This heater was perfect for replacing our 31 year old bathroom heater as we required dimensions that would cover the hole in the wall with surrounding antique tile. The Stiebel Eltron is very quiet and immediately produces a strong flow of warm air so one can bath without waiting to warm the room. Great product and attractive in it's white design.

A nice small room heater. Quiet and very light weight. You will need to supply your own correctly rated power cable.

The Stiebel Eltron CK 15E 120V.1500-Watt Wall Fan Heater. I have three heaters in my home in Ely NV.And anybody whos ever been in Ely in the winter knowns it gets 32 degres or colder.I have them in the bedrooms set at 1.5 they go to three. The problem I have with them is they only last 1.5 yr.to 2 yr.And when it cost about $154.00 each time well I think you get the point. But so fare there $25 to $35 dollars less then anyone else (the plumber)So fare I have purchase two. When it comes to delivery there on or before due date. I purchased these items though Amazon.com with no problems.

Honest reviews on Stiebel Eltron CK 15E 120-Volt 1500-Watts Wall Mounted Electric Fan

These heaters are well made, look good and are quiet. I prefer this type of heater to the common type that fits between the wall studs inside the wall.

They are expensive (made in W Germany), but I have not had any problems with them, and used about about seven in various houses.

For new construction I suggest connect the heater power to a wall switch. I usually file the (metric) heater cable hole and use a standard US conduit fitting, then run the pipe through the wall behind the heater. That way there are no cables dangling near the heater.

The connector block for the power wires uses very small screws so you may have to use a small

flat blade screwdriver and file it to fit the holes if necessary.

We had one of the CK15 heaters installed in a bathroom a few years ago to replace an old gas heater that didn't meet code. While we don't have long periods of cold weather in central Texas (so I can't comment on how long it would hold up under heavy use conditions), it works like a dream, is quiet and puts out plenty of heat. I'm going to buy another one for a second bathroom.

I feel confident in saying this Nesco Gardenmaster is a better quality product than the Excalibur 9 tray, both of which I have used. I first tried the Excalibur and quickly realized it took too long and was too cumbersome to be effective and needed a new thermostat after just three weeks. I found myself babysitting the unit, switching trays and drying only during the day when I could turn it off manually. The 9 tray I had did not have an automatic timer and was just a pain in the neck. I sold it on Ebay after two months. I ventured out into the world of dehydrating again after two long years of resentment. I tried the Nesco and was so happy I did. The digital controls offer exact results every time, the automatic shut-off allow you to dry at night without waking to adjust trays or check results.

The capacity is huge with the add on trays offered and the powerful fan dries the bottom tray equally as fast as the top. The top mounted motor keeps drips from causing a clean-up nightmare and the quality of food is excellent. I've dried fruits, vegetables, made pounds and pounds of jerkey and have experimented with some raw food "baking" which all turned out perfect.

I love the Nesco Gardenmaster and suggest you seriously consider it whether a novice or pro. If you are considering an Excalibur, I highly recommend the Nesco as I found it performed substantially better than the Ex,has design features to make your drying easy and fun, and costs about $50.00 less.

I bought 2 Nesco American Harvest Food Dehydrators in 1974. One for me and one for my grandmother. They were used extensively for drying fruits and vegetables as well as making jerky. After 24 years, the plastic became brittle so I thought it was time to replace them. Because the original dryers worked so well for so long, I immediately looked for the same brand. I bought the Gardenmaster plus 6 extra trays because it is the largest model and I dry large quantities. Within the past 2 weeks how long I've had my new dryer I have dried about 8 bushels of apples. Since the tree is still full, I will probably dry that many more before moving into jerky season.

The only complaints I have seen on this dryer have related to concerns regarding "recipies" not listing exact drying times. As an experienced food dryer, I can tell you this is the same no matter which dryer you use. I would be concerned about any dehydrator that stated otherwise drying time depends on the moisture in the item your drying, humidity in the room where you have your dryer, and the amount of food placed on trays to dry. The apples I'm drying right now are VERY juicy so it is taking about 18 hours to dry 10 trays of them to perfection. After you have dried food for a while, you will be able to guess about how long it will take to dry a pariculy batch of food.

Best Deals on Nesco American Harvest FD-1020 Gardenmaster 1000-Watt Digital Food

This is a high quality food dehydrator that is simple to use because of the digital control and the top heater and fan. I wouldn't even consider a food dehydrator that does not have the top heater/fan. This one does not need to have the trays rotated during use and also heats to the recommended 160*.

I have had my Nesco American Harvest FD-1020 for a year and have used it so far only to make ground beef jerky, but I've given it extensive use for that. I cook the meat at the 160* setting for approximately 6 1/2 hours, but the amount of time varies by the ambient humidity. I set it outdoors to use and when in southern Arizona, if the meat slices are thin, 6 hours was sufficient. In Texas, I have needed to leave the meat cooking for 7 hours. I don't care for the smell of the cooking meat, necessitating the outdoor use.

For ease of cleaning, I recommend purchasing the clean-a-screen mesh sheets for each tray, Nesco American Harvest MS-2-6 Clean-A-Screen Plastic-Mesh Dehydrator Screens, Set of 2. Also, buy at least one additional set of trays, Nesco American Harvest Add-A-Tray for FD-1000, Set of 2. Buy a set of the mesh screens for each set of trays. Only a single mesh screen comes with the dehydrator. Do be careful to order the correct trays and screens for the specific model of Nesco deyhdrator.

I'm the type who wants detailed instructions, and the included instructions are poor. I finally had to dive in and give it a try when I didn't know exactly what to do. After experimentation, for the ground beef jerky, I use one packet of the Nesco Jerky Spice Works, hot and spicy flavor, plus a teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper to 1 1/2 pounds of 96% lean ground beef. It is easy to make the jerky strips using the Nesco BJX-5 American Harvest Jumbo Jerky Works Kit. For 6 lbs of meat, I needed 8 trays, and they were totally filled. Perhaps it would be better not to crowd the slices, but mine has worked OK and I want to make lots of jerky when I'm going through the trouble of making it. I store the jerky is an airtight container in the fridge or in sealed bags in the freezer.

Honest reviews on Nesco American Harvest FD-1020 Gardenmaster 1000-Watt Digital Food

This is truly a set it and forget it machine. Since receiving the 1020 I have put it through many hours of dehydrating. It is quiet, Which makes placing it your choice and not determined by the noise level. I am very pleased that I chose a top heater and blower. I never have to worry about particles or drippings getting into the fan or heater. It has fulfilled my expectations and for me worthy of 5 stars.

The first summer after moving into our new home, the husband and I found ourselves buried under a deluge of fresh produce. Some of it, such as the watermelons, cantaloupes, green and yellow zucchini, jalapenos, green and yellow peppers, and tomatoes (oh, the tomatoes!: Roma, Beefsteak, cherry and grape) came as no surprise, since they were planned, planted and grown in our very own garden. Most of the fruit, on the other hand, was wholly unexpected; when we purchased the house the previous spring, we had no idea that many of the trees in our front yard were of the fruit-bearing variety. The apricots, pears and apples (120 grocery bags full, for reals!), then, came as a shock. A happy shock, but a shock nonetheless.

With the threat of an overabundance of fruit and veggies looming, I hurriedly began researching methods of preserving the extras for winter. Canning struck me as intriguing, if a bit risky for a newbie like myself. Freezing, while quick and easy, brings with it the obvious space and energy limitations. Eventually, I decided that dehydrating the excess food was my best option: safe, uncomplicated and requiring the minimal upfront investment.

Enter: the Nesco American Harvest Gardenmaster FD-1020 Digital Pro Food Dehydrator. After quite a bit of online window-shopping, I finally opted for this make and model. A mid-range dehydrator, the Gardenmaster FD-1020 is one of the pricier models offered by Nesco, and yet it's still less expensive than those made by Excalibur (which, if the Amazon listings are any indication, is the Lexus of food dehydrators). All things considered e.g., price, customer reviews, expandability, accessories the Gardenmaster FD-1020 struck me as the wisest choice: suitable for my needs, without going over the top.

This is my third year with the Gardenmaster; in this time, I've used it to dry a variety of fruits and veggies, including tomatoes, sweet potatoes (for the dogs, natch!), all manner of jalapenos and peppers, apples, and even watermelon (looks like HuFu, yo!). My favorite use by far has been fruit leather (yum!).

Construction: Solid. The top of the machine (its "lid," you might say), which houses the heating unit and fan, is substantial but not heavy. The plastic trays are lightweight but durable; supposedly they're dishwasher-safe (ditto: the plastic base), though I haven't yet tested this. The Fruit Roll-Up Trays and Mesh Screen are (obviously) flimsier since they're designed for use in concert with the trays but have held up well.

Durability: Good I haven't had any issues in the two years I've owned it.

Ease of use and care: With its LCD display and simple design, the Gardenmaster is quite easy to use: push one button to change the LCD display from time to temperature and back again, one of two arrows to set each up/down, and a start/stop to start and stop the drying. (As long as the machine remains plugged in, the digital screen stays on.) Recommended temperatures for fruits, veggies and jerky (here defined as "dried TOFU") are posted on the top of the machine, which can run between 90 and 160 degrees F. Does it get any easier than this?

Clean-up is a bit trickier. Because the machine is so large circular in shape, it measures 15' across I have to clean the trays, accessories and base in a bathtub. (For serious, they don't fit in my kitchen sink!) The Fruit Roll-Up sheets and machine base are rather easy to clean just wash with a bit of detergent and a soft sponge but the trays, what with their closely positioned spokes, require some elbow grease and extra diligence. Air drying is the only way to dry them completely, and can take quite a bit of time and even more space.

Finally, because the machine is so large, it probably isn't the best choice for those with limited storage space. The Excalibur models seem more compact, at least judging from the photos available on Amazon.

Extras: When I purchased the Gardenmaster FD-1020, it came with two Fruit Roll-Up Sheets, as well as one Plastic Mesh Screen for drying herbs and other items too small to rest on the trays. If you're a fruit leather person and/or grow your own herbs, neither will be sufficient. Luckily, add-ons are available: extra trays, Fruit Roll-Up Sheets and Mesh Screens are all sold separately, and for a reasonable price.

I also received a recipe book and jerky spice packet, both of which have sat, untouched, at the bottom of a miscellaneous kitchen drawer since their arrival. (Beef jerky, yuck.)

Value: Not bad. Even at retail price, I think I've more than made my money back in the amount of food I've managed to save through dehydration (the value of my time excluded). Possibly I might have done just as well with a lower-end model, though the lackluster reviews scared me away from those in the < $100 range.

Overall: I'd recommend it!

...Though newbies on a budget might get just as much use of out a slightly less expensive model. Just sayin'.

This has been a great purchase for our kitchen counter top. This is the perfect item for rainy days when you don't want to grill outside. I have had no issues with this product so far and it cooks staek and chicken perfectly the way my girlfriend and I like it. The grill surface isn't very big but it's great for two people. Fantastic for grilling veggies too!

I wanted to save a buck by buying a less expensive grill but was worried the quality or grilling power wouldnt be as good. Turns out it works great! I've already used it 4 times and so far so good. Nice grill marks and the temperature appears to get very hot just like a regular grill. Very nice to use when the weather is bad or you just dont feel like messing with the big gas grill.

I do reccommend using this on top of the stove with the vents on high as this will absorb the small amount of smoke that grilling causes. The house is less stinky that way and you also have free counter space. Just a thought.

This is the second Maxi Magic grill I've bought. It does a great job. It's inexpensive, smokeless and easy to clean up. What more could you ask for. The other one was exactly the same. I had an accident with the first one (wasn't paying attention and the element got put in the dishwasher) and needed to replace it because there's no substitute for this little grill... unless you want to buy a new stove top with a built in grill for much more money.

I like this a lot. Pretty easy to clean too. Heats ups well. Good for steaks, lamp chops, chicken. About the same time as I used to do on an outside grill. Nice big drip pan too on the bottom (that washes off very easily). Recommended.

So far it has worked to our satisfaction. The one that came with the new trailer went out unexpectedly on a trip, fortunately we were only 1 day from returning home. Certainly a DIY job, but you also need to have, or order a water heater tool(Camco 9883 Element Wrench)to remove the element from the water heater, which is also available at Amazon. Without it you will have a very difficult time getting it out and then screwing it back in.

This element is easy to screw into your old element's bung, requires a large socket that most people do not own. the socket can be "borrowed" from most Auto part stores. It is a "shorty" element, not very long but works nicely. That is why I only gave it 4 stars.

Review of Haier HCR17W 1.7 Cubic Feet Refrigerator/Freezer, White

Haier HCR17W 1.7 Cubic Feet Refrigerator/Freezer, White
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

When I received my item, I expected it to be very heavy but I was able to carry it from the UPS truck to my room. It doesn't take much power, and when I first plugged it in, it took only an hour to fully cool down. The freezer freezes ONLY in the freezer, and the racks are all stable. It's a very good item that I suggest to anyone looking for a mini fridge.

This is a very good small fridge. It has everything I'm looking for: relatively quiet, got place to put a big bottle of milk in and got a freezer compartment. It's worth its price.

Best Deals on Haier HCR17W 1.7 Cubic Feet Refrigerator/Freezer, White

Pros:

it's a Haier

gets very cold

freezer is a good size

freezer freezes, as well as the refrigerator depending on the coldness setting.

top shelf is deep and goes all the way to the back of the refrigerator

adjusting feet for unbalanced surfaces

quiet

the cooling component look like quality,

and should last a long time just like my other Haier appliances.

Cons:

door shelves are nothing special, and you have to be careful

to open the door slowly so the items don't fall

bottom shelf is shallow

I prefer the blower type of compact refrigerators.

cannot fit a lot of taller wider objects inside

the top was very warm to the touch, but I am not sure why yet.

Update-I haven't experiences this since the initial experience of plugging this in.

I'll keep you updated if it fails or the experience remains positive.

I bought this solely on the name, since I've had good experiences with Haier appliances in the past, and none of them have failed yet.

Update January 16, 2012: I have a short container that I wanted to fit on the bottom shelf, but wouldn't fit. I had to remove the side door bar that is supposed to hold the door items in place. I really never had any use for the side door, so I now have more space on the bottom shelf. The metal bar is easily removed and easily replaced.

I now have fixed a major concern I had with the shallow bottom shelf. This may be a problem for those that want to store liter bottles though.

With all my qualms regarding the interior space, this refrigerator/freezer is ICE cold, and is so quiet that it's almost silent. I do use the freezer as well as the refrigerator. In the morning, I bring in cans of drinks at room temperature, and by lunch time the drink has a few ice crystals, and if I leave the cans in for 3 or more hours the drink is completely frozen.

Honest reviews on Haier HCR17W 1.7 Cubic Feet Refrigerator/Freezer, White

Taking into consideration what you are buying, this product meets my expectations. I bought it to replace a Black & Decker unit that failed after a year. The Haier does not have a light of any type which was an advantage on the B&D. In my experience if you try to keep frozen food in that compartment the setting must be so low as to freeze food in the refrigerator. That said, I'm using it as an "office" refrigerator and it works fine.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Haier HCR17W 1.7 Cubic Feet Refrigerator/Freezer, White

Five stars because, at least for the first month or so, this little fridge has done exactly what I wanted and needed a little fridge to do. I use it in my office mainly to keep soft drinks and water cold, as well as to store bagged lunches. The lower level can accomodate eighteen 12 ounce cans, inclusive of door storage. This appliance has a powerful compressor (the same unit is used in some of the manufacturer's larger models) which explains the bit of thermostat experimentation and adjustment that was necessary in order to prevent freezing the entire contents (similar to the experience of other buyers). Needless to say, and of particular importance to me, this mini has no trouble keeping beverages and other items seriously cold. Runs very quietly, in fact I have to be right on top of it to even hear the compressor switch on or off. Unlike some reports that have said that similar units arrived in damaged condition due to pallette shipping with no individual packing, mine arrived in pristine condition, inside a cocoon of styrofoam and plastic wrapping nestled snugly inside a sturdy cardboard box.

I ordered this to (finally) get a fan/blower for my 14-year-old Heat N Glo fireplace. I went with this kit rather than other blowers/kits available through Amazon because I already had a finished outlet (actually two of them) under my fireplace, and this kit was completely wired and didn't require me to do anything more than get it in the right place and plug it in. I did have to use a 3-prong-to-2-prong adapter, which I bought separately at Home Depot for $0.69, but then I found that one came with this kit that is identical to the one I bought. So, please note that though the picture on Amazon seems to show a two prong plug for the power cord for this blower, it is really a grounded, 3-prong plug and the kit comes with a 3-to-2 prong adapter. I also bought a grounding pigtail wire at Home Depot and ran that from the grounding loop on the 3-to-2 adapter to a hole in the metal underside of the fireplace near the outlet, and secured that with a screw.

Total installation time for this was about 1 hour, most of which was spent vacuming out dust from under the fireplace and removing and reattaching the bottom grill part of my fireplace front, which swings opens downward and which I had to unscrew at the bottom hinges and take out to make enough clearance to get the blower under my fireplace. Also had to remove the fireplace front screen, which is very easy to do. If you get this blower, or if you're thinking of getting it, I recommend that you visit the manufacturer's website and view the video there on how to install this. . I did that and hardly needed to look at the instructions that come with the product.

After I got the blower in place, attached the ground wire to the adapter and plugged it in, put the heat sensor with the magnet on the underside of my fireplace box, turned on the round dial switch that turns the fan on and off and controls the fan speed (it clicks off to the left, and when clicked on to the right the highest speed is first -speed lowers when turned clockwise) and lit up the fireplace, this worked like a charm. I had the fireplace on for less than 5 minutes, but the warm air this moved in that short time warmed up my family room area -my house thermostat is on a wall approx. 25 feet away from the fireplace -so much that the air conditioning kicked on. It was a cool-ish day, and I installed this around mid-day, and I don't think the A/C came on again that afternoon. If I have any problems with this when fireplace season gets in full swing, I'll come back to update, but so far I'm very pleased and impressed with this product.

I bought this in summer so havent had the chance to test it fully. I will put it through the acid test this winter. It tested fine a few weeks ago and the blower was quieter than what I expected it to be.

So far happy with it, but I will probably come back in Dec-Jan to re-rate it if necessary.

I went to a local fireplace store and bought a unit from them. They said it was going to work with my fireplace but it did not. I returned it and then looked on Amazon (I should have looked here first). This unit works really well. It heats most of the floor that is is on. The fan is not that loud even when on high. I would buy this again.

Having burned out, drenched, accidentally kinked, and destroyed enough Polder probes to fill an oven, I finally threw in the towel and went elsewhere for a digital probe thermometer. CDN's Proaccurate may finally be the end of my search for a worthy successor.

Digital probe thermometers are a godsend for cooks who like to set it and forget it when cooking. You want that steak done to exactly 145 degrees? The probe thermometer will tell you. Just stick it in the meat, set the finished temp, and let the beep tell you when it's exactly medium rare. When it works, this kind of thermometer is indispensable.

Therein lies the rub, though. "When it works...." Most of the digital probe thermometers on the market suffer from the same chink in the armor--their probes are flimsy. Not only are the wires inside the probe itself thin when compared with the braided metal housing that holds them, but they can't take the heat, either. Most probes top out at a little over 380 degrees. You run the risk of burning it out when checking oil temperatures, something every probe should be able to do. And if your oven cycles its heat on and off, you could have it set for 350 but it may vary between 300 and 400 while cooking for twenty minutes or more. The result is a cooked probe.

But not with the CDN Proaccurate. The probe cord itself is significantly thicker (fifty percent or more, from my guess) and the temperature tops out almost a hundred degrees higher than the other guys at 482. Plus, unlike the other guys, this unit carries a full five year warranty--including the probe. You can't find that in any other digital probe thermometer I've seen.

Pros:

* Probe withstands highest heat I've seen offered--482 degrees F--and is far more hefty than competitors

* Meat selector settings (Chicken, Beef, Lamb, Turkey, Pork, Veal) with doneness levels

* Accurate. Approved for Food Service Industry usage

* Twenty-four hour count down and up timer

* Large display

* Includes wall mount, magnetic attachment to metal surfaces, and is free-standing

* Good price point

* Five year warranty

* CDN was swift in answering e-mailed questions I had about the unit

Cons:

* No seconds displayed on timer

* Design won't be confused with anything coming out of Europe :-)

* Non-intuitive operation on a couple functions

* Plastic case is not heat-resistant

* Tiny indicator makes it hard to tell if the unit is running when using timer

* Alarm is not as loud as other units out there

* Probe still prone to water damage (no dishwasher)

* Hard to read times less than ten minutes due to shadow of case on digits near the right side

Overall, as a new user my review is positive. Time will tell concerning ruggedness, but I am hopeful given the clear difference in probes between the CDN and other units out there. This CDN model is almost worthy of five stars, but the lack of seconds on the timer is a bad design decision from my point of view. I know from experience with other units that watching those seconds roll by gave me some assurance from a distance that the timer was running.

So for all you Polder and Taylor users who are exasperated with probe failures on your thermometers, this CDN may be what you've been looking for.

I am a big fan of probe thermometers, and I have owned and ruined several of them; each a different brand. The CDN is the most accurate and can withstand high heat best on the market in this price range. I have owned this thermometer for over a year now, and in this time it has:

1. Been rained on at least 5 times.

2. Dropped in our pool.

3. Been hidden in our sandbox.

4. Been dropped on hot coals and backing partially melted.

Each time this thermometer has miraculously come back to life and worked perfectly! The original battery is still going.

If I had to purchase a new one, it would be this thermometer!

Best Deals on CDN Digital Programmable Probe Thermometer

After much research into these devices, I decided to purchase the CDN brand for my husband as a gift. I chose this brand since it had a higher temperature range than that of the other brands available. This one goes up to 482degrees. So far he seems to love this thermometer. It seems very accurate in reading the internal temp of the meats. He loves that it allows him to program what type of meat and for beef the taste(rare,m.rare,med,well). The cable connecting the device to the probe seems to be pretty strong--braided wire. I have seen other devices by other brands that the cables "burn out". This was one of the deciding factors in purchasing the CDN brand. My husband loves the magnetic feature that allows him to stick it to the side of the oven! I am also excited to see the thermometer comes with a clip for candy making and frying. I havent had a chance to use it for this purpose yet, but it makes the device much more versatile & useful. The temperature display is quite large and easy to read...so it will work good for someone who cant read small print. I would actually give this product 4 &1/2 stars. The only reasons I would deduct half a star are: 1)the casing is plastic (cannot use on BBQ)and 2)the timer beeper isnt that loud (you cant hear it if upstairs or more than a room away, so you need to stay in earshot to hear the timer go off). All in all its a great product. I would recommend it. Buy it and you will never have dried out or undercooked meat again. Its well worth it! The chef in your life will thank you!

Honest reviews on CDN Digital Programmable Probe Thermometer

The thermometer looks really good at first. Great range for candy making (unlike one of the more inexpensive models that Amazon sells) and reasonable wire length. For the past two months its been great. Then it suddenly gave poor measurements (based on salt free ice water, fully equilibrated, and salt free boiling water). It is approx 25 degrees below what it should read. So I'm sending it back. The unit comes with a 5 year warranty. We'll see what type of response I get.

Update: ended up getting a warranty replacement. This too worked for a while and then failed. Stay away

I found myself doing quite a bit of research before buying a digital probe thermometer... it seems that each brand and model has it's 'gotchas,' so unless you spend several hundred bucks on a laboratory grade thermometer, you're gonna have to deal with one or more disadvantages... unreliable probes, inaccurate readings, inconvenient menus, inadequate range, flimsy construction, etc. The questions I ended up asking myself were, what are the most desirable qualities, and what are the disadvantages I could live with?

First and foremost, I wanted one that was reliable. Unfortunately, every single model contained reviews from folks whose thermometers didn't make it a month let alone a year. So the next step was to look at the frequency of problems, and perhaps more important, the warranty. CDN was the only one with a five year warranty (one that they seem to cheerfully honor, judging by feedback), so that went a very long way toward making my decision.

Next was temperature range... most digital probe thermometers peak out at under 392 degrees. I didn't feel that was enough so there was another point in favor of the CDN, which is one of the very few that tops out at 482 degrees.

Finally, it came with a metal clip for use on the rim of saucepans, stockpots and so forth... why this cheap but useful little accessory is an optional extra purchase with many other models is a testament to the idiocy and greed of companies who want to get the product out there for the cheapest possible price and then hit you up later for things they should have provided in the first place.

Now that I've lived with the CDN Proaccurate a month or so, I have to say I'm pleased. Tested against two other thermometers the CDN seems accurate, and though it's response seems a bit slow, it's not really meant for instant readings anyway. Other minor gripes? Well, it's not very intuitive when it comes to setting some of the functions... but once you use it a few times you get used to that. Probably my major disappointment is that the timer counts only hours and minutes, no seconds... this coupled with the very small blinking indicator means that it's difficult to tell when it's running. As I said, these are minor gripes... overall I'm extremely pleased with this purchase.

I bought two of these for night-time television viewing.

One for him, one for me. He was reluctant at first. But with the three levels of heat, (mine always on high, his on low) it really made us feel cozy. And they fold up neatly and easily when you're done.

I know this kept us from turning up the heat on a few cold nights, they paid for themselves already.

This is a very nice and plush blanket. It was packaged well and delivered on time. I washed and tumble dried immediately with no issues or complaints. Confident this will pay for itself in decreased heating bills. I recommend this product as well as seller.

I really like this blanket because it is really soft and comfortable. However, it doesn't get as warm as what I had expected, even when it is on the highest setting...not sure how good it will be when Winter arrives (my house gets really cold)...

Honest reviews on Sunbeam Microplush Throw Camelot Cuddler Electric Heated Warming

My wife (and daughter) stay cold throughout the winter, so anything that helps keep the thermostat below 75ºF during the winter gets my wallet's seal of approval! It's so popular, on several occasions they have both tried to use it at the same time, so we bought a second (pink) one for our daughter. It's really cute seeing them both wrapped up for a night of movies.

I bought two of these warming throws for my husband and me. His quit warming within a few months but we did get it replaced after shipping it off to the tune of $15 cost. Now that it is October, I got my throw out (the one that didn't break) and it won't warm. what is with this product?? They cost too much, cost too much to send back and they will not last!!!!!!!! Really disappointed.

I have a little AV cabinet that held in all the heat from my PS3, xBox 360 and reciever. it caused the reciever to die and was a very costly repair. These fans make all the difference. They are very quite, you can hardly hear them running from 10 feet away, and the overall noise is very low, it does not bother you when they are on or take away fromt the vewing or gaming experience. They are thermistatically controlled to turn on and off at 80 degrees which makes sure they are only running when they are needed.

Great product, would recommened.

I was looking for a cabinet exhaust fan kit for my cabinet which includes Dish HD DVR and external USB Hard Drive in one shelf, PS3 with another external USB Hard Drive in another shelf of the cabinet with other components like audio receiver, dvd multi changer, dvd recorder in other shelfs of same cabinet.

Many times dish receiver switches itself off due to overheat in the cabinet. Similar problem with PS3.

I bought this CabCool1203 kit and installed in first shelf contaning dish hd receiver and usb hard drive. Although first I thought the assembly will be complex but it was so easy after watching the video on YouTube (and even with instruction that comes with kit). This product works perfectly. Fans comes on automatically as son as temperatures goes above 86F and switches off at 81F. Recommend it to everyone who has hard drive based electronics in the closed cabinets.

I am going to buy one more of these kits now for my PS3 shelf also.

Thanks CoolerGuys.

Works great so far after 30 days of use. Only negative aspect, it is a little pricey in my opinion. Installed easily, love the automatic thermostat feature.

Honest reviews on Coolerguys Cabcool1203 Three 120mm Fan Cooling Kit w/thermal

1. It arrived quickly.

2. Had to be put together, but I liked that you could choose which way to have the fans blow, and less work to take it apart if you wanted to change it.

3. Parts were all there, bolts, nuts, etc.

4. Easy to hook up and mount, 20 min or so.

5. Fan kicks on whenever my amp gets hot.

6. The only downside is it does generate some noise, but not enough to detract from the TV when playing.

My husband bought this fan to install in the back of our 90" TV console. He is a techie so we have a lot of electronics in there. Other than when he has 12 hour LAN parties the glass doors don't need to stay open. This fan quietly and effectively deals with the heat build up.

We just had a record-breaking heat wave. I live in a poorly-insulated house that becomes hot in 85-degree weather, and we hit 100. (Just north of Seattle, WA.) This A/C did a great job of cooling two small rooms (cool one room, move the A/C to another room, cool that one, then back again, for about a week).

Some observations:

1. You MUST vent a portable A/C out a window or into a drop-ceiling, or you just pump the hot air back into the room.

2. Portables seem to work better when elevated (hot air rises, so this helps keep the "convection effect" going by getting closer to the hot air).

3. It's a little noisy. Adding rubber gasket material to the vents reduces the noise a lot by damping the vibrations.

4. An A/C's BTU rating must match the room size, or the unit simply won't work right. This is true of all A/Cs, and seems to be somewhat critical for portables.

5. It acts as a dehumidifier, which means that you have to drain the water tank regularly or the unit will shut off until you do. (An indicator light tells you when you need to drain the tank.)

So, for those who need to cool small rooms, I think this is a good buy. It has been for me.

----------------------------

Follow-Up on Aug 28, 2009:

----------------------------

I just put the a/c into the garage to store until next year. This thing worked beautifully in the small rooms, but I didn't try it in any of the larger rooms.

----------------------------

Follow-Up on Aug 31, 2010:

----------------------------

I just put it into the garage to store until next year. This year I used it in one of the larger rooms because I installed a window a/c in the smaller room, and it did a decent job of keeping the place cool. So far I've had two seasons of trouble-free cooling, so I'd say I got my money's worth. I may buy one more next year for my studio.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

So, I live in a studio. Not very big at all. You would think this air conditioner would be able to handle keeping it cool. Well, not so much.

Regardless of how low I set it, or how long I kept it running, it kept my studio at 78 degrees. It was actually a better deal to shut it off, open the windows/door and let the air circulate. It actually got cooler in there once I did that.

Moreover, the hose you connect to the window vent is an eye sore, and isn't flexible enough to let your place the unit somewhere convenient. So you end up having to leave the A/C unit in the middle of the room instead of neatly in a corner or against the wall because the vent hose doesn't allow otherwise.

This is pretty much the worse purchase I have made in a LONG time. Worse of all, it doesn't even make sense for me to return it. The seller charges as 12% "re-stocking fee". Moreover, I would need to carry the huge 70+lbs box up and down stairs to get it back to my work so UPS can pick it up. The box is very flimsy once you remove the nylon ribbons that it comes sealed with, and doesn't really allow you to transport it without spending some money on repackaging.

So yeah, I'm stuck with a $300 70+lbs paper weight. Good times.

[EDITED 07/30]: So I was contacted by the seller (CompactApplience) and their conclusion was that my studio was too big for the 8,000 BTU rating. They actually let me return just the A/C unit without having to worry about packing all the awkwardly-shaped pieces, and reimbursed me for everything, including shipping. Although I've decided NOT to try a different unit with a greater BTU rating, I'm leaving this review here so that hopefully people looking into buying this or any other unit are aware of the importance of considering the size of the room you're trying to cool down when you choose the unit BTU. I was remotely aware of that, but didn't look too much into it, and you saw what happened... Luckily for me, the seller handled the situation superbly well. A happy ending, after all. :)

OVERVIEW

I live in a 300sq foot studio with a 15 foot ceiling and a south-facing bay window. My apartment gets hot when it's sunny and is almost always damp/humid. I got the Koldfront because it was the only unit that would fit in my available surface area: on top of my kitchen cabinets. I already had ducting running through my cabinets to vent my over-range microwave, so I popped the Koldfront on top of my cabinet and tied the exhaust into my existing duct work.

It takes the Koldfront about 5-7 minutes to cool my apartment down to habitable from digustingly hot. Technically, I think my space is supposed to be a little too big for this machine, but having it blow cold air across my ceiling seems to do a good job of displacing all the hot air, and since it's located high up, it should be sucking warm air out as it cools the condensers.

I ran this machine for a couple of days at ground level and was less than excited about it's potential, I could actually feel a temperature differential about two feet off the ground between cold and hot air. But moving it closer to my ceiling made all the difference. When it was on the floor, all it did was move air and maybe cool a little bit. Now that it's at ceiling height I'm actually getting chilly.

FAN SPEED

There are three fan speeds: high is pretty loud, and low is still relatively loud. I've gotten used to it pretty quickly though, it pretty much acts as white noise, dampening external sounds.

MODES

AC, Dehumidifier, and Fan are the available mode settings for this machine. I'm happy about these options since you won't always need/want the condensers coming on and off, and you can dehumidify when it's cold out without turning on the AC.

WATER RESERVOIR

The koldfront is supposed to vent humidity out through the ducting, but has a water resevoir for high humidity situations. Unlike some machines, the reservoir isn't a bucket that you can remove from the machine. To drain the reservoir, you have to pull out a little plug at the bottom of the AC, which is about two inches off the ground. That doesn't give you much room to maneuver a drain pan. Fortunately, at 50LBS, it's not too heavy to put in the bathtub and let drain there. The lack of an accessible reservoir is a definite con though. Apparently the Koldfront is made to be able to hard-wire a drain, so that may be an option for some. I ran my machine on and off for a couple of days in San Francisco and it drained something like a cup of water. I don't know the total size of the reservoir, but the drain indicator lite hadn't turned on yet before I drained it.

THERMOSTAT

I've read some reviews complaining of an inaccurate thermostat on the KOLDFRONT, but mine seems to be about spot on.

REMOTE AND LCD PANEL

Don't lose the remote, or if you do, hope you had your Koldfront set exactly how you want to have it because there's no way to change settings without the remote. The remote itself is pretty intuitive, with power, up, down, mode, fan speed, Celsius/Fahrenheit, timer, and cancel buttons. And it comes with batteries. The LCD panel reads the ambient temperature in either Celsius or Fahrenheit until you press the up or down button on the remote, in which case it reads your preset temperature preference. There's a blue/green/yellow LED that indicates whether you're in AC/dehumidifier/ or fan mode, respectively. The information on the LCD is large enough to read from several feed away.

ASSEMBLY

Like most appliances, the Koldfront came with a cardboard cover over the packaging and plastic ties keeping it on. You just cut the ties and lift the cardboard cover off the machine. Inside, there's just a couple pieces of Styrofoam, the AC, and the window kit, plastic duct, instructions, remote, and two AAA batteries for the remote. The AC itself doesn't require any assembly, aside from plugging the duct in. The drain plug on mine had popped out, so I just twisted it back into place. There's a little more involved in assembling the window kit, but the instructions are pretty good on how to get that together. All you need (if your window is the right size) is a phillips head screw driver. The window kit is held into place by the weight of your window and doesn't need to be screwed into the window frame at all.

CONCLUSION

Overall, I'm happy with my Kodlfront. Mine arrived fully functional out of the box, and raising it to ceiling height has made it a lean, mean studio-cooling machine. It's a little bit bigger than I had guessed from the picture, but it's still smaller than most, and fit where I needed it to. It's loud, but inexpensive and has a built in thermostat and remote. Draining it is going to be a hassle, since I've moved it out of easy reach, but there's nothing else on the market that would have worked for me, so four stars for working properly, but not five, because of the lack of controls on the machine, the lack of a removable reservoir, and the loudness of the fan.

Honest reviews on EdgeStar Ultra Compact 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner - White

Listen up, everyone!

When buying an air conditioner you MUST make sure that your room is the adequate size for the unit that you are buying. It seems that a lot of negative reviews are due to the following: Too much room, too little BTUs. It is the same with gas mileage on a car. You can't expect to get 35 mpg highway while driving 70 mph with a fully loaded car. However, most portable air conditioners overrated their cooling power by 50% (see a Kid's review). So, when you buy an AC always buy 50% more BTUs than is recommended (8,000 BTU recommended unit should be 12,000 BTU). With that said I would recommend this Koldfront AC unit.

Pros:

Very portable and lightweight

Low noise

Easy to use controls

Price

Has a timer

Compact

Cons:

Will only cool a small room/area

Needs to be drained (DON'T believe what the instructions state)

Should be set on a table or set higher than the drain hose

Does not do a good cooling job when it is humid

So, if you have a small area to cool, live in a low humidity area and want a QUIET portable AC under $300 then this is the one for you.

I bought the Koldfront 8000BTU portable AC unit to cool a small, 150 sq ft drum room in my garage. I live in South Florida, so it does get a quite hot and humid. The room itself is completely isolated from the garage, but if not cooled, it gets up into the 90's in there. I built the room and installed an exhaust vent and PVC drainage line for the AC unit. The first unit I owned ran ~12 hours a day (off at night) and worked well for about 12 months. It maintained a dry, cool (~70-72deg) environment for my drums. Then, it stopped cooling the air. The fan worked, but no cool air and no condenser water. I called the company, and though very responsive on the phone, said the unit was out of warranty. So... I purchased a second one for about $260. This one worked fine on the same settings for about 6 months before the same thing happened. I may be stressing this unit, but 6 months? Come on... If you need this unit for long term cooling, I recommend going with something more robust. Otherwise, it probably works fine for limited applications. Hope this helps.

With this product, water constantly leaked into the outside unit in the pool. O ring did not seal properly. I returned it.

This is my second remote pool thermometer. The first, a different brand, died after one year, but it gave me a basis of comparison with this product. No contest. The design of my first thermometer was stupid by comparison.

This unit was far easier to set up. The process for installing batteries is simple and straightforward. The transmitter and receiver connected almost immediately. More importantly, the two units continued their connection over a greater distance than could be achieved with my former product. I have the receiver on the third floor of our house and it has never dropped a connection with the transmitter.

The transmitter has a digital readout that can be observed at the pool. The receiver shows your pool temperature, temperature at the receiver's location, date, day, time, and it has an alarm feature.

I have zero issues with this product, but I cannot attest to product life or battery life as I have been running it for only two months. But so far, quite happy.
