I cannot help but wonder why "brick and mortar" stores are amazed when they lose business to Amazon. This same valve was over $300 at a local plumbing supply.

The part itself is a perfect match to the one I needed to replace. Wiring terminals were all solid and I was able to replace the bad valve in about 5 minutes. The operation of this valve is much quieter than the others in my system. I'm not sure if that is a measure of improvements made to the part, or the age of my other valves.

I did not use the sweat-fitting as my system's existing mechanical valve portion was fine. The old electrical valve burned out after 10 years. Though it did get wet, by the looks of things, so I hope for longer life out of the new valve.

I cannot compare this to other valves made by other companies, I have no experience with them. However, we have 4 of this model in our house and we have only ever had one fail.

I do, however, recommend this as a replacement part if you have the same valve in use now.

The Danby is great and it almost the only frig on the planet this size.

After converting to a vegan diet, we found that our built-in refrigerator (several thousand dollars purchase price) did not have the right storage capacity for fresh vegetables and other foods that have now become a part of our eating plan. So, we decided to add a secondary refrigerator. After checking out several local stores for a "refrigerator only" appliance, we turned to the internet and found the Danby. We ordered it, received email communication regarding delivery, had it delivered, and set it up ourselves. It works great, holds a lot, and is small enough that we could put it in the corner of our dining room. It is quite, unobtrusive, and has great interior space. The literature we received with the Danby shows a freezer that is the same size as the refrigerator. Side by side, they would offer a great alternative to the traditional refrigerator/freezer. Overall, this product does the job: it is compact, with full glass shelves, great for extra refrigerator space, which is how we and others seem to use it. It doesn't cool as effectively as we would like; we see a big swing in temperatures with no change in contents. Most of the time the temperature is at the very top end of the desired refrigerator cooling range.

We have a garden and will be storage garden vegetables in here. We were looking for a second frig with a small footprint because it needed to go into the corner of our mud room area between the dining room and the garage. There aren't many on the market this size. I only found one other made by Summit and it was $250.00 more. The unit fit perfectly where I wanted it to go. What a great space saver. Inside has more than enough storage and compartments. The design is typical. I can keep 24 quart bottles of my favorite sparkling beverage on the top shelf and my wife puts all the redundant items like half and half, jarred veggies, and all those items you would like to not keep in the main frig that take up all that space. I won't know for sure on the performance of this until the warmer weather gets here. We didn't get it until the beginning of December. So far it has been fine.

I bought this thermostat for my den, which has electric baseboard heat. The original thermostat looked like it was 30 years old; instead of a dial with temperatures, it had one ranging from 0 to 4. Getting the room to a comfortable temperature was impossible.

This thermostat is simple to use and is VERY good at keeping the temperature steady. It is also silent. Programming it is pretty straightforward. I should mention that you cannot set completely distinct temperatures for each time of day. You basically enter a warn daytime temp and a cooler night temp. When programming, you decide which of the two temps to use during each period of the day. This limitation actually makes it simpler to program and works well for me.

The only feature that is missed is a back-light.

I like the thermostat. I have 2 and will buy 2 more for my older 2-line heaters. I just wish it was smaller like the Aube 115

EDIT: I have used these and the 115 for about 3 years without problems until last week. I had an 106 get melted at the connection point. The wire rating, voltage, and heater sizes were all in the safety zone. My breaker never tripped either. I have now learned about the aluminum to copper connection issue. One would think that'd be more prominent in the instruction manual and that proper connectors would be supplied. The manual says:

"Special CO/ALR solderless connectors must be used when connecting with aluminum conductors." My thought was that I have copper wiring so its a non-issue. I was ignorant about it, and it seemed like such a straight forward thermostat install/replacement. I hope others will learn from this and that Aube/Honeywell would draw more attention to the safety issue for the average consumer. I'm just glad the house didn't catch on fire.

I have an old 1950's 240volt 4000watt electric in-wall header--the kind with three ceramic cylinders wrapped with a coiled wire. It's a two-wire system, which means that the electricity isn't grounded and comes from two circuit breakers. Previously I used the thermostate that came on the unit, which was placed below the heating elements. I would sometimes be sweating and then freezing. I had no idea what temperature I was setting it at and if it got really cold at night or had a warm spell, the temperature was all over the place. That didn't help my electric bill at all. I've used this about 2 weeks now and it's an amazing difference. I use a ceiling fan to help distribute the temperature in the room, but I no longer have the fluctuations. I have it set to automatically analyze how quick the room heats. And often the unit doesn't even turn on at full force (which was the only option before). It gets hot enough just to push the temperature up a degree or two. Sometimes I would turn off my heater during the day to save money, but when I turned it back on at night, it would often take 3 or so hours to bring it up to a comfortable temperature since the unit would turn on and off. The thermostat keeps the unit on at full blast until the temperature is reached so the large room now only takes about 20 to 30 minutes to heat up and then it goes back to the just touches of heat from then on. I'm very glad to have this unit. The programmed day and night buttons are also great and easy. To program an new temperature, you just hold down the sun or moon and it'll store the desired temperature.

The only things I wish it had was a backlight for the screen and for the day and night program buttons to be on the front when the flap is closed. I have gotten tired of opening the flap, so I just leave it open now and hit those to buttons as a walk by as needed. But those are a small inconvenience for the comfort level I now have. Other than a manual mechanical thermostat that isn't as accurate, this was the only 4000 watt digital thermostat. But I'm very pleased with it.

Excellent programmable thermostat overall with a very nice finish.

As stated in previous reviews this has a "variable" heat level control that in a sense only uses part of the heating capabilities of the baseboard as needed. This is a huge benefit as it prevents baseboard heaters from creaking as they expand from constant on/off from the old knob heater controls. It is also nice to know how hard your heating system is working to keep your house warm.

The other nice thing we have noticed is that the thermostat shows very accurate measurement of how warm the room is. I have compared it against several other digital thermal sensors and this is spot on.

This dehydrator is great. I've had the unit for almost a month now. So far I've dehydrated 20 pounds of "eye of round" for jerky. The recipe I used is at Recipezaar (can't post URL), recipe number 161262 (modified a bit to suite my taste, like I added about 1 tsp of onion powder and cut the liquid smoke about 25%). In fact I just did 10 of the 20 pounds yesterday. I've also dehydrated cantaloupe, kiwi slices, strawberries, grapes (come out as plump and juicy raisins), limes, oranges (those were more of an experiment), banana slices and watermelon (now that was interesting... sweet as candy), but back to the review.

I also got two sets of the Add-a-tray (two trays per package). It dries with all 8 trays just fine. I do rotate the trays about half way through, but I'm not sure I would really have to. The instructions say that the trays are top shelf dishwasher safe, but that would limit my dishwasher to only two trays per load, so I take my top rack out of the dishwasher and stand the trays vertically in the lower rack. I can get all eight trays and the base into the dishwasher at once. I figured that my water heater is only set to 125 degrees and I dry jerky at 165, so the trays shouldn't have any problem. Just make sure that you turn off any internal water heating the dishwasher my have and make sure that you turn off heated drying (use air dry). I just wait for the washer to stop, take out the trays and shake them off. Stack them, put on the power head and run it at 125 for 30 minutes. All nice, clean and dry.

Now for the hint that Nesco doesn't want me to share :) for fruit, you really need to use the Clean Screens, but at 8 bucks for a pair, you'll spend $32.00 (plus any shipping) to get enough for all 8 trays. I went to my local craft store (you know the one owned by Michael) and bought 16 sheets of plastic embroidery mesh (7 square mesh) that were 14" X 10" (the ones you would use to make those awful square Kleenex box covers). Take two sheets per tray and cut them out yourself with kitchen shears. Put them together butted up on the long side and then cut the perimeter to fit the tray and cut out the hole (1/2 of the hole in each sheet where they are butted up) for the center and then lay the two pieces into the tray. The sheets were $0.33 each, so 16 sheets only cost $5.28 and a bit of time to cut them out. Didn't really need them for the cantaloupe, but I'd still be cleaning kiwi and bananas off the trays if I hadn't used them. I throw them into the dishwasher with the trays and just run the whole load at once. All in all, this was a great buy and I'm glad I got it.

So, I've spent a few more months with my dry friend... that's a pun... :-)

This unit is now $49. I bought it and am happy with it at $70. Now, there is no reason not to give it a try!

About 3 months ago, I bought the jerky squeeze gun. I got it at BiMart in Oregon for $2 more than you can get it here at Amazon (the instant gratification thing). Available here. Search for Nesco BJX-5 American Harvest Jumbo Jerky Works Kit. My daughter and I make the round "slim-jim" type jerky every couple of months (about 4 lbs of 96% lean ground beef each time). The squeeze gun is as easy as using a caulking gun. Actually even better since you really don't need to be concerned about the aesthetic appearance of the final product... I mean we're taking jerky here and you can't eat caulk. I use the Nesco spicy mix with additional black pepper, powered garlic and cayenne pepper (lot's of cayenne pepper).

We've also, since buying it, done some fruit leather. Just used a jar of store bought apple sauce with a bit of added cinnamon. Next time, I think we'll put a bit of Splenda(r) in it just to "sweeten" the final product a bit. Tip... even using processed apple sauce, we put it through the blender to completely break it down into a slurry.

My "home made" clean screens are still preforming perfectly. Hope this update helps others.

Well, it's been a year and not so much an update as an opportunity to say Happy New Year to you all.

Just before Christmas, the Lovely Mrs. symo, got a really good deal on some rump roast (two 7 lb pieces). It was very lean and after slicing, was easy to cut the one strand of tough sinew out. Used the Mr. Yoshida's again, but this time cut it 2 parts to 1 part water. Then put it into a sauce pan and heated to high simmer (did not let it boil). Added red chili flakes, onion powder, garlic powder and some Ow Powder (). Let the mixture cool to room temp. I'm still working/experimenting with the final amounts of Ow. Marinaded the slices for 12 hours. Had 6 of the eight trays loaded. On two trays, I sprinkled (liberally) with fine grind black pepper. Came out fantastic.

Now a word about the Ow Powder. If you go to their website and aren't scared, then go back there again :-) This is the hot of the hot. I found this stuff in Albuquerque, at the International Firey Foods Festival. At the festival, I dipped a dry wooden coffee stirrer into the powder. Once the tears stopped, I found that I could drink 3 12-ounce bottles of Budweiser in about 2.4 minutes :-)

For 3 cups of the marinade (2 parts Mr. Y and 1 part water and all the other "stuff" mentioned above), I added 1/4 teaspoon of Ow. Next time I'll probably go with 3/8 teaspoon. This stuff starts off slow, but you will get some fire at the end. It contains a mixture of chili peppers, one of which is bhut jolokia (Indian pepper that was put on the planet by the All Mighty for some sadistic purpose, I'm sure). They also have pure ground bhut jolokia, but I think your should look into a gas mask/respirator before ordering that.

And now a word about the slices. Got a slicer for my B-day in October. One of the various brands that sell for around $69 here and elsewhere (http://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Smart-Electric-Food-Slicer/dp/B002JKX59C/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1294017780&sr=8-14). Now this is the way to go for sliced jerky. First time I used it, I cut the slices too thin and the marinade basically dissolved the meat into mush :-) Second time, I sliced the meat somewhere around 3/16. This thickness worked very well. Really, the slicer is a great add-on if you really want to do slab jerky vs. ground jerky.

Oh, oh, oh... just remembered. Also I've taken to starting my slab jerky at the 165 degree setting for about 2 hours and then backing it down to between the 115 and 125 and letting it go until dry. This will cause you to need to rotate the trays, but the results are really worth the extra effort.

So, there you have it. Updated report and a couple of extras thrown in for free :-)

I'm still dehydrating with my Nesco. Daughter has moved on to her own place (yea! for her... and for mother and I). The wife and I are contemplating a move to Ecuador for our retirement. We were down there in November and after a trip to the market in the plaza (Otavalo), we saw so many FRESH fruits and vegetables (some of the fruits I didn't even know) that we're excited to take the Nesco there.

I really haven't tried much more experimenting as everything is working great, just as I've described over the last 2 1/2 years. My original "homemade" clean screens look as good as they did on the day I made them. I still love cantaloupe with pepper sprinkled on it and we're going to do another sliced jerky batch tomorrow to take with me to Ecuador on Thursday (going for language school for a month).

--Update to the update --Well, I did make a big batch and took 3/4 of it to work... don't those people eat? By noon, it was gone. The 1/4 I had left was in the suitcase, until I found out that dried meat is on the list of what you can't take. Oh well, at least I'll have 1/4 pound to come home to :-)

Happy New Year to all of you! It's great to see that this thread is still active.

This coming weekend, we're going to do apples. Got a case as a present and plan on making some 3/8 slices (soaked in Fruit Fresh) for some yum chews.

Dehydrated this last year, 6 more batches of the sliced jerky and probably 8-9 batches of the ground jerky. Did some pineapple and other fruits. Everything working great. Didn't experiment too much on the jerky, as I really have my spices dialed in for the family and the guys at work... who, apparently still don't eat regularly, considering they way they go through the jerky. My original substitute clean screens are working perfectly.

Retirement is less than 90 days away (29 March 2013). I have now attended language school in Ecuador for two months (my wife has been for a month) and I have all my documents lined out for the Residency Visa. Mid April is the "fly away" time frame. Lynn will come next year (school contract thing).

I hope you all have a great time using this Nesco Dehydrator! Like I said before, I'll be spending less "active" time here, but even Ecuador has internet connections... I'll be keeping an eye on the discussions. Experiment, have fun, eat what you make, experiment some more.

I've had a great time in this thread and still want to know how long a million mangos take to dry :-)

Years ago I had one of the round dehydrators with the drying unit on the bottom. This one is great because the drying unit is on the top. No more liquids dripping down onto the operational part of the unit. It has a plastic tray to catch the drips. I also like the square shape. I am able to get more on each tray compared to the round tray design. The plastic screens are round though. I did like the review from someone here suggesting using plastic mesh from the craft store. Wish I had seen that before I ordered my extra ones. I also like that it is quieter than the one I used to have. I have dried tomatoes, carrots and herbs so far. Jerky is next on the list.

Update: I still use this dehydrator. But I would no longer recommend it if you are going to do alot of dehydrating. I spent the extra money and bought an Excalibur and it is amazing how more efficient it is compared to the Nesco square dehydrator. While I liked having the fan element on the top away from any drips it is not as efficient as the Excalibur's fan that blows the air across the trays instead of vertically through all the trays and the wet food. The Excalibur is noisier than the Nesco.

Bottom line: If noise is a bigger issue than efficiency for you then get the Nesco. If efficiency is more important than noise and you will be dehydrating a lot then splurge for the Excalibur with the horizontal blowing air.

I have put this dehydrator 'through the paces', making jerky and drying fruit. It's done a great job with both. I've had the more common round type of dehydrator in the past, so I was interested in this square-shaped one. Much better! Food fits on the square sheets much better. The drying is very uniform, without need for moving the trays during the drying process. Great price too, with several accessories available. Very pleased with this compact, efficient dehydrator--and it's American-made too!

I originally bought this dehydrator with the idea that I wanted to make dog jerky treats. You have no idea how expensive they are to buy on the open market! We buy these beef jerky treats and they are like $3.00 a pop.

Well, I bought a London Broil on sale for $7.00 at Whole Foods which looked really lean and used my mom's meat slicer to make paper thin cuts. Oh, you have to freeze it for an hour or so, that way the meat cuts easier.

Anyway, I cut it, layered the meat on the trays after adding a tiny bit of salt to the slices to preserve them and plugged in the machine. I started up my dehydrator at 11:30 and kept it going till 4:30 and used the jerky temperature setting. I also made sure during the last two hours to take the hydrator top off and used paper towels to wipe any oils that came out of the meats. Basically, this didn't take too long and I put the lid back on and did this two more times. They recommended that in their recipe book.

The good news! The jerky tasted great and was sorta like a roast beef jerky. My dog wouldn't leave my side and basically woofed at me as I put it all into storage bags for the freezer (with air removal too). Basically, we both enjoyed a few slices of jerky together and were in heaven. I plan on stopping at Whole Foods to buy another to make a Teriyaki version for myself since I was avoiding chemicals for the dog treats. Unfortunately, they taste good enough that I'm tempted to eat them!

I am more than happy with this machine! It's great! My mom had an older model with the fan underneath and this is way easier to clean and did a better job.

The only thing I did do was switch the order of the trays so that the bottom one was up close to the top and so on halfway through the process. It was more of a wipe the meat and put the tray to the side and then they all ended up in that order.

Next week pineapple! I did order the mesh screens so that won't happen for a few more days. I'll post another review once I do that test. :) I was reading that pineapple was sticky so I need those first.

Oh, all those websites that recommend spraying oil on the trays don't do it! The recipe book tells you not to do it and frankly, this machine did so well that they never really stuck. Oil would just make a mess and the 160 degree temperature would probably cause a smell. The meat was fine without anything sprayed on the trays.

Oh, if you're wondering about how quiet it is it's VERY quiet. I was stunned compared to my mom's machine from 20 some years ago. You'll be very pleased with this product as it's worth every penny.

I bought this heater based on the features and a good CR review as there were a limited # of reviews on Amazon. One thing I liked about this heater is it puts out heat at approx. 24" off of the floor. I use it in my home office and my two previous Holmes ceramic heaters were very low and would direct the heat into my computer air intake which wasn't very good for me or my computer. Although I really didn't think I needed a remote to change the heat settings, I find it very useful to control the oscillation or temp setting. You can change all settings manually on the front panel if you loose your remote. It seems to throw out much more heat than any of my previous 1500W heaters and easily heats my 16 x 16 ft room in short order. The LED display is well lit and the construction is fairly impressive and sturdy. The fan seems to have much more CFM than your average space heater, but without any real dicernable noise especially when on the phone etc. About the only thing I can complain about is that in the Automatic temperature control mode the unit will only run in the high 1500W mode. If you use the Auto thermostatically controlled feature and it's relatively close to you, it will get a little too warm which is easily resolved by turning the temperature down or putting it in the manual mode on low. I think for this heater to keep you warm, it doesn't really need to be within 5ft as you can place it anywhere in most rooms in the auto mode to keep the whole room temperature constant. For the cost, I don't see how anyone could complain about this heater, but I'm sure someone will! I just ordered a second one for my family room which is much larger, but I feel it will handle it with ease. I would have ordered two as I am giving one to my Mother for Christmas, but they restocked and sold out all but one in 24 hours! I'm sure that a lot more people will say good things about this heater. BTW I checked the kW per hour usage with a meter, on the high setting and it uses around 1.36 kWh or around 15 cents/hr at average electric rates, but it is very unlikely that you would need to run this heater constantly on high unless you were heating a very large room. I would assume that it would be about half that on the low setting (750W).

Great product! Immediately turns out a lot of heat but the heater itself stays cool to the touch. Love the setting to have the heater automatically monitor the room temp and switch on and off in order to maintain the desired temperature. The only thing I do not like about the heater is that after being turned off, when you turn it back on it goes straight to the heater setting instead of "remembering" that we had been using the automatic temperature monitoring setting.

I put this heater in use at the beginning of December, 2012 and kept track of the power usage with a Kill-A-Watt meter for that month. I ran it for about 8 hours every night set at 65 degrees to keep the master bedroom warm while the whole-house thermostat was set at 60 degrees. For the month of December the heater used 112.39 kwh which at my electrical rate in Michigan cost $7.83 or 25.2 cents per day. I consider this to be very good. The house is well insulated with outside storm windows on the bedroom. The bedroom is 14x17 ft with an 8 ft ceiling that slopes up to 14 ft.

The only downside that kept it from getting five stars is that it is a bit noisy.

This is a generic replacement valve suitable for many furnaces (24VAC control, 30mv thermocouple, up to 135,000 BTU, 3.5" WC outlet pressure). Its easy enough to install for anyone with some basic plumbing experience. Observations from the install:

Its important to know the specs for your furnace to ensure that you get a compatible valve. Rheem's customer service line was most helpful for me in this regard as was the ratings plate on the unit. You can also consult Honeywell's Universal Gas Valve Selection/Cross Reference Guide (web address below).

The included instructions are clear and comprehensive. You can preview them at (search on the valve part number). For even more info, download Honeywell document 70-2062 which covers gas valves in depth from a technical perspective and describes how to check/set the output pressure by observing flow on your gas meter.

Take a few digital pictures of the original setup, particularly the wiring.

The pilot supply and thermocouple connections were in different locations than the valve being replaced. This required replacing the pilot supply tubing. I used the 5AU59 kit from WW Grainger. Honeywell recommends against reusing the pilot fitting so its probably a good thing anyway. If the thermocouple is old, replace it too.

The pilot fitting provided with the valve has VERY close tolerances for the tubing. Avoid any bends near the fitting as even a slightly out-of-round tube will be hard to install.

The electrical connections are on the furnace-side of the valve making it hard to do wiring using the screw terminals but the 1/4" fast-ons provided are OK. I had to do a little re-wiring since some of the original wiring went to the now inaccessible screw terminals.

I used a Yellow Jacket 78055 Gas Pressure Test Kit, bought on Amazon, to verify and adjust the inlet/output pressures. The valve is set to a nominal 3.5" Water Column. In use, mine ran a skosh low. I tweaked it up to spec but the original setting would have been fine too. The pressure adjust uses a Torx T40 driver but you could get away with a 1/4" flat screwdriver.

I installed the valve with no problems. It came with extra components for custom installations, which i didn't need as I was replacing a similar valve. It worked perfectly and is still working perfectly after 2 months. Good price performance ratio.

Was well calibrated and runs my 29 year old Trane just as well as the old square one (also made by Honeywell) did when it was in good health. I cannot get a window unit due to my window size, and this unit came with a window kit that fit my windows. It worked absolutely perfect for 2 months. Then, on a particularly hot day, the bucket filled up with water and the unit shut off. I drained all the water, which is an absolute pain in the rear to do due to the drain being less than half an inch off the floor. The unit leaks water like a faucet ever since, all over the floor. There is really no effective way to use it anymore. I ordered a different brand that doesn't have water leakage issues. I should have listened to all the reviews I read. I practically paid several hundred dollars for a few months use. What a waste. The unit cools great, but what good is that with water all over your carpet? Stay away from this product.

UPDATE: The unit only leaks when moved. If the water reservoir fills up, and must be drained, the unit must be moved to do so because the drain plug is literally right on the floor and there is no pan or container you can get under it. The reservoir will fill eventually, the unit will have to be drained, will have to be moved, will leak. Once all the water leaks out that is going to leak the unit works great until its time to drain again. Like I said, it took 2 months before I had to drain, but this process was a major PIA. I would avoid this unit, but I still gave in another star because it does not leak except during the drainage process.

The best air conditioners are large central units that connect to a whole building HVAC. Since you're reading this review, it's likely that a central unit isn't a possibility for you like it wasn't for me. If you can put in a window unit, that is your next best bet but if that is not practical, you've got to go portable. You could get a nice fan or an air cooler but that's like taking the bus instead of driving. It's really not the same.

I have two portable air conditioners and both are made by Soleus. This is one of them and the other one is a 14,000 BTU unit. This one cools a 166 sq ft room that only needs to be cooled ten to fifteen degrees and it's more than powerful enough for that. It can bring the temperature down in fifteen minutes or so.

Portable air conditioners, until fans, need to have an unsightly and awkward tube connected to the window. These tubes are inevitable flimsy and don't fit well. They seem unacceptable unless the only alternate solution is to suffer in the heat and then suddenly they don't seem bad.

Soleus is perhaps the best portable air conditioner manufacturer. I haven't ever had a non-Soleus unit but I've heard horror stories about others. I've heard bad things about these too but I haven't had anything bad happen.

This is probably the smallest and cheapest good unit on the market so if 8000 BTU is enough for you, this is an excellent bet.

. . . if you're mindful of one limitation: it condenses lots of moisture into a limited capacity container, and will need to be emptied or drained. It's built low to the ground, so I put it up on a little platform and attached the short included plastic hose to the drain port and put a container under it to catch the "drip" (which when it is very hot and humid is really a "stream"!). Recognizing that limitation (discussed in previous reviews), I've avoided any problems and have been quite pleased with the product. It cools well and in my limited basement space where it is used, it does fine.

This works well for the particular conditions in which we're using it. We're happy with it. We live in northern California, where hot weather is usually also dry, and evenings are cooler. We put this in a bedroom that gets very hot during the day and doesn't cool down quickly enough at night. Instead of trying to fit the "window kit" into our old-fashioned window, we just leave the window slightly open with the end of the vent hose sticking out while the unit is running. We run it at bedtime and it cools the room down nicely. I gave it only four stars instead of five because of a couple of design flaws: (1) Though I don't expect that we'll have to deal with emptying the condensation tank much, if at all, it's true that the opening is awfully close to the floor, and I can see that in a more humid environment, where it would need emptying more often, it would be pretty awkward. I don't see why the designers couldn't have put the hole a little higher up so that you could actually get a pan or bowl under it. (2) The instructions said to keep the vent hose as straight as possible, but they put the vent hole at the bottom of the unit too. Most people don't have their windows at floor level, and putting this thing on a table or something would also be awkward, since it's so big and heavy (90 pounds, I think). That said, it works just fine for us sitting on the floor with a 90-degree bend in the hose, so I guess that's not such a big deal.

UPDATE: We've had it for almost a year now and are still satisfied with it. It gets the room nice and cool very quickly, and we have never yet had to empty the condensation tank. So that's not a big problem in a dry climate.

We live in a midcentury apartment building mid 20th century, that is. The building's central air unit has reliably failed during each heat wave we've lived through since moving in. This year, I'd had enough. We ordered the Soleus based on a couple of days of Internet research, and we bought from Amazon for ease of returns if that became necessary. The unit arrived short one panel for the screen-door vent adaptor. We emailed the manufacturerer and they promptly sent not one but two additional panels.

Then we had a few weeks when the building's main A/C was working. But sure enough, another heat wave and the central unit failed. This morning it was 78 degrees in the coolest room of our apartment. We rolled out the Soleus, assembled the vent panel and duct, and turned it on. Fifteen minutes later the room was 75 degrees.

This A/C unit is a bit noisy, but not really worse than the central A/C's fan unit in our apartment. We have the Soleus hooked up in the living room and venting out that patio door. A fan will push the cool air back to us in the bedroom.

78 degrees probably doesn't sound too bad, but when you are 46 and hormonally imbalanced, it's too hot for comfortable sleep. I consider the Soleus a good investment and would add that I was very happy with the fast and courteous handling of our missing-parts request to the manufacturer.

I have a little AV cabinet that held in all the heat from my PS3, xBox 360 and reciever. it caused the reciever to die and was a very costly repair. These fans make all the difference. They are very quite, you can hardly hear them running from 10 feet away, and the overall noise is very low, it does not bother you when they are on or take away fromt the vewing or gaming experience. They are thermistatically controlled to turn on and off at 80 degrees which makes sure they are only running when they are needed.

I was looking for a cabinet exhaust fan kit for my cabinet which includes Dish HD DVR and external USB Hard Drive in one shelf, PS3 with another external USB Hard Drive in another shelf of the cabinet with other components like audio receiver, dvd multi changer, dvd recorder in other shelfs of same cabinet.

Many times dish receiver switches itself off due to overheat in the cabinet. Similar problem with PS3.

I bought this CabCool1203 kit and installed in first shelf contaning dish hd receiver and usb hard drive. Although first I thought the assembly will be complex but it was so easy after watching the video on YouTube (and even with instruction that comes with kit). This product works perfectly. Fans comes on automatically as son as temperatures goes above 86F and switches off at 81F. Recommend it to everyone who has hard drive based electronics in the closed cabinets.

I am going to buy one more of these kits now for my PS3 shelf also.

I have had chocolate fountains before and I thought that this one would be great, two in one!

I just got it and the first thing that I noticed was how loud it is! I brought it to work for a fun staff day and turned it on and it could be heard throughout the building. I cannot imagine what it would sound like at a party or a wedding reception.

Seems to work well so far but the noise is annoying. I do wish it was a bit warmer too. It heats up in one section and the chocolate is not circulating as well as I would like. The plastic "dippers" are about the size of toothpicks, a little hard to dip without getting it all over.

I was so excited to try a chocolate fountain for a party I was throwing. How cool would that be? I was wrong. I followed the instructions to a tee on melting the chocolate/oil mix before putting it into the fountain. I still could not get the fountain to flow. Numerous oil additions later and the fountain trickled. Not only did it trickle, but the chocolate now had a bad oil after taste.

Lastly, the skewers that are provided in the package are like toothpicks. I bought kabob skewers from the grocery store to use instead. It is the only way to not wear chocolate fountain.

I have returned this item and would encourage you to save your money and not buy this product.

This was a good idea for a party, but I was not impressed at all by the quality of the product. We tried it out a few days before the party to make sure that it worked. It worked, but the motor was so loud. We added more chocolate to see if the sound was dependent on how full the basin was, but that didn't fix the issue. Also, when we put both white and dark chocolate in their separate basins, the white chocolate started turning tan -we found out that the divider separating the two basins was not completely welded/sealed down that the two different chocolates were mixing. One good note about this our guests still enjoyed the chocolate fountain (I think becasue of its novelty).
