I bought this heater after seeing how highly rated it isand you guys were right! This is the best little heater ever. I bought it to keep me warm in the bathroom (I have one of those awful new house designs where the master bathroom is completely open to the master bedroom.) It works great. Gets very hot or just warm thanks to the dial. The only down side is that there is no off switchbut it is just as easy to pull the cord out of the wall as it is to turn a switch off! Portable and can be taken from room to room in one hand.

I love this heater. I use it all the time at work and it keeps me warm and toasty. I love that it has a dial so that if you get too hot you can turn it down. It heats up super quick and turns itself on and off to keep the right temperature. Its nice and small and has a nice look to it too. I like it so much that I'm buying another one to keep my bathroom warm for when I take showers. Oh, and for the people that say there is no on/off switch, you just turn the dial all the way down to turn it off. The light stays on, but the heater will not come on if you have the dial all the way down. Trust me, I have it plugged in at work all the time.

This is the perfect little heater and I know space heaters as I own about 3 of them already. I use this one at work. We aren't supposted to have space heaters but it is soooo cold at work that I would be absolutely miserable without it. Because of the size, it's easy for me to keep this one out of sight. I keep it plugged in to its own surge protecting power strip so it doesn't ever disturb the other computers in the area. When I leave for the day, I can lock it up in one of my filing cabinets. I can't say enough good things about it. I love the thermostat feature, if I get too warm, it's easy to turn down. I just ordered a second one for my bathroom. If you need a tiny space heater that really warms you up, then this is the one!

I purchased this heater to add a little heat to my office, which luckily for me has a window, but unluckily for me, also has a draft. I've been very happy with the results! The built-in thermostat keeps the office at a steady temperature, which is perfect. It doesn't take up much space, which is also a bonus. Downsides: There is no off-switch, so I have to unplug it at the end of the day. That's not so great, because occasionally I forget if the blower is not actively running when I'm getting ready to leave. The noise level from the machine is reasonable, though certainly not silent. In summary, this model perfectly meets my needs. For the price and convenience, it is worth tolerating the minor downsides. And it was affordable. I'd definitely purchase this model again.

Update 11/26/06: I said I'd purchase this again, and now that I have a new drafty bedroom, I have just ordered this product again. I anxiously await its arrival this week.

A good bit of assembly required, but easy enough to follow. The fully assembled heater is quite pretty and throws off a lot of heat. The included remote controls on/off and brightness of the logs and flames, but not the temperature. All-in-all, very pleased.

I received this item as a gift and I really love it! It's as close to a fireplace as I can get in my small home! It's small enough to fit and still get a a comfortable cozy feeling. I agree it does have a hummm when you have the flame on, but easily overcome if you have other noise, ie TV. Well made and not too difficult to assemble.

Super fast delivery. Ordered on Wed., received it on Friday! Packaged great! Assembly took a little over an hour (would have been quicker if I was not using my pink tools). I had to go online to find out how to use the cam bolt and lock, otherwise instructions are very easy to follow. All parts well marked with one extra of each. Unit is very attractive. Heats the room quickly. I would give 5 stars except when the "flame" is running it makes a distracting sound. For now I'm just keeping the "logs" glowing and the heat on.

We love this fireplace. It arrived in great condition and several days earlier than we expected. It works great and looks fantastic. We couldn't be more pleased. It replaced a fireplace that used the gel cans for a 'real' fire effect. The gel cans were really expensive and, although they give us the sounds of a real fire, they also gave off an unpleasant odor. The "firebox" for the unit is good. The blower is fairly quiet. It has an LED read out behind the top vent that comes on to show the temp and the setting. Once it warms the room to your setting it turns off the heater. Flames are above average in appearance though they will of course not fool anyone into thinking they are real.

Assembly was typical for these kits. They didn't include or "require" glue. However, I always use Elmers wood glue to make sure the joints are solid. It was about 2 hours from unboxing to cleanup.

The appearance is good, but not as "real" as I had hoped for. The front pillars and decoration are made of resin (plastic) and not carved wood. Unfortunately, they way overdo the "old" look by intentionally distressing (damaging) the actual wood with intentional pitting and nicks.

Overall I am pleased. It is both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional for warming my 300 square foot study.

Overall, I'm happy with these fans (I bought 2). Fans run quietly, and speed up when the extra air is needed (I'm using them as exhaust fans). They must plug into the power supply (can't just plug into mobo). Since they have temperature sensors on them I only used the power supply connection.

Fan does what it is supposed to do which is increase or decrease speed based upon the temperature of a sensor. It seems pretty quiet. I think it makes a lot of sense if your backplate has this size vent on it, to install it for some additional airflow, but you should be careful not to blow air towards your CPU (it doesn't seem to like this even if the air is cold.)

Double check and make sure you have the sensor mounted on the outside if you want an exhaust fan or the thermal sensor on the inside if you want an intake fan.

This new model thermoelectric cooler from Whynter is a real gem. I am a white wine drinker, and enjoy my wine at a temperature of around 48-50 degrees Fahrenheit. Most thermoelectrics do not cool that low. Many are not even specified to go below about 54 degrees. This Whynter Model WC-201TD is specified down to 46 degrees. Upon installing the wine cooler I set it to its lowest value. With the wine cooler about half full with standard 750ml bottles, it slowly made its way all the way down to the specified 46 degrees. I was impressed. Not only that, the Summertime afternoon non-air-conditioned temperature at our house over the next 24 hours hit 80 degrees. The Whynter easily "kept its cool" between 46-48 degrees. I'm very pleased with this small space heater, mostly because the thermostat works quite well. On the last "inexpensive" heater I had, the thermostat was practically useless, and I finally decided to get a new one as I couldn't keep an even temperature. This unit is solid, attractive, warms quickly, and maintains an even temperature. My only criticism is the bright red light on the front when you plug it in. This makes no sense to me -the light should go on when you turn it on, not be on the whole time it's plugged in. So first, there's no way to know if it's on or not if it's not blowing air, and second, the light is much too bright at night. I had to put a piece of paper over it to dim it.

I had a little heater fan from DeLonghi (DFH132), and it was fine but a little weak. I tried out a few heater fans from Honeywell (HFH5555 [worked, but blew a fuse] and HEH8001-U [worked but more fan than heater]) but ended up returning them.

This little heater puts out a good bit of heat. It's sitting behind me right now, in the same spot the heater fan used to occupy, and it puts out much more heat. It's also about twice as loud, but that doesn't bother me. The grille on the front gets hot, but I haven't left my hand on it long enough to see if it will burn me. I can make only so many sacrifices for Amazon reviews...

I gave this heater 4 stars. Let me explain....

First, to be realistic about my pros and cons, I know I wasn't getting a top of the line model being that this heater was under thirty bucks. I only needed this to provide a little warmth boost in my 1-year old sons 14' x 12' room.

Pros:

-Pushes a lot of heat for being so small This was surprising. I have to keep the temp turned only about 1/3 of the way up with the lowest fan setting or else my son's room turns into a sauna.

-Very nice size it's not tiny, but it fits nicely on my son's chest of drawers along with an alarm clock and piggy bank.

-1 fan, 2 heat options there is a fan option(no heat), a low and high heat setting. I use the low and imagine that the high setting would push qhite a bit of heat.

-Thermostat very nice option for what I use it for, once you get it right (see cons). I keep it up about 1/3 of the way and it keeps the room at a semi-constant temp.

-Stays cool to the touch on perimeter if you put your hand directly in front of the heating element, it's hot (duh), the rest of it stays nice and cool. This was a major concern for me since it stays in a childs room and space heaters having such a bad safety rep.

-Sturdy I originally had it on the floor and moved it up on a dresser. Neither place was I afraid that it would tip over on it's own

-Overheat switch It's an option, but I gladly haven't had to see if it works

Cons:

-Slightly noisier than expected I expected a little noise since it is a little heater but this small fans puts out quite a bit of noise. It's not loud enough to wake my son when it kicks on during the night, but it is loud enough where I had to relocate the baby monitor because it was driving my wife and me crazy.

-Thermostat this was a pro for having the option alone. The con is that it took me about a week to get it to maintain an even temp exactly where I wanted it. One time it would be too hot, I make an adjustment, then too cold, repeat about 15 times, and it's just right.

If I could give 4 1/2 stars I would. My pros are definite pros, but the cons may be a little petty given the product. I think for a few more dollars DeLonghi could put in a digital thermostat and maybe a slighly quieter fan.

Overall, I highly recommend this.

My wife and I bought 2 of these to give our utility budget a break this winter.

This heater puts out alot of heat. The On/Off/Heat Settings switch, along with the Thermostat switch, feel very solid for a ceramic heater this inexpensive. It has a handle so it's easily transportable. Power light goes off when the unit is turned off (unlike others in this price range). Can be turned off (Some other similarly priced heaters need to have you pull the plug for the heater to go off). If it gets too hot, it will shut itself off (Safety feature). It's not whisper quiet but it is certainly not overly loud, as some others have complained. It also has an anti-freeze setting, if that is why you need it.

For the money, I can't see how you can get a better deal on a ceramic heater. I checked out all the similarly priced ceramic heaters here on Amazon, and quite frankly the combination of features, efficient ceramic heating element, solid design and inexpensive price make this a "no-brainer" as far as inexpensive ceramic heaters go. Get 2 and give the gift of ceramic heating efficiency this Christmas. OOPS, politically incorrect. TOO BAD!!!

I am living Iowa city, and the weather is getting colder and colder. So, I bought this small heater to get extra heat for my bedroom. It actually runs very loud, which is quite annoying for me. Moreover, I don't believe the "thermostat" works at all. The manual delusively says that the "thermostat" can be used to maintain the temperature. It is not true. I have to turn it on and off manually... However, it is cheap. For that reason, we probably should not have high expectation.

Unit shuts down when small internal tank fills with condensation. Must empty/drain daily in warm weather, or weekly in mild weather. Drain is very close to floor. So close a deck of cards will not fit under drain. The unit weighs 65 lbs. It is very hard to lift, tilt and drain into a bowl, or can. I contacted customer service and asked for tips or suggestions. I was hoping that they could suggest something that others had used to solve the problem. Customer support said each customer must do what works for them. I heard,"You bought it, it's your problem, figure it out." I think I will try to find a small sturdy plant stand, or table to set the unit 4 or 5 inches off the floor. Then I can put a good sized pan or conainer under to drain and only need to empty the water once r twice a week. I hate standing on my head or crawling around on my knees trying not to slop water all over In fairness the unit preforms well, is sturdy, ez to use and all around very good. But now I need to build or buy some Rube Goldberg system to take care of a problem that could have been cured with bigger wheels, or some how raising the unit 2 or 3 inches before selling it to the public and making it the consumers problem. This would be a great unit if you had sloped concrete floors in a garage.

This unit is easy to set up , made well . It cooled an upstairs bedroom in a poorly insulated house , fairly large room at that , eventually got it down to 70 degrees .No problem with it spitting moisture or needing to be drained as it says in its item description,even in a high humid room.BUT ,is this thing LOUD . On the lowest setting its noisier than any other AC I've ever owned.I had it running 2 days and gave up on it ,Threw my old AC back in the window because I could not sleep through the noise this monster makes ,and Im a person that can fall asleep anywhere with a TV blasting .This thing kept me up 2 nights in a row .I had to shut it down.Its more suited for a large wreck room , cellar,garage, or outside enclosure where noise wont be an isssue and it can be pushed off into a far away corner !!

Now I dont know what to do with it and Im $350.00 bucks lighter in the wallet ......

Im back to finish this review after this summer of 2013 . These portable ACs are not worth the money ! The design is flawed ! The hot exhuast hose is fed out the window ,but it is constantly re-warming the air in the room because it is so hot. Most very hot days ,this unit could NOT get the roon cooler than 80 degrees . I stuck this unit back in the box and said forget it !! Ordered an regular 8000 window AC from Walmart for $200.00 , What a difference in cooling! Finally its comfortable in the room....

i had a 6000 btu unit in a window in this room.i decided to leave it there while i was installing the 12,000 edgestar portable AC.in a window alongside it. about 2:00 in the afternoon.i turned the portable on and shutoff the 6000 btu unit. the room got warmer by 12 degree's over the next 2 hours while the outside air got cooler. it is now 4:00 in the afternoon mid july in n.y. over the next few days i kept comparing the difference between both units. i decided to keep the 6000 unit in the room and put the portable in a smaller room.because it was too much of a bother to repack to return the unit.

Cheap Lasko 2138 8-Inch Electrically Reversible Twin Window Fan

I've run this fan for 10 hours per day for more than seven years and it's still going strong. I just ordered a 2nd fan since I know this one can't possibly last forever and I don't want to risk not being able to find this same model again.

For a year or two, I had it mounted in my bedroom window. Since my window wasn't the sash type, I placed the fan on its side and used several strips of earthquake putty to help ensure a solid fit. It was perfect! I also plugged it into a timer so it turned on and off automatically. When we moved to another house, I couldn't mount it in the window because our security system wouldn't arm with windows open so I leaned it against the wall and used the same timer to turn it on and off. And that's where it's remained for the last five years!

The best thing about this fan is the lovely "white noise" it emits. It masks the sound of cats and cars and furnace noises so I don't wake up constantly throughout the night. Seven years is more than 2500 nights of blissful sleep!

I was very disappointed with this fan. The motors are fairly powerful, but everything else...where to start.

The sliding accordion panels on the sides are supposed to let you adjust the width to fit in your window. To put it simply, they don't work. They won't stay extended! There are screws that you can supposedly tighten to keep it in place, but they don't work and stripped out really easily when I tried to tighten them. And...screws? I have a $20 Holmes fan that, instead of making you mess around with screws has a simple plastic lock for the extenders that works perfectly.

As for the actual fans, the motor on the left fan makes a rattling/clicking noise.

And as for the controls, that $20 Holmes fan I mentioned above has completely independent controls for each side of the fan, including 3 separate speeds. This fan has 2 speeds, which cannot be set independently for each side.

The fan also doesn't fit the window at all well. Aside from the issue with the accordion sides, the top and bottom don't seem to have been designed to fit into the window. Most window fans have a groove on the top, for example. This one doesn't.

I'm sending this fan back. Would not buy again, and I urge you to steer clear as well. $40 ought to buy a much better fan than this!

I compared the features on this fan with many other brands/models before purchasing it. I was looking for a fan to control the output/input of the air without having to do it manually. There is also the option to draw in and push out air at the same time. I am very happy with this fan. It has high and low settings. It also has a type of thermostat which I don't use. The only downside I have found is that you cannot direct the air flow as the vents are not moveable. Another plus is that it can be freestanding, which is good because it is 25" wide and my windows are only 24" my fault for not measuring first! I am very happy with this fan and would highly recommend it!

I am using this fan as a test in my restaurant. I have a problem area that holds smoke and cooking odors in my dining room and I have installed this fan vertically in a small sliding window next to one of the guest tables. To be honest with you, when I first turned this thing on I expected it to move more air and be alot louder. But as it sits I have found that it actually does a very good job at getting rid of a very noticable amount of odor and smoke (without taxing my A/C system!). And my customers can sit next to it and not even notice that it is running! Most likely I will probably keep this unit as long as it runs and be quite satisfied with the results, especially knowing that a commercial unit would cost several hundred dollars more and most likely have to be professionally installed..$$$$$.

This heater is surprisingly quiet. I am impressed. It's not as flashy as more expensive heaters but the performance is just as good as any other 1500w heater out there. Living in MN I've pretty much tried every type of space heater. I've used other heating coil fan style heaters, radiator, micathermic, quartz, and ceramic tower heaters. This is one of the least expesive space heaters that I've bought and it performs very well. It's hard to find a good heater that's quiet at any price point, let alone one with a digital thermostat that functions correctly. This one is a winner. It has a 3 yr. warranty which seems to be pretty standard with most space heaters. FYI I actually bought this at Target for a little cheaper (paid the same with tax) and plan on purchasing a second one.

This seemed like a great by reduce energy use, put out some heat, and cool to the touch, as it was going in my 2 yr old's room. First unit arrived, worked great! Heated room, cool to touch, and didn't need to run constantly. After about a week of very limited use it stopped working. Seemed to be a control malfunction, would display, but not turn on. OK, defective unit. Sent it back, got the replacement quickly. Worked great FOR ONE DAY! It now powers on, puts out a weird spark on the coil, heats for 4 seconds then clunks out. Doesn't seem safe and doesn't work. Either they have terrible quality control or something is wrong with their design, because I can't believe a company could put out a product that fails this miserably. Fool me once... It's getting returned now, off to look for something similar that works (kind of the baseline requirement).

If you want something that is cool to the touch, this will work. Unfortunately though, that means it does not put out a lot of heat. I put my feet right up against it on high, and it was not hot. The air was warmer than the room, but not hot. If you leave it on all day it may heat up the room, but I need to turn it on when I get to work and it would not be warm by the time I have to leave.

I use mine in a 30 foot RV. After the first year I bought a second one. The heaters are compact and easy to use. The thermostat works well. My RV uses a 30 amp system, so I can only use one at a time if the unit is on high. I close the door to the bedroom section and then using one heater at a time I can heat the bedroom or living room. The heaters have worked well for me and I would recommend them to heat small spaces.

This item was decent for me except that it only decides to work when it feels like it. I had to pay to send it back to Lasko and when they got it, they said it was working, so they sent it back. It worked for a few days and now it's not working again.

It also would have been nice if they would have made the base have a joint to point the heater up or down. Overall, this is overpriced junk.
