The entertainment center is well built (quality wood pieces) and relatively easy to put together. It is also a very attractive piece of furniture. The reason I am only giving it a 4 star rating instead of a 5 is due to the side cabinet doors are open wood with no glass (which would have made it a much more attractive piece of furniture) and that the electric fire place was only "gold tone" fire flames and not very realistic looking. The fan on the electric fireplace was also quite loud and distracting. We replaced the electric fireplace with a 23" Spectra fireplace and added glass to the side doors and now we have the entertainment center we were looking for.

This item is stainless steel on the outside, but the interior sides of the unit are still plastic. In other words, they made it stainless for looks only. While it may be nice to get the stainless steel trays, you're better off getting the plastic version for $200 less and buying the trays to replace your plastic ones or going for another brand that is, in fact, completely stainless steel on the inside. Aesthetically, it's a beautiful unit on the countertop but the stainless part is a little misleading and so I'm disappointed.

I love this for making jerky. I like the stainless steel because it looks better in my wife's kitchen and now she's happy! It does have plastic inside, but that's not an issue for me. It was worth it to spend on the nicer looking unit. By the way, Excalibur's customer service is really nice too. I had some questions and they answered all of them. I learned that this is made in the USA in Sacramento California.

The Excalibur Food Dehydrator is just awesome. It is easy to use and I love the stainless steel trays, they make clean up a breeze. It does an excellent job of dehydrating our veggies from the garden.

I really like the stainless steel mesh. They clean up great and I feel they are sturdier and healthier than other kinds.

I have no idea what's the deal but I've ordered this twice now and twice I've been sent a stainless steel dehydrator with plastic trays instead of steel trays. I'm so sick and fed up with Amazon, that I'm going to just go through Excallibur to buy what I've ordered. Seriously recommend anybody else wanting the dehydrator to do the same.

Not only was it cheaper than other sites but it arrived very fast. My freezer was freezing up and I replaced the thermostat with this one and all is well now. The kit cam with two different mounting and one worked well with my fridge. The wires were very long so no matter what installation they would have been long enough, I just cut them a little to match the length of the old unit. The thing even came with crimp connectors and hear shrink tubing.

easy to install as well.

The fridge is working fine now and I saved a ton of money because I fixed it myself.

Replaced it with the Defrost timer at the same time.

Best Deals on Frigidaire 5303917954 Thermostat -Defrost

Out of the blue my fridge started acting up and eventually nothing would stay cold! After some research I figured out it was a defrost issue, but I didn't know which item needed fixing. I was just about to call for repair...but after finding out what it costs to have someone come up to the house just to look at the fridge I decided to buy the thermostat AND the defrost timer and replace them both (I tested the heating coil with a multi-meter so I knew that was OK).

For $25 I got both parts (and most of that was shipping b/c I expedited it), they arrived in 2 days, it took 25 minutes at max to replace both items and the fridge has worked perfectly for over a month.

You'd be silly not to go this route if you know you have a defrost issue...brand new parts for less than half the cost of a service call, let alone what they would charge you for the parts, etc.

And word to the wise...just go ahead and order both the timer and the thermostat I replaced the timer first and the thermostat went a few days later...better to just replace both at the same time IMO.

I like the Cadet products. These appear very well made, with good quality heating elements inside. I probably undersized mine because I had limited electric power capacity (60 Amps whole house), but, let 'em run. I hooked them up to Honeywell basic line-in thermostats on the wall. Mine are 240v 500 watt (uses about 2 amps). After the initial new smells burn off, they are quite pleasant. Installation, other than runniing all the wiring, was a snap.

Just installed this fan and am very happy with it. Quiet, moves plenty of air and relatively easy to install. One comment is the instructions don't emphasize that both the fan and the diffuser are directional, that is, they each have an opening which must face the other. If this is not noticed, either unit's housing would block the air flow towards the other unitTjernlund AireShare Room-To-Room Ventilator Hardwired, Model# AS1. Another thing to note is the possibility of a 'block' in the wall cavity. If one unit is mounted high and the other low, one needs to probe the cavity to make sure there is not a 2x4 block midway. The hard part of this installation is accessing and wiring power to the fan, which can involve cutting access holes in the wall and possibly installing a junction box. Not for the casual do it yourself person.

In short, a professional product and far better than the usual cheap, noisy bathroom fan.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

The first thing I noticed out of the box was surprisingly high quality (heavy motor) for the price. Yes, you can hear it, but that is to be expected a fan has a motor and moves air, both of which create noise. Don't expect it to BLAST air into the other room; it will be close to a light breeze, yet quite effective.

Like some others, I needed to move air from a very hot wood-stove heated room. Much of the rest of the house becomes cold once the thermostat is satisfied by the stove. It was pretty easy to install, just be careful to cut the holes in your walls to the exact size of the template. Also, it is easy to verify if there is a fire block/stop in your wall, but it will require making some holes: Before installation, drop a small chain or string with a weight tied to the end in a small test hole at the location where you intend to install the upper part of the system and check to see if it drops as far as a hole that you will need to make in the adjcent wall at the installation location of the lower end of the system. Before making any holes, be certain to make sure you are in the same framing bay!

To move heat, you will install the fan unit as high as possible on the the wall of the warm room. (Not too high or right against the ceiling or else it will look terrible and you run the risk of a framing obstruction 4-6 inches from the ceiling is about right.) Conversely, you will install the exhaust vent low on the wall of the cool room. You do this for obvious reasons: heat rises, so drawing air from high in the warm room and exausting it low into the cool room gives the best results.

Overall: Highly recommended.

I'm actually using this to transfer from one floor to the floor above it in an attempt to get the nice cool air from our walk-out into the hot family room during the summer.

The unit is not inexpensive, but it is quality made and shipped in a sturdy box to protect it.

Honest reviews on Tjernlund AireShare Room-To-Room Ventilator - Hardwired, Model# AS1

I tried using this ventilator to move the hot air near the wood stove to the adjoining room. The web site and product info did not offer any guidelines on room dimensions that this fan is good for. My rooms are way too big so it was a complete wrong fit. I think it is a good product but it needs much better advice on how to use it. I think it would work well for small rooms.

It was easy to install, but like other reviews I was thinking it would move more air. But we are using it for moving air from one floor to the next like the directions say not to. So over all please with it.

I bought this from another department store on Black Friday 2010, and it was great while it lasted. It was the right size for a single person, and I liked the basket and different temperature options. It would fry a basket of fries nice and crispy. However, here it is March, and I was prepared to fry up some fries today. It would not turn on. I unplugged it and plugged it back up. It still didn't do anything. The grease never got hot, and the little light on the side never came on. Fortunately, I got a great price back on Black Friday. So, no big deal. I got my money's worth. Still, I would not shell out any big money on this brand. From reading the other reviews, this product is not made to last very long.

Best DeLonghi DDH30 30-Pint Capacity Dehumidifier Deals

DeLonghi DDH30 30-Pint Capacity Dehumidifier
Customer Ratings: 2.5 stars

The first DeLonghi 30-pint unit I received from Amazon looked great but did not function properly; the cooling unit that removes water from the air didn't work. I returned the unit for an exchange. (Amazon gets five stars for their excellent return process). The second unit arrived in good condition and worked for about 2 minutes before the compressor in the cooling unit stopped, never to start again. I tested the unit in an 80 degree bathroom at 100 percent humidity and it did not remove a drop of water from the air. The literature with the unit does not provide any help on this type of malfunction, but does give a Web site address ( The Web site had great graphics but no useful information. A note to the company asking if there was any way to solve the problem elicited a recommendation to return the unit.

The DDH30 dehumidifier appears well-made in other respects, but clearly there is a quality control problem with the refrigeration unit, or it is easily damaged during shipment. It appears impossible for a homeowner to open the unit to do any minor repairs, so the only alternative is to return units that don't work. An electrical schematic is located behind the removable water bucket, but isn't very helpful because there isn't any easy way to access the unit's innards. I notice that the controls for the DDH30 are more primitive than the larger models. Perhaps those more sophisticated units are more reliable, but I'm not taking the chance...

In my experience, the DDH30 dehumidifier -like the DeLonghi web site -looks great but isn't very useful.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I purchased it because it had a good name and my apartment had too much moisture. Once I set it up, the dehumidifier did not collect any moisture and runs very loud. We tried it for a few more days, but no moisture was collected. Had to return it. It was somewhat a hassle trying to use the same box to repack it.

Best Deals on DeLonghi DDH30 30-Pint Capacity Dehumidifier

I had been a satisfied owner of a DeLonghi dehumidifier that ran for years. When it finally went quit working, I wanted another DeLonghi and ordered this one. It arrived with a broken-off humidstat knob and a bent case, so I had to return it for a replacement. The replacement's water condensation unit didn't work at all (i.e., it didn't extract any water from the air). It also a small, strange ding that looked as if a heavy interior part of the machine had been thrown against the inside of the case so hard it made a reverse dent. I returned this DOA machine too, and asked for yet another replacement, but Amazon said no. Can't blame them.

It looks to me like the real problem is the ridiculously flimsy packaging, which isn't nearly sturdy enough to protect these weighty but somewhat fragile machines during shipment. Because of this, I cannot recommend ordering this item, even though for all I know the machine itself may be excellent if it isn't damaged in shipment.

I finally ended up ordering a different brand from a different vendor, and the difference in the packaging is worth describing. The DeLonghi machines arrived in only the manufacturer's original cardboard box. Inside the box were top and bottom styrofoam pads but just air around the sides of the machine. A couple of shipping straps helped hold the box together. The boxes were torn and gouged and in generally terrible condition on arrival; one looked like it had been taped up extensively to hold it together before it even shipped. But this "other" brand dehumidifier from a different retailer arrived with bubble pack and a second cardboard box around the manufacturer's original box, which itself had styrofoam protecting the machine on top, bottom, AND sides. The outside box had a heavy corner reinforcement splint along each of the four vertical corners and there were five shipping straps holding them in place. These splints extended beyond the top and bottom of the box, which had the effect of creating short legs so that the box itself didn't touch the floor very clever. The outside box had not so much as a dent. Now THAT's how to ship a machine like a dehumidifier, and sure enough, the one inside was cosmetically perfect and has been working just fine for the week since it arrived.

Has worked for years. Wheels need to be stronger(plastic instead of rubber and one fell off) and a little bigger for moving it.

Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Guess I'll go in order of what was important to me when buying my first portable A/C unit.

Cooling: My residence has two large picture windows facing east and I'm on the top floor of the building. It gets blazing hot about 30 days a year here in San Francisco, so my place gets like an oven. So good cooling was critical. (If you are curious, without A/C on the hot days it would get a stifling 80 to 85 degrees in my rooms! Alas, that's the price I pay for having an otherwise full water view of the San Francisco bay, Bay Bridge and east bay foothills. The 15' x 10' windows provide a great view, but they act like magnifying glasses (even with blinds that block the heat, and a fully insulated ceiling). The only benefit of the heat in my place, as the old saying goes, "it is a dry heat." I am thankful for that because I HATE humidity.

I have always used window A/C units, about 5000 to 8000 BTU each, one in the living room, one in the bedroom. (My latest units were small 7000 BTU Panasonics. They work great and I simply figured it was time to replace them, being that they are about 2004 units.) Wanting to update I decided to get a portable unit, first for the bedroom, to see how it would perform.

This Haier unit gets the bedroom ice cold and if I leave the BR door open it cools the next room somewhat. How cool is that? Very. (Note: the BR is about 200 SF.)

Dependability: My Haier unit has been left on 24 hours, without incident. And I have had it for 18 months. I last used it about 8 months ago. When it got hot here a couple days ago I plugged it in, it fired right up and again ran 18 hours without incident. I was the coolest cat in town, literally and figuratively.

Set It and Forget It: I like the controls. I set it to the desired temp, the thermostat works perfect, cycling the cooling on and off according to the temp setting.

Features: While mainly concerned about cooling performance, I did want a unit with a remote, temp settings, thermostat (rather than a high, med, low switch), digital display, and fan speeds. This Haier comes with all these features.

Noise: While I did not want a unit that was super noisy, noise emission was not a critical factor. But I was pleasantly surprised that this Haier unit can operate quiet. Yeah, when the fan is set to full blast it is noisy, but hey, it is an A/C unit. If it is making lots of noise, that's because you are running it full blast. As an indication of noise level, if I have it running full blast and I'm in the next room, I don't notice it. I have to walk into the BR to see if it is on.

Keep in mind, however, an added benefit of the noise is that it acts as a white noise machine. You get used to the sound and it pleasantly drowns out City noise, which here in San Francisco there's a lot of. So when you set it on at night, it is like taking an Ambien. It lulls you to sleep. (It is kind of the same effect as falling asleep when on a jet, or on a train. The noise emissions of those travel modes can put you to sleep, so much so that my noise making machine has "train mode" where it sounds like you are in a train sleeping car., with the hum of the engines and clacking of the wheels on the rails.)

Value: I bought my unit on sale for about $270. What a great deal. I wish I had bought two of these units. Oh well, but I will buy another Haier unit because the Company has proven itself.

Portability: The unit is on wheels and actually quite easy to move around. While the footprint is somewhat large, hey, it is an air conditioner not a stereo. I was not expecting this to be the size of a microwave. In any event, it does roll around with little effort, although once you have this placed where you want (and where the tubing can vent hot air outside through a window) you are not going to be moving it much.

Bonus Tip: I am going to experiment with another one of these and run the exhaust hose up the stove hood. That's because I have a computer area next to the kitchen and there's no window nearby, so when trying to figure out a solution I looked at the kitchen hood. I can remove the fan and run the A/C exhaust tube into the circular fan opening that runs to the roof of the building. Yeah it won't look pretty, but I'd rather feel cool than look it.

Instructions: This was easy to unpack and all I made sure to do was remove all the tape and foam around the unit. So I did have to read the instructions to make sure I did not miss anything. Otherwise, you plug it in and turn it on. It is that simple. Matter of fact I turned it on without the exhaust tube connected to a window. The exhaust air was broiling hot. Kind of silly, one end was blowing ice cold air, the other end blowing air hot enough to cook with. But I wanted to try it out because that's what guys do.

Bragging Rights: I enjoyed calling my friends who were suffering in the heat, saying "Wow is it cold today or what. Hold on, I have to put on a coat. Oh wait, that's my A/C unit, never mind." (I then heard the phone click. How rude for them to hang up on me. Was it something I said?)

Bonus Tip: If your place is going to get hot later in the day, turn on your A/C BEFORE it gets hot. These A/C units work a lot better if they don't have to cool down an 80 degree room. I'm a lot more comfortable if I don't wait to turn on the Haier until AFTER it feels like an Easy Bake oven in my place.

Bonus Tip: To give this A/C unit a little extra circulation (to where it blows air into the next room, not a lot, but some) I place a little portable fan on the table next to this unit. I then run the fan on high. This adds about 1/3 more power to blow and circulate the cool air around.

Honest reviews on Haier CPN10XCJ 10000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner

I bought this portable air conditioner for my apartment after temperatures in my area reached 100+ degrees because my fan just wasnt cutting it and wow what a wonderful little unit. It is a medium sized air conditioner, kind of heavy but has wheels to move around, comes with the exhaust and a kit to hook it up to a window which can adjust to most window sizes for both horizontally and verticall. It's pretty quiet compared to most air conditioners and even though my room is a decent size with high ceilings it'll make the whole room cool within minutes. It has an adjustable thermostat and also has heating and dehumidifying capabilities and works as a fan also if you dont need the cooling. Great GREAT product, if you're in the market for a portable air conditioner, this is THE ONE.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Haier CPN10XCJ 10000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner

I purchased this 10,000 btu unit after reading over 50 reviews on Amazon and Walmart. I could not go bigger as this unit is 115 volt and plugs into a normal electric outlet while the 12,000 btu unit requires a 20 amp dedicated fuse and outlet. Haier states the unit is for a small room, i.e. 300 sq. ft. area max.

I believe the manufacturer is reading reviews, too. My 2012 version has an unlighted circuit-breaker plug and the bright blue front panel turns itself off after a few seconds. (The light from the LED's bothered people who installed the unit in the bedroom.

One sets the thermostat to the desired temperature and picks the fan speed. There is also a timer function. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are three fan speeds and the unit continues to run whether the compressor is working or not. Since it is dehumidifying when the compressor isn't on, I don't mind the continual fan.

The remote has large buttons and the same functions as the unit.

I would like to mention that the exhaust pipe heats up fairly significantly when it is cooling. So, cold air is coming out the front but the exhaust vent pipe is reducing efficiency. I may insulate the vent piping on principle.

Also, there is a knob on the back that says "closed/open" that does not appear in the instruction manual. I have not tried to go to the manufacturer's site to read up-to-date specifications.

This has been a truly terrible summer in New York City. Most of July was boiling hot and near-tropical humid. My ancient window air conditioner had been confiscated by my landlord, at the request of the NYC fire department, during the winter, because the bedroom window where it was located was on a fire escape. I didn't think much about it at the time because, after all, it was WINTER. But then, the blazing heat rolled around, and I was a little leery about purchasing a portable air conditioner -the only kind that wouldn't violate the nothing-in-windows-on-a-fire-escape rule -for several reasons. First, I had heard that they were less efficient than window models. Because of this, I had no realistic idea of how many BTU's I would need to cool my 10 X 12 foot bedroom. Additionally, I was nervous about how a standing air conditioner would look in my room, and how much space it would take up. Finally, after broiling in the city for several weeks, checking out the big box stores' offerings, and doing a ton of research, I settled on the Whynter ARC 10WB portable. It has been an absolute blessing. It has tamed the disgustingness of a New York City summer, and allowed me to sleep normally again. It has a variety of modes in which it can be used, including standard AC operation, fan mode, and dehumidifier mode. The AC mode is still going fairly regularly, because the wet heat has continued pretty steadily, even into the end of August. But on the rare days when it lets up for a while, the fan is more than sufficient to keep me cool. The unit is neatly designed, mostly white, and blends in nicely with my white walls. Oddly enough, it takes up substantially less space than the two standing fans I had been using to beat the heat before the Whynter arrived. The unit moves easily on its wheels; and I anticipate that there will be no problem switching it to another room if that should ever be desirable. (There was, however, an insufficient amount of foam padding included in the package for anything more than one average-size window. When I inquired about this at Whynter, they suggested that I could probably find more at a local hardware store. This does seem a tad like copping out on an item of negligible cost.)

Two other small problems: The unit is loud in its operation. But I was prepared for that, since I had learned from my prior research that portable models tend to be loud. I've gotten used to the sound, but it did take a bit of getting used to.

Also, the operating manual is absolutely terribly written, filled with contradictions, and difficult to follow if, like me, you're not born with a gift for assembling things. It took a number of calls and e-mails to Whynter to get everything straightened out. Whynter, however, was consistently helpful.

Gotta say, this item is awesome. Freezes any room in a matter of minutes. It is heavy though, which is because of the BTU rating, but worth it. The evaporator took care of all condensation, so no tank to drain which is also a plus.

We needed a small air condition unit for a small space that the central house a/c didn't sufficiently cool. We comparison shopped and decided on the Whynter ARC-10WB and it works beyond expectations. We like the fact that it doesn't have a drip pan that needs monitoring/emptying. Overall, we are extremely pleased with this unit.

Honest reviews on Whynter ARC-10WB 10,000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner

This was one of the few portable indoor units that I could find that had mostly good reviews...so I decided to pay a little extra for a 10k btu unit and grab it. For the year or so I've had it, I've been very happy with it. It blows cold air fast, cools my room down well (12'x12'), and I haven't even had to empty anything. I've noticed the fan sputter a bit lately, but it seemed to be temporary and of no real consequence. I'm not sure I could recommend it for a much bigger room though. It would work great if it was blowing on you, but for something like living rooms it might have to run hard for long periods of time.

It is loud, but, show me an AC that isn't. The sound mostly goes away when I wear headphones or turn up my speakers though, so meh!

Actually I LOVE sleeping to the AC sound. It soothes me heheh. If you must have it totally quiet while you sleep, just get a fan or something and WD-40 it to your heart's content. I'd MUCH rather have the noise than the Texas heat while I snooze!

I saw in the reviews how some received theirs damaged and mentioned something about how the packaging could have been better. Ours came this afternoon, and the box had a sticker that said TEAM LIFT and my husband is 74 with many health problems. We knew it was going to be heavy and although we did not see the UPS guy bring it up to the porch, we knew it would be difficult to get it in the house. Fortunately the neighbor next door was putting a new roof on the house his daughter was living in while she completed her schooling at a near by college, and he offered to get it in the house with a helper he had with him. My husband assured him we did not need any more help and he went on his way. The first thing my husband did was cut with a box cutter type knife around the bottom of the box, then I lifted that off and under it was another corrugated box that had strapping around it. We thought the second box would need to be cut as well, but once the straps were cut the second box was already cut and I just lifted that one off. There was no damage to any of the components only the Styrofoam was slightly cracked that held the remote, booklet and vent pipe. Like my husband said it very well could have been cracked in packing so I would not count that as damage. This is the second one we bought this year and have not tried this one yet, but once we do I will come back and update the performance. I just wanted to say how pleased we were with the packing of the product. Ours was sold by AMAZON LLC, so I don't know it is because of Amazon or the manufacturer Whynter, but it was well packaged. We are going to install ours with through the wall installation so it will be a little while before I come back to review the product.

One other thing about the AC is that the connection for the vent hose is 5 inches at the back of the machine, but they provide a reducer that actually takes that 5 inch to 6 inches for the vent hose. We thought it was going to be 5 inch all the way and we were looking before we got it to see where we could by a 5 inch through the wall vent, but I wasn't having a lot of luck, I did find some but the prices and or shipping really brought the price up, some were charging $15 for the shipping on an item that was already over $20. But, once we got the unit we found out that the only part that is 5 inches is the connection point on the AC, that as I said above has a connector that brings it to 6 inches, and the 6 inch vents are easy to find, we bought one for our first Portable AC at our Home Depot less than a mile from home, and it was only $18.72, so that is what we will do with this. My husband did have to buy a 6 inch hole cutter which he got at HD I don't remember the price but they have two and you don't need the super strong one if you only need to use it a couple of times. It makes a really nice installation to direct vent it out the wall, and also making a hole to drain the moisture out the back wall. We bought the 5/8 hose, 10 feet of it, and that is more than enough to do 2 AC's.

UPDATE: I posted the pictures of the through the wall installation we did. This is IMPORTANT, we shut off the power to be sure there were no wires in the area my husband was going to drill the hole. Our wires turned out to be above the second outlet that shows in the pictures so we knew it was safe for him to drill the hole, then we turned the power back on. The drain is located at what looks like a high point, but at the time I ordered the unit from Amazon I wrote to Whynter and asked about putting in a drain to the outside, I was told there were two drainage points on the unit and to use the upper drain since it is the first in line, and it made it easy for my husband to put that hole through the wall. Our other unit he drilled a hole through the laminate in the bedroom floor and out the basement to get the downward flow. On this one we did not have to use the clamps shown in my pictures the hose just slid over the drain hole on the unit, we did buy 10 feet of 5/8 by 1/2 inch drain hose from Home Depot for this purpose. For the 6 inch vent pipe he cut off about half of it to allow it to be compressed and make the installation neat to the wall. We will have to find a finish for it when we store it for the winter, and we also want to seal off the opening since there is a gap that allows some of the heat you are taking out of the house back in through that gap that may be less than half an inch on part of the vent opening in the wall. I saw where one person put up a YouTube video for their installation, they used an insulation tape, but I hope we come up with something a little neater. Still working on that.
