This stove burns cleanly with no propane smell residue. Relatively easy to assemble. I had to get some aftermarket screws to mount the fake logs correctly, but a minor issue for a stove that functions so well when assembled.

All we use until it gets really cold then it supplements the furnace. Seems to have cut the bills too. Looks good and is good for toasting your buns!

Excellent for our home in San Antonio, Texas and cabin at the ranch. In Valverde County, Texas, many ranches burned down, ours too. Need to buy another propane heater for another cabin built at the ranch. This style is hard to find. Have a natural gas heater, same style, at home for years and enjoy it in our den also. The hidden controls are great for the grandchildren, they can't find them. The design is so unique so that we don't have to put it away during the summer season. Kudos to the designer.

Pros: Unit works well to cool down the air and the noise is tolerable.

Update I was impressed with customer service: minimal wait on the phone, courteous service and prompt replacement of the broken parts (read "Cons" below).

Cons: unit is made entirely of plastic so it breaks easily. To illustrate this point: while assembling, a plastic clip that holds the hoses to the window vent unit broke off. After 4 uses, my wife noticed that a clip that held one of the hoses to the unit itself had also broken off. Bottom line: it is flimsy.

A second drawback is that the window vent section does not adjust to the size of the window. (A piece that we thought would be used to adjust to window size is actually a piece used for a patio door.)

A third drawback is that the hoses and window vent section are rather unwieldy to handle. Frequently, while trying to place the vents on the window while coupled to the hoses, the hoses come off easily off the unit so it is difficult to adjust everything correctly. And yes, the hoses have to be coupled because it is seemingly impossible to try to put them on after placing the vent section on the window.

I rarely write extensive product reviews, but I made an exception because this product is in an area of my specialization.

Portable a/c in general

Do not buy a portable a/c unless you really need its roll about feature. You can purchase efficient (EER above 10), small and quiet window units at half the cost of portable units. That being said, you still might opt for a portable unit if you: do not want to leave a window unit installed permanently, do not want to lift a window a/c in and out of a window each season, do not have access to a large enough window for a window a/c, etc.

If you do decide to purchase a portable a/c, only purchase a two hose unit not a one hose. A one hose unit is almost a scam. It uses room air to cool the unit and then expels the air outside through the one hose. You have just paid to cool that room air, and the one hose unit is equivalent to placing a fan in the window blowing out. Hot outside air will be drawn into the room to replace the air being used to cool the unit. As a result, the unit will provide reduced cooling, and it will run inefficiently. A two hose unit, like this one, uses the second hose to draw in outside air to cool the unit instead of using room air. (This is exactly how window a/c's and central a/c's operate.) Consequently, the two hose unit can cool efficiently and at its full Btu/hr rating.

This particular portable a/c

This unit has the all-important two hoses. It is relatively efficient, not too noisy and will cool a nice size room (200 250 sq ft). For a portable a/c, this unit is as good a choice as I found available, but it has its problems. Here are some with which you must deal.

1. Portable is a relative term. This unit weighs ~ 80 lbs; it is only portable on one floor.

2. The unit is rather large and takes considerable room space. The front of the unit will be about two ft into the room which adds to the room space problem.

3. The hoses are large (5 in diameter) and, to my eye, rather unattractive.

4. The manufacturer recommends running the unit using only one hose at outside temperature above 95 F. So, if it gets rather warm outside, it will get warm inside too.

5. The worst feature of the unit is the poorly designed window installation kit. It does not expand to fit the window width. You will need a saw to make it fit, and then it will not fit another size window if you want to move it. The kit will usually need to be adapted further to fit a window. In my case, there is a window sill, and the kit is not high enough for it. I used some wood pieces, wood stain, my saw again, and weather stripping for the installation. In addition, the hose connectors to the unit did not fit. I used a sharp utility knife to increase the opening size of the connector tabs.

The bottom line: with all of its problems, if you need the feature of a portable a/c, this unit is as good as I found in this small size (9000 Btu/hr).

Honest reviews on Sunpentown WA-9040DE 9000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Dual

It is hard for me to decide whether to give this review one star or two. Since this is my second unit. I initially received the first one with a crack by the led display so I had to request a return from Amazon. Once I got the return processed, it took over 2 weeks to get a replacement. Once I got the unit, I took it out of the box and did not like what I see. The unit looks old right out of the box. I can clearly see wear and tear by observing the the dust and cowebs on the inside of the window hoses. The unit works but it does not behave like one that I bought new from Amazon. I noticed it is moderately louder and occasionally makes buzzing sound when it is set to 73 degrees. I am not sure if the shipping department sent out the wrong order or thinks that I don't mind a refurbished or returned unit. As I remembered, I paid for a new one and not someone else return. When I first received this, I was thinking about returning the replacement unit but the heat in the house took anyway any motivation to do so. One advice I can give is...if you received a broken unit, I would not advise requesting for a replacement unit. I would request for a refund and reorder again. Learn from my mistake!I would never request for a replacement unit again from Amazon.

Pros:

Worked out of the box

Very quiet

Inexpensive

Outside air intake (sort of)

Broken window adapter replaced under warranty at no cost and little effort

Cons: This item is poorly designed. The manual states that the outside air intake must be detached when the outside temperature exceeds 95 degrees F. to prevent the compressor from overheating (this isn't easily done). Also, the unit mixes room air with the air sucked in from outside. Naturally, this largely defeats the advantage of a dual hose system. Also, the hoses are mounted right behind the cooling coils, which probably disrupts air flow through them. Finally, the parts themselves seem sort of flimsy (particularly the tabs that lock the air hoses to AC).

Other Thoughts: I'm a little disappointed that the thermostat only goes down to 64 degrees. It's worth being aware that the fan seems to run constantly even when the compressor isn't on, and there seems to be a noticeably loud water pump (a guess) that frequently cycles on and off when the humidity is high. Also, this unit comes with casters. You could unscrew them, but there are bolts sticking out past the bottom of the unit.

For the price, I'm satisfied with the air conditioner, but you can probably find better at a higher price point.

It's a beast in a good way. I write this review from having replaced a 240v 2000 watt heater with this. It's like night and day. This just blasts out the heat. I can stand 5' away and feel the heat washing over me. I'm sort of giddy. It heats up my bedroom in a 3 minutes. I've read some negative reviews of the Cadet thermostat but can't say I agree with them. The unit cycles on and off in stretches. That is it's not constantly cycling. A cynical person would state that this unit is just two single 2000 watt heaters, but it's wired inside as one unit and the can is built specifically for it. The only negative I have is I wish the lead wire were 3-4 inches longer. Also the grill seems flimsy when you're handing it, but it really firms up when is fastened in place. It's only October in MN. I'll add a comment in January.

I have this heater in my 20'x22' garage and have it controlled by a Honeywell 240V thermostat made for baseboard heaters. The fans put out enough air, but without being too noisy. I strongly recommend an auxiliary thermostat, but the factory one works if needed. It works great and gets my garage to room temperature in no time flat. I've had it for almost 4 years now with no issues. I simply remove the grille and vacuum out any dust or debris before the start of each heating season.

I ordered the Honeywell ZWSTAT to work with my Lynx 5100 alarm system. It arrived quickly and was easy to install and configure and the only issue i had was that i have a conventional 2 wire heat system with no common so this would not work unless i was able to supply it with the proper voltage. I did some research and found that if you order the Class II Transformer 24 Volt AC, 40 VA, UL/CSA Approved : "MGT-2440" you can run the leads to your C and RC and pull the jumper and your heat will go to feeds R and W.

this worked beautifully.... Do not buy the 2gig stat because it doesn't work with the Honeywell zwave at all.... junk!!! also it consumes the batteries so you need supplied power also...

This dehydrator is top notch for the money. I read the reviews, making note of people wanting timers, time tables in the instruction manual being incorrect and one that states they didn't like the hole in the middle, huh? That's where the fan blows hot air downward. As far as a timer and the manual being off on time tables, let me point out you don't need a timer and you don't want to rely on one. This dehydrator doesn't take days to finish, so if you have to leave the house or go to bed..unplug it. Use it when you can check on the progress. It's not a Crock Pot. As far as the time tables being off, take into consideration that people cut their foods into different thickness and a quarter inch differs from eye to eye. Humidity levels are different place to place and so many different factors are in play. So the time tables are only a guide and not the law. That's why you DON'T want to use a timer. This product can also be used WITHOUT electricity. Take the top motor off, cover the top of the trays with clear or black plastic and set in the sun. It's a great product and a good buy,

I bought this product because I am getting into raw foods. It works beautifully to dry fruits and vegetables. I have done apples, pears, mango, bananas, strawberries and pineapple. The dried watermelon and cantaloupe are the best, as they taste like candy! It also does a nice job on flax crackers. I would suggest rotating the trays mid-way, since the top and bottom trays seem to dry more quickly.

This dehydrator works just the way it should quietly and efficiently. The jerky came out perfect and took slightly less time than was expected (about 6 hours). Given the relatively low cost and ease of use, this product is worth it. If you are going to do more than 3 pounds of meat you might want to buy additional trays. Cleanup was also quite easy. There are other products that cost more, but I doubt that they do the job any better.

Honest reviews on Nesco American Harvest FD-61 Snackmaster Encore Dehydrator

I read the reviews on all sorts of dehydrators before purchasing one and everyone agreed: BUY THE NESCO. I like my nesco a lot, we use it all the time for beef jerky. We tried doing pineapple in it, but it seemed to be a waste as the pineapple tasted better fresh than dried.

The jerky maker gun works ok, the spices are a little 'ick' that came with it. We used the jerky gun once, and then we stuck with london broils or flank steaks as our meat of choice for jerky.

Most people say my beef jerky is the best they've ever tasted. I slice london broils (bought on sale) against the grain("on the bias")very thinly. Use a very sharp filet or chefs knife. I marinate the strips in a bowl in the frig for 12-24 hours in 1cup soy sauce, 1cup teriyaki, 2 tbs brown sugar 1tbs black pepper.

My machine holds about 3 lbs of marinated jerky, and it takes around 4-5 hours to dry. I let the jerky rest/cool on a plate, then i store in a ziplock baggie.

GREAT VALUE makes INCREDIBLE jerky. Only wish this product had a timer or an on off switch.

Let me just start off by saying that i gave it 4 stars because there is a disadvantage to having a whole in the center. But i bought this because the dehydrator i really wanted was $200 and i wanted to make sure i would enjoy the foods i could make with it. I would actually want to give this a 4 1/2 stars.

I got this because I am switching over to a more raw diet. I got a few cookbooks that have lots of mouth watering recipes but they required a food dehydrator. I love it. This one is soft, just a low hum. I have kept it on for days at a time making lots of goodies.

One thing i noticed when i put a thermometer in the machine is that is is 10 degrees off and so i keep it at 105 to give me the perfect 115 for "cooking" raw foods. So i suggest you do the same if you get this machine. I put it in the bottom vent.

This machine is so easy to use i am having tons of fun. If you are buying your first dehydrator this is the one to get. If you are getting it for raw foods buy extra fruit roll up sheets. It comes with one but i use them a lot!

A few weeks after ordering, we finally go the fireplace. After setting it up, the fireplace looks nice, however there is one big discrepancy. The dimensions on this website is off. I may not have bought the fireplace knowing this. The actual dimensions is approximately 39 3/4"x 39 3/4" x 11". The Honeywell RPLS740B has some key features I was looking for:

1. Compatible with compact fluorescent bulbs (this timer even works with electric motors).

2. Has the option of turning on or off at either a certain time or at dawn or dusk. It keeps track of the time of year so that it knows when dawn and dusk are.

3. Adjusts for daylight saving time automatically (although it may eventually be a few days off if they change the dates for daylight saving time again).

4. Keeps its programming and the correct time and date during power outages.

5. Has no batteries to wear out (more about this below).

These features let me set it up once and then leave it alone. Of course, it's easy to override it if needed. Just press the main button to turn the lights on or off. The timer will stay programmed and resume automatic operation when it is time to turn on or off automatically again.

Some of the literature on this product says that it has a backup battery to keep the programming set up and the clock running during power outages. At first, I was concerned that the timer might need to be replaced when the backup battery wears out. Even a rechargeable battery only lasts so long. I carefully opened the unit to see if the battery is user-replaceable. I was pleasantly surprised to see that instead of a battery, it has a 0.22-Farad super-capacitor. A super-capacitor substitutes for a battery, but for all practical purposes, doesn't wear out. I wish more electronic devices would use these.

As with any product that has a mountain of features, it takes a little time to read the instructions and set up the timer. However, the menu system is pretty logical, and was easy to catch onto once I had programmed a few settings. I don't even need the instructions now.

Since the timer has been installed for only a week, I can't really be sure about reliability yet. It appears to be well built, inside and out. So far, it works flawlessly and the time is staying accurate.

It is a little expensive, but it's the lowest-priced timer I could find that has the features I want and has good reviews about working reliably. Also, with the super-capacitor instead of a battery, there's no need to worry about battery replacement.

The timer came via Amazon Super-saver Shipping, and arrived ahead of schedule in just a few days.

This switch is the Honeywell-labeled replacement for the Aube TI071/U. (Aube, a Canadian corporation, was purchased by Honeywell.) I own the Aube-by-Honeywell-labelled switch.

This is an easy install for a homeowner who is comfortable enough with electrical work to know why the wiring comes in different colors, and can identify which side of a circuit is "line" and which side is "load." Also, you must have a neutral (white) wire in the box where you are installing this, or the switch won't work.

The switch benefits from Aube's years of experience in designing programmable thermostats that are easy to use. The initial setup involves determining your local latitude and longitude, which can be determined from Aube's web site or from using Google Maps. (You only need the degrees [such as 45° N or 75°W], not the minutes or seconds, nor any decimals following the degrees.) The date, time, and location are entered, and your preferences regarding when you want to see the backlight, as well as whether your location is affected by daylight savings time. Once this information is entered, you can program up to eight sets of ON and OFF times.

The twist is in the "Solar Time Table" function. Entering latitude and longitude means that the switch calculates sunrise and sunset times for each day of the year, and those times are fairly accurate for your location. Therefore, you can set fixed on and off times for a program, or set ON and/or OFF to local sunset or sunrise. You can also adjust a time to be offset from sunset or sunrise, in ten-minute increments up to an hour either way. For my holiday lights, I want them to come on in the evening a half hour before sunset because our sunset comes earlier due to a ridge a mile west of our home. This switch allows that.

It is also possible to have the switch turn off the lights a stated number of times at random intervals for a set period (got all that?). This is touted as good for vacation periods, though I have not tried it.

In my experience, so-called "photo eyes" sometimes cause lights to come on during the day, or at times when they are not wanted. This switch will not let that happen.

It is remarkable that Aube/Honeywell built such a degree of flexibility into a small package like this. I think this product is very well thought out, and I recommend it.

Best Deals on Honeywell Econoswitch RPLS740B 7-Day Solar Time Table Programmable

I ordered this when Amazon offered it for a special discounted price. I believe that the normal price of $45 is too high for the functionality that this offers. Like a lot of people, I would like an easy way to have my outdoor lights come on and off automatically. Normally the problem with timers is that the lights get turned on too early or too late at different times of year due to longer and shorter days, daylight savings time, etc.

This switch does solve that problem, allowing the user to have the lights come on and shut off at times related to sunset and sunrise. I programmed them to come on at 10 minutes after sundown and shut off at 11:30PM. The nice thing is I no longer have to remember to turn the lights on or off. You can also turn them on and off manually, which is good. There is a chart included with latitudes and longitudes of different US and Canadian cities, you can also quickly look your specific coordinates up on the internet.

The screen on the unit is actually tastefully done, and does not look out of place in the wall box next to another decora switch.

So why four stars instead of five? I have just a few nits with this product worth mentioning.

The size of the switch is quite large, and as you will have to retrieve the neutral wires in your outlet box (typically it's a bundle of white wires tied together with a wire nut) it is quite a tight fit. It does not help that the wire leads from the box are a little on the short side.

Second issue is that when the box is "on" and providing lighting functions there is an extremely bright blue LED in the lower right corner that is lit. This light is so bright that it's a bit obnoxious. The screen itself can be dimmed up or down with three settings but the blue LED is always lit when the lights are on.

Third issue is that the mounting screws that come with the box are garbage. I had to uninstall the box once and repack the wiring and the screws were already stripped with just the use of a high quality flat bladed screwdriver. Forget about using a power screwdriver. I ended up pulling the screws from a $2 outlet switch, they were much better. Considering the premium price it would not kill them to provide better install hardware.

All in all though this is a great product. It even has a capacitor backup to preserve the programming during power outages. Very nice.

Honest reviews on Honeywell Econoswitch RPLS740B 7-Day Solar Time Table Programmable

Installation was easy (make sure you have a neutral [white] wire in the switch box). Programming was simple; once you know to push-and-hold the main button for three seconds to enter programming mode, you almost don't need the manual at all -it's that easy and intuitive.

It lost a star because the screws it ships with were made out of very soft metal -they stripped easily and if I ever need to remove the switch it will be a pain. But as it is right now, it looks great and works as advertised.

It seems like it should be so easy. Replace a single pole toggle with an electronic switch. Just a few wires to switch from one to the other, right? There are however pitfalls, and you can wind up ordering the wrong switch, without doing some checking beforehand.

Since I hate descriptions that don't help understanding, I'll try to describe the situation in the simple way that I understand it.

Think about 3 different theoretical electrical junction boxes: one that holds a receptacle ("electrical outlet"), one that holds a single toggle switch, and one that holds a light fixture (called the "load"). If you sketch imaginary circuits, you realize that each of these has different connecting wires.

The easiest is the receptacle (imagine a stand alone nonswitched receptacle). It has a black wire, the hot one, (line, source) and a white wire (I hate when they call it the "neutral," I like the "return" because it returns to the service panel ). Let's forget about the green or bare copper "ground" ; it's never part of the circuit, and is just there to return a few stray electrons to the ground.

A standard toggle switch is a little more complex. It's in series with a light fixture (for example). That means that the black "source or line" is attached. However the white wire is not attached; the second wire is called the load; it leads from the switch to the "load" (light fixture for example). It's usually black and white striped or some other color. The black is hot, the load is only hot when the switch is turned on.

The 3rd junction box is the "load" (light fixture for example). The 2 wires that connect to the fixture are the "load" of course, and the white one; "the return" as I call it.

So why the complexity replacing the switch? Well, look at it this way; you are replacing the switch with not just a switch, but with a switch and a load( the load is the electronic timer). Therefore, the junction box needs all the wires from a load (lightfixture)as well as those in a switchbox. Therefore, in addition to the black "source" and striped or colored "load", the switchbox needs a white "return" to send those electrons that power the timer back to 3 Mile Island or wherever they came from.

This is the part where the electricians are laughing at me, because they know that 1. The electrons don't go anywhere, they just do a 60 cycle dance, and 2. The white wire doesn't go to Pennsylvania, it just " returns" to the service panel after which it plunges into the ground.

However, while the electricians are laughing, you might ask them why half the switchboxes out there don't have any white wires. If there is one, it's in the back of the switchbox, attached to another white wire with a wirenut (return from the fixture attached to return to the service panel); you have all the connections that you need, and you can go ahead and order this switch.

If not, where is it? Who knows, maybe running to another load or receptacle box. Why? Maybe it saved the contracter 50¢. One thing for sure, you can't use this switch. Don't even think about connecting the "return" to the green or copper "ground"; that's why I hate calling the return the "neutral," it's really part of the circuit and needs to return to the service panel.

So if you're stuck without white "returns" in your switch box, are you screwed? Well not necessarily. There are other electronic timer switches that run off a battery, instead of off the line current. Check the Intermatic ST01 for example. The only downside; you will have to replace the battery some day. It's not rechargeable (remember no white wire).

So what are the important points here?

1. Trip the circuit breaker, and check the back of your switch box for white wires before you order

2. Don't mistake a green or copper (ground) for a white (neutral or return) and don't connect them.

3. If you don't have white wires in the switchbox, order a switchtimer with a battery.
