I bought this little guy because it was the same price as similarly specced machines, and it had the lowest wattage setting of them all (600W/1200W on LOW/HI respectively).

Pros:

It heats my little 10x10 bedroom super fast. Because it is a lower wattage, I do have it plugged into an extension cord, and have not noticed any weird behavior. Both the heater plug and extension cord plug are cool to the touch after two hours of running the machine, which is about all I ever run it for anyway. The back, sides and bottom of the machine also say cool to the touch (at least on the low setting), which puts me at ease having is only 1ft from the wall in a corner of my little room. It is also quiet enough that I can watch TV and listen to music at pretty conservative volumes (I have roommates and like to watch TV in bed at night w/ this heater running).

Cons:

I was just looking at the unit and noticed the sticker on the bottom says the wattage is 800W/1200W... which is an extra 200W on the lower setting than advertised on both the box and on the site. This is a little disappointing, but not a total deal breaker. Also, the unit does not have any safety features (that I can see). It does not have tip-over protection, which leads me to believe it probably doesn't ahve overheat protection either... I can't be sure on this, but a quick skim of the brochure it came with didn't really tell me much.

Over, a decent heater if you don't plan to leave it running all the time while unattended; and if the 800W low setting isn't a deal breaker. It would be nice if that spec was changed on both the box and the site.

Wow this thing really cranks out some serious heat. It uses less energy than most ceramic heaters and is very stylish. I leave it on low and am wowed by its ability to heat a room up. The build quality is second to none. I love that it has a quality dust filter on back that will make for easy cleaning. My only complaint would be that the front grill get super hot making it difficult to pick up when it is on. If they made a little handle or recess in the back to help protect your fingers it would get 5 stars hands down!!!

Honest reviews on Crane EE-6490 Space Heater 600/1200 Watt

Amazon carries another heater by the same maker as this one, it is the "Crane EE-6353 Space Heater 600/1200 Watt". The Product Features and Details seem to be switched on these two. At least this is my assumption; check them both out and you will probably agree.

For instance, the larger one is probably the one that is 20" tall, and the smaller one 8.6" tall. Another important difference: the smaller one probably does not come with a remote, but the larger one probably does.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Crane EE-6490 Space Heater 600/1200 Watt

This is a 800/1200 watt unit not 600/1200 if it matters to anyone. It is 8" high by 3.25" deep by about 6.75" wide. The picture and model number are now correct on Amazon. No, it does not have a remote.

Someone posted that this unit has tip-protection, but it does not (I just tried it). Disconcerting, but i'll live with it. If anyone is wondering, as it was a selling point for me, the construction is mostly metal (case & grate at least, impressive in a sea of plastic heaters), and the case does not get hot despite the warning sticker on top of the unit.

I am pleased with the performance, even though I'm downgrading from a Pelonis 4-ceramic-disk heater (It was my parents', I moved out, it stayed), and upgrading from a temporary [crappy] Lasko 'milk-house' style heater Wally World special. I wanted to get a Pelonis, but the company seems to barely acknowledge it's existence anymore and I didn't want to drop down 70 Washingtons for it. While the Pelonis is still superior to this unit, I think this little Crane comes pretty close, and I'll echo other reviews here for quiet operation and for heating up a 10x10 room pretty well. I suspect the only reason the Pelonis seemed to work better was due to more infrared heat put out of the unit and more air forced through the heating element (same fan size, but higher speed, your trade-off is loudness though).

Keep in mind that the vast majority of 'ceramic' heaters, including this one, don't use perforated ceramic plates, the kind used in the Pelonis and good infrared saunas (I have one, the plates in the heating units are similar to the Pelonis disks). To be honest, I don't even see where the 'ceramic' part comes into play with the Crane, it just looks like a metal element. But again, it still heats well, and for less than 35 dollars, it's hard to beat when accounting for it's size.

The Sper Scientific thermometer is a 'recording minimum maximum' device in that the highest and lowest temperatures experienced by the unit are set by little 'floats' inside the glass tube. As the temperature rises, the mercury climbs (in the right leg of the U-shaped tube) and the float is pushed higher. The float remains in the highest position as the temperature, and the mercury, fall. The mercury retreats to and rises in the left leg to indicate the lowest temperature... and the float in that left leg will be remain at that lowest temperature reading.

The included magnet, attached by a cord to the thermometer, is used to reset the floats--hopefully after the user has marked down the readings.

This is solid instrument and I recommend it for back-yard weather enthusiasts.

This is a clever device that uses two thermometers to record the high and low temperatures in a space like a greenhouse, or a garage, or a hen house. Little floats inside the columns are reset with a magnet on a string. I like it especially because it is such an elegant low-tech time-tested solution. It looks terrific and if you think you need one, get two, because you will want another one for sure.

I chose this "old school" version over the many digital varieties because there's not much that can go wrong with it. The housing is fairly study plastic, so unless you hit it with a hammer, it's likely to last a long time. It's simple, easy to read, and it helped me get my plants in the ground earlier than if I had just listened to the weather reports, since it gave me a reading at the level of my raised bed garden soil. Since I'm planning on setting up a hoop house, this will be a great tool, not only for monitoring overnight frost, but also for peak temperatures in the summer when extra shade and ventilation will be required.

After reading the poor reviews on the electronic remote sensor types, and experiencing disappointment with one I purchased, this seems to be an accurate though less convenient alternative.

Good product. Only needed to run 3 hours on diesel when it got really cold. Puts out fumes but that was to be expected.

We may try kerosene next winter, if we can find it!

Looks high quality, packaged well.

One neat feature we did not except was the unit iself (the black part) is cool to the touch even while its blowing out MASSIVE heat. We are pleased with this purchase and the temperature thermostat works well and is pretty responsive. It is noisy, but to be expected with the amount of heat/pressure. We have had temperatures in the 0 to 20 degree range and on the lowest setting it keeps our shop around 57 degrees. We could heat it up to 80 if we wanted to pretty quick, but are being conservative with the diesel fuel we are using to keep costs down. We went through 2 heaters before we found this one, we will keep it!!

I purchased this heater last winter and it worked very good. This year it won't start, spark is ok but no fuel coming up into combustion chamber. After some tinkering with the heater it eventually went to the junk yard.

I use this to heat my uninsulated 24x40 shop. Its loud, its noisy but man does it make it warm. Down side is finding that I have to leave a door cracked to keep from getting light headed from exhaust fumes.

This heater heated my 30X50ft garage in the winter

with no problem. I burn #1 fuel oil in it and it does not

give off any odor.

I like the idea of a built in thermostat and also a pump

pressure gauge. It is a bit noisy and does like its fuel

but all in all I would recommend it to anyone.

Pros: Big interier space, comes with all cooking accessories, easy to assemble, clear instructions. Cools of quickly, has a setting for the door to be open about 1/2 inch.

Cons: Black on silver makes the dials hard to read, The three settings (bake, brown and toast) are not defined in the manual. First time burning off the chemicals on the elements is VERY smokey! Smelled like I was melting a GI Joe in the thing! Set off my smoke detector it did!

Conclusion: An excellent buy for the money! Keep an eye on it (use a seporate timer until you get used to it) I had a potpie that went from perfect to slightly burned in 30 seconds (set off my smoke detector again)

This is my 2nd purchase of this toaster oven. The size is good particularly like the crum tray and the extra cooking pan/tray. This item gets daily use in my home and stands up well. The only problem I had was finding my replacement THANKS Amazon! Recommend this product.

we need a toaster-oven that actually toasts, this one isn't very good. There is no toast button, only the timer which is used for the oven. It is hard to get the timing right and it takes forever to toast because the elements are so far away. The oven feature is fine.

Honest reviews on Maxi-Matic ETO-180 Elite Gourmet Toaster Oven

I wanted a small oven to make chicken nuggets for my grandson(the microwave didn't do very good) And for small things it is great because I don't have to heat a big oven. It looks nice on the counter. No problems with it at all I'm glad I have it.

I spent probably 12 total hrs looking at toaster ovens before I decided what I really wanted was an oven toaster. Then came another 8 hrs to find the right one which included visits to store, multiple websites and online retailers. I finally found this one quite by accident and bought from my preferred provider Amazon (cheapest price, no shipping and no taxes). My wife makes what she calls cheesy toast. She first toast the slices in our BD toaster and then used to put the cheese on it and put it in the oven on broiler till the cheese melts. This has already saved me electricity and not heated up the kitchen, I reheated my sliders from Chilis as well as reheated my fried chicken which used to get mushy in the microwave. I am looking forward to baking potatoes, breaded fish, chicken strips and preformed hash browns. My wife does NOT like appliances on the counter but she said this is OK as it looks great (we do have the under the counter storage space for it). I almost bought a $165 one that had a bulge in the back to accomodate a 12" pizza but why? I like what they did with the crumb tray-putting it inside and so simple to remove. There is no cookbook and the instructions are spotty but if you've ever had a toaster oven you get the hang of this one real quick. If you are looking for a toaster oven, don't buy this one. But if what you really want is an oven toaster this is the one.

I live in an old victorian 3 story home that is very expensive to heat. I purchased one of these duraflame heaters to try out. I was very surprised at the amount of heat this little dynamo put out!!!! I went back and purchased a total of 6 of theses units for use throughout my home. I live in the cold mts of Pa and can't say enough good things about this product. Buy one and your be convinced like I was!!!

Bought this from an Amazon competitor on sale very cheap...think it was a $7.99 deal. Heats very well as good as the popular Lasko which I usually buy. The problem with the Duraflame is that it is VERY NOISY. A quality issue as I think the fan hits an edge, unbearable noise, tilting the fan with a shim under the unit sometimes takes the noise away.

Hunter Universal 7-Day Programmable Internet Thermostat with Iphone App
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

The company made a business decision to discontinue the product and cut off the Web interface, so they are virtually inoperable. They gave consumers one month to file a refund, purchase and install a new thermostat.

I have called their customer service number (888-830-1326 x5) multiple times over the past month and have waited over an hour on hold with no one taking my call...

I have these units installed in my winter home, which I will not be back into until sometime in October, but the service is discontinued in August. I will NEVER buy a Hunter (or any other brand they own) product because of how horrible their customer service is!

I loved this device, and had it for a few months and then I got an email from Hunter last month saying the website and Iphone App supporting this device will be De-activated on august 1st, the good part is they offered me my purchase price back plus any taxes and shipping so that I can buy me one from another Brand, they sent me a visa gift card and I just received it today....Thanks Hunter I hate to see you go

Best Deals on Hunter Universal 7-Day Programmable Internet Thermostat with Iphone

Do not waste your money. I have 2 of them. One is upstairs on a heat pump and the other is downstairs on a conventional unit. They use proprietary wireless that does not work with anything else. You can't set the clock, it has to get the time from the Internet and that takes days. The schedule randomly turns itself off. The internal temperature of the house does not update. Commands from the app sometimes go through and sometimes they don't no telling. Get a Nest or a Honeywell unit.

Honest reviews on Hunter Universal 7-Day Programmable Internet Thermostat with Iphone

It took a little longer than 5 minutes to install but it does its job. It is a worthwhile purhase.

Buyer beware! If you plan to use this thermostat to control a Heat Pump, note that this thermostat will not show when "2nd Stage Heat" (Aux. Heat). is in use.

I consider this a major design flaw for a device that Hunter advertise can operate any eqquipment, including Heat Pump.

Also, the web site has glitches on the "Span" control and "Time" adjustment page.

I discovered that "Aux Heat" comes on every time the heat is on, so your heating bill will hit the roof. Definitely not a thermostat for heat pump.

Intermatic FF12HHC 12-Hour Spring Loaded Wall Timer, Brushed Metal

This was our seventh Intermatic spring-loaded timer 6 on fans and one on a heat lamp. They all seem to be about the same quality. They are now made in Tunisia. Intermatic makes timers with mini-cover plates, which fit in single or multi-gang electric boxes. This model is designed to fit only a single gang box, since it includes a full single-gang cover plate.

The electric box this device is to be installed in needs to be at least 2.5" deep; and deeper is better. This is because the device is nearly 2" deep and you'll need room for the house wiring. The timer fits snugly (height / width) in a steel electric box, so there's no room for wires on the side. This timer is for single-pole installations only. It won't work to replace a 3-way switch, such as found at the top & bottom of a staircase.

Although the product title says brushed metal, the cover plate is metallic-colored plastic.

These are NOT totally silent timers. I took the timer mechanism out of its Bakelite case once they are 100% mechanical, similar to a wind-up alarm clock. Listen carefully and you can hear the timer gears whirring and clicking. That's fine if it controls a fan that itself makes some sound, but if it's for a light in a quiet room, the timer sound is more obvious. Also, when it shuts off, there's an audible snap. I wouldn't recommend any wind-up timer for a bedroom where you're trying to sleep. For a silent timer, consider a product such as the Woods 59014 Decora Style 12-8-4-2 Hour Preset Wall Switch Timer, White, 12-Hour

This timer has no external installation wires. To connect it electrically, remove ½" of insulation from the house wiring; tighten the hot lead under the bottom connector and the lamp or fan wire under the top connector. (Reversing these two wires on the timer works and is perfectly safe, although the National Electric Code says to put hot wires on the lug where the switch says it belongs.)

If your timer doesn't behave as described below, return it immediately for a refund or replacement. All seven of our timers work as they should -i.e., turn the knob:

clockwise to turn the power on to a set time (you're supposed to turn past 2, then set it)

counter-clockwise to reduce the time remaining

fully counter-clockwise to turn power off

If the knob should ever crack, call Intermatic and ask for a replacement. They'll probably send you one for free...

Pleasant Hearth 23-Inch Lowell Cherry Electric Fireplace
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

Really beautiful high quality dark cherry (and heavy) furniture which enhances the room even when not turned on. The flames are surprisingly much more realistic than I expected but the glowing coals in front appear to lack depth and consequently realism. Heater works well to add secondary heat to a medium sized room but fan can be a bit noisy.

The remote control is very small and works only when it wants to.

Assembly took an hour or so. Assembly Instructions understandable (and also available on line). Ships in two boxes; one for the mantel (this is the part that must be assembled) and one for the electric flame/heater box.

This identical piece is also know as Pleasant Hearth Macomb Electric Fireplace depending on the vendor (ie BJs).
