Our first Deni went dead after one use. Deni customer service (Keystone Manufacturing) was outstanding though. Since it was a large heavy item, all they required was for the power cord to be cut off and mailed back to them, at which point they sent out a brand new pressure cooker. Unfortunately, the 2nd one arrived with the plastic base pretty much shattered, although there was no damage evident on the box. No problem! Customer service sent another replacement out immediately with no questions. Unfortunately (again), the new unit died after only 2 or 3 uses (at least it lasted longer than the 1st one!). So while their customer service seems great, this particular pressure cooker seems to die pretty easily (at least at higher altitude of the Rocky Mountain region). The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is due to the customer service.

I purchased the deni 9780 8 quart pressure cooker and all 4 were lemons. I like the looks and the features of the pressure cooker but they would only work 1 or 2 times and then it would die. This has got to be the worse pressure cooker on the market. Finally i told the deni rep to give me my money back that i think after 4 times that i should have got a good one. Dont waste your money on this lemon.

I like it. I am new to pressure cooking and have had some perfect outcomes. A few things not quite as good, but think my inexperience was more at fault. I have had great customer service when I called with questions. I needed the larger size for my bigger family and I would definitely buy it again. Have had 2 times when the lid did not seem to seat quite right and steam was escaping. I had to drop the pressure and restart the process. Would like the lid on perfect every time on the first try. There is now way to know it will leak until it leaks but again has happened only twice with many uses.

I bought mine from Kohl's. The package itself was undamaged. Taking the unit out of the box, the plastic base stayed in the styrofoam packing while the rest of the unit came out. This left exposed wires and the electric guts exposed. Obviously, I never used it so I don't know how well it works. It's a poor design. I am returning it and going to find a better product. I won't be a Deni though.

I've had this for about 3 weeks now and it's installed in the utility room next to my home office. I already have filtered water distributed throughout my house, so it was a piece of cake to add another tee and take a line into the water cooler. I had to go to the hardware store to get the parts I needed for that, but once I had them it took me all of about 10 minutes to hook this up. It does make a little bit of a hum when it's on, but it is extremely quiet (at least relative to the room I have it in).

With a reverse osmosis filter on this the water tastes fantastic; it takes about 30 minutes for it to cool the water down, a little less to heat up the hot water side (which by the way has to be turned on before it works -I didn't see the switch at first, so it didn't work until I flipped it).

I wish I'd purchased this sooner; it's fantastic to have a good source of cool (very cold, but not quite cold enough to be uncomfortable to drink) water in my office; I'm drinking 2 or 3 times as much as I had been.

Also, I should mention that the unit came in two boxes, which surprised me; the first had the cooler itself but it was configured to accept a giant water bottle, and the second had a replacement top for it that accepts water from a hose. That was a little confusing at first, but it only took me a few minutes to get it changed, and it's nice to know that I could use it with water bottles if I needed to.

The machine is kind of easy to setup, though it took me a while to figure out. The instructions are kind of worthless. On my first attempt I hooked up the water source to the cleaning drain, which resulted in the machine overfilling and spilling water everywhere. There is a plastic tube that you're supposed to hook the water up to.

Only other complaint is that it's a bit louder than I'd expect. The water is a good temperature though, so I'm happy with it.

I just placed an order for the Clover D7A Hot and Cold Point of Use Water Dispenser in Black.

I called to ask questions before I ordered and the lady I spoke to in Sales was very helpful.

I was confused about the difference between two models and she helped clarify that question.

I also asked about whether or not you need a professional to come install it as mentioned by one of the reviews on their website but found out if we already have the hook ups, then it shouldn't be a problem. When I asked about the instructions being hard to read due to the amount of times it has been copied, she said that if there were any issues with the instructions that they could get customers connected to the vendor.

I've been looking for something like this dispenser to replace the broken one in our breakroom. I was having trouble finding one like it (and even went to Ktown in LA to look for it) and am glad Air-N-Water carry it.

So 5 stars for the customer service thus far and I'll update my review shortly when we get the product.

There isn't much to say about an electric griddle unless it's very badly designed.

This one has a slight lip around 3 sides, the 4th side has a recessed area for fat to drain into so it can collect in a small drawer in the middle, and the thermostat goes from warm to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pros-

Size, I can make 8 pancakes about the size of my palm at a time

non-stick surface is very non-stick, no greasing required

Heats fairly fast325 is about the perfect point for most things that I make.

Doesn't put out a lot of ambient heat, so good for cooking on warm days

Heat is evenly distributed, everything on the surface cooks at about the same speed.

Cons-

The draining area seems a little flimsy, and the drawer is loosely put in

Not made for really easy clean up. If you're making anything with a lot of grease it might be hard to completely clean it.

So I wouldn't use this for hamburgers, but for things with not much grease like turkey or chicken sausage, French toast and pancakes, this is very convenient.

I plugged this in to test it and cranked the control all the way to an indicated 400F. The heating element never turned off. Concerned, I went to the shop for my infrared thermometer "gun". Over five hundred degrees! Teflon releases toxic gases at high temperature and my griddle was smelling. Turned the thermostat down to an indicated 250F and the thermometer gun read 375F and the heat distribution is pretty even. My pancakes were too brown at that set point so I turned it down further to an indicated 225F. It makes good pancakes (which is what I bought it for) but if it wasn't for such a bargain sale price at a big-box store this would have been returned.

Our older (5 years or so) unit from another company never seemed to cook evenly. The PS was on sale and on a whim we purchased it, and broke it in per the instructions (was and dry). My first task was cooking several pounds of bacon for an upcoming event. Compared to our old unit I was pleased that it seemed to distribute the heat evenly, and more importantly there were not as many cold/hot cycles (meaning it maintained an even heat fairly well). I cooked the thick sliced bacon per the PS recommendations; 375 degrees. It did a good job. What I didn't like was the thin lip around the unit; it was too easy to push a food item off the griddle when trying to flip it over. And, the grease seemed to pool more than I liked; the back legs of the unit should be a little higher than the front so the grease runs off, but it seemed to fairly level instead. Whether because of the little lip, the temperature, or other factors, it seemed to splatter more; the dial was covered in grease by the time I was finished. If you are looking for a budget griddle and don't have too high expectations, this is a decent unit. At this point I would recommend it.

To my surprise my husband bought this home from the grocery store. My eyes lit up at the site of box. I was happy just thinking about using less pans to cook breakfast. Well, this griddle has not let me down yet. I cook sausage, bacon, eggs, and hashbrowns on it and it only takes 15 minutes. I put the grand biscuits in the oven at the same time. When the oven timer goes off all you have to do is plate the food and pour a glass of orange juice. I have only had it for a month so I can't speak on longevity, but I hope it lasts a long time. The OCD poster is right about it being too long for the kitchen cabinets, but I have no problem storing it by the width.

Purchased 3 of these griddles as gifts for Christmas. Gave one to my mom, who used it once in two months. Went to her place in March and plugged in the griddle and it wouldn't heat. The tip of the prod that plugs into the griddle had melted and it wouldn't fit in right to heat the griddle. I thought, no problem, I'll take it back. Can't take it back to the store..they suggested calling Proctor Silex since they carry the warranty. Called twice. Both times got really rude people. They claim under warranty I would still have to pay shipping, handling, and processing to get the new plug sent. This would cost about the same amount I purchased the griddle for. Even went so far as to tell me it's like buying a car....doesn't matter how little you drove it, once you buy it, it's yours. I dont' see the relevance of a car compared to a griddle. They wouldn't stand behind their product. I tried to talk to someone else higher up, but they won't even try to transfer you unless you give them your name, address, phone number, and other stuff. Won't buy anything Proctor Silex again!

This is advertised as a waffle maker, but it is not. There is not a ridge or waffle involved. It is a pancake form of Mickey Mouse. The old version which was discontinued was a waffler, and photo they use shows the waffle that the previous item produced. The new Mickey Mouse Waffler would not show up well since there is no depth to the facial features, and there is only a hint of an outline of the face of Mickey Mouse.

If you truly want a waffle maker this is not one.

This product is a lot of fun.

A bell would be nice to tell you when it's done but no big deal. Shouldn't be walking out of the kitchen with something like this on anyway. You do hear a click when the light turns on.

We use a large water bottle to dispense the batter. That way you can squeeze it out of a small opening and distribute it evenly.

After receiving my refrigerator, I found that the only thing that worked was the light came on when you opened the door. The cooling system did not work from either power source. Called Koolatron about warranty and was told to contact vendor. Guess defective merchandise doesn't concern them. Vendor had me return unit at my own expense ($78.84) for them to verify the problem. They confirmed the unit was bad and shipped a replacement but refused to reimburse the cost of sending the defective unit back. Contacted Koolatron again and was once again told that it was my problem and not their's. Was really concerned that if the second fridge didn't work, would I have to again pay another shipping charge? The replacement does work but feel I had to unfairly pay an additional $78.84 for that privledge. Will never do business again with a company that has such a cavalier attitude about customer satisfaction.

The fridge works well (items remained quite cold inc. meat) but it deadened our battery after we switched the car off for 10hrs. We ended up unplugging it o/night which sort of defeated the purpose of having the fridge vs. an esky. Would work best with a 2nd battery.

I have this radiant heater and 2 similar models. They are all noisy for about 15 seconds when they turn on. I suggest running it on low in small rooms so it does not cycle on and off. I buy this type of heater for 2 reasons. 1. I find that forced air heaters dry out the air, which irritates by allergies. 2. The biggest reason is that my cats LOVE laying in front of these heaters for hours. The heater gives off a glow which feels like you are sitting in the sun. I have been using them for years without any safety issues, just use common sense.

This unit does a good job heating up my small office (measuring about 10'x12') rather quickly, and its thermal control keeps the room in a comfortable temperature by turning the unit on and off automatically. The unit radiates heat over a pretty large area (with a small fan helping push the hot air out front). This means that it probably will do a good job keeping you warm in a larger space as well, as long as it's placed closeby.

My only complaint is the noise. The unit makes a rather loud rattling noise when its heating elements turn on, which lasts about 10-15 seconds. The fan is reasonably quiet in the low setting, but can be distracting when on high. I certainly wouldn't put one of these in the bedroom.

I really like the Holmes HQH307 quartz heater. I use it to warm up my master bathroom in the morning. I turn it on before I hop in the shower. By the time I get out of the shower, the bathroom is toasty warm and I can stand in front of the heater while drying off.

I went through several other heaters over a three year period before settling on this one. I've used two different ceramic heaters, one was a low cube and one was a tower. Neither one of those put out as much heat as I wanted yet they consumed a lot of electricity. Then I tried a parabolic heater. It was much more efficient, but the beam of heat was too narrow. It would heat a portion of my body too much and the rest not enough. It wouldn't heat the room at all.

I've had my HQH307 for about three months which is long enough to verify that it doesn't cost as much to use as the ceramic heaters did, yet it puts out a lot more heat. The internal fan is powerful, but it's also pretty loud. For my purpose in the bathroom, that's not a problem. The fan setup is well designed: It pulls air in from the top and pushes it out the front between the heating elements which heats up the whole bathroom rather easily. The heating elements rattle a bit during the first few seconds of warming up, but that is standard on quarts heaters. The rattle goes away almost immediately.

The lifting handle molded into the back of the case is in a good location and stays cool. Don't mistake the bar across the front for a handle because it gets HOT!! It's just there to keep the front of the heater off the floor in case of a tip-over. I like the manual controls on the top of the heater. One turns the heater to low or high and the other adjusts the variable temperature control. Simple and foolproof.

The Holmes HQH307 quartz heater is a great value and I recommend it without hesitation.

NOTE: I also own a Holmes HQH319U quartz heater which is about $20 more. It has the same housing and heating elements, but the fan is quieter and the controls are digital. You might consider it if you want a powerful and efficient heater that's not as loud.

After having purchased (and returned) a handul of different heating units, I purchased this unit last year from Wal-Mart for around $50. My original intention was to locate an inexpensive space heater that would heat a medium sized room and, at the least, heat me but I continued to find units that didn't live up to their marketing slogans, including the oft praised mica boards. Having almost given up, I decided to limit my scope to something that would at least heat my general direction. This heater is perfect for just such a cause (whereas the other heaters couldn't even do that well; in fact, I spent all night waiting for the mica board to do SOMETHING and was sorely disappointed).

PROS:

Heats up FAST. Consistent. Definitely warms you. Pleasing glow. Auto shutoff for overheat or tipping. PERFECT for a single or two-person family.

CONS:

Limited heating area point and blast with this one, don't expect the entire room to feel heated. If the room is SMALLER, it can do that job, but a living room may feel lacking.

Loud You may not mind the sound of this unit but if you're working on something requiring acute attention, this may bug you. In fact, the unit isn't that loud and I personally find it to have a pleasing hum, but some reviewers claim it's as loud as a race track I'm sure they're being facetious.

I gave it three stars because it can't heat up a medium sized room. However, for its price, and for the consistently pleasing temperature it maintains, I would HIGHLY recommend this heater, ESPECIALLY for single and two-person households.

For the money this is a great heater. The heat is radiant and penetrating and provides more deep-down warmth to a room than does a ceramic heater. I like the glow, which reminds me of a woodburning stove.

The initial rattle is nothing to be concerned about and it does go away in seconds. However, I had a lesser, continuing rattle when the heater was sitting on a carpeted floor. I took a thin cutting board with an extremely hard plastic surface to set the heater on on top of the carpet. That cured it! I was careful to keep an eye on it and make sure that the cutting board was not getting warm, starting to melt, etc. The cutting board was not impacted at all. In fact, it stayed surprisingly cool despite the heat being put out, even on a high setting.

The manual controls do not bother me. There is no digital temperature reading, which does not matter to me either. I don't think the thermostats on economical heaters are that accurate anyway. The thermostat does facilitate cycling on and off throughout the night while I am sleeping, which is what I am really after.

If I do hear it running in the night, I briefly think "aah, heat" and go back to sleep. If I do notice the glow, I briefly think "aah, nightlight" and go back to sleep.

There are more elaborate heaters out there for more money, but for what I have spent I am getting good, penetrating heat, and thanks to my cutting board it is rattle-free in a carpeted room.

This certainly isn't marketed at people with a knowledge of thermodynamics. It advertises that it uses 1/10 the heat of a space heater, but that means it also puts out 1/10 of the heat.

As as space heater I can see this thing being pretty poor because of its low heat output, but It worked perfectly for my application. I used it for a makeshift kotatsu (a Japanese heated table) It works great for that because you don't want 1000 watts cooking your feet. Its really thin, and it won't burn you if you hit it with your knee. It was a tad difficult to mount upside-down. I cut out some wooden mounting blocks and screwed it directly into the bottom of the table. They give you velcro to mount it vertically, which is a joke considering how heavy it is.

I bought this heater for our bird cage to keep them warm during cool season. Its radiant model works just great, zero noise, distributes the heat evenly and does not disturb the birds like the regular fan heater models that not only not energy efficient but also really noisy. And best of all, it uses only 100W try to compare it to any other regular heater that would eat 750W-1000W minimum. Got it amortized in less than two months. The overall dimension is about 16"x22"x1" so it can be placed anywhere. I'm glad I found this one and Amazon is the best and least expensive place to buy from.

I thought this would be perfect for my office, which is always kept freezing cold. However, while it fits great under desk, low voltage etc, and the panel itself is warm, you can't feel any heat unless you are physically touching it. with it's feet it doesn't sit high enough to slide your feet underneath so your legs can actually be within an inch of the panel, I've raised it up on boxes on either side, so my feet can partially fit under, but still I freeze at work all day. not satisfied.

I purchased two of these 3 years ago for my bathroom. I mounted one under my towel bar and the other next to my toilet, then wired them to a motion sensing outlet for extra efficiency. I hate utility bills, so this item has been perfect for me. I now have warm towels and a warm toilet seat when wanted. They've also taken the winter chill out of my bathroom.

I'm now purchasing two more to mount under my living room futon to keep my wife and I's legs warm under a blanket while we watch movies this winter. I'd previously set a 1200 watt fin style space heater under there but the heat was too much when cranked and got cold when the thermostat shut off. Plus the risk of fire had me constantly checking it.

The warmth of the cozy legs panel is perfect for many applications, so be creative, just don't expect it to heat an entire room. I personally think they're awesome and very safe.

I bought this air conditioner off amazon because during the heat wave here all of the stores locally had sold out. I was concerend about such a large delicate item being shipped to me but UPS must have done their job correctly because it arrived to me safely. I bought this unit after my Soleus Air Conditioner broke down on me during a 105 degree day. I got online and found this air conditioner the very next day. I used the free super saver shipping and received it 2 days later even though it said 5 to 8 business days which was FANTASTIC!

I installed this unit by myself but I do not recommend it. I am a huge strong guy and have above average knowledge of installing window air conditioners. This unit is huge and heavy and cools my entire house. I live in a small 3 bedroom one story house and with the aid from a few fans every room stays nice and cool even on the hottest humid days. I have the unit in my living room I position a fan pointed down the hall from my living room to funnel cold air to the bedrooms and bathroom and have a fan in two of the bedrooms which works great! It is 102 degrees right now as I am writing this review I have the unit set on 67 energy saver and its frosty in every room. It gets downright freezing at night in all the rooms after the sun has set for a while. No complaints so far about the performance but I do have a small issue of the front panel cover. The front panel cover is slighly bulky and feels pretty cheap. I would expect a more sleek design from LG and I do not lik it does not have an option on the display for me to see what the temperature is in the room it only allows you to see the temp you have the ac set for.

I'll give a more detailed performance review after I've had it working for a while, but wanted to give a heads-up about handling this during delivery.

I'm giving this another chance. I tried this last year, but the Fedex guy dropped it while unloading it from the truck. The G-force bent the mount that holds the motor and fan creating a grinding sound. Amazon had it picked up for free and refunded all of my money with no problems. This year I purchased it from a local electronics store. Two skinny little guys delivered it to my apartment, which made me nervous. I did notice that there is a slight wobble to the fan as it turns, but I'm hoping this won't be a problem. Not sure if they dropped it during loading/unloading.

So far I'm trying different locations for installation and it is putting out a lot of cold air. Once it is fully installed and running, I'll update my review.

Bottom-line; Make sure you know who is delivering this to you and how. This thing is heavy and hard to get a grip on, make sure there are two guys.

Update:

I finally got it installed in my one bedroom apartment and it produced really cold air! I'm using it on the lowest setting so I don't disturb my neighbors in nearby apartment units. It was 88 degrees outside and my place was cooled down to 74 very quickly. I'm sure I could have gotten it much colder if needed. I don't detect any problems from the fan, as mentioned above. Timer shuts it off several hours later as needed and the energy features shut off both the compressor and the fan until cooling is need again.

Giving it 4 stars of now, because getting to your house without some kind of damage makes me wonder about the long term quality. Maybe it needs a real shipping container instead of a cardboard box with 1" to 2" of styrofoam!

Once the outside temp gets into the 90's and 100's, I'll give another update.

Update 2:

I have operated the unit with outside temps around 97 degrees now. I had no problem keeping the apartment around 72 degrees with the fan set at the lowest setting.

Note that if you have this AC unit set on timer mode it will auto increase the temp by 2 degrees after about 2 hours, then stop increasing. They do this because they think your body is getting colder by 2 degrees while you sleep. I found this out the hard way. I couldn't understand why the unit was changing my temp settings. Now if I use the timer, I just set it 2 degrees colder than normal.

Our AC started to act up just after the warranty was up. First the touch pad on the AC itself stopped working, and we could only operate the unit by remote.

Then it started working again normally on it's own after about a month. It was short lived though because the remote stopped working(changing the batteries did not help). Then shortly after that, all of buttons on the unit failed except the power button. In order for it to work, the power button had to be held down for about 3 seconds..... but the mode/fan speed/ temp etc did not respond to touch. Then the unit started working once again on it's own. The last issue is, the AC will automatically change it's temperature. Lowering, or raising the temperature on it's own, usually in the middle of the night. Not only did I get a piece of junk, but I got a possessed piece of junk starts to beep when one try's to sleep.

LG's site support was difficult to navigate, and the AC is too heavy for one to carry to a repair shop. I'm done with LG's AC line.

I bought one of these a few months ago and have been using it to a moderate level of satisfaction. I have tried it with iPhone, iPod touch, and my wife's iPad. Due to the awful battery life of the iPhone and iPod touch, I primarily use it with the iPad. I use it with two probes to monitor the temperature of a chosen cut of meat and the internal temperature of my Primo XL smoker.

This product has so much potential but I'm only giving it 3 stars. Why? Well, for one thing, the build quality is a little bit suspect. I have a white unit, and the plastic housing doesn't feel very tough or rugged at all. I wouldn't want to see the unit take a fall onto a hard floor the plastic has a flimsy, almost brittle feel to it. While I would like it to be more rugged, it's not my primary concern. My biggest concern/complaint is that so far, the iGrill is ONLY compatible with their own homegrown IOS iGrill app. The app itself is okay and provides some basic functionality, and is generally fine for short duration cooks, but when I am doing "low and slow" cooks (of up to 30 hour duration), I need a more robust app with a few more features.

1) The iPad app just closes on its own periodically. This means you lose all the data that's been collected on the temperature trendlines.

2) There is no way to log the data to a file. I'd love to have the app just pump it into a csv file or even "to the cloud" in google docs. When I am cooking new things on the smoker, it's great to be able to go back and see exactly how long it took to cook items and how it correlated to the grill temp

3) There is a target temperature alarm that you can set independently for both probes, but when I leave the smoker going all day long or overnight, I'd love to be able to have a LOW temp alert an alarm that alerts me if the grill temp dips too low.

4) This is one of the things I hate about IOS, but this app won't operate in the background, so if you're using your iPad/iPhone/iPod touch to monitor a long cook, you can't really use that device for any other apps without losing your temperature data. Of course, when the app crashes on its own like it does, it doesn't much matter.

Honestly I would forget about those app shortcomings if there were a full featured app available for Mac OSX and Windows 7. Most laptops have bluetooth adapters and you can get a cheap USB bluetooth adapter for a desktop computer for less than $10. I hope iDevices strongly considers doing this or at the very least releasing an SDK or API so independent developers can create their own apps to communicate with the iGrill. If that happens I would give the iGrill a bump to 4.5 stars. (To reach 5 stars it still needs to be more rugged).

Just a few other notes

1) battery life seems pretty good. 4 fresh batteries seem to go for at least 50-60 hours of use.

2) the display on the device is nice for a quick temp check when your wife confiscates her iPad, but it can be difficult to read in bright light, at least on the unit like mine with the white plastic housing.

3) i bought my iGrill at the apple store because I'm impatient and didn't want to wait weeks to order one online. Unfortunately it's only sold with a single probe at the Apple Store. I ordered a spare probe directly from iDevices but they rip you off on shipping and you end up paying around $30 for the 2nd probe. The probes seem accurate but like the iGrill itself, I am a little suspicious of the durability the wire lead is quite thin, so $30 is a ripoff. It's better to buy the bundle that includes 2 probes with the base unit.

4) I don't expect the white housing to hold up very well over time. If the Apple Store had it in black, I definitely would have purchased the black one. That white plastic gets dirty easily and I'm pretty certain it will yellow as it ages.

UPDATE August 11, 2011:

It's been a few months since I wrote my initial review above, and coincidentally, (almost as if on cue) an updated version of the iGrill app came out within a few days of that first review being released. Much to my delight, a lot of features were added to the new version 2.0 app, including items #2 and #3 in the list above. Unfortunately, there are still some glitches. I have not been able to get the CSV file function to work at all it just freezes and crashes the app. The pdf function works, but for very long cooks, the scaling on the graph is messed up so that the labels on the x-axis all overlap each other, making them completely illegible. The updated app seems to be a bit more stable I have witnessed a few lockups and freezes here and there but the last 2 long cooks I've done, it didn't crash at all. I had a few issues where it wouldn't link up with the outdoor unit for several minutes, or it would launch and then close immediately, but I think I have it figured out now. Basically, launch the app and turn on the iGrill device as soon as the app loads. If it doesn't display a temperature right away, just wait a few minutes and it will show up. Another glitch I've found that impacts the device's usefulness is if one of the probes is over 125F when you turn the iGrill on, it seems to lock everything up. This happened once when the iGrill app crashed in the middle of a cook, and in an effort to get everything going again, I pulled the batteries out of the iGrill device. When I replaced them and turned the iGrill on, the alarm sounded immediately and the iGrill app couldn't connect, so eventually I figured out I had to remove the probes from the food in the grill to get it restarted. It was quite a frustrating ordeal.

I hate throwing away alkaline batteries so I use rechargeable AAs in almost everything. The iGrill works pretty well with the NiMh batteries that I have, but the "low battery" threshold in the iGrill app should be lowered. Due to the slightly lower voltage of rechargeable AAs, the iGrill erroneously thinks the batteries are running out of juice and it throws false warnings. It will show up within minutes after putting in a freshly charged set of AAs, but then the iGrill works fine for a good 40-60 hours even though it thinks the batteries are low.

Regarding probe accuracy, mine seem to be pretty accurate. I tested both of the probes that I have and both of them read within 1 degree of each other across a wide range of temps. I have tested them against a digital J/K thermometer and the readings are within 1-2 degrees across the range of tested temps, so I think these are accurate enough for cooking. The wires are braided metal but they tangle easily and compared to the probes on my other meat thermometers, they seem rather fragile, so I try to be careful with them when wrapping or unwrapping the leads for storage.

My Williams Sonoma probe thermo just stopped working. So in my search I came across the IGrill and saw some pretty weak reviews. I don't take much stock in most reviews as most are just upset buyers that don't take the time to work out minor kinks in a new product. So on my own judgement and knowing that the apple store sells these units, I bought one. Apple is pretty good about not selling products that don't uphold their high standards of quality.

Best Deals on iDevices iGrill Grilling/Cooking BBQ Thermometer

Despite the mediocre reviews, I really wanted to have a good experience the iGrill. I do a lot of BBQ on a Weber Smokey Mountain, and a wireless thermometer is invaluable. My existing wireless is a PITA to sync and keep synced, so when I saw the iGrill's bluetooth capabilities, I thought, "brilliant"!

Well, it would be brilliant except for the apparent faulty probe. I am attempting to smoke a beef brisket using the iGrill and noticed the meat's temp jumping to over 145 degrees in an hour. Given my smoker's temp was only at 250, I suspected an issue.

After some troubleshooting, I observed the following:

A. The probe's temp wildly fluctuating depending on how the probe connector was positioned to the base unit.

B. Even when "settled", the probe shows a temperature consistently 10-15 degrees above that of my trusty Pyrex probe thermometer.

I've emailed iGrill to request a probe replacement, but do not expect to hear from them for at least a day.

If I get a replacement probe that works, I will update this review, but at this point, I simply cannot recommend the iGrill.

EDIT: As I indicated in a reply to a comment, I did receive a replacement probe from the vendor. However, that probe only lasted two months before failing in the same manner. iDevices needs to figure out what is wrong with their probe manufacturing process, because something is not working.

I saw this advertised somewhere and went on here to buy it, then I saw the reviews and it scared me off. Apparently my wife noticed it too but didn't care in desperate need for a father's day gift. Having read the previews reviews I was a bit hesitant to use it, but it's been working pretty good.

Range: It's Bluetooth, it is not designed to go far and through thick walls, so for me that means having the device in line of sight on the deck, about 20 feet from the kitchen window, while the iPad rests on the rim of the window inside. That way I can prep inside and keep an eye on the temperature. I tried a bit further and it wouldn't work.

Connectivity: It connects pretty well. If you turn on the device first and then open the app, it sees the device pretty much right away. If you have the app already open and turn on the device, it seems like it can take up to 10 seconds. That's enough time to get upset about it not working and start closing apps, switching the device on and off, and fiddle with Bluetooth settings. Some patience and it works fine. One thing I noticed is that every time you pair the item with the Bluetooth device, it will prompt you that there is a matching app available and then links to an app that doesn't exist. There must be some kind of identifier issue, between the device and the software in the app store.

Accuracy: I can not complain at all, we have enjoyed moist chicken and steak. Yesterday I made a roast in the stove and I used the iGrill. After 45 minutes it told me the desired temperature was achieved, which was 15 minutes earlier than I expected. I blew off the iGrill insisting on the 1 hour cook time, well, it was too done and the iGrill was in fact right on the money. I definitely trust the iGrill.

App: The app is beautiful, intuitive and very functional. Actually it was just recently completely redesigned. One of my favorite features is that it estimates when the final temperature will be achieved and displays a history graph of the current probe.

Build Quality: I haven't had any issues, it's made of plastic and I treat my kitchen tools usually with care. I can see how it would break if you drop it a lot or hit it with sharper utensils, but any thermometer would seem prone to that. One thing that's nice about the main unit that it isn't just a dumb transmitter, it will also display the temperature and sound an alarm when the settings are reached that I programmed on the iDevice. So when I am right at the grill I still get the full benefit of the device.

Future improvements:

Allow to pair with more than one device I would like to use it with my iPhone and iPad at the same time

Provide thinner probes, these probes like most consumer cooking thermometers are thick and pierce big holes into delicate pieces of meat

Don't reset the meat type after alarm I simply want to push the probe into the next batch of chicken without having to fiddle with the iDevice

Provide a way to store the second probe the first one wraps and clips nicely to the main unit, the second one, well it just lays around.

Get rid of the annoying "an app is available" message on bluetooth connection

Bottom Line: I am really happy with the device, it does what it's supposed to and it does it well. Sure there are possible improvements, but what device is perfect. Is it worth twice as much as a good traditional digital two probe thermometer, probably, but I think it would sell better in the $50 to $75 range, but that's something that may happen once more people start buying it. I feel my wife spent the money well and surprised me with a nice professional gadget.

I've used various grill thermometers over the years, for the past few years I've been using the Weber wireless unit. I was never satisfied with that, it seemed like it was always losing its signal at an inopportune moment (and I LOVE most Weber products).

When I saw the iGrill become available, I figured it was worth a shot. The $100 price tag concerned me a bit, but this is a case of "ya get what ya pay for". I've only used this thing in the heat of battle a couple of times, but it worked flawlessly. The software is a bit clunky, which I assume will improve over time (I'd give it 5 stars but for that), but all in all, I think this thing is well worth the money. And it definitely has a coolness factor that no other grill thermometer can hope to emulate. Well done! (pun intended).

This is a heating pad for the long term. It heats to a specific temperature you set which is very nice, so much better than the four settings on most heating pads. You also can set it for a specific amount of time up to 60 minutes which beats the pads that make you hold a button down to keep it on. There is a quiet yet audible tone to let you know you set it and that it is turning off. It allows you to reset it for another 60 minute cycle immediately if you hear the tone which is a nice way to prevent you from harming yourself without being too big brother-ish or waking you up. The moist heat somehow gathers atmospheric moisture so it does not work the best if your in a low humidity situation or if you are laying on the thing. All in all, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Overall, I love this heating pad. My only complaints are about the controller, but the heating pad itself is very nice. I like that the temperature is variable and that if I really want it to be hot, it is. The pad heats up quickly.

My biggest complaint is that the controller doesn't have a light on it. It's hard to read the display in dim light. If I'm lying in bed in the darkness and just want to adjust the temperature, I don't want to have to get up, get out of bed, and walk over to the light switch just to do it. Generally, I grab my cell phone which is on the night stand and do my best to use it like a flash light, but the controller is still hard to read by that dim light.

The controller has a timer, and you can only have the heat on for 60 minutes, maximum. After that, it shuts off. I understand that safety feature. Sometimes, I like to just keep the heating pad on my lower back or on my shoulders while I watch TV or work on the computer in the evening and I would prefer it to be on for longer than 60 minutes. It's slightly annoying to have to reset it. If you turn it off, it remembers how much time was left. And it remembers the temperature setting, too. When you turn it back on, it sets it to the same temperature and gives you the remaining minutes. If you want to change either, you can, at that point. I generally like to keep it in the same temperature range, so that's fine. I would prefer that instead of giving me the remaining minutes, it would reset to 60.

This was definitely worth the money to me. Mainly because it can get up to a very high heat.

After using an old-school heating pad, this is like walking on the moon. It magically provides moist heat that gets plenty hot deep down into muscle tissue, with adjustible temperature and time controls. The other reviews are spot on with their complaints: 1) It would be great if the control had backlighting of some sort, because it's very difficult to see the settings without having to interfere with your rest by putting some light on it to set the temperature or time or to turn it (back) on or off; and 2) the loud beep it makes when cutting off is rather annoying, since if you're using a heating pad in the first place, you're probably sore, achy and in need of rest, so to have it sound an alarm when it cuts off can awaken you and/or anyone else in the bed, but we've found that muffling it is possible by gently placing the control beneath a pillow, throw or stuffed animal. Despite those two wished-for changes, this heating pad is worth every penny. In fact, we ended up getting two so that hubby and I both have one at the same time, without having to swap one back and forth when, for instance, we're both in need after physical therapy, exercise or injury. We love it and highly recommend it.

I was looking for a good heating pad for my back and liked several functions this one offers, digital, moist heat and a large size as I am a large person. What I wasn't expecting was the heaviness of the pad. The instructions say not to lie on the pad, but to be honest it is difficult to lie on my stomach for any great length of time, and then it was hard to keep the pad from slipping. So, the heck with it, I laid on my back on the pad and it was great. Quick heat up time, great control functions. But it is large so expect it to take up some storage room.

Good product. Accurate, easy to use, inexpensive and wide temperature range. Many digital thermometer have a minimum temperature of 32F, so you cannot use them to check your freezer. This product has a range of -40F to 450F so it will do both oven and freezer. Tested in an ice water bath, it was only off about 1F, better then others I have measured. Comes with a neat magnetized plastic stand that holds it up at readable angle. Has a C/F switch on back.

Only minor negative is that while the upper range is advertized to be 450F, the documentation gives a slightly lower maximum temperature for the silicone cord. I'm writing this after using the product for a couple of months and I've lost the documentation, but my memory says the max cord temperature was listed as 425F.

(update 12/28/09)

Caution --Amazon has pulled a fast one. This TruTemp model may be fine, but I don't really know, because it's not the TruTemp model I wrote about in 2008. Amazon (without asking or informing me) has shifted my 2008 TruTemp review to this new model. This model has four front buttons like the old model, but the display, probe shape, and mount look different. The biggest change I see is that a feature I really liked is now gone: ability to measure freezer temperature. Bad, bad Amazon....

I love this thermometer. I purchased it directly at the store after reading some reviews of others at high end retailer web sties. Those may have more features, but really, how many things are you going to cook at once. For the rest of us, there's this one for a great price. Since I've purchased it, I haven't overcooked a pork roast or turkey. You insert the probe into the meat and put the digital readout on the front of your oven. Set the temp you want, turn on the alarm and walk away. When the internal temp of the meat reaches your set point, an alarm sounds and your set. No more opening the oven, letting out all the heat and checking the temp, only to find you missed it and now your meat is overcooked.

It seems that most people recommend Taylor digital probe thermometers for oven or smokers. I've used several of them and I'm not happy, primarily because the high end limit is 350 degrees.

This Tru Temp thermometer goes up to 450 degrees and works as well or better then the the Taylors in all other respects. It suffers from the same general problems as others in that the probes are fairly easily damaged. But for the money you simply can't beat it.

I use this thermometer for smoking meat. I like to put one probe in the open in the smoker to monitor smoker tempterature. The rest go into the meat. I've generally gotten about a year and a half out of the probes.

Another thing I like about the probes is they are straight. Most of the others, like Taylor, have a large curve in them and that curve gets in the way. The straight probe is preferable to me.

The read out is large and easy to read and the set points are easy to use. The alarm can be heard inside, which is perfect. The base has magnets built in so you can attach it to anything made or ferrous metal.

Be sure to store these indoors if you use them with you smoker or grill. Left outdoors the digits will begin to fail on the display. I learned this the hard way.

I have 5 of these units, and have given two away as gifts. The price is great, and it has a 1 second refresh rate for quick measurements, and I couldn't be happier with the product or vendor. I use them for other things, such as radiator temp, and my favorite is attaching a long stick to the probe to check how the compost pile is cooking. It only uses one battery that lasts many months, even though it's on all the time. One thing I did is seal the interface between the probe and silicone sheath with Silicone RTV caulk, normally used for caulking bathrooms, etc. That caulk has a working temperature of 450 F, so should hold up. I didn't want it to possibly get inside the probe and damage the sensor, so that's why the seal. It also measures in either F, or C, which is a nice feature. The high/low alarm is handy, and cooking caramel, or other candy is just more fun when you can easily see the temperature, rather than squinting at the numbers on a typical glass candy thermometer...that is usually coated with what you're cooking. Get one of these, and it'll be hard to go back to the other thermometers!

This thing worked fine for about 6 months, I used it mainly for grilling steaks, pork and chicken. But once the cord starts to come loose from the probe it's time to chuck this piece of junk in the trash. I'm shopping for a wireless thermo now.

I ordered two of these thermometers. Subtract one star because the product description clearly states a 2 second sampling rate and 1.2 meter wire. The little slip of paper that comes with the thermometers clearly states a sampling rate of 10 seconds. Testing revealed a sampling rate of 9 seconds. The wire on both thermometers measured 29 inches. That's a lot shorter than 1.2 meters.

Subtract another star for quirky electronics. Each thermometer shipped with two batteries. The battery compartment holds two batteries. I installed the batteries in one thermometer. Nothing happened! No worky! I installed the other two batteries into the second thermometer. Nothing happened! While trying to resolve the issue, one of the batteries fell out. Low and behold, the thermometer turns on. I then removed one of the batteries from the second thermometer. That one started working too. The thermometers work if you install only one of the two required batteries. Oddest thing I've ever seen.

In addition to testing the sampling rate, I also tested precision and accuracy. The two thermometers stayed within two tenths of a degree as I moved them from room temp to freezer to refrigerator. Both thermometers were within two degrees of the temperature as measured by other thermometers. This works for me.

Be forewarned, these are shipping from China. Two other sellers have an identical product under different listings. I chose this seller because it did NOT specify the item as being shipped from overseas. On May 1, I received a shipment notification email with an expected delivery date of June 12!!! Luckily, they arrived on May 11.

I bought a new freezer after my old one quit on me and I lost $100 worth of meat.

I wanted a thermometer to mount on the outside of the new freezer so I could keep

tabs on the temperature and I figured that $5 was not too much to invest. It works

great and I couldn't have asked for much more. That is, after I got used to the

fact that it only displays in Centigrade. Not really a big deal. I just had to

make a simple calculation to see what zero fahrenheit was in Centigrade. I

can really recommend this little thermometer.

I bought 2 of these hoping to use them for my beer brewing activities (monitoring mash temperature and fermenting temp). After installing the LR44 batteries that came with them, I sat the side by side on my desk. After 10 minutes they were different by 5 degrees. I then put them both in my refrigerator, and they were still 5 degrees apart. What gives? Which one is correct? Guess I need to go back to the good old stick thermometer to calibrate these.

Beware it is only reading in Centigrade and not Fahrenheit, it has no on /off . the instructions was for another product. I hope the battery's last a year or better.

Here's why.

1. It's a ceramic heater, supposedly the safest kind. Except for the meshed front, the unit's body has no hot parts.

2. At least four feet in length, the power chord is reasonably long.

3. The instructions provided are short, simple, and easily understood.

4. I use the unit in a 12'x15' room. It doesn't heat-up the entire room. I have to sit very close to the heater to feel it's powerful and focused heat blow. The lost stars in the rating.

5. There's only a soft whirring sound when it's working to reach up to the desired heat-setting. That's rather quiet.

6. I once deliberately had it on for eight straight hours. On "1500 Watts" and the maximum on the thermostat dial.

Other notes: A compact unit, it weighs little. There's a light that tells if the unit is plugged in. And another light to tell if the desired heat-setting has been reached. The unit's thermostat dial doesn't give a numerical temperature reading.

Regarding the previous review: It's not a design flaw. The "sliding control" on top has three settings. "Off," "750 Watts," and "1500 Watts." Perhaps the one you got is defective.

I purchased two of these space heaters to heat my apartment. Immediately after signing my lease I discovered that very few things worked in the apartment. The insulation is terrible, and gauging by the failure of the stove and water heater I don't trust the shoddy looking baseboard heaters. The Holmes units heat the place great. Further when I received my electric bill for November it was only thirty some dollars which was really surprising. It cost me a hundred-some to keep the place cool in the summer. Would get 5 of 5 if not for the "estimation type" thermostat dial on top. I ended up using a marker to put small ticks on it so I could set it easily.
