This model has a number of good features for the price, including the ability to optionally get its power externally (and use the battery only for back-up), the backlit display, easy battery replacement, and the so-called "adaptive intelligent recovery", which means that the thermostat learns how long it takes to raise the temperature by a certain amount, and will start the heater earlier than specified to ensure that the requested temperature is reached at the requested time (this feature may be turned off). The manuals are good and installation is easy.

This thermostat's main flaw, which is common to many thermostats, is that it clicks whenever it turns heat (or cool) on or off. It is aesthetically pleasing, although I wish it were a bit thinner (it's slightly over 1.5" thick). Be aware that although the thermostat is truly 5-1-1 (weekday, Sat, Sun programs), it comes from the factory in 5-2 mode (weekday and week-end programs), which is what most people will want anyhow. The installation manual explains how to change between 5-2 and 5-1-1.

I wanted a programmable for a long time, and moving to a new house was just the push I needed. Installation took me less than an hour, even at my relaxed pace. Operation is simpler than older (>4 years) models I've seen.

Not sure if this is clear in the specs here, but you get 4 "phases" per day. WAKE, LEAVE, RETURN, NIGHT (I made those names up but you get the idea). Also the way these things work is if you set WAKE at 7 AM to be 70F, then the unit will do what it takes to make it 70F by 7 AM, so it starts maybe 15 minutes before the time setpoint and it learns how long it took and adapts.

The FocusPro 6000 is a good thermostat, very easy to program, and with an attractive design. It could be slightly thinner, though at almost 1-1/2" it protrudes a bit too much from the wall.

At any time a programmed temperature can be manually overidden temporarily until the next program phase (e.g. Sleep) kicks in, or permanently until the override is released.

I am, however, annoyed by the clicking sound the thermostat makes when it switches on and off. I replaced an old manual plain vanilla Honeywell thermostat and that didn't use to click. I'll see if I get used to the clicking, I don't rule out looking for a different thermostat just because of this clicking. I've seen some soundproof models on the market.

Honest reviews on Honeywell TH6110D1021 FocusPro Programmable Digital Thermostat

It is a fine programmable thermostat. However, the thermostat depends solely on the batteries it comes with; It is unable to receive power from the heating/cooling system's 24V transformer, unless the existing system has 5 wires rather than the standard 4 wires. So, if batteries run out without the owner noticing it, and the house is left vacant for a length of time in the middle of winter, a crisis may result.

I wanted a unit that had a backlight so I could see what the story was without shining a little flashlight on it. The large display is great also.

I only got this for heating so it was just 2 wires. One of my wires was spliced using a different color but it didn't hurt anything when I initially put it in the wrong slot.

I was surprised to see that you program this unit because it seems to cover all the heating/cooling/fan variations that exist. Easy to do.

Another nice tech advancement is it learning your environment so that it does not short cycle to keep a constant temperature.

Controls are intuitive and you can learn it all in a minute by just playing with it.

We don't sit by the unit so the click other people complain about is not a problem. I don't think it's so loud and I like knowing when it turns on and off. If I know it just turned off and I want to feel warmer, I know to get up and override the schedule.

Nice compact, quiet, and safe heater. Puts out plenty of heat controlled by a thermostat. Auto turn-off if tipped but very stable. Fan can be turned on as well, but doesn't really make much difference, so it can be left off for silent operation. Can't imagine any other heater this size could be a better choice. It's about 3 feet wide, 6 inches thick, and 10 inches high. I haven't gone thru a winter with it yet, but it's obvious the heat it puts out will do the job.

Opened the box, plugged it into a kitchen outlet and waited, waited, waited for the thing to warm up my small kitchen. After two hours, I could touch the unit to warm my hands, but that was about it. Called KAS, only to be told I would be responsible for the shipping costs to return it to them, and it would take 4-6 weeks for them to send another. God Bless Amazon they paid the full return postage for a full refund on the unit.

This unit stopped working the first day of use. It has a shut off mechanism that cannot be reset by the user it needs to be sent back to the factory to be reset, which is more money and time than it is worth. Garbage!

Honest reviews on Honeywell Low Profile Silent Comfort Heater, HZ-617

My experience with this item was wonderful. It was silent and distributed a decent amount of heat. I used it to heat a room that was about 9 x 12. I kept the door closed and the room was toasty.

The only down side is that it died in stages. But for the price I paid and for 4 years of use I would encourage others to get this item.

I got this induction unit about a month ago as education while we ponder a kitchen remodel. I currently have a gas cooktop, with all its pros and cons, but in view of all the positive reviews for induction I had to give it a try. Bottom line up front: It's a keeper, but mostly because I don't think there is an induction burner that's better, not because I'm particularly impressed. I do like the way the heat goes only into the pan and that cleaning the surface is much simpler than getting down under the grate of a gas stove.

I first got the Duxtop equivalent to Mr. Induction, but returned it because I couldn't find a decent simmer with its 10 heating levels. This model has 20 levels, which is much better but still not the continuous control that I'd like. In the "cook" mode, level 1, the lowest, is just above a simmer. In the "temp" mode simmer is easier to find (more about that below), but I'm still not fully happy with the control of induction vs. gas. It would be nice if there were a few levels below the heat level of "1" on this burner. On the other hand, browning onions on the 12-15 range of "cook" is excellent, and 5-7 is a good fit to medium heat called for in recipes.

In the "Temp" mode, 180 F is close to a simmer, 200 F is bubbling well above a simmer, and 170 F shows no bubble at all, much less than a simmer. So, again, I'd like more control around the boiling point in both modes. Perhaps asking that boiling is close to 212 F is being too particular. I'd be happy with the offset if there were finer control around boiling.

Two other points I find to be less than ideal: The heating element is about 3/4-inch off center toward the control panel. This is just annoying to the perfectionist who may prefer the pan centered on the rings on the top surface (see photo), but one wonders how it could happen. Finally, the burner is sitting on a very level counter, but without correction fluids (oil, butter, scrambled eggs) flow toward the back of the pan. Adding a couple of 1/8" thick felt pads to the back legs levels the unit and has the added advantage that it can be easily slid back out of the way when not in use or brought close to the counter edge for cooking by simply picking up the front legs and sliding on the felt pads at the back. The standard rubber feet do not slide on the counter, by design.

Yes, there are many low-temperature setting, perhaps good for melting chocolate, etc. In the "temp" mode there are several settings below boiling, the lowest of which is "90 F." However, the temperature control does not seem to be proportional; the unit appears to be either on or off. I have not accurately measured the temperature overshoot and undershoot while this cycling occurs, but I'll bet it's substantial.

A final note: because the heating appears to happen in a circle of 4.5" diameter, it helps to have pots with thick conductive bases to spread the heat over more of the pan bottom. Cuisinart GreenGourmet Tri-Ply and Zwilling J.A. Henckels Thermolon Spirit cookware do a pretty good job. I'll review these as I get more experience with them and their competitors.

On balance, I'm intrigued by induction, but I hope it can be better than demonstrated by this burner. From what I can glean from induction cooktop ads, most of them do have a limited number of power settings, which limits control. I don't know if any have proportional temperature control. Please reply if you know of any. My remodel will likely have both gas and induction modules if I can find an induction module with continuous heat control and proportional temperature control, but I'm not holding my breath.

Just installed one of these in my John Deere Tractor cab, and am pretty disapointed. I have seen these advertised as both 300 Watts and now Amazon is listing them as only 180 watts???? So am not sure if there is two models of this or not??? I bought it because of the review on here from the guy with the skid steer praising it??? I found mine will take 20 mins to defrost[about a foot square hole NOT the whole thing] the windshield if its ZERO degrees here in Northern Maine. I dont really know what it would be good for???? I would say it would be something that would heat up an area maybe 18"X18" square not the cab of a tractor, that is more like 4ft square. If you think it will heat up a vehicle anything like the vehicle heater, you are going to be very disapointed. As it's output is about 1/10th of that.............. I would not have bought it if I could have pluged one in before I bought!!! Maybe a better way of rating it is that a standard hairdryer[1500wt] will put out atleast times what this does; if you have a 300watt version; the 180watt version, they are selling now, would only put out than a hairdryer. So if you think about how long it would take to heat up the vehicle with a standard hairdryer and then assume it will take 8X longer you can see it is going to take a very LONG TIME!

This heater is a marked improvement over the 12v ceramic defroster type heater (powered by a cigarette lighter receptacle) tha I had installed. The unit wires directly to the battery with thicker gatuge wire. Alternatively, it can be wired to the main bus bar which is the case in my boat. The heater warms the cabin of my BellBoy classic glass cruiser. So, I am pleased with it and would recommend it for similar small-spaced applications.

I liked the size and the features, but the fan is very lacking and without a switch in the circuit the fan's power stays on unless you remove the fuses. All in all it kept me from freezing too much but could have been made a lot better.

Honest reviews on RoadPro RPSL-681 12V Direct Hook-Up Ceramic Heater/Fan with Swivel

I bought this heater because, at the time, it was the best rated car heater on Amazon. The fan barely blew any heat out. I had to keep my hands directly over the heater to feel any heat at all.

After owning this heater for about two months, it caught fire in my Jeep I had to get rid of it. I would not recommend anybody purchase this heater.

I have this unit installed in my Subaru wagon. Forget about getting any heat. Turned to the windshield, it keeps a small portion of the windshield clear of condensation. Thats all it's good for. Hardly any heat, hardly any moving air from the fan.

An impressive looking gadget; but not really a heater. Not worth 50 cents.

I had no idea what "single pole" meant before I bought this, but it means it only has two wires. Mine need four wires. Be sure to check your existing thermostat before buying a replacement. If you only need a single pole (2-wire) version, this one is fine. If you need a two pole (4-wire), be sure to find that one.

Single pole means there's just one temperature sensor and on/off circuit. Dual pole means there are two temperature sensors and on/off circuits. Some building codes requires dual pole thermostats as a safety measure if one sensor goes bad.

Lux Products LV2 Line Voltage Double Pole Heat Thermostat, Sterling Review

Lux Products LV2 Line Voltage Double Pole Heat Thermostat, Sterling White

This thermostat, made in China, has a kind of metal plate inside which is the only reactant/reactor/heat-sensitive element, and it is very "gross", in that it needs quite a large temperature change to move enough to turn on or turn off one's heater. So you'll wait until you're being roasted before it turns off, or until you're freezing before it turns on.

I'm willing to be proven wrong on this, but that is my experience with the "lux" thermostat. Also, there is some confusion in the way Amazon is listing this; the LV2 is a double-pole thermostat, while the LV1 is a single-pole thermostat. Theoretically (if the damned thing worked at all) it is possible to wire up the LVV2 as a single-pole thermostat, only using one of the two microswitches inside.

But it still won't be sensitive enough to know what that median temperature for turning on and off is; you'll overheat and get cold before it kicks in.

By the way, I tried every possible location including holding it in front of the heater vent (where it did have the decency to turn the heat off, I have to admit).

Unless there is some fact or factor I'm not understanding, putting this product on the market was an amazingly crass and cynical act.

Ok, I would have to agree with the other reviews that have had problems with this item, if only i had read the reviews before purchasing two of these items then i wouldnt be trying to return them right now, afetr installing these thermostats i noticed that with the room tempreature being 73 degrees these thermostats would not turn off untill i turned them down to around 55 degrees, that gives it around a 17 degree difference. so if you want an acurate thermostat do not buy this item, put out some extra cash and purchse the LUX ELV4 programmable line heating thermostat, i now have two of these units and they are the best, they have a digital thermometer built into them so there is no need to worry about checking your heating system after programming these devices, your room will be nice and warm when you wake up and will turn off when you want it too.

Best Deals on Lux Products LV2 Line Voltage Double Pole Heat Thermostat, Sterling

I replaced two old thermostats with Lux LV2's in my future retirement house. I had checked them with an ohmmeter before installation and they seemed OK. So I merely made sure they would turn the baseboards on, set them back to 60 degrees, and went home (85 miles away). Fortunately my wife and I decided to go back the next day instead of the following week. When we got there, one of the rooms was over 70 degrees and the baseboards were on. I had to move the dial back to below 50 to turn them off. The other room was cold. I needed to turn that thermostat to 80 before it came on, but then it didn't turn off until below 50.

I pulled both of the Lux LV-2's. Replaced one with a Honeywell digital and the other with a Honeywell mechanical. Both Honeywells work well and the $20 mechanical holds within about 3 degrees total.

Finally, I took one of the LV-2s into the electronics lab at work. We put a 500 watt load on it in an enclosure and it would not shut off. The thermostat frame was nearly too hot to handle but it would not shut off. After it had cooled we again tested with the ohmmeter and it again seemed OK when cold and not under load.

Buy another brandthese are poison.

Honest reviews on Lux Products LV2 Line Voltage Double Pole Heat Thermostat, Sterling

The thermostat keeps a narrow temperature range which is good. The only problem is that the temperature setting dial is about 6-8 degrees off. I set it at 60 to get a 67 degree room.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Lux Products LV2 Line Voltage Double Pole Heat Thermostat, Sterling

I tried to save some money by changing out our old thermostats. Going cheap on the thermostats was a mistake. This thermostat uses the old method of bimetallic material to switch on and off. It was poorly calibrated and when the room was 70 it needed to be turned past 85 to work. They would get stuck on and create all sorts of problems with the room temperature. I returned these chinese made hazards and purchased ones that use a chemical cell to detect temperature. The electronic ones are + or 1 degree. These units are + or 20 degrees and get stuck on. Forget them. We returned them. Round two on the install!

This refrigerator is just the right size, but it has a metal "freezer" compartment that you have to defrost regularly. Had I known the refrigerator had one of these, I would have purchased another model. However, I'm happy with the item, and as I have no need for a freezer (and don't wish to defrost this one regularly), and I am looking into removing the compartment in order to maximize the space in the fridge.

This is actually my first time writing a review for any purchase I've ever made online and I frequently shop online; I felt compelled to put my feedback and stamp of approval on this product. For the price this is a great deal.

First and foremost: I did a lot of research and browsing both on and off of Amazon to find out safety concerns regarding space heaters. As many of you may see if you've been browsing other units, people complain that some units become very hot, as well as their plugs/cords, and that they pose a fire hazard. For this reason I did my research and not only does this unit have a tilt shut off (unit needs to be flat on the ground, if lifted it will auto shut) it also has a feature that if it overheats the unit will also shut off. These are both great features, I'm all about safety first.

Aside from these features, the heater works great for me. As others say, the fan is a bit weak, but this also makes the unit extremely quiet. Regardless of the fan being weak, this little unit does a great job of heating a medium sized bedroom. Set it on high, after about 30 minutes you feel a noticeable difference; walk away for an hour or two and the area will be very warm. Get the area you want to the right temp and set it on low and this unit will do a good job of maintaining the heat. After about 6 hours of use I was still able to touch the front grill of the unit and it was hot but not enough to burn me. Turn the fan setting on and the grill will be completely cool to the touch in under a minute. Also the cord and plug are both well insulated and have never even felt warm after hours of use.

On top of all this, I think not only is the unit being quiet and working well very attractive, but I also really like that there is no element that heats up orange on this unit. So not only is it quiet, but it is also not emitting disturbing light.

All in all I am very pleased with this unit. It serves my purposes quite well, it was a reasonable price, and the safety features make this unit a complete winner in my book. Do yourself a favor, spend a few extra dollars whether on this heater or a different one and make sure you get the safety features, its well worth it to have the piece of mind; protect yourself and the ones you love.

This heater was exactly what I was looking for. It's small, easy to use and quickly heats up my fairly-large family room. The room is build on a slab, so it is drafty and cold. This does the trick. In fact, if I leave it on for a couple of hours, it heats the entire first floor of my colonial house. I highly recommend it!

It can increae the temperature in our large family room by 2 degres in an hour. Liked it so much I bought a second one! Prompt delivery.

Honest reviews on Comfort Zone® Citadel Oscillating Ceramic Tower Heater/Fan CZ488

I live in a very old house with a poorly functioning heater. I live in Kansas and we have wickedly harsh winds that rip through the shoddy windows very swiftly. My room maintained a temp of about 40 degrees when it's below freezing outside.

I have this space heater in my room which is approx 12x9ft.

First night I plugged it in on high, had to get up two hours later because I was sweltering hot. I typically only turn it on after dark when it gets very cold outside and when I do I only need it on the low setting.

The safety feature I love a great deal is that if it's not completely level flat on its base it turns it's heating, rotating and fan elements off. You hear a click if you try to scoot it and trigger it. This does not require you to turn the knob to get it going again, just place it back on a level surface.

A GREAT buy, similar items are twice the cost at department stores. I am extremely pleased.

Hope this review helped!

I bought this heater because I own a programmable thermostat (WIN100 Heating & Cooling Programmable Outlet Thermostat) that works with analog heat/AC devices. (Basically, you plug your analog heater/AC unit into it, and when the temp gets to a certain level, it activates the plug, starting the heater/AC.) My plan was to use the two devices together to heat only the bedroom in our apartment at night, rather than the entire apartment (since we only need the bedroom to be warm at night and would theoretically save energy/money that way). Why not just purchase a digital heater with a built-in thermostat, you ask? I already had the programmable thermostat, so I wanted to give it a shot. Anyway, this heater ended up working well for that purpose, but it almost didn't and required far too much user intervention (see below).

When I first started using the heater, I found that it would intermittently rattle; it sounded like a miniature jackhammer (very miniature, but a jackhammer nonetheless). The sound was loud/annoying enough that my wife and I had trouble sleeping when it occurred. I later opened the heater up (obviously not recommended, but at least I unplugged it first) and looked around for the source of the rattling. I'm still not sure exactly what it was, but I discovered that if I tugged slightly on part of the plastic housing that surrounds the fan, the rattling stopped. So I drilled a hole in it, anchored it with a cable tie and closed it back up. Now the heater is as quiet as it should be (about as quiet as a regular oscillating fan that's on "low"), but it certainly took some effort. Again, I don't know if this is a common problem or if I just got a weird one. In summary...

Pros:

-is relatively quiet when working properly (about as quiet as a regular oscillating fan on "low"; I'm a light sleeper and I can sleep through it quite easily) (note that there is no difference between the "low" and "high" modes sound-wise)

-puts out plenty of heat, in my opinion, for a small-to-medium-size room (may not work well for large/open rooms; haven't tried that)

-oscillates nicely, and the oscillation itself appears to be dead silent (you still hear the fan, obviously, but the oscillating doesn't add any noise compared to when it's not oscillating)

-low/high heat option is a good feature

-works with analog-heater/AC programmable thermostats

-in theory, it never gets hot enough to start a fire (my understanding is that this is a safety feature common to all ceramic-element heaters); briefly touching it during use is encouraging (it feels fairly hot, but not hot enough to start a fire)

Cons:

-mine rattled loudly enough to disturb sleep before I fixed it (and fixing it wasn't easy); might have been a fluke

Notes:

-feels somewhat cheaply constructed (it's about what you would expect from a little, inexpensive space heater)

-relatively small; might not work very well for heating a large and/or open room (not sure)

-the fan is fairly low-power (again, much like a regular oscillating fan on "low"); don't expect it to blow very far
