In 1983 when I built this house, thermostats were manual, and simple. A new air pump in 2000 meant a new, but still manual, thermostat as I was not offered an alternative. A new heater unit installed in early December came with the suggestion by the installer that I order this unit, and that it was "simple to self-instal." We homeowners have all heard that before, all too often, but in this case, the installer was correct. It took maybe all of ten minutes to take out the old, manual thermostat and, carefully following the wiring guide provided with the unit, install the new unit. More to the point, once installed, with back-up batteries, the programming of the unit was even easier than expected, and took about another 5 minutes. It has been working flawlessly during one of the coldest weeks in decades here in New Jersey, and has provided better control than I have ever had of my heat pump. Recommended more highly than any other "appliance" control I've ever dealt with.

Nice heater, have had mine for four years, Worked fine until igniter went bad but had no problem ordering the part. Hopefully it will fix the problem and it will be up and running again. Price here is much too high, can get same heater for less...shop around.

We already had a programmable thermostat. I purchased this one because it can periodically cycle air through the house by turning on the fan without the air conditioner or furnace. It really helps keep the warmer / colder rooms the same temperature as the rest of the house without increasing the energy bill by much. The one thing I don't like is the temporary temperature adjustment feature. It is easy to adjust the temperature; however, you can only set that temperature for up to 4 hours. I randomly work from home and like to set the temp to 68 all day instead of the 62 when we are away. Other programmable thermostats leave the temporary mode at the next wake, leave, evening, night time. Otherwise I would have given this thermostat 5 stars.

It was difficult to wire and didn't work properly. We purchased it because we like the design of having the buttons hidden behind a little door. Although it looks good on paper, it wasn't when up-close and personal.

We went back to a Honeywell product, which is a snap to wire and use. The buttons aren't hidden, but hey, you can't have everything, and during the winter, having the thermostat work is kind of important...

I bought this to replace the dial honeywell on my hot water baseboard zone. I have old age eyes, so every time I looked at the dial, I couldn't tell what the temperature was, or what the setting was without grabbing reading glasses and a flashlight. The honeywell was off 4 degrees, so when it said it was 66 degrees, it was really 70 degrees. I kind of knew it, but confirmed it with this new thermostat, and an accurate lab thermometer. I like how you can adjust the swing on the temp, from 0.25 degrees, up to 2.25 degrees. It gives you some degree of adjustment depending on whether you want tight temperature range, or less frequent heat/cool cycles. This is the same as the 500U model available at Lowes, which I also purchased. Still waiting on trim plates to be available as the circular honeywells and old chomotherms are just a bit larger, and you'll need a trim plate, or a paint brush. Very easy to program. As others mentioned on the other similar models, when you push the buttons on the front, the backlight comes on with a very high pitched sound barely audible, but it goes away after the backlight dims, in about 5-10 seconds.

This wireless thermometer works extremely well and is easy

to set up but you absolutely must follow the directions exactly.

Range is excellent but just make sure that some large object such

as a metal shed or a large oak tree is not in line-of-sight between

any of the transmitters and the receiver.

I am using 3 of these temp sensors with the 915 MHz receiver. One

sensor came with the receiver, and I just purchased two more, since the

receiver can display up to three different temperatures from three

sensors. However be advised that if you carry one or more of these

sensors out of range and the receiver loses track of it, you absolutely

must take the batteries out of all three sensors and out of the

receiver and re-initialize all of them. This is not a difficult step,

since I did it several times while playing around with the sensors to

see how much range they had which resulted in the receiver losing

track of one of them.

When you first see the instruction booklet that comes with the receiver,

it looks daunting, but not to worry, since only a tiny part of it is in

English, with all the rest in other languages. Once all the temp sensors are

initialized, then it takes only a few seconds to set the clock.

I read in other reviews that some buyers had problems getting their

receiver to respond to some sensors, but that is because the buyers failed

to properly re-initialize their units. Also be advised that if you buy

a display unit that receives transmissions at 915 MHz, then you absolutely

must buy sensors that also transmit at 915 MHz. Several of the sensors

that are sold by Amazon look alike, but not all of them use 915 MHz, so

carefully read the tech specs to make sure that both the transmitter and

the receiver operate at 915 MHz.

This is my second wireless thermometer system in our home. I wanted this one to be placed near my recliner so I could check the temp's without going to the other room. This unit is very accurate and I had no issues with syncronizing the sensors. I also placed a sensor upstairs so I could monitor the guest bedrooms. This unit is a good value and works extremely well. The size of the display is large enough for easy viewing for my older eyes....

I bought a couple of these this last Christmas (2009), one for a gift and one to use myself. I liked the idea of the large read out and the simplicity of the display. Time, inside temp, and outside temp. I didn't see the need for the full blown weather station with the ability to forecast the weather. Somehow I don't think a simple device can do what mankind has struggled with for the last 100 years at least. But I digress...

As stated, the readout is big and clear so that's a plus. It requires little knowledge to set it up correctly. Just follow the included instructions and you'll be up and running in 5 minutes. I've only had it running now for two months but the regular alkaline batteries are holding up well. With the remote set about 80 100 feet away it indicates with a flashing icon that it's receiving the signal fine. So that's all good.

Now the bad. Or maybe I should say "not so good." It's accuracy is questionable to be sure. Even putting the remote right alongside the indoor unit the readings aren't exact. You would think it would be at least +/.5° in that scenario but that's not the case. Mine seemed to wonder +/2° between what the indoor and outdoor readout indicated while sitting right next to each other. Although it seemed to get a little better with time, it never got exact or even within the .5° mark. So I decided to put the remote under the roof edge of the north facing outside wall of the house. About 40 feet (and three walls) away. The first thing I noticed is that it took a very long time for the outside temperature to change. I mean really long. After sitting out there all night I compared the temperature I was getting with the local weather. My thermometer was reading 5°F high. Hmmm.... Went out to my Jeep and checked the temperature on the information center which has always been accurate. It also showed my theremometer as reading 5° high. I assumed it was possible the my house was loosing "some" heat, but if that was the case I needed to do some insulating mighty quick. So anyway, I moved the remote out to my un-attached and un-heated garage. Now it is constantly reading between 6° 18° high! I mean really, 18 degrees off? What's the point? The colder it gets here in Wisconsin the more it's off. Today with the temperature a balmy 27°F outside according to the local weather station, my theremometer says it's 33°F. It seems the warmer it gets the closer it gets to reality.

I was tempted to send it back since a thermometer that is this inaccurate isn't worth the batteries it's discharging, but thought WTH. I didn't pay all that much for it and it's better than nothing, just barely.

I'll have to check with the person I gifted with the other one. I suspect that one isn't any different. I think given the low price this is what one could expect, even though I was hoping for better.

In summary.... The clock is dead on accurate. Readout is big and clear. Hasn't eaten any batteries yet (two months and counting). Range seems fine. Indoor temperature seems about right. The outdoor temperature is slow to react and has a mind of it's own. So yeah, not bad but not great either.

As a tech guy I admit, I really wanted to love this product but about 30 minutes ago I threw it in the trash. As others have said, you must follow the written directions *precisely* to make the thermometer work. However, once you get a reading from the outdoor sensor, the receiver can lose the signal very easily requiring a needlessly complicated reset. Furthermore, it seems almost anything can interrupt the signal from one piece being too close to a solid object (like a wall or a tree) or a metal object between the transmitter and receiver (such as a metal screen on a window or door). This is true even when the transmitter and receiver are less than 3 feet from each other and using fresh batteries. I'm sorry, that is just not an acceptable level of performance. I'm sure the thermometer works wonders in certain, very specific situations but after 8 months of tinkering with all manner of different configurations, I am convinced this product is just not suited to a typical urban environment.

There are better thermometers out there and it's worth while to spend a little more to get one that does what it's supposed to do. Sorry La Crosse, you've lost my business.

I bought this and had a hard time getting the outdoor sensor to work. When I got it working I had it placed right next to the indoor unit. They displayed different temps. Thus not reliable. I put the outdoor unit outside and it worked for about a week. I replaced the batteries and nothing. I returned to Amazon for an exchange. Got the new station and the outdoor sensor didn't work at all. I returned it to Amazon for a complete refund. The only thing I can say positive about all of this is Amazon is great about returns as long as you are within there return policy. I love buying from Amazon I just will not buy this again. I will research other indoor/outdoor units.

The unit works well. I read the hot cold units leaked and did not want one. Hard to find this type of unit. Cold only. It works well; better than my last which had an attachment to add to the bottle before you turned it upside down. This is easy to clean and has no attachment. The price however was double what I paid for my last one at Costco. Hard to find cold only units. I have no hesitation in recommending this if you can afford it.

It worked just fine the first day but stopped working the next. After checking that it was filling with water ect.. we still could not get it to work right sometimes you got water others times it would not . We had to return it. Since it was a gift we ended up replaceing it with one from a store near by.

This is a great basic model thermostat by honeywell. It has a nice clear easy to read display and simple controlls and adjustments. great to replace those old dial or slide thermostats. Great for the workshop. But, in my home, i have the programable version of this thermostat, looks identical to this, and simple to use, and it only cost around $10 more on average than this model.

This is junk. The batteries don't quite fit right, so I continually have to jiggle the batteries to get it to go on...this was after replacing the batteries with new ones several times until I realized it had nothing to do with the batteries, but the poor make of the unit. THEN...tonight was the final straw. Sometimes, it will take a long time to turn on, or will turn off before it gets to the desired heat. Tonight I came home, and although I had the heat set to 70, it never stopped running. When I came home it was 94 degrees in my house! Thank God my dogs had plenty of water because my house was an oven. I have to wonder if I had stayed out later, just how high the temperature would have gotten in my home. I am replacing this with a better one tomorrow, the savings just isn't worth it and now I can't imagine what my electrical bill will be like!

Have had this thermostat for 6 months now and it works fine in regulating the temperature, both A/C and heat.

BUT, to access the controls that allow you to switch from A/C to Heat, you have to remove the plastic face-plate and this is NOT easy to do. It tends to stick, and one could easily pull the whole unit out of the wall. So i recommend removing this cover plate permanently, just leave it off, and you will be fine.

Perhaps some specifics instead of "its real good".

I recently installed and tested both heat and A/C for several cycles, without fail. It took longer than 15 min. to install, but not a lot longer. Any mechanically inclined home owner, use to doing home repairs can do this. It does hold the temperature for heat and cool to 1 degree as advertised. For me this is its greatest feature.

The 3rd piece, very top cover, must be removed/lifted to operate the switches. I trimmed the tabs off the lower edge to allow this cover to lift without effort. Else, repeated use would tear the unit from a sheet rock wall anchor, even a plastic insert anchor.

Perhaps, as other users reported long term use will produce variations in temperature control. I find this hard to believe as an ex-engineer, because solid state electronics do not behave this way. They either malfunction right away or they work for the life of the unit.

Now the serious down side that you can live with. The thermometer, on which the unit senses temperature, is fixed at assembly and can not be calibrated. Ours is off by 2 degrees from 3 other thermometers. But the work around is to simply adjust the temperature set points up by 2 degrees, to match real house temperatures. This is annoying, but I bet other inexpensive models have similar or worse flaws. I know that the Lux unit I purchased last year failed its installation tests after 1 cycle.

These heaters are effective. Yes, you can't place anything in front of them, but unlike the long skinny baseboard heaters, they don't take up so much wall space. They are a little noisy, but they don't have to be on for very long.

I have these heaters in my house and am changing them out for Convect-air. These heaters are VERY expensive to run and as one customer mentioned, they do not put out more heat than a hair dryer. I definetely do not recomend this product

My electrician installed this wall heater and wired it with 220 wiring and I turned it on expecting this forced air heater to heat my 90 cubic ft shower area. After waiting for some 5 minutes for the expected heat my electrician who had his hand near the discharge area exclaimed, " my dog puts out more heat panting than that". I was very disappointed and ask him to try it with 110 wiring. The results were the same. If I stood with my bare feet below the warm air discharge I have to admit my toes were toasty.

I was surprised that Amazon would carry a product of such low quality since I have been very satisfied with the many products I have purchased in the past.

I specifically chose this model due to the fact that it has a two hose exhaust system. The master bedroom where this is installed really doesn't have the room to allow for drainage from a normal system that simply condenses out the moisture from the air. Barring extreme humidity this is as close as you're going to get to a system that requires no condensation drain. Cools extremely well in a 30x20 master bedroom on a top floor with poor a/c circulation. And no fighting with taking it out of the window at the end of the season!

The product claims to work for both stove tops and wood burning stoves. Used it on my stove top to gauge if I had a bad element. Temprature needle would jump up instead of raising smoothly. Let it cool looked closely at back poor coil temp spring design to blame. Tested on my dad's pot belly wood burning stove got same results.
