There may be better instant read thermometers out there, but this has always done the trick for me, whether it's testing the water in baking bread or quickly finding out whether a roast is done. Its slender needle goes into hunks of meat quickly, and the whole thing is light enough that, if you are concerned that your burgers on the grill are properly cooked, you can easily put this in your pocket as you head to the back yard. Small note of caution for other dummies like me: the dial is under a plastic window, and so the whole thing should not go -inthe oven. For that, you want a meat thermoeter with a glass face.

Everyone talks about how convenient, versatile and simple this little thing is. It's great.

Information you might wonder about, and my coffee method:

Size: It's about the length of a ball-point pen, and comes with a holder that looks like one. The head is about the size of a quarter.

Speed: The needle moves a lot faster than the liquid in a candy thermometer. Instant-read it's not, unless you mean that you can instantly read the temperature after the needle stops moving. But it's still pretty fast, and as you see the needle slow down, you get a pretty good idea of where it's going to stop. Kind of like knowing where you'll stop when you hit the brakes. So, it gets more useful as you get used to it.

Accuracy: I tried it with boiling water, and with an ice-water mix that had been shaken around. It's pretty accurate accurate enough for most uses.

Coffee: I use it mostly for making French pressed coffee. If you put boiling water in coffee grinds, you will likely get a bitter brew. I pick the pot right before it reaches a boil and use this little device to read 205 degrees F. Drop the water into a french press containing coarse grounds, and four minutes later you have excellent coffee. Thanks to this little guy I discovered that eyeballing the water in the kettle is not a good way to figure out the right temperature.

You can keep your bulky & fragile digital readout probes, I'll take a good ol' thearmalcouple any day. I've tried various digitals & EVERY SINGLE ONE stopped working over time(no, not a dead battery). I've had dozens of similar probes as this Taylor model over the years & always lose them before they stop working. The only thing I don't care for is the soft plastic, somewhat bulky sheath. However it does have a notch for recalibrating so needle nose pliers aren't neccisarry.

Honest reviews on Taylor Classic Instant-Read Pocket Thermometer

I am a cook for the US Army, and I have been using Taylor Instant-Read Dial Thermometer's for over 5 years now. It is quick reading, easy to use, and reliable. I would use this thermometer over any of the newer digital ones. Most thermometers as with most things need to be recalibrated. Taylor has supplied a calibration device on the carry case!

On top of all of the great features that the Taylor Analog Thermometer has, its also a bragain. At just $6.99 each you can not beat it!

I would recommend this product to anyone who does any type of cooking. This is ecspecially helpful when cooking Chicken, as you can test all of your piece quickly to make sure that all are done.

I've owned one of these for about a year, and always handled it gently. But the thing is constantly putting itself way out of calibration. One day water boils at 202F (I live in Colorado), the next day it boils at 178F. I keep a wrench in my kitchen so I can always boil a batch of water, calibrate it, and then actually measure what I need to. But that is a huge pain and a waste of energy. Right now it's sitting in a bucket of ice water. This is very special water indeed--it's 12F!

Other than its ability to measure temperature, yeah, it's great.

this is FSP OEM replacement unit for my old dryer, excellent. I can adjust the MAX. temp on this unit to what I want. Reasonably priced compared to the local appliance store.

My old drier used to run too hot it created a ton of lint, which tells me it was wearing out the clothes prematurely. I checked my thermostat heater and it was working fine. FYI ... the thermostat heater heats up the thermostat, casuses it to trip off the power to the heater and thereby regulates the heat by cycling the heater off. If you set your drier on low heat, then what actually happens is the thermostat heater starts baking the thermostat. I could pop for so many hundreds of dollars for a new drier, but after reading the reviews, who knows what new headaches I will be buying? This adjustible thermostat lets me fine tune the drying heat so I have enough heat to dry, but not so much heat that the clothes get cooked. The lower heat reduces lint, and I suspect reduces electricity usage, as well! Highly recommended.

I am very happy with this product. It makes a wonderful gluten free wrapper. I use it to make lumpia wraps and pancakes for my Mu Shu Pork. It is easy to use and comes with a plastic dipping dish and brush. The dipping dish is made of plastic (not a high grade plastic... but it gets the job done)and has a grove on one side which the crepe maker's handle fits into ensuring you are able to dip it into the batter fully while maintaining a level position. This ensures a nice even and thin layer of batter is placed onto the heated creape maker when dipped. I have tried brushing the batter onto the crepe maker, pouring the batter onto it and then spreading it with the included brush but I have found that dipping works best for me. I will dip the crepe maker for one to two second then lift it up out of the batter keeping the crepe maker facing down for several seconds before flipping it over for the remainder of the required cooking time. It is easy to tell when your crepe is done as the outside edges become dry looking and they easily peel up from the surface. When I am able to lift the free edge around the entire crepe, I pull it off and flip to cook for a half minute on the other side. Using this tool, I can finally make gluten free wrappers which are thin and flexible enough to be filled with a lumpia mix and then deep fried. The completed lumpia comes out looking like its wheat counterpart with a crisp texture. It has been a long processing for me trying to find alternate methods of cooking gluten free which match or exceed their intended goal of the original wheat based prodcut in taste and texture. I would not have been able to master the lumpia wrapper without this electric crepe maker as a tool in my arsenal. I love it!

I used to make great crepes with a domed crepe pan that was used on the stovetop. I've tried several others since I got stuck with an electric stove--supposedly, the stovetop domed ones don't work on electric. The crepes have come out awful, no matter how hard I tried. I got a large electric domed crepe maker and couldn't make it work at all. It had loads of good reviews, and I never got one crepe out of it. Finally gave it to the Sally Army.

When I saw this one, I was hesitant. Everything else had been a disaster--why would this one work? But it does. It's as good as the old "Crepes and Things" one that worked for me before. The crepes are thin, delicate, and nicely browned.

After about 20 years, our venerable Sunbeam crepe maker was due to head to the recycling bin. So we bought this one, on the basis of the reviews. The crepe maker is fine; works well; handles easily. We recommend it. But the batter pan is cheap cheap cheap plastic that doesn't even hold its shape. The maker could spend perhaps $1.00 more and make decent hard-plastic pan that would retain its shape and the product would be much much better. We threw the new pan—it simply was unusable—and kept the old one, from the Sunbeam machine. Otherwise, this product would get 5 stars.

Honest reviews on Electric Crepe Maker with BONUS Silicone Basting Brush

I was surprised at how easy this is to use. The crepes turned out exactly like I expected, nothing sticks, and the mess was minimal. I've used it three times, once with a pancake recipe and twice with a crepe recipe. It's as easy as a waffle maker honestly.

We use in our central Florida enclosed lanai area to take chill off a winter morning. Looks like a more expensive unit except for one small log. A challenge to assemble. A couple pieces required drilling and instructions on which screws to use were not real clear. Tough to line up last few screws. Best buy amongst all reviewed though.

I ordered this thermostat with the remote sensor and was never able to get it recognize the temperature on the remote sensor. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent a new t-state and remote. I could not get these to work even after spending time on the phone with customer service. I send back the 2 remotes and 1 t-stat. It works fine as a t-state EXCEPT the cover latch broke on both so the T-stat has the buttons showing. Great idea terrible execution.

I have a Raytek (RAYMT6) MT6 Mini Temp Infrared Thermometer, which I love, and which seems to be the same thing as the Fluke 62, but for a lot less money. See my review for the MT6, which should be applicable to this item as well. I prefer the look of the Fluke version, but if I can save $35, I'll deal with having one that's black and gray.

Note that when I did some research I found that the ±1% stated in the description is misleading. Fluke's own specifications state that the 1% is only valid between 50-86ºF. The complete specs are:

10ºC to 30ºC (50º F to 86º F): ± 1ºC (2ºF)

Outside 10º C to 30º C (50ºF to 86ºF): ± 1.5ºC (3ºF) or ± 1.5% of reading, whichever is greater.

Below -10ºC (14ºF): ±2ºC (4ºF)

This is still good, but since the 1% is only valid over a 36º range of temperatures that aren't really that interesting, the 1.5% is more realistic.

I bought this to assist me in honing my chocolate tempering skills as regular candy thermometers are such an amazing pain to use, but it ended up improving my cooking even further by alerting me to the fact that the thermostat on my oven was consistently off by nearly 40 degrees. I've no doubt it will come in handy the next time I think I have a fever, find some faulty weatherstriping or suspect an electronic component of overheating, too. It's well-built, accurate and its UI does pretty much everything right by default. My one complaint is that you have to open up the battery compartment to move the tiny little dip switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius--I personally think a recessed bubble switch on the housing would have been a wiser choice.

The package Amazon sent me was DUSTY beyond belief, so I have a feeling they don't sell too many of these, but everything inside the blister pack was in perfect working order.

Honest reviews on AR550 Mini Infrared Thermometer

I purchased this for my business and it has come in handy several times. Its very easy to use and its interesting to know surface temp on just about anything. I pull cable for a living and it helps me to know how hot an area is (such as an atic) before going up there. Fluke is a name I can trust and that was the big reason why I purchased this.

Works good at room & high temps.

Definitely doesn't work as well at below 0 degree F.

Compared with a higher end IR thermometer was within 1 degree F.

Good compact size with nice case.

Outstanding laser & backlight works great!

This heater which I use at the office has been nick-named R2D2 by my office mates (guess why). It is a lot bigger than I thought it would be standing almost 2 feet high. Temperature settings are only in centigrade and the thing turns off before reaching the desired temperature and has to be reset to get it going again. The resetting is an inconvenient process. The timer can only be set for 1 hour intervals. I don't like the damn thing. I might give it away and by another type of more user friendly heater.

This is an relatively expensive fan and it does have the necessary safety features to be allowed by fire code in our office that is a good thing. But the heater will turn off at a certain point and never turn on again. The oscillation features makes it heat up and smell like it is malfunctioning. Also, the fact that the temperature is only in Celsius just makes it confusing and harder to use than it should be. I wish there was a way to convert this.

i love this heater!!! it definately does its job for how small it is.and i love the touch screen and the automatic shut off if it tips over.

Honest reviews on Optimus H-1410 Portable Digital Oscillating Fan Heater

First, the ambient temperature never came even close to what I set (reached 80.2f and it was set at 86.0f). Also, the manual says the fan is supposed to always stay on while the heater turns on and off. The fan turned on and off with the heater. Returned mine for a refund so I can get a better-working one.

Nothing smells or looks like a real fire. However, the looks of this one comes close. We are enjoying it. Installed it in the summer and have been using the fireplace. Love the adjustable features. Just started using the heater and so far so good.

I purchased this as a gift for my wife and went through the instructions step by step in setting it up in an existing fireplace only to find that while it looks great it does not however produce hardly any heat at all. Unless you're standing, not sitting like you would a real fire place, but standing literally directly in front of it and over it you will not feel any heat. I contact the seller and was basically told that, "it was what it was", and I'd have to deal with it. Highly aggravated now since I already went through the not so simple task of trimming it out in order to fit the existing opening, as well as running wires up to the attic and then down behind the wall through to properly mount the thermostat control I now had to undo all I had accomplished in order to package it back up and send it back due to no cooperation or help of any kind from the seller. Amazon however was and usually are easy to deal with on returns. I would NOT recommend this product if you are expecting it to maintain some warmth in a room any bigger than a small bedroom or large closet. But again, we were impressed with it's all around look. So just don't purchase on any grounds to based on using it as a heater.

This device has changed the game for managing temperatures in the house. I have 3 zones and 3 thermostats, and one outdoor gauge. I use either this device or my iPad/iPhones to control my temps, now. The device has worked flawless for a few months.

was easy to install, so easy to understand. I LOVE THIS LINE OF products. Makes house climate control so easy and comfortable.

I use wood heat and have had a problem with the thermostat being in the same room as my stove for several years. The bedrooms in the back were pretty chilly on cold nights due to the thermostat being right by the wood stove. I was dreading having to run new wires to relocate the thermostat but was going to have to do something. Then I stumbled across this. I move it to the living area during the day then at night just take it and set the thermostat on the night stand. No more cold cold nights. New technology is great. Lots faster, easier, and way less messy then having to move the existing thermostat.

Honest reviews on Honeywell REM5000R1001 Portable Comfort Control

This is a great addition to the unit. We often found ourselves having to go back downstairs at night to adjust temperature up or down for comfort, but now the lazy and really sleepy person in me doesn't have to go beyond my nightstand to adjust the temperature comfortably.

Really worth the investment.

Worth noting a few things:

1. Every RedLink device I've purchased (this unit and the gateway from Honeywell via Amazon and the outdoor sensor from an external vendor) have been open boxes. The seal is broken and the packaging is disrupted. I'm not sure if they are all returns or what. Nevertheless, they all seemed to work, though I'm not certain all the instructions have been repackaged.

2. This thing is chunky and somewhat heavier than it looks in the picture. The touch screen is sluggish.

3. When you pop in the batteries, it prompts you to pair it with your thermostat. That's very nice, because the Gateway didn't come with instructions and technical support provided the incorrect info. I only figured out how to connect through scrolling through all the menu options on the thermostat.

4. It works well, but the only thing it offers in addition to the phone or tablet app is that it can sense the local temperature and you then have the option of using this as the sensor the thermostat responds to. If you just want to remotely control your thermostat, the Android and iOS apps work better and you can probably even buy a cheap Android tablet and dedicate it to this job, if you wanted, for about the cost of this unit alone, though the batteries in this device should last for a while.
