While this blanket certainly heats well, the location of the controls right in the middle of the blanket means that you're always fighting the wires and trying to get them out of the way. Also, the slightest bump changes the setting on the controls, so you frequently turn them higher or lower or even on and off without wanting to. I'm surprised that the manufacturer let this very poor design off the factory floor.

This is a nice blanket. It warms up reasonably fast and provides an even heat over the entire blanket area. The only thing I would change is where the power cord attaches to the blanket. The cord comes out in the middle of the blanket on one of the narrower sides. So, if you have the blanket over you in the long direction, from your shoulders to your feet, the cord comes out by either your neck or feet. Because of my wall outlet location, the cord has to be by my neck, which can be a nuisance. I think it would be much better if the cord came out one of the corners instead.

We got this blanket for Christmas and it actually works really, really well. There are three heat settings, plus it turns off after 3 hours so you don't have to worry about burning yourself or getting overly sweaty throughout the night. We actually DID save money on our power bill last winter (January was almost $40 lower than December!). It was pretty amazing. We're actually excited for winter again so we can use it. Very comfortable and very pretty looking on the bed the ivy color matches our drapes!

Honest reviews on Sunbeam Microplush Throw Blanket

Very pleased with my Sunbeam microplush electric throw. It warms up very quickly and then somehow adjusts to the temperature of your body. The warmth is even and consistent. DOES NOT feel like a thermostat is going on and off to adjust. All over warmth. I can equate the comfort to taking out a towel from a warm clothes dryer on a very cold day. The throw is not as soft as a microplush blanket because let's face it, it's an electric blanket and it has very supple wires inside...but you really can't feel them. The thermostat control doesn't look like the one pictured. It is long and is very easy to operate. One button changes the temperature from low to medium to high. Has a 3 hour shut off which is really convenient for kids who forget to shut it off or when sleeping. A couple of reviewers said that the plug was in the middle of the blanket, which is not so. The plug is positioned at the BOTTOM of the blanket in the middle. I don't find it to be in the way at all...also the electrical cord is sufficiently long enough to accommodate outlets behind a couch. Like it so much, I just ordered another one for my son who thinks the one I just got for myself, is his :) You won't regret this purchase!

I got this for my girlfriend for Christmas since she is always cold in the winter time.

Long story short, she ended up spending the majority of the winter curled up underneath it.

It warms up quickly, and kept her nice and toasty even when we turned down the heat to save on utilities.

Also, those who complain about the cord coming apart have not connected it properly. There is a plastic latch which when clipped in keeps the cord securely in place.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'm sure this thermostat works well enough, but mine was DOA screen freezes immediately after power is connected. Trane informed me that the unit was bad, and that they would send me a replacement unit and a box to ship the old one back in. A week later, neither item ever arrived, and I got a phone call from Trane "following up" on my service request. I said I never got the new unit, and they said, "We don't handle product returns, you need to return it to the merchant to get a new one." I told them that there was no merchant, that I received the product from them to write a review for it. They insisted that they can't send me a new one. I finally gave up and put my old thermostat back in.

We bought the Schlage Link/Nexia System in Sept 2011. We were very happy with the keypad lock and wanted

to be able to program our locks and thermostat online, so we bought new locks, a bridge, and a Trane thermostat.

Now almost 2 years later, the $130 thermostat is malfunctioning. I called Schlage/Nexia and was given a number

to call Trane.

After 30-60 minutes of trying to get tech support or navigate their web site to find tech support, I discovered

that Trane doesn't have tech support. They make you call a local dealer who will no doubt charge you $150-$200

to come out and troubleshoot the thermostat. If I wanted to pay $200 for someone to tell me that I need to push

some buttons to reset it to default (a common solution these days for digital products) or that I need to replace

this $130 product after only 21 months, they could tell me that on the phone.

The end result, I will probably replace this thermostat with another Z wave thermostat from another company.

DON"T BUY TRANE unless you want a complete lack of customer service when something goes wrong.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Normally, I'd knock it down a couple stars for the monthly fee associated with Nexia, which adds way too much to the cost of the product and makes recovering the cost through schedule based thermostat adjustments highly improbable if not impossible for the average home. But, you can use this otherwise great programmable & Z-Wave compatible thermostat with other home automation systems that don't require monthly fees.

I found this thermostat to be very accurate for both temperature and humidity by comparing it to several Oregon Scientific sensors in our home. That's always important for a thermostat but even more so when you want to use it with a home automation / smart setup. For example, our house is set to "away" mode for a long weekend in the hot and humid summers, the Veralite tells this thermostat to raise the temperature to 80 degrees (or higher). However, it monitors the humidity levels. If the humidity in the house goes above 62%, the veralite will (1) lower the HVAC setting so the AC will lower the humidity, then send me a text message so that I can remotely check the temp and humidity. Once the humidity is under control, the Veralite tells the Trane to raise the temperature to the more miserly level, again. It's a great way to minimize my power bill, but to avoid the risks of mold growth. This TRANE is also linked to several motion sensors in the house, making it like a NEST thermostat that graduated magna cum laude.

Numbers / settings are easy to read. The temperature adjustment buttons are easy to push arrows that anyone can use if they want to walk over and adjust the settings.

As mentioned above, I have this connected to Veralite Z-Wave controller, which Amazon sells at a very good price: Mi Casa Verde VeraLite Home Controller, White and Green The Veralite can control this thermostat along with all the other Z-Wave devices (and Insteon) and does more than Nexia WITHOUT ANY MONTHLY FEES.

Honest reviews on Trane TZEMT400BB3NX N N SL Home Energy Management Thermostat

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I really wanted this thing to work. I even crawled into the crawlspace to make sure I had the blue (C) wire connected to the furnace. Then we had to find the blue wire in the mass of wires stuck in the wall. Finally, got everything connected and put the faceplate on. It would not power on.

I called customer service during the stated CS hours, and the phone rang and rang. I could not speak to a rep during the hours the company states a rep is available.

Again, I had high hopes for this. I currently have a pretty nice Hunter thermostat, but I wanted one that I could monitor online. Also, I was quite happy the kit came with some extras (door lock, dimmer, bridge, etc.). Despite my high hopes we had to uninstall the Trane and reinstall the Hunter.

I bought this thermostat and really like its cute round and pretty look. I had it installed and was looking forward to this being the right one. I am using it for a boiler heater (which has a red and white wire). You can use it for more than that as well. ( it works for cooling also).

The problem came when the heater when on the display disapeared. I was suprised and contacted honeywell and they told me that if you have a "Taco" brand zone valve. (which in simple englishif your heater has different zones for different parts of the house then you would have a zone valve ( its a small outlet near the boilder). Even if you just have one zone you would still have it.

So if you have the brand Taco and you can google it, its very popular than this model will not work with it properly. I called honeywell and they are well aware of this problem. They recommend using a model that has battery backup. ( note: this is only a problem with the digital model) not the older models or non digital ones. If you are looking for the right model I would suggest calling honeywell before you buy. 1800-468-1502 many models have battery backup. I hope you save the trouble I went through.

I like this traditional style digital thermostst because it is so easy to set and see the room temperature at a glance. You almost have to be a rocket scientist to use some of today's programmable thermostats. Whereas I just want to set the temperature and forget it.

We rent, and the house we are in had an old (though charming, design wise) metal mechanical version of this unit that did a poor job of keeping the temperature constant. Installing this took about 10 min and now the house is nice an cool in summer and toasty and warm in winter.

Recommended.

My fan won't turn on independently. It does work for heat the way it should. I tried every combination of the 3 wires (except red) It replaced an old Honeywell mercury switch. The company wouldn't exchange. They wanted to service the original. I would have been without a thermostat in the winter months.

First off, I bought my Meco 5029 from another vendor, but because I'm an Amazon Prime customer, I wanted to relay my experience here.

This is my 4th water smoker. The previous three were the painted variety and rusted apart. That was my justification for spending three times as much on this stainless model.

I received the unit yesterday. It arrived in perfect shape no dents or scratches.

If you like an installation challenge; like drilling-out misplaced rivets, adding screws where rivets should have been, and trying to locate part #23 when they really meant part #18, then you'll love this chore.

Also, the instructions say to install the handles with the Meco logo up, but no logo was found. (Not really a big deal, just humorous.)

Here's an interesting manufacturing technique used.....the sliding front door is held in place by loose rivets an interesting technique that does not provide a tight seal. I estimate there are 3/16" gaps in four places where the sliding door should be tight. I haven't used the smoker yet, but I'm going to lose a lot of heat and smoke through those gaps. And unfortunately I can't press the metal door into place, it just springs back.

Also, the cooking grates have nice handles on them, but getting the bottom grate in place requires some maneuvering, because the screws provided to attach the grate support brackets extend about 1/2" over the grate. Installing or removing the grate requires some twisting and adjusting. I cannot imagine trying to remove the grate with a pork shoulder on top. (Next time I have the unit apart I'll cut-off those long screw ends.)

Based on the design and manufacturing missteps, I rate this unit 3 stars. (And like I said, I haven't even used it yet.)

I love this smoker as it's very easy to use and homemade brisket beats the local bbq joint offerings (in the pacific northwest).

The best feature, and the main reason I bought the MECO, is its side doors which allow you to add water/wood, without having to take the lid off and the meat out.

What I'd like to see better is a real temperature gauge. All it does now is show you Warm/Medium/High. And if you cook a 12 hour brisket (the best way of course!), you'll need to turn it on medium/high to get the smoke going for a while before turning it down low for the long haul as the heating element won't make the smoke happen when on Low. So a side chamber would be the next step up to make this a perfect solution.

Regardless, it works wonderfully as a starter and barbecue is now a staple in my house. Yummmmmmm!

Best Deals on Meco Double-Grid Electric Water Smoker

The replacement coil and controller for this unit is MECO part number 1521.9.001. When searching for a replacement on-line it's apparent that these units fail frequently and always in the same spot; where the controller attaches to the coil. The failure mode is a fried contact and it results in melted plastic of the controller. In two years of infrequent smoking, mine failed in the same location as everyone else has reported and although I'm not pleased, I to am happy that at least it didn't catch on fire. Much to my surprise, Meco's price on the spare at $36 is less than from other on-line companies that specialize in grill replacement parts. However, their price to ship it is $17.00 for UPS ground which is ridiculous.

I agree with other reviewers that the lid doesn't fit very well allowing a lot of smoke to escape, the lower rack is difficult to remove because it catches on the hooks that the upper rack rest on and the thermometer in the lid is close to worthless. Other than that, i've been relatively happy with it until now because the last smokers i have owned have been painted and charcoal fired. Others have complained that it doesn't get very hot; i'm not sure what they are talking about. I prefer to smoke over low heat for a longer amount of time; something i was never able to do with my old charcoal smokers.

Honest reviews on Meco Double-Grid Electric Water Smoker

This pulls some serious electricity -it runs off a 1000-plus-watt element -and in my house, it causes breakers to switch off. I eventually converted this to a charcoal smoker (Meco sells a kit to do this). This really shouldn't be a problem in newer houses.

At this price, though, I'd have to look hard at a Weber Smoky Mountain cooker. It's not stainless but it is enameled steel and it comes with a cover -it should last for years and years, if not decades and decades. It also has superior heat control (this Meco unit, like many water smokers, has no controllable vents). I've made some very good BBQ with this Meco but it does require a lot more attention than my Smoky Mountain. I use this at big BBQs when I often will fire up this, plus a Weber, plus a big barrel grill.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Meco Double-Grid Electric Water Smoker

The smoker was delivered as promised. It took around an hour to assemble it while I was having my morning coffee. If you are in a hurry, just buy your meats from the market already smoked.

So far I have smoked beef tri-tip with apple wood, and king salmon with cherry wood. Both turned out fantastic.

Beef takes a few hours and the fish takes around one hour; of course it depends on size and temperature, etc. It is nice that I only need to add wood chips and turn the electric thermostat on without the need for charcoal.

I just swapped this model in today for a 9 year old non-programmable thermostat today and the first thing I've noticed is how loud of a click the relay makes when the A/C turns on/off. I've never heard a thermostat make this loud of a click. Kind of annoying. The thermostat seems to read a more accurate temperature than my builder quality thermostat that was in the house when it was built 9 years ago.

We were a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews here that indicated that two of these units read several degrees apart from each other. We purchased two units to check the temp of our new fridge and freezer as well as checking the temps on our second fridge in our garage. We used a high quality digital probe to compare readings and found that both units were accurate and both units displayed the exact same reading when placed together in the same location.

Based on this, we can't agree with the low score reviews that indicated otherwise. The dial on this themometer is large and easy to read and responds quickly to temp changes such as when the door of the fridge or freezer is opened for any length of time. Considering the affordable price, you could do much worse than this product!

We are very pleased with the purchase and may even purchase two additional units so that we can have permanent temp monitoring in both of our fridges.

I bought a pair of these thermometers for a refrigerator and freezer as backup to a digital wireless thermometer. The analog and digital thermometers track indicated temperature quite closely. I like the large size which makes them easy to read. Considering the price, I'm very pleased with these Taylor thermometers.

Honest reviews on Taylor Food Service Classic Series Freezer-Refrigerator

I purchased this thermometer to replace an inaccurate one. I now have two inaccuated ones.

I purchased the Taylor commercial digital "food" thermometer at the same time. I calibrated the "food" thermometer (as per the instructions) in a ice bath. The Taylor "food" thermometer was accurate.

I then compared the calibrated food thermometer to this freezer-refrigerator thermometer, at refrigeration temperatures (38 degrees). This freezer-refrigerator thermometer reads 8 degrees low. This is a potential safety hazard since a refrigerator at 50 degrees would read at a safe level of 42 degrees.

I expected better accuracy, especially since this product bears the NSF logo. There is no calibration adjustment knob/screw on this model.

I plan to contact the manufacturer for a replacement.

Duraflame Desktop Heater

This heater makes a large room toasty warm. Imagine how such a small and inexpensive heater can heat a large room on the canadian border. I wish I had bought three of then instead of just one of the Duraflame plus the DeLonghi and Honeywell heaters. This is an old house with little insulation. Main heat source is a valiant woodburning stove but it cannot heat two floors and does not really heat the main floor completely. Take a walk into the closed room with the Duraflame and you could be in Jamaica...well, at least in the American south. I normally would not write about appliances. I obviously was not systematic enough in my research. If you are reading this, forget high-priced space heaters and trust in the tiny Duraflame.

Though I work in a space with a central air system, sometimes my cube is just too cold. I picked this little guy up at Walgreens and he suits my needs perfectly. Hot, space-saving, powerful, and safe (auto-shutoff if the spaceheater is moved to an uneven surface), this Duraflame heater is highly recommended by me. I've owned it for about 4-5 months now and haven't had any issues.

Best Deals on Duraflame Desktop Heater

I bought this heater to knock the morning chill out of a very small bathroom 5'9 by 5'11, that does not have any other heat source. It heats the space very quickly. There is no noise even when I put it to oscillate. The heater takes up very little space and does not look awkward or bulky. It's very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Very powerful for such a small and compact unit. I'm very pleased with the purchase. I bought it at Walgreens on sale for $21.00.

After much research and side by side comparison of heat output I determined that ceramic small heaters are the best. Do not go by watts . A 1500 watt ceramic heater will give off more heat than a 1500 watt coil type heater. I purchased this heater at bed bath and behind for $15 dollars after the five dollar discount coupon

I found this Duraflame 14T had decent to good reviews. The only question I did not have an answer to was how quiet it was. I had the hardware shop open it and plug it in. It was a quiet as one can imagine. I brought it home, plugged it in and smelled a hot smokey smell. I thought it was burning off the packing chemical/oils however with 3 minutes of turning it on, there was a "POP" sparks flew out the grill and it started smoking profusely.

I am returning it the same day I bought it and HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT PURCHASING THIS UNIT.

If you do, DO NOT LEAVE THE ROOM WHILE IT IS ON!!!!!!!!!

This has been a truly terrible summer in New York City. Most of July was boiling hot and near-tropical humid. My ancient window air conditioner had been confiscated by my landlord, at the request of the NYC fire department, during the winter, because the bedroom window where it was located was on a fire escape. I didn't think much about it at the time because, after all, it was WINTER. But then, the blazing heat rolled around, and I was a little leery about purchasing a portable air conditioner -the only kind that wouldn't violate the nothing-in-windows-on-a-fire-escape rule -for several reasons. First, I had heard that they were less efficient than window models. Because of this, I had no realistic idea of how many BTU's I would need to cool my 10 X 12 foot bedroom. Additionally, I was nervous about how a standing air conditioner would look in my room, and how much space it would take up. Finally, after broiling in the city for several weeks, checking out the big box stores' offerings, and doing a ton of research, I settled on the Whynter ARC 10WB portable. It has been an absolute blessing. It has tamed the disgustingness of a New York City summer, and allowed me to sleep normally again. It has a variety of modes in which it can be used, including standard AC operation, fan mode, and dehumidifier mode. The AC mode is still going fairly regularly, because the wet heat has continued pretty steadily, even into the end of August. But on the rare days when it lets up for a while, the fan is more than sufficient to keep me cool. The unit is neatly designed, mostly white, and blends in nicely with my white walls. Oddly enough, it takes up substantially less space than the two standing fans I had been using to beat the heat before the Whynter arrived. The unit moves easily on its wheels; and I anticipate that there will be no problem switching it to another room if that should ever be desirable. (There was, however, an insufficient amount of foam padding included in the package for anything more than one average-size window. When I inquired about this at Whynter, they suggested that I could probably find more at a local hardware store. This does seem a tad like copping out on an item of negligible cost.)

Two other small problems: The unit is loud in its operation. But I was prepared for that, since I had learned from my prior research that portable models tend to be loud. I've gotten used to the sound, but it did take a bit of getting used to.

Also, the operating manual is absolutely terribly written, filled with contradictions, and difficult to follow if, like me, you're not born with a gift for assembling things. It took a number of calls and e-mails to Whynter to get everything straightened out. Whynter, however, was consistently helpful.

Gotta say, this item is awesome. Freezes any room in a matter of minutes. It is heavy though, which is because of the BTU rating, but worth it. The evaporator took care of all condensation, so no tank to drain which is also a plus.

Best Deals on Whynter ARC-10WB 10,000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner

We needed a small air condition unit for a small space that the central house a/c didn't sufficiently cool. We comparison shopped and decided on the Whynter ARC-10WB and it works beyond expectations. We like the fact that it doesn't have a drip pan that needs monitoring/emptying. Overall, we are extremely pleased with this unit.

Honest reviews on Whynter ARC-10WB 10,000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner

This was one of the few portable indoor units that I could find that had mostly good reviews...so I decided to pay a little extra for a 10k btu unit and grab it. For the year or so I've had it, I've been very happy with it. It blows cold air fast, cools my room down well (12'x12'), and I haven't even had to empty anything. I've noticed the fan sputter a bit lately, but it seemed to be temporary and of no real consequence. I'm not sure I could recommend it for a much bigger room though. It would work great if it was blowing on you, but for something like living rooms it might have to run hard for long periods of time.

It is loud, but, show me an AC that isn't. The sound mostly goes away when I wear headphones or turn up my speakers though, so meh!

Actually I LOVE sleeping to the AC sound. It soothes me heheh. If you must have it totally quiet while you sleep, just get a fan or something and WD-40 it to your heart's content. I'd MUCH rather have the noise than the Texas heat while I snooze!

I saw in the reviews how some received theirs damaged and mentioned something about how the packaging could have been better. Ours came this afternoon, and the box had a sticker that said TEAM LIFT and my husband is 74 with many health problems. We knew it was going to be heavy and although we did not see the UPS guy bring it up to the porch, we knew it would be difficult to get it in the house. Fortunately the neighbor next door was putting a new roof on the house his daughter was living in while she completed her schooling at a near by college, and he offered to get it in the house with a helper he had with him. My husband assured him we did not need any more help and he went on his way. The first thing my husband did was cut with a box cutter type knife around the bottom of the box, then I lifted that off and under it was another corrugated box that had strapping around it. We thought the second box would need to be cut as well, but once the straps were cut the second box was already cut and I just lifted that one off. There was no damage to any of the components only the Styrofoam was slightly cracked that held the remote, booklet and vent pipe. Like my husband said it very well could have been cracked in packing so I would not count that as damage. This is the second one we bought this year and have not tried this one yet, but once we do I will come back and update the performance. I just wanted to say how pleased we were with the packing of the product. Ours was sold by AMAZON LLC, so I don't know it is because of Amazon or the manufacturer Whynter, but it was well packaged. We are going to install ours with through the wall installation so it will be a little while before I come back to review the product.

One other thing about the AC is that the connection for the vent hose is 5 inches at the back of the machine, but they provide a reducer that actually takes that 5 inch to 6 inches for the vent hose. We thought it was going to be 5 inch all the way and we were looking before we got it to see where we could by a 5 inch through the wall vent, but I wasn't having a lot of luck, I did find some but the prices and or shipping really brought the price up, some were charging $15 for the shipping on an item that was already over $20. But, once we got the unit we found out that the only part that is 5 inches is the connection point on the AC, that as I said above has a connector that brings it to 6 inches, and the 6 inch vents are easy to find, we bought one for our first Portable AC at our Home Depot less than a mile from home, and it was only $18.72, so that is what we will do with this. My husband did have to buy a 6 inch hole cutter which he got at HD I don't remember the price but they have two and you don't need the super strong one if you only need to use it a couple of times. It makes a really nice installation to direct vent it out the wall, and also making a hole to drain the moisture out the back wall. We bought the 5/8 hose, 10 feet of it, and that is more than enough to do 2 AC's.

UPDATE: I posted the pictures of the through the wall installation we did. This is IMPORTANT, we shut off the power to be sure there were no wires in the area my husband was going to drill the hole. Our wires turned out to be above the second outlet that shows in the pictures so we knew it was safe for him to drill the hole, then we turned the power back on. The drain is located at what looks like a high point, but at the time I ordered the unit from Amazon I wrote to Whynter and asked about putting in a drain to the outside, I was told there were two drainage points on the unit and to use the upper drain since it is the first in line, and it made it easy for my husband to put that hole through the wall. Our other unit he drilled a hole through the laminate in the bedroom floor and out the basement to get the downward flow. On this one we did not have to use the clamps shown in my pictures the hose just slid over the drain hole on the unit, we did buy 10 feet of 5/8 by 1/2 inch drain hose from Home Depot for this purpose. For the 6 inch vent pipe he cut off about half of it to allow it to be compressed and make the installation neat to the wall. We will have to find a finish for it when we store it for the winter, and we also want to seal off the opening since there is a gap that allows some of the heat you are taking out of the house back in through that gap that may be less than half an inch on part of the vent opening in the wall. I saw where one person put up a YouTube video for their installation, they used an insulation tape, but I hope we come up with something a little neater. Still working on that.
