I bought this for an older relative who is more comfortable using a basic non-programmable thermostat. The unit is well made and the instruction manual was easy to follow. Installation was relatively easy and took about 30 minutes. The adapter plate was a plus as it allowed me to cover the footprint from the previous thermostat.

On the plus side, the unit should provide years of reliable service. On the minus side, the display is not easy to read even with the backlit feature. This came as a big disappointment and detracted from the value of the product.

I looked at every fake fireplace and settled on this one because of the size and the weight. We wheel it from the bedroom in the morning to the living room and back into the bedroom at night. We don't use the baseboard heaters at all anymore. It is easy to move around and heats up the room really quickly. The fire effect without the heat is really nice once the room is warm you can still enjoy the fire. I LOVE IT!

I purchased this waffle maker because I used one similar at a hotel. This model is terrible. It is really hard to get the handle lined up to shut it tight, difficult to swivel, & cooks unevenly. It's almost all plastic & the metal is cheap cheap cheap! My waffles were unevenly cooked & even after I greased the surface like mad, the waffles STILL stuck. I will be returning this product & you will too if you buy it.

This vacuum began to short out on me after just two weeks of usage. Now, I can't run it for more than 5 minutes at a time without it over-heating and shutting off on me. It takes AT LEAST a half hour before it will turn back on again. Not very conducive to a productive cleaning session!

An interesting note: The vacuum I had prior to this one was another Shark brand, but a different model. THAT vacuum lasted all of perhaps not quite one whole year before it began to lose suction.... and shortly thereafter, it completely died.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this vacuum at all costs! Find the money for a really good Hoover Wind Tunnel or an Oreck! These cheap vacuums or maybe it's just this Shark brand(???) are not worth the money.

We bought this for doing our hardwood, tile & vinyl floors, and have been nicely surprised! It's inexpensively priced, and does a great job. The turbo brush works well on furniture; it's light enough to lug up and down the stairs.

This vacuum is like a super DustBuster, all grown up. It's lightweight, but more powerful than a DustBuster style, plus it has a HEPA filter and is easy to empty. But, other reviewers are right -no good on carpets. Carpets really need an upright vacuum with a beater brush.

Now I have TWO vacuums. For years, I had a canister vac with an attachable beater brush, but I got tired of hauling it around. (If you have a canister, you know what I mean.) It was flexible, being good for both bare floor and carpet, but every time I switched floors, I needed to take on & off the beater brush. So I'd do all the bare floors, then add the attachment and do the carpets. I really like my current arrangement: this Euro-Pro Shark for bare floors, and an upright for carpets, both lightweight. I just haul out whatever I need, and there's no need for an equipment change.

Works great on hard surfaces and carpets. Customer Service is horrible, though. We enrolled in the "Shark Free Filter For Life" Program but haven't received a filter in over a year (the program stipulates one every 6 months). When I called the toll-free number, the agent was unfriendly and unknowledgeable. She never apologized once about the missing filters. When I asked what had happened, all she was willing to give me was that I didn't receive the filters because of "some technical problem." I would NOT get another Shark vacuum for this reason.

Honest reviews on Euro-Pro Shark EP602 Transformer Deluxe Bagless Stick Vacuum

I just use it on hardwood and tile and it still doesn't pick up cat hair basically it's a very noisy fake vacuum cleaner. The suction on it after 2 months of light use is about the same as a very soft breeze.

It sucked fairly well for about a week. Now it won't even suck up the smallest visible piece of tissue paper despite my having cleaned everything on the vacuum several times. I have contacted the company three times and they have never answered my email nor my postal mail. It is worthless as a vacuum since, as I said above, it won't pick up an extremely small piece of tissue paper, cat hairs, or anything else that I can see.

Lux Products TX1500E Smart Temp Programmable Thermostat

After researching thermostats, I replaced my builder-grade 1 week thermostats with a couple of Lux 1500E units. This was one of Consumer Reports' best buy models from last year (the other also a Lux). Additionally, I liked Lux's programming dial which simplifies programming; with the dial, there are fewer arcane button press combinations to deal with. Installation was simple and straightforward. The display on the 1500E is fairly large and has an electroluminescent back light that's activated by pressing any button. I'm farsighted but can read the display without my glasses. The 1500E is a 5-1-1 thermostat but also includes a "special" schedule that can used for vacation or holiday making this a 5-1-1-1 thermostat.

I found programming to be quick and simple and the unit works as advertised. I have one complaint and one quirk to mention. The complaint: The operating instructions aren't the best. In particular, there is precious little explanation of the "swing" function or what the swing numbers actually mean. I sent an email to Lux and received a phone call the next day with a thorough explanation. Fantastic customer service!! For the record, the swing setting numbers correlate to quarter degrees (the instructions should state this but don't). The default setting is 1 meaning the thermostat will cycle when the temperature deviates .25 degrees. Keeps the house temperature constant but heat or AC will constantly cycle. Setting the swing to 4 will cause heat or AC to turn on when temperature deviates 1 degree (4 X .25) from the set temperature. You can set the swing up to a value of 9 (2.25 degrees). Here's the quirk part: with my old thermostat, if I set the temperature to 69, the heat would turn on when the displayed temperature dropped to 68 and turn off when the displayed temperature rose to 70. The 1500E, with a swing setting of 4, doesn't work quite the same way. Even though displayed temp is 68, heat won't come on right away. It's almost as if the thermometer controlling the display isn't the same one controlling the thermostat itself. Either that, or a swing setting of 4 is working differently than I'm expecting. Please note, I do not find this a problem with the 1500E, just a little odd. Also note: most instructions accompanying thermostats are lacking.

Overall, I am very pleased with the Lux 1500E. It feels well built, has a nice display, and a competitive price. Add Lux's great customer support, and I'd highly recommend it.

I ordered three Lux TX1500E thermostats. Before installing I tested them for accuracy by placing all three Lux thermostats side by side, and comparing the temperature and humidity readings with two additional thermostats and hygrometers I know to be accurate.

All three Lux units displayed different temperatures from each other. One of the three units was accurate. The temperature is easy to calibrate by setting the dial to run mode, and while holding the up button, pressing the down button once. A screen pops up allowing the temp to be set plus or minus five degrees. In this case the temperature on one of the units was 2 degrees high, so I entered -2 on the calibration, and since calibrating the temperature readings have been accurate.

The humidity readings for all three units were initially off by up to 7 percentage points. The unit allows for calibration up to +/15 percentage points by setting the dial to run, pressing the H button, and while holding down the up button, pressing the down button once. After calibrating the units, they are still off by a couple percent, and occasionally display a ridiculous reading like 95% relative humidity (RH) when the actual RH is 50-60%, but for the most part the RH is close enough.

The humidity reading on the unit does not display automatically. The "H" button must be pushed to display relative humidity. To clarify, the thermostat runs off temperature only, i.e. there isn't an option to run the air conditioner until the relative humidity reaches a certain level.

The display on the unit is puzzling. On the left the time is displayed prominently, and in a much smaller font the temperature displays on the right. A more helpful display would be: Actual temp, Set temp, and actual humidity all in large lettering, and then the time somewhere off in a corner.

The reason I bought a programmable thermostat is for the swing function. My old thermostat would constantly cycle the a/c (on for only 5 minutes at a time) because it was turning on the unit when the temp hit 79.25 degrees and turning it off when it hit 78.75. This 1) damages the a/c equipment, and 2) does not allow the a/c units to run long enough for effective dehumidification to occur, since the a/c doesn't really start to dehumidify effectively until it has been on for at least 10-15 minutes. Without proper dehumidification, the house feels warmer than it is (i.e. it's not the heat, it's the humidity).

This Lux thermostat has a default swing function of 1, which means that if you set the thermostat on 79, it will turn on the a/c at 79.25 and turn it off at 78.75 degrees. The swing function can be set between 1 and 9. Using a 79 degree setting, a swing value of 4 means the a/c will turn on at 80 degrees and turn off at 78 degrees. A swing value of 8 means the a/c will turn on at 81 degrees and turn off at 77 degrees. I don't understand why the default swing is at 1 (i.e. .25 degrees). A setting of at least 4 (i.e. 1 degree) seems prudent for the health of the a/c equipment and humidity control.

Moving on, I purchased this Lux unit instead of a Honeywell because 1) Consumer Reports gave the highest rating of all tested thermostats to the Lux TX1500E, which rated much higher than the Honeywell units, 2) These are $40 vs. over $100 for the Honeywell units, and 3)I called tech support for both Honeywell and Lux. Honeywell routes you to an overseas call center staffed by people who barely speak English. Lux has a call back system, but they called back within two hours, and the guy I spoke with was intelligent and located in the U.S.

Before purchasing I also considered the Lux TX9000TS, which is a touch screen thermostat that received Consumer Reports' second highest rating, right behind this unit. I purchased the TX1500E instead because 1) better pricing, 2) I read the 1-star reviews on Amazon for both products, and the TX9000TS seemed to have more problems than the TX1500E, and 3) The manual dial/arrow key set on the TX1500E is more intuitive for me to navigate than a touch screen.

I found programming the thermostat to be easy, although a little tedious, as the program settings must be entered 4 times (once for weekdays, once for Saturday, once for Sunday, and last for Special Programs).

One feature I'm not thrilled with is the fan setting. The fan can be set on "auto", meaning it runs only when the a/c or furnace runs. The other fan setting is "on" meaning it runs continuously (potentially causing some major humidity problems during the cooling season in a hot/humid climate). What I would like to have seen is a "circulate" option for the fan, meaning if the a/c or furnace hasn't kicked on in the past 30 minutes, the fan will circulate the air for 5-10 minutes in order to improve indoor air quality.

With a fan setting of "on", let's say the a/c has run for 20 minutes and the a/c coil now has water dripping off it. If the fan keeps running without a/c, much of that condensed water on the coil is going to re-evaporate into the air that the fan is blowing over it, which will raise humidity, partially defeating one of the two functions of air conditioning (lower temp and lower humidity). At least this is what happens in humid climates such as Houston where I'm located. A "circulate" function on the thermostat would avoid this problem.

I did a ton of research before buying two of these thermostats to replace the typical round Honeywell ones. These are easy to install and are working well. I particularly like the ease of checking humidity levels, living in far Northern MN it is essential to keep the humidity level up during our winters. Easy to program and use.

Honest reviews on Lux Products TX1500E Smart Temp Programmable Thermostat

Replaced a Hunter thermostat which drove us crazy because it did what it wanted to do rather than what I wanted it to do. It was difficult to program and unecessarily complicated compared to the LUX. The LUX was easy to install and hasn't missed a beat since I put it in. Consumer Reports rated it a best buy.

I installed the Lux TX1500E Programmable Thermostat in my house a few weeks ago and it was straightforward to install, reasonably priced and had all the features I wanted. Installation was especially easy because the mounting slots on the Lux aligned with existing wall holes from my old thermostat. The package even included small lettered & numbered flags so I could tag existing wires (sticker 'W' on wire attached to terminal 'W,' etc.) before removing the old thermostat!

The TX1500E provides 5/1/1 (Mon-Fri/Sat/Sun) and 'Special' modes, each of which allows temperature programming changes at four different times. 'Special' mode lets you switch over to a range of settings that you've programmed for when you want to quickly override daily settings. I like the notched circle molded into the door which prevents the door from closing in 'Special' mode, a passive reminder which lessens the chance of you accidentally leaving it there long-term.

I am quite pleased with this thermostat and recommend it to anyone who wants a programmable thermostat with a solid, basic feature set. Choose a different model if you want to set Mon-Fri individually, or switch automatically between 'Cool' and 'Heat' modes: I have no need for either feature and appreciate the programming simplicity of this model.

Installation tips:

* The new thermostat as did the existing one rocked a bit on the wall when I pushed buttons. I felt this would eventually work the drywall screw anchors loose so I stuck two strip of thin foam on the back of the base horizontally above and below the screws before final installation: it now feels nice and tight on the wall!

* Internal clearance is tight so take extra care when routing wires and stuffing excess back into the wall or it's a pain snapping the main unit into the base. This was probably the most time-consuming stage of the installation.

Since this is the only product of its kind that I've used, it's difficult to confidently assert any opinion about it because I have nothing to compare it to-hence the wishy-washy middle of the road rating. Having said that, I'll share that the thermostat did not meet my expectations. I'm just not sure my expectations are reasonable. In replacing a simple on off switch on a gas fireplace, I was hoping to prevent the too hot/too cold cycle that results from my laziness (not wanting to jump up and turn the switch on and off frequently) as well as the wasted money from the occasional forgetting to turn off the fireplace at night. Unfortunately I've found that thermostat does not seem to be very sensitive and rather than turning it off and on within a reasonable temperature range, it stays on (and off) much longer than I would like. If there is a way to adjust the offset, I am unaware of it and do not see it in the instructions. The device is installed only about 3 feet from the fireplace, but it is on an outside wall, which could have something to do with the lack of sensitivity. Because it stays OFF longer than expected also, it's easy to trundle off to bed without realizing it's on....discovered only the next morning upon coming downstairs to a much too warm family room. There goes the savings! The responsibility, of course, remains mine...but so much for my plan!

Bought this to use on our gas fireplace in our mountain home. Earlier this year our furnace quit working due to a plugged vacuum switch allowing our cabin to get below freezing. We ended up with a couple broken valves and pipes. Fortunately we turn the water off when we are not there but had some water damage when we turned the water back on until we could find where the leaks were.

Installed this thermostat for the fireplace as a backup to the furnace. We set this at 45 degrees and the furnace is set at 50 degrees when we leave. So if the furnace goes out again the fireplace will come on at 45 degrees and when the limit-style temperature switch gets hot enough the blower fan will start. Tried it this last weekend and it takes about 15 minutes for the blower to start after the fireplace comes on and about 30 minutes to shutoff after the fireplace is turned off.

We purchased this a year ago from Sam's Club. It is wall mounted in the basement, and worked great, until right after the warranty ended. Now it is dead. No response from the controls at all. Not sure what we are going to do. Waiting for a reply from the Soleus.

This is a common problem with electronic thermostats on heaters. We have another heater with an electronic thermostat (another brand), and it failed once, thankfully under warranty.

I'm returning this today. It's heating range is about 1-2 feet if you're lucky. I have a tiled master bedroom and this heater did poorly to heat one side of the room. Trying to heat the living room is not even close. My biggest complaint is that this heater does not project heat. I'm going to get a heater that blows out the air.

DeLonghi DDH30 30-Pint Capacity Dehumidifier
Customer Ratings: 2.5 stars

The first DeLonghi 30-pint unit I received from Amazon looked great but did not function properly; the cooling unit that removes water from the air didn't work. I returned the unit for an exchange. (Amazon gets five stars for their excellent return process). The second unit arrived in good condition and worked for about 2 minutes before the compressor in the cooling unit stopped, never to start again. I tested the unit in an 80 degree bathroom at 100 percent humidity and it did not remove a drop of water from the air. The literature with the unit does not provide any help on this type of malfunction, but does give a Web site address ( The Web site had great graphics but no useful information. A note to the company asking if there was any way to solve the problem elicited a recommendation to return the unit.

The DDH30 dehumidifier appears well-made in other respects, but clearly there is a quality control problem with the refrigeration unit, or it is easily damaged during shipment. It appears impossible for a homeowner to open the unit to do any minor repairs, so the only alternative is to return units that don't work. An electrical schematic is located behind the removable water bucket, but isn't very helpful because there isn't any easy way to access the unit's innards. I notice that the controls for the DDH30 are more primitive than the larger models. Perhaps those more sophisticated units are more reliable, but I'm not taking the chance...

In my experience, the DDH30 dehumidifier -like the DeLonghi web site -looks great but isn't very useful.

I purchased it because it had a good name and my apartment had too much moisture. Once I set it up, the dehumidifier did not collect any moisture and runs very loud. We tried it for a few more days, but no moisture was collected. Had to return it. It was somewhat a hassle trying to use the same box to repack it.

Best Deals on DeLonghi DDH30 30-Pint Capacity Dehumidifier

I had been a satisfied owner of a DeLonghi dehumidifier that ran for years. When it finally went quit working, I wanted another DeLonghi and ordered this one. It arrived with a broken-off humidstat knob and a bent case, so I had to return it for a replacement. The replacement's water condensation unit didn't work at all (i.e., it didn't extract any water from the air). It also a small, strange ding that looked as if a heavy interior part of the machine had been thrown against the inside of the case so hard it made a reverse dent. I returned this DOA machine too, and asked for yet another replacement, but Amazon said no. Can't blame them.

It looks to me like the real problem is the ridiculously flimsy packaging, which isn't nearly sturdy enough to protect these weighty but somewhat fragile machines during shipment. Because of this, I cannot recommend ordering this item, even though for all I know the machine itself may be excellent if it isn't damaged in shipment.

I finally ended up ordering a different brand from a different vendor, and the difference in the packaging is worth describing. The DeLonghi machines arrived in only the manufacturer's original cardboard box. Inside the box were top and bottom styrofoam pads but just air around the sides of the machine. A couple of shipping straps helped hold the box together. The boxes were torn and gouged and in generally terrible condition on arrival; one looked like it had been taped up extensively to hold it together before it even shipped. But this "other" brand dehumidifier from a different retailer arrived with bubble pack and a second cardboard box around the manufacturer's original box, which itself had styrofoam protecting the machine on top, bottom, AND sides. The outside box had a heavy corner reinforcement splint along each of the four vertical corners and there were five shipping straps holding them in place. These splints extended beyond the top and bottom of the box, which had the effect of creating short legs so that the box itself didn't touch the floor very clever. The outside box had not so much as a dent. Now THAT's how to ship a machine like a dehumidifier, and sure enough, the one inside was cosmetically perfect and has been working just fine for the week since it arrived.

My Buffet station BCS997 also came with a loose part and a handle that was not attached properly. I purchased the $64 option and was not surprised that this station was, in all likelihood, a "second".

After having the station repaired I was pleased that the individual heating controls work so well. I'm wondering if the problems the other buyers had were because of the low price option.

I was very excited to get this buffet for Thanksgiving, but when I opened it up I was immediately disappointed when I saw that the middle heat control's was not poking out of the hole so that I could attach the knob. It was stuck behind the metal and I have not been able to pry it out.

I have not been able to utilize the middle station.

I guess I will just splurge a little next time and get a well made buffet that will last me for years.

First I am sure the other reviewer had a bad toaster. The one I got works fine. A slight press of the lever starts the toaster. The toast level control works fine as well. What I really like about this toaster is its ability to easily handle bagels with its extra wide slots. Most of the outside of the unit remains cool while toasting. It has a smooth finish and cleans easily with the wipe of a sponge. The bottom has a door that opens to remove accumulated crumbs. Finally, the price is a steal.

I had a wonderful toaster, for years that finally bit the dust. I went to a local store to replace my old faithful 'T-Fal Avante Deluxe' toaster. The store didn't carry T-Fal so being in a hurry I bought this Proctor Silex toaster. I immediately found out I had made a bad choice. I guess you get what you pay for. The toaster does not toast well at all. I had to turn the dial selector to almost the max to get it to toast the bread. It takes a long time to toast and does not toast evenly. I haven't even tried a bagel because it can't even handle bread. The knob you push down to toast does not stay down unless you slam it down, several times; if you don't it pops back up as soon as you let go of it. Don't waste your money, drive to another store if this is the only toaster they offer.

This toaster worked satisfactorily for several days. Then it refused to respond to pressure to pop up the bread before the setting was complete. Finally, with effort it would pop up, very high, and onto the counter. Later it would not toast at all.

Honest reviews on 2 Slice Cool Wall Toaster-Black

Before it broke in 10 months of sporadic use, it had been quite a disappointment. The short cord was coming out from the front, so I had to let it go around the toaster and use an extension cord to plug it in. Turning the knob down to zero didn't stop toasting I had to unplug the whole thing. And it didn't do a good job burning one side while barely toasting the other.
