So far this coffee pot has worked great! It came with the cleaning tool, and that is very helpful. I would have liked for it to come with the piece that made it sit higher or at least show a link for where I could purchase that piece, I think it makes it look more complete.

This is a good fryer as far as it goes. It works nicely, has some good features that make it easier to clean than an old-fashioned bucket-type fryer. But it has a glaring design flaw. The heating unit attaches to the metal frame using a plastic bracket. If that bracket breaks and, believe me it will the unit becomes useless. That heating unit has to be securely attached to the frame in order to operate and once that bracket cracks, there is no way to operate the unit. Might as well flush $89 down the toilet. I am on my third unit and it has happened every time. I recommend avoiding this machine until DeLonghi replaces the plastic bracket with a more durable metal one. With that change, I would give this unit a clear five stars.

We had a major crisis in our house the other. You guessed it, the deep fryer broke. Wholly smokes has the field of deep fryers changed in the few years since I purchased one. I thought I might have to go back to college to figure out what I needed... So I took a risk and purchased the DeLonghi. Normally I do not like to buy things I can not pronounce, but hey, not having any deep fried chicken makes a man go crazy.

I was disappointed on opening the box, I thought it looked too small. I was planning on sending it back, but I really needed a chicken fix, so I filled 'er up with Emge lard (no California tofu eaters in this house) dunked a chicken in the basket and I had room for fries too!

Wholly smokes! This thing is awesome. Next test, hamburgers on the grill. What goes with hamburgers? you guessed it, Newcastle Ale, but fries sometimes work too. So I cut up some tators and I was able to fill a double basket full of tators!

Long to short, excellent product. Cooks great the capicity is a actually large. Twice as much as my older round "presto" average joe deep fryer. We are very happy with this product and would highly recommend it.

From the ease of use to the ease of cleanup, this is an excellent Deep Fryer. It heats up in less than 15 min and the easy oil drain is a plus. It disassembles easily and every thing but the heating element can be put in the dishwasher.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi D14522DZ Dual Zone 4-Liter Deep Fryer

... I've had absolutely no problems. Like Jimmy, below, our old 10-12 year fryer simply stopped heating, so I needed a new one and yeah, Southern Fried Chicken was first on the list.

Why this one? It was difficult to choose a fryer because there are so many of them. This model had generally good reviews and I didn't need the timer on the upscale models.

A lot of oil? Yup, about a gallon. The advantage is that the oil temperature is better maintained when adding food.

Temperature accuracy? I preheated to 250 (F) and 350 using my instant probe thermometer to check the temp at both points. Typically, it was +/4 degrees at both points. That's certainly about as accurately a temp as can be set with the knob.

Ok, so how does it cook? I set the temp to 350. While preheating, I cut up a 3.75 pound broiler-fryer. I coated the chicken in flour, salt and pepper. Ran it through a light egg wash (two eggs, milk and Tabasco sauce) and then coated it in flour again. I fried up the chicken in two batches so as not to overload the fryer. Each batch went into the oven on "keep warm" on a rack in a baking sheet (never use paper towels). Then, I cranked the temp all the way up and dumped in some frozen French fries. My wife said the chicken was the best she had. We had some of the left overs cold the next day and they were virtually grease-free.

So, what about the dreaded cleanup? Actually, it was pretty easy. Obviously, the oil has to cool down. I put my empty 1 gallon oil container in the sink with a kitchen funnel in the top. I inverted a fairly large, tall pot next to the sink. I put the fryer on the pot and extended it so the oil drain was over the funnel and opened the drain. The oil drained no leakage. Remove the heater, use a soapy sponge to clean it and rinse. All of the 'glump' stays in the bottom of the oil container. Scrape it out into the garbage and wash the container with soapy water. Done. Of course, if you're going to fry a lot, you don't have to clean it out every time. That's where the "Dual Zone" part works well.

Summary? No oil leaks, no doors that won't stay closed, the magnetically attached power cord didn't fall off, the temp was accurate and it's reasonably easy to clean. What more can I say? Yeah, I know, I've already said too much ;-)

Enjoy.

The best part of this fryer is it's ease of cleanup being that the oil is easilly drained, and the pan that holds the oil comes out. Also the element disconnects so you can really clean this thing. The unit will not turn on if the heating element isn't attached properly which is a nice safety feature. The outside doesn't get as hot as I thought it would though I'm sure you could still burn yourself if you touched it for any long period of time.

Bought a new 175,000 BTU Mr. Hazard and used about five times...then nothing but a nightmare. It starts up and blows smoke, soot and sprays kerosene all over the place...after about two minutes of horrific health hazards, fire department enroute and a crowd gathering...it finally starts, but still burns your eyes, throat, skin...and this is while operating outside.

I checked the air pressure, which was not the problem...Nothing appeared dirty because its BRAND NEW, but i still cleaned cad cell, cleaned spray nozzle, in/out air filter, fuel filter, triple checked pressure, inspected all hoses, fresh kerosene, inspected wire connections...used multi-meter to check control box, igniter assembly, pretty much overhauled the entire unit and nothing is indicating a malfunction...

I'm going to throw it off of a bridge...then give it to someone i hate...you couldn't GIVE me a Mr. (C)heater...If you offered me $400.00 to take a brand new Mr. Heater, I would elect amputation of all extremities...if I had to choose between hypothermia or a Mr. (S)Heater, I would get my affairs in order...

Severe frost bite couldn't be worse then the chemical warfare this device delivers...

...I'd rather freeze!!!

I was disappointed in the fact that all the internal pieces were made of aluminum. It claims that the pot is stainless steel, but it is not 100 percent. Even the inside of the pot itself seemed to have a coating that was material other than stainless steel.

To be transparent we bought this product to heat water for tea and other hot beverages for extended periods of time during our retreats.

It worked really well but was a little noisy while it "percolated" getting the water hot.

I am very satisfied with the product but cannot speak to it's ability to make coffee as we will not be using it for that purpose.

This coffeemaker is probably used commercially as it doesn't provide any instructions for the best type of ground coffee to use or if you need to use a filter and if so what size. Simple instructions would have helped prevent a big problem during a party when the grounds were too small and plugged up the maker resulting in a big mess. The last thing a host needs in the middle of a party of 85 people.

I purchased two of these units both failed after a few weeks. Problem was identical the units would work fine, but when shut off, would not power on again. The indicator light might blink, but then nothing.

I have found the problem is the cheap, polished 2 prong power plugs on these heaters. After a few uses they do not conduct enough current for the electronic control to be able to apply full power to the element.

The fix? Simple. Use an emory board to "roughen up" the plug power prongs so that a decent contact is made when the plug is inserted in the outlet. Then, buy a decent three conductor, grounded power cord and replace the AC cord entirely. At least, cut off the cheap power plug and replace it with a good plug with conductors that can carry the current needed.

If you can't do this competently, take the units to someone qualified to perform the repairs. Obviously, poor electrical connections can cause fires and would, if these units didn't have the "smarts" to see the faulty power and shut off the unit entirely.

We bought this heater for our living room to try to avoid using our central gas heating very much this winter. Our living room is fairly large, and this heater is doing a pretty good job so far. We closed doors so that it's heating just our living room and kitchen, and it has stayed very comfortable for the most part. There have been a few nights though where it was a little colder (in the 20s and 30s we live in Georgia!) and it did seem a little chilly in the room, but not COLD. We haven't noticed any significant change in our electric bill either, and we run this heater almost 24/7. Overall, it's a decent heater for keeping our living area comfortable, but if you live in an area that gets very cold, this may or may not work well for you (depending on the area you want to heat and the insulation of your home).

***UPDATED*** 12/15/09

It was nice while it lasted. We woke up this morning and the heater was off. We tried everything, and nothing would get it to turn back on no buttons worked, unplugging it and then plugging it back in didn't work, nothing. It worked well for the month that we had it, and now it just suddenly died.

I purchased two of these last year ('08). I had to take one back to the store because it failed, but the replacement worked perfectly. I click the auto temp to 65 degrees and my rooms are warm (I also have 12' ceilings). I used these in place of the baseboard oil heat (when oil was $4 a gallon) and my heating bill was about $350 a month through the cold northeast Pa. winter. Oil would've been about $1000 a month.

I am buying 2 more to replace other models I tried that just don't work as well as these.

Honest reviews on Sunbeam SLP3310-UM Low-Profile 1000/1500-Watt Convection Heater

This unit has changed the way I heat my home in the winter.

I live in Minnesota in a commercial loft with 12' ceilings, 10' windows and hardwood floors. Heating this place evenly can be a challenge! However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that a few of these heaters were up to the task; they've made all the difference for me. I had been relying on my natural gas forced-air furnace, but the ceiling registers were too high in the air to heat the place evenly. Placing a few of these along the walls areas gave me nice, even heat throughout the apartment and sharply reduced my furnace's workload.

Even with all the cubic space created by 12' ceilings, a single heater can handle an impressively large area: each unit heats about 250-350 sq ft in my home and it doesn't seem to have a hard time keeping up. The programmable thermostat allows you to toggle-select temperatures from 65-85 (in 5-degree steps), the automatic shut-off timer has settings for 4, 8 and 12 hours. The energy saving feature cycles the wattage to save electricity consumption over a long period of time. This does reduce the heat produced (despite the claim that there is no noticeable difference) but the reduction is slight enough that I consider it a pretty good trade-off.

Outside it's variable "energy saving" mode, the unit uses a continuous 1500 watts and about 12 amps. The unit doesn't seem to be fragile and looks/feels well made. Dependability hasn't been an issue for me at all, and I now have three of these that I've pretty much been running continuously. These units are also pretty light and easy to move: there's even a small hand grip on each end to make it easy to grab. The claim that this is a silent heater is absolutely true you won't hear it at all except for some soft metallic expansion "pops" from the metal grate as it initially heats up. The size is pretty manageable also. It's about as wide and tall as the boiler drawer beneath a standard oven and is about as thick as a box of Kleenex.

All in all, I've been really pleased with these heaters. For a pretty small investment, they've made my home much more comfortable this winter and haven't been intrusive while doing so.

I bought this item from another vendor in person and paid a little less than Amazon's list price. So far so good though with this heater. It was easy to get startedjust remove the packaging materials and plug it in. At first, like your furnaces, the unit smells as it heats up. It puts out a fair amount of heat too. I am using mine in combination with a second space heater to avoid turning on the gas furnace as long as possible. I have a small home so it's nice and warm. I would recommend this to people who have a small space to heat. I'll be testing it in the basement soon. That is also the reason for only 4 stars. I really haven't had it long enough to put it through all of it paces yet. Once I do, and I expect it to pass with flying colors, I see myself getting one more possibly.

If anything changes I will post an update.

Well like everyone else says, this product is ok for temperature but leaves a lot to be desired for reading humidity. This being said, with a few mods it works fine as a hygrometer. I added a few more holes with a drill approx 1/8" and now it actually reads humidity quite well. I added a total of 13 holes around the unit, 5 on each side and 3 on the bottom. Now it adjusts the humidity reading every 15-20 seconds and levels out in about 10 minutes and actually reads the right humidity when compared to my dial hygrometer. So this tells me that there is a design flaw with the amount of air flow allowed by the factory vents, thus not allowing the unit to process the volume of air needed to make accurate readings.

ok had it a week and like another reviewer stated the LCD readout has gone blank in a few spots. not dim just not there anymore. Its junk. Off to buy another Hygrometer from someone else.

Bought 2 of these the other day. Opened them up, put in the battery, and they were ready to go. I bought two of them so I could install them in each of my childrens bedrooms so I could tell the range of the temp and humidity each of thier rooms. First I put these next to my house thermostat which has a current temp and humidity displayed. After 1 hour of being in the same room right next to the thermostat both of the Cheney units read exactly what the temp was, and the humidity on both units were the reading the exact same (7 units higher) then my house thermostat. I don't know if my house unit is accurate or not but at least the two Cheney units read the same for temp & humidity. If they read differently than each other than I would say they weren't accurate but since both read the exact same things I give them two thumbs up and agree this is a great buy, especially since it displays the current temp and humidity and displays the daily low/high for each. Great Product!!!! Small, lightweight, has magnet on back to stick to fridge or can use clip to attach it to belt, or anything it can clip to. It also can be placed on a desk, shelf, etc but standing it on end with the attached stilt.

I bought this same hygrometer packaged as Acu-Rite brand from a Mill's Fleet Farm for $9.99 more than a year ago. I've always had it turned on since then, and I've never had to change the batteries. I tested the unit not long after I bought it and again just yesterday (using the NaCl and distilled water test and the Boveda humidipak kit) and after 8 hours the display stabilized at 75% just as it should. I also made a Potassium Carbonate test and it was stable at 43% after ~18hrs. This is great to see from a $10 unit. I've traveled with this product and it has held up through that as well. I've never tested the accuracy of the thermometer, as I mainly bought this instrument to read RH in an instrument (guitar) room, and guitar cases. I've also owned "The Weather Channel" brand weather stations with built in hygrometers that were more than twice the cost of this product, and found them to read more than 10% off when testing.

Maybe I got lucky and happened to buy a accurate unit, but from my experience with this I highly recommend buying yourself one.

PS I have since had relatives buy these units and they were not as accurate as the one I bought, so I guess I really might have just been lucky. The other units seemed to report higher humidity then existed (when RH was 40%, they showed +3-5%, which is considerable). The plus side is that they don't seem to get worse over time, so if you know the unit to be off by a certain amount, you should be able to predict the actual RH.

Honest reviews on AcuRite 613 Indoor Humidity Monitor

We use a number of these in our cabinet shop and at job sites. Despite other's complaints about accuracy, we have found them to be quite reasonable, especially considering their low price. If you put ours side by side they will all stabilize to within a few percent of each other. They are small, yet the display is very easy to read. They use only a single AA battery. The only down side is that the 24 hour high and low display is not resettable without taking out the battery, but that's only a down side if you are looking for min/max in a time frame other than 24 hours.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for AcuRite 613 Indoor Humidity Monitor

A cap full of salt in a baggie with your hygrometer will give you the plus or minus that your hygrometer is off. That's all you need to know to be accurate with your readings. The salt is always 75%. If your hygrometer reads 82%, then its reading +7. Simply subtract 7 from your hygrometers reading to get the actual humidity. It's really that simple.

Cheers

that is identical to the above model, minus the enamel:

I worked in restaurants as a kid and I know a great deal about fryers and correct frying temperatures. When I set my unit to its max, indicated to be 374 degrees F, I found that my fries were not coming out as nicely as when I used an old frying pan and thermometer. I then immersed my thermometer in this unit, once the indicator light showed it was at temp, and found that the oil was actually at 340 degrees F. The extra thirty-four degrees can make all of the difference between greasy fries and light, crispy outside, fluffy inside, fries.

This unit doesn't give you the option to calibrate the thermostat system using a grease thermometer. Professional units do have that feature.

Until you can get optimum frying temps, you will not get optimum quality deep-fat fried foods. It really is that simple: Frying at lower temps does not flash finish the outside of foods quickly enough for the grease to be kept from penetrating the interior of what you're frying. The end result gives you fries that are sorta/kinda done, outside, and sorta/kinda greasy inside. Not good. Stand by for an update-----

UPDATE: 8/9/13: I did tweak this unit, and I got 375 degree temps and delicious fried food. I'm enjoying perfectly fried onion rings as I type this. The problem is, I can't tell you how I did the tweak as it gets into overriding fail safes on the unit. That could get you into big trouble. By association, I could open myself up to liability issues, and that's not going to happen.

All in all, I cannot recommend this unit. If you're simply wanting a unit that will do a professional job of deep frying food, at the correct temperature, you will need to look for another unit.

This is a good fryer, easy to operate and easy to clean. The only problem I found is that the cover is a little awkward to remove when the fryer is hot as the basket has an area around the handle

that slips into the cover and kind of sticks there. Other than that, it is a good item. Makes great fries.

I'm afraid that I must echo what other customers have complained about. I think we deserve more for the money in this case. The temperature table on the side of the ready button is inadequate and hard to view. There should be a timer. I had to go purchase a kitchen timer that I've never had to use before for any appliance. The user manuel is glaringly deficient and does not even describe how to filter the oil for this model. There are no starter recipes for this deep fryer and that would have helped sort out the lack of other directions. This model was initially a high enough price prior to the sale price that one would certainly expect more and I found the T-fal customer service to be totally lacking in a personal response. I think that 3 stars is a generous rating for this T-fal product and the company it represents.

Intermatic FF12HHC 12-Hour Spring Loaded Wall Timer, Brushed Metal

This was our seventh Intermatic spring-loaded timer 6 on fans and one on a heat lamp. They all seem to be about the same quality. They are now made in Tunisia. Intermatic makes timers with mini-cover plates, which fit in single or multi-gang electric boxes. This model is designed to fit only a single gang box, since it includes a full single-gang cover plate.

The electric box this device is to be installed in needs to be at least 2.5" deep; and deeper is better. This is because the device is nearly 2" deep and you'll need room for the house wiring. The timer fits snugly (height / width) in a steel electric box, so there's no room for wires on the side. This timer is for single-pole installations only. It won't work to replace a 3-way switch, such as found at the top & bottom of a staircase.

Although the product title says brushed metal, the cover plate is metallic-colored plastic.

These are NOT totally silent timers. I took the timer mechanism out of its Bakelite case once they are 100% mechanical, similar to a wind-up alarm clock. Listen carefully and you can hear the timer gears whirring and clicking. That's fine if it controls a fan that itself makes some sound, but if it's for a light in a quiet room, the timer sound is more obvious. Also, when it shuts off, there's an audible snap. I wouldn't recommend any wind-up timer for a bedroom where you're trying to sleep. For a silent timer, consider a product such as the Woods 59014 Decora Style 12-8-4-2 Hour Preset Wall Switch Timer, White, 12-Hour

This timer has no external installation wires. To connect it electrically, remove ½" of insulation from the house wiring; tighten the hot lead under the bottom connector and the lamp or fan wire under the top connector. (Reversing these two wires on the timer works and is perfectly safe, although the National Electric Code says to put hot wires on the lug where the switch says it belongs.)

If your timer doesn't behave as described below, return it immediately for a refund or replacement. All seven of our timers work as they should -i.e., turn the knob:

clockwise to turn the power on to a set time (you're supposed to turn past 2, then set it)

counter-clockwise to reduce the time remaining

fully counter-clockwise to turn power off

If the knob should ever crack, call Intermatic and ask for a replacement. They'll probably send you one for free...

I just bought this product after reading many reviews. I got the unit today, and it seems to be sturdy and good quality. My wife used it and she is quite happy with the heat output compare to other models we had in the past; cooking is a snap. However, for 1500 watts, I expected more heat. Also you should not expect to have as much heat as a normal range, considering normal range cost a lot more and normally 220 volts vs. 120 volts on this unit. On scale 0-10 as far as heat production compare to a normal range, I would rate it 8 out of 10. This should do for emergencies, extra cooking needs during holidays or if you need to cook something outside. A word of advice, if you buy this product or any of the burner/hot plate from any manufacture, test it using ground fault interference outlet i.e GFI; sometimes it is not grounded or tested right from the manufacture and will trip GFI circuit. If it happens, just reset the FGI circuit and obtain a exchange or refund, trust me nothing worth burning your house down or get electrocuted for. Hope this helps. Cheers!
