Added an electric heater to a new walk in closet. This worked fine when we installed, but not even one year later, the thermostat is broken (in very light use). The electrician bypassed the thermostat to see if it or heater was at issue; heater works fine whenever you flip the circuit breaker. Thermostat: nada.

This mechanical based thermostat has a huge temperature swing to it. It wired in-line wity my electric heater (high voltage 240v, 2 powered lines in and out) easily. When I think it should turn it, I have to physically tap the dial and the heater turns on. When I think it should be done, I have to physically tap it again to turn off. Temp swings from below 68F to above 72F without me intervening with a tap. Looking for another thermostat now that is digital based.

Best White-Rodgers 1F78-151 Digital 5/2 Day Programmable Thermostat Deals

Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

I own two of these thermostats. One was a new installation for a new furnace, and the other was a recent replacement for another programmable brand.

I find this product to be a great value considering its functionality. It is programmable separately for heating and cooling systems, which is always a nice option (some brands/models are "one season at a time" so you have to constantly reprogram every season).

The 1F78 can be programmed for four programs for each weekday, as well as for programs for weekends. This is your basic 5/2 programming.

This model DOES NOT let you program for individual days, so if that is an option you want, skip the 1F78. For example, you can program for Mon-Fri, and Sat/Sun, but not Monday independently. I've had that feature on other thermostats and it is nice if you like to maybe let the heat stay on later on a Saturday night compared to Sunday, for example. However, for the price that was a small sacrafice to me, given the other features and ease of use.

I do like the EMR (Energy Management Recovery) feature on this thermostat. It "calculates", based on current temperature and desired temp/time when it should come on. For example, it you want it to be 70 degrees at 7 AM, you don't need to guess how early to start the thermostat in order to call for heat and reach 70 by 7 AM. You just set it for 7 AM, and what it does is come on about 5 minutes earlier for each heating degree it is below your set temperature. For cooling, EMR will turn on you A/C 15 minutes early for each degree above your set point.

You can disable the EMR feature if you prefer.

What's in the box:

The 1F78 thermostat

Instruction manual

Two mounting screws

Two screw anchors

Two AAA batteries (mine were Duracell, obviously this could change depending on manufacturer shipping).

Set up is simple. TURN OFF ELECTRICTY to your HVAC, which should cut power to your old thermostat (except for any batteries in it). Remove your old thermostat, taking note of the wiring colors in use. Tape/tie off your wiring cable so it does not fall into the wall!! Run the wires through the back of the 1F78 and connect to the appropriate terminals.

Display is basic LCD gray on gray, backlit in amber when you press a key. The display is easy to read.

Controls are simple to understand, and you are used to programmable thermostats, timers, etc. you may not even need the manual to program this product. The buttons are basic Time, Program, Run, Hold, and Fan (On/Auto) and System (Cool/Off/Heat).

I have one complaint about this product, and its not a huge deal and you should only need to deal with it once the wiring terminals. The terminals themselves are screw-down, which is nice since you don't have to wrap the wire on a terminal. But there is very little room in between the terminals, so it can be a pain to work the wires into each terminal to tighten them down.

Overall, this is a reliable thermostat. I've had no issues with my first, which is about four years old, and the newly installed one took about 20 minutes to install. I would purchase this product again.

I just hate when a thermostat is so Hi-tech that its all complicated... for me this works just fine, use the up or down button to set the temperature you desire and then press the "hold" button and you're done.

Also If you want you can program and set your thermostat to change the temperature during a certain time and day of the week.

I replaced two earlier versions of this thermostat in my house. The new one is smaller, so I had to do a little painting, but no big deal. Also, it was a little difficult to feed the wires in and get them cinched down due to the tight space. But otherwise I love it. It is EXTREMELY easy to use (makes my wife happy!) and a good price. Recommended.

Honest reviews on White-Rodgers 1F78-151 Digital 5/2 Day Programmable Thermostat

These were installed by the HVAC installer we have 4 installed in the building for various heaters and furnaces. They are programmed to lower temps while no one is working, and raising it before work starts.

They all do their job, except for one that occasionally resets to default factory settings for no apparent reason even after changing the batteries several times.

The problem is when they go from cool down to heat, they do not register the actual temperature on a timely basis. (i.e. Going from 52 to 68deg. it keeps heating and actual temp measured is 76-78 deg and still the thermostat says is much lower and calling for heat) SEVERAL minutes later, it will read the actual temperature.

This seems to be an issue with White Rogers as one was installed in a rental a similar but non programmable model (this brand seem to be favored by installers maybe the cheapest?). The residents had complained of this issue when manually raising and lowering the settings, or when the door was opened and cold came in. I swapped it out with a Honeywell that registers actual temperature with quick response!

Our old ones did not work any more. Because we do not know much about these kind of controller, so we got this one which is the same model as our old ones. It is ok, but the new interior design makes it hard to install than before. I do not understand why the screws are so tight that I cannot even loose it to put connecting wire in!

Cons:

Took a while to figure out how to assemble the base/pedestal part. But once that's done evrything's fine.

Robert@ Three Boys Farms gives a good overview on the Coolbot. I use the coolbot in my coolroom to keep grapes around 39 degrees F. before I crush. What I have to offer in terms of a review is a demystification of the product for any potential user that would like to know exactly how it works. To begin, it doesn't 'turbo-charge' your air-conditioner. This is largely hyperbole. There is definitely no magic involved.

The Coolbot consists of three probes, a thermometer, a temperature probe, and a heater probe all leading back into a single well sealed package. Here is how it works. After removing the grill from the AC unit you will locate the thermostatic sensor which is affixed to the cooling fins of the AC unit. This temperature sensor is naturally responsible for cycling the AC unit on and off. You will now take the AC's temperature probe and place it in contact with (secure beside) the Coolbot heater probe. The second probe on the Coolbot is a temperature sensor which is placed in the fins of the AC unit approximately where you removed the AC temp. probe.

The heater probe on the Coolbot is in direct contact with the AC's thermostat. The Coolbot heater probe simply heats up the AC's thermostat thereby causing the AC unit to sense a warmer temperature than what actually exists in the cool room. The second probe of the coolbot monitors the temperature of the AC fins so that the Unit doesn't ice up. Ron has taken an extremely simple concept, one that isn't wholly original and created an excellent, dependable, durable and vastly overpriced product that will do exactly what it warrants. I am very pleased with its performance.

Like Most intelligent farmers necessity and budget are always in play. The need for a commercially available refrigeration unit is part of all farms cool down and storage requirements, yet the availability of affordable

equipment to small farms does not exist, unless it is taken back to the purest form of design and function.

What Ron has done here is recognized that the limits imposed by residential A/C unit manufactures, specifically the

restriction of low temperatures by thermostatic control, can be manipulated. In designing the Cool-Bot he did several things;

1. energy conservation, large commercial units are power hogs, typically three phase 400-600 amps, and they are an antiquated, inefficient method of cooling, specifically taking copious volumes of cold air and moving it into a space that is usually poorly designed and has huge air leaks, the net result is waste, both in terms of energy, and product stored as air mass on leafy greens desiccates and wilts foliage, so unless your stored product is potatoes, you want coiling without excessive moisture robbing air mass. Cool-Bot delivers through your Energy Star unit, cold air without damaging the crop, and saves big money in energy costs, and efficiency.

2. Back up, when your space requires multiple units to achieve the desired level of cooling needed, you simply run more window units, again the often overlooked benefit here is the built in back up. If your commercial unit goes down, your product temps go up and spoil. The repair cost is high, and you still have one unit. With multiple Cool-Bots, you have an emergency back up in place, if a unit went down, the others can maintain temps for that period while you replaced that A/C unit, and since it has not been modified whatsoever, it is under a factory warranty. Now you have continued cooling during the repair or change out, something not offered by commercial refrigeration, with them your down, and your out.

3. Seasonal change. During cooler periods of the year with a multiple unit cooler you have the option of shutting down several of the A/C units for additional energy savings, with the big units, its on or off. So it is time to ask yourself, who brings the best things to life? not just those guys, but us farmers, we feed you, and increase your health with safe local foods, and design and build products that are frugal, and efficient. The highest praise a farmer or designer can receive is from his peers, and I highly recommend Cool-Bot to anyone, for a multitude of purposes. It is the only intelligent choice for efficient energy conscious cooling, and the only choice for 3 Boys Farm, a 365, 24/7 large grower of hydroponic and organic produce. Way to go Ron!

This is such a great little heater!

It really pushes out lots of heat for such a little thing, likely because it's ceramic.

It is tip-proof and cold-bodied -exactly what I need in a space heater.

My bedroom is 15' x 11' and it heats the whole thing in no time flat, never getting hot on the bottom or sides.

I plain love it!

Update one year later. Heater is still "working," but my complaint about the thermostat is even stronger. The "thermostat" has evolved into an on-off switch. The heater is either always running, or not running at all. It is not possible to find the middle of the deadband, becasue it does not have one. So my room swings between too warm and too cold, as I have to control the heater manually. Fan is still what I would call too noisy.

I have reduced my rating from three to two stars. I cannot recommend that anyone buy this this heater.

Original review ---

My new CZ441 heater was delivered about a week ago. It has been uncommonly cold in the Northeast recently, so I wsa glad to see it and put it to use.

Set up was simple. Out of the box, 5 minutes to read the instructions, and plug it in. I live in an old house (1890) so I was a bit worried about blowing fuses. No problem though. The low setting uses about 1100 watts (10 amps).

The unit was purchased for use in my study, a small room about 10' x 12' in size. The two windows provide nice light, but they leak air, and the room is always cold in the winter (which is about 6 months long here). An adjacent room is the laundry, with an outside door, and it is always cool in there. So a small forced draft electric heater was just what I needed.

It is quite small and light, a bit larger than a loaf of bread. It sits unobtrusively on the floor, pointed slightly upward. The tip over protection switch works very well. The cord is about 6' long. None of the exterior surfaces or the handle get warm, let alone hot, even after hours of continuous use. My dog likes to lay right in front of it, a couple of feet away.

I have found that it is most effective when it is placed about 5' away from where I'm sitting, pointed directly at me. The fan is a bit noisier than I would like, but it is "white" noise, so I don't notice it unless someone in another part of the house is trying to talk to me. Voices are somewhat difficult to hear over the noise. Without the fan running, hearing would be no problem.

We have a dog that sheds hair (don't they all?), so the idea of a cleanable filter was a plus. However, the "filter" is not very durable, and it will die or be lost long before the heater is used up. When it fails I will use the heater without a filter. Pity.

The description of the unit says it has a "thermostat." This is the reason why I give it 3 stars rather than more. The thermostat is such poor quality that it severely limits the usefulness of the heater. Simply put, the deadband is far too narrow to control the room temperature. The slightest turn on the knob goes from always off to always on.

The heater has two power settings, low and high. On the high setting the heater will run for perhaps 30 seconds, then shut off for a long time. On the low setting the heater either runs continuously, or not at all.

I consider the too sensitive thermostat to be a major flaw. The heater is essentially unusable on the high power setting. So I cannot recommend that you buy one of these units. I'm not so dissatified that I will return it, but I am diappointed in the poor quality.

Honest reviews on Comfort Zone® Personal Ceramic Heater/Fan CZ441

Maybe this item got bounced around one too many times in shipping because it was always loud. The previous model I had (same look and abilities but white) was not particularly loud, lasted over four years, and was used a lot more than this model was. This one barely lasted through one cold season in the southern US and was only used about 1 or 2 hours a day. It stopped working a week after we got it out for the next winter so I couldn't return it. Because I was very pleased with the first one of these I got and because I don't know what type of treatment this one went through during shipping I can't give it a totally bad review. It is a real powerhouse for a tiny heater and I really like that about it.

T-fal 2.2-Pound(3 Ltr) Family Pro-Fryer Stainless Steel Immersion Fryer
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I like it. Sturdy, unlike my older, cheaper deep fryer, which had an unstable feel to it. Timer is helpful--prevents leaving it on accidentally. Basket is larger than most, so items like FF can be spread out and fry quicker. Only downside is that this model is a little bulky (its squarer than most), especially if you live in a place with limited storage. And there's no real place in/on the unit to store the detachable cord. But this one looks like it will last a long time, and I'm glad I bought it..

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Below is my original review of this product. Since I wrote this the original fryer died (it had about two years of VERY frequent and hard use). We immediately replaced it with another T-Fal which has been chugging along just as well as the original, altho I think the new one is a little smaller.

I don't do French Fries never have been able to get them just right no matter how I fry or double fry them at home, but homemade potato chips. donuts, Indian samosas and pakoras or all kinds, Fry Bread, chicken fingers, Mexican foods (chili rellenos and taco and tostado shells not to mention tortilla chips) are wonderful and easy in the T-Fal fryer.

The product does get very warm so I recommend setting in on an inverted baking sheet to be sure the counter is protected. I won't lie and say that there is no grease splatter but it's really very neat and the little grease that there is can easily be cleaned up with just a sponge and soapy water no huge mess like frying on the stove.

Because we were so impressed with the T-fal fryer we also bought the T-Fal mini pie baker (which I love) and just bought a T-Fal toaster.

***********

We purchased the T-Fal Family Pro fryer about 4 weeks ago. It may be our downfall we've never eaten much fried food, but this makes it so easy and quick, and much neater than frying on the stove, that we have been having something fried about twice a month.

The first thing I did was a huge batch of chicken fingers actually cooked in 3 batches. Each batch was about 9 fingers (I made them myself, not frozen) and they cooked perfectly. I was finished in under 25 minutes.

I've also done french fries, potato chips, sweet potato chips, three Indian dishes (on two different occasions) including pakoras (several kinds) and samosas. I'm not sure, but it seems like less grease is absorbed by the foods than when frying on the stove. This is based on the amount of oil that needs to be "replaced" before reusing the unit.

Clean up is easy as is cleaning the entire unit. After doing some okra there was a lot of corn meal in the bottom of the unit, so we strained the grease, washed everything well and since it was only the 3rd use of the grease returned it to the fryer to be used a few more times.

I would recommend this product to anyone considering a deep fryer, especially if they did large quantities of anyting. There are only two of us, but I frequently do lots of somethng or another (egg rolls and won tons especially, for the freezer)so didn't even consider a small capacity fryer.

The unit does get the counter under it very hot so I have been setting it on an overturned baking sheet. I also wish that the cord was just a tiny bit longer, so I would be able to place the unit farther from the edge of the center island counter where the cord must go over the edge to reach the plug but can understand the safety concern of a short cord.

I bought this deep fryer from Target (needed it immediately, instead of waiting for it to be shipped) and I must say it works GREAT! Very easy setup. After about 15 minutes of unboxing, and cleaning it, I was off to frying chicken wings. The timer setting was perfect. It cooked very even. Was able to fry 20 wings in one batch was nice. It is a great deep fryer for the price. I highly recommend it.

Honest reviews on T-fal 2.2-Pound(3 Ltr) Family Pro-Fryer Stainless Steel Immersion

I almost returned this as soon as I took it out of the box. The temp digits are so small (like an 8 font) I could barely see them. I gave it a chance and I kept it because it did a nice job cooking the food and it is so easy to clean. After a few uses all the printing on the control panel (including the temp digits) started to melt off. I was planning on returning it the next day, and then I had no choice because while I was prepping my food and letting it heat up it just stopped working. The lights were off and it was cold. I tried unplugging it for a while but nothing worked, it was just dead.

We bought this fryer from Amazon in February (7 months ago,) and we have already experienced two breakdowns. First the lighted on/off switch literally disintegrated. The switch is lighted and the rocker is a thin red translucent plastic. Within a couple of months the switch rocker came flying off when I switched the unit on and the spring and guts came out of the switch unit. Upon examination I found that the rocker cover pivoted on two pencil lead sized pivots that easily failed with just a few uses. Rather than send the unit back, I went to Radio Shack and found a $3 replacement switch.

Last month the fryer wouldn't turn on. Troubleshooting the unit, I found that the safety mechanism that shuts off the unit when the heating element/control housing is removed from unit had failed. The micro-switch had become inoperative.

We're still using the unit, and always testing it before we prep the foods to go into it. It works great.....when it works. If you like to tinker with gadgets, buy this unit. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for something more reliable. If you don't want the adventure of knowing whether you'll have deep fried foods for dinner on not, buy this fryer!

SEI Narita Media Console with Electric Fireplace Reviews

SEI Narita Media Console with Electric Fireplace, Espresso
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
First off, I would like to point out that I shopped both online and in stores for an electric fireplace for months. When I finally decided on this one, I still thought hard about it for weeks before I actually placed my order. This is the first time that I have ever ordered furniture online and I was very nervous about not seeing the product before making my purchase, but the other reviews had me convinced and the price was unbeatable anywhere else I looked (including Big Lots). So I ordered it, and I have had it three months now.

Shipping:

My new media console and fireplace arrived at my house (in Indiana) only a few days after I placed my order. It arrived in two very large, very heavy packages. One package contained the materials for the console itself and the other, which had "FRAGILE" written in large letters across it was the electric fireplace. There are many different pieces to the cabinet itself, so I recommend doing what I did which was opening the box somewhere with plenty of room, and laying out each piece to ensure that everything had been included (and to ensure that nothing had been damaged). Everything that was supposed to be included was there and intact.

Assembly:

Obviously, the console itself has to be assembled. The assembly wasn't difficult (as I am a 25 year old woman who did it by myself), but it is time consuming, taking about three hours to complete (although I took my time). The hardware didn't seem cheap to me and every major piece is fit with several wood dowels to help guide the pieces together perfectly. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER AND TAKING YOUR TIME!!! The pieces are designed to go together in a very specific order and once they have been locked together, it is almost impossible to take them apart again. This means that if you forget a step, you could be in big trouble. The instructions aren't super descriptive so read a couple of times to make sure you understand what you are doing. There is an optional support piece that is supposed to go in the middle of the shelf to help prevent the top piece from bowing if you have a somewhat heavy tv. I would recommend putting it in during assembly if you have a tv any larger than about 36 inches as I have already seen one review where the person didn't use the support piece, and his did bow under the weight of his tv. Once it was completed, I was however pleasantly surprised by how sturdy the unit was once it was constructed.

Product Review:

I did want to mention that the firebox itself isn't as deep as the cabinet is. This makes for a nice place in the back of the unit to put your power strip for all of your electronics so that you can place the cabinet flush against the wall without leaving an unsightly gap between the unit and the wall. It was a pleasant surprise. As I mentioned before, most of the main pieces of the unit are real stained wood and those that are not are still stained well to match the real wood pieces. Occasionally I go over the entertainment stand with wood polish, which brings out the nice espresso color in the wood. The unit itself is a beautiful, uniform color and is very sturdy considering that it was assembled. I love the cabinet space and width of the unit.

If you want a fireplace that looks like real fire, get a real fireplace. I spent a lot of time looking at these when I was shopping around and contrary to a couple of the reviews, I think the fire looks better than many of the electric fireplaces that I have seen (including several nice hotels that I have stayed at). I'm sure that they do make more realistic electric fireplaces, but you won't find any around this price, I've looked. The fire consists of varying shades of yellow and orange, but to me, the movement of the flames is about as as realistic as any I've seen. The brightness of the logs can be adjusted as well as the brightness/level of the fire, which is nice when you want the fire to seem low or when you are trying to watch a movie on the tv and you don't want the brightness of the fireplace to be distracting. I have a fairly small living room, so I can feel the heat from the heater on the couch when it is at medium setting, but I could see where it probably wouldn't heat a larger room by itself. In my case however, the space heater in the unit adds a nice warmth to the room (sometimes too warm). The remote control allows you to change the brightness of the logs and the fire, and to turn the heater off or on, but the thermostat for the heater must be adjusted on the firebox itself.

After three months of having this product, I must say that I am in love with it. With all of the features, I really feel like I got lots of "bang for the buck". It adds a very welcoming glow and warmth to my living room and I get compliments on it every time I have company. For the price, definitely five stars.

I really like this piece. The unit is very solid and a beautiful finish on the wood. The instructions were very good and was easy to assemble without a hitch. I love the glass doors on cabinet to keep video games, movies and Wii dust free! BTW my cable modem and router fit nicely laying flat on open shelf with DVR

The only con I have is the flame is only amber. I could not really tell it was amber only in the picture. Come on guys...couldn't you have put a little red in there to mix up the colors?! It is obvious it is not a real flame...which is what I want...but the amber only color makes it a little less comfy when lit.

With the Amazon price with free shipping I saved over $150 over Target and Walmart online plus I got Amazon free shipping!

Best Deals on SEI Narita Media Console with Electric Fireplace

The console arrived in two boxes. One (console)weighing in at 98lbs., and the second (fire box) weighing in at 38lbs. The console arrived completely in pieces with all screws and parts necessary to put it together. The instructions I would not rate for a beginner as they are not well displayed. It took six hours to put the console together but everything was there and the wood was not fiber board stuff you commonly find at IKEA. Once put together it is a very solid piece of furniture, but I was concerned when I saw the IKEA type screws to hold certain sections of the wood together. The firebox is all one piece and slides in to the finished assembled console with a wood block and screws to keep it in place. I found this to still keep the firebox loose and added two small wood screws up against the back of the firebox to help keep it more snug. Once it was all setup with my television components I plugged in the fireplace and turned it on. The heat unit works great and will nicely supplement the heat in the winter for this one bedroom apartment in Portland, Oregon. The flame and log functions all work great although I was disappointed that the logs didn't better resemble more red coals burning around the logs with instead being the same colors as the flame (yellow/orange). It was not worth taking the whole thing apart to send it back, but a better close-up picture of the flame and logs would be great for future purchasers. Overall I am pleased with the size and dimensions of this console/fireplace. However, next time I pay this kind of price for something like this I will buy one assembled and working before I make the purchase. I give this product a four star rating because of the wood, glass in the doors, and the solid construction after it was assembled.

Honest reviews on SEI Narita Media Console with Electric Fireplace

We received this yesterday and put it together in a few hours. I expected the quality to be a bit better for the price, but all the same it looks great. We had looked at the Espresso model but opted for this lighter color so glad we did. Some reviewers on the espresso model stated that they were unhappy with the flame because there wasn't enough color variation, but we are very happy with it. We have wanted an electric fireplace for a long time, since we can't have the real thing. This would probably warm up our bedroom if it were in that room with the door closed, but we have this in our living room near a stairway and kitchen so we didn't notice a big difference in the overall warmth of the room. However, we have only had it for one day. Standing in front of it with the heat on high, it definitely puts out good heat though so we'll see after extended use how that goes. Would definitely recommend

If you have seen fireboxes in stores and thought they looked good, dont buy this one. The firebox is no where near what you will see in stores. This is not a good Dimplex type firebox that you might get otherwise. It looks terrible. The logs look bad, doesnt resemble a fire much at all, you dont see flames, just weird glowing light. The dimplex insert is soo much nicer and this is not that. The furniture part is nice, but the firebox is horrible. Also the motor in the firebox makes a loud annoying sound and causes vibrations in the unit. Not Recommended.

If you've ever experienced your central air condensing unit blowing a fuse or tripping a breaker following an instantaneous outage, then this little gem is for you! It saves wear and tear on the system by delaying an attempted restart after a brief power outage.

Item advertised as indoor/outdoor. Came well packaged. Heavy. Seems solid. Attractive. Nice color scheme around outer edge will go with most decor. Prblm: Not really for outdoor use. I wanted to use it outside on a pool fence, fully exposed to the elements. When clock arrived, sticker on unit said not for use in direct sunlight. Isn't that "outdoor" use? Apparently, per seller (not Amazon), indoor/outdoor really means indoor or outdoor under protection (covered porch, maybe fully exposed but in shade all the time). So I can not use it as I had hoped. Listing in Amazon should be more precise. So use caution when considering purchase and intended use. Note that there is a return policy that I could have used, but frankly I did not feel like going through the effort and time.

Given the expense of this item, I had expected so much more. The timing mechanism appears to be no better than clocks that can be purchased for a fraction of the cost. And, incredibly, it doesn't keep time as well as its cut-rate counterparts. I've had this clock for just over a year and am ready to replace it. Despite fresh batteries, it typically runs more than an hour off and the face is already badly faded.

we bought this clock 1 1/2 yrs ago. it's beautiful, but it doesn't keep time. stops. replace battery. stops again. so what do you do with a beautiful clock that doesn't keep time?

Honest reviews on Infinity Instruments The Inca - In/Outdoor Clock with Slate Mosaic

The clock is beautiful and the thermometer works great. However, we gave it to my parent for Christmas and the clock does not work in the cold weather of Colorado. And that is the main part of the face. Not sure what we'll do as it would be expensive to ship back to return the item. It should not be advertised as an outdoor clock in colder regions.

the clock is very attactive, but the timing mechanism is really cheap. I stored the clock this winter face up and when i pulled it out to hang it this spring the hour hand does became loose. There is no access to fix it so i had to throw it away. I would not recommend this product.

I ordered this heater for my parents who were taking a 6 week trip to Europe. My mum LOVED it! None of the hotels she stayed in had a jug to heat water so she used it almost daily. It lasted her the whole trip for heating water for tea in the morning. It heated water super quick and it's tiny and easy to carry and comes with a neat wee drawstring bag to carry it in. She's still using it at work to heat her water for tea in the office. She highly recommends it. Thanks!

I've owned two of these. The first one I dropped and it stopped working. Ok, my fault. The second I heated 4 cups of water on an international trip (220 Volt) and was very careful with it, especially keeping the heating coil immersed while plugged into the electricity. I went to heat a 5th cup of water and guess what?....no longer working. I bought it especially for the international voltage feature. From my experience, I cannot recommend this product.

I did not check if it worked here. I took it on a intl trip, but it did not work at all.

Honest reviews on Water Heater Portable Coffee Immersion Dual Voltage Beverage Heat

I read reviews that said it did not work and I still took my chances and ordered the water heater at ALSAMAUSA and hoped it will work for me but sure enough the water heater was dead on arrival. I used immersion heater before and I know how to follow instructions so that it was definitely DOA. I returned the item but wasted my money for shipping and return postage ($5.70+$5.41). The seller received my water heater few days ago and I'm still waiting for my refund. What a wast of time and money.

UPDATE: I filed A-to-z Guarantee claim to Amazon and they refunded the item price and shipping so that my loss was limited to the cost for the return shipping (postage + certified mail = $5.41).

Pro: Works on either 110 or 220 volts, without manually switching the heater.

Con: (Minor) 110 volt heating affords only 125 watts of heating power, bringing a large cup of cool water to a simmer in twelve to 14 minutes.

Pro: On 220 volts, other conditions the same as above, simmer is reached in about three minutes due to 500 watts heating power.

Pro: Solid construction, plug is not cheap, wire appeared well-insulated, but not unduly stiff.

Con: No cup cliff, although this is not a grievous error...

My unit quit working mid-tea cup heating, and I was dissatisfied because I thought I had only had it about six months. Amazon showed me that I received it about 25 months ago. Use was generally light, mainly onboard cruise ships, with both 110 and 220 volts used. Owned and used a bit over two years, but probably not over about 150 times, although the unit has likely traveled 50,000 miles and suffered a few light knocks, but no rough handling.

Performance and calendar service life = Five stars. Roughly 150 uses until failure = Three stars.

OVERALL: Four Stars. Will buy again.

I had a particular heating problem. I have a spa room built outside the house over an old cement patio about 6 feet from my back door, so it does not have access to the central heat. The room is not insulated, and has about 1/3 glass windows so I can look out into the yard while in the tub. I'm telling you all this so you will understand that the area is not easily heated. It is used for only short periods of time, so I didn't want to heat it 24/7. Without heating, the room is probably only 4 degrees warmer than the outdoor temperature.

In very cold weather, without a supplemental source of heat, I simply cannot abide undressing in 40° or less, even if the spa itself is nice and warm. So I bought a series of inexpensive heaters, none of which would do anything except heat the few feet around the heater. Then I saw the Laslo which said it had a "push" system to get the heat into the room. Having no idea what the "push" entailed, I bought it, knowing I could return this heater, as I'd done with the previous two, if it did not fill my needs. But I did not need to return it. It works for my purpose.

The unit is attractive, is tall and narrow so can fit into a small area, yet throw out heat sufficient to allow me to undress, use the spa, and re-dress in comfort. Then I turn it off. (I preheat the room easily using the digital brightly lit, large LCD thermostat which shows the ambient temperature, and moves up as the room heats. This a.m. the room started at 43° and now, after 15 minutes, it is up to 50° already. If I open the lid of the spa it will heat even more rapidly, of course). The room contains 3 exercise machines, also, so we can now exercise in comfort, as well. I have no need for the remote control which comes with the unit since I'm either in water or on a machine while using it.

I highly recommend this heater.

The heater work well in that it heats the room by several degrees (starting at 69) in just a few minutes. We used it last night for the first time in our 14'x15'x8' bedroom and after some experimentation put the thermostat at 75 degrees. The instructions say that in the automatic mode the unit will radiate heat until 77 degrees is reached and shut off at 74 degrees. It does shut off when the LED indicates the room temp. at 74 and stays on until 76 degrees (not 77). However, there is a disconnect between the digital thermometer in my room and the one on the heater. My digital thermometer indicates a low of 71.4 F. and a high of 75.4 F. I'm willing to live with that and the trick is to not be concerned about what's on the LED of the heater but what is the actual temperature of your room. I've never seen any heater's temp readout be accurate. Will exchanging it matter? I don't know, but if the room were to become too cold or hot during a given cycle I would exchange it. There seems to be no such thing as a perfect heater, so compromises need to be made. I find it confusing that there are about seven Lasko heaters within the same price range but numbered differently so I was not able to determine which one would best for my needs. I got this one because it was the only Lasko they had at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I think the heater is worth a try. The fan on high is not very loud, although you can readily hear it. I'm a light sleeper and I had no problem going to sleep with it on. It's a lot less noisy that the top-rated Vornado I own. Heaters with no fans don't distribute the heat very well so that was not an option for me; I knew there would be some noise with any fan. Would I buy this heater again? Yes, knowing what I know now, and I will follow up if my experience changes over the next several days.

This ceramic space heater has two fan speeds. Both speeds are quiet considering their blowing strength. The heater can oscillate, moving about 45 angle degrees back and forth on its little lower section; this is very smooth, not jumpy like some cheap oscillating fans. The room temperature is displayed normally on a very bright LED readout that shows the set temperature once you go to set the built-in thermostat. All the buttons are easy to access and give a light beep for confirmation. You can turn oscillation on or off, set high or low fan speed, set temperature, or use an automatic shutoff timer up to 8 hours. Looks great, with a great fit and finish.

Honest reviews on Lasko 5521 Ceramic Tower Heater

This will be my 3rd winter with this heater. I live in a cabin, (yes literally a cabin), but it is insulated and is small enough that it doesn't have a furnace. I use this heater in my main living space. It stays on all winter once the temperature begins to drop below freezing and has worked really well.

Efficiency

This heater does a good job of maintaining a comfortable living temperature. I set the temperature as I would a thermostat adjusting it to around 60 when I am going to be gone a long time, and raising it when I am home. I did find that if let the ambient temperature get two low while I am away, it will take the heater a long time to warm up the entire place, so I have a second smaller space heater that I use intermittently just to offset any excessive winter chill.

Thermostat Accuracy:

The digital thermostat is fairly accurate once the heat is circulated throughout the room , however, when it first turns on there may be up to a five degree difference in temperature based on how far away you are from the heater. When I return home I usually se the thermostat a few degrees higher than my target temperature and turn it down after I have been home awhile. I have another thermostat on the opposite side of the room, as well as a ceiling fan and have found that after about 20 minutes or so the ambient temperature evens out.

Cost vs other heat sources

This heater produces a LOT of heat and so will use a lot of electricity if run continuously as I do. For comparison I had been paying hundreds of dollars to heat my apartment when I had gas but running this heater as my sole heat source (on high) will cost me between 40 and $100 per month depending on how cold it is. We had a month last year where it was regularly 14 to 30 degrees below zero for more than two weeks and this heater kept me warm, but it added about $100 to my electric bill. So if you have a primary heat source other than this one, remember to turn it down as low as possible, and to block off unused areas or you will counteract any savings this powerful little heater might provide.

This unit is used in an uninsulated hallway to take the chill off, thaw out boots and clothes, and keep the cold draft out of the house. The heater has a small remote (line of sight only) and is programble for both high/low, rotation, temp, and timer operation or any combination there of. (yup you can run it on low setting in auto mode with the temp set)

The unit cycles to maintain a temp in auto mode by going 2 degrees over and under your set temp. So if you have it set to say 60 it will turn on at 58 and off at 62. I like this feature as it runs less overall. The rotation feature is smooth and quite, like the fan. The only loud thing on it is the thermostat, it makes an audible click like a bottle cap pop when the unit cycles on and off. Did not bother me but thought I would mention it. This thing puts out a lot of heat for its size and I was really amazed at how small it was, tucks in a corner nicely. Its perfect for an office, small bedroom (10x10), hallway or porch...

I monitored this unit with a Kill-a-watt power meter and @ .22cents per kw this unit is running about $24 per month to heat an uninsulated hallway in in old victorian home. We have it set @ 62 deg and the unit cycles on as needed. TO give you an idea its been about 25-30deg outside and the hallway befor the heater was 44 deg on average, colder overnight. So its raising the temp about 18deg for us ...huge diffrence...and worth it.
