I've had 4 or 5 "home" deep fryers in the past few years and this one is the best so far. First, it's large enough to actually fry something, don't know how others use the ones that are one 1 or 2 liters. It'll keep the temp better when cooking too.

The cool touch and compact form are great, you can store it immediately after use if necessary without burning yourself on hot metal sides. Controls are simple and temp lights tell you when you're ready to fry. Basket functions well enough on it's hinged system. No handles sticking out when you're done either.

I caught it for under $50 so if I can get a couple of years out of it I'm happy.

FRENCH FRY TIP:

I've seen many people complain about these units not being hot enough and fries coming out soggy. This is likely not the fryer's fault. I cook with light olive oil mix (for health reasons not that it's the best for the job) but it really works IF you do one simple thing, boil the cut potatoes for a few minutes with a half cup of vinegar to the water, dry with paper towel and they come out crispy almost every time without the overboil issues.

I love this deep fryer! Our old one didn't have the removable basket, and you couldn't lower the handle once the lid was shut, and it didn't have the timer or the filtersthe list goes on! I also love that fact that you can completely disassemble it and wash the entire thing! The basket looks really small compared to my other one but did some actually comparison with food quantity and they actually hold about the same amount. Really happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it!

The fryer has performed flawlessly. I use it 2 3 times a week and have not been disappointed yet. The oil heats up fairly quickly and it is able to maintain temperature. The best feature of this fryer is the easy of changing oil and cleaning everything you need to clean comes apart and can be cleaned over a sink (except you cannot immerse the control unit in water of course). The basket is likewise easy to clean and it is well designed and constructed.

Follow-up: After using the fryer for approximately a month (2-3 times a week), the control panel plastic, where the heating element exits, melted and began to smoke. I turned the unit off and unplugged it immediately. Glad that I was monitoring it at the time don't know how bad it would have gotten (it was hot enough to a fire). I contacted Oster by email (which is now Sunbeam and apparently managed by a company named Jarden). My email was answered the following day wherein they offered me a different model (the M70) as a replacement fryer, claiming that the M55 model was out of stock and it was unknown when it would be back in stock. I agreed to the M70 and the replacement was delivered within a week by UPS (even before the broken unit was returned) no charge. A UPS shipping label was sent in the mail for the return of the M55 no charge. The M70 is a 4 liter unit and not made as well as the M55 but, so far, it hasn't melted guess we'll see if it holds up. So, I am disappointed that the M55 failed but I am impressed with the customer service and prompt response to the problem.

I use the fryer mostly for fish and chips. Capacity is fine for 2people and it provides a good crispy product. It does what I hoped it would.

We purchased this heater after our other, much older one, burned out. This heater is relatively small and runs pretty quietly, which is nice. But that isn't enough to compensate for the absurdly poor amount of heat that it puts out. We didn't expect much from a small room heater, but out of all of the room heaters that we have ever used this is by far the weakest one. It is also disappointing that this heater has very few settings and doesn't oscillate. If you want a little heater to warm your toes during spring while you're also running a stronger heater then by all means, get this one. If you're looking for an actual heater that has the ability to heat an entire room by more than 4 degrees than this is certainly not for you.

I am disapointed that there are not more reviews on this product! We have a second home in the mountains with a bar/gameroom downstairs which has central heat, but still maintains a chilly 50degrees in the winter(outside temps in the teens). We wanted a small space heater to push the temp to around 60degrees. The room has a fireplace, but we don't want to burn a cord of wood every winter just to use the space for a few drinks or a movie. We bought a small Honeywell heater which didn't put out enough heat. We exchanged it for a bigger Pure Comfort box but it died the first night and the local hardware store didn't have a replacement... so.. we got back to the flatlands and purchased a Vornado. I plugged it in and I tried to warm our large(12ft ceiling-250sqft) living room just to see how it would perform, but after 40minutes it didn't seem to do much. I then moved it to our family room which is about 200sqft w/8ft ceilings, but is not an enclosed room(open to kitchen and hallway). I feel the heat blowing from the unit but I don't feel the overall space getting warmer... so.. i guess the jury is still out. I plan on taking it up to our mountain home next weekend to heat the 150sqft gameroom, but I am skeptical. Having the unit next to you in quite comfortable but it doesn't seem to warm the entire room. Probably this is not a good test.. my expectations might be too high. In an enclosed room it might be alright. Right now it seems like a good under-the-desk unit for your office... but.. update coming...

Best Deals on Vornado TH1 Whole Room Tower Heater

The Owner's Guide uses page 2 exclusively to inform reader that Vornado products are "Designed, engineered and supported in Andover, Kansas.

My first Vornado purchase many years ago was the Vortex Heat Whole Room Portable Electric Space Heater. It was smooth, quiet, and best of all it offered a continuous running fan while the heat cycled off and on. This made for an uniterrupted pleasing sound to sleep or work by. It pleased me to think that these must be better machines because they were Made in America.

However, since then I have purchased 2 more such type units. Both, regretablly, not like the 1st. Both had a sporadic rattle of some sort that could be easily heard. I called customer service to voice my unhappiness, but there was not a sympathetic customer service rep on the other end. I still have these 2 units.

In November, 2012, I ordered the TH1 Tower Heater from Vornado for $99.99, with much anticipation that it surely would meet the preference for that continuous running fan feature and the quiet running feature they especially emphasized. Upon its first use, there was an obvious high-pitched whirring sound that was audible beyond the actual whir of the fan. As I wanted to utilize the unit for a pleasant "white" type sound as much for the heat feature, I was disappointed.

Maybe most people would never notice, but being sound sensitive it is an irritant to me.

I called customer service and was met with a listening, concerned, warm-hearted customer rep. He had me download and print off a UPS mailing label for its return. Furthermore, he stated he would go ahead and have another mailed back to me. This transaction was very good, very pleasing.

In a reasonable amount of time, the replacement arrived.

Upon its first use, the same whirring sound was still present. Ugh! I will keep it & use it, but will do so when needing "quietness" isn't an imperative.

In conclusion, the unit may be designed, engineered and supported in Kansas, but it definitely is Made In China.

This replaced same one I have. Several years old. Last one probably lasted 5+ years or more. Not sure why it stopped working. It was the A/C side that quit. Was easiest to replace with same one since I knew had it worked.

If I was starting from scratch,I'd probably try new technology.

Bought this cute little waffle maker for my niece who loves the Disney Princesses. This waffle maker imprints deep belgium-like waffle marks on one side and Cinderella and her prince in the pumpkin coach on the opposite side.

These are quite large waffles. The first time we used it I made a small batch of batter (suggested servings 5-7 waffles) and was only able to make 1 1/2 waffles out of it. But they cook up quickly, sometimes done before the ready light turns off, and they are light and fluffy.

I found this one clearance for $9.97, and think it was a great buy. At the time I wouldn't have thought I would use it enough to pay $30 for it, assuming it was just a novelty item for us, but everytime I see (2-3 times a week) her she requests Princess Waffles.

I have had one of these heaters for four years now, and use it in my 1000 square foot workshop (concrete floor and high ceilings make this space a challenge to heat). It does put out a considerable amount of heat, though it tends to be localized as there is no fan. Nearby the unit it gets quite toasty, and will raise the temperature of my shop 15 to 20 degrees after about an hour and a half.

The secret to good performance is to use nice clean kerosene, and be sure it is not contaminated with water. It performs best on clear kerosene, but this is the most expensive fuel. I have had decent luck using red dyed kerosene (road tax exempt). I by it at a local bulk petroleum jobber and as of yesterday (April 5, 2010) I paid about 16.50, with tax, for 5 gallons in California. It burns clean, but I find I need to clean the wick a couple of times each season. I get a bit longer than 12 hours per tank, which is great. Make sure you change the batteries at the start of winter, and any time the glow of the starter seems to dim. I go through one or two sets of C batteries each season.

Cleaning the wick takes about 10 minutes there are two screws and a knob to remove, and then the top slides off reveling the base. I use a small putty scraper to flick off the carbonized portion of the wick. If you find the unit sputtering or hard to light that is an indicator that this service is needed.

I have replaced the wick once over the past four years. Do this outside, and wear rubber gloves as the kerosene has a strong odor. It is not too hard, but you do need to take care that it is aligned correctly so that it cranks all the way up for lighting, and more importantly all the way down to ensure it extinguishes the flame. It did take me two tries to get this right, and I am reasonably handy, though a more careful reading of the instructions would have helped.

Overall I am very happy with the product and am considering purchasing a second one for my shop to reduce the ramp up time. The maintenance required keeps it from being a 5 star review, but the trade off is lower operating costs when compared to electricity or especially propane.

Easy to operate and puts out a lot of heat. Wife and I both enjoy using it. The safety grill makes it safe for our preschool aged children.

We initially purchased this for back-up heat. However, our home has 11-foot ceilings and just one 1500 watt wall heater per room. So, we're using this heater regularly to get things initially warmed up in the morning. We run it on cold mornings for about an hour or two and it warms the whole downstairs.

Lighting this heater inside is fine, but some people may want to shut it off outside as there is a bit of smell on shutdown. If the batteries are low on the starter, you can also light it with a match.

Kerosene fuel is a bit expensive, but the heat value is quite high per gallon. You can cut the cost by buying in larger quantities -55 gallon drum drops the cost to about $5 a gallon...which puts heater operation cost at just under $1 an hour for fuel. 1.9 gallon tank burns 10-12 hours Otherwise, buying in 5 gallon containers from the hardware store puts the price at $9/gallon...but that's still enough to get through an electrical outage.

Stove oil (red dyed kerosene) is also fine (says this in the instructions that come with the heater), but will gum up the wick a little faster. However, stove oil is under $3.50 a gallon right now...so the price is right.

**Update:

Heater working great. I replaced the factory installed wick about a month ago, and the new wick is working even better. The first wick became clogged over time with the red dye from the 55 gallon drum of kerosene. However, it was cheaper overall even with the wick change to go for the drum. I add a couple teaspoons of denatured alcohol to each fill, and another teaspoon during the dry-burn -this helps a lot to keep the wick in good condition and to burn off any water that collects in the heater's sump. Denatured alcohol can be purchased locally in the painting section of your local hardware store.

I recently had the drum refilled with #1 stove oil from the local heating oil supplier -at $3.89/gallon. Stove oil #1 is the same as red dyed kerosene and works great (do not use #2 stove oil). The supplier has a minimum of 100 gal order, but I chatted with the manager and arranged for a fill that matched up with another delivery at no extra charge. Earlier in the season, I purchased a 5-gallon can of K-1 clear kerosene. I refill that can from the drum, then fill the heater with it. A good hand-pump to pull from the drum: Fill-Rite SD62 Hand Pump Rotary 2-Vane Curved Spout

The heater will burn 11 hours continuously, and heats the entire house all day. Granted, that's about $7.80 for a day of heating, which is more expensive than electric. However, our family loves the quality of heat it puts out.

We live in a 3rd story condo, and are planning a New Years party. We just redesigned our patio built benches, made cushions, and I wanted the patio to be comfortable to sit on while outside. Our patio is open to the east, and also open in the nook to the north. So I needed something that was going to produce enough heat to keep the patio warm. We tried two other heaters (electric) before buying this one. They were horrible!

I bought mine at home depot, and they have the fuel there. I think I have a different model (DuraHeat Convection Kerosene Heater Model DH2304), but it is the same amount of BTU's and the the same design, just looks a little different. This heater is amazing...we filled up half the tank, and have used it the last few nights to test it out. It heats up the whole area and keeps the heat coming! I plan on putting a sheet up in the nook using an expandable rod, (don't worry the sheet won't hang near the heater) I just want to try to block some of the cold air from coming in! A lot of heat comes out of the top, so I am hoping it will keep more of the heat in the patio area!

If you are looking for a great patio heater, this is the one to buy! Especially if you live in a condo! I am pretty sure we are not allowed to have propane, plus who wants a 20lb propane tank hanging around! This heater is ok'd for indoor, and if we ever loose our heat, we won't be cold! As long as we have kerosene!

There are instructions for the care of this heater, and I suggest you read them. There is important information about dry burning and cleaning the wick etc. They stress the importance of these things to keep your heater working properly! I am new to this (Giant Lantern) but the instructions are very detailed and easy to understand! Good luck!

Honest reviews on Kero World KW-24G 23,000-BTU Indoor Portable Convection Kerosene

Kerosene use is always a slightly sloppy experience. This unit and the included pump minimize it. I used it to help heat my house after Super storm Sandy. It lasted around 9 to 10 hours with my flame height settings. It was a real lifesaver for us. Thank goodness we have a gas station nearby with bulk Kerosene. The bulk kerosene burned cleanly and odor free in this unit.

This item really surprised me, it heated up the house, better than using propane where I live, as long as you make sure you get the right fuel, it tells you what to buy, the odorless K1. I was actualy warm this past winter when it snowed, and felt real heat:) Great heater. If your house is larger than 2000 sq ft, you might want to get one for each floor depending on how the heat rises and spreads out. Very happy with this purchase. Just be sure to use caution, and follow the directions as with most heaters. I put this on a brick area in the living room, it heated that room, and the heat rose up stairs just fine. My house is 1900 sq ft, so it was perfect.

Tried wiring up the 15 year old sensor on our Superior fireplace. It didn't work so off to Amazon in search of a replacement. Ordered this one Monday evening, arrived on Thursday. Very strong magnet. Slid the 2 wires over the connector lugs, turned on the fireplace and in a few minutes the fan started! Turned the fireplace off and upon returning from a walk (~30 minutes) the fan was off. So based on a single test everything looks good. I'll update this review if anything changes as we head into the heating season.

I've suffered with a kludgy Lux 500 for years awkward, tedious programming small buttons small display and finally replaced it. Considered Honeywell because it's commonly available, but didn't like Honeywell's policy of not honoring warranty unless installed by a licensed professional, and wasn't wild about other on-the-shelf local options. So I did a little research and stumbled upon this thermostat and ordered.

I love it! Granted, it has only been installed for a few days, and I'm comparing it to the dreadful Lux 500, but programming is so simple, and I like that for filter replacement it uses number of hours of operation instead of number of days. Who cares how many days if the furnace isn't operating? A big reason I chose this one is the programmability of temp swing before the furnace turns on, because it means I can adjust so furnace neither cycles endlessly, nor has too big a temp swing.

Unit looks clean on the wall, and can take off for programming if needed.

Very pleased. If I run into any issues, I'll return here to downgrade, but if I'm not back, this thermostat has remained a hit with me.

This was a great unit looks great but in the listing and on the box it states it has a programmable fan feature after calling pro1iaq they stated it does not have a programmable fan feature. I love this thermostat and am sad to send it back but it was shutting the fan and compressor at the same time and the fan needs to stay on for 30-60 seconds to take the condensation off the airhandler otherwise it will rust in no time.probably more suited for heat application I gave it a 3 because although all the other function work great a 20 dollar thermostat does not shut off the compressor and fan at the same time

Honest reviews on PRO1 IAQ T905 Touchscreen Thermostat with Large Easy-to-Read Display

Over the years I have had lots of themostats. Mainly programable, start with the early Honeywell simple set-back to the more complex mechanical pin type for more on off combinations. I have tried many brands and although I preferred the Honeywells they are not the leader they were when these were mechanical.

During the recent hurricane induced power outage, the dozen surges that the house suffered fried all 3 of my themostats. I bought this an 2 lower models Honeywells. This was slated for the main floor but the wife thought the unit looked too big. That however is the charm of this thing. Big and easy to read. Easy to set. Easy, easy easy all the way round.

As far as the touch on this unit, it responds to an light or hard touch (my previous unit was a major pain, you had to have JUST the right touch to get it to work).

One more thing the button on the top turns the light on so you can work the unit in the dark without have to press on the touch surface. All in all a very well thought out little (big) themostat.

First off, I got this nat gas heater at the end of November of 2010 for a 17'x 22' finished basement room with a 7' drop ceiling. I live in the Northeast so we get pretty cold winters here. This heater was purchased for a secondary back up heating system in the event of a power failure however, I use it daily and love it. My initial concerns before the unit was installed: plumbing gas pipe, ventless emmissions, CO2, odors and function(s). I'll address all the concerns as best I can.

-Plumbing gas pipe: Don't do it yourself, hire a professional, you'll sleep a lot sounder, a small price to pay for safety (it'll pay for itself in the long run anyway)

-Ventless Emissions: I researched here and there and everywhere, this camp is split from what I can see, some say there is and some say there isn't any, I don't know. The next thing I cover may or may not be related to this.

-CO2 and odors: I installed $40 Kidde CO2 detector 12 feet away from the heater and it still reads 0 all the time (I was expecting 5-7 ppm but I got 0, that's great). Now onto, the odors, yes there are odors, I'll admit that when I first fired this unit up I was greatly impressed with the heat output but wasn't at all happy about the smell. It was a chemical smell, which after the heater stopped running the smell soon went away within a minute or two. I would masked the odor with an air freshener when the heater ran and it was fine. It has since been a month and a half now and the heater has ran frequently on a daily basis and the odor/smell is virtually gone. A relief to say the least. I do smell it briefly at start up sometimes but that's only for a second or two. I think it was the paint/parts burning off that new heater smell so to speak.

-Function(s): Although it looks like there is, there isn't a digital thermostat, It's a 1 through 5 dial type which runs the duration of how long the heater runs with some internal temp setting (ex. setting 1 = 68-72 degrees). Flame height is the same always, temp dial does not regulate height. Flame is not like pictured, it's better, it looks like what's on your stove top. Flame is a nice blue, at start up I get orange streaks, I found out that's its only dust in the air, it goes away in about 15-25 min. The fan, basically is useless, poor design, could be a lot better, I don't use it. I have a 10" Honeywell table top swivel fan blowing across the heater, left to right, it's even with the top of the unit to circulate the heat in a circle around the room. My unit is not wall mounted, it is free standing on carpet, carpet does get warm to the touch but never hot. No electric required (unless you use the fan), the spark igniter runs on a AA battery (supplied), there is no pilot when it's off.

So how well does it work? Well, Freaking Amazing!!! It's instant heat!!! To get an idea of the heat output, if you have a gas stove, turn all stove top burners on at the same time, don't run the vent, put your hands near the vent away from the flame. I have 4 burners on my stove and that is what is feels like for me. The burner is this unit is about 16" long. At setting 1, once my room is warmed up, the heater runs for a minute or two then knocks off, it'll do this 3-4 times an hour. As for energy savings, I can already see it, I used to use a electric ceramic tower heater to heat (pointed at me) the room at $50+ a month more on the electric bill, that's no more and the whole room is toasty and to boot my gas usage went down slightly compared to the previous year at this time. Win, win, win.

Pro's:

Heat, heat and more heat. Instant heat.

Energy savings (it will pay for itself)

CO2 not an issue in my setup of a basement room

Looks it looks nice as a unit alone and when its running.

Con's:

Blower fan, useless

Dial temp gauge No digital temp setting (it would be a great feature and for setting lower temps too)

Odor goes away over time with use

There ya go I hope this helps you.

The only glitch on this heater is the picture of a digital reading on amazon's site. The heater came in with a sticker where the digital reading should have been. Set up was easy, I had a guy at lowes plumbing dept help me with the parts. Make sure and buy the leak checker fluid and watch for bubbles. I also used a flexible coil they use for gas stoves and dryers. The flexible hose also has a built in union so you don't have to install one. The heater works really well with a cracked window or overhead fan on to keep humidity down. The room heats up fast but does have some cool spots. It's ok for what we are using it for. There is an odor and will go away in time. The odor is not natural gas but the heater itself burning off impurities. The built in thermostat works well shutting on & off the heat on its own. I would suggest getting a cheap digital thermometer to help you regulate the heat.

After a few power outages last winter, we purchased this heater today and installed it. Wow! It adequately heats our living room and kitchen and if the downstairs bathroom door is left open, covers that as well. Better yet, with it running, our furnace has yet to kick on with the thermostat set at 68 (it's 37 outside right now with a wind chill of 30).

The only con I can think of is that the blower really isn't very efficient. We are using a small pole fan behind the unit to distribute the warm air more evenly, although a ceiling fan would do the same if you have one.

Definitely well worth the purchase price. We were debating whether to get this one or a different non-vented natural gas heater with logs and "flames" but decided for $100 less, we could do without the esthetics and stick with pure function.

It does a nice job, I bought it to be back-up heat if the power goes out. I wish it had a thermostat that had a lower setting as it kicks on around 66 to 68 but it still does a great job. I have not used the fan but where it is set-up in my house the fan is not needed.

I purchased this to replace an older mercury type Thermostat that was originally installed in my house. The info on line sounds as if this is a very good thermostat. I liked the programmable features and the fact that it shows the actual reading and the temperature setting. This is not installed yet.

However, I always say that revews are much more useful if done several years after the products have been used to tell the true story if the product works as if it should and is reliable.

The thermostat is pretty cheaply made. The knob doesn't push on easily and that piece that attaches the thermostat to the heater bends in when you try to push the knob on. I finally gave up and just stuck it on a little so I can turn it, but it will probably fall off. I needed another one and got one from a different manufacturer. The other one is a LOT better made at a slightly lower price.
