study the instructions (which, by the way, is just a front-to-back insert). Further, because they are connected to the heating unit power supply, there are no batteries to change. The only down side to this is that in the event of a power outage, I believe all the programming will need to re-done. Still, it's a minor inconvenience.

The most wonderful thing about these thermostats is the ability to program 4 different times for each day of the week. Though they come pre-programmed, re-programming is completely customizable. For example, for Monday and Tuesday, I can set the three downstairs units to come on at 5AM, go off just before I leave home, come on again an hour before I return and go off again an hour after I go to bed. I set the living room and dining room units to only come on in the evening. For Saturday, I program a totally different set of times, and on Sunday, yet another set of times. The thermostat also has an "On/Off" switch that allows me to turn them off if I don't want the timed setting(s) to come on, as well as a "manual" function that allows me to completely override the programmed setting and increase or decrease the desired temperature. The thermostat is also EXTREMELY QUIET when switching on and off in timed modes, and has a backlighting feature accessible by a long bar-type button on the face of the unit perfect for checking temps in the dark. Each of the setting buttons is made of non-slip rubber so fingers won't accidentally slide off during programming. The buttons are small, though, and there is no backlighting for the buttons. The only caveat is to be careful not to press the "clear" button unless you actually WANT to clear a setting. This button is not in a separate area of the unit, and I inadvertently cleared one of the programmed times.

All in all, I am very satisfied with this product. What a great feeling to wake up in the morning or come home in the evening to a warm home! And the cost savings as a result of being able to use heat only when and where I need it are sure to be another benefit. I'm so pleased with these new thermostats that I've recommended them to two of my neighbors/friends, and I expect that they will purchase new sets within the next couple of weeks!

To summarize,

Pros:

Small and sleek

Easy and quick to install by licensed technician

Easy-to-understand icons

Nice "green-glow" backlight

Fully customizable programming up to 4 time settings for each day of the week

Programming buttons have non-slip surfaces

On/Off switch

Extremely quiet

No batteries to replace ever!

Cons:

No battery backup

Programming buttons are small and not backlit

"Clear" button is not in separate area of the unit

Honeywell purchased Aube, a Canadian manufacturer of thermostats and heating/cooling products, several years ago. This thermostat is a rebranded and upgraded version of one of Aube's products.

I purchased seven of them when we moved into our home in 2003. The installation was truly easy, and I found the programming intuitive. There are some shortcuts built into the programming: for example, if you want the heat to come up at the same time every morning, hold down the "DAY" button and after a few moments you will see all seven days indicated on the screen. Individual alterations per day can be made afterward.

The "adaptive start time" feature means that the thermostat records how long it took to reach its setpoint--if it failed to reach it by the programmed time it starts a little earlier the next time. If it overshot, it will start a little later next time. That makes your living space comfortable at the times you use it, and in practice we just expect the room will be heated when we enter it.

REVISION: It was called to my attention that this thermostat does not drop voltage to the heater in any way. I have revised this paragraph to reflect what I learned from Aube-Honeywell technical support:

The feature that really saves energy is "Proportional Integral Adaptive" control (or "PIA"). Old thermo-couple thermometers are either "on" or "off." Even with various mechanical controls built in, they can't keep the room any closer than 2 degrees warmer or cooler than the temperature you set. This thermostat, by contrast, can "throttle back" the energy going to the baseboard as it approaches the setpoint. It does so by energizing the heater for fractions of a 15 minute interval, rather than simply running until the setpoint is reached. In practical terms, your electric meter spins less often, and the room eases in to the temperature you wanted. A minor drop in temperature results in a "nudge" from the thermostat rather than a full-blast energy assault that's guaranteed to go past the setpoint again.

This thermostat adds on-demand backlighting, which we would have wanted, but otherwise appears identical to the old "TH" model that we have. We've saved (and I've counted) several thousand dollars since we installed these, and I recommend them highly.

Best Deals on HONEYWELL TL8230A1003 Thermostat Electric Heat Digital 7 day

My entire home is 240 volt baseboard heat. I have a thermostat in every room and one in the upstairs hallway (10 zones total) When I purchased the house The original thermostats from the 70's were still there! They were awful no longer accurate and eating electricity since the elements came on full blast whenever the heat kicked on. So far I have bought 5 of these Honeywell thermostats over the past 2 months and installed them in my kitchen, living room and all the upstairs bedrooms. It's nice to be able to program them and forget them. No running around the house trying to remember to turn thermostats on or off. And When they do come on, since the thermostat regulates the amount of power to the elements they don't always come on full blast especially if its just kicking on to maintain temperature. I cant see how this won't save me money in the long run! Eventually I plan on replacing the remaining 5 all with this model. I tossed the idea around of getting the non programmable models for the bathrooms and hallway but for a couple of bucks more you get more features. With the price of gas and oil going up I'm actually doing pretty well with electric heat especially now that I have these new thermostats.

As for the unit itself It easy to install and program and looks very nice on the wall. If your skittish about replacing your old thermostat wire for wire then have an electrician do it. My wiring was very easy to figure out, but I can't guarantee yours will be.

Honest reviews on HONEYWELL TL8230A1003 Thermostat Electric Heat Digital 7 day

I purchased this thermostat to control a Cadet 63314 heater I installed in a cold bathroom in our house. I wanted a programmable unit because, being a bathroom, I didn't need the room to be a constant temperature all day... I wanted it warm in the morning when I got up, and again at night when getting ready for bed. Also, I didn't want the electric bill running up to heat a room I wasn't in for several hours a day.

This is the only programmable line voltage unit I could find, and is does an excellent job. Multiple settings through the day to manage the room temp. for when you want it, and day of the week settings to allow your days to be set differently. Also has a vacation button that you can set for a different temp., without changing any other programming.

Programming was easy, though you will need to refer to the instructions because of the number of options on settings. The preset programming is very good though, so you may not need to adjust anything other than the time and day.

The hardest part of the install was running the wiring. Since this is a line voltage thermostat, you will need to run 240v power to it, then away from it to the heater, which can be a lot of work if you are doing it in a finished room, as I was.

This has made a huge difference in the comfort of the bathroom it was installed in, and I recommend it for anyone who might have, or is installing, a baseboard heater. The electrical savings, plus comfort, made this a big winner for me.

I bought Honeywell thinking they are the best. The unit works fine, but the programming suffers. This has four programmble times per day (good) but only two practical temperature settings (bad). Once set, the two temp settings exist for all occurrences of that setting. For example, say the "economy" temp setting is 65. You might want it 64 during mid-day M-F ("away"), 66 for the same mid-day hours on weekends, and 62 at night. Can't do it; you're stuck with the one setting for every occurrence of "economy" which is typically mid-day and night. You want maximum control to make electric heat as cost-efficient as possible. This unit isn't as robust as my previous Honeywell CT1950 which caught fire. So far, Honeywell isn't scoring big points. Problem is there are not many choices for line thermostats.

We have bought two of these units. Like most everything we have bought from DeLonghi, they work well, and they stand behind their products.

Don't be fooled by some who have posted here, who obviously don't get out much. These are space heaters, small space heaters, good enough for a small bedroom or large bath.

Our Master Bath is on the large size, whirlpool tub, seperate tiled shower, double vanity, etc. This unit works more than well at keeping us toasty, without having to over-heat the rest of the house. We have also used it in our RV, and it works well there as well.

After reading some of the other reviews, I think some of the other purchasers don't understand how convection heating works. Convection heaters don't give a burst of heat, they heat the air in a room, making them ideal for people who will be moving around. They are not a good fit for people who will be seated and want to direct hot air at themselves. They also need some time to heat the air in the room.

These are excellent heaters. We bought two, and loved them so much I just ordered two more. A single unit keeps a 10x15 room nicely warm using the low setting. This despite a bank of very inefficient windows. They are silent, and very energy efficient, since they use the fact that hot air rises to move the air through the heater. They are pretty big, but are very attractive.

Best Deals on DeLonghi HR715 Retro Convection Heater

I bought this heater to heat the 400 sq.ft. second floor of my 100-year-old house. I have hot water radiators that heat the first floor just fine, but the old boiler has a difficult time getting the water all the way up to the second floor so I have used fan style space heaters for years. I decided to upgrade to this convection heater and cannont believe the difference. It heats the entire second floor fairly evenly and does not dry the air like the fan heaters did. It looks nice too, which is a nice added bonus. I would recommend it to anyone looking to supplement their heating system.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi HR715 Retro Convection Heater

I bought this early for winter, didn't need to use until two weeks after purchase. It worked great the first four nites then stopped. Now it won't turn on. I called the seller on day 30 after the ORDER date (not ship date, not received date) asking for an exchange or refund. The rep clucked on the phone about it being thirty days, took my info and promised a call back. A week later, no call back. I can't get through on DeLonghi's number, I'm put straight into a hold queue and after half an hour I hang up. This item is definitely not worth the money, and Polstein's is an equally unreliable seller with zero customer service.

I have a small house and unfortunately a new, expensive powerful, loud forced air gas heat furnace. I had it put in mainly for the air conditioning factor, but soon regretted the blasts of dry hot air last winter. I missed my old hot water radiatior heaters. I stumbled on this by accident. I liked the looks, I know DeLonghi's reputation so I took a chance boaasting to everyone that I would never use my furnace again. And to my surprise, I won't !! lol This is a great looking, quiet, safe little heater and it heats my 450 sq. ft. house well. A nice toasty warm, natural heat, without all the dryness. As the winter progresses and it becomes colder I may need a second heater but as of now it suits me just fine. I have a fireplace that also provides some heat. So my recommendation to those of you despairing over the cost of a furnace system: Forget it. I would have had I know about these !

We moved into our new home 1-1/2 years ago and it came with a builder's grade Honeywell thermostat. There is also a fresh air duct leading into the return air grille area. I wanted to cycle the air about 30% of the time but couldn't do it automatically with the original thermostat.

I ordered this Honeywell TH8321 thermostat and had planned on having an electrican install it. When he was out installing ceiling fans in our house, I asked him to install my new thermostat. He wouldn't touch it, mumbling something about that it would require someone to get into the air handler/furnace and change the wiring.

Well, the next day I looked at the installation instructions and discovered it only required 4 wires to hook up, the same as the old one. So, I took the old one off (after turning off the power) and installed the new one. It took no more than a half hour total. The setup instructions were straight forward and very clear to understand. I turned the power back on and WALA (sp?) and it worked and has ever since.

I like everything about this thermostat. The air cycling, humidity indication, current temp setting and current temp, time, day, etc. It's everything I wanted and more. I did buy the outside temp sensor but haven't hooked it up yet. (The electrician wouldn't touch that either)

This is a do-it-yourself project even though the instructions warn you to have it done by a professional.

In contrast to others, I have found this to be an excellent thermostat. It was easy to install myself and has a lot of great features. It automatically adjusts for high humidity by using the air conditioning system. It drops the set temperature lower to bring the humidity more in line with the level set by the user.

The Intelligent Recovery system is also great. It learns how long it takes to heat/cool your house and, instead of simply turning on at the programmed time, reaches the desired temperature at the desired time.

The only downfall is the short backlight cycle, which isn't a problem if you hardwire the unit since it can be set to keep a reduced backlght level all the time. But if you rely on batteries, as I did, the light turns off until the screen is touched and only stays lit for 8 seconds.

That's certainly no reason to pass on this thermostat, which I bought off the popular online auction site (you know which one) for $80, including shipping.

Best Deals on Honeywell TH8321U1006 Visionpro Universal Programmable Thermostat

I bought this unit as a replacement for my Chronotherm 7-day programmable thermostat, which worked well until one of the pins connecting it to the baseplate gradually shorted out and did not allow the fan circuit to come on anymore. I was glad to see that Honeywell has greatly beefed up the pins connecting the TH8321 to the baseplate, making them much thicker, making for a more solid (and hopefully long-lasting) connection.

This thermostat is a great product overall I especially like the "circulation" feature, which runs the fan randomly, to help keep a more even temperature in my 1-zone house. My only complaint is that the relays are very loud, and make a noticeable whenever the fan, A/C, or aux heat turn on or off. Seems like a major oversight in an otherwise very well-designed product.

Also I was disappointed to learn that I needed to buy a different external temp sensor than my previous Honeywell thermostat (the resistance must be different), but once purchased it is a nice feature to be able to see the external temperature continuously on the backlit screen.

Honest reviews on Honeywell TH8321U1006 Visionpro Universal Programmable Thermostat

I am a semi-retired HVAC contractor who has worked as a installation and service technician, owmer of a 10 person HVAC company and an eight year term as a service manager for a HVAC company. I have had some experience in the field.

1) Honeywell makes (markets) the best thermostats that I have had occasion to use.

2) I own one of these thermostats in a winter home in FL and it does a great job in controlling humidity in the summer as it lowers temperature setpoint when humidity goes above a given setpoint. Humidity is a serious problem in FL.

3) Installation and programming is straight forward and intuitive.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Honeywell TH8321U1006 Visionpro Universal Programmable Thermostat

I have a Trane heat pump system installed with this thermostat with a propane furnace as auxilary heat. I love the way this thermostat works; it's easy to program and is smartly design. Honeywell is a superb company and generally make robust products. When you have a problem though, be prepared to speak with someone in the third world who's probably never touched or seen the thermostat. This is a pain in the neck when you need help and have to ensure an unending set of questions from someone reading from a prepared list.

Be advised... it's easy to install this thermostat incorrectly; particularly if you have a dual heat system like I do. I went through 3 of these thermostats before I finally figured out what was going on. On the first two I let the heating contractor solve the problem (at great expense); when the 3rd one failed I decided to see what was going on for myself.

The first 2 thermostats failed catastrophically. The 1st one displayed the infamous "EE" symbol when you see that the device is toast. The 2nd one lost it's mind and started displaying gibberish on the display also toast. On #3 I got gibberish again. Calls to Honeywell led me on a long and frustrating ordeal manuevering through call centers, but I finally got back to the U.S. and someone who actually knew something about the thermostat (come on Honeywell... can't you really spend a few extra dollars and make it easier on us?!)

The problem I was experiencing was an incorrectly wired outdoor temperature sensor. On a dual heat system the outdoor temperature sensor is needed to let the thermostat know when to go from heat pump to propane. The Honeywell instructions clearly tell you NOT to wire the temperature sensor into the thermostat wiring, but to run separate shielded wiring from the sensor directly to the thermostat. My installer took the easy path and just hooked the temperature sensor to two extra wires in the thermostat cable to save time. Most of the time you'd get away with this, but in my case the thermostat wire crossed a high voltage wire along it's path. The thermostat displays temperature by sending a tiny current down the line to measure the resistance of the temperature sensor. It's imperative that the temperature sensing circuit be free of any stray voltage. Because my thermostat wire was lying next to house wiring, induced voltage was being fed back to the thermostat. These induced voltages will cause this thermostat to fail over time; it's a sensitive device.

The lesson here is to pay close attention to how you heating and electrical contractors handle wiring like this. Any sort of sensing circuit (in my case the temperature sensor) should be run with shielded cable. The other mistake the heating contractor made was placing the temperature sensor inside the heat pump. These sensors should be mounted in a separate box where they can sense ambient conditions and out of the way of the sun which will obviously cause incorrect readings. I took the sensor out of the heat pump and put it in a vented plastic enclosure. They I ran shielded cable and grounded the shield at both ends. I wired the thermostat the correct way and it now performs flawlessly.

So this is a top notch thermostat from an old reliable company. Make sure it's wired correctly and you won't have to waste time talking to uninformed people overseas!!!

If you have a large family to feed like mine, this is the one to get. Can fit lots of chickens and easy to clean, too. Works great indoor or out. No complains and I got my package really fast. Thanks to Access Store, they shipped it the very same day of my purchase.

We bought this heater to replace a vertical, standing quartz heater, because our dogs would get too close to the quartz heater and face it, which is bad for anyone to do. This heater avoids that problem entirely, while warming its surroundings quite handily. We like the ability to customize the distribution pattern of the heat as well as the ability to set the temperature either as a unit or individually, however there was no instruction sheet, so learning how to use the various features had to be learned by trial and error. Nonetheless, this is a well-built system with good design and excellent safety features. The only improvement we would suggest is quieter fans in the units.
